My 3-year-old grandson loves this kind of track. My 3 year old son really enjoys playing with this new train set. He especially like the crane. I think the bridge is the coolest part. The track works with the other Thomas and Brio wooden tracks, although sometimes the fit between the different brands it just a bit less than perfect. No worries though, the trains still roll on. Whenever I babysit I would watch my Grandson playing more with his sister's play kitchen than his own toys, I decided he needed something of his own that held his attention. I purchased a few Thomas&Friends Train Sets, extra track connectors, extra cars, and extra engines. He loves the trains and now plays with them most of the time, his sister enjoys playing with him and helps him learn how to lay out the track. along with his Mom, Dad, and Grandparents. We knew he was getting a big set of the Take Along Thomas&got this to go with it. When he received this, he hadn't gotten the other one yet. He played with it immediately, working the conveyor belt. I think Thomas will keep him busy for hours. The coal loader station is my toddlers favorite building. Like a lot of his tastes, I can't say why. I can tell you he is endlessly entertained by it. I recommend it as a top tier pick when assembling a set. We are very happy with the Coal Loader set. The mechanics are simple and my three year old can work them. They are made of hard plastic and have stood up to my son's play, but he's not too destructive; these would probably break if an adult stepped on them. Since he's fascinated with the Troublesome Trucks, this has been a great addition. My 3 yo son likes this as an addition to his other Take Along Thomas playsets This Playset features a lot of play value and a great train theme. Our son has loved this truck. He uses small Lego bricks as garbage, and they pass through the auger into the truck's box with no problem. The arm extends from the truck's side and grabs the garbage can. The can is dragged over to the very side of the truck, then lifted and tilted over the opening. The lifting mechanism is very cleverly designed so that no 'garbage' will fall from the can until the lifting knob is slightly over-rotated, thereby opening the garbage can lid. Sounds complex, but it is well built, and has lasted us a year so far. The Bruder line is very tough, and the plastic is almost indestructible. A garbage truck that works just like the real thing! Working grappler arm unloads each of the included bins into the truck body, where screw extruders move the contents to the back. Trucks feature tread tires, folding mirrors, a lift gate that opens and locks in place and a body that tilts up to dump the contents. I'm distressed to see Amazon offering an outlet for retailers charging exhorbitant prices for "hard to find" items of miniscule actual value. That's what auction sites are for! My 3 year old son got this (and the other parts of the Polar Express Brio train) for Christmas. He is a HUGE fan of the movie and LOVES these toys. We have read the book so many times and seen the movie even more times that we set up the train and he runs the movie plot right there in the living room. Brio makes good quality stuff and even the price on Amazon seemed pretty reasonable! My children (ages3&5) love the movie and just the same they both enjoyed this toy. They love that each time you pass the tree that it lights up and makes a bell chime sound. The bell is secured into the car, so my little one can't remove it but can play with it. Great toy! I ordered the BRIO Polar Express North Pole and the Polar Express Train for my little nephew (3 years old) in the USA. The set was delivered quickly and very well packed and it's a big success. The items are happily presented to anyone approaching the house and taken to bed. The children love the switches for the lights etc. and the set is a great addition to the other BRIO stuff they have. We receive a defective item, the tree did not light up. The team at Brio was extremely helpful in getting a new track without additional hassels. (Great toy) (Great toy, watch for safety hazards though!) (Fun for every age) The toy comes with numerous "cool" details. The trap door, swing, movable stairs, and pulley system are all great fun for my grandson. What was NOT great fun was putting this together. First, a major piece was missing, which prevented the tree from being put together for my grandson in time for Easter. A big disappointment! Then, these have to be some of the WORST directions we have ever encountered. If it wasn't for the picture on the box, we would still be wrestling with it.The holes are not always drilled out completely, preventing the screws from going in. Also, it is not real stable. The one platform, which is separate from the rest, is wobbly. The stairs are supposed to be pulled up to the second story and kept there with the help of magnets. The platform moves, and the stairs drop down. Maybe if the magnets were stronger, it would help. But it is very frustrating for him when he plays with this aspect of the toy.There should have been another piece to anchor the platform in place and keep it from moving. I can see that this part would be broken easily if any