Then I got this ad from Amazon with this vacuum listed, strange, how did they know I needed another one? Anyway, I like this one for the doing the stair cases more than the dirt devil. The Eureka has a door on the front that flips down and lets you vacuum the riser of the stair without all the gymnastics that I had to do with the other one. The crevice tool has a separate spot in the back for it, it is not stored in the hose reducing suction like the dirt devil did. I also like the canister you can empty, instead of a bag. It was always a pain to empty the dirt devil and you never knew when it was full; let alone find replacement bags for it.』

It is a powerful little vacuum, easy to use and easy to clean. It is a little heavy, but I was prepared for that, and I would much rather deal with an extra couple of pounds of weight than buy a smaller vac with less suction (I wouldn't buy it for an elderly person, but the weight shouldn't be an issue for most people). I am not bothered by the noise level: I've had vacuums that are louder, and this one seems to be in a pretty normal range to me (it IS louder than a Dust Buster, but it also works a lot harder than the Dust Buster). Overall, I am very satisfied with this vacuum, and after shopping around and trying out different products, I am happy that I wound up with this one, considering the flaws and performance of the others I tried. There are just a couple of things I really dislike, and these 2 things might have been enough to keep me from purchasing it in the first place: 1. the hose does NOT stretch to 3 times its length as the product description states. Perhaps if one person held the vac in place and another person pulled with all his/her might and stretched the hose as far as it could possibly go, at the moment just before the hose split from the strain, it might have reached 2.5 times the original length. Of course, no one will ever do that. The hose is just not stretchy enough to extend into all the spaces you need it to go. 2. Since the hose is not long enough, one wishes that the shape of the vac were a little less bulky and awkward. It is difficult to fit it into small spaces. Of course none of the attachments from my old handheld vac fit this one, so I'm going to try to buy the Eureka attachments to make up for these deficiencies. As I say, knowing this would probably have prevented my buying this vac, but I haven't found a better one in this price range, so I am quite happy overall.』

It just didn't seem to have the suction strength I needed, the intake channel was simply too narrow to do this job quickly, and it took more time than I preferred to to clean my stairs. (Good suction but very tiny opening) 『1. Suction on this is very good. It had no problem pickin up pet hair from our microfiber couches. These usually hold the hair like velcro and this was able to get it off no problem.
2. Although the suction was good, the width of the opening is ridiculously small for this type of job. It is a great nook and cranny dustbuster but for stairs or furniture you are going to be doing a LOT of back and forth.
3. After the first charge of 21 hours the suction lasted for about 10 minutes before dropping off noticeably. I cleaned the filter after that and re-gained a small amount of suction for about 60 seconds before it dropped off again. I am familiar with rechargeable batteries and understand that they need to cycle a few times before they reach their peak but I'm doubting this will ever go more than 20 minutes before loosing significant suction. That wouldn't be bad if the aforementioned width of the intake wasn't an issue.
4. It is a bit heavier than some of the older dustbusters I've used but that is probably a result of the increase in battery/motor size.
5. Filter cleaning isn't really THAT easy. Unless you are sucking up hard plastic items or jellybeans you are going to have to remove the paper filter and clear it of dust and debris by hand.
Overall a good product but not suited well to my particular task of cleaning up pet hair daily.』

So that I was expecting to have a cordless hand held bulldozer. I guess, I understand why people complain. The noise of the machine is not thaaaat loud, but it is sharp and high frequency sound. So that, if you feel uncomfortable for these kind of noise, then, it might disturb you. I really don't care, as it is very powerful as many people have said. Also, the nose is thin, so it is very easy to reach small and narrow areas.
Overall, it is a great vacuum cleaner. I recommend it, if you don't care about these kind of noise. 』

