My Chicken Fried Steak came out a mahogany color, and the crust had a definite burnt flavor. The frying oil was burnt, not reusable, and oil is not cheap.
Most authoritative cookbooks recommend 320° to 365°F for deep frying. The highest smoke point of readily available shortening is around 350-360°F, only canola and peanut oils are above 400°F.
I would put the ideal temperature at no more than 350°F, 50°F less than this fryer.
Presto Customer Service said I should only use canonla oil (contrary to the enclosed instructions) and if that was not satisfactory, I should return the unit.
I was disappointed and surprised after good reviews.』

(Very nice kettle) 『I bought this to replace my metal whistling kettle. The whistle is louder than my previous ones, so I can hear it from the next room. The glass heats up much quicker than metal. And, it's nice enough to serve from on the table.
I had a couple of minor complaints, however. You need to really turn the kettle at an extreme angle to get the last few ounces of water out of it. While I'm doing this, the steam escapes onto my hand and wrist - not a big deal, but it's uncomfortable. And, the cup markings on the outside are a bit misleading. I have to fill it to 4 cups to fill a single mug for tea. Seems like it's about 4oz per "cup" on the markings.』

There are so many beautiful words with internal rhymes and rhythms that go so beautifully with the extraordinary arrangements. Although Eros does collaborate with others on the music and lyrics, his unique singing is what makes it all work so well. Eros sings with such soul and he has truly mastered the art. I am just so grateful to have Eros's music with me in my life, esp. those long car trips. I feel so reassured when he sings, in "Appunti e noti", "Sono sempre qua con questo spiriti ho." America. The listener will find just about every important artist in the world of Yiddish music; including, but not limited to Naftule Brandwein, Dave Tarras, Mishka Ziganoff, Abe Schwartz, Harry Kandel, Yossele Rosenblatt, Berele Chagy, Mordechay Hershman, David Roitman, Alter Yechiel Karniol, Pierre Pinchik, Isa Kremer, Fraydele Oysher, Ludwig Satz, Jennie Goldstein, Maurice Schwartz, Fyvush Finkel and others of equal ability and reputation. This is not viewing entertainment, but rather recorded history of one of the darkest and survival challenging periods in America and the Free World's struggles. Historic in content with a salute to America's Greatest Generation.Film History collectors, find a place for this great set. A world of caution; The VHS set is complete with clear viewing filming and a sound track as filmed in 1950. Several DVD reproductions are reported to been very bad on product quality. I would recommend buying the VHS series and avoiding any of the DVD repros.』
(Older VHS vs new DVD) 『Buyer beware! The newer DVD set of this FABULOUS series is not up to the quality of this VHS edition. The DVDs are made by the History channel, and the sound quality is awful. This older VHS version, produced by New Line features (although on tape) has a much finer sound quality and even the video isn't that bad, compared to the lousey transfer of the DVDs. These are still the finest chronicles of war footage AND narration that have been made of WWll, in my opinion. Try to get thru them without tearing up at the human sacrifice and bravery.
UPDATE: Mill Creek Entertainment now has a 3 disc DVD set for UNDER $10.00 with all the 26 episodes. I have compared them side by side PIP on my TV....Identical prints as the VHS tapes, only slightly sharper on the DVD's. Sound quality same as tapes, Great bargain!』
(Hopelessly Old Fashioned) 『Once considered one of the greatest TV documentaries ever made, no one under the age of fifty is going to be able to sit through this overblown, hoaky collection of war footage. The narration is so overdramatic it's almost laughable, like the propaganda films made during the war to increase morale. Roger's score is great music, but it's just too prominant and often completely inappropriate (like the cheerfull flute music as Hitler marches into Paris).
Skip this dinosaur and go directly to World at War, the great BBC series from the 1970s.』
("Victory at Sea" -- A Victory to See) 『Probably the most extraordinary documentary of World War II ever produced for television, the original 26 episodes of "Victory at Sea" have been collated into six VHS tapes. To own the original 26 volumes on individual tapes is a collector's treasure indeed. Virtually impossible to find in that format and, if you can find it, good luck on the price!
