Would you like a modern toddler bed, that is made of solid wood, with sound construction, that arrives in one piece, that fits pretty much every toddler mattress, and when you're DONE with this whole silly toddler bed nonsense, it's still a viable piece of furniture? Yes? Well friends. Look no further. I am a hefty mama, and I can attest to the fact that I can lay on that bed, during rough nights, and rub a toddler back. I can attest to the paint not coming off, even during rabid teething sessions. I can tell you how sharp it looks in a room. I can tell you how wonderfully simple the directions to put it together were. And you, my friend, can buy this bed and enjoy. Wahoo!』
(VOC's - UPDATE) 『The P'kolino Toddler bed gets high marks for style, craftsmanship, ease to put together and construction materials (they even use stainless steel bolts). The Packaging is second to none. In fact the bed arrived without damage from UPS and they tried their best to damage the contents. It looked as if the box was shipped from East Timor and not AZ. The areas I disliked are: Lots of styrofoam and this silky like fabric that went between all the wooden parts. During shipment it degraded to a fine fiber that covered all the wooden parts. We had to vacuum and clean all the parts prior to putting the bed together. The most disturbing reason the one star was that after finishing the bed my wife noticed a odor being emitted from the bed. In fact i became so worried about the VOC smell that I took the bed apart and placed it outside in the middle of the night. This is a child's bed for God's sake. It seems that in this day and time they would use materials or paints that would not possibly cause harm to you child by emitting VOC's. The bed is outside and will stay there until I deem it safe for my child.
UPDATE from Mom - Going from one star to four. We've got the beds back in the twins' room and man are they cute looking. I like these much better than a converted crib because of their low height and sleek design. I think it is worth it to have some special furniture for these next 2-3 years. My babes would be drowning in a real twin size and having only the mattress on the floor just added to the chaotic monkeys jumping on the bed. (!!!!) The smell I think was most from the fire retardant on the cushions which are still outside and perhaps headed to recycling or garden. One thing I like about the design is that the limited entry and exit points at head and foot of bed make it easier for me to get through these tough days of sleep training. It takes the boys a second longer to scooch to the edge of the bed to get out so I can get to them before their feet hit the ground and coach them back to laying down. The high sides and a thin crib/toddler duvet from Ikea are also great to keep them kind of sheltered like a crib with their view hidden from each other. It just helps a little that they can't see me while I am doing the SuperNanny waiting in the dark to keep them in bed. Overall a thumbs up from us.』

CONS:
- Not the most intuitive layout: because the sideboards are right in the middle of the bed, the spaces to crawl in and out are a little tight; it's not a big deal once the child gets used to it, but it's not obvious at first what the best way in/out is. - Low headboard: as others have pointed out, it's pretty easy for little heads to get bonked on it when first getting used to the bed. We covered the headboard with a quilt and that solved the problem during the transition.
Overall, it's a solid and attractive bed. Just be careful of the headboard!』
(Fun, modern toddler bed) 『I recently bought this bed for my 2 1/2 yr old son who figured out how to climb out of his crib. It took my husband and I less than an hour to put together. If you've ever put together an Ikea bookcase or dresser, this is along the same lines. Takes some concentration, but not difficult at all. My son loves it and it looks very cute in his room. My only complaint is that it is sold as easy to convert to a chair and back to a bed when you have to actually remove screws and use your tools to do so. When he grows out of it we won't be quickly converting it to a bed again for sleepovers. But overall we are very happy with our purchase.』

The first 50 minutes of the CD are magical, and in truth, the CD should have stopped there. However, it continues for another 57 minutes, playing an odd mix of Celtic, Medieval, approx. a minute of Debussy's "Clair de Lune", and Jazz. Yet because of the first 50 minutes, I love "Fairy Heart Magic". Lyrics to the best songs are provided with the CD package. This is a CD well worth getting and singing along with.』
(Actually 14 tracks) 『I was going to rate this 4 stars, because I was unhappy to find so many instrumental tracks. They are pretty (though nothing special), but there are 6 of them. Out of twelve that's disappointing, but then I read the booklet and found that there are an additional 2 tracks you can get on the computer. One of them is called Story, which is more of a spoken poem; the other I'm not sure but I'm calling it Far Away and it's very beautiful. A lovely album altogether.
About the extra tracks, you can get them only on the computer. For windows I'm not sure, but the 'presentation' doesn't work on my Mac. However, you can access the folder called 'gary media' and drag the tracks to iTunes (or your desktop). Along with the two complete songs, you also get a lot of sample songs for other albums.
The booklet that comes along with the CD explains how to get the tracks, and has the lyrics for the 12 tracks on the CD. Pretty artwork!
Very different from the first Gary Stadler CD I got, Deep Within a Faerie Forest (the tracks in addition to being beautiful are also cool), which I recommend, but Stephannie has a sweet voice and the songs are pleasing to the ear with a few treasures.』

