customer 's review (Phaser good, communicator not quite)
(Star Trek 2-pack)
(Too shoddy for replica, too dear for toy)
(great nestalgic toy)
(Just as much fun as you'd think!!) First the good. The phaser is very good. You have the option of using it as a Type I (just using the smaller part) or Type II (ie. docking it into the pistol part and using both). Now the bad news. The Type I doesn't dock into the pistol very well at all. This affects the "overload" function. Only through pressing down on it by hand or somehow wedging the phaser down will you get the overload to work. It's cheaply built but it doesn't mean it's not fun. The communicator however is just bad all around. The mesh screen came bent and not fitting flush to the rest of the communicator. Thankfully it's made of cheap metal so I could bend it to the right positioning. Also, don't think you can flick this communicator open just like the show. There's no friction on the hinge so it just flops around. The motor that makes the screen design slowly spin around is so incredibly loud that I went in and took out the battery. No on/off switch. The communicator couldn't be more disappointing. Save yourself the money and buy the phaser by itself if you really want it. While a big fan of Star Trek, I would not be considered a "Trekkie". However, the "replica" items are fine for my taste. They are only for display use and therefore are just fine. A more fanatical fan would probably be disappointed in the quality and design. But for the "average" fan, they are acceptable. Probably a little over-priced for the average fan. I must say this is a disappointment, mainly due to the quality. The communicator in particular looks rather poor. The paint job is sloppy, with some of the silver paint spilling off of the trim, or not covering the trim completely, making the new item look worn. The antenna has a frame with the mesh "cage" soldered at a few points, and where it is not soldered it does not quite meet the frame, leaving rough looking gaps. It does not fit into the casing well and won't close completely. Though only a very minor nitpick, the antenna is also a matte bronze color rather than the shiny gold in the picture (this may be more faithful to the original prop, as shiny metal can cause glares on set, but it was nonetheless a little disappointing). Mine had some sort of flaw in the display screen resulting in a big black splotch in the center. The phaser doesn't suffer quite as much, though it too has sloppy paint.
All of this is in addition to the over use of gimmicks. I knew going in that the phaser wasn't perfectly accurate, but the changes seem excessive and unnecessary. The biggest modification is the "targeting sensor". What is supposed to be the power control dial instead raises the silver mesh piece on the top to a low angle, supported by a clear plastic piece that replaces the trigger button (which has been relocated to the bottom of the piece). To change the power setting one turns the gauge on the right side. This might seem like fannish, nerdy nitpicking, but it is a significant modification of the original design, unless all the replicas I've seen elsewhere are inaccurate. Combined with the reassigning of the pistol's power control dial that is supposed to initiate a self destruct sequence (that doesn't work on mine) and a few other minor details, it really isn't accurate to brag about the authenticity.
All in all, these are not really very good for collectors or geeks who want to display or occasionally play with replicas. They might be more suitable for children, but they are awfully expensive to be thrown around by a kid, especially given their light construction. Perhaps if the makers had used fewer gimmicks and instead made the items a littler better, they might be worth it. As it is, I will be sending mine back, and will just save up for proper replicas.
Of course if these two toys where metal that would be an improvement but for the purpose of being able to have a great replica of a childhood fantasy in your hand, this product is good. A heavier, more durrable plastic would be an improvement. The sound effects are cool. The 'hailing' setting on the comunicator is great. The phaser has an over load build up with explosion setting, straight out of the original TV show. I always wanted these toys as a kid growing up in the late 70's but to poor to get for Christmas or birthdays, so I'm buying them now..just 'cause. This was a gift for my husband, a total Trekkie, and he does have alot of fun with it. Back by popular demand are two of the most iconic and recognizable pieces from the classic Star Trek line - the multi-purpose Phaser and the always handy Communicator. customer 's review (Gift for Grandson)
(Bakugan is not so great)
(Excellent)
(Do price comparisons!)
