customer 's review (Lose your train tables!)
(Flimsy doors and misproportioned size)
(The roundhouse doors are not "3-year-old-proof")
(Doesn't hold up to light use)
(Another Great Piece) This roundhouse is a wonderful addition to a complex layout. You don't necessarily need to use all the branch lines on the turntable, and I believe building the track layout on a raised table is very limiting. Get down on the floor and enjoy! Yes, the doors do occasionally pop off, but only when the kids are pretty rough. Usually, they stay on just fine, and I am quite impressed that none of the plastic hinges have broken. I am not gonna fuel more gas into the fire about the flimsy doors (let say I become an expert in fixing those doors, ok?). But one thing I dislike most about this is its huge size. I have the official Thomas Tank Engine play table, and once you got this roundhouse plus the turntable on it, nearly half of the play area is GONE. You will need some really creative way to jam the rest of tracks there.
So, do yourself a favor, get the SMALLER version of this roundhouse. You will have much more space to put tracks around. Not only did the doors get knocked off in the first two hours of play, one of the door mechanisms broke as a result, so that the door couldn't be replaced. While my 3-year-old seems to glean as much enjoyment out of it without the doors (I simply leave them off, now), I'm disappointed with the poor durability of a ~$100 toy. We received one of these for my son's Christmas present in 2005. Immediately one of the doors came off. So I returned it and got a new one. A couple of days later the red door came off again. I should have returned it but never did. I find the unit frustrating. I would probably buy the simpler model without doors that open and close to save the frustation and money. This piece is pricy and large; so I would recommend that you have the room for it for starters. My son (5) saw this in the floor model in a toy store and loved the fact that it made noise; the doors opened and closed; it comes with the turntable to go every which way and the fact that it was huge:) He enjoys making his trains ride by the house; or go in for repairs as well as "sleeping" when they need a rest. He has many many other pieces and track, so we have no problem connecting it into our current sets. We use to have a train table but found he would rather make it on the floor, his way, then bunched up in a rectanglular table. No whe makes them on his floor, every direction he wants; and is excellent about cleaning it up after a day or two goes by. He loves making new setups which keeps it more fun I think then just having it setup and left that one way forever. It gets his mind going and he has come up with some pretty smart setups. Overall I give this piece 5 stars, company is great, pices is fun; little pricy but it is quite large. Most pieces aren't cheap but they are durable and last. We first started him on Thomas stuff when he was 2. He still has every piece and part looking as the day we bought them and they have been throuh yell and back, and you would never know it :) A deluxe version of the popular engine home. Press a button and engines automatically exit through front doors. Engines trigger five railway sounds. Tethered tools and larger interior for more hands-on play. Includes two AA batteries. 23 inches long. Rerations < Thomas&Friends Wooden Railway - Deluxe Roundhouse >

(Baby's favorite toy)
(Good Classic Toy Fun) We got this for our son's one-year birthday and he really enjoys it! It is really well made, simple, yet provides plenty for him to do. I really think he will like it through age 3 at least! Would recommend it as a gift for sure. My daughter received this toy when she turned one. She has loved playing with it. Even though she has lost the sheep, at 26 months, it is still one of her favorite toys. Our son at 7 months likes to play with it also. Plays old mcdonald tune and each of the animal's sounds. I would highly recommend this toy for a boy or girl. This is a cute toy. My young son loves to push it around and hear the "Old McDonald" tune play. Each animal can be pressed to hear their animal sounds. Each barn yard animal can be taken out to be played with individually too. This toy goes great with the Fisher Price Little People Farm set. My son uses his with his farm set. THe only recommendation I can make to this toy is that it would have been neater if the song had the lyrics to teach the child the song. It is only a brief part of the tune that plays. Depending upon which animal is pressed, during the song that animal's sound will join the tune. That's cute. Fire up the tractor! All of your little farmer's favorite animals are going for a hay ride in this delightful John Deere play set. The electric green and yellow tow-tractor pulls 2 carts full of hay, along with a horse, a cow, a pig and a sheep that fit into the seats inside them. She'll hear an oink oink here or a moo moo there when she puts the animal in its spot, and the Old MacDonald song when she puts the farmer in his seat. A fun way to introduce matching and math skills. 15L. Rerations < John Deere - Animal Sounds Hay Ride >

Usually ships in 4 to 7 weeks customer 's review (Good idea...but points off for plastic) Both the boxcar and the open wagon with milk have very little wood on them, so paying 20$ for hunks of plastic seems a little much right?! While it is steep, as I have said before you can get these on sale if you are lucky, and add them to any train for a fun time. The boxcar's moving door sounds are clever and I found them not to be too loud or irritating like the sounds the battery powered trains make. Aside from that, they are relatively well made. My only question is why they made the dairy cars like this when in most of the videos, the dairy cars are milk tankers. I heard they used to make milk tankers...maybe search Ebay if you can find a cheaper version. Well I bought this and since there is a lack of regular freight vans, the milk van works well for that too. The people on the Island of Sodor need milk, and they can always count on the Sodor Dairy Cars to deliver it! The children especially love to see the Dairy Cars and hear the cows moo as they pass by. The Dairy Cars play a "moo" sound when a little engineer slides the side door open. Also includes a milk barrel car. They're made with real wood and connect with magnet connectors. Each car measures approximately 3". Rerations < Thomas&Friends Wooden Railway - Sodor Dairy Cars >

(My kid loves this!)
