Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (One of Hyouta Fujiyama's bests!) 『I fell in love with this title as soon as I started reading it. I could even tell that it is going to be a great work and better than the manga-ka's previous works.
The chemistry between Kurata and Tozaki is undeniable, though Kurata is a straight man. Kurata was Tozaki's first love in high school but he couldn't come out and say it since he was the shy, bookworm type and they weren't even friends to begin with, so they barely even talked. Kurata transferred schools then, so Tozaki's love for him remained a secret until they met ten years later. It was when they met at that time that they became lovers. I liked how tender and compassionate their love scenes were. As soon as I finished reading this volume, I found myself wanting more. I cannot wait till the second volume come out. This title is more explicit compared to the manga-ka's earliest works but no frontal nudity. I just loved the sex scenes and both guys are hot.
I am a fan of Hyouta Fujiyama's works and my favorites are Freefall Romance, Lover's Flat, and Sunflower. Pure Heart is my #1 and the best so far, IMO.』
(Soft yaoi: Romance between two salarymen) 『I really liked "Lover's Flat" by the same manga-ka , but all her other works published in the US so far (Ordinary Crush, Spell, etc) were just so-so to me. "Pure Heart", however, promises to be good. It's romantic and sweet, as Fujiyama-sensei usually does it. A somewhat typical plot, but well-executed, with very beautiful, original art (as usual from this manga-ka). There are no "bonus" / unrelated stories in this volume. The major and only story is about the rekindled romance between two grown-ups who knew each other in high school (but didn't date back then). The seme is really passionate and impulsive, even cruel at times. I personally like such types of semes, so I ended up enjoying this manga more than I'd have probably done otherwise. There's forced sex between two major characters in one of the scenes, so all those who're sensitive about such issues should stay away from this book. The uke's reactions are predictable, he's a sensitive and kind-hearted, insecure "bookish"-type of a guy. There are quite a few contenders for his heart by the end of the book out of sudden, which I found a bit naive and unbelievable (well, it's typical yaoi, after all...). The level of explicitness is quite moderate, but it's still a bit higher than what the manga-ka showed in her "Spell" or "Sunflowers". I guess it's comparable to "Lover's Flat" in that sense, but overall, I still liked "Lover's Flat" much more. Nonetheless, "Pure Heart" is just the first volume in the series, so it's too early to tell. There are a lot of sex scenes in this volume (not particularly explcit, with no frontal nudity), but some scenes feature quite a "dirty talk". Overall, it's a relaxing and fairly enjoyable story. I'm looking forward to the next volume, which was recently published in Japan』 『Tozaki is a writer who, by coincidence, is reunited with his first love from high school, Kurata, while on assignment. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A compact story, beautifully drawn!) 『A story of growing love between a young man and his father's henchman. Akira sells his body to protect his younger brother from harm. In the process he comes to love the man who used him. His father apparently had abandoned him, his little brother and his mother. It is later revealed that he had been ordered by Akira's mother to stay away. He supported them all that time though and never contacted his sons. Only after their mother died did he have the boys come to his mansion. There Akira meets Hyougami, in the employ of Akira's father and it is then, that he gets used by the man. Hyougami did not count on falling for Akira, but he did find the proud young man very attractive. Akira kept his heart pure from the darkness around him and persevered, eventually finding out that his father had really cared for him. A manga of powerful images and writing. I loved the cover illustration. The sexual scenes are intense and Akira suffers, but ultimately he does prove that a pure heart will always triumph.』
(Title Story 3 stars, Bonus story 5 stars) 『Endless Rain title story deals, in essence, one man's revenge. He blackmails the company's president's son in to sleeping with him. Its not the usual sort of blackmail where someone did something "wrong " and the other person knows it. This blackmail involves how the younger brother, who is blind, is treated (going to a school for music), and a hospital being closed and the employees being fired, amongst other things. The ending to the story is contrived and it seems the author wanted a feel good ending. Though how one can fall in love with your blackmailer is beyond me. I give this 3 stars, Five stars goes to the bonus story. It was cute.

(Angst filled and engrossing Yaoi.) 『Endless Rain is one engrossing read. There is an angst filled plot here with depth. The characters may not be that likable but they are interesting. You either like or dislike Hyougami, the complex, cold and forceful seme, with his secret agenda. As for Akira, he could come across frustrating at times but he is your typical innocent uke with a soft heart. The most likable characters are Nao, Akira's little brother, and his assigned faithful caretaker (even if this is a minor role). And I enjoy the brothers' close relationship which is sweet and touching.
But the sudden change in atmosphere towards the wrap-up of the story is not convincing. I like the somewhat dark and unhappy tone of the story and it would have been better if this is kept till the end. However, it is as if the mangaka suddenly decides she has gone too far in her bleak treatment of her characters and tries to rectify it with a "nice" ending. The results are inconsistencies in the characters (especially the ruthless father and Hyougami), and the plot which becomes somewhat a little disjointed. Maybe this is just me. That said, Endless Rain is absorbing, fast paced and after a lot of lighter, sweet and romantic stuff, this angst filled and more complex Yaoi is a good change. Like the artwork and metaphor title too.
