(A Good Classic Game)
(A classic!)
(Great Game overall, Fitting all pieces in box is a problem.)
(Great game, cheap plastic.) I'm 35 years old and fondly remember playing this game with my sisters. I purchased this recently on Amazon so I can recapture glory with my own children. the game is a take on the classic Tic-Tac-Toe game, with the spin being that you need to get four black/red chips in a row. Its fun to watch my children try and think a few steps ahead to ensure they don't get smoked by dad while also trying to set themselves up to win. While not quite chess, this is a great starting game for 5-7 year olds who've outgrown Candyland but aren't quite ready for Boggle. Good in 30 minute increments. My mother loved to play Connect Four with her grandchildren. It was a way for her to teach them from a young age to count four items; to sort two colors; to learn to look horizontally, vertically, and diagonally; and to win and lose politely. After she lost her ability to think fast and move her hands with dexterity, we could stimulate her by playing a game. We always had a good time with Connect Four.
The game is amusing enough to entertain an adult while giving children a quick little fun time. This game has been around a long time, and it continues to be one of the best. I wish that the grid support were stronger. I watched my mother wear out several games.
As long as laughter requires no carbon credits, this game is good green entertainment. It burns no fuel. My 6 year old is loving this, as is his 3 year old sister, but I dislike the new design as it has to be taken apart to fit in the box! If I didn't have a crawling baby who tries to eat the checkers I'd just leave it set up, but as it is, I end up having to assemble it ever day or two. In addition to the regular benefits of playing games: turn taking, communication, fun, Connect 4 in particular supports development of seeing patterns, a very important developmental skill.
With regard to this particular edition of the Connect Four game: It comes with additional pieces you can connect at the bottom to keep the "chips" contained when the bottom is opened and they fall out. (Not shown in the picture on the front of the box.) I don't particularly find this very useful, as I haven't found it a problem that the "chips" are going all over the place. However, it's an interesting addition.
My one complaint is that it's very difficult to get all of the pieces fitting into the box so that the lid closes completely. And this is a big pain. A child can't just pile them all into the box and close the lid. Some finesse is needed to position all the pieces just right to maybe get the lid fairly well closed all the way.
I do like the square box size rather than an old version I have that is a large rectangular box. This size fits better on my shelves. (I have multiple games because I adapt them for further educational support in classrooms.) I grew up loving playing this game with my parents so now that my daughter has turned 7 I thought it was time to get this and teach the kids how to play.
The game is a great classic, easy enough that anyone can learn in minutes but difficult enough for somewhat complex strategies. Also if you don't pay careful attention someone can beat you by accident.
The only problem I have with the game is it's construction. When I was younger the one we had was made of much heavier plastic. The game also had a swing arm at the bottom that swung out to let the checkers out. This game has a plastic oval at the bottom, believe me it's a nice touch because it keeps the checkers in but the problem is that it's cheap thin plastic. The stand is also made of three pieces rather than one so it keeps falling apart, I'd consider gluing it together but then it wouldn't fit into the box.
This game is a great addition to your collection if you have childern, it doesn't have much potential as an adult game but that's not what it's meant for. If you can find one of the older versions at a garage sale or a thrift store though buy that one instead. The rules are simple: try to build a row of four checkers while keeping your opponent from doing the same. Sounds easy, but it's not! The vertical strategy creates a unique challenge: you must think in a whole new way to block your opponent's moves! For 2 players. Game includes: grid, two end supports, 21 black checkers and 21 red checkers. Connect Four is like vertical tic-tac-toe. Unlike tic-tac-toe, however (as the name suggests), you must getfourcheckers in a row. One player has red checkers; the other has black checkers. To play, alternate turns at dropping one of checkers down a slot at the top of the upright grid. The first player to get four checkers lined up in a row in any direction--horizontal, vertical, or diagonal--wins the game.--Alison Golder Rerations < Connect Four >

customer 's review (A baby toy not suitable for babies!)