(Missing just one small thing...) 『This is easily the best air popper we've had/used and we've had/used a few over the years. Using the same quality corn as we have with others this popper produces a higher yield, fluffier popped corn and, importantly, less popped corn thrown around the room! However, it is missing one seemingly simple and inexpensive part... an ON/OFF switch! Your "on/off" switch is effectively the plug&outlet. 9 out of 10 times this produces a blue spark at the electrical outlet upon first contact as the machine immediately tries to draw all the current it can attain. The kids don't like to use it, probably a good deterrent in hind site, but a simple $0.10 on/off switch probably should have been included in the bill of materials...』
(Great Popcorn Popper) 『I LOVE my new popcorn popper. I don't have any complaints. I turned the popcorn popper on and let it warm up about 3 minutes without the top on before placing the top and and putting in the popcorn as I read in another review. It works perfectly. When I hear the first pop I hold the pan close to the chute to avoid any wild kernels until the popper is full (takes about 30 seconds) then I put the pan down and let it pop. When your blowing hot air into popcorn a few wild kernels is to be expected but definitely was not any kind of problem. My sister and I used the popper to make several batches of popcorn for popcorn balls. We had the best time. One of the little measuring cups makes a lot of popcorn and I only had about 2-3 kernels left unpopped in the popper using Jolly Organic Popcorn. I would definitely buy again and plan to buy them for Christmas gifts. The grandchildren LOVE watching the corn pop and fall into the pan from the chute. Popping popcorn use to be a big deal but not any more. I really like the fact that we're not eating microwave popped corn anymore. GREAT PURCHASE!』
(Fast and healthy) 『This popcorn maker is great. It is fast, easy to use, and pops almost all of the kernels. It is great to have an air popper because you don't need to add a bunch of oil (although you can melt butter in the little cup at the top, if you want). The only downside is that there is no on/off switch-- plugging it in turns it on-- but that is pretty minor.』
(As Good As It Gets) 『I've had several air poppers over the years. My favorite has always been the Wearever Popcorn Pumper, but this Presto PopLite is almost as good.
What makes a good air popper are (1) popping chamber being sufficiently deep and narrow, and (2) hot-air fan being not so high as to easily facilitate unpopped kernels blowing out of the popping chamber.
This popper is very good on both issues!
As for others recommending "tilting popper back 30 degrees"... recommended to keep popping kernels from blowing others out of the popping chamber. If when the first couple of kernels pop you'll do this for about 15 seconds, there will be a build-up of popped kernels in the popping chamber which will prevent unpopped kernels from blowing out.
Also, recommend using a regular brand (I like Jolly Time Yellow). (THE MASTERS HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!) 『no this is not 1986 anymore so quit expecting slayer to do another reign in blood. they allready did it and changed metal forever by doing so......this cd CRUSHES! ther are a few songs that are a bit on the mellow side ala seasons in the abyss but it is a dark type of mellow with nice hooks. all of the elements that make slayer metal gods are here, fast galloping riffs with drumming to match and their signature crazy tremolo solos. if i had to compare this to other slayer cd's id say this one is a combo of rib,soh and sita. go listen to psycopathy red and tell me that aint something that could have been taken stright from reign in blood, it could be a lost track from 86. the production is very raw and real sounding. the guitars are raw and under distorted and the drums sound organic and not sampled and overproduced. i would have preferred a more modern production but this rawness suits the band well.