(Definitely off the beaten path) 『This is a CD I enjoy. It is definitely not within the mainstream of most musical styles. It was the inclusion of Lisa Lynne on a couple of selections that encouraged me to buy it without having heard it. Generally, I was not disappointed although this CD doesn't inspire me as much as some other New Age and Native American music I have. For me, the treasure in this CD is the song "Sa'Brooke", which features Stephannie singing softly over gentle, evocative music in a gaelic-sounding language which, according to the insert, she essentially came up with herself. Her voice is sweet, passionate and inspiring in a simple melody which perfectly compliments the gentle arrangement. "Deanash", though nice, is basically "Garden of Dreams" without the vocals or orchestral arrangement. The same could be said for "Heartmagic", a piano solo which is really "Sa'Brooke" without the vocals or orchestral arrangement. To my ear, these two variations represent a failure on the part of the producer to avoid repetitiveness. It's a shame that Sweet never rose to the top in the U.S. like they did in Europe. I remember dancing in a German disco in '77 with "Fox On The Run" blasting from the speakers. As an avid Sweet fan and collector, I have to tell you that this is THE moment in their careers. For all the reasons why, just read the comments of previous reviewers. Kudos to Capitol Records for issuing U.S. releases in the 70's (Desolation Boulevard, Give Us A Wink and Off The Record) which were far superior to the records released in Europe. I rate this the best hard rock album released in 1976. Period.』
(The Eyes are Sweet) 『The original album cover was so neat, since an eye would blink when the sleeve of the record was placed back in the cover. And this March 1976 release was an eye-opener in other ways, too.
The band had full artistic control for the first time, which yielded solid songwriting and production that had a hard-rock sound, but with pop sensibilities. The single Action reached #20 on the Billboard chart, but the strength is in the entire album, with solid numbers like The Lies in Your Eyes, 4th of July and Healer providing the band a foundation in the U.S. to headline small halls nationwide.
There were several versions of the album released - depending on the country - and this CD omits a track found on the U.S. vinyl, the outstanding Lady Starlight. The bonus cuts are alternate remixes of Action, Cockroach and 4th of July.
This is a great example of a style that delivered hooks like a champion fighter, but had a wall-of-sound drenched in heavy guitar riffs that drove FM radio throughout the 1970s.』

(Not this version(German Repertoire 12 Tracks 1990)) 『This is the kind of music that the Sweet made so well. Away from the bubblegum,Glitter and Chinn/Chapman. This is not to say that anything was wrong with any of these things without them the Sweet would have remained unknown without the Glam movement and Chinn/Chapman's great songs that fit the group during this time. By the time Give Us a Wink was released they had severed ties with all that had gone before in the earlier 70's. They attacked Hard Rock in their own brilliant way with a zeal and the tracks on this album make it as relevant relevant and tough sounding as anything of this genre today. The lyrics and the punchiness of the music is hard and full of fire, make no mistake this was who they really were as a band. I should point out that my version on Disc adds Sweet Fanny Adams and Miss Demeanour to the already great tracks. My suggestion to a novice would be to grab this album Desolation Boulevard,Sweet F.A and On The Level a couple of these do fall within the Chinn/Chapman association but most of the tracks are heavy and give an idea of where the band's passion lay. It is always a pity writing retrospectively about a band who could and should have made it really big. But the consolation is in the music that they produced for fans to enjoy. One final warning do not grab a Greatest hits package,some are fine and very well done so that is not my complaint. However my complaint is that it is so jarring to hear the band singing Little Willy,Alexander Graham Bell,Wig Wam Bam etc which make them sound like a different band altogether then to be hit with the great hard stuff fifteen or so songs in it makes the band hard to figure out. The Sweet are a band who definitely deserve separate collections as far as greatest hits go. Bubblegum and schmaltz on one,and heavy rocking on another.』