Starting with "Prelude to War," each episode of the series focuses on a distinct naval engagement or campaign in the Second World War. Captured enemy film from various Axis sources enhances the vast collection of U.S. Navy and other Allied and private sources used to compile each episode. The narration by Leonard Graves is superb and the writing for the narration is equally prominent. Narration is always just right and never excessive allowing the viewer to relish the award-winning musical score with its familiar and sometimes haunting refrains. Three long-playing recordings of the original soundtrack and variations thereof from the series were released in the heyday of "high fidelity" recordings. Soundtrack CDs are currently available for those who enjoy the music as much as the video images.
All footage is in black and white and there are some technical "deficiencies" for the purists among the viewing audience. However, considering the series made its television debut in 1952, the historical accuracy, content and balanced perspective are truly remarkable. In the episode centered around the climactic naval and island battle for Okinawa, Leonard Graves describes the kamikaze threat to the U.S. fleet off the island as a "duel between gunners who fight to live and pilots who fight to die." There is no judgment of kamikaze fanaticism a mere seven years after the end of the war. Episode after episode, it is a factual account of what occurred on the vast oceans and seas of the world without political inclination of any sort.
"Victory at Sea" is a true classic documentary of American television with the bonus of one of the most enduring soundtracks of any film presentation of any kind. It is a mandatory addition to the video library of anyone interested in World War II -- especially all aspects of the war at sea. Selections from the series should be used to educate the youth of the nation in the secondary schools to convey the scale and sacrifice of so many six decades ago.』

It really brought all the memories of that era and those that were able were up dancing and those that could not dance were singing and tapping their feet. They not only enjoyed the music but the added touch of the swing dancers really brought it all back for them.

He makes the top notes seem easy. His captivating stage presence, along with his trombone playing, lend a great deal to the performance value of this production. The orchestra, under Eric's direction, plays the jazzy/swing arrangements expertly. The "girl" singer, Mary Cleere Haran, is an asset to the production. The piano player is amazing, seemingly so at ease at the keyboard. The setting, resembling a USO hall of the wartime period, creates a place to showcase the unique style of the swing dancers. Eric is a multitalented person who obviously enjoys what he does, and strives for perfection. I think anyone who has feeling and appreciation for the good music reminiscent of the World War II era would be pleased with this video. Eric shines!!!』

Covers the approach of openess Coltrane took to his music incorporating Indian and eastern rythmns which inspired him and which was a basis of his spiritual development. It has a complete take on "My favorite things" which is really electrifying and also shows Coltrane jammin with Miles Davis as well. John Coltrane's music captures you and takes you on a spiritual journey unlike any other jazz musician (except maybe Miles). Very introspective interviews with his former sidemen as well. Even though the picture quality is grainy on some parts, the music is alive and mystifying and conveys Coltrane's musical genius. I highly recommend this DVD to any Coltrane fan, this is now one of my favorite DVD's in my collection along with "Miles Electric".』
(The best ever My Favorite Things...) 『
If this version of MFT was only available on CD, it would certainly be the best version ever... There's only some problems with that: although the doco does contain the entirety of Coltrane's solo after Tyner's, it does not include the beginning of the performance...and also, the sound quality is so extremely bad that it almost makes you weep.
Still, this is incredible music. Coltrane here breaks so free from the studio version of the piece that one wonders why none of the recorded (or bootlegged) versions seem to have this much power...this is truly an outstanding performance, which we are lucky to have.
The visuals are also astoundingly powerful - you can see the strain in Coltrane's face, and in Elvin Jones' - drool begins dripping out of the end of the soprano sax, and at one point Coltrane (deeply into the performance) accidentally clubs the microphone with it! The visual details make this performance almost frightening to watch - one wonders what a real live performance of coltrane was like.
