『Whaddya want for 20 bucks? This thing works fine. If you are a coffee nut then spend more and get something better. Only one complaint: the cord is 27". I guess that would be an advantage if you happen to have an outlet in the right place. As for the cleaning difficulties that some people complained about, a damp paper towel does the job.』

However, it does not grind very evenly and although I clean it fairly regularly per instructions, it produces an odd smell, almost like burning coffee.

I would recommend it to individuals just starting to grind their own coffee or looking for convenient travel-sized units (it does require an outlet, however), but not to more experienced coffee drinkers or those looking for high quality.』

『I bought this for grinding spices. The price is good, with free shipping, and the grinding compartment seems superior to my old Cuisinart. With my old grinder, the mostly plastic blade disintegrated after limited use. Nothing worse then ground plastic in your food. As with every grinder I've used, for coffee or spices, there's a static buildup and the grounds prefer to stay in the grounds compartment. Not really sure how to prevent that. A paint brush type of tool helps to remove all of the contents, but some do tend to remain. As such, I would not use a grinder for both spices and coffee. The blade seems to be mostly metal, which hopefully translates to an extended blade life.』

『I am concerned that it is made of fiberglass with a thin coating of silicone.

Fiberglass is considered a health hazzard and once inside the body, it can't be removed. It says not to cut it (good idea since the fiberglass is in the middle) however, cutting up dough, a slip of the knife....

I don't know, it just seems crazy to use fiberglass for food preparation.

『Rolling out tricky pastry like pie crust is not so bad on a standard counter top, but this mat improves the experience enough to be well worth the price. If you own this threaded type of silicon mat for baking, which I also highly recommend, you know exactly what to expect. This mat is just a huge version. Just for fun, I tried to stick it in the oven and found it was too big, though it might be used for that purpose in a commercial size oven. However, its purpose is to create a non-stick work surface that is easy to clean up, and it does that with style. The size is perfect for most projects, including pretty big pastry, and will probably be almost oversized for candy making. If you don't need something this big or don't have room for it, the standard silicone cooking mat from this brand or other (Exopat, Silpat, etc.) should be a better fit.

As others mentioned, the tacky nature of the mat keeps it from skidding, while the nonstick nature allows the use of less flour. The only real caveat is that it can't be used with a knife, though a pastry knife has not harmed mine. Otherwise, this is the perfect tool for common kitchen tasks and I love using it.』

『The Philadelphia Brass Ensemble's "A Festival of Carols in Brass" (Adrew Kazdin's 1991 music transfer to CD from the 1967 Adam&Davies original) remains a classic for Christmas music lovers. I was delighted to recently find it at Amazon.

These "25 Favorite Christmas Carols" feature the most presented and memorial Yule time tunes, from "Deck the Halls" to "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". One hears "Good King Wenceslas", "Joy to the World", "O Holy Night", "Silent Night" and all the rest played with the announcement and bold delivery that only brass can bring. Trombones, baritones, French horns, bugles, coronets, trumpets- they are all here! You will want to sing along with all this brass.

Each piece is exquisite and comfortably tailored for Christmas activity. This CD makes excellent background holiday party music. It plays for a little over an hour. "A Festival of Carols in Brass" is recommended to everyone wishing to offer the musical joy of this holy season.

(Fantastic CD with all the popular Christmas tunes)

『This is by far one of the best Christmas CD's. Like the other reviewers have said, "you feel as though a Salvation Army band is playing right outside your window". All the popular Christmas tunes are done with perfect precision and pitch. As a fellow (but amateur) musician, this CD makes me want to get out my old school band trumpet and play along.

It is truely amazing that the Philadelphia Brass Ensemble is just 5 guys - (2) trumpets, (1) french horn, (1) trombone, (1) tuba.

You can't go wrong with this classic CD. It's incredible - you have to hear it to believe it.

