(A Promise of Romance by Kyoko Akitsu)
(Romantic and Sweet) Here we have the typical plot of a Harlequin Romance from the 1980s. A young middle class woman is somehow convinced into a temporary marriage with a rich, aristocratic male. Of course since this is yaoi the young woman is actually a young man in drag. I've never really liked this plot and even having the woman be a man didn't keep it from being bland and boring. And bland describes the characters to a tee. The book meanders along in its slow, humdrum way with almost no indication of romance. Then, out of the blue and what I thought was out of character, the aristocrat brutally rapes the uke. YUCK! It's a painful horrible experience for the uke (which is actually pretty realistic). But does the uke leave or go to the police? No, he's mad for a few weeks and then falls in love with his rapist. What a load of cr*p. The end is abrupt and unsatisfying. Save your money on this one. Satsuki is a young Japanese guy who searches to gain his life in London. He always wanted to be an actor, but when he is refused by the most important actor school in Japan, he decided to try his fortune in London; there is maybe a bit of misplaced proud in it, since probably Satsuki doesn't want to face the fact that him, the one who always had the main character role in the high school plays, was rejected and instead his best friend, the one who always looked upon to Satsuki was accepted.
In London Satsuki is not doing very well; he is lonely and has very little money, and he is too proud to ask help to his family. So when a young nobleman, Edward, asks him to cross-dress and to play the role of his fiancee, Satsuki accepts. It's not only the money, it's also the fascination with the high society in which Edward lives. Edward needs to marry in order to not losing his inheritance, and marrying Satsuki, he is sure that he will have no problem to invoid the marriage.
Edward is not a bad guy, maybe a little spoiled, but all in all he is only lonenly, as lonely as Satsuki. In Satsuki maybe Edward finds more a friend than other. And when it's time to express his feelings, he is too open, and this clashes with Satsuki's culture.
First of all the plot... it's not very convincing. How can Edward and Satsuki marry without problem? Doesn't Satsuki need a birth certificate, where obviously it's stated that he is a man? True, in England same sex union are legal, I believe, but this is not what Edward's parents' will states.
Second the relationship between Edward and Satsuki: it could be a very good example of Pretty Woman's tale, there is also the scene where Edward takes Satsuki out to shopping in the best fashion boutique... but how the relationship evolves between the two it's without a strong basis, it's all too obvious and the author doesn't give us much reason to believe in it... the only sex scene is almost a rape! Actually if not for the rape scene, this book would be a good example of young adult novel, and with an young adult target too.
Well the story is basically about a boy who goes to England to study theater, he meets a prostitute who is the only person that helps him, one day his friend the prostitute gets really sick and gives him the mission of delivering a ring to a person who she calls "god", however she ends dying, On the other side of the country an aristocrat young man lives his life spending all the money that his parents left him drinking, however there is a condition for him to get all of his inheritance and is that he needs to get married before turning 26, in order to do so he needs to give to his future fiancée a ring, turns out that he gave out his ring to a prostitute, so with the help of his journalist friend they decide to go look for the prostitute that has his ring and make a deal for a fake marriage, He meets with Satsuki (Japanese boy that calls himself May because everyone in England has problems pronouncing his name, satsuki is the old way to say may in Japanese) finds out that Brenda the prostitute is dead and decides to make the deal with Satsuki, who ends up accepting because was having financial problems.
**** So this a very common story, you already know how is it going to end, but even so it doesn't make it any boring, is really entertaining, the art is really great, and you get to know about the aristocracy in England, I do recommend it for someone who is looking for a story full of romance, not too many strong scenes, however a rape scene is included. So if you have spare money and you are a yaoi fan this is a must in your collection, Every girl has dreamt of it at least once in her life… for a handsome prince astride a magnificent steed to come scoop her up and ride with her into the sunset.
Edward, an English nobleman, is every bit the handsome prince, except he doesn’t have a damsel in distress. Edward’s relatives have been trying to arrange a marriage for him after finding out that his late father’s will stipulates that Edward must be married by the time he reaches the age of 26 or he risks losing control of the family estate and fortune. Rebelling against his family’s wishes, Edward sets off to find himself a wife of his own choosing. But instead of a wife, he finds Satsuki, a young Japanese exchange student attending theater classes at a local college. Of course, there’s a catch… Satsuki is a boy!
Under the suggestion of a friend, Edward and Satsuki enter into a contract: Satsuki would cross-dress and enter a sham marriage with Edward. In exchange, Edward pays him for his acting services, shut his snooty relatives up and keep the family fortune. Everybody happy. Except for one thing… what happens when they actually fall in love? (Explicit Yaoi with such sweet romances and an enjoyable plot.) Don't Rush Love is a high school drama kind of story with your typical crying uke and rather unimpressive storyline. Morino is a new transfer at the school and very quickly falls in love with another student pretty much at first sight. Since he is staying in the dorms at this school, you can guess who his roommate turns out to be. Kusama, his new roommate and crush, has his sites set on one of his teachers, who of course has no idea about these romantic feelings and is seeing someone else. To deal with these frustrations, Kusama goes on the prowl at night when he should be in his dorm sleeping. Morino wants nothing more than to stop Kusama from these nightly excursions so he offers himself up as a substitute stand-in so Kusama has some way to release his frustration. The big question is... will Kusama finally confess his true feelings to the man he loves or will Morino cause him to see things in a different light?