To correct Mr. Beamer's statement in his review, the KS have indeed been doing pop and all genres of music since their founding in 1968. In fact, it was the inappropriateness of singing pop and light music with the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, that led a small group to branch off and sing all genres of music, including pop, on their own time ... this leading to the founding of the King's Singers.』
(The King's Singers in their element) 『The King's Singers got started a few decades ago doing exclusively classical material, and most of that was pre-1700. Now, many years on, (and after several changes in the group's membership) they have long since branched out into pop and other genres.
This CD (along with another similar one,"Watching the White Wheat") really show off their UK roots, with English, Scottish, and Irish folksongs. The arrangements are mostly quite good, and all the performances are excellent. Deserving of special mention are: (on the slow, poignant side)"Annie Laurie", and"The Ash Grove". [Note: the arrangement of"Annie Laurie"heard here is different from, and I think inferior to, the arrangement they did on an old out-of-print LP called"Atlantic Bridge", where they did both Britsh and American folksongs -- that LP is Highly Recommended (if you can find it -- good luck!)]
Anyway, back to the review: on the up-tempo side, two very fun tunes are"Going to Towyn"and"Mairi's Wedding". For you singers out there, the score for the latter is available in a 3-part arrangement, and is rather easy to learn.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Very good) 『This is definitely the least-boring MACBETH I've seen in a long long time. It's a very difficult opera to sustain, because the libretto reduces Shakespeare's articulate antiheros to cardboard; also, the mood remains the same throughout the piece, and, so much of the music is band-music, more or less brain-dead.
However, the two lead performers, Renato Bruson and Mara Zampieri, actually make these characters interesting. Renato Bruson is an excellent singing actor although he has been overhyped. He plays the piece more or less like a spaghetti-western, with a Clint-Eastwood-like squint and a rugged, bluff manner. He's much more interesting than, for instance, Piero Cappuccilli. And Mara Zampieri is a huge, penetrating vocal athlete, and a good operatic over-actor too. She sings with terrific legato line but also articulates the notes, and she is only very rarely off pitch. The two have good chemistry together.
Yes, the sets are dark and minimal as the other reviewer said, but that focuses our attention on the principals in their hot-orange/scarlet robes.』
(A rare operatic treat on DVD) 『It is not often that I enjoy watching an opera on DVD from beginning to end, but this one offered truly a unique experience. Filmed during live performances, one has a sense of being part of a live event. The production is somewhat conservative but visually impressive and always stimulating. Sinopoli's conducting is totally electric and one forgives the occasional excursions of the camera away from the stage to the conductor's face which appears to animate everything else. Tragic but not altogether hard to believe that this fascinating conductor would be dead of a heart attack a few years later.
Zampieri - a real comet; she came, dazzled and disappeared. I have no knowledge of any singer who could perform Lady Macbeth like her today.Vocally her performance is stunning. A tight voice, highly focused that seems to come from the core of her being, always a whisker from disaster, it creates the perfect impression of a woman on edge; a frustrated, a brilliant, a childless woman, who can only reach fulfilment through her husband's grasp of power. It is also a sexy voice, a quality one very rarely encounters in a soprano (not so rarely in a tenor of Corelli's ilk). Having heard the CD version (also very impressive) and not seen Zampieri, I was interested to see what she looked lile on stage. The answe is that she is quite magnificent. The facial expressions are full of different nuances, fear, anger, ambition, contempt, hate, pride - she can do them all to perfection. Here the DVD comes into its own since the facial close-ups, even when she singing, are really thrilling. You really want to see what this woman does next.
Renato Bruson is the perfect Macbeth to Zampieri's Lady. A weak, troubled man, whose touch with power unleashes great change inside him, he sings and looks the part and rises to real greatness in his moment of destiny, after the death of his lady. His singing is peerless - the legato perfect (the product of incredible breath control), the pianissimi rounded, quiet and audible and the outbursts of anguish always musical and psychologically convincing. I have never seen a singer sweat on stage as much as he does during this performance - this is totally appropriate and the sweating never seems to interfere with his vocal production. A real masterclass of baritone singing.
The other parts are very well sung (including the witches). A minor complaint is that the sound quality could have been better. All in all, this is a special treat.
I am concerned that US opera lovers can only acquire this at a very inflated price. I notice that UK Amazon offers it at more reasonable prices and maybe US readers should try to acquire it that way.』
