customer 's review (F1 Challenge 99-02)
(Great Game... but what's with the price gouging???)
(Prolly the best modern F1 sim on the PC)
(EA Sports F1 Challenge '99--'02 review)
(The best F1 racing game ever!) F1 Challenge 99-02 is the LAST F1 game to be released for the American use, and I say...it's the best.
With over 22 drivers on one track, the tons of mods and upgrades, and speeds as high as 240 mph, this game, no, racing simulation is absolutely astonishing. People who say the graphics are horrible have a crummy graphics card, because I have a NVIDIA FX 5700, and it runs excellent and looks excellent on my PC.
Overall, despite the insane prices posted here, you can find this game for tons cheaper elsewhere. I got mine for $5.00 at a local discount game store. Since then, every F1 grand prix, I drive it and race on it. This is getting crazy... this title and Nascar Racing 2003 have just skyrocketed in price... for USED COPIES!
It was only a few months ago you could get these titles for less than $10 bucks shipped.
These two games are known for their great mods, but pricing like this makes it impossible for new players to experience the fun, or for veteran players to get another copy when their current game CD goes bad... I had to look twice -- $149 for a game?????
Thanks tons for your greediness, pcgames-replay. It's just a game -- not precious metals. Despite the title, it's not great, it's simply good. The 5 stars comes from the great mods that are out and are coming for the game, a 4 if judging by the title alone.First off, the Amazon write-up looks like it's for the console version. There is no 4-season-long campaign mode for the PC. Now, onto the game. The sim mode has improved over F12002, though it's more of an evolutionary rather than revolutionary step. The graphics are well done, as are the tracks, though none of them seem to reflect the bumps an actual circuit has. The tire models have improved, though unless you get adventurous with your setups, don't try to hit the curbs through corners, you're almost doomed to spin. Multiplayer still lags far behind the standards set by Papyrus, you'll be lucky to get more than 6-7 cars in a race without massive lag. Like I said, it's improved over F12002, and I still think it's the best F1 sim on the PC market, but it's not quite perfect. That being said, ISI did one thing very right: they made it very extendable. There are numerous mods available, from Group C Prototypes, ETCC, Australian V8 Supercar, BMW M3 Challenge, and others, as well as an upcoming ALMS mod that is shaping up nicely. There is also a 2003 season available, and while the single-lap qualifying is a bit of a hack (set the lap limit for qualifying to 3 laps, so you only get one flying lap, though without parc ferme, you can get away with low fuel loads and different tires/wing/suspension settings). A 2004 season is reportedly in the works as well. It's well worth the price, assuming you can actually find a copy, as they seem to be few and far between these days (thanks again, EA). It works fantastically with my MOMO Force, and there's still something really fun about running a number of laps on an RL race weekend to get familiar with the tracks and know the trouble spots before you watch on TV. No Bahrain or Shanghai, but the rest are all there. If you must have an F1 sim, this is the one to buy. For mods, this is also the one to buy. If you need to have the greatest sim on the market, stick with Grand Prix Legends for now, and GTR when it comes out, assuming it's as good as the demo makes it seem like it will be. For more mod information and downloads, check out Blackhole Motorsports: http://www.bhmotorsports.com/ After reading the positive reviews I thought I would give this one a try. This game sucks. It does not even come close to Sierra's Nascar 2003.(which is awesome) The graphics are poor, and the whole feel of it is very low grade. I do not recommend this game even if you get it for half price. Total waste of money! This game rocks. This is the best of F1 series and I think it was the last F1 game with EA. It has great graphics, good sound, and nice cars. There are also mods for this game and they are even better. I always play the mods now. But the game itself is very good. There are plenty of cars, there areplenty of tracks, and there are few different camera angles. I like the 3rd first person view. You don't need super great computer for this game so you should get this game. My recommendation is only Pentium III 500 or higher, 128MB ram, and at least about Nvidia TNT2 16MB, Radeon 7000 or higher. This game should work on all decent computers. This game also has great multiplayer mode. I think this game is a must buy and the mods are definetly worth it for free too. Rerations < F1 Challenge '99 - '02 >

customer 's review (Does anyone know where I can download the patch?)
(Need to be quick to race against the pros.)
(Great F1 racing game!)
