customer 's review (Beware of bootlegs!)
(Great figures!)
(Mini Final Fantasy Fun!)
(Damn CUTE!)
(A good set) I just received a set of these in the mail today from a certain vendor here on Amazon who sold me a set of incredibly shappy bootlegs. I had purchased several from a neighborhood store a while ago, which as the other review describe, these are great in terms of detail and quality... when they're not bootlegged. Comparing a duplicate to the real thing it was very clear--the pieces came out of the mold lumpy and had been badly cut and trimmed. The paint was cheap and very badly done, possibly the worst part because it ruins the little facial expressions. Just awful. With close inspection, you can tell the box was made using a hazy scan of the real thing, more noticeable against a real box. The bootleggers really went all out to make the boxes look convincing, but the contents are utter rubbish.
In the vendor's defense, they may have not looked closely through the wrapping when they were checking the figures to make the set, as the boxes are very convincing. These figures are so cute and so detailed for their size. I love mini figures, and these are some of the best. The detail stuns me. The only problem is, the feet don't fit in the stands very well. With some force, twisting, and lots of patience, I got four of the five into their stands, but Cloud's left foot will not fit into the stand. And Cloud's sword doesn't fit into his hand either. I have the handle balanced between his elbow and hair, which stays fine and looks just like he's holding it. But these little problems are offset by how cute they are. Overall, this is an amazing product and a must for any Final Fantasy collection. The level of detail they've achieved on such small figures is pretty impressive! Each of the characters are instantly recognizable. Also notable is that this set includes Penelo. For some reason, the American Square-Enix store sells this as a four piece set, leaving her out.
One important thing to note is that the figures look just a bit different than the ones in the picture. Though this is the case with most toys (as the pictures are likely of the prototypes and--especially at this scale--you'll never get the mass-produced products to look *exactly* the same as the prototypes), in this case they're a tad more different than usual (but not neccisarily "off"). Regardless, they still look good, and are so incredibly cute displayed on their little stands!
The only real complaints are that Cloud holds his sword at an ackward angle, and it's a little hard to get said sword into his hand. It's molded as a seperate piece, and it's a pretty tight fit. As another reviewer noted, it's also a bit difficult to get the little guys onto their stands (especially Yuna), but thankfully this is something you only have to do once.
Overall, a worthwhile and enjoyable buy for Final Fantasy fans that want to liven up their room or office! They're are just damn cute! Love them so much. I like Vann the most.looks so cute.:) Now they've been on my study table, standing in front of my 22" lcd monitor. Love 'em! (",) These figures are actually well detailed for their size. Great for display, they come with clear plastic stands. I had a little trouble getting them to fit on the stands at first because the holes were kind of tight, but a little persistance paid off. The figures are a little over two inches tall and are very cute. Your favorite characters from the FINAL FANTASY series are now available as a set of 4 collectable miniatures! Featuring Cloud from FINAL FANTASY VII, Rinoa from FINAL FANTASY VIII, Yuna from FINAL FANTASY X and Vaan from FINAL FANTASY XII. customer 's review (knows lots of names, seems interesting ...) My son received this for his 1st birthday and does not know Dora or Diego yet. He was immediately drawn to the toy and after I wrangled it out of the package, he held it. His torso is a rectangular heavy plastic part. In his back, there is a velcro strip behind which is battery pack, on/off switch and USB cord port. To program child's name, you install cd to computer (which takes way longer than expected). Then you have to connect Diego to computer via cord and wait for computer to recognize "human interface" hardware. then you can run program, choose child's name (includes some pretty unusual ones, but they say you can call in if you have one that's not listed), choose child's favorite color, food, animal, friend's name. You can also program child's bday, wake up time, snack time bedtime (I skipped these). Then Diego will say, Hola xxx, Soy Diego. Come on xx, elrequeste to the rescue. xxx I know you like to eat fruit, I like to eat that too. The voice is clear. When it's going to turn off, it says Hasta Luego xxx, see you soon.