(Sinopoli is a magician!) 『Giuseppe Sinopoli's untimely death was a great loss to the music world. A tremendous, sensitive interpreter of Italian opera, this video DVD is a valuable document of his art and should be so treasured. We are fortunate that it shows a great deal of his conducting, his careful attention to detail, emotional involvement and communicating power. Notice for example the finale of the first act, the breathtaking `a capella' ensemble with the heartbeat- like tympani accompaniment later joined by the orchestra with a beautiful melody that seems to descend straight from heaven. Macbeth is an important work in Verdi's opus. Here he used Shakespearean text and attempted serious characterization for the first time. He took great pains for the parts of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as well as the chorus of the witches and understood the meaning of the play perfectly which in turn reflected in the characters and the music as well. The two principals are beyond praise. Renato Bruson is one of the greatest baritone of our time with strong and sensitive voice. His forte is powerful but he is also capable of true pp singing and his characterization is a marvel. Maria Zampieri is literally "fire eating" in the Callas sense in her formidable role, but signs of strain are noticeable at times. Still...it's quite an experience to watch and hear her. Her eyes seem to have a life of their own. The lesser roles..... James Morris, the great bass-baritone from the Met has good voice and sensitivity for the tragic Banquo , while Dennis O'Neill is fine in the 'one aria' tenor role, as Macduff. Production of the Deutsche Oper is suitably sparse with aptly blood-red costumes for the principals. Background of dark blue emphasizes the red and is very effective. All in all : a great video, well directed with excellent sound and picture quality. Go for it! 』
(Union of Verdi and Shakespeare proves fruitful) 『Verdi's 'Macbeth' premiered in Florence's Teatro della Pergola in 1847 is the first of his operas to show his genius n full flight. even the musically less satisfying original version stands head and shoulders above the previous operas and had Verdi only lived the same lifespan as Mozart it would have gone down to posterity as his masterpiece. The deutsche Oper Berlin does justice not only to Verdi but to Shakespeare. In Florence the composer urged the singers to 'better serve the Maestro's poet@ i.e Shakespeare, an injunctioned the present cast have followed to the letter. Renato Bruson and Mara Zampieri portray a guilty couple haunted by the consequences of their actions and darken their tone accordingly.Zampieri in particular invites comparison with Shakespearean actresses in the role rather than her soprano colleagues (compliment intended) and in terms of vocal colouring far outshines the grossly overrated and (in this role) pedestrian Maria Callas. Only Shirley Verrett in the DG CD recording of the opera and Josephine Barstow on the Glyndebourne DVD comes within a roar of her in this role. Renato Bruson as her consort sings and acts magnificently. Only Capuccilli on the DG CD proves any sort of a rival. Dennis O' Neill and James Morris as Macduff and Banco prove far more than mere comprimari and make one wish their roles were more substantial. The chorus is equal to the herculean task allotted it by Verdi and the staging is solid if old fashioned. The late Giuseppe Sinopoli finds new things to say about the score. All in all, this is a 'Macbeth' worthy of both Verdi and Shakespeare.』
(Buy another version!) 『This is a very boring version of 'Macbeth'. Only Renato Bruson sings really well. Mara Zampieri is a good actress, but her voice wasn't in her best day. Neill Schicoff is really horrible here and James Morris isn't very well too. Ronconi's production is really boring. There aren't anything in scene, only a real chair and some panels. I don't like Sinoppoli very much. Yes, it is a fine Italian opera, but it lacks the verbal richness, the psychological depth, the symbolic resonance, and the subtle characterizations of Shakespeare's tragedy. Dissatisfied with it himself, Verdi revised the 1847 original in 1865 but remained unhappy; it's not easy to stack yourself up against Shakespeare. He did better at the end of his career withOtelloandFalstaff, aided by superior librettos.
Still, taken on its own terms, as an Italian opera of the mid-19th century,Macbethstands out. It is a powerful look at ambition, violence, remorse, the dark doings of witches, and the spooky torments of a guilty conscience. The late Giuseppe Sinopoli conducted vigorously, and his numerous fans will specially treasure this recording, which focuses its cameras on him frequently. Renata Bruson and Maria Zampieri are both at home in their roles and they exult in the opera's many opportunities for melodrama. (Acquired Taste) 『Sandra is very much an acquired taste, a love-or-hate entertainer. I have partially acquired that taste, having seen this show on English TV. I managed to track down the DVD, which is unavailable in the UK. If you have never seen the unusual style and act of Sandra, don't bother. If however, you have been intrigued by her unique act, as I was, then this is a 'definitive' must-have. To my mind, it is worth the price for her rendition of the classic ' Me and Mrs Jones ' which is spine-tingling.』