(was what i was looking for...)
(vaction treat)
(A Fun Panda)
(Webkinz) I searched for a baby toy, but when it arrived, it was marked "not suitable for under 3 years old." I wished the product description had carried this information as well. A co-worker is graduating from high school and she mentioned that she liked the webkinz panda she had seen some place else. I thought it would be a perfect graduation gift for her. I love shopping on the internet for that reason. You can find what you are looking for with out traveling. Even though I live in Vermont,I got this from Boston Masachusets. On my second day. It was the animal I was doing my report on. I love it! It has great learing beacause of Quizzy's.It's fun beacause of games. It can also be fashionable! Great item! Eclipse (my panda's name) is very soft and very cute. The only thing I have against it is the big stomach which I often refer to as: jelly belly. It would also be better if it was on 4 feet like the other bears. But other than that, I am very happy with the product. It is cute, soft and well made. What else can you ask for from a toy? This toy is awsome my kid really injoy it specially getting points by way of solving some problem. I encourage my kids to go to Math&Science to get their points.
For me it is very educational at the same time your playing with it.
Good job Pandas are known for their laid-back attitude and gentle nature. Pandas enjoy a well-designed room with lots of comfy places to sit - and a well-stocked fridge of Bamboo Canelloni. Rerations < Webkinz Black And White Panda Plush >

(LeapFrog Word Whammer)
(Good toy)
(LOVE this thing!)
(Lots of word fun) This toy is great fun for the WHOLE family. Neville, our cat, always comes running when we start playing with it. He loves to push against it and make it play the sounds. My only complaint is that it makes the wrong sound for R. It says that R says /er/ but R actually makes the sound /r/. It's really difficult to say without a vowel, but you must or kids will it up pronouncing the word row, erow. That's just not right! Anyway, we love the Word Whammer and Fridge Phonics! If we need Neville to come and have his glucose level checked, we just start pushing letters and he comes rushing into the kitchen. My grandchild is learning how to spell small words on the refrigerator while his Mom is cooking. The day after I put this on our fridge, my pre-schooler could spell 3 words from memory, knowing what they were, and recognizing them if I spelled them. I am very impressed at how this toy does teach. From helping my then-2 year old learn letters to helping my then-4 year old learn letter sounds to helping my then-6 year old practice spelling short words, this toy has been invaluable. The kids are now 5, 6 and 8 and they still play with it all the time. Between this set, the original single-letter toy and the bonus pack of lower case letters, they have enough magnets for everyone. Both my 6 and 3 yr. olds like this toy and it keeps them occupied for quite a while. The sounds and voice encouragement don't get on your nerves like some toys can. And it's easy to operate without much instruction. With LeapFrog's Word Whammer Fridge Phonics, you can create over 325 three-letter words with magnetic letters that sing and teach. These interactive, magnetic letters are based on the LeapFrog Talking Words Factory video. What's a Word Whammer' It's a machine that teaches kids letter names, letter sounds and how letter sounds blend together to make words. It features three modes of play. In Letter Hunt, children learn letter names and sounds through fun songs. With Word Builder, children explore letter combinations and create over 325 words. In Word Hunt, children can spell three-letter words, then replace letters to make rhyming words. Lights follow each letter during play to reinforce the learning. Includes letters A through Z, plus six additional letters (E, O, D, G, M and P), so kids can spell words like MOM and DAD. Letters and magnetic letter reader attach securely to the refrigerator. (Excellent Card Game)
(The most fun I've ever had with a card game)
(Great game)
(Great Game) Like the game very much. My eight year old caught right on and likes the strategy--he's hooked. This game is definitely geared more towards a family although adults can have fun with it to.
As far as educational value goes, it would fall under very general quick mental math, as it is much more fun when you can total your miles and your opponents miles traveled quickly in your head.
