Gohan is fully grown and off to high school handling problems a little different from fighting. There are two new additions to the DBZ gang in the hilarious tag team of Trunks and Goten and now that Cell is gone Mr. Satan hogs all the glory of being the greatest hero and saving the world. This point of the DBZ series has possitives and negatives. The parts I like are the expansion of the Otherworld universe showing us that King Kai is not the only omnipitant being in the world beyond. In fact there are more powerful Kais that have even bigger roles to play in this story. Explaning the world of Dragon Ball Z outside of fighting is great to see because this show has a lot more to offer than just amazing fights. This season brings back the old comedic charm of Dragon Ball. The only negative I see is just the story once again grinds to a hault and it just moves so slow. So what do you do you bring back the World Martial Arts Tournament. Unfortunatly when the fighting is only for fun it just makes you crave another villian. Still, the interesting part is there is a villian among the heroes the question is who could it be?』 (Great "DragonBall Z" boxset!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I've been a diehard "DragonBall Z", "DragonBall GT", and "DragonBall" fan ever since I was six years old and I love this DVD box set! Continuing from where Season Six(The Cell Games Saga) left off, Goku is still in the Other World and is training, then fights in an afterlife tournament there; meanwhile, the other good guys, after a while where Gohan is The Great Saiyaman, decide to fight in the World Tournament. Eventually, towards the very end of the World Tournament Saga, two henchmen, Spopovitch and Yamu, the henchmen of Babidi, yet another one of my favorite villains from the series, that's in the next boxset, go to the tournament, fight against Videl, Hercule's daughter, and steal energy from her, and then fly off to Babidi's Spaceship, prompting the Z-Fighters to fly off after them, leading up to the next boxset. There are a lot of new characters in this saga, such as Pikkon, Aqua, Frog, Onion, and many other fighters in both the afterlife tournament and the World Tournament, and Videl, Hercule's daughter. You get all of the episodes from Season Seven(the Great Saiyaman and World Tournament Sagas combined), such as when Goku fights in the afterlife tournament, when the other good guys fight in the World Tournament, and when Spopovitch and Yamu steal some of the energy to revive Majin Buu and fly off to Babidi's Spaceship and the good guys fly off after them. The only things I miss from this boxset are that there's no scene selection feature and that the American music Bruce Faulconer made isn't there, but the show is still amazing! I love this boxset and I can't wait to get this and the rest of the "DragonBall Z", "DragonBall GT", and "DragonBall" boxsets that I don't have yet!』 (Great series, another average DVD set, not the best episodes) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Dragon Ball Z is the one greatest anime series ever created. With its action-packed universe and compelling storylines, Akira Toriyama's magnum opus has never failed to please. This is the latest season set FUNimation has released of the series. This set picks up where the last one left off. Cell is dead, but Goku died in the process. Everyone has gotten on with their lives. Goku enters a tournament in the afterlife, fighting against some interesting, often dangerous opponents. Seven years later, Gohan has grown into a teenager, and has taken up crimefighting in addition to his schoolwork. He now has a younger brother, as well. The World Martial Arts Tournament is coming up, and the powers that be in the afterlife have granted Goku permission to come back to Earth for 24 hours for the tournament. He's going to be needed - a new evil scheme is in the works. The DVD set is divided amongst six discs, and contains the complete Afterlife Tournament, Saiyaman, and World Tournament Sagas. The picture has been subjected to digital noise reduction, and the set includes a booklet of character profiles and episode listings. Obviously, if you're new to Dragon Ball Z, you'll want to start with the Season One box set, but if you're already a fan, you'll enjoy these episodes. Unfortunately, these are some of the weaker episodes of the series. The Afterlife Tournament is a filler, though it has its moments. The Saiyaman and World Tournment episodes tend to drag on, and not much happens. Of the nine season sets, these episodes are my least favorite. Still, they have their moments and it's essential to completists. One of my personal favorite features of the set is the Marathon feature. FUNimation includes a feature in these sets that allows you to view all of the episodes on each disc from start to end with no interruptions from intros/outros/recaps/etc. This is an extremely handy feature I wish more TV shows on DVD had. Like earlier Dragon Ball Z season sets, the picture has been cropped at the top and bottom (this was done due to excessive grain and damage to the original source), and it has been subjected to the digital noise reduction process. Obviously a lot of