From the first moment, the movie is in your face. You're alarmed. You're thinking, "How am I supposed to react to this? Is this .......funny? offensive? What is this?" Then you laugh and can't stop laughing.

(And why did I want to see this film again?!) 『This IS the 1980 film starring Doug McClure. Now, ol' Doug was never going to win any awards for his acting, but even he outdoes himself in the bad acting department in this super cheesy film.
I remembered this film from the days when I got my first VCR. I had remembered it as being fairly well done. Boy, was I wrong! This movie BITES!
HFTD follows the same basic premise that every "seafaring" monster film has since Jaws was made: people get attacked, pets get attacked, locals get angry, loyal local takes charge to get monster, expert scientist is readily on hand to assist, more people get eaten, festival/holiday is disturbed by the monster; hero dispatches monster, and finally, the film sets us up for a sequel.
Jaws was a one time thing. Even Speilberg never thought it was going to be as popular as it was since they hadn't been able to get the shark footage that they wanted. The result was a benchmark film against which all other seafaring "monster" films are judged.
The acting is quite terrible throughout. It's not amateur hour, but you can actually see the non acting throughout (McClure's screen wife has absolutely no expression on her face when she is attacked by several of the Humanoids). The scientist who knows what's going on (Ann Turkel) is so vapid that you just want to shake her. Ann Turkel got her acting chops from the modeling runway and we all know that is sufficient (right!). She has no expression and she moves as if in a dream, delivering her lines evenly and expressionless. Hilariously when the hero, the scientist, and the honorable local (an American Indian) go to the location where the local first saw the monsters, we can tell that the location is anything BUT where he first saw it. How can this be since he saw it on his own property? However the location they identify is NOT his property!
The script is such a pitiful mess that the writer should be ashamed of himself.
The monsters (the Humanoids) are two legged fish monsters with a tail - at about 7 feet tall - they are the result of frog DNA being merged with salmon DNA and then the salmon being eaten by "the once thought extinct but isn't really" coelocanth. So where do they get their two adult legs and extra long five fingered arms (oh, that must be the frog DNA at work, since frogs are bipeds, aren't they?).
Rob Bottin created the monster costumes and while not totally stupid looking, they are quite idiotic (but that's more the director's and producer's fault than his).
Really cheesy and badly done film. Don't bother.』
(Why Roger...why?) 『I don't see why Roger Corman would allow one of his best, if not best of his works to get butchered like this, even when he was producing. The entire scare factor that the original had is gone, the great music is gone, the characters you could give a damn about are gone, the awesome monsters are gone, leaving this movie a VERY pale imitation of a classic 1980 monster movie.
I can understand that this was a low budget, but so was the original, and it still came out better. The original Humanoids looked much better then these here new ones, the older ones had character and a feeling of terror, these here new ones are horrid, they still have the basic design...but the feeling just is not there. The monsters awesome shreeks are gone, replaced by crappy sounding "ape" grunts.
You couldn't give a care about the characters anymore, that is the best I can say about them. The acting, even by my standards is dreaded, I guess Corman felt that the only way to possibly keep a viewer's attention is throw blood everywhere and womens' chests.』

It does not take long before it is apparent that a woman and her friends have agenda on how to create enough wealth so they do not have to worry about the money during the old days. They are about to use ex-boxer as a tool to get to the goal. Erotic tension rises but so does desire for control. No one seem to be what they pretend to be and that is when film truly reaches its peak.
Jason Patrick gives a fantastic performance. He has a true swagger of a boxing champion. His eyes reflect his mood of the moment. At that point he taks over the big screen and the course of the movie. It is one of the films made in film noir fashion that draws audiences into destinies of the protagonists. There are no winners at the end of the story and that is the beauty of the movie.』

(pulp fiction) 『 Jason Patric is memorable as a drifting, washed up boxer who gets caught up as the patsy in a disasterous kidnapping scheme. Patric's only fault could be that he's a bit too pretty as he's a good actor and like others have said below it's a shame that he hasn't been seen in more films. Rachel Ward makes a believable alcoholic femme fatale but I couldn't help but think of Jessica Lange playing the part as the role seems tailor-made for her.
Over-all this was a great little film, very film-noir, so much so that it almost seemed strange to be watching it in color, so it didn't surprise me at all to learn from the other reviews that the story was actually from a 50's pulp novel of the same name. I can't speak for the novel but in the films case this title doesn't fit at all but it's good to see that it's not being forgotten.

