I received this megablox set as a gift from my parents for some decoration in my dorm room. I used to love legos when I was younger, and always had fun playing around (mostly smashing) what I had made. However, the lego sets were super expensive and I only owned a couple.
Comparatively speaking, these megablox sets are much cheaper, and depending on your plans for these Halo sets it might be worth it.
Of course as a college student there isn't much play going on with the completed model, and I intend to use it specifically for display purposes. Construction was rather involved, but nothing too ridiculously hard. Anyone in their teens and up should be able to grasp the diagrams and assemble the vehicle successfully.
The mini action figure is a great addition and adds to the detailed and display quality look of the set as a whole.
Overall, I'd say I'm very happy with this gift and would recommend it to any Halo enthusiast looking for a neat and nostalgic display piece. For children you may want to look elsewhere.』

The directions were unclear but more of a problem was the fact that some essential parts of the build were ill fitting and did not withstand having other pieces built on top at later points in the construction. In the end we resorted to super glue to hold bits togther but there are still gaps that don't look so hot! My son is ahead of most kids in in building/mechanical skills dept.My father in law is an engineer and always marvels at his abilities. That being said my son is a LEGO master. TRIO are nothing like LEGOS. I cannot stress that enough. They remind me of Kinex for younger kids. TRIO not only has small blocks that only snap one way (unlike legos where there are multiple ways to stick them together) they also have these rods that take alot of patience and strength to fit the blocks together. That is the whole selling point of TRIO. That you can build little bugs,fences, and ferris wheels that look a bit more realistic than Legos. And you can. The TRIO Firefighter set is only an extension of that. It is not really a toy to play with on its own unless your child has and LOVES his TRIO beginner set. It is like when you get a special Lego set. you have to virtually use every piece in the box to make what it is your child is supposed to play with. Again if your child likes TRIO it is ok. I am just not very impressed with TRIO as a whole. My son gets more frustrated than not if he tries to play with them alone. He likes his dad to put things together. He will request "a garage" or something. With Legos he builds himself. Once assembled, the coaster took much adjustment in order to work properly and wouldn't remain in working order because the supports didn't hold the track in place for more than a few runs.
As far as being able to reuse the parts to build another coaster, I would say "not" because the support parts quickly lost their shape and didn't hold very well to begin with.
Even though the coaster looks pretty cool when assembled, that's about it. 』
(Coaster Fun!) 『I always liked building toys as a kid and the loopin lighning doesn't dissapoint. It took my son about 4 hours to assemble and another couple to get working. You need to be very precise and lots of tinkerking to get the coaster to work but the education value is worth it.』
(It is fun and hard and reusable.) 『I got this for my son (7) for Christmas, on a whim, because he had noticed it on a sweep of the K'nex aisle in Target about a year ago. I am over electronic games right now, and this was an extra "guilt" gift to mask the totally analogue Christmas. He built it yesterday, and it was a wonderful, challenging experience, and a huge success. It looks really cool when it's just running.
Cautions: -The instructions are all visual. My son is a Lego veteran, and so is fairly confident about interpreting these images (which are like gibberish to me).
-When they say 7+, they really mean 7+. Otherwise, plan for a joint venture.
-The bendy track is somewhat fragile! I could see where the bendy track weakened from being disconnected roughly. It is soft plastic.
-Counting the chain links...ugh. I did that part.
Praises: -It is a challenge that pays off. My son tried shortcuts when he thought he could, and used trouble shooting to figure out sticking points or flaws. There's definitely an "I did this!" factor to it, when it is up and running.
-Gravity is still kind of awesome, you have to admit.
-It's reusable! There are plans for additional configurations on the K'Nex website, and of course it can just go into the giant K'nex bin under the bed for free building.
-The process itself is valuable. After admiring the finished roller coaster, he moved right into "what happens if I...[run both cars together, move track, simulate crashes, run it backwards, tape figures/people onto the cars, etc]." Obviously a precursor to destruction, but lots of exploration along the way.
In short, it is an inexpensive kit, a fun way to spend time with your kid, and it provides a sense of accomplishment for the builder.』