fans, myself included, were disappointed to see the picture get cropped. While the digital noise reduction doesn't do as thorough a job cleaning up the image as you'd hope, it IS the best these episodes have ever looked. In other words, it's a "give and take" scenario. You lose some of the picture you could see on earlier full-frame DVDs, but on the good side, you gain some picture on the sides, and the image quality is superior to all earlier DVD releases. Sound quality is similar to the earlier sets. English audio quality is fantastic, but the dub is still translated poorly and the voice cast is hit and miss. On the other hand, the Japanese audio quality is poor, showing its age, but it does feature a well-translated subtitle track from Steven J. Simmons that lets you experience the series as originally intended. Additionally, like the earlier sets, you have the option of watching the English voice cast played against the original Japanese audio. Disappointingly, the next episode previews aren't included. But they weren't in any earlier season set, so it's no big surprise. No special features are included here unless you count the trailers and the same textless opening/closing sequence all other sets like this have had. On the good side, the set does include a booklet similar to the earlier sets, with character profiles and an episode guide, making it handy to go right where you need to go on the DVDs. It's another good Dragon Ball Z season set, enough said. Not my favorite episodes, but essential for completists all the same. If you're a fan of the series and don't already have these episodes, you can get them all here for one low price. Cropping issues aside, this is a great set, and a good value, especially compared to the older DVD releases. Highly recommended to any fan of Dragon Ball Z.』 (Epic) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Hey everyone, if you like DBZ just as much as i do, then you'll love this DVD just as much as the other Seasons. In this particular season set of coures the season starts kinda boring with the Sayaman saga but comes to life as soon as Gohan starts training Videl.』 (Meh) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『 This saga is okay, but nothing special. I liked it because it offered a change of pace from what normally goes on, but in the end, nothing really happens, which kind of annoyed me by the time I was on the last DVD. You get to watch Gohan growing up and going to school for most of it, which I found funny and enjoyable....but when the World Saga tournament hits, it kind of goes downhill and ends up with basically "buy Season 8" because it tells you nothing of what's going on if you don't. Overall it's not terrible, but it lacks a villain to get into(it lacks action overall), and is easily the shortest length of all the DVD season sets by Funimation because of this. Quirky fun, and most likely, you're going to need this set for your collection, otherwise this is one I'd say most people can skip if they are just into the epic battles and struggle for survival. 』 『Seven years have passed since the tournament in which Gohan defeated Cell. Goku remains in the Next World, rather than risk attracting more evil beings to Earth, but he cheerfully trains under the watchful eye of King Kai (and the other Kais). After years of studying under his mother's tutelage, Gohan enters high school. Although he's awkward around his fellow students, he uses his incredible powers to fight crime in the nearby city as "Great Saiyaman." His feats of daring-do bring him into conflict with martial arts champion, crime fighter, and classmate Videl, the daughter of the obnoxious Mr. Satan. Their rivalry quickly turns into a maladroit mutual attraction. When a new tournament is announced, Gohan begins training himself and his seven-year-old brother Goten. Most of the season is devoted to the preparations for the tournament and its first rounds: Goku returns to Earth for one day to participate; Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin, Android 18, Gohan, Videl, Goten, and Trunks all enter, with Mr. Satan ranked as the defending champion. Most of the story is silly, even by the undemanding standards ofDragon Ball Z, and fans generally regard this season as an interlude between the "Cell" and "Majin Buu" sagas. The latter begins in the final episodes, as two over-muscled thugs in the service of the evil wizard Babidi steal energy from Gohan's Super-Saiyan form. They hope to release the horrible monster Buu, the creation of Babidi's father Bibidi. Ranked against them are the Z Fighters, the Supreme Kai and his attendant Kibit. The use of CGI blended well with documented portions of the script as well as individual dialog from the parcipitants involed. The history of The Big E is practically the entire history of the war against Japan, well done.I am looking forward to further adventures with Battle 360. 』 (History comes alive!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『More vivid and engaging than reading military history books written by scholars. This title is able to accurately depicts the great battles and tactics while keeping the view engaged with its great computer graphics and sound effects. The only downside is its pro-American points of view and for more balanced reporting, perhaps the Japanese soldiers who fought and survived the battle should be interviewed as well.』 (A New Look At A Old Veteran) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Battle 360 (season 1) revolves around the USS Enterprise in the fight against Japan in WWII. This aircraft carrier saw most for the war in the pacific by being there the major campaigns. She took major damage and delivered some too. In this series of programs I loved the genius of the computer graphics ...they are awesome. It makes you feel you are there. The producers did their homework by including details we the views may not know. They explain the ships, aircraft, guns, bombs and ammo. They give dimensions, weight and other critical information to put us right there. They intermingle the graphics with still pictures and 8mm film, to give you a real feeling of the experiences. I knew some about the USS Enterprise before viewing this series, but now I realise she was the war effort in the pacific for the US. I truly enjoy this series and I bet if you are a WWII buff, so will you. This is true world history so you can pass it down to your kids or grandkids too. We may never see such epic power on the seas again, but the USS Enterprise will always be known strength and resolve for the American spirit during WWII.』 (Amazing History) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This was a mesmerizing series. My respect for the men of the US navy in WWII (and frankly now) has grown beyond belief. The Battle of Leyte Gulf has to be the single most heroic series of events I have ever heard of. Don't miss this.』 (Two stars for effort, five for Enterprise and her crew) ![]() ![]() 『For the past few months I have noted the numerous accolades written on both The History Channel website and Amazon about this series. Yet in my circle, which is mostly middle aged historian and military types (with a few authors) I have heard only expressed disillusionment and heartfelt disappointment of a failed opportunity. Though it appears I am alone in my views in certain venues, I know for a fact through feedback that I am not. And it needs to be said. First and foremost, my own criticisms of The History Channel's (THC's) Battle360 and the DVD have nothing whatsoever to do with USS Enterprise (CV-6), her gallant crew, or the campaigns she was involved in. I repeat-I have only the utmost respect and admiration for this ship, her crew and the men who flew from her decks. It is for them (and their families) my heart is heavy. As a carrier buff with particular interest in USS Enterprise and Solomon Islands campaigns I was excited with the news of THC's Battle360 project on Enterprise. I have studied Guadalcanal and Enterprise for more than forty years. Rarely if ever have I longed for an extensive and thorough series on the carrier war in the Pacific. And what a subject it is. The Big E served in every major campaign in the Pacific Theater. And I myself have interviewed a dozen Ship's Company and Air Group personnel who had served aboard Enterprise during the desperate and savage campaigns off Guadalcanal. What an opportunity to finally portray the history of the Pacific Carrier War as told via the crew of the most decorated ship in naval history. However, within minutes of the first episode I sadly realized Battle360 was merely a lackluster hack production of poor graphics, distorted film techniques, and a badly written script strewn with historical and technical inaccuracies. Ultimately, Battle360 was a missed opportunity for a thorough and honest dissertation of the true history of Enterprise and The Pacific War. In fact, within fifteen to twenty minutes into the first segment I fielded no less than a dozen calls from friends and colleagues complaining of the abysmal production style, thus confirming my own observations. (Like me, they were all looking forward to this.) Moreover, the film was so distorted I found myself standing in the middle of my living room and raving in frustration: "Why on earth would they do that?" As the series progressed the callers-to a man-aborted the mission entirely, most having done so by the middle of episode two. Four of these viewers had the persistence to slog through to the end of episode three and then hit the silk all together. I alone was the only one to grind through the series in its entirety. I have since watched the series two more times. And it was never easier to do so. Admittedly, much of my criticism is based exclusively on my own production taste. The stock footage used of the Pacific War, carrier war, and USS Enterprise was shot initially in standard 4x5 full screen ratio format, which included a substantial amount of carrier footage filmed in beautiful Technicolor. Unfortunately, every single foot in the series was altered by the producers to fit the modern 16x9 widescreen ratio format. The result is a distorted "fish eye" or "squatty" effect that distorts the historical record. Though this technique is now typical, and perhaps understandable, it is hard to accept nonetheless when viewing actual film history of any given event. This problem