I will say that all actors did exceedingly well in what can be very difficult roles to play. They all acted off each other in a believable manner. Bruce Dern was never seedier than he is with this character. Jason Patric and Rachel Ward also excel at thier characters. What is decieving here is the setting....somewhere in the southwest, desert area. Film noir is typically dark and shadowy but here there is lots of sunlight. It takes the focus off the setting and puts it on the plot, which I found to be an interesting twist and quite effective. In the heat, the emotions bubble over. Lust, greed, deception, lies, mistrust and paranoia all play out in layer upon layer and is accented by Jason Patric's character very effectively. For those who like film noir with a twist you will certainly like this little known gem. It is immediately captivating and magnetic. I don't know how I missed it on it's original release but certainly glad I caught up to it. (The Magic's In The Glasses, Not The Chalk) 『After much begging and pleading, I bought this set for my 9-year-old son who absolutely loves to draw with chalk on our driveway. Honestly, I expected to be disappointed.
The product consists of two pair of "3D" glasses and four large chalks, each composed of two different colors. In reality, the large chalks are simply two smaller ones stuck together which, frankly, are too unwieldy for little hands. No matter - the first time my son dropped one of the large chalks it broke in half, giving him the two separate smaller chalks to work with.
The instructions accompanying the package explain that, when viewed through the 3D glasses, "hot" colors (orange, pink and red) look as if they're higher than "cool" colors (blue, green). Explaining this to a kid who'd already envisioned what he wanted to draw wasn't easy, and he was predictably disappointed when his masterpiece didn't look anything like the television commercial.
Before giving up, I decided to try my hand on something simple: I wrote his initials in yellow (a hot color that "rises") and outlined each letter with a thick border of blue (a cool color that "recedes"). Serious WOW!!!! After that demonstration, both of us were hooked so we spent the morning coloring our driveway then, as the neigbhborhood kids came out to see, we let each of them try on the 3D glasses. They, too, all said WOW!!!
Before long, our chalk was running low so I decided to see if using plain sidewalk chalk (we keep a bucket of it around at all times) would have the same effect. Although less saturated with color than the 3D chalk, when viewed through the glasses it had the same effect. Keep that in mind if you order this: you'll want to hang on to your glasses!
As for cleanup, the product hoses off of sidewalks and driveways easily. It takes a little scrubbing to get the chalk off hands, though, but the kids had so much fun with this stuff not a single one complained about having to scrub.』 『Great fun all summer long!』

First of all I couldn't stand the heroine's name. It was infuriating. Once I got past that, I was disturbed at the fact that the people of this town were angry at her for childish reasons. There was her so called friends who held a huge grudge because she left town. I mean are you kidding? Let it go! She moved out of town...nobody said she was entitled to stay there forever. It was like they lost their Queen B so they couldn't function. Then there was Winnie...who irked me. I understood she was teased and tormented in school by the heroine but after a while I was like move on...she seem mighty content with moving on with the heroine's former friends, who had also teased her. She looked real pathetic to me..and I didn't understand how she was a part of the group and at the end they had to vote her in. I wanted her husband Ryan to leave her. I didn't connect with their relationship. I also didn't really connect with the h/h...Overall there was no real depth to the grudges and hatred in this book.』
(My favorite SEP so far) 『I loved this book. I was hoping I would because all the reviews talked about a strong funny female lead. She was all that and more. I won't go deep into the plotline since plenty have already done that, but I will say that it was an interesting dive into character analysis with just about every single person as flawed and often pathetic as it gets. It was extremely refreshing to see that Sugar Beth (hated the name) wasn't the typical, virginal inexperienced girl looking for her true love. She's been thrice divorced and faced enormous emotional challenges such as a loveless father, domestic abuse, ectopic pregnancy, alcoholism, and poverty due to circumstances way beyond her control. Any of these things could crumble a person, nevermind the combination of all, and she works through it the best way she can and becomes a tough responsible person who tries to learn from each of her mistakes. On the flip side, she's left a town of people who she has to face again and everyone is biting at the chomp to draw blood from her based on actions she did when she was a kid 15 years earlier. Some of those feelings were justified, others were definitely not, but to carry the torch for 15 years is rather pathetic. Her old "girlfriends" were certainly not deserving of friendship. They were merely a group of worship and follow the leader girls, basically mean spirited from childhood into adulthood who I wouldn't be convinced couldn't turn again based on popularity. The male lead Colin, who was justified for his ill will, was esesntially an obsessed stalker who through the course of interaction with Sugar Beth, finally starts to grow up and look at more than just one side to a story. Better late than never which is why it works for me in the end although I would have liked to see her have more time to deal with and realize the love she's found. I liked the secondary plotline of Winnie but there was too much of the book spent on it. Her storyline could have been cut in half and quite frankly, shouldn't have been the secondary happy ending. Realistically, I think it would have been better for them to leave that storyline open and still trying to work things out. I don't see how you tie up a planned trapping of marriage by pregnancy with a big red bow. The other half should have been spent with additional development between Colin and Sugar Beth and their great and sexy chemistry. Regardless of the serious content, it was very funny with great dialogue. I really fell for Sugar Beth and considering her start, it was quite a feat for the author. It's a book that not only entertained me, but got me to think about the people, the situations, and what I would have done myself.』

