Been using it for years (we are on our second one and we both use it almost daily). The one comment I have for those who thought it died too early--If you use distilled water as directed, you do NOT need to use vinegar as part of the maintenance (please check with Whirlpool), but when we first got it that was our mistake and confirmed by the Whirlpool rep we called when returning it (the first one went within the warranty time frame). I would hope that they updated the manual, but who knows?
That said, my biggest fear is that something like this will not be available when it comes time to get our third. Paid for itself in the first few months(work shirts and wife's skirts that would get dropped off for laundry after one wearing, now got worn twice). Doesn't clean, freshens, but does it very well. Removes the biggest wrinkles, but not necessarily all of them, but you still look good walking into the office (heck, I use it on shirts just from the dry cleaner just to remove closet wrinkles).』
(Wouldn't want to be without one!) 『I have had this fabric freshener for several years now. I travel 90% of the time, and this is wonderful for my suits. I have had so many pants ruined by the dry cleaners, with a shine on the fabric. Or the seams are pressed so hard, you can see them from across the room. Or the nice soft draping fabrics are no longer soft. Unless there is a stain, my clothes don't go to the dry cleaner any longer. It does very well with lighter weight fabrics. Linen, not so much. I gave it a 4 because the weights that come with the machine are not well made. They fell apart after a short amount of time. I tried to order new ones from Whirlpool and they don't sell them any longer. My instructions said not to use it on stretchy fabrics, so I have never used it on sweaters. Yet the photo shows a sweater in the tent.』

This is a known flaw at Whirlpool but instead proactively informing people of that, they only do when you call to complain.
This is a 5-star unit when it works. Using this, a Kent fabric brush and a little spot cleaning I was able to eliminate my dry cleaning. I was also able to reduce my ironing. This product does not eliminate ironing as many folks are mistaken in believing.
But the Fabric Freshener also has a serious design flaw that is known by Whirlpool. I was told they are in the process of printing correct manuals (this product has been on the market for at least 3 years now). For this, they should get negative stars. And it took many, many phone calls and emails, ultimately escalating to their executive office to get an answer as to why my unit stopped steaming.
I was told that the cups have a "water softener" built into them (little beads) that migrate into the system. In the presence of vinegar, these beads swell up and clog the unit, thus preventing it from steaming.
The rep said this why they recommend changing the cups every six months (but this in no way will prevent the problem once you do the vinegar cleaning). They now say do not put vinegar into the unit. Well, duh. Thanks for that bit of information way too late. Again this begs the question: why on earth is this vital information is not in the product description on their website?
On the plus side they told me they would do a one time full replacement of my year old unit. On the down side, it should have been here by now.
So buyer beware: the product is really quite excellent when it works but Whirlpool has some serious ethical issues with its products, repairs and customer service. (Google Whirlpool complaints to see what I mean).
4-7-09 ETA: I got the replacement Fabric Freshener, filled up the new water cup and it did not work. It did the exact same thing as the old unit. Tried to steam then skipped right to dry. I tried again with the old water cup and it worked the first time, didn't work the second time. This supposedly new replacement makes awful grinding noises and seems like it is well past its useful life. I don't expect it to work consistently or for very long. The promised shipping label to return the old unit and the updated manual were both missing.
My best advice to anyone considering this as a purchase is do not waste your money on this. It is just not a good value.』
(Worked great for almost a year, now I am out $215.42) 『I bought this almost exactly 1 year ago (April 1, 2008), directly from Whirlpool. Yesterday it stopped working. I called the customer service number in the manual and was told that I had called the wrong number (this took quite awhile as the rep kept insisting there is no such product). So when I called the number I was given and got voice mail, I just thought since it was after 5pm here in California, they just must be closed where ever they are.
Today I got a response to my message saying that customer service for this unit is only open from 1pm - 4pm EST. Unfortunately I was at work and unable to take the call - not that I would have been able to actually work on it with them on the line anyway.
How the heck are you supposed to connect with anyone to troubleshoot the appliance if you work for a living?
I had read about these steamers going belly up after about 2 years, but went ahead and bought it anyway because the reviews said it worked great, and only a few people had the dead unit problem. Plus, no one said anything about not being able to get it fixed.
Now I have a $200 mistake sitting here and have no idea if it can be repaired. I refuse to miss going to work to sit on the phone with these people. I need my job.