(What's Going On?) 『Does everyone remember what Slayer was like before they put out "Christ Illusion" and thier new CD? Well... I'll tell ya, Slayer, In case you are not familiar with them, are one of the most infamous metal bands that has ever stalked the planet. As far as being infamous I refer to thier lyrical subject matter. I can recall when I was growing up how afraid people were of Slayer. Even dudes that were into Metallica and Megadeth and stuff like that would say: "that's some crazy stuff, man." The Lyrics were gross and full of satanism. Slayer was not the first band to sell the devil but they did it in a grand style. Before them, a band called Black Sabbath lightly toyed with 'ol scratch. A few years later another band, Venom, who would be very influential to Slayer blasted a blaze of fire across the new wave of British heavy metal. Unlike Black Sabbath, Venom did not sugarcoat Satan. Practically all of Venom's albums have satanic symbols and meanings on thier covers and most of thier songs are about demons, sacrifice, and possession. Then, in 1983, a new band comes along with the same idea and similiar image. Slayer sang about the same type of stuff but with a different delivery. One which had never been heard before. Along with the blood-soaked words of death spewed out by Tom Araya, we also had music played at breakneck speed. Dave Lombardo, Slayer's drummer, played faster than anyone else at the time. He was also a wiz at double bass. Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman played thier guitars like madmen! King and Hanneman were a match made in hell. Both of them would become influential themselves in thier own right as metal guitarits. Tom Araya also played the bass as well as doing vocal duties. Tom's voice is one of the most recognizable in metal and Slayer is known the world over.
Since the release of the first album, "Show no Mercy" in 1983, The band would go on to reach critical acclaim with records such as "Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss", and "God Hates us All." Slayer had proven to the world that evil lives and would carry on the fight even to this day...26 years later. Whereas Slayer would release mostly great albums throughout the 1980's and 90's, after 2001's "God Hates us All" I would have to say they lost it after that CD. "World Painted Blood" in my opinion is Slayer's version of Metallica's "Load". A lot of what we love about Slayer is present on the new record but, there is a little too much different stuff going on. Stuff I've never heard Slayer do. There also seems to be something missing in the sound of the album as a whole. Don't get me wrong, It's still heavy but, it just don't sound right. Sounds kind of thin and light for a Slayer CD. I don't think Tom Araya is loud enough either. The songs themselves are a bit weak and discombobulated and never really seem to go anywhere. Maybe I need to give it a few more listens to let it sink in some more. I don't know. One song I remember I really liked was "Public Display of Dismemberment". I thought it was a really great tune on an otherwise drab album.
A DVD is included in the deluxe edition for a few dollars more. Is it worth it? Nah...unless you are a die-hard Slayer fan like myself. Slayer could put thier name on a turd and I would buy it. The DVD contains a short film. It is made with photos that move in a sort of "stop action" style with parts of the new album as it's soundtrack. It's kind of cool. It's cool that they did something like that. It's the first album I ever bought that included something other than behind the scenes stuff on a DVD.
Will Slayer make a comeback after this one? I hope so. I really don't know how much longer they will be around. At least we have all the great music they made before thier last 2 CD's. Oh well, once again in the future when Slayer puts out another new record, I will be waiting and hoping that it leaves these last two albums in the dust.』

It has a raw sound with classic attributes, brutal political and religious statements. Very aggressive in the lyrics blended with blazing, shredding, screaming guitars and Lord Dave blasting the perfection only he can. Don't buy the deluxe version. The little film is annoying and doesn't reflect the album in any way. I would've loved a "making of" but got this lame waste of time. Some people and their art. Hard to believe Slayer approved it. They may not have. Even Dez of Devil Driver didn't know what picture the last ablum had on the back. He was smiling. Any way. Buy the CD only and crank it! There's supposed to be 4 different covers available but I have heard no info if the songs will vary. Had I known that I probably would have purchased a different DVD with three segments that he does not already have. The segment that repeats itself is the dancing segment. Anyone with a child who loves Elmo's World knows that you'll end up watching the DVD's over and over again. He doesn't seem to mind seeing the same segment than twice in two videos, but it can drive me crazy. Other than that this is just as good as any of the other Elmo's World DVD's. I like that it introduces books since my son started watching this before he was interested in having us read him any of his books, and now he seems more interested in his books. Same twisted captain character, played by Vincent Price, who has a grudge against humanity. In his case though he has a technological edge and craft that frees him from participation in human society. He can't help meddling in human affairs, however, which is ultimately his downfall. Check out Charles Bronson as the hero. The Kennedy Effect』