(Fun Simulation, Great Value)
(Worth it!) I just got this game, but it crashes so much it's almost unplayable, I have heard there was a patch released that fixes the problems, can anyone let me know where to find it? Thanks This game is XP compatible as stated in the game's install guide. Anyways, you can forget winning any races with an automatic tranny unless you are using the beginner level. The game has scalable realism so u can have antilock brake and steering assist even if it's not available in real life. The force feedback adds an awesome component to any driving game. Use the default setting or tweak your ride to get an edge in pursuit of the checker flag. 17 race tracks all over the world with variable weather just like in real life. Save your video replays and show your friends how you became champ. Or race against your friends over the LAN or net in multiplay. Very entertaining.
This game is one of the best racing game I have ever played. It is very addicting and it has all the good stuff. I played this game over and over for about a year now and I'm still not tired of it. This game is great. The graphics are tremendous, the controls are easy, and the sound is pretty good. I think the best part about this game is the mods. I only have one of the mod, but that's the only one that I play. I don't even play the F1 2002, I play the mod. The game itself is super good, but if there is mod for it, that means this game is a must have. Also, you don't need a fancy computer to run this game. The system requirement is small and this game is amazingly FUN! I gaurantee you that you will have fun with this game. This is one of the best racing sim if not the BEST. So get this game right now! This is the F1 2002 version of the game which I purchased in July. EA has recently come out with a new 99-02 version of the game which according to many is not a huge improvement. The 2002 version of the game is well supported, has LOTS of mods (ability to load differnt cars, tracks, adjust physics, etc) and has set the benchmark for F1 racing sims. Oh, and its 13 bucks. The 99-02 version will probably become the eventual standard and I may switch at some point in the future.I am not a big gamer, but years ago enjoyed Need for Speed 2. I spent long hours perfecting my skills and I set an online world record for some of the tracks. If you are the kind of person who likes to squeeze every last bit of performance out of your car and seek the best times, this is the ultimate game. It is more of a simulation than an arcade game, but it is playable and very fun once you learn car control. I have a background in SCCA autocross racing so I know a little bit about racing physics. The physics engine is truly realistic. When you take a turn too fast, you will push and scrub off speed. Trail braking works as expected to lighten the back of the car and help rotate. The traction circle seems to be in force and the condition of the track and your tires effect your stickiness. Trade a pair of warm tires for some new cold ones in the pit and you will feel mildly reduceed handling. Weather effects the surface and overall traction is depicted accurately. Cars travelling on the ilne reduce moisture so that on wet trrack days your trtaction is best on the line. An impressive visual and physical experience! Track gradiations effect your traction and there are some off-camber and downhill turns that act as would be expected. While you cant necessarily "feel" what the car is doing, it will sometimes squirm when it is lightened and reacts realistically to over-ambitious inputs. The sensation of drifting is there and also pushing and scrubbing off speed is accurately depicted. I have only been driving one car and havent experienced oversteer excecpt after trail braking (havent gotten this down yet) Even though I cant feel the car, I know what it is doing. I've never driven an F1 car (and probably never will), but this simulation acts the way I would expect an F1 car to act based on what I know. On the down side, because you are racing on a computer screen, it is difficult to look ahead because your field of view is limited and (depending on your resolutions), items in your direct field arent discernable until they are too close. This means that alot of doing well on a track is a process of remembering the trrack and what is coming -- you cant always rely on visuals alone. For instance, it is hard to see a decreasing radius turn. For that matter, it is difficult to discern the radius of many turns because the whole turn is not on screen. I wonder if I had a better graphics card if this would help a little bit. There is no outrageous throttle steer like arcade driving games. No jumps. If your expectation is to race like the dukes of hazzard, you will be disappointed. However, because this is an F1 simulation, it has a definite feeling of speed and requires lighting quick reflexes. The grgaphics are FANTASTIC and approach photorealism. My