When I read the directions all my problems went away. One poster even stated that it has no on and off switch, NOT TRUE. It turns out that they drain the battery quickly and there's no off switch. Lesson learned, take the batteries out next time. The base unit and receiver lose contact all the time and have to both be reset. The probes on 2 of the 3 I use stopped functioning after a few uses. They were worth what I paid for the $9.99 ones. (Extremely Pleased) 『I live in SW Kansas where we get colloidally fine dust and plagues of different bugs in the bug season which is from last spring frost to first fall frost. The dust blows in when the wind blows which is quite a lot. The bugs fly, crawl, and stink. This summer's selection was the usual millers and an exciting new kind--black stink beetles. The millers are around 1 1/4 long and follow the light into the house. The black stink beetles covered the house and crawled in any crevice they could find including muscling in under and around the doors. I can usually keep the crawlies in containment on my main floor, but don't do such a good job on the basement level. Nothin' much goes on down there and I'm not there but a couple of times a month. The dead bugs make quite an unappealing chore to vacuum up--all 1600 sq. ft of them. A regular vacuum doesn't work so well because well-meaning idiots that come to work in there occassionally will vacuum up smidgin's of water which makes the bugs and dust mold in the vac. This too is unappealing to find. So, I was looking for something light weight, that could handle dust and bugs, that didn't need a cord. On a trip to big town I found in the display the Hoover Platinum stick vac. It looked easy, had only one filter, the dust collector cup was easy to see and the brush head was an added bonus. Mine cost 179.00. I took it home just in time for my husband to leave boot turds on the carpet and kitchen floor. I'd just vacuumed. After he left, I assembled the Vac stick and decided to try it out on the boot turds. For those living in the clouds, a boot turd is what is left from shoewear that picks up a bit of mud or other debris and deposits it on the interior floor of a home. An annoyance much like what a puppy or cat can leave behind and a similar consistency range. Wow! This stick vac is fantastic! I zoomed through the kitchen, around his kitchen chair, raced down the back hall. I love this thing. It is perfect for quick fixes. It would be crazy to buy it for in depth cleaning unless a person lives on a postage stamp, but for an electric broom it can't be beat. This morning the beloved packaged up some beans to send to some friends. Of course there were bean spilled. After he left, I had the kitchen and dining area and back hall 'picked up' within less than two minutes. It takes longer than that to wind and unwind the cord on my regular vac. I have a robovac too. He's too small to handle beans and boot turds. But does a wonderful job behind and under things. I'm buying another Hoover stick vac for the basement. This one isn't leaving the upstairs. For those who've had a bit of trouble with the battery--it has a two year warrantee--send the sucker back! and get a new one! It is worth every effort.』

(Best Cordless Stick Vacuum) 『We just had new carpeting and flooring installed throughout our home. I needed a small, lightweight stick vacuum for the hard floors, as I have a powerful standard upright for the carpeting. I was really "on-the-fence" about purchasing this Hoover Platinum Linx vacuum because of some of the unfavorable reviews I had read, i.e. battery constantly needs recharging, short run time, poor suction, etc.. I went to the Hoover website and was impressed with the 6-year warranty on this vacuum and 2-year warranty on the lithium battery and charger. Also, Hoover's brand reputation long withstanding. I've owned Hoover products and have never had problems with them other than needing to get rid of them due to the age of the equipment. They exceeded their usual lifespan by many years. The quick broom that I just got rid of was 35 years old! It still worked, but the bags were discontinued.
Customer reviews to me are just opinions, and while I do think they can be very helpful, sometimes I think many of the problems reported are simply a matter of not reading the manual or not using the equipment for what it was intended. So, with this in mind, I took a chance and purchased it from Amazon, who had the best price on the internet or of any local big box store.
Amazon delivered in two days (love it!), and it took only a few minutes to read the manual and set the battery to charge. It says that the battery takes approx. 3 hours to charge, but I've found that it's much quicker than that; usually 1-1/2 to 2 hours. When the battery was charged, I immediately vacuumed our hard floors - large eat-in kitchen, laundry room, foyer, and bathrooms and still had battery power left. It was amazing what the "wind tunnel" dirt cup picked up. It's very easy to empty, no bags to buy or mess with. I popped the battery back on the charger so it's always ready to go, and when it shows fully charged, I put it on the vacuum. Very easy. The suction is excellent. It even picks up tiny crumbs or pieces of lint right up against the baseboards. I especially like that the brush roller is able to be turned on and off; off for hard floors and on for carpets. I turned the brush rollers on for some area rugs and it did a great job on them too. I wouldn't hesitate to use this stick vacuum for a quick carpet touch up, but I would definitely not use this as the primary vacuum for carpeting. It's not meant for that. I also like how easily this vacuum maneuvers so you can get close to furniture legs, cabinets, etc..
I've had this vacuum for almost three weeks now and I honestly can't say one negative thing about it. I'm so glad I bought it. It's very attractive, easy to use (no cords), powerful suction, well-designed, lightweight, good warranty, and Hoover quality. What more could you ask for? 』

