Pain in the butt process: Fill with small amount of water, wait three minutes for it to heat up, use for 1-3 minutes before item runs out of water, wait five minutes for item to cool down before opening the pressure chamber to refill... repeat. Total waste of time.』

『Miele vacs are terrific, even the cheapest ones. And the bags are great. Each box comes with the little filters you should change every now and then. The bags install easily, have a nice little flap thing that keeps dust from flying all around when you remove them, they seems to work even when you are too lazy to change them when you should and they don't break or anything.

No dust haze or little sparkles in the sunny air.

My last box was about $3 cheaper, so the price went up a big percentage. Miele may be gouging some here. I blame Miele because the price is the same everywhere. In my wooden-floored house, they last too long for me to worry about the infrequent purchase price.』

I picked up some cheap ones (not Eureka brand)at walmart, and they are fine. I guess EXT means extra thick, which also means less pliable. Maybe it was just a bad batch, but I'll stick to off brand from now on.』

『This is an excellent book for people new to electronics and vacuum tubes. It slowly takes you through basic electronic concepts using a vacuum tube as the teaching tool. For someone new to these basics, it would make a good primer with the added plus of understanding the tube as well as the basic electronic principles.
I was a TV/stereo service tech back when tubes were being phased out in the industry and was looking for a refesher. While it does serve that purpose, the 1st half of the book covers electron movement, the difference between an insulator and conductor, and similar principles. This makes a more experienced reader anxious for it to get into tne meat of the matter. It does this slowly in the 2nd half in a very methodical way.
Slow moving, but full of information.』

(Well written basics)
『Inside the Vacuum Tube was written in the late 1940s. It apparently came out of the author's experience in teaching electronics to military personnel during World War 2. The author begins with fundamental concepts of electronics. He then adds discussion of what a vacuum tube is, and some fundamental concepts concerning them. He goes on to discuss Diodes, Triodes, Tetrodes, and Pentodes. He also discusses the Cathode circuit, Power Amplifiers, and miscellaneous vacuum tubes (including the Cathode Ray Tube of television and computer monitor fame).

This is a generally well written book. The author assumes very little about the education of his readers beyond the ability to do high school level algebra. A few of the examples he uses would be more familiar to a farmer than a city dweller though.

The main drawback of the book is the somewhat cyclical discussion of various fundamental concepts. The author brings up the same points a number of different times in the text with only gradually decreasing volume - he'll discuss a concept in one chapter, and then in the next chapter he'll spend a bit less space on the same topic, etc.

Because few textbooks written in the last few decades spend much effort discussing vacuum tubes, this is a good resource for those who want to learn about them. It covers the basic concepts very thoroughly, while giving a good number of clear jumping off points for further research if desired.』

(Best in the world at what it does, the only book that does what it does)
『"Inside the Vacuum Tube," written in 1945, is the best book in the world at what it does, because to my knowledge it is the only book that does what it does, which is to educate a reader without benefit of basic knowledge of electricity on the fundamentals of vacuum tubes. If you want an original copy of this book, a search of the Internet reveals that it will cost you more than $200; it is fortunate then that it has been reprinted and is available in paperback for $30. It is a most useful starting point for learning about tubes, their construction and their operation, even if you are otherwise experienced in electronics (involving transistors). There is a certain "culture" that surrounds working with tubes, and I don't know how one picks up this knowledge today; certainly it is not taught in schools. By putting you back in time when tubes were in their hey-day, this book fills in some things that no one seems to mention anymore. For example, it is common to hear people who work with tube circuits to refer to the "B+" - the what? In this book you learn that the voltage supplied to the tube heaters is (or was) called the A voltage, the voltage to the plate of the tube was referred to as the B voltage, and the voltage to the grids was called the C voltage. Nice. Now, instead of parroting what everyone else says, you will know where this terminology came from. Likewise with transconductance, the "gm." What's the "m" in gm? Transconductance used to also be called the mutual conductance, which is what I assume the m in gm signifies.

The book takes a reader with no knowledge of basic electricity and qualitatively delves into the physics of what is happening inside a vacuum tube. The discussion of the space charge layer surrounding the cathode is well done, and the author uses it repeatedly in explaining the operation of tubes. The book really is an excellent place to get started. There is a great discussion of I-V characteristics, load lines and dynamic transfer characteristics, concepts that are also used in transistor electronics, but you see how these concepts were developed first with tubes. It is very nice how the author proceeds from a discussion of the diode, to the triode, and then finally to the tetrode and pentode. Understanding the triode is the core material of the book.

