He has several other Thomas and friends take along toys and this was a great addition. Would recommend it for boys who love trains and want to take it with him as it is small for little hands to carry. Great toy. Does not fit on wooden tracks. This is a dicass train. Very durable. So far, I have reviewed at least 15 wooden trains, and now I have just begun reviewing Take Along Trains. They are durable, smaller and cheaper than the wooden trains, and they're portable enough to take everywhere! The first one I am reviewing is Fergus. In the Thomas stories, Fergus is a small dark blue railway traction engine who was saved from scrap by Salty. He was used to power the lighthouse when the generator blew out. Reliable and useful, Fergus is always ready to help out in case of an emergency. If you are looking for a railway set for your child that's not too expensive, but is also pretty durable, you certainly cannot go wrong with the Take Along Thomas railway. Choose Fergus or any of the other engines. They are loads of fun! As part of the Take Along Thomas and Friends series, Fergus is an interesting little dark blue engine. My 2 year old son can handle these smaller versions better than the wooden ones, and they are more affordable. It's unfortunate that more of the sets for this series aren't available from Amazon. This Fergus is a new Thomas character featuring a spinning flywheel and moving piston. He is a traction engine who hauls trucks at the Cement Works. Reliable and down-to-earth, Fergus knows the rule book by heart. Not surprisingly, he's resistant to change and can be irritated when other engines "muck about". Take Along Thomas are not compatible with Thomas and Friends wooden railway, which measures 7cm long. I agree with one writer the gray insulation that you can buy form home depot in a bail will last a lifetime and a much better wadding. But Estes wadding is great for the just starting out rocketry is much easer and will be flying quickly. I bought this along with the rockets because they said you need this so the thing doesn't blow up. The recovery wadding is nothing more than a few pieces of cloth paper. I have heard you could use newspaper and it would work just as well, but get this because it's from Estes and they make the best stuff! Why buy overpriced wadding if it already comes with the engines? This is not a bad product, but they overpriced it. I would buy it if it was $3 but not $10 if it already comes with engines. So pass this product and just use the watting included with your rocket engines. Estes fireproof wadding is an essential component of every rocket launch. You need it between the engine and the parachute, so that when the engine discharges the heated ejection blast that pops the nose cone and parachute out, the parachute will not melt from the heat of the blast. Back in the old days of rocketry, I used to use regular tissue paper, but this often starts on fire and can be a fire hazard as it touches ground. So, one has to fork out the money for wadding that conforms to rocketry safety standards. It can be collected after each launch and used again, it one can find it. I think the product it overpriced, and there are other fireproof alternatives available (see the other product rerview), so that is why I give it only 3 stars. Jim Konedog Koenig (rocketeer for over 30 years) the most common being the blown in cellulose material that home improvement stores such as Lowe's and Home Depot sell by the bale for less than ten bucks. It's really shredded newspaper that has been treated to be flameproof. Unless you fly daily, this is likely to be a lifetime supply. The Estes wadding does have its uses, such as wrapping the parachute or encircling a big wad of this stuff in a large diameter rocket so that the whole structure acts as a piston. Your best bet for getting Estes wadding is buying the bulk packs of motors, which you'll need anyway and which contain it. Flame resistant wadding to protect your recovery system. Required in most Estes rockets. Contains 75 sheets - enough for about 18-25 flights! I have already had to use one of these. The fragility of these parts is shocking. My kids love the toys, but they probably won't last long. Not ever one charge and broke but was fun while it was in the air THis helicopter is too fine and product for kids...can't really trip the props to get it to fly up or in any intended direction....need extra props as they tear if impacted hard! Finally got these replacement blades in the mail today. I have to different kinds of helicopters. These blades did NOT work on either. Quite upset. It is a good idea to keep a few spare tail props on hand to let you keep flying in case yours is damaged in a crash or by trying to bend it back into shape. It is fairly easy to damage the tail propeller if you keep the power while skimming off the floor after crashing, getting stuck in furniture or smashing against a ceiling fan. I may have jumped the gun by purchasing these for my 15-months-old son (these are rated for age 3+), but I guess I wanted them for myself. Although my son plays with these every now and then, he does not pay as much attention to these toys as I expected, but I hope he will as he grows. The design of these toys is very appealing, and my wife, who often does not agree with my taste, said that these toys were beautiful. The quality is good. Wooden pieces are nicely finished, and colored plastic pieces are bright and smooth. These toy cars seem quite sturdy. They often come apart after a drop, but pieces just snap back together. I found one connection on the pickup truck to be not as strong as all others, but it is still adequate to keep the car together. Since I have more than one of these, I can mix parts from several cars, which can be fun. I can make a vehicle longer by adding extra pieces, or mix colors of the roof and the wheels. Overall, this is a very nice toy car that can provide years of enjoyment. This