『This is one of the darker clay-mated films that can be enjoyed by those who relish (or don't) in this sort of genre. Adapted by the famous children's novel by Roald Dahl, the story tells of James, whose parents were killed by a mysterious rhinoceros. He lives with two cruel aunts named Spiker and Sponge, who do nothing but verbally abuse him ever since he has moved in with them. On a typical summer day, James comes a cross a stranger who gives him a bag of "crocodile tongues." These tongues are important, as the stranger tells James that these will help him find happiness. Unexpectedly, James trips and falls, sending these tongues into the roots of a peach tree. Within moments, a particular peach grows until it becomes the size of a two-story house. With the aunts making money off of this strange phenomenon, James finds himself inside the core of the peach, where insects living inside have also evolved. A centipede, grasshopper, spider, ladybug, and earthworm become his friends. What comes next is a fantastic adventure, as James and friends are on their way (through sky and water) to New York City to find happiness.

The clay-mation here is wonderful. It's almost as astounding as the animation in The Nightmare Before Christmas. There's both beauty and ugliness (when required) all around. I've read the original Dahl novel, and it was nice to see these characters brought to life (though I expected the grasshopper to be a bit different than he was in the actual film). The songs here are quite forgettable; practically none of them are very enjoyable to listen to. But there are few songs here, so they're not too distracting. And finally, keep in mind, as little kids may be frightened at some creepy images such as the rhinoceros. This is still a lovely family film to boot. I can easily recommend it to anyone.』

『The movie was cute, I had never seen it before and I purchased it because my Grandaughters are in the play at college and I wanted to see their parts, and compare the play to the movie.』

(Colorful, Inventive Dahl Adaptation)

『Here's another inventive film, based on a book by the famous author of child books, Roald Dahl, who wrote "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory."

The animation, featuring stop-action stick figures, is outstanding, as are the colors. Each character is unique, like none I've seen before in other animated flicks. Not only the characters, but how they are dressed. (i.e. long gloves and stockings on a spider). The aunts in here are a real hoot to look at, particularly the one with the pronounced teeth.

The storyline is simple and there is absolutely nothing offensive. The only warning I would give is there is a bit too much violence for very small kids and the ending is a bit silly for adults.

This is a musical, and the songs are nothing special. There are not a lot of them: five to be exact. In all, good entertainment and a good visual and audio film for a nice DVD system. Boy, I'd like to see what this looks like on Blu-Ray!』

(Nearly-forgotten teen holiday movie)

『A good third of THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT occurs at Christmas time. Because it's set in NYC, we see the tree in Rockefeller Center and other festive Manhattan decorations. There's a holiday party at the home of a well-to-do couple (they have a lush white tree with green ornaments) while at a single mom's flat the family's humble tree sits off in a corner of the living room.

The film stars Peter Sellers, but his is a peripheral character. Also in the cast are Paula Prentiss (small role in first half-hour), Tom Bosley, Angela Lansbury and Phyllis Thaxter. The leads in this story are really two unknown 14-year-olds: Tippy Walker as 'Val' and Merrie Spaeth as 'Gil.'

Val looks like the youngest Brady girl with her blonde pigtails while Gil is more sophisticated. She has a genius IQ and plays beautiful piano. Gil becomes infatuated with a mediocre concert pianist (Sellers) and the two girls follow him all over Manhattan. The story's more complex than that, for it's really about these kids' friendship and Gil's troubled family life.

Henry Orient is an odd character-- he doesn't like to practice and it shows in his performances. After a Christmas night concert at Carnegie Hall, several members of the audience hang by the stage door so they can jeer and boo him, like they would a ballplayer who muffed a catch. Henry's a playboy and a paranoid coward-- and those are a couple of his better traits!

This quirky George Roy Hill picture is a thoughtful family story that deals with holiday depression, divorce and especially the concerns of adolescent girls.

『This most charming coming-of-age comedy, based on the novel of the same name by Nora Johnson, is an overlooked gem which I sincerely hope starts to become more widely-known. Although Peter Sellers is top-billed in the cast (and plays the title role) by no means however is the star of the show.

THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT is the story of two misfit teen girls: Marian (Merrie Spaeth) and Valarie (Elizabeth "Tippy" Walker). Marian lives with her divorced mother and a close family friend in a cosy apartment; Valarie's globe-trotting parents rarely bother her, and she lives with a housekeeper. Their friendship is sealed when Valarie develops a crush on a handsome, avant-garde pianist named Henry Orient (Peter Sellers) and the two girls resolve to follow--ie: stalk--him all over New York. This hero worship, which mainly involves the girls standing outside his apartment block wearing Chinese coolie hats, soon scares off Henry's latest 'married' girlfriend (Paula Prentiss) and wreaks havoc on his performance schedule!