So why only 4 stars then? The strength of the book is also its weakness. In attempting to reach a reader without preparation in technical matters, the author takes the time to explain topics that anyone with a high-school education would know; plotting a function, for example. The book begins with cartoon depictions of electrons jumping off the cathode, and these are very nice and creative, up to a point. Einstein said you should make things as simple as possible, but no simpler. After several chapters of cartoons, the author states, (I'm paraphrasing) "OK, from now on we're going to take off the training wheels," but invariably he then says, "But first ..." and he returns to baby talk. While the level of the material in succeeding chapters does get more detailed, the author can't seem to get beyond his role as educator for the hopelessly lost, and so in each chapter it seems he starts over from the beginning in certain respects. He is quite repetitive and wordy; one reason may be because he is loath to use symbols and mathematics. If you can't resort to symbols to represent concepts, you are doomed to repeating the same long-winded explanations. There are a few pitfalls the reader should be aware of. The author's depiction of electric field lines is backwards from modern usage; the author draws field lines in showing what an electron would do, whereas today electric field lines are defined in terms of positive charges. Beware the author's use of negative numbers, as in voltages being "more negative" than others, when in actuality he means the opposite. When the author speaks about negative voltages, for example on the grid of the tube, he often means the absolute magnitude of the voltage.

All in all, however, this is an excellent book and is probably unique. I wish I knew of a nice "second" book on vacuum tubes to read. The present book, Inside the Vacuum Tube, will have prepared you admirably for that next book, whatever it is.』

(Fein 9-11-55, 6 gallon Turbo Vac)
『This is my second Fein 6 gallon vac. I used the last one regularly for over 10 years in my construction business mostly as a drywall sanding vacuum used in conjunction with a Porter Cable 10" drywall sander and hand mesh screen sanders. It received extra heavy duty working many recovery jobs after Katrina here in New Orleans and it was an amazing tool. After that punishment it began running overspeed and the repair was almost as much as purchasing a new one so I bought new Fein vac. (The same thing happened with the repair of my Fein Multimaster tool.) They have improved this model greatly over the first one. My only complaint, still no tool storage.
When this one dies I will buy another one.

(Excellent in the home and shop)
『I use the 9-11-55 weekly in my garage and around the house, vacuuming areas around the deck, garage, and cleaning out fire places. The hose detaches quickly and the vac is relatively light, so it's easy to transport up and down stairs. The 9-11-55 picks up much more than our regular house vac, and with its long hose is great for hard-to-reach places. A kit of accessories is available that lets you extend the hose, add a foam filter for water work, or add one of several adaptors for upholstery, crevices, floors, etc. I use these accessories frequently.

Yes, the vacuum, bags and accessories are expensive. But they are high quality and hold up under frequent, heavy use. I've used "Shop-Vacs" in the past and none come close to the Fein. In this case, you do get what you pay for.』

『This is a great little vacuum. The wheels don't fall off, the hose locks onto the vacuum, it's easy to remove and re-attach the motor for dumping. The power cord is heavy gage and is just the right length. It's light enough to easily become a standard tool for the finish carpenter. And the auto switch is the best. It doesn't get every speck of dust that comes out of a miter saw but it does get the tiny fine dust that clouds the air and sticks to the walls.』

(Small, Quiet, Powerful)
『We recently purchased two of these vacuums as presents for our two sons based on over 5 years of experience with our own vacuum. Originally attracted by the low decibel rating (63 dB) and the Fein name, it has lived up to our expectations in every way. Extremely quiet (no shouting or even ear muffs necessary for short use), light weight when empty and relatively easy to carry when full and excellent suction are great features. The ability to plug in a dust-producing piece of equipment (sander, chop-saw, etc.) and have the vacuum go on and off with the equipment is a tremendous time-saver and dust eliminator. With the use of a HEPA filter, this vacuum leaves no dust behind.

We thought the Fein HEPA filter a bit pricey so my husband replaced the mounting screw with a longer one that would accommodate the much cheaper Sears HEPA filter.

I notice that the latches are now made of plastic instead of the metal clasps on our vacuum. I hope they hold up as well.