(My review of DJ.)
(I don't have time to search every store in town) DJ looks just like DJ from the movie Cars. My daughter plays with often and it has handled well and looks great! This toy was hard to find in stores locally. Happy I looked on amazon.com. My child loves it!!! Fun toy and my kid loves it. Die Cast construction so it won't fall apart easily...word to the wise beware of smaller children 3-5 playing with these toys as they do pose choking hazard is a wheel or small piece fell off. My son LOVES his new DJ car!! That one, Wingo, Snot Rod, and Boost have become his favorite ones. He calls them the "bad cars", haha. He carries them around with him everywhere, lol. It's so cute! Thanks so much, and I look forward to buying from you again in the future. :) Some complain that many of the cars toys are overpriced---they are probably right, however, since I couldn't find all of the toys in the stores in my area, I am just happy that I was able to get them from Amazon.com. The huge smile on my son's face when he saw the DJ car was well worth the additional cost. Thanks Amazon! It's not Amazon's fault that the demand is greater than the supply right now. From the smash hit Pixar Studious animated film comes these 1:55 scale replicas of the cars from the film. Each car features rolling wheels and intricately detailed paint jobs, perfectly recreating the look of the characters from the film. Collect them all, each sold separately. (Good Book, Incorrect outcome)
(Learn why T-34 mobility counted for more than Panther firepower)
(Panther is mostly remembered for her looks)
(Small but excellent book on armored warfare.) I found the author's premise thought provoking and interesting, but in the end, a bit hollow. He contends that the Panther was a failed design when compared to the basic T-34, and therefore a waste of resources that the Third Reich could ill afford.
So the Panther was not "the best tank of WWII". Fair enough. But to make the book more interesting for WWII wonks, Mr. Forczyk could have discussed potential alternatives available to the German military in lieu of the Panther. Just a few more pages on this issue would have been fun.
He also seems to give short shrift to the fact that the German armored forces' qualitative advantages in training, radios, guns, and gun sights througout 1943 led to significant losses in the ranks of the Red Army which could have been avoided had the Soviets upgraded to the T-35/85 six months earlier. Given the number of tanks the Soviet Union built in 1944, it's difficult to believe that an earlier upgrade would have appreciably slowed overall production.
Very good book. However, the Panther's achilles heal was actually the thickness of her side armor(50mm). Her mechanical problems were remedied soon after the battle of Kursk. But whatever she may have given up in armor, her powerful KwK/42 (L/70) 7.5cm main gun more than made up for it. This gun actually had more penetrating power than the main gun on the Tiger I . The Panther could engage and destroy frontal plate armor on all T-34 versions at 2,000 meters while the Soviet counterpart had to get to 500 meters to do the same to the Panther. It was the combined tactics of the Soviets to outnumber the Panzers five and six to one and then "get in close" regardless of losses that ultimately doomed the Panther and all the great german tanks . This is an advantage in numerical superiority and not mechanical superiority. One on One, the Panther was the most deadly tank of WWII. I would respectfully disagree with the outcome of the Author. I enjoyed this book and learned a great deal from it. As a 1970's era wargamer, I always saw the Panther as superior, given the higher combat factors assigned it in the famous wargame Panzerblitz. Yet the author makes a convincing case that the T-34's outstanding mobility counted for far more than the Panther's admittedly impressive firepower. While a Panther could usually best a T-34 in a one-on-one encounter, Panthers were always outnumbered. Panthers were also seriously unreliable, at least in 1943. This made a big difference, meaning the Soviets could transfer entire tank corps over distances greater than 100 kilometers, while the Germans had to haul Panthers any significant distance by railroad. The T-34's advantage in operational mobility was extremely helpful, and maybe even decisive, as the tide turned in Russia during 1943. When the Germans tried to retreat with Panthers under their own power over long distances, breakdowns were frequent. As a result, more Panthers were blown up to prevent capture than were lost in combat.