I have watched this movie MANY times now and some parts really make NO sense. It is as though the writers gave up in some areas and said, "Well, it's fantasy, it doesn't have to make sense!" I mean, what's with the bat and ball at bedtime? Why is a rabbit leaving him a note? Why does it matter if Cous is allergic to grass? Thomas falls off the mountain and sinks into the ground magically? They figure out the "riddle" that made no sense and seriously, no one in their right mind would be able to get..... there are so many unanswered questions!!
I wanted to take away 2 stars for the weird story line and plot points that make less than no sense, but seriously, my kid LOVES it and isn't that the point? I keep reminding myself that 80% of the movie makes sense and has great morals and that the other 20% has to be doing something for his imagination.
So, I took away 1 star for the weak story and for Peter Fonda's AWFUL acting ("Oh Lily, I'm so glad to see you" *deadpan face*) otherwise, it is worth it. The songs are cute and my kid adores it.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great Documentary, Maybe of all Time!) 『A great documentary of the Inuit or Eskimo people as they were called by Robert Flaherty. He actually had to make it twice. The film used then was highly flammable and caught fire as he was editing it while smoking. People smoked anywhere they wanted in the 20s too! Flaherty suffered burns in many parts of his body and had to recover before going back north. He had made copious notes of his previous film and was able to recreate most scenes again. Not your typical documentary now, but was at this time. Filmmakers were quite aware of having to make the film entertaining and interesting to watch. Not unlike today! The 20s was the heyday of anthropology and of documentary film so they went together nicely. Flaherty has made a spine-tingling film where the cold can be felt as well as seen. The lives of Nanook and his people is interesting and stunning.』
(A flawed, but invaluable film.) 『If you have any interest in documentary filmmaking, indigenous film, ethnography, or a related field, you should absolutely see 'Nanook.' Having said that, I'm always shocked at how little context the average viewer has before they take this film in. Sure, maybe a first viewing of a film that sets so many precedents should be undertaken unprejudiced, but any meaningful understanding of this film can only take shape with some basic knowledge of the debates and discourses that surround it.
The movie, as I'm sure many reviewers before me have explained, is ostensibly an ethnographic document of an Inuit hunter named Nanook's struggle to survive with his family in the area around Hudson Bay. The film documents a number of activities that, depending on your level of cynicism, either represent the Inuit lifestyle at a particular period in time, or are selected for their potential novelty to members of the film's eventual audience.
Either before or after your first viewing of the film, know this: the wildly inaccurate intertitles aren't the most misleading thing about this film. Rather than be exhaustive about the film's inaccuracies, I'll let you seek out your own information. I will mention that by the time Flaherty was making this film, Inuit hunters were using rifles. Also, Nanook's family aren't exactly his family. They're really just the most photogenic Inuit that Flaherty could find to fill the roles.
Flaherty argued that he was trying to document a set of Inuit cultural practices that were in danger of slipping into the ether. Whether this is entirely sincere or not, who knows. But beyond deciding whether or not you like the movie (which is a more basic and personal consideration), you need to know this so you can try to understand what Flaherty's getting at here and see the cinematic world he presents in its own, highly specialized and hybrid context.
The film itself is a delightful watch. It continues to be entertaining, regardless of whether or not you're into silent film. Criterion's print looks fantastic and the music they've put it to is appropriate.
That's all bonus, though, because the movie will always be the foundation upon which so much important work was built, so as soon as you know it exists and is relevant to your interest, you should watch it. Just be sure to dip into the discourse surrounding it at some point during the window of time when the film is occupying your thoughts. You'll see the film and its many, diverse successors more clearly for having done so.』