(A good gift for a bionicle, lego nut) 『This set was on my lego and bionicle nut 10-year old nephews "most wanted toys" list for Christmas. It was also the first gift he played with. (Beating out this time around, his other favorites - Star Wars, Power Miners, and Indiana Jones sets.)
Like another reviewer's son, he's been playing with bionicles for over 5 years - so this was not overly challenging for him to put together. Took him just an hour or two, though he played with it all day.
It has particular appeal, because it contains two bionicle characters and two different vehicles they can drive separately or can be connected. And, at around thirty bucks that make it a pretty good value as well. (One thing I've learned about Lego set appeal is that the more characters and drivable vehicles the greater the appeal and on-going imagination-based play.)
As with all Lego sets, costs can vary dramatically from place to place, and it's always a good idea to compare. In fact, as some of you Amazon toy buyers may know -since they use a variety of vendors to supply these, costs can change daily.』

By the end of the 75+ page book (we would work ~ 10-12 pages per session before he would begin to get frustrated) I was impressed at the way he was correctly interpreting the directions and putting complex pieces together three-dimensionally. Not only is the toy durable and able to be actively played with (unlike some of our standard Lego toys), it was a fun learning tool for him to practice following detailed assembly instructions and he is eager to try another one. We've bought several over the years and my 3 boys love to build and create complex tracks. This one is quite different from those we've purchased in the past. The magnetic aspect offers a new twist, along with the lights and sound. The instructions were tricky at first as yes, they are all picture-based. Each track piece has a shape printed at each end, and you have to match it to the photo in the manual. Once you get the hang of it though it's quite simple. My 9-year-old and I like to build tracks, and my 3 year-old likes to offer suggestions and operate them when we are done. It's easy to disconnect and put away when you are through. We got this during an Amazon one-day sale at a great price, and it was worth it.』

My son is probably on the young age for it (4.5 years) but he has fun watching the marbles roll around. He gets board with the layouts and always wants to build a new one. The toy came with an insert that appears to fix a few design flaws by adding extended tracks in areas that are designed as a u-turn so the ball doesn't fall off the ramp before turning around. We got it on sale at christmas for 29.99. I would not pay full price of 99.99 for it. Many reviewers complained that you need to suppply your own line in for the MP3 player function to work. I did not buy this for my son to rock out to my favorite songs so i don't see that as a big issue, the supplied music and lights are entertaining enough for my kids. I think this will get a lot more use when my son is about 2 years older and into legos and building model planes.』
(A great activity for my 14 year old son and I to do together!) 『My son and I like putting things together and have done so over the years with various products (from Playmobil to K'Nex). The problem with those is there is only one way to do it and once it's set up, it's cool for a little while, but then just seems to take up tons of space.
The iCoaster is different. It can be put together a multitude of ways, so it engages the child in creative thinking. Although the directions include numerous ways to build it, it isn't limited to those.
Once built, it's fun to use. And then it can be disassembled and redesigned. It also can be put away neatly in a box when not in use.
The downside for us is that it isn't as complex as the other brands I mentioned (way fewer pieces...which, for many, may be an upside). It's also easy to lose the little magnetic balls, which are about the size of marbles.
I got this on Black Friday, at a VERY good price (about 70% off). Overall, we really like and recommend it. However, I have to say, I think that normally, it is way overpriced for what you get.』

(Fun for smart kids (and adults)) 『My sons, ages 11 and 12 have wanted this for a LONG time so when I saw it on sale, I bought it for my younger son's birthday last month. They LOVE it....they spent hours playing with it for the first couple of days, and still take it out several times a week to put it together in different designs.
Some reviewers complain that it's difficult to put together/flimsy/falls apart, etc. but we've had none of those problems. My boys didn't need any help putting it together and made it into several different designs in one evening without any assistance (just read the directions).
They also had enough sense to put it together on a hard surface (not carpet) so it tipping over wasn't a problem either. They've had no problems hooking it up to their iPod either (video iPod, 2nd Gen). You do need to have a certain type of cord which isn't included.

This one gives details for two dinosaurs and the rest are just pictured so you have to try and guess which pieces make that dinosaur. (fun and educational dinosaur toy) 『I purchased this product for my eight year old daughter who is crazy about dinosaurs. It is hard to find dinosaur toys for girls that are not overly boyish AND not overly cutesy. I choose this toy not only because it was dinosaur-themed but because it seemed like it would promote fine motor skills and thinking skills. The directions are not very detailed which is good and bad. It is good because you actually have to think and apply logic to assemble your dinosaur of choice (one of our hopes for the toy). Bad because it can be frustrating and difficult for a child to figure out. With my help we had no problems, but it did take us about 30 minutes to put together the velocoraptor. I would recommend this toy for kids interested in dinosaurs and who like to build things. We have never bought a K-nex product before (my husband was/is a Lego nut) but will gladly purchase more in the future.』