The other performances on this disc are very fine too - look at the ONLY complete recording of Alabama (not a single CD version has the whole piece) and it's on video too! There's a couple of fierce performances of Impressions - one with Eric Dolphy - and a superb Naima.
There is finally colour footage of Coltrane at the Newport '65 concert (New thing at Newport) which shows the frightening energy of his music making as well as the fact that James Garrison had appalling dress sense...

(Excellent Documentary) 『The performance footage alone would be worth the price of this 1 hour documentary that focuses on the music and life of John Coltrane. Clips are included from his work with Miles Davis and also his classic quartet in an extended version of My Favorite Things. In addition there is a clip that flashes back and forth between the Southern Church tradition and Coltrane's soloing that clearly links the two and demonstrates the roots of his art in a tangible way. The interviews with Alice Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and others are illuminating and show how influential Coltrane was for other musicians. For any fan of Coltrane's music that never had the chance to see him perform this DVD offers a great opportunity to get a glimpse at the man behind all of that wonderful music. I absolutely loved it.』
("He integrated all of the music of the world") 『I've watched quite a few documentaries lately and this is one of very best. It is straight ahead--covering Coltrane's background and musical journey through the years. There is a lot of excellent footage of him and other musicians playing--a real treat for those who like jazz from his era, as I do. There are short clips of Charlie Parker, Monk, and Ravi Shankar. In addition, one gets exposure to members of Coltrane's bands including solos by Eric Dolphy and Roscoe Mitchell, and plenty of good footage of Elvin Jones on the drums. Early on, there is a clip of Coltrane when he was in the Miles Davis band. Miles plays a bit, then Coltrane steps into a solo and the viewer can immediately see what a powerful force he was.
This film includes a long solo of Coltrane and his band playing"My Favorite Things"--where he works himself into a feverish mood. The film effectively draws a comparison between Coltrane's playing and a spiritual trance, not unlike what he would have experienced in church as a young person in North Carolina.
There are some great interviews with Rashied Ali, Tommy Flanagan, Jimmy Heath, Wayne Shorter, LaMonte Young and Alice Coltrane. In addition to the well-chosen footage, I like this film so well because it treats the viewer as intelligent. It isn't filled with superlatives and excessive fawning. It isn't condescending."A Love Supreme"is barely mentioned. The interviewees talk to the camera (to you) like you're a real person who's curious about the life and the music of Coltrane. For a jazz fan, this is a real treasure. For someone who doesn't know much about Coltrane, it would probably be an excellent introduction. The length is about one hour.』

It is only 60 min and not all the time is for his music. DVD can fill>3 h. 2. Comments are interrupting his performance. The sessions are cut at the middle. I think I need to wait for DVD writer and create the movie that I want by myself. I want to have whole session of performance from Jazz Casual (weak picture, but the sound recording is good). I want to see as much as possible from Kind of Blue, My Favorite Things, Giants Steps and Love Supreme. I saw the parts from these sessions but I want to have all of it. I don't care that the picture can be weak, but I want to see Coltranes fingers and hear his sax. Powerful heater, it warms up a room fairly quickly. The heated air can be directed horizontally or vertically with the vent control. This heater would be a good choice in cold climates.
Thermostat seems pretty good at keeping the room at a constant temperture.
Has auto (thermostat controlled), low, high heating modes. Only the low heating mode is quiet.
Cool to touch, can be placed against wall.
Remote control works well.
Weaknesses:
Unit is not as quiet as would be hoped. This may be an issue if you are watching TV or going to sleep with the heater on. In the low heat mode, the fan is fairly quiet, but then the heater will remain constantly on (the automatic mode that controls the heater using the thermostat uses both high and low heat modes). The remote control can help alleviate this problem.
Unit is LARGER than most alternatives (be sure to note dimensions). Not as easy to store in summer months.

