He loves Legos, maybe all 8 year olds do. He was able to put it together without problems up until a certain point where we discovered that there were missing pieces. This seems to only happen to us when we buy $100+ lego sets, the cheaper sets have never been a problem. I am sure if we call Lego they will send the missing parts no problem, but it is upsetting to have a child very excited about putting this together and it all has to come to a hault when pieces are missing. Kid get very focused and excited while building. This is the second time this has happened to us with expensive Lego sets. Overall, it is a fabulous creation, and the educational value can't be beat. This set is for older children, but my 8 year old had no trouble, and it was a nice challenge.』

(Falling Water Love Affair) 『This LEGO set of the Falling Water home was for my Brother, an Architectural Engineer and long-time FLW fan. He has visited Falling Water on more than one occasion and when I saw the LEGO set I knew he would love it. As things worked out he called 8PM Saturday night and, as he would be travelling over Christmas, we agreed that he should open it immediately. He was thrilled and even though he was going to catch a 5AM flight the next morning he said he wasn't going to bed until Falling Water was built!』
(Less of a toy, more of a Lego showpiece) 『First things first, this isn't really a "traditional" Lego set: while all the pieces are things you'd recognize from 25 years ago, the set is clearly aimed at a much older audience. The box even states its recommended for 16+. I'm 30, a big fan of architecture and I've always enjoyed Legos (but hadn't bought a set in over a decade), so when I heard this set had been created I leaped at the chance to place it in my new home. I'm not disappointed.
When constructed, the structure isn't big: the base measures 10" x 5" and its 4.5" high, but its quite complex (more complex than the sets I remember as a kid) and feels substantial when completed. There are well over 800 pieces and approximately 100 pages of instructions. The instruction book also includes a few short essays on Frank Lloyd Wright and Fallingwater. The assembly instructions are well done and putting it together took several hours but no confusion.
You can't tell by looking at it, but the structure is actually designed to come apart: the house is in several pieces that stack on top of each other and then slide into the base; this ability to do a blow-up diagram lets you examine some of the forms that were used in the structure. Of course, you can't expect this set to be a very precise reproduction of the actual landmark, but it definitely captures its essence.
The set uses only a handful of colors that seem inspired by the colors Wright would use in some of his sketches --it gives the completed piece a very mature look. Once it was done I placed it on a shelf next to various books on architecture and modern sculptures. This is a very substantial piece when fully constructed, and if it got your attention like it did mine, I think you'll be satisfied with it. 』 『Throughout their 50 year history, The LEGO Brick has been associated with building houses and architectural structures, with children and architects alike using the brick to express their own design ideas. (Intricate Design) 『As always, Amazon delivered the product in 2 days with Prime membership. The LEGO 8088 Arc-170 is a remodeled and updated version of the original starfighter from set 7259 (now discontinued). This current model has a much longer wingspan and is overall bigger, with smaller pieces resulting in a more intricate design and tighter fit. The color palette is also very nice, however, the set does come with stickers, which I have chosen not to apply. Bear in mind that the three cockpit windows are technically blank, and the white window separation is achieved through stickers. In the core of the Arc-170 is an exceptionally clever LEGO brick engine, composed of 2 interior gears; turning it lowers/raises the wings, reminiscent of the X-Wing. I personally feel the price tag for this set is a bit on the high side in terms of bricks:price ratio, but the well engineered engine mechanic is no doubt the cause of this. When purchasing this set, one is essentially paying a premium for the additional labor cost used for design. Of the more recent Star Wars sets, this is the only one to incorporate Technic pieces on this scale.
Comes with 4 minifigs [2 clone pilots, the Jedi (whose head is made of rubber), and 1 astrodroid]. Conclusion: There are much better LEGO Star Wars models out there if you're looking for a good bricks:minifigs:price ratio. However, if you're interested in a more technical set that "moves" with not just wheels and kinetic energy, this is for you.』

I was extremely hesitant to buy Bendaroos, but it was the most requested Christmas present by my 6-yr-old daughter. After we tried them the first time, I was so disappointed and almost threw them out because, like others have stated, they did not stick together. I thought it was the worst $20 I threw away. The next week I decided to crumple them up and get the wax all mushy. Then I tried again to make the objects. It worked! They stick together and are fun to play with! So, for anyone who has complaints about them not sticking, go ahead mish-mosh them around and get the wax to free up...and then have fun making things.

