(beware!! poorly manufactured....)

『PROS: Britta lost its certification for lead filtering since the requirements for lead by the NSF changed. I really liked the idea that the PUR filter filters out a much larger list of contaminants as compared with the Britta which only filters out three substances, LEAD not being one of them.(Note: PUR gets lead certification from another company, not NSF......stange)

CONS: filters very slowly, poor manufacturing, there are small,white, hair like pieces on around this filter, some I could wipe off with my finger, I'm not sure what they are, but didn't want my kids ingesting it. Also, there was some loose plastic and the filter itself looks scratched in the light. This made me worry about the integrity of the unit as a whole and I phoned PUR (Procter and Gamble) and they were very helpful and would look into the problem.

I landed up getting a refund from them, but I would really like to see a well manufactured product that filters a broad range of substances......... ..???????

『This is a great album for any Miley Cyrus fan! It's one of the things she does best: singing! I've been a Miley fan since she first stepped into the spotlight! I love her and personally think she can do no wrong. But if you're not a Miley fan (shame on you ;)) then you probably won't like this CD. However, I think it's a great song and another great hit for Miley!!!』

Miley needs to focus on using her talents in a positive way and remember that being positive doesn't limit her to be bubblegum pop, but neither does she need to compete with Brittney Spears for trashiest teen act.』

(I'm actually not one to buy Christmas cds...I made the exception here.)

『Although I adore Christmas music, there are few cds that have moved me enough to purchase them simply because there is such a variety on the radio that I just tend to keep that going around the holidays.

After hearing this cd at a friend's house, however, I made the exception. There is something about Faith Hill's amazing voice coupled with such moving songs that make this one you just won't grow tired of, in my opinion. Better yet, it bridges the age gaps of who will enjoy hearing it. My 6 year old niece loved it as much as my "senior parents" and as much as my 27 year old friend who bought it does too! It's just such a strong mix of music and vocals.

That said, our family has a personal joke that says as much about Faith Hill's personal beauty aside from her musical beauty. My father owns a restaurant at a resort location. He was working the front one day when someone quite striking came in and, after her group had eaten and she came up to pay her bill, he made some comment along the lines of "I'm sure you get told often how strikingly beautiful you are. You could be on t.v." She simply smiled and said "thank you" as she paid her check. As she left the employees said "Did you know that was Faith Hill?" Which was confirmed in the paper the next day...
...He did not... (and that alone cracks me up since he has several of her c.d.s)

To this day we joke that dad tried to hit on Faith Hill without realizing it. However, I commend her charm in saying "thank you", paying her bill, and not saying "do you know who I am?" or "I am on t.v. all the time! I'm Faith Hill!" It's made me like her even more since that happened. Because they also get plenty that do say exactly who they are at bill paying time in there! :-)

But that still does not bias my opinion musically...there is no bias needed. Faith Hill hits the mark on great music on this one... How she sings, afterall, has little to do with how she acts. Fortunately, both are sweet.』

(superb Christmas music from Faith Hill)

『Faith Hill is a very special songbird; when she sings her voice is as clear as a bell and her sophisticated phrasing enhances her performance. This album is no exception; and it's a fine debut Christmas album from Faith at that! Christmastime music is always wonderful to hear; I can never truly get my fill of it. Indeed, it's some of the best music we hear all year--it's usually catchy and memorable with a message so sweet that it makes you feel all warm inside. The traditional carols and songs on this album have big band style arrangements that work wonders for them, too. The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and I love that artwork, too.

The CD begins with Faith Hill performing the title track; the backup choir is remarkably impressive--not that Faith needed it but they really sound wonderful anyway. Faith handles complex tempo and key changes like the chanteuse she truly is; and that's grand. "What Child Is This?" has Faith squarely front and center; and that's quite all right by me! The arrangement has a few key modulations to let Faith put her own stamp on this classic Christmas ballad; and it all holds its own very well. In addition, "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" is lively and charming at once. The jazzy arrangement fits in perfectly with Faith's vocals; the brass and percussion help to enhance the number quite a bit. Faith never lets go of a superfluous note; and I'm truly impressed.

"Little Drummer Boy" is quite well done; Faith sings this passionately with all her heart and soul. The male backup sounds terrific although they never even try to steal the show away from Faith; she's right in the spotlight and I love it. "O Come, All Ye Faithful" has always been one of my favorite holiday songs; Faith does great justice to this ballad with her excellent diction and her sensitive treatment of this number. "O Come, All Ye Faithful" is easily a major highlight of this album; it's very easy on the ear, too. "Holly Jolly Christmas" is a tune I first heard sung by Burl Ives; I would like to think that he would have loved Faith's rendition of this amazing song!

"Away in a Manger" has a wonderful arrangement and Faith performs this faultlessly; and listen for Faith to outdo even herself on "O Holy Night" "O Holy Night" is another passionate song that Faith delivers beautifully; she truly delves deep into "O Holy Night" to bring out all the subtle nuances of the lyrics as she performs this to perfection--and beyond! "Winter Wonderland" is also very pretty; the strings are used to great advantage and so is that brass! "Silent Night, Holy Night" is exceptionally stunning when Faith sings this; it showcases Faith singing at her usual very best. The CD ends strong with a much, much newer song entitled "A Baby Changes Everything;" this last song is very poignant and it moves me greatly.