This finely detailed book made the Russian front interesting to me despite a preference for other parts of World War II. It gives details on the design history of these two tanks, as well as insight into crew training and day-to-day life. The author also gives a detailed analysis of a duel in the Kursk campaign. Graphic quality is very good. Few of the Osprey books are as well-researched as this one. Whether you are a casual reader interested in tanks or a serious student of armored warfare, this title is a "must read." In its 79 pages, this fine&richly illustrated American book makes a thorough comparison between the German 'Panther' and its Russian counterpart 'T 34'.
Being only partially better than T 34, Panther's main flaw was its mechanical weakness. No doubt Josef Stalin was greatly helped by the many Panthers that got out of action without ever engaging his much more reliable T 34's. Obviously Panther's designers valued their own vanity more.
That brings us to the only overall-superiority Panther enjoys over T 34: the beauty of its looks. Panther surely makes a magnificent example of 1940's industrial design. Unfortunately that isn't decisive for winning a war. "Panther vs. T-34" gives readers the story of the epic showdown between two legendary tanks. The Russian T-34 met the German panther for the first time in the brutal battles in Southern Russia and the Ukraine. By the end of 1943, the flawed but powerful panthers had destroyed droves of Soviet tanks, but ultimately Soviet strenght prevailed. The book is thin, but contains quite a bit of information in a very readable form. The production of the vechicles is described as are the armored battles in which they faced each other. Additional features include brief descriptions of tank commanders and two interesting computer generated images of the tanks targeting one another. The book has numerous photos of the vechicles, including some I haven't noticed in other books. There is only one piece of artwork depicting an engagement, but it is very well done (much more detailed than the one featured in the "Duel" book featuring the firefly and tiger I). Overall, I recommend it to anyone interested in World War II armored vechiles or the epic tragedy called the Eastern Front.
Robert A. Forczyk provides a riveting and intense description of the design and development of these two deadly opponents, the Panther and the T-34, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses and describing their tactics, weaponry and training. Moreover he gives an insight into the lives of the tank crews themselves, who were caught up in the largest land conflict of World War II, in some of the most important engagements in the history of warfare.
Innovative digital artwork and first-person perspectives place the reader in the midst of a duel between the titans of the Soviet and German armed forces in a ruthless and relentless death match that would determine the war on the Eastern Front and, indeed, the fate of Nazi Germany. customer 's review (Worthless)
(So much fun)
(Seems okay for a 2 year old)
(Great Toy)
(My kids love this toy) Very disappointing. Purchased for Christmas a year ago. Worked ok short range (i.e., less than 5 feet), and easy for 2-year-old to use, but then RC seemed to stop functioning altogether. Replaced all batteries but to no avail. My 15 month old loves this car. We bought it after the Chicco remote car turned out to be a dud. It has a good range and the remote is perfect for little hands. Ignore the other reviewers, so it's loud, turn it off when not using it. Not rocket science. It's really a great toy. The car makes noise starting from the time you turn the switch on. It's not as loud as some of the reviews would have you believe, but it's probably too much for a 1 year old, or even an 18 month old. We just got one as a gift for my son, who is 26 months old. It seems okay for him at his current age. If he had received it only 6 months ago, he might have been afraid of it. It definitely would not work for a child with sensory hearing issues. The sound is not a bad feature, because I can find it and turn it off when he's done playing if he's hidden it somewhere, as he likes to do. We'll see how it wears over time, but I don't expect it to have a very long life. All the little kids in our neighborhood (9 months-4 years old) LOVE this car! It is a bit loud, but it doesn't bother me really. It is really simple for little ones to use, and cool enough for older ones to still like it. My three-year-old son loves it! We received this as a gift for my 13 month old daughter. She likes it and can operate it easily with the big button (she just doesn't know how it works, press once to go, press again to turn). My 3 year old son also likes it and they have fun chasing it. It is loud and has odd sounds, but it's not that bad. The Remote Control Racer from Parents is the perfect first remote control vehicle. Push the button on the remote to send the car across the room. The car makes engine noises and lights up as it goes. The button is large enough to be easily operated by small hands. The car is six inches long. Rerations < My First RC Car, Red >