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Power Miners 8957 and 8956 sets) 『I've been a Lego nut since they were invented practically (I'm the proverbial little old lady in tennis shoes who still plays with trains, erector sets and my huge antique Lego collection). An issue I have with current Lego toys is the vastly specialized array of pieces; I think more creative thinking gets done with the older style sets. But I guess constant specialized products drives the high-hype toy marketing business model.
However, these days I get my Lego "fix" when friends usually put one or two of the small Lego sets in my Christmas stocking, and I now have a 7-year old in the family again to buy Legos for; he likes the construction and city services sets.
This year I got 8956&8957 in my stocking.
Since I don't follow Lego advertising or magazines, I don't know what the "Power Miners" theme "story" is about except some kind of underground/mining theme, so I don't know what the little robot-like crystal guys are. Are they "the enemy"?
I presume that as usual these sets are targeted at boys, and designers seem to think boys' toys have to be about some kind of war with good guys&bad guys. (Do the good guys have to be so ugly and menacing looking?) This is too bad, as these could have been about neat mechanical devices for mining, and from these two and pictures of others, they do have sort of fantasy mining and tunneling devices, like the 8960 is similar to the devices actually used for tunneling. I'd prefer to think of the little crystal guys as robot helpers like R2D2, that you send into tight spots too dangerous for human workers.
The 8956 is a neat little tricycle trencher-digger that is fun to play with. However, the instructions show the trenching cutters pointing the wrong way; they wouldn't work the way they're shown in the instructions. The package cover does get it right. I was also disappointed that while both 8956&8957 have pieces shaped like gears that go on the axles, they don't function as gears, they're just for looks. These aspects of the models are disappointing because Legos can be good for exploring mechanics if done right.
I agree with another reviewer of 8957 that it is poorly designed.
Some points: it is structurally unsound (comes apart too easily).
The ball and socket joints are good (but very tight, even painful to assemble), but aren't used that well or realistically.
The device won't stand up properly and tips over too easily, depending on what you do with the tool arms. And I shudder to think what would happen to the operator if one of the two tools was actually used on rock - the reaction forces would probably send the whole vehicle flying apart.
Another problem: the cab has two joy-stick type controls (??), but they are positioned behind the operator, and the man figure can't actually hold them. This bugged me so much that I ditched the pick ax and the funny little red gizmo (fire extinguisher? emergency flare? water bottle? Hand held laser rock cutter?) that were held by the little black pieces on each side of the cab, and swapped the black pieces positions with the green ones that the joy/shift sticks are fastened to, which moved the sticks forward where they can actually be put in the operators hands. (Besides the pick and the red gizmo would probably get caught in the tool arm mechanisms and brain the operator: bad worker safety design.) I gave the pick and the red gizmo to the two crystal robot guys to use.
The 8956 detail stickers (I don't like the stickers in general; too specific) put engine exhaust ports right beside the operator. Bad idea and/or careless design.
Still, I had fun putting the two sets together and will soon take them apart and see what else I can come up with. The two little sets are a nice combination for the price.』

He particularly likes the claw action of this guy, and had been waiting for it for quite awhile. (Perfect Power Miners Starter Set for the 8-12 yr. old lego nut) 『Since the Power Miner sets and story started being featured in all of the lego club member catalogues and magazines, it hit the top of the must-have list for my 10-yr. old lego nut (knocking out, at least temporarily Star Wars, Transformers, and Indiana Jones). Although he used his allowance to purchase this one and the usually cheaper Stone Chopper (for some reason it currently costs more on Amazon), this is your best bet for a good under $10, starter Power Miner set.
- It has all the necessary ingredients for playing and imagination power: figurine, rock monster with crystal, accessory (mining pick) combined with a substantial versatiile mining vehicle.
- It combines with the Stone Chopper (using instructions found on the legos site) to make a larger piece. (Apparently, this is big deal with Lego nuts - and both can be found for less than $20). As a side note, other sets that can be combined to make larger more powerful pieces include: 1) LEGO Granite Grinder/Thunder Driller and 2) LEGO Claw Digger and Crystal Sweeper.
Bottom Line: My 10-year old nephew put his hard-earned allowance against it after weighing many options (endlessly), and is happy with the choice and it's still providing endless playing power.