However, 3 DUMB CLUCKS is a very funny short, especially with Curly playing two parts. There's a big clever mix-up toward the end. The scene where the Stooges fall 14 stories is funny. This short was remade with Shemp as UP IN DAISY'S PENTHOUSE (1953). I thought that one was funnier, but this one was also great.』
(GRIPS, GRUNTS THE WORLD'S DUMB CLUCKS) 『GRIPS, GRUNTS AND GROANS (1937) is one of my top 5 personal favorite Stooge shorts. This keeps me laughing every time. I also love the man playing Bustoff, he's hilarious and works well with the boys. He should've been in more shorts. The final scene with Curly going crazy in the wrestling ring is excellent. A Must see.
ALL THE WORLD'S A STOOGE (1941) - A classic, with plenty of great scenes. The first half with the boys taking over the dentist office is great, and the second half with the boys posing as little kids was even better. The ending was clever.
3 DUMB CLUCKS (1937) - A very creative and funny short with Curly playing two parts - himself and as his father. The interaction and camera work in the scene with the Stooges talking to their father (Curly) is interesting.
Viewers with careful eyes will notice Curly has a patch of hair on his head in several scenes in this short. You aren't seeing things - When they filmed the part where Curly (as his father) gets thrown down the elevataor shaft, Curly accidentally sliced his head open on a sharp object that was left in the shaft. He became unconscious and was rushed to the hospital immediately. After recovering, they used the patch of hair on Curly's head to hide his wound, but the patch of hair is too noticable on Curly's bald head.』
(Standard Stooges stuff) 『ALL THE WORLD'S A STOOGE has some lowbrow dentist's-office comedy, followed by a sketch in which they have to impersonate"refugee"children. THREE DUMB CLUCKS is distinguished by Curly's dual role (as himself and the Stooges' father); the Stooges try to prevent Pa from remarrying. GRIPS, GRUNTS AND GROANS is the topper for this group of shorts: Curly has to impersonate a professional wrestler! While these titles are no classics, they're certainly typical of the comedians' heyday, and fans will like them.』

I adopted them as a child in the 1950s when I grew up in New York and inspite of their success and unpopularity they remain my team. I have seen the dynasty of the 1950s and early 60s. Their fall in 1965 and resurrection in 1976. After 1981 they suffered a drought until 1996 and Joe Torre constructed his best team in 1998. While Sosa and McGwire were annihilating Maris' home run record the Yankees quietly amassed one of the best winning records in the history of the game and the San Diego Padres made it to the World Series. The Yankees had it all pitching, hitting, defense and power. The Padres were no match for this ream and got swept. It is arguable whether this was the greatest Yankee team I ever witnessed. The 1961 Yankees behind the home run power of Mantle and Maris and the piych of Ford an Arroyo were certainly up there even if the won-loss record was not quite a match. I would say one of these two Yankee teams was the best ever. I know some will say the 1927 Yanks were.
This 1998 series is not a very exciting series as the Yankees ran away with it. But it is a treat to look at it just to remember how great they were.』

Even though i was not able to test if in real winter conditions, i had a chance to use it overnight and during day time. It warms up pretty fast and the smell that everybody is speaking about is not so horrible. It gave little bit of odor and that was it. While using it, the trick is to find your settings. And I would suggest thinking twice before leaving it on at night, as works so effectively that you might wake up in Miami. Also, i didn't use the ComforTemp button, as to switches and turn dialer are enough. As of the day i haven't had any problems and recommend this product for its qualities and price. People who used it for a longer time can tell more about durability and long usage problems (i doubt if there are any).

The visual effects -- the "visual achievement" part -- have obviously profited from the technological developments of the years following the first film. There is eye candy galore here and for silly folks like me who love watching things blow up in spectacular and impossible ways, there simply is not enough icy coke and popcorn in the world to ever get tired of watching this multi-layered spectacle.
But the story-telling -- the "narrative achievement" -- is the real jaw dropper. Now, granted, this will not qualify as your over the top, academically significant, shrieking franco-european existential angst driven piece of "important" film making. But there is some very real story telling going on here that (a) takes it for granted that the audience is not stupid (which was a real problem for some movie critics when this was first released into theatres) (b) and as a result, unapologetically spins out multiply interlaced lines of story that collide, interfere, reflect and refract with one another. So confident are the story-tellers that they stampede over our expectations at the end, and do so with such meticulous and merciless care that it works in a way that could not have worked otherwise.
Oh, and as with the first movie in particular, do be sure to stick it out until the end of the credits for the "Easter Egg".』
(A truly awful film; complete waste of time) 『This is a dreadful film, even worse than the second installment, which was a big letdown after the first sparkling version. It is overly long, boring, slow moving despite the action, and a messy plot there is no point in trying to summarize. Given the Disney pedigree I can imagine kids squirming incessantly to this turkey. Here they've taken every sort of sea legend from the Flying Dutchman (without a Dutchman) to Davy Jones in a multicultural stew that doesn't see much of the Caribbean, but from Singapore to the Arctic in a convoluted mess. You have the frequent slaughter of British sailors and soldiers and the girl gets elected "king" of the pirates in a thoroughly ridiculous role. There's too little of Johnny Depp to save this picture. Gone is the wit and humor of the first movie. Worse, the spookiness and magic is totally absent as the Davy Jones crew becomes routinized into surface creatures engaged in ordinary battle. It says something that the best performer in the movie is a monkey. I hope this is mercifully the end to what began with a very charming film.』