Faith Hill is always wonderful to hear; and on this holiday CD she really makes these songs shine bright! I highly recommend this for her fans and people who like traditional holiday music including Christmas carols. In addition, people who like the big band sound applied to established holiday music will cherish this CD forever.』

Faith offers new twist to old standards and her version of "Little Drummer Boy" (the best cover on this album) is touching, inspiring, and soulful. Her new song "A Baby Changes Everything" is so special because she starts the song by singing about a teenager girl and its not until the end of the song when you realize she is talking about Mary (Jesus's mother). Everytime I hear the song, it brings tears to my eyes...this song is an instant classic!! The only complaint I have against this album is Faith's classic "Where Are You Christmas?" is missing.

I don't know if this album will stand the test of time, but I do know this album continues Faith's musical journey with wonderful results. As a result of this Christmas cd, I can't wait for her next album (for 2009) and the long-waited gospel album!』

『This is one of the funniest movies that has ever been made. The who's who of Hollywood during this time era is extrodinary and they are all in this movie. The movie came in excellent condition and arrived right on time. If you want to laugh your fanny off with anyone this is the movie to watch. Suiteable for even the most grumpiest old farts.........』

(One Of A Kind)

『There are three versions of It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. A laser disc version in which they "attempted" to restore the original cut footage from the road show release. However, because over the years they treated the cut footage as garbage, the color now looks like garbage. So you have the garbage footage inter-cut with the current release print they're using.

Finally, they came out with a DVD version in 2001. That version had the bonus material that that the laser disc had, only they put it on the flip side of the main movie instead of a second disc (easier to damage). Although the picture quality is okay when compared to laser disc and VHS, it appears to be from the same master and leaves much to be desired when viewed on today's HD televisions. Another problem I've noticed with many MGM DVDs, especially those of UA releases, is that they seem to use any old release print to master their DVDs of older films from. The result is that you see dirt and scratches in the film. One particular MGM/UA DVD that was originally in Cinerama, The Hallelujah Trail, looks like they dragged the film on the floor first. To make matters worse, it was a letterboxed NON-ANAMORPHIC version. When compared to an anamorphic or as some manufacturers call it, "Enhanced for 16:9 televisions" DVD, the anamorphic DVDs have MUCH better resolution than plain letterboxed DVDs. The mystery is that it cost no more to make the anamorphic DVD master, so you have to wonder what they're thinking. While I don't know what they're thinking, I can tell you what the end result has been for me. Just to name two DVDs off hand (not MGM/UA). I bought Field Of Dreams and To Kill A Mockingbird (Universal) when they came out. Both turned out to be letterboxed non-anamorphic. The quality of Mockingbird was pretty poor. Then, a year or two later both were "released" again, however, this time they were anamorphic. And while Mockingbird still wasn't great, it was MUCH better than the original. I think I have at least 12 movies that I had to purchase twice because of this, so I wonder if it's intentional on their part.

The current DVD release is a one sided version that doesn't have the bonus material that the original 2-sided DVD release had. The only thing that was increased is the price. Just like other films that are true classics, Mad World deserves to be restored (assuming that what was used for the current release are really the best elements currently available) just like what was done for Lawerance Of Arabia, My Fair Lady, etc. and released on Blu-ray.

As for the movie itself, let me just say what the original advertising said: "Anyone who's ever been funny is in it", and I will add to it by saying and then some. This is the type of picture that should really be watched in a theatre that is full on a Saturday night. The only other caveat is that it's even funnier if you are familiar with some of the comediennes in the film. That is because somehow, the genius of Stanley Kramer has created a link between what these comediennes were famous for and their roles and appearances in the plot.

