Digital Manga
Usually ships in 1 to 2 months customer 's review (Not the best volume in the series, but it sets things up for the grand finale) First and foremost I want to talk about the translation. Karen McGillicuddy lends a new set of eyes to the OtRFK series, replacing Duane Johnson from two of the previous volumes. I'm not sure where the quality change came from, but this translation is the most cohesive, clear, flowing and consistent of the series thus far. There are still typographical errors, but they are few and far between, and don't distract the eye the way they did in previous volumes. The poetically descriptive writing style is vastly toned down in this volume, giving way to a more clean and straightforward means of describing situations and events (there were far fewer "from the bottom of his heart"'s in this book, which honestly was a pleasant change). I'm not sure if this is a change in the nature of the adaptation, or a change in Kannagi's writing style, but I list it as a plus.
Secondly, the illustrations were done again by Hotaru Odagiri, and as always, her style is typical "shojo pretty," however, there were only four illustrations in the whole book, and while they were spaced a bit better to match the events they depicted, they were still a page or two off.
Thirdly, there is only one love scene in this entire 250+ page book (far outnumbering the pagecount of the first two books and about matching the third). This isn't a "make or break" sort of issue, because as it was written (or perhaps as it was adapted) the scene is far more tangible than offerings of previous volumes, which seemed too keen on flowery allusions than actual descriptions of what was actually happening. If this is an indication of how these scenes will play out in the fifth and final volume (in hopefully greater numbers) I'll be quite thrilled to read it when it comes out.
As for the book itself, get ready for an angst-fest. This volume of OtRFK is a total downer, from the brooding to the misunderstandings to the underhanded plotting (and not just by Kazuki's brother this time). Wataru spends an inordinate amount of time waffling about his relationship, not with Kazuki whom he is more devoted to than ever, but with Masanobu. He knows he needs to break it off cleanly, not only to settle the jealousy of his boyfriend, but to ease the suffering of his upperclassman and friend, but he just can't seem to separate his own fear of being the "bad guy" for pushing Asaka away and hurting him by breaking his heart once and for all. Things aren't helped when Kazuki finally spills all the beans about his former "strictly speaking" girlfriend, now awaiting serious surgery in America alone. Bring in Masanobu's hot-headed over-protective younger brother and Shohei's usual scheming to try and break the couple up, and this volume is an exercise in misery. The cliffhanger that was predistined to lead into the final volume of this series doesn't help to assuage any reader's feelings.
But that's not to say that this book isn't worth reading. If you are as emotionally invested in this story and these characters as I have been through this long ride of inconsistent English localizations and predictable plot-points, you are already in too deep to back out now. This is a full-steam-ahead to the finish storyline and you are not going to regret the ride. For anyone considering picking this story up from this fourth volume, I honestly would not recommend it. Unless you are, indeed, heavily emotionally invested in Yuichi, Wataru and their forbidden love for each other, you are probably going to have a hard time getting past the angst in this volume or feeling even the least bit sympathetic to their problems. Best to start from the beginning (or the manga) and see if it is even worth it to you to come this far in the first place.
Studying hard for his exams, Wataru, trying to be accepted into college so he can live with Yuichi in spring. But on the day of his exam, Yuichi decides to leave for New York to be with his old lover for his surgery. Wataru tries to be supportive and sends him off but he can't help himself being insecure. While waiting for his return, Asaka makes a move and offers his kindness to ease his feelings. Rerations < Only the Ring Finger Knows, Vol. 4 >

(Even better than volume 1)
(Great yaoi (M/M) manga... but beware: this edition suffered some censorship....) I just finished reading volume 2 and it was really great. It was nice to know more about Yanagi's past now if only they didn't remove those pages.
This is one of those yaoi manga that makes me want more. I love Arata and Yanagi. They make such a great pair. Even though, the first volume had more sex scenes, I ended up enjoying this one a bit more. I guess it is because the first volume was mainly about them having sex but now that they are both confused about their feelings, it makes it even more interesting. And now that Takashi found out their dirty little secret, I wonder what will happen.
It seems the next volume will be packed and more interesting now that more characters are showing up. What will happen now that Kashiwagi has shown up? I bet he will stir some trouble between the two lovers. Can't wait and see what will happen.
Like I said in my comment to the previous review, I believe that this is one of the best yaoi series ever published. If people think volume 1 is good, volume 2 is even better! I don't want to spoil anything, but in volume 2, the plot thickens as Yanagi's past catches up to him just as he and Arata are getting closer! Ten's evil character is revealed, and he definitely has something up his sleeve... The drama unfolds in this volume, and I can't wait to get my hands on volume 3!
The artwork is truly magnificent, as usual, and the translation is very well done, which makes the story flow smoothly. The color art (cover and insert) is beautiful. There's a short little extra story at the end about the twin's childhood that totally captures the dynamic of their relationship and the true nature of Ten/Takashi.