The warm air really blasts out of the stove when on high, so this unit has been very useful for heating. I liked the look of burning coals better than logs which is why I chose this unit, and that was right on--they are very realistic. The only negative is the bright, lighted background is not realistic at all. It is overly bright, and the arch of light is very defined, and there are strips of paper blowing in the light that look halloweeny. If I could find in a lower watt bulb, that may help to reduce the brightness and definition. Ultimately, no electric stove will fool anyone looking closely, so this one is as real looking as any and the heating power is second to none.

(Efficient, well made) 『You can spend $180 and buy a heater that provides more output, but as an all around appliance this is as good as I've seen for the following reasons:
1) The heat is sufficient to take the chill off an early morning living room where the outside temps are in the low 40's. 2) The fan noise at maximum is barely noticeable from a few feet away. 3) The unit is very well made of well formed heavy gauge sheet metal (steel) for everything accept the top, glass door and some internal parts. It looks like a small wood/coal stove or maybe even more like a pellet stove. 4) It's easily portable moving from room to room if needed (no bathrooms, or use outdoors). 5) The flame/burning coal effect is very realistic.... much more so than the more common log sets seen in competing units. 6) It looks like a "real" heating appliance rather than some piece of cosmetic junk that passes for "consumer goods" these days.
Obviously, I'm pleased with the unit. It doesn't replace a forced air unit, but for a portable heater it more than met my expectations.』

Best part is the soothing flame effect. Up close you can tell it's fake, but a few feet away and the optical illusion is spectacular. It's simple, but well executed. The burnt "arch" that you see in the photo is printed on the back panel where the flames are... and if you've ever seen a real airtight woodstove, like in Grandpa's woodshop, circa 1945, they all have that burn pattern on the glass. This trick makes the front glass look kind of frosty and thick and scorched... like the hot flames are being held in a vacuum sealed environment.
Just thought I'd give a thumbs up to a simple, yet brilliant, optical illusion. A great little heater so far.

I turned two of them on this weekend (overnight temps in high 30's/low 40's...daytime temps in mid to low 60's). I had 2 running (my house is insulated) and it actually made the house quite warm. This is a very well made and tight documentary that will flood your visual senses with REAL color footage mainly focusing on Hitler. This film is less than 90 minutes but I never felt rushed and was emotionally involved from beginning to end.
The film contains two types of narration - the standard type which describes historical events and also readings by actors of diaries and notes written by the German people involved in the war. The readings by actors was a little "weak" in my opinion and took a little away from the film.
Keep in mind that this short film is not a complete look at WW2, but what is does do, it does very well. There are some scenes like those shown in the ghettos of Warsaw that hit me hard and had a lasting impact.

