I have no idea why they call it "drawing yaoi" except for the few pages at the end they have. This book is mainly about drawing Bishonen, which in Japanese is literally translated to "beautiful youth boy." I just bought this book from borders today so I was able to look through it beforehand. I have been looking everywhere for the perfect how to draw manga book and I love this one. It teaches you proper skeletal structure, muscle placement, face design, clothes, and more. I'm not really interested in Yaoi at all so this book is perfect. Conclusion:
If you want Yaoi, don't get this book If you want the perfect book on how to draw the male figure from head to toe. GET THIS BOOK!!!』
("Informative, but...") 『While I have found that this book is quite informative and lots of fun as far as drawing bishonen (aka "Attractive Men/Boys"), I was rather dissapointed in it's actual info information on drawing YAOI, which is what it was created for. There are only 3 actual pages that show two guys together, (which is the nature of yaoi) and they're just full of reference images, but little instruction... /: All in all, if you want an excellent book on drawing pretty boys, and a cute bishonen-themed side-story, this is the book for you. But if you want to learn to draw two men together, you'd be better off with "How To Draw Manga: Drawing Bishonen", which features a LOT of yaoi, despite not being a book meant for it. Or even "How To Draw Manga: Portraying Couples", and I haven't yet purchased it, but Botan Yamada's "Let's Draw Yaoi!" looks promising.

Because it was "how to draw hands", "feet"(alot of feet for some reason O_o), and "clothes" and only had 2-3 pages of actual embracing poses and in the back you get a manga thingy used with the characters within the book.』
(Great Resource) 『Ignoring the inaccuracy of the title (it is mostly about how to draw individual attractive men rather than boy-on-boy lovers) this is a really good drawing resource. It covers mostly how to draw attractive men in a few styles commonly seen in anime and magna. Since it can be difficult to find good resources on drawing ATTRACTIVE males, I appreciate it.
I like this book because of the top-notch perspective figure drawing tutorials and excellent examples on drawing one of the most difficult things to capture right, the human hand. I'm looking forward to trying out this new approach to hand drawing and seeing if it will improve my style.
The How To Draw Couples book in the same series includes same sex and opposite sex couples as examples. That might solve some of the drawing dilemmas you might encounter drawing lovers and I would recommend that one over this if that is your end goal.』

Hapless high-schooler uke Yuuya is stuck between two rival semes: one is an old childhood friend and the other is a ghost. This setup is played mostly straight, but with a light touch; Yuuya's attempts to sort through his confused feelings, and ghost-boy's coming to grips with his deadness, provide more serious themes balanced by short but frequent funny bits.
To Yuuya's considerable dismay, both of the seme-boys are desperate to jump his bones and each is bound and determined to win him from the other; much sniping, infighting, attempted exorcism, possession, seduction-through-molestation and paranormally-themed smut ensues. The inevitable happy ending has a twist which is unusual for the genre, but makes a certain screwball sense.
The art is polished and attractive, the boys are hot (both of the semes are prettier than the uke, which is a bit odd but not unwelcome), the story is entertaining and well-told, and there's lots of sexy, well-done smut (though not completely explicit). Overall, a solid win.』

(Love is all you need) 『The art in this book is fantastic, as expected from Takashi Kanzaki, and I will agree that the storyline is original. It has involved characters and heart pounding sex scenes. So you might be asking, why only 3/5 stars?
I think most people will find this book quite alluring, but for me the storyline rubbed me the wrong way. The main character, Yuuya, thinks that he's in love with his ghost friend, who is obviously dead. He realizes soon after their "relationship" starts that he actually might like Katsuki, his childhood friend, better. The entire book Katsuki and Kyosuke are fighting over who gets to sleep with Yuuya first and are perpetually in each others faces.
Although I can appreciate a good threesome and rivals in love, I'm more the person who loves the one true pairing. As long as the two characters in love end up together in the end (which didn't really happen in this book, I think) I'm happy. I didn't really feel like the plot was resolved.
I'm not saying this was a bad book (as I think most people would like it), I'm just giving a warning to all the yaoi romancers out there. If you prefer a nice little romantic wrap up with it ending "I'll only ever love you," this isn't the plot for you.』
(This is a definite "yes", "yes", "yes"!) 『I like this one... I like this one A LOT and what a pleasant surprise this one turned out to be. The plot is pretty simple; Yuuya is stuck in a love triangle with his childhood friend, Katsuki and a more recent friend from school, Kyousuke. Kyousuke, however, has been a ghost for the last six months due to an accident in one of the abandoned buildings at their school that took his life and has caused him to be attached to that location in spirit. Kyousuke is in love with Yuuya and never got a chance to confess his true feelings to him prior to his untimely death. Katsuki has been in love with Yuuya for as long as he can remember and these two are in a battle for his attention (and virginity). Yuuya is "not gay" so he's having a hard time dealing with his feelings but knows he feels something special for his dead friend Kyousuke. (Ok, maybe the plot's not so simple but it's still good!) So just who does he choose in the end? Well, that's for you to read and find out but the ending is not one you could ever guess and left me grinning and surprisingly really happy.
There are so many fun things about this storyline that I want to say but I really don't want to ruin it for you. All I can say is go out and get it because I don't think you will be disappointed. The characters are sexy, funny, and incredibly naughty and the uke isn't anything like a typical uke. No crying, angst ridden scenes; just sexy, steamy lust filled ones where you don't always know just who his partner is going to be or how many.
The book itself has the dust jacket since it is an earlier release of 801 Media's. The illustrations are really nice and very sexy. Takashi Kanzaki knows how to draw a sexy man and there are three VERY sexy guys in this one. Besides the dust jacket there is one color insert as well as the 801-chan 4 panel strip in the back. The translation is very good and I had no issues with the speech bubbles. The sex scenes in this one are graphic but slightly toned down compared to some other graphic mangas I've seen (only slightly, though!). However, I just love how they are done and the ways the various partners are worked out (don't want to say any more than that!). If you love hard yaoi with a really fun plot, sexy manly characters and great drawings, run out and get this one. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