The bottom line is that this is one film that's NOT TO BE MISSED.』

『I rememeber watching this for the first time when I was 8 years old. The plot is hilarious, but the problem is the movie is too long. I found this to be non-stop slapstick comedy something not done too often these days. Some were memorable like when Jim Backus flies Mickey Rooney, and Buddy Hackett in a private plane Backus dies, and Hackett and Rooney are left to fly the plane on thier own. Then the annoying part of the movie was with the loud-mouthed opinionated shrew who harasses poor Johnathan Winters. I guess that's the one reason why I don't watch the movie anymore, and that's because of henpecking. I hate henpecking, and when Winters stands up for himself she sicks her muscle-bound son named Sonny on him, and for about a half hour throughout the movie Sonny is driving like a man possessed, and all this for a million dollars. I have to ask all the characters in the end "Was It Worth It?" I don't feel that it was worth the money spent on the making of this flick, but it's still a classic compared to a couple of watered down films like "Scavenger Hunt", and "Million Dollar Mystery". I just don't get the movie at all, but I guess money isn't really all that it's cracked up to be with me. I know we need it to survive, but I also know the minute we get something like a million dollars we want more, and in the quest to get it they lose it all, and all end up in the hospital. When I was 8 I would've found this to be funny, but now I feel nothing, but pity.』
『Stanley Kramer's sprawling 1963 comedy about a search for buried treasure by at least a dozen people--all played by well-known entertainers of their day--is the kind of mass comedy that Hollywood hasn't made in many years. (Another example from around the same time is Blake Edwards'sThe Great Race.) After a number of strangers (including Milton Berle, Jonathan Winters, Sid Caesar, Phil Silvers, and others) witness a dying stranger (Jimmy Durante) identify the location of hidden money, a conflict-ridden hunt begins, watched over carefully by a suspicious cop (Spencer Tracy). The ensuing two and a half hours of mayhem has its ups and downs--some bits and performers are certainly funnier than others. 『I liked it! Holli IS the cutest thing. It opens another world..one where you need to watch your step. Yeah, some of the questions could be answered. What picked Pitt to be pulled into Cool World? What became of Holli? Do Lonette and Pitt have 2-d kids now? The music PLAY WITH ME and Cool world by Bowie are just great! And the rabbit was too funny..BUT I WON! See it!』

『I came across this little jewel while searching for animated movies. It was on cable once and had a fine impression on me. Somewhere between children and adult it stimulates a fantasy where reality is not all what it seems. Somewhere in an alternative universe there exist a race of perverse cartoons, the ultimate 'toon being Holli Would (Kim Basinger). Gabriel Byrne, a cartoonist and convict serving time in our reality thinks he has created 'Cool World'. And Holli is the woman of his dreams in both worlds. Also, Brad Pitt turns up as the local cop in an unbelievably riotous spin through this cartoon land. The animation and live action blends favorably to a fantasy right on the edge. With it is an electronica soundtrack with a driving beat throughout. Make this a trip to the other side of our life.』

『I admit it this movie may not have done too well for alot of people and it may have alot of cristisisms but on the other hand it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I thought they could have added a much better storyline to this movie because it was pretty flat and this whole cool world place just comes out of nowhere created by jack deebs (gabriel byrnes) and man these cartoon characters he created are so creepy like hollie (Kim Basinger) is just a sex crazed cartoon character who wants to get laid with jack who created her and to me that was pretty messed up. And brad pitt plays the CW cop who got sucked into the cool world out of nowhere after his mother died from a motorcycle accident. his character was pretty much a cocky toughguy cop and a married man to a cartoon wife and makes sure that jack doesn't lose his virginity to a cartoon character since it's against the law in cool world.

Bottom line this movie was alright but it has a pretty messed up storyline and it smacked a 1 hour rush job making this movie and I don't know what on earth the director was smoking when he created this movie.

Parents please be advised this movie is definently not for children and it's not another great rodger rabbit movie either.』

(Grimmace is large and in Charge!!!!)

『Grimmace steals the show in this 5* film. The only bad thing about this movie was it tended to focus on Hamburglar a little to much for my liking. This brings me back to about a year ago when the Nook and J-Abs threw a kickin McDonalds party. Nook dressed up as Ronald himself, J-Abs was Grimmace and former Notre Dame QB Ron Powlus was Hamburglar. Needless to say Ronald and Grimmace stole the show which is the truf unlike this video where the Burglar tried to steal the show. When the party got crunk up to a respectable level and it was Some Kind of Wonderful crunk the ladies were all over Nook and J-Abs when Powlus showed up ad the Burglar. He came in trying to Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo all over the pace and the ladies were disgusted. What was worse was when he struck the heisman pose. Whatever! Nook ripped off his costume gave him a Chad May poke in the eye and kicked him in the groin. Powlus left crying as everyone laughed at him. Then the party was back off da hook once again. We are the McDonalds brew crew you are the Jack in the Box big clown head who has only sold 36 burgers vs our trillions and trillions. Deal with that super size style!』

『I bought one of these from Amazon last Christmas for my wife. It is incredibly easy to use, both the foil opener and the corkscrew. We consistently get compliments for it, and at least 6 friends and family members have purchased this exact model after seeing it work at our house. I FULLY recommend this to anyone: the charge lasts a long time, its far quieter than I expected, and is quick and easy to use. Takes about 6 seconds to take the cork off (by simply holding one direction of the button), and about the same to remove the cork from the opener (by holding the other). I plan on purchasing at least 2 more this year to give as gifts.

The only reason someone should buy an automatic opener other than this one is if you buy one of the expensive vacuum removers, if you don't want to poke the corkscrew hole in the cork (for hobbies/re-use/etc). Unless you have that specific need, buy this opener.
After re-reading this part, I should note that this opener doesn't break the cork into pieces or anything, it just inserts the corkscrew into one end of the cork in order to pull it out. It worked so smoothly and I was so shocked, that I immediately dug through a drawer until I found my Pampered Chef wine bottle opener and promptly threw it in the garbage. My parents love theirs too. Unlike us, they don't keep it on the charger, but they can go several months between charges. (They're probably more like every-other-week wine drinkers.)