This has been a cherished appliance. It has not been misused or neglected. It 100% freed me from dry cleaning (but I don't have that much). I would be more than happy to pay a fair price for repairs (the limited warranty is only for 90 days people, that should be a red flag right there). But as it stands, Whirlpool is making getting this fixed virtually impossible.
I guess for someone who has a large amount of dry cleaning, the short working time is cost effective. Maybe that's why they only give it 90 days under warranty. However for me, this has been an extremely bad deal and I wish I had known this was (apparently) meant to be disposable before I coughed up my money for it.』

I took out my Vac and put it together, VERY simple, attached the wheels that slide onto unit and then can be secured with one screw, attached the hose,nested all my attachemnts in their place ON the vacuum, slid on the water filter sleeve(provided), set aside the dry filter (provided) and off to the backyard pond I went!!
This vacuum has a great big drain plug for easy draining!! no lifting and dumping water out with this one, great suction, emptied out my little pond in no time at all, worked great!!
Then the dog room, vacuumed up everything and maybe a few things I didn't mean too, this vac has some great suction so be careful when vacuuming close to an item your not trying to vacuum, some people may find the powerful suction a fault, I think it's great, it's a heavy duty vacuum, if you want something less powerful then perhaps use a house vacuum?? They also have numerous different attachments I found that have brush attachments that will help ease the powerful suction when vacuuming say your rugs or car,You may want to consider this if you plan on using this for either of those purposes. It's on my list for future purchases.
Then it was time to blow out the garage and clear the leaves and dirt off the driveway. So easy!! one push of the button and you just lift the blower right off the vac, put on your attachments and you got yourself a blower. It's handle is easy to hold and the unit itself is not heavy, I was skeptical when I ordered this vac that the blower would not be powerful enough but I am happy to say I am very pleased with the power and it's suprisingly quiet(as far as blowers go)you would not need any type of earplugs while using this unit.

It helps women where they are at, realizes that sometimes husbands can be jerks, and how to live your life so that you are doing right but are not burnt out.
I felt that this book was enabling to me as a woman, while it seems that other authors think that I should be walked all over just because I'm a woman. There is very good Biblical and practical advice, including how to do things to get your husband to respect you.