(BEST READ IN YEARS!) 『I came here for the sole purpose of ordering more SEP books, but I just finished this book and couldn't resist a quick comment. If this wasn't the best book I have ever read, it's darn close. Sugar Beth struck a chord for me. Victim to a cold, vengeful father, she acts out in high school only to be paid back by karma for the next 13 years. Three marriages later, battered and broke, she returns to her home town to claim a small "inheritance" left to her by her aunt. Problem is, she can't find it. She spends most of the book looking for the inherited painting, but is forced to deal with all the people who hated her for being popular in school. Dont' get me wrong, she was cruel to many people and deserves a lot of what she gets. Until you find out the crap her dad dished out when she was a kid, and then you start to feel pretty bad for her, too. But for every humiliation she encounters, she comes out swinging, with a mixture of good ole southern charm and biting wit. I think the only heroine I may have liked more was in The Mad Earl's Bride, by Loretta Chase, but I'll have to give that one some thought. Regardless, I have been reading romance for 30 years, and I know talent when I see it. This author is the real deal.』

Something from the history from China: In Taiwan the cooking tradition going back to "The ruling Emperers of China" and their Royal kitchen and cooks". This fine art of cooking was lost in China during the revolution. However when the famous general, later President "Chiang Kai-shek" ( / ) escaped in 1949 from mainland China to Taiwan with thousands of the upper class and the former Chinese government officials, they also included some famous Chefs from The Imperial Kitchen. During the time of the Emperors power in China they were never allowed to write down any Royal recepies, or to give them away. The recepies were only for the Emperor and his entourage. Those who gave away recepies lost their heads..., very quickly.... Those Chinese who came to Taiwan brought with them many old and great Chinese cooking traditions which have fortunately survived.
The Publisher: The wonderful cooking school "Wei-Chuan Cooking School" in Taiwan has published a whole series of wonderful cookbooks. Lee Wha Lim have written more than 19 different books covering food from all the different regions of China.
And all his books are excellent!!! - They are all written in two languages English and Chinese. Each dish is described in preparations, step by step, explaining everything in English and is so crystal clear and easy to understand that one would wish that many western cookbooks couls be that concise.
This cook book: All the major parts of China is representated in this fine cooking book (Szechwan, Cantonese, Beijing, Shanghai and Taiwanese). And it start explaining about the different types of rice and noodles you can buy, and with photos in colour so you can relate to the different types. Then there is a comprehensive chapter on different kind of cooking oils, frequents used spices and dried goods, as well as vegetables and herbs, meats and vegetables and stocks.
You will learn how to shop, prepare all food and ingridiences, step by step and you will learn how to cut the meat and seafood the correct way. You will learn how to prepare rice in several different ways from boid to steamed and fried, etc.
If you love rice and noodles, you will also love this book. It is one of the best books I have seen and it is written by the Chinese themself! Can't be better.

My mother always used the Wei Chuan cookbooks so when I found this one I had to have it. It's been a real treat. My sister and I looked at the recipes and reminisced about our childhood and all the yummy dishes we missed, many of which are in this book. The Kung Pao chicken alone made the book worth buying. The recipes are easy and don't call for a lot of ingredients.
