I did quite a bit of research for a new vacuum before choosing this model. While it is a little heavy, it does a great job at cleaning the floor. Being self-propelled is plus, so you don't really notice the weight until carrying it upstairs. Everything else on it is very good.
This powerful vacuum is fantastic! I've been using it for a couple of months now on carpet, hardwood, wool rugs, and jute rugs. It's worked very well on each surface, and moving from one surface to another is facilitated with a simple shift of a switch.

LOVE the dirt finder and the self-propel features, even though I originally thought they were silly gimmicks. I rely on them both each time I use the vacuum.

I highly recommend the extension hose if you have stairs; otherwise you'll have to lug the vacuum step by step, which isn't easy.
How can you get excited about an appliance? When it serves the purpose for which it was purchased! This Hoover does that and I purposely waited awhile to write this until we had enough experience with it to recommend it (or not). First, let me say that I read all the Amazon reviews before we purchased this vacuum (from Amazon). One said their's was used when it arrived. Another that the box wasn't wrapped in another box for better protection. Well, let me put your mind at ease on those points. This machine was brand spanking new and the shipping container suffered zero shipping damage. Actually, like most products today, it was cleverly packed and could survive all but the most brutal handling in my opinion.

Now, the truth is, my wife picked this machine to replace a 20 year old Sears Kenmore. The primary reason she picked it was because she really loved the self-propelled feature of the Kenmore. If you check, there just aren't many self-propelled vacuums out there, so there are not many choices. Frankly, I think this is an absolutely essential feature myself, since I do about 1/2 of the vacuuming. Oh, and for the record, this unit uses easily replaceable bags. I just can't imagine a better method.

When the unit arrived, it was in two pieces. The top part of the handle, which includes the switches for power and propulsion mode must be assembled to the main handle (or post). It takes just a couple of minutes to fit the parts together and attach with the four screws provided. I think my wife could have figured it out on her own, but it would have taken some time. Once installed, the unit was ready to go. Now, I wasn't prepared to actually like any vacuum, but I'm a car guy and it was immediately apparent that this machine took some cues from the newest (and most expensive) Chevy Corvette! Yes! The ZR-1 signature color must be nearly identical to the beautiful blue used on the Hoover, and like the Vette, this Hoover has elegant chrome trim with cool chrome wheels! But I digress.

One thing I didn't think I'd like about the Hoover was that all the attachments ride around on the machine while you're using it. I thought this might weigh it down, making it ungainly to use. Turns out I was wrong. Actually, this is quite convenient because when you want to use the "pet hair attachment" or vacuum stairs using the flexible tube, everything you need it right there at hand. We also purchased the extra-long flexible hose which allows us to vacuum fairly long flights of stairs w/o having to move the vacuum itself.

Cleaning performance is good, with little green and red lights to tell you if an area is clean or still needs more work. The self-propelled part works great with both forward and backwards strokes. The only issue I have is that the brushes tend to lay down "streaks" on the cleaned surface of the carpet instead of a more even pattern. It does, however, clean the carpet (and hard floors) quickly and painlessly. It also goes under low furniture easily, cleans close to baseboards and does not mar or damage these items (or itself, for that matter).

I'm rating this product a four only because most of it's parts, like virtually all competing products, are plastic. I'm just not thrilled by that because I feel like it can't possibly last as long as the old Kenmore. I will say this, however. At this price point, quality and level of performance, I simply can't imagine why a home owner would need to spend more money to get a good cleaning machine. Quite simply, this one really works well (and looks like a $110,000 Corvette). Now, I put it to you: could you really ask for more?
I researched vacuums for several months and read both positive and negative reviews. My other vacuum is a Hoover but is old and has weak suction so I thought I could trust the Hoover brand. And, since a popular consumer review source highly recommended this vacuum I decided to buy it.
I haven't even vacuumed my entire house yet and the vacuum is broken. I am returning it for a refund and will try another brand. Any one know of any MADE IN THE USA brands?
This vacuum is all that they said it was. It does an incredible job getting the dirt off the carpet. I like the red and green lights that tells you when an area is clean or still has more dirt. As far a longevity, that will be seen in the future.

