I can't believe I nabbed the first 3 volumes of this series in a bargain box for 9.99! I wasn't expecting much especially from the cover, but I figured if I didn't like them just trade them back in, but my goodness was I pleasantly surprised! Although I wasn't impressed with the art, the well paced and beautiful stories pulled me in. It is rare for me to look past the art in manga, and still find the artwork crude, sketchy and almost amatuerish, but the stories in Love Mode are well written, superbly paced and absolutely wonderful! I especially love volume 3 with Izumi and Arashi! This volume is a great end to the series - very romantic, and bittersweet. I really wish there was more! A definite must read for yaoi fans! Yuki Shimizu's signature title goes out on a somber yet emotional note. The story has come full circle from the questionable first meeting of Takamiya and Izumi, and the slow and steady bond built between Aoe and Naoya, to show us the events in the past which shaped what would allow for these beautiful relationships to finally find fruition. I'm sad to see the series end. I remember when I read the first volume it wasn't all that great (I took issue with the way Takamiya pretty much forced himself onto and into the life of Izumi), but I kept buying the subsequent volumes because it was so highly praised, and, well, at the time there was a much more limited availability of BL in English. I'm glad I stuck it out. The Aoe/Naoya arc alone was worth the read, but the fact that the story fleshed out so many more characters and told such a rich story was something that makes the difference in this series being "good" to being "great." The final volume of Love Mode focuses around the story of Shiki, the mysterious shadow that has haunted and been the long-lasting bond between Aoe and Takamiya. The story takes us to England, where a vacationing Aoe, escaping from the burden of his family and resigned fate, meets Takamiya and Shiki through a series of coincidences. They stay together in a bed and breakfast in the English countryside and form a bond of friendship that has a transforming effect on Aoe's bitter and tortured personality. Aoe finds in Takamiya a friend who shares the same burdens of family as his own and in Shiki he finds someone he can care for outside of that same burden. The resulting tragedies that unfold are carefully executed and the resolution of the characters, bringing the story back to the present and the now content lives of all involved, is nothing short of perfection. There are virtually no love scenes to be found in this volume, just one very tasteful and appropriate one towards the end. Shimizu even comments in the notes at the end of the book how she had wanted to include some in the extra story at the end, but decided not to because the rest of the story was so serious. I think I'll have to reread the whole series again now, however. There were a lot of characters mentioned in this volume that I am embarrassed to say I had trouble remembering. Even Shuhei was a blank for a couple of minutes, especially when they kept switching between his first and last name when addressing him. I don't regard wanting to reread the series a bad thing, though. I'm actually quite looking forward to it, even though I still have other, unread titles waiting for attention. This volume constitutes a fantastic finale to a fantastic series and I highly recommend it to anyone who has read the previous volumes. I highly recommend rereading the entire series anyway after finishing the last volume and re-experiencing all of the stories that made this such a rich and rewarding experience. A younger and more naive Aoe escaping his familial responsibilities in the countryside of England - sharing a simple bed-and-breakfast home with Takamiya and Shiki. While he can't deny his feelings for the happy-go-lucky Shiki, he still can't shrug off his duties to his family. Then, an unexpected event will rock his world forever. Yes this 2nd book was very good, hot and heavy, keep the main characters getting "closer" though only Rei would say that, Fujimaru would say it wasn't true all the way, even though he knows it is. This book I have to say was better than the 1st, but still not real sex!!!! Heck I'm starting to get frustrated and I'm not even Rei!!! I'm really hoping in the next one Rei finds a way to get Fujimaru to really say what he's feeling so they can get it on already! Oh my Gosh. I'm a 16 year old girl and I've looked at more yaoi then you could ever read in your life. And I am picky with it too! I only look at SasuNaru, but Mister Mistress hits the top! I love it when Fugimaru always says that he's refusing Rei....when his body is telling another story! Lol! And he was eating those jellyfish strips! "Holy Jellyfish strips!! What the hell?!" This is a must have yaoi manga! I give it 100 stars if I could! Might have to say it's better than SasuNaru.....just what I think^_^ God, I can't help cracking up everytime "Little Fujimaru" makes his appearance in this series! It's so cute...in a somewhat disturbing way ^_^ The second volume was no less better than the first with the same crackpot funny scenes and perverse jokes. Though I'm not one who normally, if at all, enjoys crude jokes, for some reason, Mister Mistress, didn't seem to bother me that much though it is full of perverse jokes and hijinks. This might be due to it's sheer comedic content which encourages one to just enjoy it without giving it too much thought. The artstyle is also quite modern and the ways in which Rei tricks Fujimaru into "feeding" him is just priceless. Definitely a series worth reading for laughs ^_^ The first chapter deals with Minato and a story about his older "idiot brother". It was a cute first chapter. The rest deals with Fujimaru and his growing discontentment with being a food source. From his thinking it would seem that he is sad because he believes Rei only thinks of him as a food source. The drawings are great at capturing Rei's eyes when Fujimaru tells Rei to leave him alone. They look so sad to me. Not to spoil too much but I was very pleased with volume and the introduction of Aira. This volume does leave at a nice point but will there be more volumes? One hopes because the story is still unresolved, mostly about Aira and Fujimaru's unconveyed feelings towards Rei. Hot incubus love! The steamy and hilarious relationship between the typically horny teenage boy, Fujimaru, and Rei, the incubus who feeds off of his erotic fantasies, continues! With Rei as his new teacher, it seems there will be no end to the constant sexual harassment he is subjected to at home and now at school. But after finding out that all he has to do is refuse Rei to erase him from his presence, will this mark the end of Rei's sexual pursuits and the end of Rei's life in the flesh as well? I love this book! The artist's drawing are beautiful. The plot is funny and the sex scenes are not over dramatic. Perfect for anyone who loves yaoi. Hiro and Nowaki advance their relationship to the point of more casual name-calling. Chaos continues to ensue between Misaki and Usami. What can happen next?