A charming, bittersweet comedy, THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT is no "Pink Panther"--nor does it pretend to be--but offers it's own special brand of low-key magic. Angela Lansbury plays Valarie's icy, calculating mother, who contrasts dramatically with the down-to-earth members of Marian's loving household (Phyllis Thaxter and Bibi Osterwald). (A Gem of a Movie - A Treasure)

『From its beginning as a first book by the young Nora Johnson, daughter of the great screenwriter, Nunnally Johnson, "The World of Henry Orient" was a labor of love for all who worked on it. Nora's father adapted the book into a screenplay, and then the excellent director, George Roy Hill, transformed it into one of the better movies ever made.
I'm so glad this movie was made at the right time (1964), when cinema still relied on a good story, well told. I firmly believe this film couldn't, or wouldn't, be made today. Hollywood, with a few outstanding exceptions, now seems content to churn out major productions built on formulaic plots, infantile characters, and sophomoric dialogue. But that wasn't the case in 1964, and it certainly wasn't the case in "The World of Henry Orient."
Every aspect of this film is exceptional. The cinematography, with its innovative camera angles, beautifully depicts the special world of the two girls, and is in absolute sync with the script. It also presents a lovely panorama of New York City before its decay. You can watch "The World of Henry Orient" for its scenic selections and camera work alone, and learn more than in most modern movies.
The scenes depicting the changes of the seasons are, for example, carefully correlated with what is happening emotionally in the script. They also show how time changes the girls and their world.
Listen to the movie's score: There is a lovely melody depicting the spirit of the two girls and the passing of time. When the movie gets darker, more solemn orchestration overlays the primary score, but it is never abandoned. It lurks beneath the overlay, ready to break out. The director uses music in the film to tell us something about the inherent optimism and resilience of youth.
The script is rich in depth and texture. It presents a lovely picture of the emotions and innocent fantasies of the two girls adolescent world, and then shows what happens when that world is intruded upon by the petty and sordid behavior of some of the adults in the movie. The masterful blending of these opposing worlds creates a light, airy comedy that is also a poignant drama. It is very rare for one production to combine so many of the elements a great film should have, but "The World of Henry Orient" does.
You won't find better acting than in "The World of Henry Orient." Mr. Hill allows Tippy Walker and Merrie Spaeth the freedom to create their charming characters, and they do so magnificently. These two young actors almost steal the show from some of the finest performers of our time. It is a credit to the director that each character in the movie is perfectly drawn and marvelously performed.
Thank you, Angela Lansbury, for beautifully playing what must have been a hideous role to perform. Bravo, Tom Bosley, for perfectly portraying a father who has aquired everything but the wisdom to receive his daughter's love.
I will forever smile when I think of the wonderfully phony Peter Sellers, and I will always treasure the most lovely Paula Prentiss' marvelous depiction of a neurotic on steroids. Thank you Phyllis Thaxter, Bibi Osterwald, John Fielder, Al Lewis, Peter Duchan, and many others for your fine acting. Oh, when you watch the film, look for the cameo appearance by Jack Benny; he is one of the members of the ochestra.
"The World of Henry Orient" will always hold a most special place in my heart. The girls will always be young. Peter Sellers will never cease pursuing the marvelous Paula Prentiss, and Tom Bosley will forever just have learned how to be a father to his child.
What I really wanted to say in this review is thanks to all of you who gave us this treasure. You did an outstanding job, and you can be very proud of what you created. And you did it in 1964.

『My 16 month old is in love with Elmo and this is one of the many videos of Elmo's World we own. It is not a movie like "Grouch Land" so if you are looking for something with a story line, this is not the DVD for you. Yes, Elmo's voice is high pitched and can be annoying for adults but for whatever reason, he captivates both of my kids--even my 4 year old! And I never have to worry about the content being rude or inappropriate like some cartoons on some cable stations.』

『My twin boys are almost a year old and we have most of the Elmo's World DVDs. If your kids like Elmo, and most seem to, The Great Outdoors is a good one to have. My boys LOVE this one. They kick and laugh while watching Elmo, the other puppets, and even dumb Mr. Noodle. They enjoy the part in the beginning where Elmo introduces the wild animals. They also like it when Elmo counts, but their favorite section is the one on fishes, especially when Dorothy imagines Elmo as different types of fishes.