I found the original one at a rummage sale&had it for over 10 yrs. Everyone that played it loved it. It's so simple even my son who has autism has played it since the 3rd grade (as long as someone else added the score). My husband&I both have a college education and have a blast playing it. The more players you have the more fun it is. There's no way to explain it that conveys how much fun it is. But trust me it's one deck of cards you don't want to lose and one game you'll never find boring. Fantastic game, mixing strategy with luck in a way that keeps you wanting to play more. My only beef with the game is that it is utterly impossible to play with all the lights out. Other than that, great game. This is a really great card game. I've enjoyed playing it with my wife for 20 years. One game is never the same as the first. I would recommend it to any one who loves a fun easy to learn game. You're in a cross--country auto rally through France, and it's filled with real--life traffic hazards. You've run out of gas--do you have a Gasoline card' You've got a flat tire--have you got a spare' Use the deck's special cards to overcome hazards and put obstacles in your opponents' path. Stop them with a Red Light, impose a Speed Limit, cause a Breakdown. But watch out--they're trying to do the same to you! Contains: 106 playing cards, illustrated rules and score sheets. Play with 2, 3, 4 or 6 of your friends. You're cruising along at 100 mph, bolstered by an extra tank of gas, when suddenly your opponent cuts you off with a flat-tire card. You slam to a halt, sidelined until you draw a spare tire. It's a 1,000-mile race along an imaginary road; your goal is to arrive first, avoiding the hazards--flat tires, accidents, empty gas tanks--while inflicting them on your opponents and collecting the spares and repairs that will speed you on. The oddly absorbing Mille Bornes (French for 1,000 milestones and pronounced "meel born") has easy-to-follow rules of the road: green means go; red means stop; obey the speed limit at all times. You might even pick up a few words in French. Nostalgics beware: Anyone who owned an earlier version of the game will miss the acid-green plastic cardholder and the oversize cards. Mille Bornes is for two to six players. Rerations < Mille Bornes Card Game >

(Fun way to get together with family or friends)
(Lots of Laughs)
(fun for family) This is for adults and teens. Fabulous fun. A workout for the brain that always leaves us laughing. Delightful source of entertainment for friends and family. Makes good memories as we laugh and retell certain moments again and again. I played this game with a group from work and had to buy it for home. It's easy enough for children to play, but requires some thought so you don't say the "Taboo" words. Thinking up alternate ways to describe common items and famous people is great fun! I love this game. It's simple, yet very smart, makes you work your brains a little, but not to the point of being tiring. It's pretty portable, so you can carry it along to picnics, trips, visits to friends, etc. We bought Taboo for our regular game night with friends. It is a nice change from the typical board or card game and is played in teams. The rules are simple but the game is challenging and lots of fun. We were so focused on the game that we often forgot to check the turn timer. This game would be suitable for adults and children ages 7 and up. it is a fun game for family time, however the shipper delayed it too long and i received the other items 1 week before this one.
How do you get your team to say diamond, if you can't say baseball, ring, carats, jewel or engagement' You might say, "These are a girl's best friend. Hope is a huge one. The World Series is played here. Some are found in the rough." Get your team to say the secret word. Give suggestive sentences, funny phrases or even one word hints as clues. But don't use any of the words on the card. That's Taboo! Each time your team shouts out the secret word, you get a point. But be careful! Your opponents will be "looking over your shoulder" - making sure you don't say any of the Taboo words. If you do and they catch you, they sound the buzzer and score the point! It's unspeakable fun. Take our word for it! For 4 or more players. Game includes: 504 cards, card holder, buzzer, timer, score pad, and instructions. Requires 2 "AA" alkaline batteries (not included). It sounds so simple: get your team to name common words without voicing a few choice descriptors. But could you describe a wristwatch without mentioning time, wrist, or clock? Taboo rewards those who think--and speak--fast. The team that correctly identifies as many words as possible in a minute (measured with an hourglass timer) wins. If a member of the opposing team, armed with the blaring buzzer, catches the clue giver using any of the taboo words, a point is deducted from the group's score. It's a good idea to separate people who know each other well, because their familiarity can be too great an advantage. If the clue is spinach, prompting with "Mom made this every Monday" just doesn't seem fair, though it is permissible according to the rules. Playing Taboo requires an AA battery and a sense of humor--you'll need them both! The timer is included. Taboo is for four or more players.--Leah Ball Rerations < Taboo >

(Iron man action figure)
(Finally!)
