(Great continuation of the outstanding yaoi (M/M) series: better than the first volume!)
『In this volume, the relationship between two main characters - blond naive Raizou and his quiet mysterious "paper doll" Kon - progresses and is beautifully drawn. Sex scenes are great (though no explicit frontal nudity), and there is a number of both emotionally touching scenes and genuinely humorous moments. I think that's what really sets Yuki Shimizu apart from many other manga-kas: she is a true master in combining light humorous scenes with the dramatic and darker ones. And her characters are surely sexy!
I'm really looking forward to the 801 Media localization of Ze 3 (scheduled to appear in August), and the quality of their edition and translation has been great so far. Based on my rudimentary understanding of the original Japanese edition, the next volume is going to focus on the relationship between two new characters (Genma and Himi), and it's going to be even steamier and sexier than Ze 2 (at least, to me). It is surely a darker and more dramatic volume as compared to Ze 1 and 2 (a warning to some sensitive readers: there will be non-con and rapes in Ze 3... Those who like more hardcore yaoi and/or yaoi with (mild) S&M elements will probably like it.)

(really amazing series)
『I have to admit I was really hesitant to start this series, but after reading this mangaka's 'Steal Moon' and 'Blue Sheep Reverie' series I had to pick this up. I am so glad I did...all three books are amazing. Not only are they hot, but they are full of characters that actually feel like they could be real people and not 'typical'. I loved the story and that made this yaoi so much more enjoyable.』

『I'm so glad that I tend to read my *other* piles of manga while waiting for series like this one to be completed. I read all three books of "Hero Heel" over the course of two days, I hated putting it down for even a second. There's so much tension and interesting character development that I had to grab for the next book as soon as I finished the one before it.

What I found unique about this series is that the characters changed and grew as it went on. The plot covers a year+ of their lives, and their development is on the page for us to actually see! Anyone who's been reading BL manga for a long time will understand why this is a wonderful and rare thing. And I chalk it all up to the fact that this series spanned three books, so the mangaka had the time and space to create a more fleshed-out story.

There is also a true sense of suspense in the plot. I really couldn't guess or spot how the love quadrangle would end up until the very, very end, and that is also a pleasant change of pace from the usual telegraphing many other BL plots give. Tension also builds for the characters' physical well-being. They are actors on an action TV series and the plot makes it clear from the start that the work is fairly dangerous.

Finally, the art - wow! The covers don't come close to doing justice to the interiors. Backgrounds are fully fleshed and varied, and the action sequences are fairly understandable. Yes, the TV series costumes look amazing in their variety and levels of detail. And the adult scenes, of which there are at least one per book, aren't bad either. Have I used the word "intense" yet? Well, there you go!

There's quite a bit of Makoto Tateno's work in English already, and while I like most of it, this series is definitely the pinnacle of her translated work - so far. Don't miss it! And don't buy one volume at a time - your hands will feel empty between purchases. ~_^』

『I had a very enjoyable time reading this whole series. I read this book in one sitting on a car trip, even though I get carsick easily. That's how good it was. I love Makoto Tateno's artwork in this series. The costumes on the tv show are amazing. I love Minami! Sawada is pretty awesome too! Although I was rooting for happy ending, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Katagiri. He was one of my favorite characters, perhaps because he was so unassuming. He was so generous and kind. He sort of got tossed to the wayside though. The sex scenes were the hottest yet in this series! Very gratifiying:) Overall five stars!』

『I really have a wonderful time finishing this series in one go. This story just gets better with each volume as the emotional struggles among the 4 actors deepen. The TV action hero series, in which the 4 guys starred in, serving as a background is refreshing and it plays like a sub plot. Sensei really has a fun time drawing the costumes :).

We know the outcome of this quadrangle love story. However it is the emotional battle to get there which holds my attention from Vol 2 onwards as I naturally root for both "hero" and "villain" to be together.
Who is my favorite character. It is ofcourse Sawada. He is such a cool, cool seme, his silence and near cynical outlook of life, making him such an interesting character. As the story progresses we almost fully understand Sawada's feelings and he remains a mystique till the end. Minami brought to the brink of despair by Sawada's rejection is one vulnerable character with a naivety and "goodness" which I find sometimes frustrating but then he is forgiven because he is afterall the uke hero. Katagiri may have most readers' sympathy by the end of Vol 3 but then I never rooted for him. I quite like Takagi, the more mature uke who learn the hard way there is no second chance in love, and find myself rooting for his and Sawada's reconciliation but that will not be the Yaoi ending we want. LOL.

I enjoy Hero Heel a lot. The 4 guys may have similar features (something sensei could improve on?) but they are 4 distinct characters and their emotional struggles to hold on to the one they love makes Hero Heel one captivating Yaoi. And the sex in Vol 3 is both sensual and sexy, and a bonus point to sensei for the condom :).』

