(Great)

(Long overdue...)

(A great read)

(Well presented yet ominous continuation of the series)
This is a great series. The Manga are wonderfully written and put you in the middle of the minds of the characters and the situations. It's great and a great read. Very in depth and intense. Great great great.
All I can say about this is... it's about time. I first saw Ai no Kusabi a few years ago in the anime version and absolutely loved it. The graphic novel is equally as good. What I like about it is the untold part of the story the anime never really touched on. It adds more to the story itself and gives more depth to the characters. I currently am waiting for the rest of this series to come out so I can own all of them. It's a must read!
I liked the first novel and loved the second. I found the second easier to read and understand but still very compelling. Will definately read it again. I have placed an order for the 3rd book with Amazon and this book series looks to have won a place in my collection.
Ai no Kusabi Volume 2 concludes with more questions than answers. The questions about what led Riki, the leader of Bison, from the slums and into the grasp of the Blondy, Iason Mink, are the focal point of the volume, but as a result even more questions are raised.

The biggest question would have to be the details of Riki's time at Guardian and what happened to him and his "friends" there. Dark allusions to their unfortunate fate are made, but the details about some "incident" that keeps being mentioned are still elusive.

Also is the question about the black maket courier boss Katze's true intentions, though to pose that question might be too much of a spoiler for those who have not yet experienced the volume. Suffice to say, his own slum roots and connections to the driving plot of this volume are curious and more than a little ominous.

I do have to pose an issue, aside from questions, about the nature of Riki's relationship with Guy. It is still unclear how they met, and while it keeps being restated that they are "pairing partners" and trust and devote themselves to one another, anything but that is being shoved in our faces in this volume. Riki continues to drift further and further away from Guy and Guy's lack of presense this time around only leaves us wondering what is going through his head during all of this.

And in case any of that was confusing, volume 2 of Ai no Kusabi takes place entirely in flashback to the time before Riki and Iason Mink ever met by chance on the streets of Midas. As the restless 15 year old leader of Bison, Riki keeps searching for something elusive with almost obsessed fervor. Caught by Iason trying to pick-pocket a tourist, and subesequently let go on a whim, Riki, refusing to allow his pride to be indebted to anyone, forces an encounter with Iason that will forever affect both of their futures.

Iason is cold and calculating, but already by the end of the book we can see his own growing obsession with Riki. It's clear that not only is their chance meeting destined to pull them closer together, but also that this closeness will ultimately result in tragedy for both of them.

If you're looking for romantic bits, you're going to be disappointed, but there are a few graphic scenes in this volume: one frustrating and humiliating incident with Iason and a scene tarnished by that one with Guy (one of Guy's few appearances in the volume).

Again in this volume, as in volume 1, the translation is fantastic. But also again, as in volume 1, the entire book needs a good lookover by a proofreader. The language is so smooth and articulate that seeing simple typographical errors was incredibly irritating and off-putting. The illustrations this time around, with the exception of one image of Iason towards the end that was two pages ahead of where it should have been, actually hit in the right places for the moments they depicted. I'm glad DMP mostly took care of that problem from volume 1 and I hope they continue to pay attention to that detail in the future.

If you're looking through this review, having already read volume 1, knowing where this story is headed and still interested in continuing, the book is worth the read, I assure you. If you're looking through this review considering whether or not to start reading the series all together, I say, yes, please do, but go back and start with volume 1. The story is deep, tragic and so wide-scoping that missing all of the detail contained at the beginning will make it harder to appreciate coming this far.

One night five years ago, Riki was wandering through the pleasure district of Midas, when he found himself in a rather dangerous situation. As a consequence, Iason, the genetically engineered elite "Blondie," has given him such levels of humiliation and unwanted pleasure that Riki's mind is still haunted by it!

(As a hard yaoi lover, this is a pass for me...)