The great thing about this item is the fact that it pulls cool air up through a bottom vent and then the heated air exits through the vents on top. This really circulates the air and warms up the room very quickly.
Power consumption doesn't appear to be too bad. Doesn't trip the circuit breakers even on high heat.

(Does a great job but a bit noisey) 『UPDATE: Seems like the noise I previously reported has soften somewhat during these days. Maybe there is a break in period for the cyclonic fan... I don't know, but at least I can now fall asleep. It's still noisy in comparison to other heaters but I am very happy nonetheless. The remote is key btw. I use it every night to turn it on and/or set the timer. I can even use it in the dark since the function buttons are surrounding the one large power button. You remember where the timer button or temperature button is located and you definitely know which is the power button.
The bottom line is that this heater looks great against the wall, taking very little space in depth and with it's manual 90 degree rotation for output flow, it easily heats up my 15x15 drafty renovated room, when compared to smaller 1500watt heaters. The remote is very convenient to use while waking up in the morning BUT this is NOT the quietest heater I ever had. Since Auto Temp control only works in high setting, if you want to go to sleep with the heater ON while using the Timer, the noise from the fan will keep you awake. The rotation noise is flawed and is even louder than my air purifier. I will be exchanging this model at Sears to see if this was just an isolated incident and will update this review with the details in the future.

I'll admit that I believe there are plenty of other subjects&wrestlers in WWE that are more indemand to be released onto DVD than Batista (just like a majority of the Chris Jericho supporters in the previous reviews&I personally would like more "legends" sets using the footage from their vault). However, I'm not blind either in that it's a fact that Batista has been one of the biggest&most popular stars in WWE for going on the past 5 years weather I like it or not®ardless if I do or don't agree with the reasons that is...and another thing I can't deny is that Batista has been in some of the best matches on certain PPV cards for the past couple of years. The guy is already in his 40's&he's not expected to be around for a very long time either so it's better business to strike while he's still at the peak of his popularity&career. Not everything WWE Home Video puts out appeals to all audiences and this is one of those cases where you just have made up your mind&don't care for Batista then this release isn't for you, this was the decision that was made weather we like it or not&there isn't anything we can do about it now.
The documentry stars off talking about Batista's childhood growing up in the rough area of Washington D.C. and how he came the "man of the house" at an early age before going into his experiences of moving to San Francisco&Virginia. How he started weightlifting in high school&his early "easy money" jobs were talked about before going in the story of his relationship with his future (now ex) wife Angie. How Batista got involved with wrestling originally through WCW&later with a WWE Hall Of Famer was talked about before getting into the story behind his WWE developmental character Leviathan. His career starting as Deacon Batista&eventually becoming a member of Evolution is discussed with various important moment being highlighed. How the fans "chose him" over Randy Orton leading to his WrestleMania match against Triple H is also talked about including various issues he had going into the match&the incident that happened backstage after the match as well. The documentry got real personal as the negative effect the business had on his relationship with Angie along with Dave's issues with his oldest daughter were heavily discussed. The move to SmackDown (and the "heat" he had backstage with the roster)&how close he got with Eddie Guerrero&Rey Mysterio is discussed before heavily going into the popularity he's had with the Philippino community. The story behind him forfitting the World Title due to injury, his surgery&comeback, and regaining the title from King Booker is discussed before talking about his feuds against Undertaker, Edge, and Shawn Michaels before closing out the documentry on his celebrity status leading into other TV shows&various magazine covers.
DVD extras include bonus stories of Batista talking about a brutal version of "Hide&Seek" he used to play as a kid, Batista&his mom telling stories of his rough neighborhood that resulted in 3 different shootings in his first yard, being a lifeguard at the community pool, funny story behind filming a Leviathan segment, what happened when Dave spent $500 on a new suit for his WWE debut, what happened when he went to a pool tournament with Triple H, the moment he gained the most respect for Eddie Guerrero&how Eddie helped Dave's relationship with his daughter, a gift he gave Chavo Guerrero, and the story behind his "geeky" lunchbox collection.
