(Another Character in the Land of Thomas the Tank Engine) 『I haven't opened the package yet, it's a present, but Jack looks well made and ready to make his place onto the train table!』
(For this price i expect better) 『Positives first: It is a must for anyone who has "pack" fans...and the mechanism to move the front loader is rather clever.
People were upset by the magnet in place of a regular but if you were to combine this with say a cargo car loading piece or something similar you can let your child use jack instead of the much more expensive cranky the crane.
The bright red color was a firm favorite and much nicer than the ugly color of Rosie or Billy.
Jack is confirmed to likely appear again in "the great discovery" so it will be a character to use over and over again.
Now the downside:
Jack has changed, he is no longer like the first picture now he is like the second.
Then I should let you know that Jack is slightly disproportionate and somewhat flimsy. (the button tends to break...it hasn't happened to us but my 4 year old is rather gentle )
The front loader does not lift put that high, while it works with cargo cars it still disappoints.
When the loader is down, it often covers Jack's face
In ours, the holes drilled in the wood chassis for the wheel were too big causing the wheels to wobble when played with off track.
In general my son and I both rather liked Jack, because we got him with a dvd, it is not worth 11+$ just alone. Look in your local toyshop if you cannot find it online』

This piece named Jack is fun! His arm lifts and the front loader has magnetic pieces in it, we found out by accident. The paint is durable and the plastic pieces are minimal and will be great addition to your Thomas collocation. 』

I myself think that Jack the truck is pretty cool. It's very sturdy like the other vehicles by Learning Curve, its shovel does not interfere with clearance through the tunnels (at least the mountainpass tunnel), and for those concerned with the closed shovel, my husband discovered it has an enclosed magnet, so you can 'connect' to the trains and push or even slightly lift them. I thought it was a great purchase except that the track needs to be sanded down every time you play otherwise the cars do not work as well or at all. I think the track is also very cheaply made. Even though my daughter is careful with her toys I see this one getting broke quickly. The batteries have lasted even though she has played with it about two times a week but I haven't changed them since Christmas. Over all I was happy with the purchase.』
(Fun father son toy, brings back memories.) 『I got this for my son for Christmas. It is exactly the memory of my childhood playing with a track set all day during Christmas. It would usually be totally dead by New Years.
Not that I am all that old but when I was a kid (1970's) the cars were the first thing that died. With this track set I am thinking the track may go first. Maybe it is because the track color is tan and in places it looks semi-transparent. This gives the appearance of cheap plastic. Maybe if it was black it would appear this way.
This track set is cool because it uses batteries meaning you can put it anywhere. The cars have a weird configuration where the rear wheels are much narrower than the front (possibly due to the characters in the movie).
We raced this set all day Christmas and now it is Jan 13th and it is still going. For this I give it a 4 Star overall.

While not the most educational toy around, they make him happy and keep him occupied. The trains are very durable and I have no fear that he can choke on small parts. He has about 20 to 25 trains and has memorized each trains. Not just the names, but the facial expressions and how that expresses emotion. How he can tell the difference between some of them is beyond me. Bill, Ben and the other train pairs look identical to me. But he can rattle them off without error no matter how much I mix them up. It's amazing to listen to his little 3yr old voice talking with such intensity and interest. If your child likes trains, I can't recommend Thomas enough.』

(A great addition to your Thomas collection.) 『I umm and aahh about spending this sort of money on a train table and playboard for my children but after doing my homework I decided this is the one I would buy.
Other train tables I have seen in stores are often wonky and seem quite unstable - and this is after they've been played on in the stores. So after seeing poorer quality tables for similar prices I decided to save up for the Thomas branded one and this single sided playboard.
Yes, it's expensive, but as with any "brand", it's the name you are paying for. If you want a Thomas collection of trains and accessories you are going to have to pay. I'm just starting our collection and am buying the "Thomas" trains and buildings, but found a compatible generic track for less than half the price. I was lucky enough to get this playboard at almost half price at a after Christmas sale. It's worth waiting for sales and price comparing.
It's beautifully painted and when used with the table frame is extremely strong (although I wouldn't recommend standing on it).
It's up to you to spend to decide if you want to spend this sort of money but I see this as something I won't ever have to replace and it's something my son can keep for his children. Toys like this will last!』