(A threesome that works) 『Love+Alpha is my current favorite of the recent Yaoi releases, and I recommend it highly for those who enjoy comedy, smut and Yaoi.
The plot is simple: The dark haired Yuuya is caught between his long time friend Katsuki and his new friend Kyosuke.
Kyosuke just happens to be a ghost.
Normally this would put an end to things, but as Kyosuke is a bit of a pervert whose horniness for Yuuya is not to be denied, he goes after his goal (Yuuya's virginity) with great determination.
His biggest rival is Katsuki, who has been deeply in love with Yuuya for years, and whom Yuuya has harbored confused feelings for. Now, Katsuki, who has been raised in a temple, can banish Kyosuke (but then he wouldn't have `won' Yuuya fair and square).
In return Kyosuke can possess people...
I'm sure your seeing the wonderful direction that nature has intended for these three boys.
The artwork is pleasing, with three masculine (yet pretty) boys, with plenty of smut, and the plot ties up to a nice, neat happy ending.
As as side note, I thoroughly enjoyed the small bits that dealt with Katsuki's older brother (a devout priest type who suddenly finds himself with not so devout thoughts.)』 『Two's company - three's a crowd! But when the third wheel happens to be a ghost, the results can get interesting! The characters are really this mangas selling point. Chiaki is outgoing, kind and youthful. Eiji is rough around the edges, gentle and loving. The two of them are drawn together through curiosity but grow together through affection. There relationship is a compelling and beautiful experience for the reader. I felt for them and I wanted these two to make through there hardships. I can't praise this enough. I can read this everyday and have a different emotional journey with it everytime. Cut is well worth a second and third look. Yaoi at its finest.』

The subject matter is very much a fine mix of teen angst and tragedy - what I found sad about it, is that the situation of the heroes is a believable reality. (An engaging read) 『The story centres around outgoing Chiaki and the more quiet Eiji, two guys who become friends in their final year at high school. As the plot unfolds you find out about both of their traumatic pasts. The story is really about the relationship that forms between them and how they help each other overcome things that haunt them from the past.
This is a pretty serious read- definitely the darkest manga I've read by Toko Kawai. That being said, it does have its lighter moments and somehow the story is about moving on and growth as much as anything else. Overall, I felt this was a very moving, heart-warming read. There isn't really anything that explicit but there are a few pretty hot scenes.
As ever, Toko Kawai's artwork here is lovely and the characters and story are really well developed. If you haven't come across her work before, I can't recommend it enough! Like I said, the tone makes this a bit different from her other work, but it's a completely solid read. I definitely recommend it!』

In this book she has exemplified everything I love most about her writing. Her great ability to write not only cute, fluffy stories, but also serious, poignant ones, has kept her on my top shelf. "Cut" is definitely one of the more serious ones, probably the darkest one I've read of hers so far. Still, she keeps it from being too heavy to swallow, and the relationship between Eiji and Chiaki is really sweet. I especially love the ending:) I also love aggressive ukes, so that was a plus for me! These serious yet sweet books, such as "Just around the corner" and now "Cut" make me an even more enthusiastic Toko Kawai fan!』

The 2 characters, Chiaki and Eiji are simply unforgettable, their story resonating deeply long after I finished it the first time. The theme in the story is a heavy one and Toko Kawai has handled it so well both in her expressive art and deeply effective words.
Both Chiaki and Eiji are tormented young men, haunted by horrible pasts which refuse to let them go. Chiaki tries to erase his pain by inflicting more pain on himself to the point of self abuse. Eiji is so caught up in his painful past that certain incidences could trigger him reliving his memories, resulting in more pain and sometimes violence. These 2 young men are complex characters. Chiaki is the flamboyant one hiding his pain well while the quiet Eiji tends to buries deeper within himself. Fate brought them together as much as their own aloneness. Their relationship develops seamlessly from initial curiosity to openess to care as they are binded together by each's painful past. Through each other, Chiaki and Eiji somehow manages to heal. Certain scenes are almost painful to read but Toko Kawai manages it so well. Sometimes words are not enough to do justice to the review of an excellent story and Cut is just that. Cut is a Yaoi masterpiece and all Yaoi fans should not miss it.
