Our three year old has had a great time with this truck. It seems very durable and has now stood up to six months of abuse from him. It has been inside and outside and lived through all of it. I strongly recommend it for a three year old.

(Best Selection as a child's first R/C vehicle)

I picked this toy out for my grandson. He loves it. It is a very durble toy.
My nephew LOVES this little R/C digger! He is three and loves ALL diggers and construction type play vehicles, but this was his first R/C vehicle. He actually got a couple of other types of R/C vehicles for his third birthday, but seems to like this one the best. It has a lot of "play value" even when not using the R/C. Then, of course, he loves the main feature of being able to use the digger with the R/C. So far the toy seems very durable, and it's nice that it comes with a play set that includes a few other accessories (boulders to mover around and road blocks to make the "play" more realistic)! It was very easy for him to figure out his first time playing with it, and we had a hard time getting him back to opening other gifts after he opened that one, so you might want to make this the last gift in the "line-up!" :-) Hope your little one ejnoys it as much as ours!

As others eluded to, it states that you can switch into a freewheeling mode, but even following the directions on the Learning Curve website's FAQ page, 2 of these did not work. I returned the first one after speaking with Learning Curve. They told me that if it won't freewheel, then it is defective and to return it. Replacement unit did the same thing, click every time I push it.

Some off-brand wooden track also is not very compatible with this train. I had some Imaginarium track, and the grooves in the track are about a millimeter narrower than the Thomas and Brio track. Battery-Powered Thomas doesn't quite fit with all wheels in the grooves, so it derails on this track constantly.

I have had pretty good luck eliminating other derailments of this train (with Brio and Thomas track) by using SureTrack clips on areas of my layouts that tend to not stay very straight. These clips are pricey, but they help avoid a lot of frustration when a toddler is destroying the track layouts with every other push of a train. I bought 1 box, which is enough to keep key pieces aligned on most layouts.

Overall, it has been fun for the few days we have had it, but I am very disappointed that it won't enter free-wheeling mode. I guess I will have to buy the wooden Thomas now as well.
I've gone through two of them, neither lasted more than a few hours. Extremely frustrating. Advertised as being able to 'roll' when not turned on (so kids can't play with it manually) but I fear that might be causing the breakdowns. Internal engine is not very durable, despite external die cast metal being pretty solid. Not sure if I will return or tear it apart to try and find out why they keep breaking.
This tiny Thomas train is very powerful! It can move forward in spite of any obstacles. If you want this train run on the rail, you have to make sure that the wheels are clean. Clean wheels guarantee its fearless rush. What makes me amazed is it just needs single AA size battery and lasts quite a long time!!
Bought this Thomas Train for my sons 3rd birthday. He can play with it for hours on end. After doing some research on similar trains by Brio I came to the conclusion that, while this one didn't have some extra features like the others, it was the most durable of the battery powered wooden engines. It has lasted so far and I don't change the batteries that often. I did purchase rechargable batteries so we could have endless hours of thomas circling his track.

It's not that expensive and it's easy to use, this is a fun toy!
Battery-powered Thomas has now replaced our 10-year old "Sit-'n-Spin" as the most-played with toy for our 3 daughters. We bought the new Thomas to replace our old one, which endured a trip through our daughter's hair (had to be cut out and was never quite the same) and a swim in the toilet. The old model went forward and backwards (cool!) but the switch was very difficult for toddlers' fingers to manipulate (not cool). The new Thomas goes forward only, but the on/off button is very easy to use. We have had problems with Thomas. Sometimes he just dies, and then miraculously begins working later. Also, since the new Thomas has a headlight (cool!), he's a battery junkie (not cool). It is common for us to go through a battery every day. I now keep rechargeable batteries at the ready, as I'm sick of funding Thomas' indulgences. Thomas does jump the track more often than he should, but that doesn't seem to upset our kids, and therefore I don't care. The problems prevent me from awarding Thomas 5 stars, but his popularity with our kids earns him 4 stars. That said, I'm going to follow through with one of the other reviewer's suggestions and buy a Brio engine next.

This Thomas the Tank can run practically anywhere a youngsters imagination sees track thanks to its powerful four-wheel drive. Its easy-start button and auto shutdown feature make it super simple for kids as young as 3 years old to operate. It even has a light. All it requires is single AA battery.

There is so much to see on this thing. I can sit with my 3-year old and just watch it go around and around for a long time. There's so many moving parts and lights...perfect for little kids.

Make sure you DO NOT put the power clip on the part of the track with holes. It looks like an obvious spot, but you can't get power that way. You have to put it right on the main rail.

This is our first year with it set up...just hope it lasts many more.
I got this train set and 6 additional cars four Christmas' ago. And while it can be a bit frustrating at times, it's beauty and detail have always been worth it. Well, last Christmas, my youngest son tripped over the tender and broke it. When I called New Bright for a replacement, their ill-mannered customer service department replied "They don't sell replacement parts, and don't know of any dealers that do." So basically, I'm stuck with a $400 train set that is now useless and they couldn't care less. VERY POOR customer service - Buyers BEWARE!!!

This is a great train to go around the Christmas tree.Just make sure that the track is snapped together firmly, and all cars are hooked together. The engine won't go by itself, at least one of the other cars has to be attached. It definitely needs to be supervised by an adult, if little ones are operating it.

