(Must have for any Buffy Fan!)
『If you love Buffy The Vampire Slayer then this is a sure buy! I Dvd's are great quality and full of special features.』

(The Best Season, Even Slimmer!)
『These "Slim Sets" are getting even slimmer, now six discs just maybe a couple millimeters wider than a regular DVD...which RULES.

Also, what more could be said about Buffy? It rules, but this season features:

1. The best Big Bad ever, the Mayor!
2. uhh, FAITH!
3. Oz being awesome.
4. Two words: Band Candy.』

(Love Buffy and Angel, season 3 rocks!!!!)
『I love this season, mostly because Angel is in this season, this season is a little darker, than season 1&2, even though I love Buffy and Angel, together, I love Angel all by himself. Kind of sad, the way Faith turned on the gang though; she was really evil to the core of her heart. Great job Joss Whedon.』

(Great)
『This is a great season of Buffy. It is a wonderful addition to anyone's collection. I highly recommend it.』

(Buffy's best season ever?)
『And so we move on to season 3 of Buffy, doing the impossible and pretty much topping season 2, or close to it, with even better stories, new characters--hey--come on, who is as hot and as evil as Faith? while ringing more emotional turmoil out of us Buffy love slaves!! Oh and lets not forget our first intro to Anya, Xander's soon to be love demon no longer a demon love interest. The entire town is turned upside down thanks to Cordelia, in what is to me one of the top three episodes of all time "The Wish." when she makes her desires known to Anyanka. If you havent' see it, wow--perfect television. Other episodes to watch "Band Candy" which will continue to have hilarious reprecusions and come up as an in joke for the next few seasons regarding Giles and Buffy's mom, "Faith, Hope, and Trick," which showcases Faith for the first time in a wicked intro for a tv series, and of course, the saga of the mayor of Sunnydale. To me it is still one of the all time best story lines on the show hands down. Terrifically acted, and played by all the characters with ease, if you were not hooked by season three you are not human!!!! Great great television. No one does it better then Joss Whedon and his crack writing staff.

『All 22 classic episodes are available for the first time in this exclusive 6-disc collectorÂ's edition. From Â"Faith, Hope&Trick,Â" Â"Band CandyÂ" and Â"Bad GirlsÂ" to Â"Consequences,Â" Â"EnemiesÂ" and Â"Graduation Day, Part Two,Â" these Season Three episodes are a must for every true Buffy fan.』
『The third season of Joss Whedon'sBuffy the Vampire Slayerwas marked by the arrival in Sunnydale of renegade slayer Faith (Eliza Dushku), a moody loner who seemed to like her demon-staking calling just a littletoomuch. While Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) was always wary of Faith, the two developed a deep friendship and appreciative rapport--that is, until the evil mayor of Sunnydale (Harry Groener) tapped into Faith's dark side and lured her into his plot to take over the world, first as a double agent spying on Buffy, then as out-and-out nemesis. And as the mayor's ascension approached--which happened to fall on Sunnydale High's graduation day--Buffy and Faith's battles got nastier and nastier, as Buffy attempted to wrestle with her dark side (literally and figuratively), save the world and her friends, and keep her lover Angel (David Boreanaz) out of Faith's evil clutches.

Chock-full of exceptional episodes, this third season started out with a bang (the superb season opener "Anne," in which a runaway Buffy finally returns to her Slayer calling) and never let up. Among other highlights, the season introduced former vengeance demon and soon-to-be regular Anya (Emma Caulfield), fleshed out Angel's tortured character (and readied him for his own series), and featured a hilarious doppelganger Willow (Alyson Hannigan), a vampire from a parallel universe, who in Willow's own words was "evil and... skanky... and kinda gay!" (Total foreshadowing there, folks.) The season's pièce de résistance, though, was the two-parter "Graduation Day," wherein Faith tries to kill Angel, and the students of Sunnydale High prepare to do battle with a mutated mayor and his army of demons. Aside from the series' exceptional writing and acting, this compelling year ofBuffywas anchored by the consistently excellent Gellar, as well as Dushku's complicated Faith, a girl youtrulylove to hate. By the time you finish these episodes, Faith will have cast a spell on you that you'll find very hard to shake.--Mark Englehart

(Two Words - "SHOCK VALUE")
『This is a great movie to sit down with friends and watch how they react to the things said and done in this movie. I gave it only 4 stars cause it's more talk than action, and so half the movie is not so interesting as it could have been.