(One of the Best Books I've Read in a Long Time) 『I admit I rarely read books that are targeted at married mothers. I'm not married and I'm not a mother. Go figure. But since I moved in with my parents and two younger brothers a few months ago (got laid off, minimizing expenses while looking for a job, you know the drill), my healthy, if distant, appreciation for home engineers has developed into downright deification. As an adult member of the household, I'm frequently overwhelmed by how much needs to be done on a daily basis.
Perhaps that's why TO LOVE, HONOR, AND VACUUM strikes me as one of the best books I've read in a long time. Written by home schooling mom and entrepreneur Shelia Wray Gregoire, the book is chock full of practical tips for doing everything around the home from cleaning to keeping spending in check to stoking the romantic fires. A lot of her suggestions aren't necessarily rocket science, but she presents them in a fresh way and gives the business of running a family a new spin.
One feature of the book that I found especially insightful is a section profiling one day in the life of three women living at three different points in American history. These short fictional accounts reveal that while women over the years share many of the same concerns about the welfare of their families, the tangible nuts and bolts of running a household have evolved significantly. This will be an epiphany for the many modern women harboring guilt-inducing notions that the housewives of earlier generations were better at running their households despite the absence of the time and effort saving conveniences that clutter homes today. On the contrary, Gregoire convincingly points out that these technological advances have actually added more lines on today's to-do lists.
And while all of this is helpful, the real value of Gregorie's book is in its discussion of the principles that should guide the division of labor in the home.
As the back cover says, this is no"women's lib"book and Gregorie does not fail to mention biblical verses referring to wives submitting to husbands. Nevertheless, she does a masterful job of exposing how commonly held ideas about gender roles within the home are of a cultural construction and not a biblical construction. Furthermore, she points out that these traditional gender roles aren't effective for many families existing in our modern economy. With this in mind, she suggests innovative ways to devise a truly harmonious living and working environment.
This harmonious environment is ultimately the goal of everything that TO LOVE, HONOR, AND VACUUM proposes.
"As you change your emphasis to people's comfort, rather than keeping up appearances, your attitude toward housework will probably change as well. Having the 'perfect house' as a standard can be very debilitating, constricting our ability to share with others. Maybe you'd like to invite that new couple over after church, but you can't possibly let them in your home right now because there are still crumbs on the counter from breakfast and the kid's toys are lying on the stairs.
When we think this way, we are putting things ahead of people. Creating a family friendly home means creating a home where people feel comfortable. Imagine in your head the "perfect" guitar amplifier tone and you can understand why you would not want to design it the same way as a hi-fi home audio system. I've been searching for a book with detailed coverage of tube circuits for guitar amps and this is exactly what I was looking for.
If you want a book that will help you understand how each part of a guitar amplifier affects tone, then this book is for you. The author describes the different circuits involved throughout the preamp and how to analyze them, giving examples from classic amplifiers along the way. [...]
If you want to design your own amplifier and also want to understand the inner workings of the circuitry rather than just following a cookie-cutter design, then I strongly recommend getting your hands on this book. It will give you the confidence you need to design your own amplifier.』
(A great book, but maybe not the first choice for a newbie) 『This is a very good book on guitar tube preamps. What I like most about it is that it takes a bit of a different approach than most other tube books. It uses equivalent circuit analysis in most of the examples, which I have not seen in another tube book, at least not in this clear manner.
{equivalent circuit analysis is when you assume capacitors to be open circuits and inductors to be short circuits at low frequencies and the opposite at high frequencies. At mid frequencies you determine which take effect first and you can then make bode-plots to describe the frequency response}
Even though I like this book very much, I would not recommend it as your first tube amp book because of the following:
* It is only about preamps. If you only want to buy one tube book, buy one on the complete amplifier design.
* Though the concepts are accurate, some of them can be more easily explained in other ways.
* If you just want to start building, you don't really need to go into the concepts of "Inverted-L", "Gamma", "Pi", and "T"-networks, which are basically just RC-circuits arranged in different ways.
My recommendation is: If you have read a tube amp book or two, then buy this book to get the different perspective and a new set of methods for analyzing tube amps. If your buying your first tube amp book and want to know the basics, I would suggest buying "Valve Amplifiers" by Morgan Jones, and if your buying you first tube amp book and guitar-amps is the only thing your interested in then buy "The Ultimate Tone" by Kevin O`Connor.
All these books are good, but they fill different needs.』
(A very serious book) 『Thanks to Dave Hunter, many musicians now have a grasp on what is happening inside their tube amp. If you are not interested in designing or modifying an amp, Hunter's books are all you need. But, if you want to start with a blank sheet of paper and build something from the ground-up; the info in Kuehnel's books (he also has a power amp book in this series), are the best of their type and unlike old school tube books that you find at a used book store; this book is specifically geared toward guitar and bass amps. There is alot of detailed info here so it is not something you can just read through, cover-to-cover. it is best to take it in small sections or, go directly to a section that interests you (I started with the effect of cathode bypass capacitors). All told, I am not sure if I will ever build an amp from scratch but using this info, I actually think that I can do it.』
(Ouch my Head Hurts!!) 『This book is NOT for beginners...... I would say that if you do not have a degree in electronics, I would stay away from this book. If you do, then this would be a great book for you. I have no degree, and have read the book several times, and I would say I understand 10-20% of the book. Just Find another book.』
(Objective and engineering-based) 『Too many books on tube musical instrument amplifier design descend into subjectivity and waffle. Some, in attempting try to appeal too widely, lose rigor in explanation.
Kuehnel's volume manages to avoid becoming mired in theoretical detail yet remains analytically rigorous. The reader is expected to have a firm grasp of basic electronics and electronic components but explanations do not extend into the realm of system-function in frequency domain, laplace and fourier analysis. This contrasts with Kuehnel's seminal volume on the Fender Bassman 5F6-A, which is mathematically much more demanding. The reader here is led quickly through basic triode operation and resistive divider networks. A reasonably comprehensive chapter on guitar pickup characteristics is included, this is extremely welcome as many works on similar subject neglect this topic, which is of fundamental importance. Further chapters cover topics of Miller capacitance, pentode operation, headroom, distortion, noise, cathode degeneration and parallel operation of triodes. The Ampeg B42X pre-amp is analysed, chosen because it does differ somewhat from the more familiar Fender Marshall circuits.
In keeping with the desire to use an engineering approach rather than that of a 'guru', Kuehnel includes data on real-world capacitor and resistor performance. He resists the temptation to pontificate on the vintage-component-tone-mojo debate and leaves it to the reader to assess the implications.
Tube gear is currently making a bit of a comeback in hi-fi, but it never really went away for guitar amplification.
To become a true guru on the topic one can't neglect the value of formal engineering training and recourse to the great texts of the 1950s and earlier by Frederick Terman and Langford-Smith etc. But those texts are general whilst this is specific to subject. Kuehnel doesn't include nearly as much information as contained within Kevin O'Connor's "Ultimate Tone" series but this book is better written, is more textbook like in nature, has fewer errors and in my opinion it is a far better initial investment for those serious about the subject.