The action, largely revolving around a pirate alliance against the ruthless East India Trading Company, doesn't disappoint, though the violence is probably too harsh for young children. Through it all, the plucky cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush) are buffeted by battle, maelstroms, betrayal, treachery, a ferocious Caribbean weather goddess, and that gnarly voyage back from the world's end--but with their wit intact. As always, Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow tosses off great lines ; he chastises "a woman scorned, like which hell hath no fury than!" He insults an opponent with a string of epithets, ending in "yeasty codpiece."!
In the previousThe Curse of the Black Pearl, Sparrow was killed--sent to Davy Jones' Locker. In the opening scenes, the viewer sees that death has not been kind to Sparrow--but that's not to say he hasn't found endless ways to amuse himself, cavorting with dozens of hallucinated versions of himself on the deck of the Black Pearl. But Sparrow is needed in this world, so a daring rescue brings him back. Keith Richards' much ballyhooed appearance as Jack's dad is little more than a cameo, though he does play a wistful guitar. But the action, as always, is more than satisfying, held together by Depp, who, outsmarting the far-better-armed British yet again, causes a bewigged commander to muse: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?" On the DVD Here's something you can't say about just any DVD extras: There appears to bemoreof Keith Richards in the outtakes, interviews, and other special features on theAt World's Enddisc than in the actual film. For those scenes alone, this special edition is well worth the price. Richards looks as woozy and gamey as all the rumors suggested, and answers questions he's not asked, with Johnny Depp sitting next to him, almost acting as a translator. Richards offers pithy comments like, "Everything I do is original, you better believe," and smiles when other cast members call him "Two-Take Richards" for supposedly nailing his scenes.
The packed second disc also includes a terrific mini-doc on how the filmmakers created the famous maelstrom, in an enormous hanger in Palmdale, California, with the ships floating 30 feet off the ground. "Just moving theBlack Pearlwas an enormous undertaking," says producer Jerry Bruckheimer with serious understatement. Other cool extras include "Tale of the Many Jacks," deleted scenes with great commentary, "The World of Chow Yun-Fat," a bio of composer Hans Zimmer, features on the set designers, a look at the impressive Brethren Court, and some hilarious bloopers. I have an iMac with TimeMachine, and this drive was purchased to hold the TimeMachine data. Being that it is a backup device, and that TimeMachine runs periodically at regular intervals, the drive has been powered up virtually 24/7 since it was installed.
I partitioned the drive into two segments. Mysteriously, about two weeks ago, one of the volumes disappeared. I ran Disk Utility and TechTools on it, and the reports said that it could not be repaired. So I erased it (without zeroing out the data). Last week, I was astonished to see that the volume had somehow been resurrected without me doing a darn thing to it - there it was, back again, with all the data still on it. Very odd.
About the same time that the volume disappeared, I began having problems with my Mac freezing up if left unattended for a while. This is also very odd, I have never had that sort of problem with a Mac. I actually had to resort to shutting it down when I walked away to prevent the freezes - logging out didn't even work. Disk Utility and TechTools reported that both the iMac drive and the external drive were fine. I have not downloaded anything funky from the Internet. Hmmmm...
Yesterday I decided to try simply unplugging the external drive's USB, just to see what would happen. Sur-prise, sur-prise, no more iMac freezing up. So, obviously, there is a problem with the external drive.
Unfortunately, my whole year's worth of backup data is now history, literally. I am now in the process of erasing the external drive, zeroing out the data (this takes awhile on a 1T drive!), and will try it again as a backup device to see if the problem merely was corrupted files. This solution may be extreme, but there's not much else to do if the utilities can't find anything to fix.
All in all, this is a cheap drive, and you get what you pay for. It did last longer for me than it did for some other folks, so I suppose that I shouldn't be too harsh. However, one would expect an Iomega product to be more reliable. Will update this review regarding whether erasing the disk and starting over solved the problem.