toy is great. My son got the truck and another car and loves them. We removed the people because they are for over three so he can have them when he is older. He is one and enjoys pushing them around. I was suprised how many people came with each vehicle. Great toy. I love that you can interchange the pieces with each vehicle. We will definitely be buying more for him. My older daughter who is 6 thinks they are cool to. Very neat idea to make them interchangeable. These are great toys -- engaging for a range of ages. Not as prone to lost pieces as Lego or as difficult to construct. (The flip side is that there is less variety or freedom for imagination.) The big issue here -- you can find these for HALF AS MUCH at Target or some similar outlet. I purchased one of these for my 3 year old daughter. I was amazed at how sturdy this little toy car was, how well it rolled, how easy it was to take apart and put back together... The only little thing that bugged me is that the tires can only go on one way (no deep rims) I can't wait to get my daughter a couple more so that she can interchange the parts on them. I might even splurge for a couple of the full-size cars with the people. It's such a good quality toy that I don't feel like I have to worry about it falling apart... What a great toy. It is actually amazing that this toy is educational, engaging, fun, and requires no batteries. My 2 1/2 yr. old B/G twins love these. They have the pink coupe, blue sedan, and green truck. He is even kind to the small engines when they get into difficulties, as well as the big engines even when they are rude or impatient. Although Edward is the same blue color as Thomas (#1) and Gordon (#4), #2 Edward is a staple on the Island of Sodor--making it into almost every episode and Thomas the Tank Engine book. Edward comes in two parts, held together by a strong magnet, and is very sturdy. My son has had his for years, and it still looks good as new! (Despite HOURS of playing). Although he isn't colorful, he's a reliable fixture on the Island of Sodor. My son absolutely adores all his Thomas the Tank Engine stuff. What can I say? Edward the Blue Engine is a fine addition to any child's collection. I know Edward is old and my train sure is but he can still pull trains likje the big engines. A cool thing about Edward and all the other tender engines is that little kids love to take the tender on and off. I thinks it's so funny when they do that. (A real little workhorse) (My 3 year old grandson loved this!) (A GREAT toy!) I purchased this as a gift for one of my grandsons. I was a little disappointed in the size (it was smaller than I anticipated) but that was soon changed. My grandson has lots of fun playing in the dirt and it is the perfect size for his little self. I used this "toy" as a model for OSHA lift truck training. It is detailed, to scale and well made to last. It arrived quickly and served my purpose perfectly. My son fell in love with the Bruder trucks at the toy store when he was 2 years old. The skid-steer loader was the first one we got for him, and he's been happily playing with it for about a year and a half at this point. We chose it in part because it was smaller than some of the others and a better size for him at the time. My son is not at all gentle on his trucks: he expects them to work and work hard. This little loader has gone through gravel, sandpiles, mulch and macaroni in its time, and it's still in great shape. We just give it a rinse when it gets too dirty to come back inside. The mechanism which allows the arm to remain raised in the air has worn slightly and slips if there is any weight in the bucket (probably from sand getting into it); beyond that it has worn very well indeed. We have since purchased a number of other Bruder trucks for our son and they are among his favorite toys. I gave this loader to my 3 year old grandson who is a "construction vehicle afficiando" ;). He actually screamed with delight when he opened the box! My daughter says he loves this toy and plays with it often. I don't know how it will hold up over the years, but it seems like it is put together well. (It is plastic and not metal, so we'll see.) My son got this toy for his first birthday. He is absolutely in love with this truck, and carries it everywhere. He doesn't yet have the finger dexterity to push the little buttons to make the noises, but when we do it for him he loves it. He can also hit at it and make some of the noises work, just by chance. There are a number of different noises and some great flashing lights, along with a shaking function and it goes forward and back. The lever that makes the bucket go up and down is great though, and he can manipulate it really easily. He loves loading leaves, toys, anything he can find into the bucket and raising and lowering it. The batteries run down pretty quickly, which is our only complaint - but I am more than willing to pay for batteries to keep the baby this occupied! A great toy. A versatile loader truck to handle every job, big and small! In addition to the included bucket that can be lowered and raised, this small truck can be fitted with a number of different forks and tool accessories, sold separately. It's great seeing him re-enact a scene from the TV show and movies with his trains. =) Thomas wooden trains are fantastic. They are well made, sturdy, and stand up to lots of use from kids. I also appreciate that Thomas engines and cars have faces on the front of them. These faces on the toys help my young train user identify the correct way to face the trains and get them to connect. He knows that the face is at the front of the car, and that's where it connects. While for engines like Bill and Ben this isn't a huge deal, this is a huge deal with the boxcars. We will buy more Thomas trains soon. Watch for cheap deals from Amazon Sellers, don't pay full price! If your child is into trains, this is a great addition to your collection.