could have been corrected simply by using a Japanese "rising sun" representation to one side of the screen with a partial configuration of the Stars and Stripes representation opposite. Or perhaps any ship silhouette would have done nicely, i.e. Enterprise to one side and a Japanese carrier (Chiyoda, for instance) to the other. (The Military Channel's "Air Combat" series, among others, used the original 4x3 stock frame placed upon a CGI aircraft skin to fill the 16x9 format, thus preventing any alteration of the original recording. It is both simplistic and brilliant.) Ultimately, it would have been better for THC's producers to zoom on the existing frame to reduce the stretched "fish eye" effect, even at the expense at a lost percentage of the overall frame than to have the film ruined and altered in its entirety. Regardless, the time and effort to reduce the fish eye effect is a mute point considering that literally ALL of the film footage used throughout the series-the most accurate (and best) record to reflect the actual VISUAL combat record of USS Enterprise-was utterly made worthless by what appears to be a rotating and hindering grid of the world (hence 360?). Lord only knows what it was. This single bells and whistles affect was the predominant view throughout the entire series. As near as I can determine this was done for the sake of superfluous eye candy only. In addition, it appears much of the actual film stock-unbelievably-was INTENTIONALLY altered with scratches and "wear lines" to provide a rustic or worn appearance. As a historian I feel such techniques that deliberately alter the actual film record borders on sacrilege and historical abomination. And it is becoming more and more Standard Operating Procedure with THC. Instead, the visual story of the Big E in Battle360 is based upon substandard computer graphics (now standard for THC); a MAJOR disappointment when one considers actual film footage is sometimes available for specific events. Indeed, nothing can duplicate the true film record. I am not nit-picking such inaccuracies as the lack of nose or tail fuses on a CGI produced 500-pounder as it strikes Yamato. But whether we may agree or disagree with the old adage "a picture is worth a thousand words," it is true. Ask any author, writer or journalist. Accordingly, when film records are available, either stills and motion picture footage it should be used. (I have viewed tons of carrier footage at the National Achieves Records Administration or Washington Navy Yard in Washington. It IS available.) And for the sake of the Enterprise crew-the subject demands it. Instead, THC chose to use poor CGI graphics while much of the history of Enterprise is available on film. Furthermore, the enemy bomb detonating near the island and the number 2 elevator, one of the most famous photographs and combat movie footage of the carrier war recorded, was never used. Not once. (You can view the entire scene on youtube [Air Attack on USS Enterprise].) Furthermore, some may believe the "old stock footage" is perhaps boring and the computer imagery was new and refreshing, especially for the younger audience who know nothing of the Second World War. This indicates the primary focus was not on history or Enterprise and her crew, but the younger generation. Indeed, any objective historian or student of history cannot classify the miles of incredible color footage of USS Franklin blowing to smithereens as boring. Instead THC diminished the sacrifice of the Franklin crew with VERY shoddy and second rate computer graphics. Incredible. But perhaps worst of all is the production's high degree of music video imagery, -i.e. fast action computer graphics coupled with altered stock footage, spliced together as millisecond film clips. The viewer is disconnected from the action, disoriented from the subject, and distracted from the storyline. While techniques such as this is perhaps accepted as entertainment by the younger music video generation, it is nauseating and overwhelming to the synapses. Neither the eye nor the ear can breathe. Indeed, at times the storyline seemed utter pandemonium; the media equivalent of trying to take a drink from a fire hose. Coincidently, this is without doubt the biggest complaint I've heard about the series from all quarters and age groups, including several Enterprise veterans, and second only to THC's "repetitive, repetitive, repetitive, repetitive" and monotonous post commercial break summaries. How many times did we see a CGI created unexploded bomb flying across the flight deck on March 19, 1945 strike? Over and over and over... Again, when one considers that ACTUAL film footage of this event is available and easily accessable (including several fasinating still photos of the bomb lying on the flight deck), the viewers instead were subjected to the historical interpretations of a (young?) computer graphics artist. This is simply unbelievable and would never have passed muster for the higher standards of the old History Channel. Ultimately, I believe all these techniques were done for dramatic affect only. They provide a measurement of THC's current lack of focus on true military history and its apparent obsession with