I guess Diego speaks some Spanglish, but you would think you could choose spanish given that this is a Teddy Ruxpin-ish doll that can be programmed in other ways. Diego Knows Your Name is a 12-inch plush doll that incorporates your child's name and favorite things into their friendly character phrases and songs. (A hobbyist's view)
(Get me off the carpet and off the floor!!,....human!)
(EXPENSIVE BUT INCREDIBLY ADVANCED)
(Great Robot, Limitted Replay Value) I like the robot enough that I bought another. I consider the toy to be potentially educational because it can be programmed to do a series of steps. I can see it is versitile and fun. With practice it is fairly easy to run the little guy around and pick up light items.
If I have any issues with the toy, it is that I'd like more support for programming it. Mainly to allow making 'skits' and shows something like what comes with the i-sobot. Tomy should make a PC or Mac based program to keep and aid making more complicated programs to load into the robot.
Like every product, I-Sobot has it's good and bad parts. For example, it's an incredibly agile machine with 17 servoes and an internal gyroscope (something that many larger bots do not come with standard). Coupled with limited voice recognition (not simply sound detection), sound effects/speech, and programmability, it's an impressive piece of hardware. It's got a helpful community that supports it with things like the third-party solution "Robodance" that allows you to control it with a laptop and even with the Nintendo Wii controllers.
The not-so-good? It has no fully-autonomus mode, i.e. no obstacle or edge-detection. It also has more limited battery life than other entertainment robots like the Robosapien line (it does come with rechargeable batteries and its own charger so the power situation is somewhat mitigated). Also it's a tad fragile (I wouldn't push it down the stairs).
Depending on the intended use of the robot, users may like it or not. I-Sobot is good for a simple and yet flashy introduction to robot programming and behavior (not to mention many of its more witty routines). It is not as versatile as a Robonova, but then it doesn't cost anywhere near the 'Nova's price. Reading other reviews I can clearly see others did not read the safety instructions. This is a table bot,not meant to mingle w/ the elements. As far as the surface you need for i-sobot to live healthy,I suggest a large square of foamboard or artboard atop a level table. It's acid free, non-slippery,cushions because it's made of foam between paper, and can be found easily.I glue 2 foamboard together to prevent warping over time. This is a delicate robot that likes to incorporate falling backwards in his routine of tickle me' and other tricks. On a shiny smooth table,he will likely fall over accidently. And the carpet thing, forget it,he will die.
You will be amazed beyond what you may have seen on the i-sobot demo video or read of this humanoid.Comes w/ key if he gets loose joints and special eneloop batts and charger.Even the carrying case is impressive.
If you are considering a smart humanoid robot, this is it,no question. The 2 I have do everything Tomy promises.
I have been a fan of robot toys ever since I received an original Lost in Space robot for Christmas when I was just a little kid. That began a life long love affair with robot toys. From Transformers to Go-Bots, Shogun Warriors to 1950's tin lithograph toys, to the Japanese Mecha toys like Gundam and Votoms, I've collected them all. But I've never seen anything quite like TOMY's i-Sobot, easily the most sophisticated robot toy ever made.
Standing about 7" tall, the i-Sobot is capable of movements, which dwarf any robot toy that has come before. Forwards, backwards, side-to-side, diagonal and that's just the tip of the iceberg. This toy is so articulated and so nimble, that it can do handstands, the splits, somersaults, and other exercises. It can perform complicated martial arts moves like karate chops, roundhouse kicks, combo punches and back kicks. Oh, but were just getting started on the hundreds of moves that this wireless remote control wonder can pull off.
i-Sobot is a total ham when it comes to performing in front of a captive audience. I had a group of friends over not long ago to watch a basketball game and we spent a good two hours playing with the i-Sobot. Everyone wanted a turn! This guy can dance a hula or perform a scene from a western movie. He can play air guitar and impersonate different animals. He can display an incredible range of emotions including excitement, regret, pain, worry, love, and more. But this guy doesn't just move around, he also talks in a vibrant, clear voice and has a vocabulary of over 200 words and phrases.
