This is a great product! I was a little worried about the track not staying together b/c I read the other reviews but my son got it for his 2nd bday and we haven't had any problems. Its cheaper and just the right size for tots. He has some of the track master sets but they are a little too advanced for him. He loves this one and I think it is a perfect starter set.
My 4 year old has been an avid Thomas fan for about 2 years now. We had gotten a lot of the wooden railway stuff as hand-me-downs from older cousins and he's played with them religiously. Over the last 2 years, we have picked up a bunch of the Take Along engines since they are much less expensive than the wooden railway cars. He loves them too, but complains because they "bump" on the wooden track. The roundhouse is the first Take Along playset we have gotten (although more are coming for his birthday soon) and he is completely enthralled with it. I'm not sure why people are complaining about it. Comparing it to the wooden railway is like comparing apples to oranges. Yes, the wooden railway is more durable -- however, it is also twice as expensive. We don't find that this track is difficult for him to put together himself or that it falls apart. He's had no problems at all with it. The engines fit in as well - perhaps some other people are trying to put some of the wooden railway cars into it - they will not fit. Yes, the track has to be put into the roof "just so" in order for it to close -- so what! It literally takes about 2 minutes for an adult to figure out how to put it in -- they even imprinted the track on the bottom to make it easier. It's a toy -- it's not rocket science, people! :-)

Anyway, we love Take Along and Thomas in general -- it has given my son hours of enjoyment and I expect many more hours to come.
After comparing the wooden railway and the take along roundhouse, i decided with the take along. It's portable, and my 3 and a half year old really loves the bright colors. It's not as sturdy as the wooden one, because my son pulled out the bottom piece. That's ok,though, you can just pop it back in. My son will only play with this for about 6 months before he gets tired of it anyway and that's worth the lower price. By the way, the take along trains are die cast, and much "nicer" than the wooden railway trains which DO chip easily. As for the complaints that the trains do not fit in it, they do fit, you have to do it carefully. The tracks fit, too. You just have to pay attention to how they are packaged when you first buy it, so that you know how to put them back in. You can't just stuff the tracks in.
This wasn't as much fun as it looked and also isn't as user friendly as you'd think. My son got this for Christmas from his Grandma and we thought it would fit our other Thomas the Train parts, but it doesn't. This is a mini version or something. The tracks are too hard for my 3 year old and 5 year old to get together without asking for my help, which is annoying when you want toys to entertain your kids if you're trying to visit, cook dinner, etc. All the pieces that it came with should fit into the storage compartment on top, but they don't. I always have them falling out and have never been able to get the storage compartment to close all the way because the tracks just don't fit; I have wasted a lot of time trying to get them all to fit in there, but they just don't! In order for the train to keep going around, you have to keep the middle part in front of the station exactly straight, and my 3 year old just can't seem to understand that because he always gets frustrated when the train stops at that part, so once again, it's time to yell at mommy for help. It also is only entertaining for about 5 minutes, unless you have additional parts to add to it.
We are new fans of the Take-Along Thomas toys, which we decided to buy after the wooden-train recalls this summer. Our youngest likes these trains even MORE because he doesn't have to get the magnets just right (with the wooden trains, you have to turn the trains around to ensure a positive and negative magnetic charge every time--the Take Along ones just connect no matter how they are lined up). Our oldest loves putting his trains to sleep in the roundhouse (just like on the Thomas DVDs)--as well as opening and shutting the doors. We are also happy with the fact that the die-cast trains seem much more durable than the wooden trains (which always chipped soooo fast). And the die-cast ones cost less, so we were able to acquire a good-sized collection of them much faster than we'd ever be able to do with the wooden ones. We also bought the the extra track pack--a good idea if you like longer set-ups. So far, the kids do not appear to miss the wooden set at ALL, which is amazing because they played with it every day for the past few years. I'd definitely recommend the Take Along Roadhouse to parents of Thomas fans!

It's nice and sturdy. It's easy to use for little guys and gals. I guess I would have given it more stars over all but I think that this sort of toy isn't as overall fun/usable as say blocks. But as far as R.C. cars go, it's really nice. Although it IS a bit annoying with the extremely realistic and constant siren sounds. My 3 year old son actually asked me at one point to take the batteries out so he could play with it like his other cars :)
This is the perfect remote control toy for toddlers. My 1 year old loves it and my 3 year old even plays with it. The remote is easy for their little hands to hold on to and there are only 2 buttons to figure out. This toys is wonderful for my little one, but children over 4 or 5 would probably not be impressed with it.

This truly is great for a child's first remote control car. The fire truck sounds are great! Not too loud and it really gets my grandson's attention. The two-button remote control is easy for him to operate and hold. Batteries easy to replace and last a really long time in both the car and the remote control. NO SPECIAL SCREWDRIVER NEEDED: Just a small phillips is all it takes. Highly recommended! We bought the police car, fire truck, construction loader and school bus. The soft body makes it safe for both child and furniture!
We bought this for our 1 yr old and he loves it. It is very easy for him to control and it moves easily over carpet. My 3 1/2 yr old loves to play with it too. The great benefit for me is it is that the siren is not too loud.
My 1st R/C Go Go Fire Truck includes a "steering-wheel style" two-button remote and bump 'n go siren sound. Its squeezable soft and chunky shape makes it perfect for little hands. Push the button up and the truck goes straight. Push the button down and it spins in circles. Requires 3 "AA" batteries and one "9V" battery, not included. Measures 6" x 11" x 7".