Very highly recommended. Although Fein makes two larger models that have the auto-start system, they both are louder and heavier - features that are less desirable for a home remodeller. We have basically stopped using our other shop-vacs.』

『The hose on these units are such a joke. Its like pulling a Slinky around the shop. The hoses are cheap and flimsy. Give the hose a slight tug and the shop vac does nothing. Give it a firm tug and it comes racing at you like greased lightning. Look out!』

『I bought this hose to vent the exhaust pipe of my car out of the garage, through a homemade port, for warm-ups.... works great, and I had enough left over to lengthen my shop vac hose by 6ft!!』

(Good hose)
『Hose is good and resists kinking/deforming well, but they do build up a good amount of static cling :) Can get these for about the same price at your local big box stores (about $20 to $25).』

『I got my original hose with the 10 Gal stainless QSP Shopvac over 10 years ago and within a few years the plastic ends of the hose started breaking down and despite my best efforts to glue them back together they just disintegrated. The hose is still fine but is rendered useless without the rotating cuffs on the ends. I just wish the cuffs could be ordered separately. I just bought the 8 foot hose that does have removable ends but no part numbers for those parts either. I'm hoping that the plastic in the newer ends holds up better. I'm using my shopvac in a machine shop environment and I'm pretty sure the cutting oil I'm using is affecting the plastic.』

One unexpected bonus. The hose connectors are easily removed from the hose itself. This means that it is easy to shorten the hose to the perfect length.』
『This ten foot long hose can be used with any 2.5in accessory. Large diameter helps prevent clogs when vacuuming bulky debris. 10ft hose is excellent for bulky dry material like wood shavings plus provides extra reach over our shorter hoses.』

(Great for small messes on the floor)
『We have two long haired dogs and this does well for vacuuming the hair that collects in corners (on hard floors). It does well on dry messes too (sand, coffee, soil, etc). It's handy for vacuuming the car as well. It will get the majority of the mess off the carpet, but it does not get down into the fibers of the carpet so you are better off using a normal vacuum for that. Also, it does not get dog hair out of carpeted stairs.』

『This thing picks up the lint you want in addition to the slightest bit of dust. It then promptly blows the dust out into the room via the poorly fitting seam where it breaks apart for cleaning.』

(So Far a Great Compact Hand Vacuum)
『Have only had this vac a few months, so I can't assess the important issue of battery life, which is my most important criteria for hand vacuums. But, I do like everything about this vac so far. Two likes are:

1. Lightweight - Easy to slide into hard to reach places without getting "tennis elbow" doing so. Won't remove deep seated items, but that's not why I buy these small, convenient vacs.

2. Power Connection - Many vacs I've owned in the past have bulky power docs that never seem to mount conveniently or sit stably when I need to charge&store the vac. This model has a simple, small power plug that slips into the end of the vac and allows me to store the vac in the kitchen in a wine bottle basket and hide the cord.... I found a blue wicker wine bottle basket that matches the vacs color and holds the vac like it was made for it. No one even knows that my vac is in the kitchen. All those worthless wall mount power stations are usually placed in the garage out of sight. So, this vac stays where it belongs and where I use it.

If this vac has good battery life, it will get my A+ rating ....... more later.』

(where does all the solution go?)
『It makes a person wonder where does all the solution go? After using all the solution from the tank only 1-2 tablespoons of dirty fluid collected in the dirty chamber...hmmm....is the rest being left in the upholstery? I will keep on trying....Loved the results!』

(Really needs more power.)
『I've had mine for about two years and while it's excellent for very small areas (about 1 to 1-1/2 square feet), it's really intended for spots about the size of a pet stain or spilled juice.

Some problems I've experienced over the past two years:
1) Battery life is marginal. I can get one, maybe two spots cleaned and then the unit needs to be charged overnight. So, if I have another spot, it waits until tomorrow.
2) The suction is decent, but in many cases (for me, at least) not quite adequate. I would recommend a good plug-in wet-dry vac to really get the water out. You'll find this device only sucks out about half the water it lays down. Good, but wish it were better.

On the plus side:
1) It's compact! It can go on trips in the van. And it fits in small spaces.
2) When you have a small spill, it's very convenient vs. dragging out an orchestra of cleaning devices, liquids, and tools.

Mixed thoughts:
1) The cleaning solution intended for this device is good, but I have had equal success with regular household cleaners (mild dish soap) and water on certain spills. Sometimes (if your carpet can handle it) Simple Green works reasonably well. The big drawback with the cleaning solution is that it's outrageously priced for the quantity you get.

