Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The best Flash figure yet!!) 『One of the many problems that I've had over the years with DC figures is that they seemed to only be 'figurines' or 'statues' as opposed to action figures. The sculpts were very nice, but they had little-to-no points of articulation, and they were exorbitantly priced. But then DC got down off of their 'collectable only' pedestal and started following the amazing work done by Marvel and Toy Biz/Hasbro on the MARVEL LEGENDS series; making beautifully sculpted figures with dozens of points of articulation that you can actually play with AND that are also affordable. This was something that DC DIRECT had been missing, but they joined forces with Mattel and started making the DC UNIVERSE figures, which like the Marvel figures, have the above improvements.
Now, they've been making consistently better figures since their trial run with the Batman and Superman-related figures, and have expanded their figure repertiore with Silver Age, Bronze Age and Modern Age heroes ranging from the obscure (Big Barda, Firestorm, Etrigan, Batman Beyond, Cyborg, etc.) to the must-haves (Green Lantern, Nightwing, Wonder Woman, The Riddler). And this figure of THE FLASH is no exception. It's a beautiful figure with many many points of articulation. And moreso, it's affordable. In years to come, many of the DC Direct figures will find their way into cut-out bargain bins, but the DC Universe figures will have places for action figure collectors for all time!』
(DC Universe Classics: Barry Allen as the Flash Returns) 『As you may already know, DC Comics will soon be presenting its much-hyped "Flash: Rebirth" mini-series, which will re-introduce the Silver Age Flash (Barry Allen) to modern comic book fans. After his poignant and truly heroic demise a quarter-century ago in the epic "Crisis on Infinite Earths" maxi-series, there have been very few attempts to resurrect Barry Allen's Flash as an action figure, including one a few years from the excellent "Crisis" action figures from DC Direct. Courtesy of Mattel's DC Universe Classics franchise, you needn't wait any longer.
Initially, I was surprised that this Flash is actually Barry Allen and not his nephew (and successor), Wally West, but with the "Flash: Rebirth" in stores in a matter of a few weeks, it now makes perfect sense, timing wise. And yes, Wally West appears in this same wave as the Silver Age Kid Flash, but, unfortunately, his rendition is far less stellar than that of his legendary mentor.
The sculpting is simply terrific in recreating Barry's trademark costume that became so familiar with fans from the nostalgic era of the "Super Friends" animated cartoons and its related Kenner "Super Powers" action figure franchise. The articulation points are sufficient enough to give Barry a decent number of poses, and he can stand up indefinitely without a support base.
Assuming you can find this figure, I highly recommend it as a solid investment for collectors. Barry Allen is back, no doubt about it. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The first public speaking action figure, but I want that 6th inch back) 『I was really looking forward to getting this action figure of Lou Gehrig, not just because I collect all McFarlane's New York Yankees figures but because I am a rhetorician and could show this one to my students in rhetorical criticism as the first (to my knowledge) action figure of a public speaker. That is because Gehrig is depicted giving his famous speech on July 4, 1939, when they held "Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day" at Yankee Stadium, and declared: "Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth" (Note: the famous line comes at the beginning of his speech and not at the end, as depicted in "The Pride of the Yankees").
The good news is that this figure looks great. Obviously the pose of Gehrig standing before a microphone with his head bowed, recieving the thunderous applause from the Yankee Stadium crowd, is the most unique McFarlane has produced of the hundreds of baseball figures issued to date. The sculpture of Gehrig's face is pretty decent, although sometimes I detect a hint of Gary Cooper and even Ronald Reagan when I look at it. The pinstripping is also excelelnt. The patch on Gehrig's left sleeve is for the 1939 Baseball Centennial, the first patch to be worn on the sleeve of all Major League uniforms (1939 was also the year that baseball's Hall of Fame opened in Cooperstown, New York). There is some slight flexibility with the two lower arms, but not enough to significantly alter the historic pose. You could not ask for more for the first public speaking action figure.
However, the bad news is that the 2009 series of McFarlane's MLB Cooperstown figures are smaller than its predecessors. My intention was to put my Gehrig figure wearing #4 on top of the bookcase where I display my Yankees Hall of Famers, in between Babe Ruth (who is not wearing his famous #3) and Joe DiMaggio with his #5 jersey. Both Ruth and DiMaggio are shown at the end of their swings, so it would have made a nice little tableau with Gehrig standing in between them, but his five-inch tall figure looks like a skinny little kid next to their six-inch figures. The pitching figure released this year of Babe Ruth--which I picked up with the Yankee variant but which makes more historical sense as the Boston Red Sox version--is also done on the five-inch scale, so the entire series is done this way. To say I am disappointed is an understatemtn, but they frown on profanity in these reviews. Consequently, I have my Gehrig figure sitting on top of my computer rather than in its proper place with the figures of the other Yankees immortals.

I'd say he's around 15% smaller than any other figure. I don't know if the entire wave is smaller, but this was a shock. Its tiny! Maybe savvy Star Wars collectors know the value of this item but for a lay person like me, its a rip off! Its a tiny piece of plastic with no moving parts and costs $23.00? It looks like it should come out of a .25 cent gumball machine! I'll be sending it back for a refund - even though it didn't come with a packing slip or invoice of any kind. It stands by 1/6 (30 cm tall)and it was released in August 11, 2007 so get it while they last. But the downside about this statue is that her colored clothes are orange rather then red.