(Good HD at a Good Value) 『Had this about a month now and it's doing the job, quietly and consistently. I use this mainly for my iTunes. I have a massive collection and filled up a Maxtor terabyte HD. Or just about; it's still my back-up with about 10GB of space left. But I'll soon have to get another 1.5 TB and won't hesitate to get another of these for the task. It's a tad slower than I'm used to with the Maxtor (which has Firewire for my Mac), but I'll get used to it. Patience is a virtue. And it doesn't seem completely compatible with the sleep function (light stays on, unlike the Maxtor). But these are minor quibbles. I now have peace of mind with all my music safely in 2 locations, and the attendant hard work I've put into it cataloging everything. Not to mention all the artwork not available from iTunes (which anyway is quite often flat-out wrong) for rarities, etc. Reformatting it for Mac was a snap with the clear instructions provided. Wish it had a Firewire option, though...』

(Good Drive, but won't boot with win7) 『Overall, this drive works well. Great construction, good looks, and quiet drive. I bought this to store all my data when upgrading to Win7. Bad news was that my OS wouldn't boot if the drive was hooked up and on. The boot sequence would stall until I flipped the power off on the drive (GREAT feature by the way - a power switch - most ext HDs don't have that). Then the boot sequence would continue and I could turn the drive right back on. I've got a new Dell that's less than a year old. Not sure why this is a problem. Tried finding the "legacy usb" option to turn off in the BIOS, but it's not in the dell bios. This could be a Dell problem, but I haven't been able to experiment with a different brand HD. Great drive, but watch out for compatibility with Dell desktops.

Some of that might have to do with the printer cleaning its print head automatically but I suspect that the ink just sloooowly drains out over time. In conclusion - the ink is more expensive than you might think unless you use the printer a lot and then the leakage/evaporation/print-head cleaning becomes a minor consideration.』

mounting hardware, though lightweight plastic, is sturdy and reliable
NAVTEQ mapping software seems to be incredibly accurate, recognizes what road you are driving on from country lanes to interstates and everything in-between
routing engine for navigating seems to be very accurate most of the time, the route the GPS calculates is always the shortest distance
traffic information feature is excellent and very useful
other features such as lane assist and 3-D rendering are very nice
Con's
have not been able to load 2010 mapping update to the GPS
bluetooth feature does not work with LG cell phone
advertisements are necessary evil that comes with traffic feature though the pop-ups do not block mapping screens

(Watch what you receive from Amazon) 『I ordered a brand new 765T, even though I had the option of buying a refurbished one. What I received was even worse than a refurbished unit. It wasn't even reset back to factory settings before it was shipped out. It still had addresses, phone numbers, driving log, and Home location still in the unit!
When I wrote to Amazon about it, they replied "I apologize for this mix-up during packing, and for the fact that the Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator you received did not appear to be in new condition."
"Did not appear to be in new condition"?!?! Like I couldn't determine that it was used and broken?! It most certainly WAS NOT in new condition AND the touch screen did not work properly. The registration/calibration of the screen is unpredictable. I assume that is the reason it was originally returned. But to send it out as "NEW" and not even reset or repair it is unconscionable!
Even the replacement that I received has issues with the touch screen. I wish there was a way to calibrate the screen on your own! 』