Also include are two disc of bonus matches including... vs. Kane - This match was just wasn't good&boring for the most part. Batista was still very green at the time&Kane can only carry his opposition so far in a match but it just didn't work here. Armageddon '02
vs. World Champion Triple H - The match itself was just HHH beating down on Batista until he pissed him off&"unleashed the Animal"&beat up HHH in a way we haven't seen in a long time, at that point, all the way to winning the World Heavyweight Championship. If you watch the documentry, you'll find out an interesting fact in that Batista didn't have feeling in one of his legs during this match. WrestleMania 21
Hell In A Cell Match vs. Triple H - An awesome match that tops their WrestleMania match by so many points . You could see the hardcore influence in this match as so many hardcore weapons (barbed wire chairs for example) were used. Triple H bleeds buckets once again and is one of this best matches of not just the night but his career period. Vengeance '05 ("Triple H: King Of Kings"&"Hell In A Cell")
No Holds Barred Match vs. JBL - This match was pretty short&sweet but if you saw their Great American Bash match, you'll know why. Batista was also in his hometown so he put on one of this best performances given the conditions. SummerSlam '05
vs. Eddie Guerrero - This was more about "putting over a storyline" than having a great match because Eddie was putting over the storyline of "not lying, cheating, and stealing." The match was good but again, nothing really memorable besides the fact that this was the last we'll see of Eddie Guerrero on WWE PPV. No Mercy '05 ("Viva La Raza: The Legacy Of Eddie Guerrero")
vs. World Champion King Booker - This match was about one thing, Batista winning the belt back in the arena he lost it in. This was better than their SummerSlam match but that's not saying much. This was another performance that Batista "walked through" to the point to where the people started to leave&you could hear small "boring" chants. Again, it wasn't a horrible match but it was just dry&boring. Survivor Series '06
vs. Undertaker - Taker's Undefeated Streak vs. Batista's Title and I'll be point blank honest, this was the match that should have ended the show. This was Batista's best showing since he returned from his injury as he stepped up his game&didn't show any lack of effort like most of his previous performances. This was a classic "big money" WrestleMania match&the match of the night for me as you saw the crowd off the chain thoughout the bout&even moments where it looked like Batista was going to end the streak&one spot to look out for would be Undertaker's big dive onto Batista. It's ironic that this was the 20 year anniversary of WrestleMania 3 but Undertaker walks out of his WM the same way he did 10 years earlier...as a champion. WrestleMania 23
Steel Cage Match vs. World Champion Edge - Well, this heavily makes up for their Judgment Day match as Batista did carry his own weight here in this cage match. It's wasn't a bloody massacre (eventhough Edge got a bad gash near his lip) but a watchable matchup where again, it was so close between both men. One Night Stand '07
w/Special Referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Undertaker - Undertaker brought out the type of performance from Batista that he needed after that godawful series of matches with Khali. Just like their previous trilogy of matches, this was a awesome match from start to finish. Cyber Sunday '07
vs. John Cena - Both Cena&Batista have a reputation for being too "off&on/hot&cold" during their matches but that wasn't the case here as both men brought forth a strong effort&were on the ball in this match. Batista used a different type of offense than we normally see from him as he showed signs of Ric Flair's offense of attack the leg&even used the figure four submission along with a rear naked choke later on while Cena also worked on the leg to set up the STFU. From reversing each others moves like the powerslam into the FU&the leg drop off the top into a powerbomb before Batista unleashed "the animal" and proved he was as as Michael Cole put it, "three seconds better than Cena.". SummerSlam '08
vs. Randy Orton - After teasing a match between these two since the days of Evolution, they lock up for the first time ever...since the episode of RAW after WrestleMania 21. This was one of those matches that I honestly felt didn't go past "first gear" as they kept the same pace throughout the match with it only picking up at various spots with their impact moves&counters instead of just building up over time but I'll give credit here for telling a story with each move of Orton's being very calculated. It was a good match but I felt like it didn't live up to the "4 years" hype they used to build up this match. Armageddon '08
Also included are a match as his OVW character Leviathan vs. Doug Basham, Shawn Michaels at Armageddon '03, a tables match with Ric Flair vs. Dudley Boyz from Royal Rumble '04, Chris Jericho at Vengeance '04, his performance in the '05 Royal Rumble, triple threat vs. King Booker&Finaly from "SmackDown" in Dec. '06, and the Evolution reunion with Triple H&Ric Flair vs. Edge&Umaga&another former Evolution member in Randy Orton from the 15th Anniversary Edition of RAW.