And yes, there is censorship in this volume, but trust me, you won't even notice it. I think the publisher did a wonderful job maintaining the author's intent while still keeping within the law.
Overall, a must have for all yaoi lovers! For all those who enjoyed Breath -volume 1, the second volume is probably going to be a "must-have" no matter what. The plot and art are as engaging as in the first volume. The ending is a cliffhanger and will leave you wanting for more / volume 3 (scheduled to appear this summer). There is less sex SHOWN in this edition of volume 2 (see why below) as compared to volume 1, but the book still has "mature / 18+" rating stated on it. I surely loved Breath 1, so I had high expectations for this volume. Mostly, it didn't disappoint, my only issue (and hence, 4 stars instead of a well-deserved 5-star rating) is the fact of the censorship of this American edition. I must admit the editors were really upfront about it: the last page reads: "To comply with the laws of the United States, this work has been edited from the original version. Two pages were removed...". Then they give verbal script of what happened on those 2 pages (without any visuals). One of the characters supposedly had sex on those 2 pages, and was probably around 14-15 years at that point. Now, the issues I have are: 1) What exact "laws of the United States" do the editors have in mind? They should have been more specific, so other manga / book publishers would know too. Because if there are indeed such "laws", most of other manga publishers probably have violated them by now (with all those tons of "high-school-boy-love stories" out there...). 2) Sorry, but I just hate censorship in any form. If the book indeed contains anything illegal (or editors are just not comfortable with it / scared about readers' reaction), then do not publish it at all. I personally do not want to read anything even remotely illegal if it really IS. Pick some other Japanese yaoi to publish. The second volume was published in Japan in 2004, well before Yaoi Generation (American publisher) got their license, so it's not like they didn't know. Or did the laws change between the time the American publisher got their license for this series? It must be a very recent law, indeed. 3) If it's illegal to publish something - why to give us "script" about what happened on those censored pages? The whole context and especially fairly racy script make it quite obvious that there was underage sex there. (And note that page 1 of volume 1 featured the "pre-view" of that same censored scene - and it was NOT censored back then). Why is THAT all legal then, while THAT OTHER is not? Or is that unspecified law really that specific? I'm confused and somewhat disturbed by all this. 4) One of the the worst parts of all this is that the script and editorial comments were given at the end of the book. Now, when I was reading through the whole episode, I was actually somewhat perplexed. The main character is dreaming about how he met someone. It's a fairly normal meeting, with nothing particularly bad or horrible going on there. And all out of sudden, he wakes up in terror. Only 25 pages later, when I read "editorial notes" about their censorship on the last page of the book did I realize fully what was going on. Why not to place the explanation in place of the missing pages then, so at least a reader can understand what's going on? Don't get me wrong: by no means I "miss" those "cut out" pages. It's just I think that the publisher shouldn't have picked the manga in the first place if they're not comfortable with it (or if it's indeed unlawful). Censorship and democracy are mutually exclusive concepts. So, 5-stars to the manga author/artist, and 1 star to the publisher. (The book is quite nicely done after all; it has a color insert, and firm white pages).
P.S. At the time of this review, the Amazon states the book is "temporarily out of stock"; the book can be purchased through Yaoi Generation web-site directly. (I actually purchased it directly from Amazon via pre-order, and had no problem receiving it, regardless of what they say about its current unavailability in stock). Yanagi and Arata's encounter started off as a simple pick-up at a bar, but Arata - who balks at homosexual sex - upsets Yanagi to the point of being blackmailed into a sex-slave relationship. It is Arata's charming and innocent personality, however, that breaks through Yanagi's resolve, and deeper feelings begin to form between them. Just then, Yanagi's sex friend and Arata's younger twin brother, Takashi, notices Arata's strange behavior... Rerations < Breath: Volume 2 (yaoi manga) >

Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (A very cute pair! 4.5 stars) I am pleasantly surprised by this one. School boys love could get pretty typical sometimes but this one has a nice touch to it and the artwork is just lovely. Our boys are refreshing characters as we have an aggressive yet moody and worry wart uke here. Great to have an aggressive uke in sex once in a while. LOL! As for his seme, he is the adorable one as he is just clueless about his feelings yet so protective over his uke. The plot is light hearted and enjoyable as our uke is the son of an "ageman". So does that make him one too? And I like their friend who is the word of reasons in their relationship. And the last chapter is just so funny. A group of men arrive at Tasuku's school unexpectedly and label him as an "ageman". According to Japanese tradition an "ageman" brings good fortune to those who they sleep with! Before he knows it, Tasuku has more offers than he knows what to do wtih, but Tasuku has his sights set on only one... Rerations < Living For Tomorrow (Yaoi) (Yaoi Manga) >
