(Still a Favorite Toy - after a year) (Fun Toy Line) (Breakable) Every year the toy that the boy plays with first after opening all the others wins the "best toy of the year" contest. This was my first time winning! This has a lot of working parts on it and they are very easy to install and play with. Braden is 5 years old. But even his little brother Kolton (2 years old) was able to work the crane and put the jeep on and off. Everything on this is very sturdy even though many of the parts are quite small and flexible in their movements. My son received this Bruder tow truck with Jeep when he turned three. After nearly a year he plays with it every day. He puts the Jeep through different scenarios - it can be dragged by front wheels, lifted by crane, lifted by wheel clamp/chain mechanisms. The flat bed tilts up, the cab tilts forward to expose the engine. It is surprisingly realistic. The plastic is light weight but nothing has broken. The best part (for me) is that it makes no sound effects. It is kept indoors. My son got this toy for Christmas. He plays with it all the time. The neatest thing about it is that there are so many other construction toys in the line that share the same detail and scale. My son is 6 and never tires of these (nearly 2 months now). This truck breaks too easily to be used by the sturdy little boys who enjoy this kind of toy. Need some roadside assistance? (Great for Construction Fans) The Mega Bloks 7800 CAT Construction Backhoe Loader is a great toy for our son. It is well made and has a lot of details, such as a Caterpillar diesel motor in the engine compartment with a hood that hinges up for access. The design and quality of construction are very good. This is compatible with LEGO Duplo bricks. The front end bucket can be used to load a dump truck with pretend brick-rocks or actual small pebbles. Know what you're buying: this is not suitable for use outdoors in actual dirt, because the fine details that make this interesting will get messed up in the dirt. It is at home indoors with LEGO Duplo bricks and other medium sized toy vehicles and construction equipment. The tires are very nice with interesting details such as actual metric sizes moulded into the sidewall. (Really!) The vehicle rolls well - straight and smooth - across a flat floor. This is the most realistic and functional backhoe loader I've seen for toddlers. We got my 3 year old son a lot of these Cat truck sets for christmas last year and he is still playing with them. They are building sets, which come apart, not regular trucks like another reviewer mentioned. I think that is one of the main plusses of these toys. You wouldn't believe the different combinations of trucks and vehicles my son comes up with by combining pieces from other truck sets. We took some of the tiny pieces and packed them away since we also have a one year old, but most of the pieces are just fine for both kids. I started this CAT collection 2 years ago when my boys were close to 2. I started with the Tower crane, grader, another truck that escapes me and the transport station. At 2 they were a bit too difficult to build alone; however by the time they were 2 1/2 to three, they were loving all of these and so were we! They are the BEST construction blocks for kids in my opinion. Far superior to LEGOS and a lot more fun. We have since added the backhoe, dump truck, articulated dump truck, material hauler and excavation site. The boys (who now just turned 4) build the most incredible,creative trucks and sites. As to the reviewer complaining the parts do not stay together, we have not had this problem unless the boys crash their vehicles together or get rough with them. They ARE building sets not traditional trucks and do have to be played with differently. That being said, the boys drive their trucks all over the room without a problem and play interactively with the other pieces of the sets-ramps etc. without mishap. We love this set and wish Megabloks had more add on and accessory kits so you could build more buildings or additional trucks like a cement mixer. My 2 1/2 year old son LOVES trucks...thought this was a fun. Not what I imagined and small. All the pieces keep falling apart. May just glue it together...OK, wouldn't recomend. I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday and he loved it. It is a little tricky for him to put together by himself but he has an older brother to help him. Caterpillar Construction vehicles are rough and rugged with multiple transformations. Each piece is used to re-configure another type of construction truck, so you can build and rebuild! Plus, each truck is equipped with a c-clip that allows it to haul other trucks. And with real rubber wheels and a working suspension, these trucks are ready for rough and tumble preschool play. What can you say about an engine who manages to get cheerful little Toby mad at her! Mavis is a young, feisty diesel whose inexperience frequently gets her into trouble. That said, she *is* learning; and certainly after she shows her usefulness, she becomes one of the crew. (Even though she is a Diesel they don't hold that against her.) Like all of Thomas' friends Mavis is sturdy and a great pal. She is also very useful in the development of 'made up' Thomas tales. In appearance Mavis is black with the yellow markings around her square face. In addition, and for reasons unexplained, she has sidebars and a cow catcher which is certainly not standard quarry attire. It does mean, however, that she can substitute on Toby's line from time to time. Four stars. Mavis is a nice, second-string engine. This Mavis is handmade from durable New England hard maple. The concept is cute but my son immediately opened it, put it together and then said, "It's not doing anything, what's it supposed to do?" He's used to cars going fast and doing stunts, there are no special effects with this toy other than to push a car around the street and put it in different garages. It puts me in mind of a dollhouse but for boys, they really have to use imaginary play to get into it. Anyway, my son will play with it for about 5 minutes before moving on to something else. He actually enjoys putting the streets together rather than pushing the cars around. I'm undecided about whether I would recommend this toy to others but I know I definitely wouldn't pay more than $20 for it. has anyone noticed they have the price for this toy LISTED right on the box in the picture??? It is easy to assemble and worked fine, but like most Hot Wheels toys, although the box and the ads look like it is an amazing, fun experience, once you drop a few cars down the track you it starts to dawn on you....is that it? They played with it for about five minutes and then moved on to other things. I ordered this set for my son mainly for the track as The other set he received for his birthday didn't have much and this set wasn't expensive. When I brought it out, however both my Son and Daughter had a great time with it for hours. I wasn't expecting this toy to have any educational value, whatsoever, but the kids immediately began experimenting with different ways to set up the ramp and seeing where the car went with different setups. essentially they made it into a Physics experiment. One aspect of the toy which didn't work so well was the elevator. The plastic is a bit too soft for the elevator apparatus to work smoothly, I ended up having to shave down a bit of plastic. after I did, it worked flawlessly. One other thing is that the cars are moving fast when they jump off the ramp. So watch out for your walls! Finally found a set that is NOT battery operated and loud. My son, 8 years old, loves it and the whole family joins in to create new and vaired tracks. I love that tracks from other sets can fit and the 'elevator' is great. We have had not one problem with the set. Remember when Hot Wheels didn't require batteries? The gravity powered tracks are still the best! My kids got this for Christmas and love it! The car came fast and in great condition. My son is having a blst playing with him. Bought for a 3 year old who LOVES cars. This one has flashing lights and the tunes are fun. The tunes start either by rolling the car forward or by pushing the one speaker in the back of the car. The car is strong, axles are thick, I don't see it breaking. The fin on the back is good for him to grab on to and push around the room. If your kid likes cars and especially the scene with the tuners, "big DJ" is a good buy. The Pixar Cars DJ Rockin' Ride is inspired from the hit movie Cars. The popular and colorful tuner car DJ has voice, sounds and music to go with his tricked outlook. He plays one of four cool beats that kids get to select, both his eyes and mouth move to the groove. The streaming lights all around the toy add more trick to this cruising sweet ride.