Well, the German people were, anyway. Hitler always seemed to be too aware of his position as the stern, implacable warlord to loosen up whenever he even suspected a camera was focused on him. To see Der Fuehrer smile, laugh or appear even moderately light-hearted, you have to watch for the moment when he happens to be looking partially away from the camera, to have momentarily forgotten its presence. There is one scene where he chats briefly with a group of German children, giving one pretty little blonde girl a hug. But it's shot from a short distance and his face is partially hidden. I've seen still photos, candid ones, of Adolf Hitler interacting with children, who seem to be relaxed and happy in his presence. Look at those photos, and read reminiscences of people who were close to Hitler, and you'll find out, probably to your amazement, that yes, the "most evil man in history" was fond of children. "Hitler In Colour" does give us a much more "human" look at the German people of the Third Reich era, showing them at work and play (although footage of smiling children giving the Nazi salute are admittedly unsettling.) Normal human interactions and the underlying evil of the Nazi era often were overlaid, one on the other. This DVD is very illuminating for those who have until now only seen fading black and white movies of the Hitler era. My only possible negative is that I've once accidentally pushed too hard on the plastic beard trimmer, and had it decrease the setting by a couple notches (from a five down to a three). No harm done, but I was more careful with how I held it after that. The normal head works very well for trimming the length of the hair on my upper lip, and I have occasionally switched to the smaller one for more precise trimming. It also works very well on my neck, shaping my neckbeard pretty well. A few tugs of the hair, but nothing painful. I honestly doubt I'll ever use the other extensions, it works great as a beard trimmer for me and that's all I really need it for.』

I've noticed complaints about the belt breaking frequently on the Eureka 4870. I think that is due in large part to the manual operation of the height adjustment.
The height should be adjusted to the highest level that actually works on the carpet being vacuumed. If it is adjusted too low, the resistance from the carpet versus the powerful motor on the 4870 stresses the belt too much and it breaks.
I've used the same belt on my 4870 for well over two years and it seems to be as good as new. I have a fairly thick carpet and adjust the height to the next to the highest position for most of the carpeted areas of the house. We have some rugs and other carpeted areas where I need to drop the height down, but usually the third level down from the highest works well on those. Properly adjusted the 4870 cleans very well, fluffs up the carpet, and extends the belt life.

(Doesn't play nice with PS3 or PSP) 『I bought the Belkin N+ router in July, and less than 4 months later, I have already replaced it with a DLink 655. The Belkin was relatively easy to install, but the router setup screen isn't as intuitive as other brands'. The range and speed were fine as well.
The main issue I had was the connection of my Playstation 3 and my PSP to the router. I was never able to get UPnP to actually work on the Belkin, which hurt my ability to stream data to my systems. The Belkin N+ router also did not work with Remote Play (using the PSP to control the PS3). Unless I disabled "Remote Turn-On" on the PS3, the router would randomly turn on my PS3 without any prompting by me. Updating the firmware did not fix this issue. (And updating the firmware itself had problems. The modem would say that updated firmware was available, but when it went to install it, it would be for a different router.) The biggest disappointment with the router was the inability to play games online consistently. I would receive many connection errors, even when trying various setups (DMZ on/off, port forwarding on/off, etc.).
Luckily, I was able to exchange this Belkin N+ Router for the DLink 655, and I have had zero problems. The keyboard is more comfortable than a typical stock keyboard, and the mouse feels very natural. Every once in a while the keyboard will need to catch up a few keystrokes, but at ~100 wpm I almost expect to see the limitations of wireless, no matter how seldom they're noticeable. Also, the SetPoint program seems to think that the mouse's battery is low, even though I've had the thing for about a month, and the battery life on the mouse is supposed to be 6 months... Sure, a couple nit-picky points showing that it's not perfect and they're the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, but it's still a solid 4 or 4.5, if partial stars were possible. Yes, the keyboard is a tad larger than my old one and the mouse is a little heavier. Neither fact is a problem for me. Both pieces worked right out of the box. No need to download the software disc that came with it. Just plugged in the receiver, removed the plastic tabs from the battery compartments and go. The layout of the keyboard is impressive and is very easy to get used to. The mouse feels solid and has a quality feel to it. The features have pretty much been stated in other reviews so I'll keep this short. I have always had confidence in Logitech products and this one doesn't disappoint. Highly recommended. Also, just a note about Amazon shipping. I had this shipped super saver shipping and it actually arrived two days before the expected ship date. (fantastic!) 『i bought this and after reading lackluster reviews on just about every cordless mouse/keyboard combo, decided this was the best pick of the lot. but my expectations were not insanely high either. i have a wall separating my living room from my computer in my bed room, but just hooking this thing up to the usb port on the front of my computer was able to get me reception in the living room and all the way in the kitchen! we're talking 20+ feet, through a wall, and while the usb is pointed in the OPPOSITE direction. i even played COD4 in the living room and it was great. yesterday i bought a usb extension cord and ran it through the wall to the base of the TV and now anywhere in the apartment the mouse/keyboard will work perfectly.
i also have a keyboard/mouse that is corded hooked to my computer. logitech keyboard and microsoft mouse, but the corded hardware works fine simultaneously with the cordless in the living room. what is also nice is that the mouse sensitivity can be controlled on both mice, so i have them set approximately the same. the mouse is also very nice...i love the feel and the extra buttons. i was initially interested in the mx5500 because of that mouse, but when i got this mouse i was quite impressed with how comfortable and useful it was. the keyboard is great, too, and has media controls at the top, which is nice if you are playing a game and want to change the song in the middle of a round.
all in all, for the $60 i paid, awesome deal and highly recommended!』