(Great Replica, Boys Loved It)
(Nice!) My 4 yr. old son loves this toy! More than two-and-a-half months after buying it for him, he still plays with it all of the time, takes it with him in the car whenever we let him, and has vanquished many an Evil Doer with a well-placed "Repulsor Blast!"
I can't imagine Tony Stark's armor being much tougher than this action figure. It gets "flown" into all types of surfaces at various rates of impact, and even the finely detailed fingers are still intact. The makers went the "extra mile" by including not just an "on" and "off" setting, but one in-between that silences the "whooshing" jet boot noise (which continues until Iron Man "lands" again...oh joy, haha), but still allows the sound effects/speech that occur when pressing the chest or arm buttons! (And speaking of those boot sound effects, we have had NONE of the problems in some other reviews of the boot switch not working that triggers the sound on and off for taking off or landing.)
I have only two minor complaints. First, there are some limits to the articulation of the arms, legs, and head. No Action figure takes a beating from my 4 yeard old. There are barely any scratches and all the features work great. Excellent item. It seems like I've been waiting just about forever for someone to release a 12" scale Iron Man figure. My wait came to an end with the arrival of the Repulsor Power Iron Man figure from Hasbro's Iron Man movie toy line.
This isn't a perfect figure, but it's still pretty impressive. It's very close in appearance - if not scale - to the movie Iron Man, and the attention to detail is quite good. The head seems way small, especially if there's supposed to be a person in there. I would love to have seen a version of this figure with a removable helmet.
On the plus side, the electronic features are extremely cool. Beyond a few stock phrases ("I am Iron Man", "Repulsor Blast", "Switching to Auxiliary Power"), the figure also has a light up torso and left hand repulsor, and features motion activated sound effects for flight and landing (there's a trigger on the right boot) as well as repulsor sounds when the left arm is moved.
On the minus side, the figure is not as articulated as I had hoped. The head moves, as do the arms (but only forward), elbows, legs, and knees. The wrists do not move, which is understandable at least on the right hand with its missile launcher. The ankles do not move either, which is a bit disappointing. Of course, my figure will spend 99.9% of its time displayed on a bookshelf, so articulation is a relatively minor concern for me.
Small gripes aside, this is about as good an Iron Man figure as I had hoped for, and is a welcome addition to my 12" figure collection. It also withstood my 2-year-old's "intensive product testing", so I'll probably end up buying another for his upcoming birthday.
This is a great toy, very nice replica. Paint chipped fairly early though. Overall, it was a great toy recommend it for kids who liked the movie. First of all a great value for this Iron Man. I just loved the sounds every time you move it. I just wish it could have a little more points of articulation. You can really have fun playing with this Iron Man. Nice! Repulsor Power Iron Man is a 12â motion-activated figure with 3 âAAAâ batteries included. Repulsor Power Iron Man is equipped with a repulsor launcher and two yellow missiles; manipulation of Iron Manâs boots activate âblast-offâ and âlandingâ sounds; the button on Iron Manâs chest activates glowing repulsors and triggers the phrase, âI am Iron Man!â Tony Stark initially developed the armor in captivity, developing a repulsor device to counteract shrapnel lodged near to his heart; Stark utilized the repulsor technology to build the Mark I armor, with which he fought his way free of captivity. Ultimately, Stark upgraded his armor design to the Mark III version, which provides vastly augmented strength, near-invulnerability, and an arsenal of advanced weaponry including missiles and repulsor blasts.