In the end, this was exactly what I stated in the beginning as this is strickly a DVD for Batista fans as far as the documentry goes because the fact is that Batista hasn't had a long career so there weren't many stories to tell but at least they tried to make up for it by getting deep in his personal life&were honest with various subjects (unlike how they heavily overexaggeraed&lied on Cena's) like his backstage heat&his attitude when he came to SmackDown. As for the match selection, it's nice that they didn't get alot of matches already released on other DVD's (unless you buy every single PPV DVD they put out) they got most of Batista's best performances on here (you notice there was no mention of Great Khali anywhere on this set) but there are some matches on here just to document a moment (like the S. Series match with Booker) or a stage in his career (his OVW match) along with some other flops (like the match with Kane) that could have easily been replaced with another match or important moment from his career like his Backlash rematch against Triple H, winning the tag team titles with Mysterio, or his title victory against Jericho at Cyber Sunday '08. In the end, if your already a big fan of Batista then odds are your going to get this anyways but if you aren't then I would suggest to get this set based off the match selection more than anything else because the documentry was lacking due to Batista not having a long career. 』
(The Animal is Unleashed) 『This is a fantastic DVD for one of the best superstars in WWE today, The Animal Batista. Tons of great moments and matches are included, like his classic matches with Triple H, Undertaker, and his epic encounter with John Cena. However other great matches are missing, like his great series of matches with Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho in 2008. They are only briefly mentioned in the documentary. I would have also included the Last Man Standing match or Hell in a Cell with the Undertaker, the Punjabi Prison match with The Great Khali, the second Night of Champions match with Edge, and his world title match with CM Punk at The Great American Bash.
But in the end, this is still a must-have DVD for all die-hard WWE fans!』
(Batista Walks Alone) 『I will preface this review by saying that I have been a Batista fan since early in 2002. I discovered him through Ohio Valley Wrestling, and was instantly hooked with his captivating character. This is an unbiased review however, and not a case of a fangirl screaming over a loved wrestler.
What I liked the most about the DVD was Disc One, the interviews with people who know Batista the best. He has always struck me as a very humble man, and he certainly comes across that way in the interviews. When you listen to him speak, he gives credit where credit is due. It isn't only his interviews that I enjoyed, it was great seeing the people who are so important in his life. As I said, I've been a fan of Batista since the very early days, and seeing Jonathan Meisner, a person I used to interact with on Batista's official message board was interesting. Hearing many of the stories from his book "Batista Unleashed" told in person was enjoyable. Also, there are pictures shown on this DVD that I do not remember from the book.
Disc Two and Three feature matches, and even though I had seen all of the matches before, it was nice seeing them again all in one place. I almost wish they had included more OVW matches, in particular the match where he saved Ric Flair's son David from John Cena and Sean O'Haire. Two other older matches that were included were awesome, Batista vs Shawn Michaels from Armageddon 2003, and Batista vs Jericho from Vengeance 2004. Of course, my favorite match is Batista vs HHH Wrestlemania 2005, especially since I can see me holding my sign during the build up to the match.
