(A fun game for kids, and the parents who play with them. :-)) 『My kids love the Bakugan spheres...it's a kind-of mashup of the classic game of Marbles and some of the new anime-based games like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-OH! The "live" game is cool because the engineering behind the spheres is really cool. Roll them onto a metal card and a magnetic switch activates, popping open the thing to reveal a robotic character. Some of them are really intricate and amazing; my kids have played with them for a year or more now and still not a single malfunction.
Anyway, one downside to the "real" Bakugan game is that all that engineering comes at a price; I figured the video game would allow us to buy one thing and all the collectables would be included in the game, and so far I was right.
Basically there are a couple of modes of interest...story line (where you have to defeat an increasing level of computer opponents in order to see the whole story unfold), and arena (where you can just play the game against the computer or against up to 3 other friends).
My 6 year old can play it, though it took a little practice to be able to grasp the sphere and throw it accurately. Steering it is something new that you couldn't do in a "live" game and it's pretty cool. The game otherwise plays just like the "real" game except there is a skill-based element at the very end of the battle that allows you to boost your models's GP a bit to break a tie (or win a close match). It really helps to be able to read. A 6 year old can noodle around by himself/herself, but an adult will have to help navigate the storyline. An 8 year old could probably figure it all out, and a 10 year old or older should have no problem. My 4 year old likes to watch, but just isn't ready to put it all together.
My one complaint is that the instruction manual is VERY basic. You basically have to figure out how to do things like edit your deck, swap out your Bakugan, and even how to set the game up so you can play against a friend instead of a computer opponent. This seems to be a trend in videogaming these days...give you the structure and force you to figure out the rest as "part of the fun". It is, kind of, but it's also a bit frustrating at times.
Anyway, we've had the game for 2 days and we've played the heck out of it. It's a lot of fun and something I can do with my kids and everyone has a good time.
I think it's essential that you've either watched the Tee Vee show or played the actual game before. Getting dumped into this universe cold will simply lead to confusion.
Story The story ofBakugan: Battle Brawlersrevolves around a set of metallic cards that mysteriously fall from space. On finding them, kids from around the planet discover that the cards also provide access to a variety of monsters that can be pitted against each other and so develop a game based on the cards and monsters and set up tournaments. One group of these kids, who name themselves the "Bakugan Battle Brawlers" and who are led by Dan, find that the cards also serve as a link to a parallel dimension known as Vestroia. Here they discover that the game and its monsters that they are dedicated to mastering is tied to an imbalance of positive and negative energy in Vestroia. This imbalance must be corrected to avoid unspeakable consequences for Vestroia, and since a link has been made to the Earth, eventually the kids' home as well.

Gameplay Those who have played the popular Bakugan card game might already have an idea of how gameplay works inBakugan: Battle Brawlers, but the video game adds several new elements. The game is something of a cross between marbles and a live action card game. To get started you'll first need to enter your name, select an attribute and create your character. Then you'll be ready to explore the world ofBakugan. If you can't wait to start battling your friends, then head straight to the Battle Arena, but if you want to be the best you have to learn the rules. The goal ofBakugan: Battle Brawlersis to win the game by collecting three "gate cards." Gate cards are collected by winning battles against opponents. As a starting move each player sets down one metallic gate card. Then you're ready to roll your Bakugan, which is in the form of a ball. After throwing you can steer your Bakugan around the environment so that it lands on the perfect card and collects powerups. The aim is to get your Bakugan to stand on a card, and that happens when they roll over it slowly. Once the Bakugan stands, it will transform into Battle Mode. Now you're ready to battle. A battle begins when two Bakugan from different players stand on the same gate card. The gate card then opens and both bakugan transform into Monster Mode, and are ready to fight. The gate card can add "G-Power" to a Bakugan according to its world attribute (color) and can also change the rules of the battle. Players can also boost their G-power by doing well in battle. The Bakugan with the highest G-power at the end of the battle wins.After battling, you can also use the points you have won to upgrade your Bakugan, acquire new in-game items, engage in Tag Team or Battle Royale action, or hone your skills by practicing your moves and strategy with Dan.