graphics card is several years old (1.4 AMD + Radeon VE dual head) but handles everything well. The only problem is at the beginning of the race when the full grid is on screen, the refresh rate drops. I havent experimented with lowering resolution to fix this problem. Sound is also excellent. I am not an F1 or racing fan, but this game is making me one. I was watching speed vision and I chuckled when I saw that F1 2002 uses the same on-screen timing/position graphics and car cams as speedvision does. Car set-up is highly adjustable although I havent used this feature yet. There is a driving school mode which teaches you the best line for certain tracks as well as accel, braking points. Very fun! There is online play (which from what I understand requires a fast server with HUGE bandwidth), but for hot lap competitions, go to www.findthelimit.com. There is a telemetry program that allows you to upload your races to their server. So while you are not competing in races with other players directly, it is very competitive and there is an elaborate scoring system. You too can vie for the world championship. It seems that this program and perhaps F1 racing in general is more popular in Europe. I first tried using this game with a joystick but then went out and bought a USB steering wheel (Logitech Wingman GP). The wheel is necessary to do well. (and cost 3 times as much as the game!) Highly recommended! What a great formula sim. The real treat of this game are the free mods that give you way more replay value than you could have imagined. How does adding GTA3 cars and tracks sound? Grab it and look up the mods. You won't be disappointed if you're a racing fan. Rerations < F1 2002 >

Usually ships in 24 hours F1 2000 is the only officially endorsed F1 game to feature the 2000 teams liveries and driver line-ups and enabling the player to customize the grids to match the actual races. Detailed set-up options and a realistic physics engine will please the purists while many of these options can be turned off to appeal to arcade racers. F1 2000 leaves all previous F1 games on the starting grid with its realistic adrenaline-pumping interpretation of the world's greatest motorsport. The recreation of the tracks is remarkably accurate. The additional detail in the mid and far horizon adds much more starch than gamers have seen in previous F1 titles. Tracks like Monza Spa and Monaco look much more detailed. The sound in this game is incredible too - the engine sounds are truly realistic. The game is chock-full of modes and options ranging from a full season run in which you hope to capture the championship to a single race for fun as well as a time trial and two-player modes. If you are a beginner you should consider the Driver's Training course. Just about every mode other than the quick start lets you customize all of the rules and settings to your preference. In addition F1 2000 lets you pick from all of the real drivers cars and tracks featured in the actual real-life F1 2000 racing-season schedule. While all these added bells and whistles are certainly nice to have F1 2000's performance on the track is really what the game is all about.System Requirements:Minimum: Mac OS 9.1 / Mac OS 10.1.3 PowerPC G3 333 MHz 128 MB RAM Hardware accelerated 3D Graphics Card with 8 MB VRAM 500 MB free hard disk space Mouse and Keyboard Recommended: Mac OS 10.2 or later PowerPC G3 600 MHz 256 MB RAM Hardware accelerated 3D Graphics Card with 32 MB VRAM 1 GB free hard disk space Steering WheelFormat: MAC 9.1-9.X10.1 OR LATER Genre: ENTERTAINMENT Rating: E - Everyone UPC: 644247002467 Manufacturer No: 246 Rerations < F1 Championship Season (Mac) >

customer 's review (Good game, but needs fast machine) It would not run on my AMD 450 desktop. I installed it on my Work Laptop, which is a Penium III, 1.3 Ghz, and it ran great. Unfortunately, my steering wheel won't plug into my work laptop since it doesn't have a joystick port. The graphics are awesome, but you need a really fast machine to run it. It is very difficult to drive if you turn off the cheat features. You really have to memorize every turn in a course. But that's what makes it challenging. Rerations < F1 2001 (Jewel Case) >

customer 's review (Wow!)
(Not a great substitute for Microprose Grand Prix 2) Ubi Soft has the ability to make this game amazing... I love racing, racing sims and other related stuff and I know lots, so I had a great time tweaking in the pits and all but my bro just wants to race...he does it fine... being able to accomodate different type of users and moods is key... Colours and graphics are crisp on my Matrox G200...and sounds is good! After reading some puffed up reviews on the Internet all I can say is that the game play is dissapointing overall. Sure updated graphics are nice , but the game play and in car sounds are just ok.

customer 's review (Very good)
(come on geeks, its not that bad)
(could it be any worse?)
(Can't we all just get along?)