(Garmin was better than the TomTom) 『I couldn't decide between the TomTom XL 340S and the Garmin nuvi 765T. So I bought both and compared them with extensive on-the-road testing. I preferred the Garmin. Here is how they compared:
Garmin advantages: - Nicer looking maps. They were more readable, plus I liked the map perspective better. The Garmin lets you see more surrounding streets from a perspective that seems to be "higher up" than the TomTom's 3D perspective - Much better text-to-speech. The Garmin pronounced most street names very well. The TomTom was amazingly bad! About one-third of the street names were so badly pronounced that, if I didn't know what the street name was, I would not have figured it out. The whole point of my purchase was to upgrade from an older TomTom that didn't have text-to-speech capability, so I decided that good text-to-speach was a critical factor. The TomTom XL 340S was full of all sorts of weird speech mannerisms, like saying "turn right at exit four hundred and fourteen" instead of "turn right at exit four-fourteen". - More ergonomic user iterface. Fewer taps on the Garmin screen needed to accomplish things. Easier to zoom in or out on the map. - Better point-of-interest database. The Garmin's ability to search for businesses, and the superior way that the Garmin displays results, won hands down. I think the TomTom's point-of-interest categories might be tuned to the way Europeans think, but not me. - Free traffic information. I don't expect this feature will often prove to be really beneficial, but you never know. If it saves me 20 minutes of travel time four or five times during the life of the product, that would be worth something to me.
TomTom advantages: - Announces the upcoming turn farther in advance than the Garmin. Sometimes the Garmin would tell me to turn one second before -- or sometimes even AFTER -- I arrived at the intersection. This mostly happened during testing when I tried to appear lost, going in circles. It never happened on the highway. - Louder speaker. The Garmin speaker volume is marginal, whereas the TomTom speaker was really booming. I decided I could live with the Garmin's speaker. If I ever need really booming volume (say, during a thunderstorm, or when I'm driving on an unusually noisy road surface), I can use the Garmin's ability to broadcast over FM radio, or I could plug a cassette adapter into the Garmin's audio-out port. Both alternatives worked very well.
I'm sure the Garmin marketing managers reading this post will wonder why I didn't mention all the other features the Garmin has -- for example, playing MP3 files -- but those features are of no value to me. I've got an iPod for music, I am buying a GPS for directions.

Good sound for the price (I paid 18 bucks). Great bass, especially. Medium comfort for me, but your mileage may vary. Died a slow, agonizing death within a month of purchase.

They "isolate" noise very well. I had to take one bud out of your ear if you want to talk to someone, even with no music playing. I hope that doesn't bother you.
They're loud. That is to say, it hurt my ears above 40% on my computer, and I would routinely crank my previous headphones and earphones to 100 for long periods of time. With these, you'll never keep hitting the "increase volume" button out of frustration again, even on a noisy subway.
Great bass. Even after boosting the bass frequencies 6-9 decibels, the bass was clear. At higher volumes, it almost rattled. Treble didn't slack off either. These earphones were a large sound improvement over my favorite $40 headphones (some Sony ones--I forget the model).
They're not the most comfortable, at least for me. I think I have incredibly average-sized ear canals, but even with the extremely medium-sized rubber tips attached (it comes with small, medium, and Bigfoot-sized), the darn left earbud kept falling out. I'd just sit there and it would slowly work its way out, making rubbing noises as it went. Not fun. Of course, you will most likely have a completely unique experience.
After a few days of break-in, I think the bass really mellowed out. But the treble and midrange were still very nice. It was at this time that it felt like I was slowly going deaf in my left ear. The left ear bud just kept getting quieter and quieter. To compensate, I would move the balance to the left. This continued very slowly for a couple weeks. Right now, with the pan set at 96% to the left, it's still biased to the right, and I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to having the sound properly balanced. And even at 100% volume, I can hardly hear any sound. I wish I knew what caused that. It's mildly ridiculous, and the reason for the one star review.
These buds have died, and only after less than a month. I spent quite a while looking around for my warranty information with no luck. I think these buds would have been a pretty good value if they, you know, worked, but I won't be buying a replacement pair.