My only real complaints with RB2 is that some of the songs are just not a lot of fun to play and are WAY too long to be enjoyable (Teen Age Riot by Sonic Youth and Everlong by The Foo Fighters are a few examples.) However, the sheer number of songs that are available on the disc and the number that you can download (some of which are free) make Rock Band 2 a must play if you enjoy music games.』

Gameplay Its mario party! You hit dice and move along a gameboard like candyland. There are blue, red, yellow, and green squares along your path. If you land on a blue square you get 3 coins if you land on a red square you loose 3 coins. Yellow gives you minigames that allow you to gain or take coins from people. The game has power ups and downs that allow you to wreck havoc on your opponents. You can play for a certain set of turns like 10 or more turns. After each turn there is a minigame to play with a friend or cpu that if you win will reward you coins. The object of the game is to find and obtain yellow stars. Each map has different ways to get stars some will require you to simply make it to the star first while others will require you to pay a certain number of coins for a star. After your turns are up, teh team with the most stars wins. 5/5
Controls It's very simple and uses the wii to the best of its ability. To hit the dice you simply move the wii remote up in a tapping motion. To throw darts you would use the wii remote as if you were throwing a real dart. All the minigames require you to tilt or move the remote a certain way to move your character or item. This allows you to bond more with the game and it adds more fun and value to your wins. 5/5
Graphics The graphics are well done for a mario game. The maps are beautiful especially the beach and monopoly themed maps. You will have a lot of fun playing through all the maps and themes. 5/5
Characters There are a lot of different characters to play with. Some have to be unlocked but they are really fun to play with. Each character has a personality and talks a bit. If they loose coins they sigh or say no, if they gain coins they say yes or way to go. If during gameplay you move the wii remote in any dirrection your characters will make random noise as to try to pep you up. Its really fun and really well done. 5/5
Maps My only issue so far with the maps are that there arnt enough. I believe there are only 6 maps maybe 7. The maps are fun to play yes but i would have expected more maps to play maybe at least 10. Unfortunatly this is where the game falls flat. After awhile you just dont want to play the same maps again and again. 2/5
All and all this is a great game that i would recommend for adults and children alike. It is great fun for the family or friends and allows people to just break away and have a good time.』

Mario Party used to keep me and my friends and my family playing for hours on end and have lots of fun trying to beat each other, stay ahead, and beat each other to a pulp in scores and winning by longshots in mini-games. Now, there's almost no innovation. We've seen it all before. Sure, some of the mini-games (which is the majority of the game) are new, but no stunning new ideas. The controls on some of the games are funky, in particular "Flip the Chimp". How anyone plays this game, we have no idea. The idea of the game is have your robotic monkey climb a pole, and flip him from left to right to avoid having his head hit by coconuts by swinging your wii remote from side to side. Plain and simple, it DOESN'T WORK. Also, rowing a boat to get to the finish line first. Just as it sounds, you row with your Wii Remote. Plain and simple, it DOESN'T WORK.
Even the graphics don't present anything very good for the Wii.

What a disappointment. My friend hasn't played the Mario Party series before so I was embarrassed after we finished a 10-round match, having spoken so highly of the game. It was probably my mistake to assume that MP 8 would be a worthy follow-up to its predecessors.
My thoughts, in bullet point form: - The emcee is no longer the sun/moon character but this bizarro hat and duck (?) combo. Both of them have eyes and mouths and the two of them trade off when talking to the player. I don't understand why the developer felt the need to insert this annoying new character--it's not even drawn to look like a cute or clever Nintendo creation, just some mash-up of weird parts. - The games are not creative or whimsical at all. There's one where you drive go-karts around to pop balloons; a 1v3 minigame where you are seated in weird bird-shaped planes and you try to avoid having your 2 ballons from getting shot; a game where you just shake your controller as hard as possible to flag down a ship to rescue you from a deserted island. When you're playing with a group of people, none of the minigames makes you and your friends want to shout in excitement or defeat after a close and challenging match--there's just no feeling of thrill or satisfaction. - To a previous reviewer's point, the game only makes incidental use of the wiimote and its full capabilities. The majority of the games have you holding the controller old-school style, where your left hand controls up-down-left-right and the right hand hits the 1 or 2 buttons.
I hope the publisher comes up with some new ideas for the next installment in the series, where the wiimote's full range of motions is incorporated into the minigames. I probably would have given MP 8 a worse rating, if it weren't for the fact that I bought it used on Amazon for $[...], including shipping.