I was especially pleased at how fast it got here. It was within two days using standard shipping.

I looked at several local stores to find the filters and could only get them here. Got them fast and the price was right.
Can't say much about filters. They are the right filters and trap a lot of dust etc. Probably better than buying filters manufactured by others for this machine.
I am happy with the price and product. I wasn't able to find this filter at any stores, so I would definitely order again online.
I bought the Dirt Devil vacuum almost a year ago. The price was right, and so was the size for my small apt. I am impressed with its suction power, and am always amazed, and a bit puzzled, at all the dirt and lint that it picks ups and twirls into a ball. This is a small apt, and I live alone, where does all of that come from?? I wonder if someday it will totally suck up my rug, or perhaps it's pulling it up from the apt below me? Because of this strong suction power the filter and the canister get clogged easily, and it loses some of its "sucking it up" ability. I have to take it apart and clean it after 2 vacuumings! And, I have spent almost as much in this past year on new HEPA filters, as I have for the vacuum itself. Also, not being able to buy the filters in a store and only online, is a pain. I would not buy this vacuum again, even if it is cute and in my favorite color, purple!!

Well...I'm not sure what to say about a vacuum filter. They filter dust, which is good! I guess if you're going to buy a filter for your old dirt-devil vac, you might as well buy this one (if it fits). Since this is a commodity-item, go with the cheapest you can find; Amazon had the cheapest deal by a buck or two.

The bags are good quality, fit easily, same as original Hoover bags. It costs like a dollar per bag to buy this one, which is much cheaper than Hoover bags. I noticed that it does perform a bit less than the Hoover in the amount of dirt which is getting sucked in, I don't really understand how a bag could affect that, but I did see this performance drop. But it is quite minimal and the cost saving more than overcomes that. I am never going to buy original Hoover bags and waste money anymore.
For the price this seems like a great deal so far! I have used it a few times already and it picks up quite a bit. I already filled one vacuum bag...obviously my last vacuum wasn't doing as good of a job as I thought. The price is right, I can't see any of the more expensive vacuums doing any better job.
I bought these for my new vacuum, and have just used the first one. It works fine, but the materials is kind of rough. This doesn't matter, except it is a little difficult to put on the vacuum. But the value is great, and it is a vacuum back, for heavens sake!
I ordered it on 1-28-09 and I am still waiting for it to arrive. Today is 2/28/09.

Works great for blowing 90% of the water of motorcycles but be ready to give a final wipe to really get rid of spots.
Purchased this dryer thinking that it would help a little with the drying time on my bike - this product is great - it cut my wash and dry time in half - I was able to get the water out of the fins on my engine heads as well as all the little spots I had difficulty getting to with a cloth. Even blew the dust off the garage floor prior to rolling the bike back in. Highly recommend this for the biker that has one or two bikes and likes to keep them clean. You will need an extention cord as the cord on the unit is aprox 18". Great product - great buy!
I would normally resist washing my Sportster (typically use Dri-Wash products) because of the pain that comes with removing water spots, but the Metro Vaccum makes drying anything a breeze! Takes me about 5 minutes to completely dry my bike and the most important thing... "NO STREAKS or WATER SPOTS!" Needless to say, I love this compact portable motorcycle dryer!!!
I bought this dryer as a replacement for a dog dryer that broke on me. I am very happy with it; it is the same product as the one that's sold for dogs, it's just a different color. The only problem is the cord, which is about, no kidding about 18 inches long! That makes the use of an extension cord absolutely required and really cuts down on its usefulness.

It also falls over when using an extension hose. I had my husband build a wood base to put it in while in use or stored, so it would be more stable.