video techniques. Instead, the actual true history of the Pacific War, and Enterprise in particular, when told in a straightforward manner is dramatic enough. Indeed, how we long for the days of spectacular, gut wrenching, historically accurate and cutting edge documentaries such as Thames Television's/producer Jeremy Isaac's multi-part series "World At War". These true professionals, dedicated students of history, knew that World War II combat (and film footage) was a spectacular event without the need of these rapid fire, visual eye candy, and noisy enhancements. (Ken Burns' influential masterpiece "The Civil War" changed the historical landscape of documentries, and he did so with still photos only.) The interviews with Enterprise veterans, though, were most welcome to see. Any story told by these brave veterans is an addition for the historical record and a joy to watch. Yet while many of the clips were moving several of the men were limited to single and mostly insignificant sound bites owing to the producer's evident focus on useless computer graphics, =more than actual eyewitness accounts=. If for this single reason alone, reflects negatively on THC's focus on CGI. (Or at minimum the interviews were botched.) And while Parshall, Martin Morgan and other historians were informative and accurate (especially Morgan), others come up way short. I say this with all due respect...but instead of modern Marine or Naval aviators explaining the dive characteristics of a SBD Dauntless dive bomber, or the particulars of a Zero fighter, World War II carrier operations, flight operations, combat history of Enterprise or battle campaigns, other Enterprise or Pacific War scholars of the caliber of Richard Franks and Barrett Tillman should (and could) have been used. Ultimately, the best choice to explain the dive-bombing techniques of a SBD bomber were the men flying the aircraft. And quite a few from the Enterprise Air Groups are still available. Lastly, the overall script was occasionally inaccurate, amateurish, and peppered with weak and flowery adjectives. At times it was downright embarrassing (the narrative would never have passed THC muster ten years ago). I doubt seriously that an actual military/carrier/Pacific Theater/WWII historian wrote the narrative or at minimum, proofed it before the series aired. There is no other explanation for the blatant errors throughout the series. Indeed, even a dedicated high school age student of history could easily have identified the inaccuracies with the script (I saw a 14 yr old tear the script apart before my own eyes). What we saw in Battle360 was not history but a vast experiment in video and CGI imagery. And it didn't work. I feel for the veterans of Enterprise and the thousands of heroes from the Pacific; those who fought from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay who had longed for this series. To them they are owed our best. And Enterprise/Battle360 definitely ain't it. This series should set the standard on how future documentaries should not be done.』 『It would be an understatement say thatBattle 360: Season 1has substantial appeal for World War II and naval history "enthusiasts." Considering the depth and thoroughness of the program and the sheer volume of data and information on hand--and with ten episodes, each more than 50 minutes long, there's very little that'snotcovered--it's likely that experts, fanatics, and obsessives will be well satisfied too. Using a combination of extensive computer-generated imagery (CGI), charts, graphics, statistics, file footage, photos, interviews with military men both past and present, and more, the program focuses on the Pacific Theater, where the United States and its allies battled Japan for the three and half years between Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and the end of the war in August 1945. At the center of virtually every battle during that span was the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. Launched in 1936, this Yorktown class vessel, also known as "a fighting city of steel" and "the Lucky E" (for its ability to avoid major catastrophe, at least for the most part), carried 96 planes, a huge amount of weaponry, and a crew whose average was an astonishing 19 years old. Proceeding chronologically, the series details such major conflicts as Midway (when the U.S. disabled no less than four Japanese carriers), Guadalcanal (when the Enterprise suffered serious damage while helping to thwart the enemy's plans to invade Australia), and Leyte Gulf ("the largest naval battle in the history of mankind"), finishing with the Japanese's last-gasp use of kamikaze pilots to attack the U.S. fleet. Much of this is genuinely gripping, as the episodes provide literally minute-by-minute accounts of every encounter and the size, speed, function, and firepower of every vessel and aircraft on both sides. But there are notable drawbacks as well, starting with the fact that for all of its detail, we see almost nothing of the Enterprise's interior or descriptions of daily life on board the enormous vessel. There's also the issue of how much CGI you can take; although there is some film footage (which may or may not be from the specific skirmish being described), the computer work, while generally pretty convincing, is pervasive and rather like a video game without a controller. What's more, each episode is kinetic almost to distraction, with a ceaseless flow of pounding music and sound effects, flashing graphics, and macho voice-over detailing the action. On the other hand, the reminiscences of those who were actually there are often very moving, not to mention a welcome surcease from the high-tech assault of the rest of the show. Bonus material is limited--a few additional scenes--but the steel box it all comes in is pretty cool.