(My kids play with this for hours) My 5 1/2 year old grandson had this on his wish list - so I bought it, of course. He was so excited to receive this and has been playing with it constantly and wants more of the "bakugan" items. My son wanted Bakugan so badly that was all he wanted for Christmas and now he doesn't even play with it. Both my husband and I tried playing it with him it is so complicated that you can't understand the directions or how to play it. I would not recommend this item to people. Just what I wanted for my grandson. Could not find anywhere in the stores except for here. Received the pkg. in plenty of time for Christmas This is a great toy, but make sure to do your price comparisons on Bakugan items. Some of the items being sold by other sellers here on Amazon are over 300% more than the prices at other outlets. Between you and me this is a piece of junk, but it occupies my sons (ages 8 and 6) for hours, so I'm not complaining. Bakugan battle brawlers are here! Answer the call to brawl and decide the fate of the galaxy! Magnetic marbles POP open into power Bakugan warrior action figures when they roll onto the real metal Gate Cards! (Screature)
(Don't waste your time or money...)
(My 2 year Old Grand son)
(Confronting Fears) This was the hit of a birthday party, especially how it will spit water (if you don't fill the tank it won't). Very fun. My son really wanted this toy, so for his 8th birthday we got it for him. He was excited at first, but as time goes on (not even a month) he has lost interest in it completely. My girls that are 3 play with it everyday and he doesnt even care. It is pretty durable, I just dont think it is everything they say it is in the commercial. Doesn't work like it's supposed to. Ordered one through Amazon and the thing spit water one time and that was it. Purchased one locally at a store and it did the same thing. Exchanged that one and the 3rd one did the same. Needless to say that's it. Obviously there's a malfunction when it's supposed to spit the water. My grandson loved it but was very upset when it didn't do what was advertised. Don't waste your time or money.Mattel SCREATURE Interactive Dinosaur Although he loves watching it, but still he is afraid of it when it is active. Guess in a while he will warm up to it. Great toy for older kids. This toy is a little creepy, as others said before, but that's what makes it cool. Why do kids like Dinosaurs? Because they're scary. They startle the imagination with what it must have been like on Earth those days, and this toy does exactly that. My 3-year-old and I came across it in Walmart, and yes ... he WAS afraid of it, but hypnotically drawn to it at the same time. He wanted to explore those feelings, and I belive that's why he watches the Monitor Lizard episode of Zaboomafoo EVERY SINGLE DAY. He reads Dinosaur books for the same reason. I decided in the end not to get this toy for him right now ... maybe when he's older. The sounds are VERY life-like, and the movements are diverse. There are 12 unique sounds, and many combinations of movements. It reacts to "petting" and to motion ... making it a VERY life-like creature. I consider it a stretch toy for those wanting to explore dinosaurs. To be honest, the toy even scared me a little bit. Which, after all, is what dinosaurs should do, right? SCREATURE Interactive Dinosaur: Can you master Screature, or will you be his prey? Lifelike and realistic with ferocious sounds, Screature uses an infrared sensor to sense and attack his prey with your help. If you can control Screature, he will respond loyally to your petting, but if you pet him in the wrong place, Screature attacks. Set him in room guard mode and Screature will guard all your stuff. (Beautiful Disney Fairies Figurines)
(Cute but chintzy...)
(No Vidia? Sheeesh!!!!!!!)