If you can't already tell, I was not impressed with this story's plot. I feel like I've read this type of storyline a thousand times and could easily predict where this story was going to go. I found myself even getting irritated in the beginning few chapters. It did get a little better toward the end when a few new characters were introduced into the mix. This story's one redeeming quality? There is a good deal of sex and it is VERY explicit. I've always said I can overlook a crappy plot if the sex is good and in this one, it definitely is.
The character design is one you'll recognize if you've read The Sky Over My Spectacles. The characters tend to be a bit on the tall almost lankey side. I won't say they're not sexy but they could be sexier. Personality wise, I felt they were pretty typical roles for the seme and uke; lots of tears, blushing and miscommunication. The book itself has a nice cover and one color insert. 801 fans looking for the dust cover won't find it since they stopped providing them. The illustrations are nicely done with good detail, especially the sex scenes so if you are not a fan of detail in those areas then you may want to pass. However, if that is the case then 801 Media is probably not the publisher for you since hard yaoi is their specialty. The translation was really good and I had no trouble following the speech bubbles. If anything, there were just a few times I wasn't always sure about what was being said out loud and what was only being thought.
In the end, if you are looking for a good plot, this is a definite pass. If you are looking for great sex and a hard yaoi title, this one will not disappoint.

I love Mio Tennohji's boys. There is an innocence in the uke which I find adorable. That said, the seme does come across a jerk at the beginning but soon wins your heart too. This is again so for "Don't rush Love" which has a great storyline as a newbie falls in love with his roomate, a stud. But the stud has been in love with his sensei for years. Will the newbie ever be able to make the stud "really looks at him"? Some angst filled moments here as I really feel for Morino as Souichirou Kusama takes advantage of Morino's love. As in "Meeting you", we again have the uke declaring his love for the seme first but the plot in Don't Rush Love is more engaging, the development of their love better explored.
The romance between Souichirou's twin brother, Riichi, and their uncle, Seiji, is just as enjoyable as Souichirou and Morino got entangled in this couple's not very socially acceptable romance. I guess the second romance could be caught up in moral standards if the mangaka wishes to. But I am glad she did not opt to. The couple from "Meeting You" are featured in this story too and they are of course totally besotted with each other.
I enjoy this mangaka's distinct artwork which is easily recognizable by her long limbed boys and nicely drawn hardcore sex. Another winner from 801 media :) Morino is the new arrival at an all-boys university prep school, who finds himself rooming with over-achieving honors student, Kusama. Apparently, Kusama keeps a secret that has him sneaking out late at night, barely returning in time for morning roll call. Morino becomes convinced it has to do with Kusama s feelings for their teacher, Kanzaki-sensei. Are the two carrying on an illicit affair under the cover of darkness?
To make matters worse, Morino finds his own fascination for his new roommate growing day by day. A simple kiss leads to more, and soon, exactly what Kusama is doing when he should be sleeping turns into Morino s obsession.
Featuring characters from Meeting You, creator Mio Tennohji (The Sky Over My Spectacles) argues that meaningless sex can happen in a spur of the moment, but only time builds a real relationship. When it comes to Kusama, Morino is more than willing to take things slow to find true love! Rerations < Don't Rush Love (Yaoi) >

(five stars -- and then some!)
(Enchanting, delightful, Future Lovers is a keeper!) This Manga is one of my most favorite of all time! The Story is very well written and the characters are very well made, and specially the art and sex scene's. I recommend this Manga to anybody who has read Junjo Romantica or Viewfinder! Yes is that good! If I have ONE complaint with this warm, gentle, sexy, hilarious, and moving tale of love between plausibly adult characters, it's that two volumes are not enough! Saika Kunieda has proven herself a superlative storyteller with this debut English-language release; more, PLEASE!! Volume 2 continues the story of this adorable odd couple during the first few years of their relationship. Their story is pure charm, absolutely delighful and refreshing. As a gay couple both Kento and Akira have to tackle their insecurities. Kento has to fend off his grandparents' match-making while the flamboyant Akira is never sure if he is right for the strait laced Kento. Afterall Kento was suppose to be straight.
We get to know more of Akira's background with the appearance of his flashy mother with her string of men and Akira's childhood art teacher who took the lonely kid Akira under his wings. The chapter involving Akira's art teacher is touching and a trifle sad yet funny too. And when Kento proposes to Akira the consequences are hilarious, with touching moments. How could the couple ever hope to get Kento's grandfather's approval ? As for the last chapter when one is 100 years old while the other is 99, it just cracks me up. Yet beneath the delightful and fun bantering is a most tender love story as this odd couple turns up to be the perfect couple.
The artwork is lovely and lively and the sex is tasteful, especially the beautiful close-ups. Future Lovers is a Yaoi fan's dream. Kento and Akira's sweet romance continues... Miraculously, it's been a whole year since the ultra-conservative Kento and the ridiculously flamboyant playboy, Akira, started dating. Though Kento's grandparents have, so far, managed to survive their grandson's gay relationship, Akira still has some secrets that just might send them to their early graves. Should Kento be more concerned about his family's opinion of him, or his high-maintenance lover's extreme complexes? Sweet and funny, this is the story of two people who couldn't be more different, or more perfect for each other. Rerations < Future Lovers Volume 2 (Yaoi) (Deux) >