--Sam Graham』 『Studio: A&e Home Video Release Date: 12/16/2008』 『 Battle 360 - Season 1 (History Channel) (Steelbook) > 『 Battle 360 - Season 1 (History Channel) (Steelbook) > 『 Patton 360: The Complete Season 1 > 『 Patton 360: The Complete Season 1 > 『 Dogfights -The Complete Season 2 (History Channel) > 『 Dogfights -The Complete Season 2 (History Channel) > 『 World War II: 360 > 『 World War II: 360 > 『 Battleplan: The Complete Series > 『 Battleplan: The Complete Series > I wanted to buy It↑ タイトル『 Enchanted (Full Screen Edition) > 『 Enchanted (Full Screen Edition) > 『 Bee Movie (Full Screen Edition) > 『 Bee Movie (Full Screen Edition) > 『 Alvin and the Chipmunks > 『 Alvin and the Chipmunks > 『 The Water Horse - Legend of the Deep (Two-Disc Special Edition) > 『 The Water Horse - Legend of the Deep (Two-Disc Special Edition) > 『 Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (Widescreen Edition) > 『 Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (Widescreen Edition) > 『 National Treasure 2 - Book of Secrets (Widescreen) >

Great performances, great soundtrack... just a great film for adults, and children also.』 (not /quite/ so charming as one might like) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is a terrifically entertaining -- and clever -- film, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. But... If I might get serious... Leonard Bernstein once said that no composer consciously sets out to write "insincere" music. "Enchanted" is a conscious parody of Disney style and content that, at the same time, tries to remain sincere. But parody is inherently un-sincere. It's difficult to spoof something while treating it ingenuously. The two work against each other. This is most apparent in the film's best sequence -- the "Happy Little Working Song", which skewers "Whistle While You Work". The former brutally satirizes what is implicit in the latter -- dirty animals are cleaning up the place, including the dishes! Stephen Schwartz couldn't resist having Giselle acknowledge that they rats, roaches, and pigeons are "vermin", or having her sing: "We'll keep singing without fail, otherwise we'd spoil it, Hosing down the garbage pail and scrubbing up the toilet.", something the "real", naive Giselle would never sing. But this is a spoof, so why not? The sequence ends with a slap at "Disney cute" -- one of the pigeons eats one of the cockroaches. If we hadn't caught on that the film was a take-off, we know now. The problem is that there's no easy way to balance sincerity and spoof. It's not unlike making a comic horror film. James Whale did it -- once -- and no one else has duplicated it, not even Sam Raimi. "Enchanted"'s script and direction lean on the sincere side, without going overboard on the send-up. But the result isn't sincere enough to draw any strong emotion, while the parody lacks "edge" -- except in the scene mentioned. There's no way this obviously tongue-in-cheek tone could have been continued throughout the rest of the film without -- well, spoiling it. It would be unfair -- and insincere -- to ask Bill Kelly (the writer) and Kevin Lima (the director) to achieve what is virtually impossible. So I won't. Just enjoy "Enchanted" for what it is -- a Disney self-parody that's been a long time coming. Parents should be aware that the PG rating includes "mild innuendo" -- /sexual/ innuendo, both straight and gay. It will probably go right over most toddlers' heads, but don't be surprised if you get the odd question or two. ("Mommy, why is that man smiling at the prince?") This BD is typical of Disney, which is to say, gorgeous. Other than a game and some bloopers, there's nothing on the BD that wasn't on the DVD. Def. worth the $2.22 paid for it used-like new!』 (Disney proves that there's still some magic left in it) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Enchanted (directed by Kevin Lima) is a modern day fairytale that weaves comedy, song and dance and storybook fantasies together. The result is a delightful Disney movie that puts a spin on the classic `fairytale' story. The movie begins in Andalasia; an animated fairytale world full of merriment, song and adventure. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) is a young, Snow White-esque character that spends her days cleaning her house, singing with her animal friends and awaiting the day her prince charming will come and sweep her off of her feet. He arrives one day in the form of Prince Edward (James Marsden). They fall in love on a whim and plan to marry the next day. Edward's evil stepmother, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon), however, wants the kingdom for herself and, in an attempt to get rid of her, pushes Giselle into a portal that leads to our world. She lands in New York City where she meets Robert Phillip (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Giselle must then choose between both worlds and along the way discovers what true love really is. Amy Adams shines as the doe-eyed Giselle. Her innocence to the 'real' world she has tumbled into is both charming and humorous. She transitions from a naïve fairytale princess who is perfectly fine with having her prince rescue her to a woman who ends up saving the day. Adams shows us that Disney princesses are not merely along for the ride and that each and every one of them are independent souls capable of shaping their own destinies. Marsden keeps us laughing with his sheer obliviousness to almost everything that is going on around him. The fact that a chipmunk (voiced by Jeff Bennett and Kevin Lima) just may be smarter than the prince is equally humorous. The fairytale characters reactions to New York City are also laugh out loud. The scene where Prince Edwards has to slay the beast (a NYC bus!) is clever and helps the audience to understand how tough a transition it's going to be for the animated characters. The thousands of Disney references are also fun to look for. Like discovering that Robert's secretary voiced Ariel in The Little Mermaid. Enchanted is a light-hearted comedy that the entire family will enjoy. It masterfully strings together humor and songs that results in pure entertainment. By the end it will have even the most cynical person singing along. 』 『Life is idyllic in the fairytale world where conflict is minimal and breaking into song solves every problem, but what happens when a princess from the fairy world gets magically transported into the real world?Enchantedbegins in the animated fairytale world of Andalasia where Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) is destined to marry Prince Edward (James Marsden) and live happily ever after. Problem is, Edward's step-mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) doesn't want to give up the throne and will do anything to get Giselle out of Edward's life. Queen Narissa's solution is to push Giselle into a well that magically lands Giselle smack in the middle of the real world--the center of Time Square in New York City, to be exact. This launches the live-action portion of the film where Giselle immediately realizes that things are frighteningly different in this new world and that she is ill-prepared for the callous ways of the people who inhabit it. Giselle finds herself alone on a stormy night in the wrong end of town, but a chance encounter with Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his princess-loving daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) leads to a warm, safe place to spend the night and the beginnings of a complicated, yet compelling relationship. As Giselle begins to question the fairy-tale truths she's always inherently believed, Robert's outlook on life and love also begins to change significantly. Parallels to the classicDisneyfairytales,Cinderella,Snow WhiteandSleeping Beautyabound in the form of a King's and Queen's ball, small animals and rodents who clean house when called, the threat of poisoned apples, characters impulsively breaking into song, and the power of the kiss of true love and the absurd juxtaposition of fairytale idealism and stark reality is hilariously funny. Features music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz ofPocahontasandThe Hunchback of Notre Damefame,Wicked'sBroadway Elpheba Idina Menzel as Nancy, and even a brief appearance by former Princess voice talent Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas).Enchantedis one of the best, most entertainingDisneyfilms of the year. But, I would think if they got rid of the AA batteries, they could make it more thinner. It feels like a little bulky to be honest. - There is no optical lense. Its a digital CMOS sensor (like the ones you see on cell phones. The quality is therefore very poor. Very grainy images. - I am surprised they claim its HD quality because I see a lot of noise in the image I work in the cell phone industry and I know what it takes to make these things. The quality of video is equal or worser than what you would get for example on the iPhone 3GS, which now captures video as well. In the next few months, you will see most phones being able to that capture video and also HD quality video. The Motorola Droid is one. For the $150 price tag, this product is not worth it. Get your next smart phone and it will have the same video quality as this product. That way yuo don't have to carry two devices, just carry your phone and it shuold be good enough. I picked up this DVD player locally and brought the first one back, because something inside was moving as I shifted the DVD player - sounded like loose solder across the bottom of the player. The second one was OK. I purchased this DVD player, because of the following useful options: 1. Multi-disc resume from a stopped position (6) 2. Multiple sound-fields through the TV, which transfers through to my Sherwood stereo amplifier, two small bookshelf speakers and an unpowered sub. The sound-fields add punch to movie and TV soundtracks. 