The i-Sobot has four different operating modes. There is the standard remote control mode which allows you to move him around at will and perform any of several dozen different actions. These are classified by type of action and include punch, kick, and guard actions, common phrases and greetings, emotional actions, showcased actions and mystery actions. The Special Action mode features a number of different complicated longer actions. These include the aforementioned animal imitations, tropical dance, and western scene as well as a Tai Chi performance. The i-Sobot comes with a voice recognition chip allowing you to have it perform several actions in voice control mode. Finally, the program mode allows you to program in your own actions from the remote control and special action menus to give it your own unique movements. There are three memory blocks, each allowing you to program up to 80 actions.
So what allows for all of this agile movement, realistic sounds and complex programming? The I-Sobot features 17 servomotors and a built-in gyro sensor and speaker. There is an IR remote control that can transmit on two different bands with two LED lights on the i-Sobot. The robot is powered by 3 AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries, which come included in the package along with a battery charger. The robot should work up to ten hours on a charge. The remote control unit is powered by three standard AA batteries (those are not included).
If you leave your i-Sobot on, don't worry, he will bother you several times asking for a command before going into sleep mode after six minutes of inactivity. If you're toy assembly challenged, don't worry. The i-Sobot comes full assembled. All you have to do is charge the batteries and install them and you're ready to go. The toy works beautifully. It's as fluid as it seems although you do have to use it on a flat surface. DON'T try it on a table, however. i-Sobot likes his space and he's liable to tumble right off if he's performing one of his complex maneuvers.
Have a care though, this is a toy meant for kids who are a bit older. You will need, from time to time make minor adjustments to the joints as the servos get out of alignment over time. Instructions on this are included in the 34-page operating manual. The i-Sobot isn't cheap. The MSRP is $349.00 although most online retailers have it in the $229.00 range. This is one of the most unique and advanced toys I've ever seen! I bought this robot for my 8 year old son. He loved it so much he almosted fainted.
The battery had to be charged overnight before he could play with the robot.
The robot has a fun personality and can do a whole bunch of amazing things, like getting up from lying down or all sorts of karate moves.
But after he's played all the moves, he started to get bored. There is a program mode, where you can chain up a series of moves, but it's still all the same moves. There is a remote control mode, where you can walk the robot around, but I can't get the robot to pick anything up using the arms or move each limb/motor individually.
I guess if I bought another and had a sumobot competition, it might bring some of the excitement back to owning this amazing piece of technology. He might be pocket-sized, but this miniature high-tech humanoid robot packs a huge punch. i-SOBOT is a 6.5-inch biped bot that's fully articulated, features voice command recognition and can speak a vocabulary of over 200 words and phrases. What's more, he can dance, perform his own special karate moves complete with self sound effects, and can motor forwards, backward, side-to-side or diagonally. He'll even lay down when he's had enough - and get back up again when it's time to go.i-SOBOT is powered by 17 customs developed servo-motors and 19 integrated circuit chips. He features a built-in gyro sensor and comes fully assembled, ready for action. He can be controlled in a variety of ways: by pre-programmed actions, user programmed actions (done easily with the LCD remote control), or by real-time remote control or voice commands. Robot requires 3 "AAA" rechargeable batteries; remote requires 4 "AAA" batteries, all included. Measures 6.5" tall. There's no shortage of fun with the amazing i-SOBOT, the World's Smallest Robot. Packed with over 200 words and phrases, and more than 200 pre-programmed movements, this robot can do everything from saying goodbye to dancing the hula. Recommended for kids aged 10 and up, the i-SOBOT is ready to rock 'n' roll right out of the box.