Overall, I found the product very entertaining, and the production is very slick.』
(In-Depth Story.) 『I Was Actually Against Purchasing This DVD, So I Had Rented This One. Like The Internet Wrestling Community, I Was Also Against Batista Coming Out With A DVD This Early In His Career, Despite Other Performers Such As Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Even From The Likes Of Mid-Carders Like Shelton Benjamin As Well. I Haven't Read The Book, But I Think That Since That Was Released, Maybe Some Readers Thought That He Should Put Out A DVD For The Non-Literary Community.
I Personally Love WWE DVD's That Really Get Into The Subject's Life And Upbringing And Also What Bought Them Into The Business, Let Alone Deep Backstage Issues And Rumors That The IWC Always Reads Everyday.
For Those People Who Like Non-Kayfabe WWE Documentaries, This One Is One To At Least Rent (For All Those Who Do Have Netflix Accounts.) This One To Me Is Intriging, But Not Much As The Shawn Michaels DVD Back In 2007, Or The Ric Flair DVDs.

The basic premise stays the same: a sister and brother find a strange game based on a jungle safari adventure. When they begin playing it, they find they cannot stop, for the characters and events of the game come to life and start filling their house with monkeys, lions, explorers and other strange things. Only finishing the game will make it all go away. In the hands of Hollywood, more story is added. Now we have a game spanning 26 years, when one of the two children playing the game in 1969 gets sucked into the game itself. He's trapped there until a fresh pair of children in 1995 find the game and begin playing. The right number is rolled, and out Alan comes...as Robin Williams! Finding the grown girl to complete the group, the four must complete the game before their town is destroyed by the stampeding rhinos, killer pod vines and crazed Great White Hunter. Robin has some good moments in this film, though he isn't allowed to riff as much as in other vehicles. He's supported by an excellent cast, including a young Kirsten Dunst as the sister of the new pair of children; Jonathan Hyde as both the 1969 father and Van Pelt, the Great White Hunter from the game; and Bebe Neuwirth as the modern children's aunt. The effects are, not surprisingly, ILM-excellent -- necessary in a film of this type. The script was co-written by Van Allsburg to insure the atmosphere of the film and book mesh, but he did not fall into the "This is MY baby" syndrome, and received good help from his two co-writers (for details, see the main page). Highly recommended for old and young alike.』

Yet I walked away from the theater disappointed with this movie; and the other day after viewing it on cable my disappointment hasn't wavered. While some scenes were certainly exciting and entertaining, for the most part JUMANJI was annoying--from David Alan Grier's (who added nothing to this film) wrecked police cruiser, to Robin Williams's "poor me" sappiness, to Kirsten Dunst being an irritating smart aleck, to a young Bradley Pierce whimpering with monkey makeup on. Yuck. And the special effects. . .let's just say CGI has come a long way since the last decade. No, the monkeys and spiders and bats and elephants and the lion and rhinos did not look real. And what, pray tell, was the point in playing this (terrifying) game in the first place? Games are played for fun--not to teach near-lethal life lessons.