(Light hearted explicit enjoyable Yaoi.)
Meeting You is comprised of three stories, the last two being indirectly tied together through the characters' work place. The first story is the title story, Meeting You and is a school drama. Himeshiro is the very popular seme and Touro, the infatuated uke. Hiimeshiro gets asked out a lot and tends to not trust new suitors due their expectations of him that he feels he can't live up to, which subsequently causes them to leave. When Touro decides to profess his love for Himeshiro, Himeshiro decides to test his feelings for him by essentially humiliating him and treating him rather poorly. The first chapter covers these trials whereas the second chapter delves more into their budding relationship. There is also a bonus chapter at the end for this couple, which is humorous. Meeting You is the only story where the uke is very young looking, blushes excessively and cries, which tends to get old. Plus it makes it harder to understand why Himeshiro would treat him so harshly when his personality just doesn't seem to warrant that sort of treatment.

The second story, How to Find a Gentle Kiss, is one chapter and is about two old friends reconnecting through work after a misunderstanding three years earlier. The plot of this one is also a little cliché; one friend confesses his love for the other and then runs off and goes overseas. They lose touch until accidentally seeing each other again after three years only to find out they work at the same company. The last story, Mornings at the Bus Stop, is loosely tied to this one and is about two guys who meet at the bus stop every morning and through these short encounters fall in love with each other. One of them works at the same company as the two guys from the second story and they appear in this story as well. This is probably the most graphic of all the stories for what is shown andhow short the story is. Each story shows some graphic detail but I don't feel Meeting You as a whole is as graphic as her more recent story, Don't Rush Love.

Mio Tennohji's stories tend to run on the cliché side when it comes to her plots and her seme and uke roles. I recently reviewed Don't Rush Love and felt it suffered the same issue. I don't dislike this one as much as far as plot is concerned since there are different stories going along and I thought the story about the two at the bus stop was kind of cute although the love at first site bit does tend to get a little old. Lust at first site is ok too! Her characters are tall and rather lanky and the ones in this title are cute but not overly sexy in my opinion. The sex scenes are explicit but a little toned down from other works I'veseen but overall they were pretty good. The translation is good and speech bubbles aren't hard to follow. The illustrations are nice and the book itself was one of the last to get a dust jacket and comic strip on the inside back cover. One thing to note is that the four panel strip in this one is not 801-chan but one that is about the two main characters from Meeting You.

Overall, I didn't hate the book but I do think it is rather mediocre. Don't Rush Love had a bad plot but the characters were sexy and the sex was graphic and plentiful, which made up for it. Meeting You has a slightly better plot but the sex isn't as good. It's not bad, it's just not enough to make me want to recommend this book for fans of hard yaoi.

Characters = B
Plot = B
Sex = B+
Translation = A-
Illustrations/Book Design = A-

Overall Grade = B+

I enjoy the main story, Meeting you, which has a nice plot. 3 parts in this story. In the first part, the seme does come across a jerk as he manipulates the younger uke, justifying it as a test of the younger boy's sincerity. The uke may be your typical uke but there is something about his sincerity, innocence and gullibility which I find endearing. The second part finds the seme more caring and loving towards his silently suffering uke. Maybe the mangaka could have make this more angst filled as reference is made to their classmates' distaste of their relationship. The last bonus short chapter is really funny as the uke's imagination runs wild! The sex scenes are explicit and I always like the way the mangaka draws the lower body parts. LOL.

The second short story on 2 close school mates meeting 3 years later lacks somewhat in depth.

I enjoy the 3rd story on a younger seme who meets his uke everyday at the bus stop. Wish this one is longer.

I like this mangaka's unique artwork. Her boys have a somewhat innocent air about them which makes the explicit sex scenes somehow more naughty. This is an earlier work than "The sky over my spectacles". An enjoyable explicit Yaoi if you are not looking for more angst. And of course good quality from 801media.

When Tooru confessed his love to classmate Himejou, he wasn't expecting violins to start up in the background or the clouds in the sky to part. He was expecting a simple yes or no answer. But instead of a simple reply, Himejou decides to tease Tooru and sets up various trails of love he must complete to prove his affection! Will Tooru get fed up with these weird conditions and humiliating acts? Or will Himejou get serious?