(Don't discount the lens mount error) 『The D90 was my first step into DSLR and I chose Nikon because of 20+ years of good past experience with a rock-solid (and very basic!) N2000 and later the digital Coolpix 950. I bought my D90 in June 2009 and for several thousand images it fell in the category "you shouldn't ever feel this close to an inanimate object". I like the way it feels in my hand and its weight isn't a problem for me, although I've seen a few negative comments about that. I'm happy with the bright display. The batteries have lasted well. The controls are where they should be for a Nikon. It was solid: you can easily freeze the hummingbird in the air and the water droplets falling from a dolphin at its apex. It had the kind of responsiveness that you'll recall if you've worked with plain old SLRs (and minus the "lag" of the older non-SLR Coolpix!).
It'd be safe to say I love almost everything about the camera...*except* that I've recently run into the F-- lens mount error. I'd read Amazon reviews before buying the camera, but blew off what people had written

I've removed the lens, cleaned the contacts, etc. but quite often now I'll be squeezing a shot and nothing...sometimes jiggling the lens or remounting fixes the problem. Even slight pressure on the side of the zoom can correct the problem.
All I can really say about the problem is that if you don't have it, you'll probably love the D90. If you *do* have it, it's really a deal breaker. In any situation with a moving/changing subject, you almost never have a second chance once you've nudged the lens a bit and tried to clear it. And having that confidence in your equipment that it will work reliably when you need it is unspeakably important.
Without the lens mount/electrical contact error, I'd give the camera the highest rating. As is, I now have to figure out what the Nikon terms are on servicing the camera, determine where to send it, etc. All I really want now is to have this camera back working correctly because I think it's a beautiful piece of technology when working.』
(Great camera for the enthuisiast.) 『I got this camera for my wife because she has an unexplored interest in photography, and she absolutely loves it. She went from not knowing the difference between iso and aperture to being able to fine tune the camera to get the image she wanted. The shots are far from perfect but they definitely have a beautiful professional look to them.
I work in video and film production and so i have a great appreciation for the tremendous level of control the camera gives you. Huge iso/shutter ranges, it would be nice to have a quicker lens though. We have figured out a majority of the controls thanks to the easily accessible manual and quick manual and good old fashioned playing around.
The best part we've found is that even without painstakingly setting manual settings the camera takes beautiful pictures on it's automatic settings. Our real gems up to this point have come from manual settings, but that just means we have lots of room to improve.
An SDHC card is a good addition for quick read/write functionality.
This is a fantastic camera to help the photography enthuisiast or professional to create stunning photos well above it's price.』

I love this set because it uses more traditional LEGO pieces, meaning there are more plain 2X4 pieces. Most new themed LEGO sets have more specialty pieces than normal LEGO pieces, but not with this set. Being an old school LEGO fan I really like seeing that. That becomes a huge bonus when your child wants to rebuild the pieces using their own imagination because then they can put them together however they want. So many new sets have pieces that could only be used in certain ways. I love the new sets as well, but I am glad to see LEGO make some more traditional types as well.