(F1 2000) Simple, F1 2000,by electronic arts, Official formula one racing, by Eidos,{langkor}, and granprix 3 by micropose, are all excellent games. These are the best 3 out of all the rest of the F1 sims. TRUST ME: PEACE: I guess I'm not a hard core SIM nerd like most of these other reviewers, but I think this game is pretty fun. The track realism looks pretty damn good to me. I have a P3 700, with a pretty basic 3d card and only 64 RAM and this game runs fine. Look, I doubt this game was written for experts, and its probably targeted for the mainstream audience and general F1 fans like me. So if you're looking for the absolute best SIM, spend more... and get something else, otherwise this game is cheap and fun. I played a better F1 game back in 1995. First I thought it's some kinda joke. Everything sucks in this game, graphics are like out of 1990 'ies. If you wanna spend your money, do it elsewhere. I really regret that I bought this "game". I was very much looking forward to this game, owning other EA games such as Madden 2000 and NHL 2000. I am fairly new to F1, having watched for only the past 4 years. I love the sport. I own Grand Prix 2 by Geoff Crammond and suspect GP3 will be just as good. It seems though, that F1 2000 reviewers are, to say the least, passionate about their feelings.I admit, I was very frustrated with this game at first. I couldn't get anything to work right. I was determined, however, to make it work. I focused on downloading updated video drivers and not playing with the display settings. Those display settings can be frustrated because the "inadequate" game manual doesn't do a good job explaning these settings. The results of my tinkering paid off. I am only running a 400mhz Pentium II with 128MB RAM. I did however upgrade to a 32MB video card some months ago to get my Harley Davidson game to run correctly. I feel that F1 2000 is a solid start for EA in Formula One. The graphics are crisp and not choppy on my system. The track detail is fantastic and my car screams around the circuit. I am no game junky. I just like to get on and race. Admittedly I use a lot of the driving aids, but I have fun racing as Michael Schumacher's teammate. My biggest disappointment is the lack of weather. F1 and rain go together like peanut butter and jelly! I have no doubt that EA will correct this. Having lived through many progressions of Madden Football, I am confident this game will only get better. EA's commitment to upgrading their games each year is great. I am also thrilled with the new tracks and drivers on their correct teams. I know I will be disappointed with GP3's game because it is based on a season already two years old. In the end you can't have everything. Can't we all just get along? After all, our passion is Formula One! I read some of the reviews out there for this game. Some hit the mark and others miss. For starters the complaints about the system requirements are accurate. I have a P3 650 ,64 megs RAM and a Voodoo card and the game seems to think this is a med-low system. As for the review that said it wouldn't run in glide, that's no suprise as it's Direct 3d only! Another said you can't blow the engines. Unfortunately I can atest to that being wrong too. Not only can you but I have! The game has it's frustrating points but it's fun and fairly realistic. It's hard to gauge the realism as I've never been in a real F1 car.But if you have good hardware to run it and like F1 anyway I would recommend this game to you. Now for the first time ever, F1 fans can get a taste of the new season from the outset rather than having to wait until the championship is nearly over. Designed specifically for the racing sim fan, no aspect of the sport has been overlooked to ensureF1 2000is the most accurate and detailed F1 title on PC. Rerations < F1 2000 >

customer 's review (Is F1Championship Season 2000 developed by EA SPORTS???? ??)
(Not too bad)
(Think twice for this game.) I`m Totally Surprised!! Is it the same team ,who developed SUPERBIKE 2001,the grreaaatest game of 2001,developed this game?? I played Electronic Arts` developed NEED FOR SPEED series in the PLAYSTATION and i was totally stunned, and from then i kept believing EA SPORTS would develop Formula One,my favourite Game at high standards in the PC.Not to mention, that was the same reason for me to buy a very high end PC.But my graphics Card isn`t a Geforce2,but is a Riva TnT2 32Mb one.I played Superbike 2001 on my card.It was simply stunning. It was the game that would satisfy all classes of people.I`m from a middle class family.I can`t afford to buy a Geforce2 64Mb card, instead my house would run for 2 months without any problems with the amount of money i would invest.Formula One mainly attracts the middle class people who are at present 65% in the whole world`s population in terms of Gaming.I hope EA SPORTS would definitely develop F1`2001 and the rest basing on people`s BUDGETS and design them like SUPERBIKE 2001 or FIFA 2001.I totally AGREE with the very good people who REVIEWED this game other than me.. I got this game for Christmas and the graphics are great, the detail on the tracks is amazing and the physics, well the physics are hard to judge because I have never driven an F1 car. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the frame rate drops horendously at the start of the race, which is the most important part, however that is only with a 22 car grid and all the graphics options turned on maximum. Also when watching a replay, the cars' wheels tend to turn into octagons, but if you're paying attention to that during a race than you'll smash into that wall up ahead... The driver's school is a nice touch and if you're a novice, it can be very helpfull. Just turn the engine volume down a little so you can hear his instructions. Defenetly something I would recomend to anyone intrested in F1. I am doing a full length world championship (100% race length) and despite not being able to score any points so far, it has given me many hours of entertainment and will continue to do so in the future. I bought this game for my father for Christmas. I based my decision of the depth of car set up that you can tune and also on how the graphics looked on the back of the box. Once installed, the graphics were highly pixilized and nothing like that on the box and when you got into the drivers ed. that's part of the game, you could not hear what you had to do to pass the training. Then there is the game play. I find it way to easy to play untill I take a corner a tad to fast, where I easly loose traction on the rear tires and spin out to end up doing a 180 and loosing at least 4 places of rank. While EA Sports may make other games that are really fun to play with good graphics, F1 Championship Season 2000 should have stayed in R&D a bit longer so that the graphics would have been better looking on systems that don't have thousand's of dollars spent on graphic cards. Just so you know, my fathers computer is not old, slow nor a slouch and is entirely Intel bassed, from the motherboard, processor, to the AGP graphic card. Relive the gladiatorial battles between Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard, or tear up the record books and take an outsider to world championship glory. With in-depth, behind-the-scenes technical support from the Orange Arrows and Benetton Formula One teams, the player enters the world of Formula One racing in great detail.Features: - Formula One driving school. Train to become one of the Formula One superstars with the all-new Formula One Driver Career School.
- Full wet-weather racing and advanced environmental effects, with implications for race strategies and driving styles.
- Use of the renowned 2-seater Formula One racecars.
- Unprecedented realism with updated car models, dynamic texture shading, multiple rear wings, and improved force feedback.
- Graphical effects featuring a dynamic racing-line driver assist, realistic tire smoke, and particle effects.

customer 's review (one of the best)
(Very realistic game.)
(I thought EA products were suppose to be good!!)
(For all of you Formula One fanatics) F1 2000 is one of the best formula one racing sim on the market, trust me; PEACE: Great fun for a F1 fanatic. Graphics are great if you have the power. Audio is wonderfull also. It shows how much talent a F1 driver has, I cant keep up with the leaders. Bus as stated else wear it is great to race a track on the PC them watch the actual 2001 race.A must have for the well equiped PC owner who loves F1 I got the game started. Some adverts during the installation told me that ALL the games apart from F1 2000 were excellent. Anyway, the video was absolutely bad. I have played FIFA 2001 and Rugby 2001. The video in those games were exciting and good. But in F1 2000 it just shows a bit of pit stops by the Benetton crews and it showed no F1 action at all!! That gave me a really bad impression. Then I go to quick race in Indianapolis because I never raced in that track before. The graphic and sounds were terrible. There are no sound at you shift down (unlike GP3 when you have a sound and the flame from the exhaust) and when you get in to the grass, it's a good idea to have the mrak in the grass but the graphic was too poor. There are some good stuff too, but not many. First of all, the voice of Jim Rosenthile and pit crews are excellent. You could also knock down the board showing you the distance from the corner. I havn't had a wet race yet in F1 2000 so I can't rate on that but it seems almost impossible to finish the race. GP3 is simply way better. If you're one of those closet F1 racers, come on out! F1 Championship Season is as good as it gets. Although it takes a lot of PC horsepower to get the best performance out of it (I had to upgrade my video card to 64mb), it's worth every dollar. The graphics are stunning, but the best part is how realistic the car's dynamics are. Be prepared to look stupid the first time you drive it. If you don't use things like traction control, anti-lock brakes, and the other driver "help" goodies, you'll find out how hard driving a real F1 car is. Get used to spins, sliding through turns and crashes. And that's on dry roads...don't even think of turning on the rain. I have perhaps 5 other driving simulators, like the Need for Speed series, Sports Car GT and several Nascar ones, but nothing even comes close. Use it with a force feedback wheel and you'll see what I mean. It's as real as you can get without putting your life in danger!Try it, then watch the 2001 F1 races on Speedvision. It'll give you a whole new perspective on Formula One racing. The tracks in the simulator (I can't in good concience call it a game) are so real, when you watch the actual races on TV, you'll feel like you've already been there. It's the best of the best.
