(Blokus)

(From classroom to living room)

(It's awesome!)

(Fun and addicting)

(EXCELLENT)
What a terrific learning tool. They play this game for honing math skills in school and the kids absolutely love it!
I originally bought this game for my classroom. The students (16-21) loved it. It was very interesting to see students who were not generally successful with more traditional classroom games thrive with this game.

I am now considering purchasing a second copy of this (and Blokus Trigon) so that I can have a copy at home and at school. It's an excellent addition to your collection.

My only concern is that with such small pieces, they could get lost very easily in my classroom. I was pleased to see what I thought was a very reasonable missing piece policy on the internet. I have not had a single piece go missing, but in the future, I will use plastic bags for my classroom copy of the game to prevent loss.

This game is great! It's a game that can be played with 4 people and different colors. Even though it might be easy to lose some pieces it is still fun.You will find it hard to put the right pieces at the correct time.
My son received this game as a gift when he was 6 years old, and it still is his favorite game 2 years later. He will actually play against himself to figure out new strategies. My son has played so much at this point that it is impossible to beat him. The game has very clear instructions and it doesn't take long at all to learn how to play. you can play with 2 - 4 players, with more players making it more interesting. The object of the game is to use up as many of your pieces as possible while at the same time blocking your opponents. The pieces are all different shapes which I learned quickly can become challenging. The great thing about this game is that because of the shapes of the pieces it really is different every time you play.
My 6 year old grandson plays this in school and loves it so much he asked for it for CHRISTMAS. So I bought one for each family that has young kids. Anything that brings a family together, and is educational is is #1 in my book.

Grades K and up. Europe's 2003 game of the year! Develops logic and spacial perception while kids learn to be tactical. Players take turns placing pieces on their board, each starting from their corner. Each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners! The goal is to get rid of all your pieces. The game ends when all players are blocked from laying down any more of their pieces. Includes one gameboard with 400 squares, 84 game pieces in four bright translucent colors, and an instruction guide.

Fun for both kids and adults, Blokus is a strategy board game that challenges spatial thinking. Bright colors and simple rules make it ideal for ages five and up, but adults will certainly be engrossed by this unique and challenging game.

Not Your Average Board Game
Blokus encourages creative thinking and has received a Mensa award for promoting healthy brain activity. The goal of this game is for players to fit all of their pieces onto the board. When placing a piece it may not lie adjacent to the player's other pieces, but must be placed touching at least one corner of their pieces already on the board. The player who gets rid of all of their tiles first is the winner and strategic thinking helps as you block moves from your opponent. Blokus sometimes comes to an end because there are no more possible moves.

Four players make this abstract game especially fast and exciting; however, it can be just as fun for two or three players. Blokus has come up with a number of different ways to play the game to make it more thrilling when playing with less than four players. Draft Blokus allows a player to use more than one color and Reverse Blokus reverses the entire game so that the person who places the least amount of tiles on the board is the winner. It can even be played in a solitaire version when one player attempts to place all of their pieces in a single sitting. A game of Blokus typically lasts a 30 minutes. As a practical feature, raised edges on the board help keep the tiles in place and allow convenient clean-up. This game includes 84 pieces in four vibrant colors, an instruction guide, and one gameboard with 400 squares.

Blokus is simple to understand, but the game's complexity is revealed shortly after everyone begins to play. It can be addictive, even for those not normally into abstract games. Blokus is a catalyst for spatial thinking, as players form images in their mind before placing the pieces on the board. Children and adults can play together for hours of competitive family fun. As Europe's 2003 Game of the Year, Blokus is adored by many and even played in professional tournaments.

What's in the Box
84 pieces in four colors, gameboard with 400 squares, and an instruction guide.

Once a piece has been placed on the board it can't be moved, so plan your moves carefully.

Adding to the game's challenges, each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners.

(Great -- gets kids moving and they don't realize they're exercising)

(Was a hit with my 7-year old nephew)

(Broke after 1 day)

(LOVE IT!!)

(Great!!)
What a great premise -- create an obstacle course, beat your best time, or your sibling's... move, break a little sweat, raise your heartbeat -- and have a great time doing it. One afternoon, with the targets spread all over the first floor, there were 2 teams of 4-40 year olds running around having a blast... in an era of couch potato video gamers, this is a welcome addition to game options... I make my kids play Hyperdash for the same amount of time they want to play video games or watch TV... exercise before passive activity! AMEN!
Purchased for my nephew's 7th birthday. It was a huge hit with not only him, but all of his friends. He went through a set of fresh recharged batteries the first day. Considering America's rising obesity problem, making exercise fun and enjoyable, while somewhat engaging the mind (when played on harder levels), this was one of the better gifts I have given him. I'll be looking into the other Wild Planet products after seeing this one.
My son got one for his 5th birthday and loved playing it. However, after the first day it no longer worked. Fresh batteries didn't help. The only way I could get it to turn on was to remove the battery cover and push on the batteries. As soon as I replaced the cover, it wouldn't turn on, so now he can't play. I tried to stuff wadded paper into the battery compartment to add pressure but that didn't work. I'm very frustrated about its lack of durability.
My son just got this for his birthday. I wanted him to have a game that was not only fun, but that he could learn from. My son has autism and my goal for this game was to work on his listening skills and turn taking. It's funny how he doesn't listen when I tell him something but when this game talks, he listens. He had a ball running around to all the targets. My son hasn't spent that much time playing a single game in his life!