We bought this truck for my sons 2 birthday. I chose this paticular one because it was made by Fisher Price, who I've allways thought made very fun and sturdy toys. However, the white ladder keeps popping of with just the slightest amount of pressure. The rest of the truck is well made. The sirens are very realistic and not to loud. The Michael figure bends at the hips, he fits well into the seats. If only the ladder stayed on. I will think twice about choosing Fisher Price over other brands now.
My son saw this in the store and I ordered it as a surprise for him. He loves to push the siren button and push the truck across the room. He puts "Michael" in every seat on the truck and pretends to spray the water. The ladder and cones are a nice touch and lend it some realism. I am thinking of getting the construction truck next since this one was such a hit. My son is 16 months and loves anything with wheels and sounds.
My son got this for his 2nd birthday about 8 months ago and he adores it. The fact that you activate flashing lights and siren by pressing the bar on the truck cab accounts for a large part of its attractiveness. The little man who bends at the hips(Michael) fits easily into the cab or the ladder seat, and other Little People without bendable legs, including animals, can fit in the seats as well. The hose with nozzle and nozzle on the ladder "to spray Wawa!" (water) are popular features. It is durable and rolls well, and has stood up to being knocked off shelves and tables. The batteries haven't needed replacing though it is played with daily. We have misplaced the cones and little axe (which was popular to start with) as they are small, but that doesn't decrease its play value. I am also happy that Michael is not a blond white kid (having an "ethnic" toddler myself)

My main complaint is that the white ladder is NOT fixed onto the grey swivel seat. It only "clamps" pincerlike onto little bumps, and the way it is positioned, any pushing down on it causes it to lever off with great ease. I have to listen to "help me! help me!" constantly when my son plays with it, as within minutes of me replacing the ladder, his little hands knock it off again. And though easy to lever off, it is not as easy to put on, ie takes an adult. I admit to often hiding the tall white ladder so I am not forced to replace it over and over. The truck is still very usable without that ladder, but it is a shame that in a vehicle so well built in general, that Fisher Price didn't use metal screws or some other proper fixation method to ensure that it stays on. It is the only Fisher Price item we own that is illconceived for hands-on play and I hope they fix this in future editions.

I highly recommend it nonetheless for toddlers. Great play value they'll keep coming back to.
I got this for my son who will be two in febuary. He loves this toy. The lights and sirens are a big deal on this. I took away alot of the small parts that i thought would be a choking hazard.truck is a good size. He loves this toy and so do i.
My 3 1/2 yr old grandson wanted a firetruck that made noise. Saw this one and knew it would be the answer. It makes all the right sounds-- not too loud or too obnoxious. And he loved the people and detachable pieces that go with it.
Overall, I think it answered his request quite well.

I bought this as a birthday present for my two year old son. It ended up being the toy he played with (and abandoned all the rest) on his birthday. He plays the alphabet song over and over. Surprisingly my nearly 4 year old loves it too, but she plays with it differently. She uses the function where one of the character says a word and then she has to press which letter the word starts with. I was delighted to hear her repeating the words, sounding them out and then selecting the correct starting letter. Great educational toy. They have lots of fun driving it around as a bus too. Only drawback so far is that it is very loud and there is no volume control (other than the off switch).
I bought this for my 2 year son at christmas time and he absolutely loves it..Hes a typical boy who likes to throw things and I am glad that we have had it for 5 months now and its still like new..I love that it teaches ABC's and is very educational..I am sure your child will love it as much as mine!The thing I love is that when hes done playing with it the bus turns itself off and it actually says "Bye bye see you later!" I would definitley recommend this toy!
This Alphabet Bus is awesome helping toddlers learn their ABCs. It not only sings the alphabet song but it tells you the letter when pressed and it tells you words that begin with the specific letters. At 19 months, my daughter loved it! The alphabet song can be memorized with time but this toy teaches letter recognition... awesome for learning! I would HIGHLY recommend this toy for learning ABCs and Letter Recognition. Money well spent!
The kids love this toy! It goes through the alphabet and says words beginning with each letter. It also has a nice off switch on the back for when you are tired of hearing it. Over all a great educational toy, especially if your kids like sesame street!

I bought this for my son's 3rd birthday. He may not be old enough to set up the tracks himself, but it's fun to do together and he easily learned how to rev up the car. This one is a good starter kit because it has a few ways to change the layout, comes with a car and isn't too expensive. The quality of the parts and car is very good, not flimsy, like it'll break easily. Also, you can't over-rev the car, which means younger kids can't break it. I'm already thinking of adding to the tracks and cars!
We got this as a Christmas gift for our son. It was rather disappointing to open it on December 25 and realize it was missing not one, but two pieces. The missing parts were one of the straightaways and the smaller of the two flex-track pieces. We were unable to assemble the kit without them. I did call Darda customer service today and they are going to ship the pieces out soon.

The track looks fun, so I hope it performs well once we have all the parts.

After reading many reviews for the various Hot Wheels sets and talking with friends and relatives about their experiences, I was determined to find a decent set for my 6.5 year old son. This set has lived up to our expectations. It is fairly easy to put together. My son could do it with minimal help. The size of the set will not take up a whole room. And the car uses no batteries and performs well. It is able to do all the loops with ease. I may even buy add-on sets for it.
A more complex track layout means more loops, more thrills, and even more possibilities! Kids can power up the Porsche Boxster to go totally upside-down five times in a row - or create their own gravity defying layouts! Includes 1 car and illustrated instructions for 3 layouts. Ages 4+.