The short story on 2 very close childhood friends, in which one suffers from a heart ailment, is romantic and very sweet and both uke and seme here are complete opposites of the ones in Endless Rain.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (I'm a little unsure on this one) 『I'll admit, I'm a little unsure how I feel about this book. The art is decent, not the best, but certainly not the worst either. Some of the stories were more interesting than others. The title story was pretty cute, if a little too fast for my taste. I definitely do prefer book length stories rather than collections of shorts. But the couple was nice and I enjoyed reading about them. They had a few nice moments. Now as for the oft mentioned middle two stories. They're both on the unusual side. Definitely nothing sweet or romantic about either of them. The first involves two men who work at a video store together. One of them finds himself fantasizing about kidnapping his coworker. I actually kind of liked this one, despite the disturbing content. I almost wish it had been longer as it was relatively unique plotwise. I also wondered what happened with the two of them later on. The second of the "disturbing" stories (third story in the book) is about a man who is blackmailing his boss. I'm sure you can guess how this one works so I won't go into details. Maybe just because the idea played out in a routine manner with stock characters I didn't care as much for this story. I can get behind a lot of unusual storylines as long as I like the characters. Unfortunately I didn't. The fourth story was definitely my favorite. I really wish it had been longer. A boy (or perhaps I should say man since he's more mannish) transfers to a new high school and gets taken in by "the boss" of the school and his gang. Of course the Boss (complete with beat up hat and clogs) is the nicest tough guy you'd ever want to meet. He and his gang actually do gardening in their spare time. I thought this one was pretty funny and cute. It would have done well the main story, or at least a longer one. Oh well. The final story involves a man who loses a bet and ends up working as a maid (complete with uniform). While doing his maid duties he falls for the butler of the house. Again, it's cute but it would have been nice if it was longer. Overall, the book was decent. It's the got the pretty dust jacket and color insert that I've come to expect from 801 Media. The stories were about average. Some of them I really liked and some I just didn't care about. It won't become my favorite book but I'll keep it around to read again. So maybe not a glowing recommendation but it wasn't a total waste of money either. I really do wish the Boss had gotten more time. A second story with him would have elevated the book by at least one star.』
(one of my favorites) 『Please read R. Parklane's and Brooklyner's reviews first. I really enjoyed "Weekend Lovers." I normally do not go for anthologies because the stories are too brief and you often do not get to know the characters. I do not feel that is the case here. R. Parklane's review gives a good overall feel to the stories. but I lean toward Brooklyner's opinion. Stories 1,4, and 5 are sweet enjoyable entertaining stories which I enjoyed immensely. However, stories 2 and 3 were the ones that made this book one of my favorites. "Fragments of Glass and Dark Water" and to a lesser degree "Cage" really appealed to my dark side. I don't want to say too much, but the twist at the end of "Fragments of Glass and Dark Water" gave me a jolt. I've read them over and over again. I really appreciate 801 Media for providing quality and explicit graphic novels of this sort. If you like to take a trip to the dark side once in a while like I do, Weekend Lovers should suit you fine. Having said all this about Weekend Lovers, my all time favorite yaoi book is Black Sun. That is a true erotic masterpiece.』
(Great manga, with some kinky stories...) 『If you like some "kink" with your yaoi, be sure to check this one out. It's quite rare to find such stories in the US yaoi manga market. Quite explicit, tastefully drawn and written. A previous reviewer, R.Parklane, did a great job describing the content. If you enjoyed Ashika Sakura's, Dr. Ten's or some of Shiuko Kano's works, you're likely to enjoy this book. The stories in this collection, however, range from quite sweet / romantic (e.g., the title story "Weekend Lovers") to dark / kinky, and I really liked the variety. One of my of all-time favorites.』

(Enjoyable Yaoi anthology with variation.) 『I love the main story "Weekend lovers", which is romantic, sexy and sweet. This pairing of an older, well established executive and his younger and insecure seme is very enjoyable. I cetainly like the idea of a bespectacled uke and his caring seme cook. Their love story is convincing and both characters are appealing.
The following 2 stories are much darker in tone and may not be for everyone, not my favorites anyway. The first one on obsession leading to fantasy overlapping reality with a touch of BDSM is disturbing. The 3rd story on posssession has some pretty kinky scenes. Depending on your taste you may not read these 2 again.
The 4th story on students, whereby one newbie from the city is coerced into joining a club headed by an endearing uke, is funny and refreshing.
Finally the last story which I wish is longer. This one on the aloof and stern butler and his "maid" is comical and delightful. Too bad the mangaka decides to turn this into a one shot instead of a longer story as originally planned.
I like this mangaka's lively and expressive artwork.