For the price, it is an excellent product, but I still think the 18 inch cord is ridiculous.
This is a whole lotta product in a small package. I had been considering some type of dryer to help with cleaning and drying my motorcycle, and when I found a very attractive price on Amazon.com I decided to try it. I'm happy with these. I bought these Mirka discs 50 pack each of the 60, 120, and 180 grit. I do a good bit of woodworking, and these seem to hold up well and vent properly.
I took a chance and tried this product. I was pleasantly surprised at how long they lasted, comparable to the much more expensive brands.
PERFORMANCE: quick change but yet maintains tight grip to sander pad. aggressive cut makes this abrasive a premium sanding disk, in spite of the budget price. cuts hardwoods and softwoods with equal vigor. a good abrasive disk cuts well with light pressure, let the sander/abrasive do the work, you should not have to apply pressure to get it to remove material if you are using a fresh abrasive. these disks have a long abrasive cut life. I would love to do a material removal and abrasive life of all the 5 and 8 hole disks on the market.

PRICE: forget buying packs of 6 to 10 disks at Lowes or Home Depot, its a ripoff if you do any quantity of production work. Yet these home improvement stores who bill themselves as contractor suppliers do not sell abrasive disks in packs of 50 ??? These high quality disks match the best you can buy, but the over the counter brands sold at your local home improvement store can't come close to matching this price. don't waste your money on inferior budget priced sanding disks either,(the super cheapies made in China) they don't cut well, abrasive breaks down rapidly and they have a low cut life.

I have purchased every grit of Mirka sanding disks from Amazon, and I find them to be good quality. The price per disc works out to be a great value if you purchase them in packs of 50.

I used these disks on my Bosch random-orbit sander. The hook-and-loop backing is strong and holds on through rough sanding. The aluminum oxide sanding material lasts for a good amount of time. I've used them on a variety of wood surfaces, and I have used them to remove paint, and they last long enough to take down a lot of material. I have bought other brands of sanding discs that do last longer, but the Mirka discs definitely hold up well.

The discs are packaged in a sturdy box with a cover, which makes it easy to dispense them as needed. Also, having them stored in a box keeps them clean, which helps the hook-and-loop function. This actually helps out a lot in the shop. Other brands come wrapped in plastic, and you have to find a container for them, or let them sit on a shelf and get full of sawdust. I appreciate this extra touch.

The paper stock is somewhat thin, but this does not really affect their use. Since they are stored in a box, they stay flat. Other brands, which are stored in bags, get curled up on the edges.

Bottom line: these are good quality sanding discs that last for a good amount of time, are a good value for the money, and are packaged in a convenient way.

I bought this vacuum three years; and it's still going strong. It is very quiet and powerful. And it has never failed to do the job.
Everything about this vacuum makes me think it's junk. When will these manufacturers learn that consumers are craving a better-made shop vacuum? It is at the point now that I must be careful when I choose to vacuum because this thing just puts me in such a foul mood. It is just such a piece of garbage that I want to drive over it with my truck and then burn what's left.

Like almost every other shop vacuum manufacturer, the friction fit attachments, wand, and hose require Atlas-like strength to stay together. If you dont force them together, they simply come apart at the worst possible moment. Oh, I could count a million times this has happened to me. Recently, my wife was kind enough to clean my shop while I was away. Her first comment was "That shop vac is a real piece of crap. Now I know why it makes you so grumpy!"

Let's not forget the wheels either. Even the wheels are junk. Will these manufacturers ever learn to make a shop vac that can roll over its own power cord? When the wheels hit the cord, the whole unit comes to an abrupt halt; often pulling the hose apart from the wand (see above). Then you have to go back to the vacuum, spin it off the cord, and reassemble any parts that have come off.

The most used but least effective tool on the unit is the floor sweeper. Why oh why do they put the bristle part in front of the vacuum area on this fitting? It just makes the attachment spread the dirt. Honestly now, does this company ever try to use their own product? I doubt it.

The hose on these units are such a joke. Its like pulling a Slinky around the shop. The hoses are cheap and flimsy. Give the hose a slight tug and the shop vac does nothing. Give it a firm tug and it comes racing at you like greased lightning. Look out!

Then there's the filter issue. It clogs too easily. The only time you have real suction is when the filter is first cleaned. Within 5 minutes of use, more than half of the suction power is gone.

And lastly, there is a serious noise issue. A shop vac will make you deaf. The high pitch whine (even with the overpriced "muffler") drives an annoying sound through rooms, up stairs, and into your neighbor's house.