Now the good. Jonathan Hyde was fun to watch in his dual role as Williams's father/hunter-protagonist; and Bebe Neuwirth is always easy on the eye, no matter what the venue. And I liked the juvenile, bawdy, irreverent orneriness of the game board itself; in many ways it was the best character in JUMANJI, and kept the movie from rolling snake eyes. --D. Now that that's done; I couldn't imagine Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in an action film but they pulled it off well. Nobody can top what Adams, Feldon, Platt, Kopell, etc. did in the series and the actors in this don't rip off their interpretations or belittle what they had done. Carell plays Max with a deadpan wit, which I enjoy, compared to Adams' nasily voice which defined the character back in the 60s and it still does now. Hathaway is the accomplished agent who doesn't even tolerate Max until the end while Feldon immediately fell in love with him. Platt's Chief grew exasperated with Max's antics while Arkin's actually admired Max's talent. And Kopell (who makes a cameo) used a thick German accent while Terence Stamp is an English actor who plays Seigfreid with a bit more menace. The references to the series are excellent from Max's catchphrase to the shoe-phone. Even the three cars Adams drove in the opening credits are featured. The plot is a little cliched (drawing comparisons from how Steve Martin's Clouseau gets humiliated only to be redeemed in the end) and some twists aren't that surprising but it doesn't stop this from being funny and exciting. The gags and jokes are clever (this being one of few comedies I've seen in theatres and the whole audience was laughing) but the vomit joke was disgusting and not remotely funny. The action sequences were executed well, some scenes being homages to the Bond films (the original series being a spoof of them) such as the free fall fight sequence with Dalip (who reminds me a little of Richard Keil's Jaws and Kabir Bedi's Gobinda) from Moonraker. Trevor Rabin's score is excellent and I love the reorchestrated TV theme.』
(Funny, but not a classic like the show) 『Get Smart is based on the classic 1960s sitcom starring Don Adams as Maxwell Smart and Barbara Feldon as agent 99. In the movie Steve Carrell as Smart is Control's top analyst but he wants to be an agent. He finally gets his chance when Control agents all over the world are attacked at once by KAOS and they are left short handed. So agent 86 goes on his first mission with agent 99 played by Ann Hathaway.
The cast play their parts with verve and their are several laugh out loud moments in the movie, but it doesn't sustain the laughs throughout. People who didn't watch the TV show may like it more. I loved the old show and found the differences off-putting. Don Adams played Smart with a bumbling arrogance. Carrell is a brilliant comedic actor but he played Smart so straight he had almost no personality. Barbara Feldon's 99 was smart and confident but also vulnerable. But it's Carell and his combination of insecure yearning and deadpan delivery that makeGet Smartas, well, smart as it is. When Max learns he's finally been promoted to agent, he slips into the Cone of Silence--which unfortunately is malfunctioning. "I'm so happy! (Fast and Easy to Use) 『After going back and forth on a number of different scanners to replace my old Scanjet 3970, I settled on this one. My requirements were: 1. Had to be fast. I've got a lot of pictures to scan in and I want to scan at decent resolution (at least 1200 DPI). 2. Had to handle negatives. I've got a lot of old negatives to scan in. 3. Had to be easy to use and "mindless". I typically scan photos and such in during the day and need to be able to drop them on the scanner and hit a single button.
This scanner has met all of those expectations.
A few minor complaints: 1. I can't find a way to specify an output directory. If there is a way it's well hidden. 2. The accessories for holding the slides and negatives seem a bit "flimsy". They haven't broken on me but I could see it happening. 3. The accessories are "loose". To use the slide scanner adapter you have to take out the regular backing for the scanner. And when you aren't using them the accessories have no storage area.
These are minor complaints, however.
Over all the speed is excellent and the picture quality outstanding. It handles negatives flawlessly and can hold up to 12 negatives on two strips at a time saving them each to different files. 』

(Avoid the power supply, but it does work) 『I couldn't figure this out for the life of me, and I constantly read reviews about it. Finally I accidentally learned how to use it.
1) if you can avoid using the power supply that comes with it, do so. My drive could still be attached to the computer's original power source, and it worked just fine. I do not trust the power supply that comes with this item. It doesn't even stay plugged into itself and I worry about it overheating or blowing up. It feels very shoddy.
2) all you need to do is plug the cable into your powered and running drive and let it sit for like, half an hour. THEN when you plug the USB into your laptop or other computer, it will recognize your hard drive as if it were a external drive. All you need to do then is drag and drop!
I wouldn't plan on using this as a permanent solution.. just save the files you need and then buy a new drive!
Once I figured it out it worked fine. Don't know why it needs to sit for a half hour, but don't care either. It let me get to my data and that's what I needed!』

That could be a good or bad thing depending on where you have it and how you feel about night lights.
