They had been asking for a James since their birthday, so we got them each one of these battery operated engines. Up to now, they had been using the wooden push trains from the same Thomas Wooden Railway line. Well, 1 train worked fine, but the 2nd one had a motor that just stopped after 2 rounds around the track. What a disappointment, spending $30 for a little train, seeing the OOO... ahhh... and then a whole morning of crying that "Its broken!! Its broken!! Its broken!!" X 50 times before I could calm him down. What a way to spend Saturday morning with the kids after working hard all week long! I then called Learning Curve, but of course, they are closed on the weekend and are only open during the hours while I am at work.
In summary, train looks nice. But I think we will stick with the wooden push trains instead of taking a step up to the technology of battery operated. I'm thinking of taking back to the toy store to ask them to deal with contacting the company about their defective product. When you pay so much for a product, you expect it to be worry-free.』

My kid just turned 3 and isn't that careful with his trains and this one has taken a pretty decent beating but hasn't had any problems. It is all metal and the paint did get a chip or two at the corners. There isn't a magnet in the front of the train as the regular trains have. The only downer is that it is a battery hog. Be ready to change batteries frequently. For those that complained about the train falling off the tracks sometimes... Give me a freakin break! It's just a toy train. Build your tracks better. Plus, it jut means you gotta send Harvey out to put em back on line... It concerns me that I know so much about these characters.』

(This is a great toy!) 『My three year old daughter loves this toy! It is so simple that she has no problems with the remote control. We have really old and really thick carpet, and this little bee zooms around on it with no problems. It does make a whirring type noise when it is on, and the little bee bottom spins, so I can see how it could become annoying to some people, but we just tune it out like all the other noisy toys in this house! The poor little bee has also survived the abuse of my 11 month old son, and has come through with no major injuries. An added bonus is how much the cats enjoy chasing it around the house! I think it does have educational value because it has taught my daughter that if she wants it to go somewhere, she has to wait for it to turn that way and then quick press the button. She has to think ahead. This is a super cute toy, but I bet a school age kid might tire of it pretty quickly with the simplistic remote control. Wrong. If the bumble bee is turned on it spins in a circle (noisily) and if the child pushes the button then the bumble bee goes straight. While my children (ages 2 and 5) enjoy this toy, their parents can't take much more than about 5 minutes of the noise at a time. (Nice looking, several limitations) 『Immediately after opening the package and getting Rocky onto the track, my son used the magnetic crane to "tow" another train back onto the track. I was so impressed with this action, that my ability to give an unbiased review of the product may be a little limited.
Sashamellow's description of the toy's limitations are accurate. But I did not feel they reduce my son's enjoyment of the toy overly much. Interestingly, the fact that Rocky does not fit through tunnels led my son to want to create a branch for Rocky to take around the tunnel which was a great problem solving task for him. However, if you don't have the extra track to make this an enjoyable task for your child, you may just find yourself trying to remind them not to try to shove Rocky in the tunnel again.
I don't understand at all what the front and back cars are for except to look just like the character from the show. My son will tow other trains onto the track, but putting anything on the front car will just result in it falling down right away. The magnets on the front car don't line up with anything that would help them remain on the flatbed.
Overall, this is a great looking toy, but has some great limitations in its playability.
And, yet, because both my son and I enjoying pulling out Rocky to rescue other trains that have crash, I still give this toy a favorable rating.

They're lightweight and easy to carry around, and the little rubber wheels make them go really, really fast when you run them on bare floors - faster than any hot wheels cars, for sure. The wheels do come off, though, when little fingers go prying, so you have to be careful around little brothers and sisters. We really like these little toys - and the kids love to play with them - especially with the accessory items.』