There are no good options for shop vacs. The Ridgid, Craftsman, and Shop Vac units are all the same. Each is junk. Save your money and buy a good quality broom and dust pan. Sweeping is fast, simple, and far less frustrating.

Use this often in the shop and our 1870 B and B. Love it.

We got this for our basement and also because my husband does a lot of home building projects and this vacuum has worked very well over the years. For the most part -- it has really stood up under the abuse (though the switch quit working shortly after we got it so the only way to turn it on and off is by plugging it in or unplugging it -- or using a power strip with a switch).

This thing has a LOT of power and will suck up virtually everything in its path -- so be sure you don't aim it at anything you DON'T want to have vacuumed up -- like small pets, clothing, etc.

I gave it 4 stars because of the switch malfunction and I would really like to see more attachments for smaller areas -- but that probably isn't totally fair since it really is intended for large spaces and heavy duty jobs. However, since it is down in the basement and garage area -- it would be great if there were attachments that would be a bit more "car friendly" so that you could get into the nooks and crannies of car interiors better.

All in all, I would definitely buy this again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone that was thinking about it. We wind up using it far more than I ever thought we would.
I have had a few Shop Vacs in my little workshp over the last 40 years. I have been adding them, not replacing them. They have proved to be extremely reliable... the oldest one still doing dust collection duty for my table saw. I just had a problem with my "newest" one, a 10 gal unit. I emailed Shop Vac and explained the problem. In about 1 hour they sent me a response and said they will ship a replacement part. They stand behind their products!

We bought this razor for my 85 year old father-in-law for Father's Day. He absolutely loves it. I was concerned that he might have difficulty understanding the cleaning system as his vision is not good, but he figured it out and can't stop raving about it.
I haven`t used an electric razor in quite a while.
For the price and quality 4 stars max.
I1ts not a blade and I have tough wiskers.
I have had several other brands over the years and about 15 years ago I started using Braun. This is my third razor and it is the best of the bunch. The cutting head is made different and it really works. It's a little harder to clean. You must be very carful of the screen and the cutting head but the inprovment in the performance more than makes up for the inconvience.
The Braun Syncro System shavers debuted in the US around the spring of 2000 with the 7000 series. They made quite a splash, looking quite different from the predecessor, the Braun Flex Integral (6000 series). I bought the 7526 model and used it for about 4 years before moving up to the 8000 Activator series. The model I actually have is the 8595. The 8995 is essentially the same model, only renamed with a different model convention (now 5 series instead of Activator system 8000 series).

If you can find the 8595 Activator for less money, get it instead of the 5 series 8995. The differences from the 8995 are only cosmetic, and minor at that.

MODELS
The Braun 5 Series line consists of several models: 8975, 8985, and 8995. The top of the line is, naturally, the 8995. I suggest you go to www.shavers.com to see the spec comparison, as this site does a good job of showing you the differences. In a nutshell, they ALL have the same motor and cut exactly the same. The differences are in the number of indicators (the 8995 has an LCD screen, while the 8575 and 8585 use LED lights), some additional chrome trim, and the inclusion of the cleaning system (the 8575 does not have it).

LCD INDICATOR
I chose the 8995(8595), because I wanted to have the LCD indicator (my prior model--the 7526--did not have one). The 8995 LCD will show you exactly how much charge you have left, how many minutes until fully charged, how many shaves your shaver has performed, and how many minutes you've spent shaving. Do you really need to know all this? Not really.

The LCD will also tell you how many shaves you've done. It makes a count after about 1 minute from shut-off. So, if you shut off the unit for a moment to do something then go back to shaving a minute later, your counter will now have 2 shaves logged. It's not very useful information. What Braun should really do with the LCD is display a total hours operated counter and then show a warning for changing the foil/cutter once 12 months has been reached (you'd then have the option to reset the warning). I don't care how many shaves I've taken! Incidentally, the new 5 series model that replaces the 8995 has done away with the LCD (Braun went back to using just LED indicators--cheaper and they probably realized the LCD is not all that useful anyway).