3. Multiple picture modes (Dynamic, Cinema, etc), including a custom mode, which I can manually adjust the picture in greater detail. This works great for some of the TV series on DVD with grain. 4. Does not up-convert - This is what I wanted - a basic DVD player, with 480P progressive output. 5. The remote will control my TV power; volume; and TV input (video 1, component 1, etc) While the picture and sound are very good, my Panasonic player from 2003 connected to my 50 inch Panasonic TV seems better. I think this may be attributed to the difference in the TVs, the video source and better cables. The Sony DVD player video is crystal clear for DVDs, like Finding Nemo (Most are), but needs some tweaking for TV series, even new ones that are in widescreen. I have a better component cable connected now, but will be upgrading to see if there is a difference. The menu is fairly simple and easy to use, once the operating instructions are reviewed. I can navigate through multiple options while the movie is playing, but can not change the TV Set UP - Custom Menu for various settings, such as output from 16x9 to 4x3 (Full or Normal) while watching a movie- I have to stop the movie. Luckily, my Sony TV has the option to switch via one button on the remote from normal to full to wide. Unfortunately, the zoom is limited to 2x or 4x, without multiple screen sizes, nor a manual adjustment. The 2x will zoom up the older wide screen movies that are in the older narrow format, like Nixon. Lastly, I was hoping this DVD player would play damaged DVDs that I have. I have a Tombstone special edition DVD that has had problems on other players (Panasonic, Toshiba, Sanyo, etc), where it played half way and froze, pixilated after starting, skipped, etc. On the Sony DVD player it loaded, played the initial generic warning message featured on the video, but would not even jump to the menu. Overall, this player is a keeper for my secondary TV, but I will keep looking for another back-up for my 2003 Panasonic as my primary player. 』 (Just what I wanted) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『we got this because our other, more expensive, dvd player didn't play certain undamaged and damaged discs. This one plays it all -- the picture quality is just a little less crystal clear than our more expensive one but good enough.』 (A DVD player by any other name is... a perfect CD player!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『At first it was hard adjusting to the limited means of playing my old LPs, especially with belts on turntables wearing out, styli going bad, etc. But equally discouraging was the discovery that, with the exception of those cheapo disc-sized players sold at the drugstore for twenty bucks (made by GPX, Emerson, Coby, J-Win, etc., and guaranteed to last a week or two), the major companies--Sony, Panasonic, etc.--had given up on CDs as a medium altogether (young people rarely buy CDs anymore). So I was beginning to despair of finding something other than my computer drive for playing CDs. Then the idea came to me (slow and late, as usual). Why not look for an "ordinary" DVD player, if one still exists (it won't be long before even the "upconverting" models are history). This Sony is less expensive than the disc-sized portable players I had once used--and it's no more than the size and weight of 2-3 of those little frisbees. Incredibly compact, yet coming with an ample-sized remote and features like component cable connections (in addition to composite ones), compensation for different formats (4:3 vs. 16:9, video vs. movie), even a convenient timer button for determining the time used and remaining on an individual track or the entire disc.) I don't plan to use it with a monitor, though its size and weight would make it the machine of choice for travel--whether on a vacation or to the old tube set in the basement. It'll play CDs, MP3 discs, DVDs, and practically anything else you throw at it, and it's just passed a couple of road tests by playing slightly damaged CDs that had jammed my car's player. It's hard to square something like this Sony with the large and expensive DVD players that first began appearing just 6-7 years ago. It's a black, sleek sliver of a thing, but it performs with the best of them (perhaps even including some upconverting models). Unless you plan to upload all of your CDs as compressed files stored in your computer (I know someone who did so but can't stop kicking himself now), this item at under 40 Prime may be just the ticket. [Alas! I must point out a rather serious flaw: There appears to be no way to make the read-out on the face of the machine display track numbers. Admittedly, not a serious problem for many listeners, perhaps even of no consequence. But as I was attempting to review a new Artie Shaw reissue with 25 tracks on a single disc, over half the numbers unfamiliar tunes, I confess I felt no small amount of irritation at having to identify tracks by time lengths.]』 (good for what it is) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is a nice, inexpensive DVD player.