I had a ball playing it too. This game is so much fun!

This toy is great!! I have 6-4-2yr olds and it is FANTASTIC!! My two older children are racing against each other's times, and then teach the colors to their little sister!! She is already catching on!! It is great exercise for kids trapped in the house all winter!!
It's the electronic game that's as fast as you are. Test your speed and agility in a race against time using five targets and an electronic handheld unit. To start, set up your targets on the table, around the room, around the house or throughout the yard. Then, follow the announcer's commands as you zip around your racecourse to tag your targets with the handheld unit. The fastest time wins. Features four game modes that challenge your speed, skill, memory, coordination and teamwork. Includes ergonomically designed Hyper Dash unit and five labelled targets. Requires 3 "AAA" batteries, not included. Measures 4.5"L x 12"W x 10"H.
Hyper Dash is an award-winning fast-paced race course game from Wild Planet that encourages kids to be active and think on their feet. Designed to improve listening, coordination and math skills, this exciting game is easy to set up and is an ideal way to help kids aged six and above to practice addition and subtraction while exercising and having fun.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good:Award-winning way to stay active; improves listening, memory and math skills

The Bad:Plastic unit may not hold up to lots and lots of rough play

In a Nutshell:Hyper Dash is a fun way for kids to exercise their bodies and their minds
At a Glance

Ages:6 and up
Requires:3 AA batteries
Fast, Easy Set-Up
The only set-up required is to install three AA batteries. Opening the battery compartment requires a small Phillips head screw driver, which means an adult needs to change the batteries. This keeps batteries in the right place during active play, but it also means that changing batteries on the fly requires you to have a screwdriver with you.

The manual is clear and concise, with descriptions of how to play and a list of all the special commands the Hyper Voice issues, so any child can be up and running in just a few minutes. There's no button to turn the unit off, but it quickly shuts itself off when not in use to save battery life.

Getting Moving Quickly
The electronic tagger plays upbeat music and calls out voice commands to control the game, while players following the commands race against the clock to tag targets identified by color and number. Kids can play solo, up to four players can compete head-to-head, or up to eight players can work cooperatively in teams of two. There's even a level where kids need to solve addition and subtraction problems to figure out which target to strike next.

With no complex set-up and no complicated directions to follow, younger children get started playing Hyper Dash quickly. Since players control where the five targets are positioned, there are infinite ways to play Hyper Dash. Combined with the fact that Hyper Dash offers four games to choose from with increasingly difficult levels to master, and it's easy to see why even older, more experienced players (including parents!) stay excited about this game.

Four-Games-in-One
The original game, Hyper Dash, features the Hyper Voice calling out commands. Four different levels allow the players' skills to progress. Level one includes only colors in the calls. The calls on level two are a little faster and include both colors and numbers, while level three adds special commands like "Double Strike," "Triple Strike," and "Reverse. " Level four features the "CompuStrike" call, which require kids to solve basic math problems, such as "four plus one" or "three minus two. "

In Team Dash, a special command indicates when the Hyper Dash unit should be handed off, turning the race against the clock into a relay. The games Micro Dash and Team Micro Dash set out sequences that get progressively longer and trickier, providing a challenging test of memory.

The Hyper Dash unit keeps track of times and scores, and the Hyper Voice announces the winner at the end of the game, cutting down on arguments. With only one Hyper Dash tagger, kids will have to wait their turn to play in multiple player games. This can be both a lesson in patience and an opportunity to cheer others on.

RFID Technology for a Flexible, Durable Game
Hyper Dash uses radio frequency identification (RFID) to recognize the targets. The same technology is used to track packages and to identify books and DVDs in many libraries. This means that a wireless signal connects the Hyper Dash unit and the targets, so there's no need to strike targets with force.

While the Hyper Dash tagger unit seems incredibly durable, it is made of plastic. Just because RFID technology means kids can tag targets lightly, it doesn't mean they will. Our one concern about the game is the possibility that hard play will damage the tagger over time.