CHARGING
The unit fully charges in about an hour. That's quick. And once charged, it goes into a trickle charge mode so there's no danger of overcharging. The voltage control mechanism is very sophisticated and can take a wide range of voltages, worldwide. Braun perfected these electronics over several decades, so it has to be good. With models lacking an LCD, a red light will start to flash when the shaver charge is getting low. At that point, you've got about two shaves left. That's not bad. So, in essence, once it starts flashing you plug it in after your shaving is done. A full charge should last about 10 shaves. Compared to other shavers, this is quite competitive, especially given that it takes only 60 minutes to become fully charged. If you plug in for a few minutes, you can get about one shave without the cord, if the unit was fully discharged.

MOTOR
The motor is supposed to be one of the fastest on the market. It does operate well and it's relatively quiet compared with previous Braun shaver models. Braun designed it so that it also vibrates from side to side, essentially providing 4 cutting directions. In actuality, I do not think the side-to-side is very effective. I haven't changed my shaving stroke patterns and the time to complete my shave is always about the same (5 minutes).

EXTERIOR
The exterior of the 8995 is a sleek satin look silver, and has a very smooth touch. Braun did away with a lot of the "grip pips" that were found on previous models, leaving only a few in certain key areas. I think this was a mistake. The shaver grip isn't quite as good as it used to be--if your hands are wet, you might very well drop the shaver. And that silver skin is delicate. Mine dropped into the sink and suffered an abrasion (just a cosmetic issue). You might notice that there is a new 5 series model out (the 590cc replaces the 8995) which features a very prominent side grip design--this is much better. But that model is quite a bit more expensive.

CASE
I don't know if the 8995 comes with a case that holds only the shaver (no cord). My 8595 came with a hard plastic base and a flimsy plastic hinge that eventually broke off--useless. My old 7526 came with a faux leather pouch that holds the cord and shaver neatly. I don't know why Braun abandoned it (I now use it for my 8595).

CLEANING SYSTEM
I find this device very ingenious, for a variety of reasons. First, it really does clean the shaver well. Second, it isn't overbearingly loud. And third, it has indicators to show when cleaning and charging are done. The fourth is revenue. Braun was very clever about this. If men are only going to spend money once every two years on the foil and cutter block, how could they make more money? Well, this cleaning system is the key. If the cleaner is used the way Braun recommends, you end up replacing the cleaning cartridge every month. The smart thing to do is buy the "value pack", which brings the cost down to about $5 per cartridge. How do you know when to change it? Well, the cleaning system will tell you. It detects when there is a high amount of particles in the solution, or if the solution is too low to flow through, and will flash the red cartridge light while simply not running until you replace the cartridge. The cleaner unit itself is slightly big (about 7" tall x 5" round), but smaller than its predecessor (which was 12" tall with a flimsy lock that would break). I don't recommend bringing the cleaner with you when traveling (but you don't really need to clean everyday anyway).

But, I found a trick that Braun will probably shoot me for. I have been able to use a single cartridge for 1 full year before replacing. How did I do this? Well first of all, after each shave I dump my "whisker debris" down the sink, like you would normally do with the Flex Integral. It doesn't take long--simply pop off the foil, tap it in the sink, blow on both sides of the cutter block, replace the foil, and you're done in 10 seconds. This reduces the number of particles in the cleaning solution. So, why use the cleaning system at all, you may ask? It does do an excellent job of cleaning the cutter block, and whisker dust that is stuck on it and within the head and foil holder. A tedious task, even once or twice a week. When do I use the cleaning system? Well, usually whenever the shaver needs to be recharged. At this point, I take out the cartridge from my drawer, remove the top plugs, and slide it into the cleaner. Then I slide in the shaver and let the cleaner do its work. When the cleaning and charging is done, I remove the cleaning cartridge, reseal it with the plastic plugs, and put it away. This way the solution level does not get low from evaporation! Clever, eh? The only catch is that if you try to charge the shaver while mounted in the cleaner without the cartridge, it will not work. But you can always plug it in directly, without the cleaner. Anyway, that's my trick for getting around one this somewhat minor drawback. Some have said it's nice to have a "clean" shaver to use each time, but I find the cleaning process works well enough to use once per charge (just dump the whisker debris after each shave).

