『What is with zombies that people get attracted to them? George Romero made a career because if them, and even Michael Jackson jumped into the wagon. So it was matter of time before a funny and original - if there is such thing with zombies - movie about the living dead would make it to the big screen. "Zombieland" will certainly give you that, and, provided that you can stand a good dose of guts and blood, you'll have a great time.

Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) appears to be the only survivor in a world in which a deadly virus wiped out mankind. He describes the country as "The United States of Zombieland," because the virus transformed people into zombies that will kill and eat any human that they come across with. We find Columbus wondering in a Texan town, trying to find his way to his hometown in Columbus, Ohio, so that he can find out his parents' fate. For this purpose he has developed a series of techniques to survive zombies, including "cardio", "seatbealts", "double tap," and others (you need to see the film to understand this terminology). On his way to Ohio, he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a tough-looking character, who has also been able to survive the infection, and who would kill for a Twinkie. Along the way, they unwillingly hook up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), two no-nonsense, experienced girls that have also been able to stay human. Together, as you might expect, they find and fight more zombies, meet Bill Murray (in a surprising and weird appearance), and even find time for love.

"Zombieland" has as much gore as you can imagine, but it provides for good fun. After so many movies that you might think are directed to sick, perverse minds - I can't believe that there is an audience for this-, it is healthy that somebody took a comedic look at it. And that's all we want. The DVD includes deleted scenes; commentaries by Harrelson, Eisenberg, director Ruben Fleischer, and writers Rhett Resse and Paul Wernick; making-of documentary; and more. ("Zombieland"-It's all about the Twinkies (Blu-ray review))

『Zombies are such high maintence. You have to walk them. You have to give them a double tap if you want to kill them. You have to be careful because they bite (and then eat you). It's a wonder they survive in "Zombieland" a horror comedy that is so good I was sure Hollywood had adapted a graphic novel (it couldn't possibly be an original script if it's THAT funny could it?). Where did all the zombies come from? Blame a hamburger infested with Mad Cow Disease hanging with bacteria from an AM/PM type minimart.

"Zombieland" make take its inspiration from "Shaun of the Dead" and the original "Dawn of the Dead" but it quickly develops its own quirky personality. "Zombieland" strikes just the right balance between humor and gore and manages to be something other than your average B movie in the process. Well directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script originally written as a TV pilot by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (with uncredited rewrites by William Goldman the writer behind such classics as "Marathon Man", "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid"), "Zombieland" will have you chuckling particularly the joke buried at the end of the credits between Harrelson and his one time co-star (I don't want to spoil which celebrity makes a cameo appearence).

The Blu-ray is a bloody mess in a good way. Colors and skin tones are dead on (even for the zombies), detail remarkably good and the movie has some light grain to give it a film-like appearence (it was shot on HD video). This is a top notch Blu-ray transfer and I imagine that the regular DVD probably looks quite good as well (although I haven't seen it)

The special features are the same for both the DVD and Blu-ray with one notable exception. Aside from a traditional commentary track featuring Woody Harrelson, Ruben Flesicher, Jessie Eisenberg and writers Rhett Reese&Paul Wernick. They discuss everything from the changes made in the original script when it was clear it wasn't going to be a TV pilot to a theatrical movie to ad libs. We also get a PIP (picture-in-picture) that takes us behind-the-scenes as we watch the movie including animatics and how the various physical effects were done as well.

"Zombieland Is Your Land" a glimpse into how the U.S. became "zombiefied" (yeah, I made the word up). We also get a behind-the-scenes featurette on the making of the movie "In Search of Zombieland" as well as the original theatrical promo trailers.

Exclusive to Blu-ray in addition to the PIP feature we get "Movie IQ" allowing you to access real time trivia on the movie.

Best Buy have included a DVD with two featurettes (this is the special "Nutt Up or Shut Up Edition"). "Shootin' Zombies with Ruben Fleischer" gives the director room to talk about creating the opening sequence and other bits of info. We also see some amusing bits that didn't make the opening. The second featurette is "Behind the Scenes with the Cast and Crew of Zombieland" a decent featurette that expands on the behind-the-scenes featurette included on the regular DVD and Blu-ray editions of the movie.