With RFID, there's no limit to how far apart you set the targets. You can set them up at opposite ends of a football field for a serious test of endurance, or close together requiring fancy footwork. You can even them up next to each other to see who has the quickest hands. This flexibility makes Hyper Dash appropriate for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Award-Winning Educational Fun
Kids have so much fun playing Hyper Dash that they don't realize how much they're learning. Parents will love the way Hyper Dash combines active play with lessons that support color and number recognition, basic math skills. The game's format also inspires better listening and improves kids' coordination. It's no wonder that Hyper Dash has won an iParenting Award and a Seal of Excellence Award from Creative Child Magazine, along with several other honors recognizing it as an innovative, educational toy.

(For the Spanish viewers out there: NOT THE DUB YOU REMEMBER)

(condition descibed incorrectly)

(sleeping beauty)

(happy)

(Now This Is A Restoration!)
Like many people in Latin America, I grew up watching some great Disney movies. I believe that what really made them such hits with Spanish-speaking audiences (back then) were the great dubs (doblajes) of the time.
I was really excited when Disney started advertising this new special anniversary edition, restored and full of goodies. However, disappointment struck when watching the movie I realized that they had decided to re-dub the whole movie.

Now, one of the reasons this movie was brought back is to show off the potential of a fully animated Disney classic on Blue-ray. Nevertheless, if Disney wanted to advertise tha package as fully restored, they also had to do the so for all non-English tracks (French and Spanish). However, the classic dubs would cost too much money to be restored. Thus, Disney decided to ditch the old and bring in the new. So they just re-recoded everything in 5.1 DEHT and started advertising it as such.

Maybe Disney doesn't understand this, but the old dubs have become inseparable parts of their movies. To me, this is not the same movie that I grew up with and came to love. And hence, the bad grade.

If you don't mind the cheap voice-overs that come in 5,1 DEHT, then this DVD is for you. But if you appreciate good acting, good translations, or just simply want to relieve a really good movie and share it with a new generation of youngsters, then, by all means skip this one.

Item was described as new, still in original plastic packaging. Item arrived in scratched box - no plastic. Embarrassed to give item as gift!

it had been awhile sense i saw this film and it was much better then i remember it
My girls and I love watching Sleeping beauty. I think my oldest loves it a little too much because she wants to watch it every night before her bed time. The video with Emily Osment is beautiful.. I would recommend this DVD...
For those who are not aware, there were very few movies (about 30) that were created on 70mm. The contrast and picture quality is stunning. Lawrence of Arabia is one of them. Problem is, VERY vew theaters are capable of playing 70mm and because of so few movies it isn't easy to arrange. But the scope and depth of picture quality outdid anything until digital came into picture.

For Disney to have mastered this from 70mm is stunning and the making of featurette is impressive. Gave me a new perspective on the film.

Worth buying this Christmas!

Awaken your senses to the majesty of SLEEPING BEAUTY, Walt Disney's classic fairy tale. See more than you've ever seen before through the magic of state-of-the-art technology, and experience this groundbreaking film restored beyond its original brilliance, in the way Walt envisioned it pristine, beautiful, utterly breathtaking. SLEEPING BEAUTY will transform your home into a fantastic world your family will want to experience again and again.

In the original story, Princess Aurora sleeps for 100 years before being awakened by a prince's kiss. In the Disney version, Prince Philip comes to her rescue much sooner.
George Brun's orchestral score, which was nominated for an Academy Award, expertly blended famous themes from Tchaikovsky's ballet.
With a budget that exceeded $6 million in 1959, this was Walt Disney's most lavish and expensive animated feature to date.
Determined to make the characters as realistic as possible, Disney had a live action film shot with actors posing as Sleeping Beauty, the Prince, and Maleficent, for the animators to use.
New York Times critic Bosley Crowther called the fight between Prince Philip and Maleficent the noisiest and scariest go-round he (Disney) has ever put into one of his films.

And Much, Much More

Disney's 1959 animated effort was the studio's most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney'sSnow White and the Seven Dwarfstaunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent's castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. --David Kronke

On the DVD
Sleeping Beautywas the last and most lavish of Walt Disney's animated fairy tales. He told the artists not to hurry and to give him "a moving illustration": The film required almost four and one-half years and one million finished drawings. Instead of the 19th century storybook illustrations that had influenced the look ofSnow WhiteandPinocchio, the artists adapted the flattened perspective and jewel-like colors of 15th century French illuminated manuscripts. The results remain unmatched for sheer visual opulence. However,Sleeping Beautysuffers from a weak story: the vision of an ageless princess slumbering in a vine-shrouded tower was replaced with elements ofSnow Whiteand a boy-meets-girl musical. The evil Maleficent and the three Good Fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) dominate the film, rather than Princess Aurora and Prince Philip.Sleeping Beautywas originally released in 70mm, and the Blu-ray edition restores the film to its original splendor. (Many earlier releases trimmed the wide-screen images and/or muted the glowing palatte.) The Bonus DVD looks good on a flat screen monitor, but it pales in comparison to the richness of the Blu-ray. In addition to the commentaries and a making-of documentary, the set includes myriad extras that vary widely in quality. Nostalgia buffs will enjoy the recreation of the old Sleeping Beauty's Castle attraction in Disneyland, and the TV program "Four Artists Paint One Tree" provides a welcome showcase for key talents from the film. But the CG animation of the dragon and the voice imitations of the Good Fairies fail to capture the magic of the originals in the "Dragon Encounter"; the "Maleficent's Challenge Game"--a hi-tech Twenty Questions--sounds only vaguely like the redoubtable sorceress. (Rated G: violence)--Charles Solomon

(More Genius from Pixar)

(If robots can love then so can you!)