The final scripts for Trans-Dimensional Warriors Airguard are in, and cast and crew of the hit TV show realize that time is short. Soon, filming will end and everyone will go their separate ways. We have Yanagi wondering why he's being so nice to Arata when he's only supposed to be blackmailing him for sex and Arata also wondering why Yanagi is being so nice to him and why he's responding in kind. Luckily things start to take a turn toward the sinister about half way through and that's where it really starts to get interesting. We start to see more of Arata's twin brother Ten, who is very protective of Arata and also smokin' hot! There is also the introduction of a new character from Yanagi's past who is definitely going to cause some problems. (Note: It is because of this character that two pages of the book were removed due to scenes that included shota. Know that the translation of those pages IS still included in the back of the book). Clearly if the publisher feels the need to censor the book due to US laws it is a good clue to where this story is going. There are only two sex scenes in this volume, both explicit with one scene being longer than the other. However, one scene does include characters other than our two main characters so that's a bonus in my eyes. Translation is excellent and the illustrations are as nice as the first. One funny thing I noticed is that they do "snow" out the man bits in some of the scenes but clearly show them in others. Why cloud out the penis but then show the "man bud"? :-D Overall, I am very happy with where this story is going as of volume two and I love how this one ends on a very sinister note. I'm looking forward to reading volume three and I definitely recommend continuing with the series if you've already read volume one. Plot: A- Characters: B+ Sex: A- Translation: A+ Illustrations: A- Overall Grade: A- 』 (Great Yaoi Manga...) 『I just finished reading volume 2 and it was really great. It was nice to know more about Yanagi's past now if only they didn't remove those pages. This is one of those yaoi manga that makes me want more. I love Arata and Yanagi. They make such a great pair. Even though, the first volume had more sex scenes, I ended up enjoying this one a bit more. I guess it is because the first volume was mainly about them having sex but now that they are both confused about their feelings, it makes it even more interesting. And now that Takashi found out their dirty little secret, I wonder what will happen. It seems the next volume will be packed and more interesting now that more characters are showing up. What will happen now that Kashiwagi has shown up? I bet he will stir some trouble between the two lovers. Can't wait and see what will happen. 』 (Even better than volume 1) 『Like I said in my comment to the previous review, I believe that this is one of the best yaoi series ever published. If people think volume 1 is good, volume 2 is even better! I don't want to spoil anything, but in volume 2, the plot thickens as Yanagi's past catches up to him just as he and Arata are getting closer! Ten's evil character is revealed, and he definitely has something up his sleeve... The drama unfolds in this volume, and I can't wait to get my hands on volume 3! The artwork is truly magnificent, as usual, and the translation is very well done, which makes the story flow smoothly. The color art (cover and insert) is beautiful. There's a short little extra story at the end about the twin's childhood that totally captures the dynamic of their relationship and the true nature of Ten/Takashi. And yes, there is censorship in this volume, but trust me, you won't even notice it. I think the publisher did a wonderful job maintaining the author's intent while still keeping within the law. Overall, a must have for all yaoi lovers!』 (Great yaoi (M/M) manga... but beware: this edition suffered some censorship....) 『For all those who enjoyed Breath -volume 1, the second volume is probably going to be a "must-have" no matter what. The plot and art are as engaging as in the first volume. The ending is a cliffhanger and will leave you wanting for more / volume 3 (scheduled to appear this summer). There is less sex SHOWN in this edition of volume 2 (see why below) as compared to volume 1, but the book still has "mature / 18+" rating stated on it. I surely loved Breath 1, so I had high expectations for this volume. Mostly, it didn't disappoint, my only issue (and hence, 4 stars instead of a well-deserved 5-star rating) is the fact of the censorship of this American edition. I must admit the editors were really upfront about it: the last page reads: "To comply with the laws of the United States, this work has been edited from the original version. Two pages were removed...". Then they give verbal script of what happened on those 2 pages (without any visuals). One of the characters supposedly had sex on those 2 pages, and was probably around 14-15 years at that point. Now, the issues I have are: 1) What exact "laws of the United States" do the editors have in mind? They should have been more specific, so other manga / book publishers would know too. Because if there are indeed such "laws", most of other manga publishers probably have violated them by now (with all those tons of "high-school-boy-love stories" out there...). 2) Sorry, but I just hate censorship in any form. If the book indeed contains anything illegal (or editors are just not comfortable with it / scared about readers' reaction), then do not publish it at all. I personally do not want to read anything even remotely illegal if it really IS. Pick some other Japanese yaoi to publish. The second volume was published in Japan in 2004, well before Yaoi Generation (American publisher) got their license, so it's not like they didn't know. Or did the laws change between the time the American publisher got their license for this series? It must be a very recent law, indeed. 3) If it's illegal to publish something - why to give us "script" about what happened on those censored pages? The whole context and especially fairly racy script make it quite obvious that there was underage sex there. (And note that page 1 of volume 1 featured the "pre-view" of that same censored scene - and it was NOT censored back then). Why is THAT all legal then, while THAT OTHER is not? Or is that unspecified law really that specific? I'm confused and somewhat disturbed by all this. 4) One of the the worst parts of all this is that the script and editorial comments were given at the end of the book. Now, when I was reading through the whole episode, I was actually somewhat perplexed. The main character is dreaming about how he met someone. It's a fairly normal meeting, with nothing particularly bad or horrible going on there. And all out of sudden, he wakes up in terror. Only 25 pages later, when I read "editorial notes" about their censorship on the last page of the book did I realize fully what was going on. Why not to place the explanation in place of the missing pages then, so at least a reader can understand what's going on? Don't get me wrong: by no means I "miss" those "cut out" pages. It's just I think that the publisher shouldn't have picked the manga in the first place if they're not comfortable with it (or if it's indeed unlawful). Censorship and democracy are mutually exclusive concepts. So, 5-stars to the manga author/artist, and 1 star to the publisher. (The book is quite nicely done after all; it has a color insert, and firm white pages). P.S. At the time of this review, the Amazon states the book is "temporarily out of stock"; the book can be purchased through Yaoi Generation web-site directly. (I actually purchased it directly from Amazon via pre-order, and had no problem receiving it, regardless of what they say about its current unavailability in stock).』 『Yanagi and Arata's encounter started off as a simple pick-up at a bar, but Arata - who balks at homosexual sex - upsets Yanagi to the point of being blackmailed into a sex-slave relationship.