This was a great expansion set for a good price. It has a good selection of track pieces and BRIO is a terrific brand. The item was shipped very quickly.
Our son had the basic set of train tracks. We bought this as a 2-present package: he got 1/2 at Christmas and 1/2 at his birthday soon thereafter. He was positively over the top about this for months.

This has several different pieces which aren't in the basic set, which allows a greater variety of tracks to build. With the basic pack this lets you put together a pretty large track, which, as my son puts is, "goes round and round and round". Big without being gigantic. Has 3-connector pieces and some that let you elevate the track and switch the direction of assembly (i.e., one has 2 tabs, another has 2 holes)
Trains are my son's favorite things, right next to cars and playing in the dirt. We even enjoy playing with these -- and I can not say that for other toys. Great for being able to figure out how to piece things together, and he and dad make some amazing lay outs. I wish this pack had more switcher tracks but you can buy them separately. My son also loves the elevated tracks (the inclines) which this set does not contain, but again, you can buy them separately. It is good to have up and down play and it makes it more fun for the adults too. Overall, good track, cheaper than Thomas brand and totally interchangeable with Thomas tracks and Trains. Brio is a better buy and just as durable (the tracks, at least) -- good number of track for the money.
This is a great (and relatively cheap) way to expand your Brio starter set. A nice selection of straights, curves, and a few switch tracks that really add to the interaction / fun.

While Brio in general is expensive, this track pack represents a pretty good value (v. buying switches, curves, straights, etc on their own.... although you'll "need" to do that eventually too!).

The finish, fit, and quality is great. Worth the money considering the play it'll get&it's durability.

Percy was a gift for my grandchildren to go with their Thomas&Friends Wooden Railway set. They spend hours playing with the trains and enjoy them immensely. They especially like the battery powdered engines. They have most of them.
this is a battery powered toy, but it stoped running one day after purchasing even with a new battery. Not recommend
I absolutely agree with Pam T. We have had our battery Percy for over 3 years, and this last time we played with him he began to squeal and get hot. Poor guy!!! He has been so abused, I am suprised he lasted this long. I often find our battery trains in the corner, under the couch, or upsidedown with dead batteries because they were abandonded. Kudos to Thomas for hours of great learning fun!
My son loves it. My complaint is that it lasted about 8 months. I thought the battery died, but the whole engine did. Once dead, it's pretty useless because you can't push it on the tracks.

This is a fantastic toy that my 3 year old loves to play with. We love cars and these are great toys obviously designed by someone who is into cars. The details are fantastic and the build quality is first rate.

As there are only a few parts per car my son does get bored with them somewhat quickly but always comes back to them to play with.

We have owned them for over six months and there are absolutely no concerns with durability at this point.

The tires are make of silicone (like the Livestrong bracelets) so I expect they will last for some time to come. These are not disposable Matchbox cars. These are high quality toys that will easily be in the family or passed along for years to come.
Automoblox cars are very attractive, roll well, and have nice, sturdy wood bodies. Not sure how sturdy the wheels are since the tires come off and seem like they can tear with rough play, but they have not broken yet. The kids have fun taking the cars apart and putting them back together again, like a puzzle game.
This is an exceptional toy, that combines the gross motor skill training of block, the fine motor skills training of fitting pieces together in the correct manner, and the creativity of learning how to use different pieces to make unique creations.

It's solid wood, good quality, and well-packaged. The vehicles are made in the USA, although the wood is German beech wood.

The price is a bit high, but this isn't a "mass market" toy, this is a toy that seems like it could be passed down to your kid's children. Obviously, you can tell I was very happy with the toy.

I got this for my 6-year old. He plays with it all the time, even sleeps with it. He has yet to break it, so that says wonders about its durability. He'll be playing with this for a long time.
Thank you, Jeff Bezos, for doing something about the absurd overpackaging problem. I am buying this toy to support your efforts to encourage companies to package in a more responsible and incidentally less annoying way. The absence of steel ties alone is such progress that I am practically crying with joy.

My son is 5 and struggles to get this toy reloaded after shooting the batcycle out of the batmobile. The first step is to load the batcycle in backwards until you feel a spring resistance and then hear a click, it can take a few tries. Then you need to perfectly align both side with the rocket launchers attached by pressing them under the car, while at the same time pressing the top part down to latch the car back into position. This is just too complicated for young kids. My son can get it on occasion, but most times asks my husband because even I struggle to do it. We've had it for about a month and the car sits, he just plays with batman on the motorcycle. The age range on this toy should be higher.
Bought for my 4 year old because of the heavy marketing campaign on tv. It didn't last very long, but he has enjoyed it even in parts. Certainly would be better for an older child
My four year old grandson's face lit up like crazy as he described this toy when I asked what he wanted for his birthday. I believe it was all he expected. It was a hit. It appears to be quite durable and best of all requires no batteries.

I thought this would be a great toy for our 3 year old grandson. As I
watched him trying to play with it, I was wishing I had gotten something else. If you want a push type toy, this isn't one for that. He's still into running and pushing bigger vehicles. This one isn't tall enough.
Then he tried moving the blade up and down and that proved to be rather
hard and doesn't move much when it does move. Later we took it to the
park so he could play in the sand with it. The rubber tracks kept
coming off. He finally got so frustrated with that, he went to play with
something else. I kept thinking about how much I had paid for this toy
that had turned into such a disappointing experience for him and myself.
If I had know about these things before I purchased it, I would have gone with something else.
This is an excellent toy to get for your little man I would highly recommend it