I am surprised that a reviewer said this one scared her child. Maybe it would be worth trying it again. We have never had that problem and one of our boys startles easily. The tornado does have a silly voice, but not bad. It says "you can't play outside when I'm around."

This disc always holds their attention and makes them smile. I recommend it. I wish they liked the others as much. Our boys' other favorites are: Pets; Food, Water&Exercise; Flowers, Bananas&more; Reach for the Sky, and Sing Yourself Silly.』

『Hmmm. Well, some people love Elmo, some people hate him. My daughter kind of likes him, although I try and keep exposure to a minimum... I'm an old-school Sesame Street fan, but I've always loathed Elmo's super-cutesiness and vacuuous presentation. This video is okay -- there is some admirable educational content, but jeez, is Elmo whiny. And at some point in every episode there'd come a moment when I could swear I could hear my kid's brain cells popping. It's hard to find intelligent, inoffensive, unscary, nonviolent media for toddlers to enjoy, and with Elmo, I'd say two out of four ain't bad... On balance, I'd say this disc -- like other "Elmo's World" videos -- has its merits, but there are parts of it that are a little insulting to the intelligence of little viewers. Parents might want to preview it first, not because it's scary or whatever, but just to see if it's really what they want to have flooding their kid's mind. I finally decided it was too dumb, and am looking for better material. "Little Bear," maybe?』

(Great if you get a recent model - but there are multiple versions of this product)

『Beware that there are multiple revisions of this surge protector. The first 2 I got came in fairly old school packaging (boring blue box, no mention of equipment warranty) and they did not work very well. Within a few days usage the sensitive adjustment would keep on decreasing its effectiveness until basically the unit was on all the time regardless of the power draw.

The third one I got came in a blue/green box with a slick logo and a mention of the equipment warranty - it works great! It's really fantastic and once calibrated it works perfectly with my PC whether it is a low power sleep mode or a complete power down. The manual does mention that some of the internal specifications are different, but other than that there are no model number difference or physical markings that I can see which would different the old versus the new model.

It is sort of a gamble on Amazon if you will get the new version; the ones I got were purchased around 10/2009 and hopefully the inventory moves fast.』

『For the most part, I am very happy with this product. The testing that I have completed thus far had this power strip connected to a laptop docking station. This unit does indeed save energy, but the docking station power draw is so small that it is difficult to set the on/off adjustment so that the controlled outlets remain on when the laptop is on and off when the laptop is off. I am currently testing it on a desktop machine, and am having no such difficulties. All in all, it works as advertised.』

(Simple way to kill power to a problem TV set)

『This device works wonderfully in my situation; a wonderful TV set that has a troubled standby mode. My television searches for updates to cable channels. Constantly. With a LOUD high pitched whine. As long as it is plugged into power. The issue is that I don't watch broadcast or cable TV of any kind, and as a result it isn't hooked up to an antenna or cable. As the TV cannot /find/ any signals, it remains in autopgramming standby as long as it is plugged in and not fully on. (This is an issue with this discontinued Phillips TV.)

This simple device, with the TV on one of the power dependent outlets, allows me to easily kill power to it when our home reciever isn't on. A far cheaper solution than ditching an otherwise wonderful movie/game room TV. I'm not convinced that it does much to reduce our power bills, but it is an effective solution for devices that don't handle standby mode well.

The unit worked right out of the box, but also has a potentiometer that can easily be adjusted to dial in the sensitivity on the controlling powerport. This might be necessary for a controlling device that doesn't draw a lot of power. Keep that in mind.

Easily a 4.5 purchase, with half a point deducted due to the garrish bright red and blue on some of the switches. I'm glad it is hidden behind a large mahoghany cabinet.』

I read all the reviews and the ones that are disappointed with this product seem to be using it beyond its design - for very small 3-Cup max jobs this is your tool... I read another review that said they love it as a beginner FP - I couldn't agree more!

It may not be worth the 50.00 but when they sell it on special for like 35.00 - then pick it up - that is what I did and I am happy with it.

My intensions were to use the heck out of it and let my 9 yr old, who loves to cook, use it as a learning tool to become a better baker... And for that we are very pleased!