pressure was placed on it. We may have to do some gluing and supporting to keep this toy from being broken. My daughter is five years old and has a great imagination and absolutely loves this tree house. She will have many years of play, and use of her imagination and development. This is such an amazing play item and would recommend it to any parent to purchase. It's taller than my daughter and she's 43" tall and plays for hours on end. It was a christmas present, thank ~ you Melissa and Doug for creating such wonderful toys, also to create and celebrate on the excellent pricing of this item, it's very hard to find and quite pricey if you don't do searching on the net. $68.00 was a steal of a price for such a well made item. I have four children ages 3-13. This toy was purchased for the children under age 5 however all my children have enjoyed this toy. I purchased some animals to use in the tree house, gorilla, tiger, bear, etc. They have their own little "Tarzan" theme going on right at home. They love the trap doors, stairs, ladders and all the peices that they can move. We even had animals swinging from the tree limbs. This is definately a big hit. My only concern is the durability. A few of the tree "trunks" are a bit wobbly. We tightened all the screws and can't seem to get them tight enough. With 4 active kids, we'll have to see how long this lasts. This toy has been a great addition to my preschool classroom, the children love to use it. It's completely wooden with a real "tree" feel, which works great for my naturalistic program. The tree is also big enough for 3-4 children to use at the same time. However, on one occasion one of the children using the toy fell onto the stick that is intended for the tire swing to hang from, and it landed right below her eye leaving a nasty welt--a couple inches higher and it would have gone into her eye. I would strongly suggest removing that particular piece from the toy! We cut it off&hung the tire swing from the ladder, it's worked just fine. I'll be contacting the company to suggest making this a long term change! Assembly was a bit difficult, but not terrible. All required hardware was included. Most Melissa and Doug toys can stand up to just about anything. This toy has taken a lot of abuse (as all toys do in a preschool environment!) and the base has stood up well. However, the swing fell apart within the first week&was impossible to repair, and the stairs jam on occasion. These are minor issues, compared to the overall quality of the toy, but should be taken into consideration. I looked at a number of options before purchasing this tree house, and feel that even despite these flaws this is still the best wooden tree house on the market. My kids love this treehouse. Great for encouraging little imaginations. I love it because it's a nice-looking item (as opposed to some giant, plastic cheap-looking toy) and not an eye-sore in the family room. (Smart, Sturdy, and Fun) (Sturdy, smart, fun toy) (Fabulous toy for kids who like to take things apart) This toy was a big hit for my grandson's fourth birthday. My five year old granddaughter now wants one for her birthday. They love pulling it apart and putting it back together, sometimes shorter than it was. Even my two year old grandson was impressed with it. It's durability even withstands the two year old! They want more! Wish car makers would imitate the automoblox so we could buy them and drive around. These are collectors items yet great everyday toys. Worth the money!!! It rolls well on wood or carpet, it goes fast, it's colorful, it's durable, and it's simple to dis-assemble/re-assemble. My 2 year old's interested in rolling it around, my 4 year old takes it apart and puts it together again. They really enjoy it, and so do I. The car will occasionally come apart with really strong play....my two year old will put both hands on it and push it through the house while placing his weight on the structure. I don't expect it to take this type of rough-housing, but it usually does! I bought this Automoblox toy for my 2 1/2 year old son for Christmas. He loves it. He still needs a little help to take the pieces apart and put them back together, but I think within a few months he'll be able to do it alone. In the meantime, it has merit just as a car toy alone, as it can be pushed along and rolls well. And although it can be taken apart, it doesn't fall apart on its own, even during fairly rough toddler play. It's very solid and sturdy; the quality seems excellent to me. But what makes it really great is that it can be taken apart (into eight pieces plus four removable passengers, each with a different shaped base that can only fit into their identically shaped slot) and put back together. And I believe the pieces are interchangeable, so when I get him more Automoblox cars in the future, he'll be able to construct his own original vehicular inventions. My little guy got one of these when he was 3, and a year later now, it's still one of his favorites. I haven't found another toy car that is so toddler friendly, and gives them complete control at the same time. The materials used are very high quality. We plan on buying a few more so he can interchange the pieces.