Overall, it's a decent machine, but it's not terribly useful for general household cleaning or when you have a regular procession of stains to clean.』

『The Spotlifter works OK, but I couldn't rate it much higher. It needs to have a rotating brush to really get into the carpet fibers. Without a rotating brush the unit is really no better than using a spray cleaner and a hand brush.』

What good is a DC if you don't use it (out of laziness)? So I plunked down the few extra bucks for this item. I never looked back. Plug it in, slip the battery into the remote control and you're done. It works like a charm. That simple. All products should work this well. Highly recommended.』

『I just received this today. Despite the reviews indicating that it would be a simple 'plug and play' I was doubtful. I unearthed the equipment, inserted the battery, plugged everything in and...good grief, it worked like a charm! What decadent pleasure. After multiple trips to turn on and off my dust collector in the past, the ability to now remotely manage my DC is delightful. I have the remote hanging on my carpenter's apron and can now turn the DC system on and off at will. To be honest, I wasted a few minutes just remotely turning it on and off for the shear pleasure of it. I even tested the distance and discovered that it was effective outside of my garage from a distance of at least 50 feet. This is some of the best money I have spent in my shop!』

『This this great....I have a ton of DeWalt items and this litle baby comes with another charger and battery. Plug it in and you are on your way to a clean day..last about 45 minutes without shuting it off. I use it on my car, home (vents, baseboards, spills, etc), everywhere.....good stuff.』

『All of my cordless tools are deWalt, so it's nice being able to share batteries.
I've been using it for about 1 year.
Here's what I like about it:
1. strong suction
2. easy to clean
3. batteries last long (at least compared to a Craftsman vac I had)

Here's what I don't like about it:
1. no crevice tool, nor is it an option. I've even tried looking for another brand, in the hopes I could use it on the DeWalt.
2. Without the crevice tool I've been unable to clean out things like elevator tracks.
3. It's the best out there but that's only because the other ones just aren't that good.
4. why the heck they didn't include a crevice adapter is a mystery.
5. I would have given it an 90 out of 100 (A-) with a crevice tool but I'm giving it a 74 without it (C).』

『This little DC515K vac has unbelievable suction, and to me is ideal for light dust and debris cleanup from hard surfaces and very small rugs, like in the bath. It is *not* a large or heavy duty vac and should not be confused with such appliances, but it's by far the most powerful and capable battery-powered hand vac I've ever tried. I use it with either my old Dirt Devil corded hand-vac's attachments or my Hoover Wind Tunnel upright's wands and attachments to go around my hard floored living areas daily, and to dust above floors weekly. Cleaning up all the visible detritus in 1200 sq. feet takes about 15 minutes, leaving no more dust or bird feathers or hair on the ground or in the air, and no cobwebs in the corners or crumbs under chairs either. Its exhaust is totally clean, which alone makes this SO much better than raising all that dust with a broom and dust pan. A fully charged battery lasts 25 minutes before it even starts to slow down. It's actually almost perfect, with the biggest exception being its high-pitched whine that is especially irritating to my ear, though it is bearable. And it's super not having to fight with a cord, too.

Another huge plus over many other battery-powered tools is that the DC515K comes with DeWalt's wonderful smart charger, which in my view is essential for rechargeable convenience. So many other makers tell you to only leave the battery plugged in for 20 hours or some other silly thing which makes their tool impossible to manage and ruins the batteries fast for folks like me with other things to remember. But these DeWalt 18V tools go forever with the charger that always turns out a tip-top conditioned battery with no "memory" problems or overheat problems, and the battery's ready to go in a couple of hours.

In a perfect world, the DC515K could lose the high pitched whine, could be lighter, and could come with a shoulder strap for those like me who use it with attachments. Speaking of which, it could actually come with its own attachments, since the standard universal slip-on ones fit fine. Emptying the bagless debris catcher and cleaning the round filter, while easy enough, always gets a little of that fine vacuum dust on my hands, and so might be better engineered. It could also be sold without the battery and charger for people like me that already have plenty of those from other DeWalt 18V purchases. I love my drill, mini circular-saw, and the flashlight, too.

Despite the possibility of a few minor improvements, I recommend this little dynamo most highly to those who look around their home and wish for an easy way to rapidly and neatly suck up all that dust and debris that collects on their hard surfaces.

Lastly, I guess it's OK to tell you that I found it for a good bit less with free shipping by googling DC515K. But thanks to Amazon for being there for us and usually having the lowest price!』