COMPETITION
Braun's biggest competitor is Norelco, with their triple floating head system that has been their mainstay technology since the 1970's. And it's rather surprising that they haven't improved it all that much over the course of nearly 40 years. Although the motor tends to be quieter than Braun, the Norelco cutting action seems to fall a little long. Plus, the Norelco heads are more expensive to replace. But you have to give it to Norelco--the Arcitec design looks amazing, more sophisticated than Braun's old foil shaver design. And you can thoroughly rinse out the heads using water, so no bothersome cleaning base (and cleaning solution purchase) is needed.

RECOMMENDATION
If price is no object, get the 8995. Otherwise, I recommend getting the 8985 or previous 8595 if you find it priced low enough. And don't forget the technique for extending the life of your
I bought this item less than six months ago, i.e. it's still under warranty. Last week the cleaning stand stopped working. After finally reaching Braun "Customer Service" today, I was informed that
1) I would have to send it to a service center in another state
2) It would take "at least" 2-3 weeks.
3) A temporary cheap replacement would take 2-3 weeks to arrive
4) I have to pay shipping to the repair location and make a long-distance call to them ahead of time to tell them it's coming. Who knows what's going to happen if/when I reach them.

Yes the fit is a little "snug" but that's a bonus. The air is cleaner after using this filter then the one that came with our dirt devil. I ordered two more, just in case.

The total length is 8" it measures 3.25" in diameter on the bottom where the hole is with a 1.75" diameter hole. It measures 2.75" in diameter at the top. I just ordered my C2094G and I am excited about it, pretty sick huh? I am looking forward to having a real vacuum cleaner without all the crap that marketeers pile on to get that emotional sale from uneducated buyers. I feel like it's Christmas!!
I really took my time looking for a vacuum and I'm not impressed by all the flashy spaceshuttle-looking vacuums out there. By the way, it is nearly impossible to find bagged vacuums anymore. I finally found this vacuum at Sams Club for $140. I'm really really satisfied with it. The suction is so powerful that it literally picks up my berber carpet. I rather like the no-frills design; I love classic style. The chrome looks pretty. What I don't understand is why everyone thinks it's heavy, it is not from my perspective. My last vacuum which I returned last week, a bissell, was huge, heavy, and very cumbersome to push. I returned the bissell because cleaning the bin was so messy and unhealthy--my husband got a sore throat from inhaling the dust when cleaning the bin. I find this vacuum to be light, compact, but very powerful. It uses half the number of amps (5 amps) than non-commercial vacuums but it appears to be more effective. From the looks of this vacuum I am willing to bet that it will survive much longer than my previous vacuums. I figure if hotels use it for daily use on dozens of hotel rooms, it should be able to handle my little space 2-3 times a week.
I bought this product be cause of the reviews, but I found they weren't correct, this vaccum is a pile of junk, it is noisey, it is hard to push, and it dumps the things it picks up back on the carpet or floor, the only thing good about this machine is the cord at least they were smart enough to put a decent cord on it, The next time I will buy at a local store, at least I can tell them in person what a bad product they have
We bought this vacuum a little over 2 years ago. AT FIRST I loved it. It is very heavy..but it did do a good job. Now that we have stairs to go up it made me not even want to vacuum because it was so heavy to carry up the steps and awkward to carry. We have a german shepard who sheds a lot and it just can't keep up with the fur. The handle doesnt release anymore easily. I have to literally bang it off the ground to get it to release and sometimes even that doesn't work. Changing the bag doesn't do anything for picking up the fur and nothing is clogged in the brushes. I am going to TRY to contact the customer service dept but I'm sure we're past the warranty period. But I just used those words last night to my husband that I hate this vacumm!! I bought a Kemore Quick Clean last night and I love it and it was half the price of this. Amazing on the pet hair. I can't believe what the eureka was leaving behind. Unbelievable! Buy a kenmore instead and save!!
This vacuum is built like the old ones. Our family used to have a baby blue one, and we loved it!!! I honestly don't expect to replace this one for 20 years!! I too am a vacuum nut, and am finally satisfied. The suction power is incredible. When I lift up the vacuum while its running, it sucks the carpet up off the pad!!!! Just as if I pinched the nap and pulled on it!!! And the 50 foot cord is very handy.