(Ok for little ones going through a fairy phase) These figurines are beautiful and perfect for little imaginations. My two girls (3 and 5) have played for hours with them - in their princess castle as well as outside. I have purchased three sets of these fairies - one for each of my girls and one as a present for a friend. They have not disappointed us even after several months of playing. These fairies are the perfect size for little hands, encourage hours of imaginative play, and are excellent quality. The details on these fairies are lovely, much prettier than other sets I have seen. This set includes Six Fairies: Tinker Bell, Queen Clarion, Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta and Silvermist. The base or "stems" are made to pop in and out (another review mentioned that the stem broke off, but it probably would have popped back in if the reviewer realized this was one of the features of the figures) My daughters prefer to play without the stems so their fairies look like they are really flying, but the base/stem would be required to make the fairies stand on their own. Our set of fairy figurines have been played with frequently for several months by three children under the age of four and only one fairy has been damaged (one of her wings broke off and my husband glued it back on) Each base/stem has a sticker with the name of the fairy and all of our stickers fell off within a week, though it didn't matter much to my daughters since they are not yet reading and they play without the bases. This set of Disney fairies is the exact same set the Disney Store sells and Disney store sells it for much less money. My daughters have several of these figurine sets put out by the Disney Store and the detail tends to be much nicer than the Disney products found at other stores. My 8 year old daughter loves her fairies, and knows to be "gentle". The stems that allow the fairies to stand are very poorly constructed and one broke off the stem. My daughter was devestated and blamed herself. After discussion and demonstration she finally realized that it was not her fault she was only playing and the fairy fell off the coffee table onto the thickly padded carpet. For the money I spent, I am very dissatisfied. My kids are 'all fairy all the time' right now. They must have this set, or die. My complaint is NOT ENOUGH BAD GUYS. BORING!!!!! When they play with their Disney figures, you've got Jafar, Lady Tremaine, Ursula, and Maleficient one one side. On the other side is the entire collection of heroes, heroines, fairy godmothers, princesses, etc.
DISNEY TOY DESIGNERS: GIVE US MORE VILLAINS!!!! Vidia, Jasper&Horace, Black Pete, Agrabah Guards, Prince John, Sheriff of Nottingham, Shan Yu, and some pirates maybe? Tink, Rosetta, Queen Clarion, Silvermist, Iridessa, and Fawn - these are the characters you get with this set of figurines. They are great for creative play and make-believe, but not much else - you can't dress them, or move their arms or legs but little ones who love Tinker Bell and the characters from Pixie Hollow will like these figurines either as a collector's set or to play with. (Human Flood Combat Form)
(Halo Flood Combat Form HUMAN Review(figure/statue))
(Disgustingly cute...) The figure is great! Although it has only a few points of articulation, its cheap, extremely detailed, and very cool. Must have for any halo toy collector or action figure player. I bought this for my 8 year old son for his birthday. He loves it!!!! If you have played any Halo game, you can probably agree that the Flood is a scary foe. They are zombie-like in appearance, but extremely fast and strong in ability. They action figure of this creature is quite scary, because you can easliy relate the character to an experience you had in the game. This is a must for any Halo fan. The Mcfarlene Toys(Tood Mcfarlene popular for making the Spawn comic books and novels) Halo series is an amazing series of beautifully sculpted species, people and other things in the Haloverse. The figures in general however, have problems with production problems leading to stiff joints, bad scaled weapons and the like.
However, the Flood Combat Form doesn't actually share those. I'll keep it simple. It is a very detailed figure, more of a statue with a pivoting arm and leg. Which is fine, I keep my figures as a way to ornate my desks, mantles and such. The gun accessory it came with, an SMG, fits well enough to stay in there when the figure isn't moved. It has a hard time standing and needs the black plastic plate that comes with it to hold itself up(the figure is very irregular in shape, the weight only seems distributed to one leg). To prevent stress from the peg and peg hole as the feet are not even with each other, I just put a bunch of coins under his right foot. Now it looks balanced and really cool to show off on top of a fireplace or desk. It looks plenty horrifying as it always had in the games.
Generally its not meant to be played with or articulated/posed much, more of a statuette. Same can be said for some of the other Halo figures. I'd recommend a buy. Make your desk look cool! Writing this on behalf of my 10yo. Human flood is perhaps the most disgusting of his extensive HALO collection. However, it is very well made, and very graphic in appearance. He absolutely loves it! This character would make a nice addition to any HALO collection. A pleasant change from the usual Master Chief and Arbiter fare. The Flood also known as the Parasite by the Covenant, is a species of virulent, savage, parasitic organisms that thrive by consuming sentient life forms of sufficient biomass and cognitive capability. Combat forms are most damaging at close range, utilizing their whip-like mutated arms to lash out with scourging blows of significant force. Rerations < Halo 3 Flood Combat Human >