(AMAZING STORY&ANIMATION)

(Score One More For Pixar)

(Best Film Oscar for 2009?)
The geniuses at Pixar have done it again with this extremely cute, touching, and socially conscious movie. Wall-E--short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class--is an adorable, vaguely ET-like robot whose job is cleaning up trash by pressing it into cubes. Since the future Earth he inhabits has been rendered uninhabitable by enormous garbage heaps, Wall-E has only a cockroach for companionship; all humans have fled the planet on "space vacations" and have remained in space for 700 years. In the course of this long absence, they have grown used to an effortless yet artificial existence and have forgotten all about their once-beautiful home, but a miraculous discovery gives Wall-E a chance to bring them back.

One of the most unique accomplishments of this movie is the characterization and animation of Wall-E. Although he is very much a robot, Wall-E endears us with his very expressive and human mannerisms. He is full of robot wonder at the things humans have discarded, adding his favorites to a collection, and he falls in love with another robot, EVE, who visits the planet in search of signs of life. What is especially impressive is that all of this takes place with very little dialogue. Throughout the movie, Wall-E only learns to utter a few words, but he still "says" very much.

Beneath the cute love story is a message about the effects of unbridled consumerism. Not only has the planet been overrun with waste, but the space-vacationing people have been made so lazy by technology that they are morbidly obese and unable to get out of their hover chairs. As their spaceship (owned by the mega corporation Buy 'n' Large) runs on autopilot, they simply sit and float, scarfing down food shakes from the Regurgitated Food Buffet and chatting via video screens. So wrapped up are they in these activities that they forgo not only exercise but any sort of interaction with each other.

This is yet another wonderful family movie from Pixar. No matter your age, it is impossible not to fall in love with Wall-E and with this magical film.

Leave it to Pixar to make us fall in love with a trash compactor robot. Wall-E is innocent and adorable, his obedient ways break your heart and instantly draw you in. The movie is exciting and funny, morale of the story is: get off your lazy behinds and take time to smell the roses. And more importantly to love and care for our planet because taking it for granted could lead to devastating results. Animation is riveting. A must have for all!
Wall-E is wonderful. Amazing story line, little words are needed to get the message across. Companionship, being resourceful, environmentally conscious, having hope to be something better than where we came from. Everyone should see this movie at least once, even if you aren't big on anime. Its in the level and up there with Spirited Away and Cowboy Bebop.
Pixar has done it again, the love able Robot Wall-E can now be yours on DVD. I highly recommend this DVD, if you're a movie, disney, or pixar fan I definitely say buy the three disc DVD. The second disc of this edition contains some great special features not included on the single disc. "The Pixar Story" is an incredible documentary on the development and creation of this incredible animation studio. This is a great DVD for all ages.
Wow. I was lucky enough to see this at a screening in Pixar studios, and now I've just bought the DVD and watched it again. Wall-E harks back to the days of the silent movie, when dialog was not used as a substitute for story unfolding visually, and it succeeds triumphantly in reeling in the audience. Not only is the central relationship both touching and funny at the same time, it's founded in a very dark future where humans have trashed the earth and live lazily on an off-planet ship. To succeed in combining these plotlines shows how mature Pixar has become in creating compelling stories, and making movies that both kids and adults both enjoy.

This is Pixar's best film to date (not that any of their previous movies have been anything less than outstanding), and it speaks to their remarkable talents that the 5-minute Presto short before the film is more entertaining that most live-action films have been this year. I think this is also Pixar's most technically advanced animation to date, in terms of simulating camera moves, lighting and art direction from live action science fiction.

If you haven't see Wall-e already, this may be the best $15 you spend this year!

(PS - As an aside, Ben Burtt is a very nice guy - the BURN-E noise is an electric shaver and the laser gun effects were made using a Slinky. :-))

Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain (Jeff Garlin) joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth.Wall-Eis a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. Underneath the slapstick comedy and touching love story is a poignant message about the folly of human greed and its potential effects on earth and the entire human race.Wall-Eis preceded in theaters by the comical shortPrestoin which a magician's rabbit, unfed one too many times takes his revenge against the egotistical magician.