We used to have a "windtunnel" kennmore, and was always replacing the filter, and it never really cleaned very well because of the filters being clogged with every single use. In my experience, bag less vacuums never work as well as the "bag" vacuums. This vacuum gets a new filter with each bag!! We are using it with the Filteraire bags part# 57695B which have the 3M filtration.

I would suggest the previous reviewer with the cats check the connection from the base unit to the bag for any hairballs that may be clogging it. Also with cats, it may be necessary to replace the bags more often. When the bag is full, to the line marked on it, it won't clean anymore. But that's true with any vacuum. When the filter, rather bag or external is clogged, your suction goes out the window.

"Modern Vacuum Practice"by Nigel Harris is an easy book to read, and it follows well. Although there are many books available on the subject of vacuum technology, not too many of them incorporate latest technologies in hybrid pumps, dry pumps, and gauging. In other words, Harris has included the most recent advances in vacuum in his book."Modern Vacuum Practice"does not bog the reader down with tedious mathematical equations and a lot of physics-related theory. But, rather offers easy text that explains well what theory otherwise leaves to the reader. For the technician, this is a book that should be on the"must read"list because it describes the fundamental concepts of vacuum technology, and describes basic equipment.
Modern Vacuum Practice is an easy-to-understand introduction to high vacuum technology suitable for anyone using high vacuum as a tool. The author provides a fundamentally non-mathematical treatment of the subject, assuming little or no prior vacuum knowledge throughout. Hoover has a very messy house. It gets so messy that he gets himself a vacuum. He falls in love with this vacuum and literally marries it. Well soon the vacuum falls in love with a lawn mower that was married to a woman. Soon the woman and the man are married and the machines are married.

This book reminds me of how people love their things so much they might as well be married to them.
This is one of our all time favorites. Very quirky and creative, it is written in verse that my children loved. They were so involved and interested, and I read it so many times, that they memorized it and were able to "read" it to me well before they went to school. The drwaings are interesting and detailed, appealing to both kids and adults. Two thumbs up!
Not since the fabulous tale of acrobat potatoes "Brave Potatoes" have I been so captivated, mesmerized, enraptured by such a wonderful book. Zany, Wacky, Funny, Imaginative, I Married a Hoover is Dr. Seuss for the older kids, complete with rhyme, ridiculous situations, offbeat likable characters, humorous, titillating illustrations, and more fun than an all you can eat potato buffet.
No, "Hoover's Bride" is not educational, but so what. Its fun, offbeat humor is a fulfilling joy, and the accompanying graphics just add to the delirium. Hand this baby to a reluctant reader and watch what happens.

I loved this book, and everyone to whom I showed it couldn't hold back a smile.
This is a children's book about a man who marries a vacuum cleaner named Elektra; the wedding is unusual considering that the bride wears chrome wheels, a dust ruffle, and a grapefruit sized diamond engagement ring at the end of her hose. The marriage sours on the very first night as Elektra runs off with a woman's husband, who happens to be a lawnmower.

The book is written in rhyming couplets (which frequently don't have very good meter, as if the kids will care), and is certainly original. The moral appears to be that humans should not marry machines. I bought this as a gift for a friend who also happens to be a vacuum cleaner aficionado; I am certain he will enjoy reading it to his daughters, although I am less certain of their reaction.

The book is certainly unprecedented, but given the enormous number of children's books to choose from, this one really isn't particularly entertaining or educational in any way, although the drawings of the vacuum cleaner with facial features (Is it a seven foot nose or a hose?) are wryly disturbing. In other words, it isn't emotionally scarring for life, but it isn't Beatrix Potter, either.

This is a most peculiar book.