The i-Sobot has freely moving joints and can dance. View larger. |

The i-Sobot offers up to 220 degrees of movement. View larger. | Smooth Robotic Movement With unbelievably smooth robotics, the i-SOBOT walks more like a human than a robot. This fully-functional and fully-assembled robot features 17 custom designed actuators and gyro-sensor, allowing it to keep balance and freely move joints for impressive performance, vivid movement, and incredible flexibility. Other main components include a built-in speaker unit and built-in microphone with a voice recognition chip. With built-in clutches and metal gears, the i-SOBOT offers up to 220-degree movement. The two infrared transmission bands allow the robot to be operated with an LCD remote control.Robots Moves From Talking To Dancing Also performing by programmable memory and by the sound of your voice, the i-SOBOT will make your day and impress your friends with his moves. Putting the meaning back into "action-packed," the 6.5-inch tall robot dances to the beat, does push-ups and somersaults, imitates animals, hula dances, plays air guitar, kicks and punches with sound effects, and even responds to applause. Not only does the i-SOBOT talk with a vocabulary of 200 words and phrases, it also plays its own music. customer 's review (I Could Not Be Happier With This Purchase!)
(Not really the same)
(25th anniversary is good...just...good) Perfect for the collecter! My love for Joe toys is largely based on the art work. This box set has art work on the front flap, a beautiful window beneath which allows for dispalying the figures in the unopened packaged, and tons of art work on the back! There's also 5 personnel file cards included that are already cut out! Also comes with a super cool GI Joe Logo that can be displayed with the figs if one should choose to remove them from the display box - and it plays the GI Joe battle cry!! I lucked out and paid approximately $[...] for this set, but even at 20-some dollars, I would consider it money well spent. They're kind of close to the real G.I. Joes of my childhood, but not really the same. They're clearly lower-quality products. There are more joints, but none of them move very well, and they're kind of overkill - my figures arms don't need to move in 4 places. The waist join is kind of floppy, so they don't stand up very well, and the head is strangely forward, so they look like they're hunched over a bit.
On a good note, they do all come with a lot of guns, knives, belts, and so forth. They must have saved that extra plastic from around the waist and put it into making guns. They're ok as a nostalgic piece of fun, but they're not the same. Then again, what is? These could have been a far better tribute to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Real American Hero line. The plastic is not as good as what they used back in the 80's, the articulation is slightly improved in some areas, but it's made worse in more areas.
The figures do not sit well as they have only a twist joint at the waist and do not bend. The top of the thigh is restricted by the waist/lower torso piece as well so the legs will not bend to a 90 degree angle.
The sculpting is good and the weapon detail is really nice. These are much better display figures than play figures.
Hopefully they'll improve the next waves or they'll lose a collector or three...

(Fun for the boys!)
(great toy)
(It's good.)
(Just like on TV) My son received this toy today. He loves it, but can't figure out how to get the decipher light to come on. Not sure if it's broken or haven't figured out how to turn it on. It did not come with instructions.
I have three boys- I purchased two of these for my oldest two. They love it- the battery lasts forever. It is a little more animated than most toy cell phones. They still play with it months later, which is sometimes rare!! Just bought this toy for my sister's son and he loves it more than any of his other toys that he got for his birthday. It makes sounds and talks and has a lite. He carries it everywhere he goes. I recommend this toy to all kids. This one appears to be an almost exact replica of those used in the show. It's well made, and imitates certain sound effects. One of the cool options is a "decipher" tool that allows you to view "secret messages" hidden on the scan-cards. Other then that it's very similar to those $1 toys that you can purchase from the street merchants. I'm not quite sure if it's worth $27 but the kids seem to like it, and I suppose that's all that matters. My son likes this morpher because it sounds like the one on TV. It has more features than the other morphers because you have the zord calling feature, dialing and the power up feature. He thinks its cool. Be a Power Ranger Operation Overdrive with this cool gear! These high-tech gadgets are used by the Power Rangers in every episode to decipher clues to help them find the missing treasures. Each morpher includes an awesome black light decoder that enables kids to decode and decipher clues on the exclusive in-pack cards. The keypad activates sounds, including unique sequences.