SYNPOSIS BELOW (BEWARE OF MINOR SPOILERS):

The survivors of this meat sack landscape call each other by the towns they are from so as not to get too personally involved if, say, they have to ditch them or a kill them later. "Columbus"(Jessie Eisenberg) a college student who really dislikes people and discovers that when most of them are gone he really misses them. Columbus has survived by creating a series of rules when it comes to dealing with people, zombies, bathrooms and escape routes. When he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson)while on the road back to his family the two strike up an unusual bond becoming buddies (well sort of). Tallahasse has two things on his mind-1) killing zombies and 2) finding a Twinkie--and a Snoball just WON'T do. The duo may have met their match in Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin)con artist sisters who have managed to survive the plague with one goal--to go to a zombie free amusement park in California.

"Zombieland" is funner than a shooting gallery. Highly recommended.

『Sorry folks,didn't find this movie scary or funny.for a realy good funny/horror comedy try Evil Dead2,Dead Alive,or Reanimator.Was realy disappointed when I got this home and watched this.I realy wanted to like this after the good reviews that I read.Apart from a few zombies,the zombie actors were weak.The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because I enjoyed the conartist girls,they realy made this piece of garbage watchable.』

『Actually watched this carnival of insanity...my next door neighbor handed it to me and said to watch it, which happened, and then it was returned. Out of curiosity, read the Amazon reveiws and was not really that surprised.
There is something going on in our society which is causing a numbing-down of the very thing that keeps us alive...life.
One of the symptoms is this type of "fun" where anything goes...and, indeed, it all goes...and no one seems to realize what is really going on, is that our conscience (note the word "science" in conscience) is being turned into spaghetti. Hopefully, someone will get the idea of removing all the gore, horrific language coming out of the mouths of children, and all the other scourges that this movie wallows in, and give us a really well-written, truly fascinating and non-toxic walk on the wild side!』

『I truly enjoyed this movie about the adventures of 4 people on the road as they travel through a sort of post apocalyptic zombie infested USA. The cast did all they could be expected to do with this sort of silliness (and the Bill Murray cameo is unforgettable).

Gosh, what can I say that can convey why I liked this film. . . Perhaps it is the innocence. All of the people are fundamentally decent (a little grifting aside); they all basically care about one another; and they manage to create a family with what little is left of the world.

All the blood and gore aside, you just gotta love that.

Having said all that, I have to say that I thought the basic structure of the story was well done, too. The editing was very effective, without being distracting. I loved the costuming and makeup (who doesn't love zombie makeup??). Some of my family members have been involved in mock disaster drills (in full disaster victim makeup, or moulage as they call it), and as soon as we saw the zombies, we all shouted "Moulage!" The zombies were excellently done.

I understand that the final scene was shot in freezing weather, tho they were supposed to be in southern California. Hats off to the cast for not shivering, too!

If you want an evening of family fun (though gruesome), this is a good movie for you.』

『If there's been a zombie apocalypse and you're road-tripping alone though the wasteland, you could do worse than run into Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a bourbon-swilling bad-boy butt-kicker with a really cool car. This is where the careful hero ofZombieland, a kid nicknamed Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), finds himself early in the film, and you can hardly blame him for hitching a ride with this swaggering Alpha Male. Still, they have their hands full not only with gibbering zombies but also with two sisters (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin) who will stop at nothing to reach a Disneyland-like amusement park in L.A. AlthoughZombielandgets off to a rocky start with Columbus's overly-cute narration (he's got a list of rules for surviving in the zombie world), it settles into an amusing comedy, regularly interrupted by bouts of blood-letting. The road-trip stuff is enough fun that when the movie does arrive at its version of Disneyland, the air goes out of it a little; sure, there's a giant zombie blowout, with entrails flying, but it's not quite the same. Director Ruben Fleischer keeps the gags coming, although the movie is often funnier in its odd little asides (both Eisenberg and Harrelson are expert at this) than in its official jokes. Comic high point: an interlude at the home of a very famous movie star, who plays himself--and we'll leave the spoiler unspoiled, in case anybody hasn't heard about this funny extended cameo.--Robert Horton