It was kind of hard to read the English Subtitles, cause they talk to fast, so had to constantly put the film in slow motion or pause and replay most of the film as I watched it.

If you like films like "Blood Sucking Freaks" then this is a film you'll want to see.』

(That's 2 for 2, Pasolini)
『So, the first film I attempted to watch was The Decameron, a rather entertaining book by Boccaccio; I made it through about half before giving up. This time, despite tenacious attempts to get through the whole thing, history repeated itself, I stopped after around an hour. Not that it was overly disturbing for my naïve little eyes to behold... it was truly a stupid movie with absolutely unconvincing performances. The premise is a bunch of teenagers whisked away to a distant location (away from the eyes of the law) by some fascist authority figures who have an obsession with butts. Thus, they have anal intercourse whenever the mood strikes, they eat excrement, and tell moronic stories about gluteal prowess as aphrodisiacs. Now, I'm trying to imagine a scenario in real life where this could actually happen. Nothing comes up. Pasolini has a unique talent for finding ugly actors for his movies, ugly actorswith no talent, mind you (some of the girls were cute). Anyway, that's 2 strikes for this director in my book, I won't be looking for a third. I'd tell him to keep it up, but he's already dead.』

(Be Aware...)
『This movie will scar you. It's not a particularly good movie, nor was it made to be enjoyable. If you are looking for a nice entertaining movie, this one is not for you.』

(Unique to say the Least)
『I bought this movie and received what I expected, a strange mix of political thought and perverse thought. I liked it but not for the message. I read the book that came with it and other reviews but I see this more as a chance for a director to act out on screen his fantasies and call it meaningful. I enjoyed it for what it was, a perverse little gem from the mind of a perverse man in the name of art. I can see social ties to a sick time in history, but only as an underlying thought. Great movie to have if you are a fan of bizarre cinema.』

(Almost good)
『I saw this film a few weeks ago, and had heard about it for the last 20 years or so. At the time of its making, and even now, it certainly would have been considered pornographic, disturbing, etc. However, beyond the explicit content, the film is generally poorly made. This is something it shares with the film Caligula, which did have a big budget, and some good performances that didn't mask the lame excuse to make fetish and bad porn accessible, as pseudo-art for middle America. I wouldn't recommend either, unless you were hopelessly naive about politics, fascism, and atrocity, ... hmmm. That probably covers a lot of film-goers after all.』
『Pier Paolo Pasolini s notorious final film, Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, has been called nauseating, shocking, depraved, pornographic . . . it s also a masterpiece. The controversial poet, novelist, and filmmaker s transposition of the Marquis de Sade s 18th-century opus of torture and degradation to 1944 Fascist Italy remains one of the most passionately debated films of all time, a thought-provoking inquiry into the political, social, and sexual dynamics that define the world we live in.

(Are you kidding me???)
『I don't want to ruin this for anyone but this show breaks too many of the murder mystery rules and for a 13 hour show...that just makes me mad. In a murder mystery you can't say here is the killer at the end of disc 10 when they never been introduce on screen before that...that's just shady business. Ten hours of red herrings that lead nowhere only to find out we've been pulled around blindly for ten hours. Half the cast has disappeared and finally someone thinks something might be wrong. All of that would have been forgiven if it hadn't been for the ridiculous last disc where all is reveled. My eyes were rolling back in my head with ever silly ass discovery and the ending was just plain lame. Thanks for the attemp but come on...』

(Pretty Good)
『First off, I will agree with the people who said that this show was very bloody. But, it's a murder mystery and being someone who watches CSI and Bones on a regular basis, I guess that fact didn't bother me that much (as scarey as that sounds to people...I know, it scares me too).

But, this show was very entertaining to watch. I love Agatha Christie books and this show just resembled And Then There Were None so much (my favorite one) that it just added to my enjoyment.

The not-so-lucky 13 episode show follows the story of a group of friends and family that returns to Harper's Island, years after John Wakefield committed a horrible mass murder, for the wedding of Henry (Christopher Gorham Ugly Betty - The Complete First Season) and Trish (Katie Cassidy When a Stranger Calls). Slowly, however, members of their group start being killed off by something unknown...or could it be the ghost of John Wakefield, back to finish what he started all those years ago?

It felt like the show was dragging on and on and it took people too long to realize that there were people actually dying all around them...not leaving the island to go back home (as they like to keep telling themselves).

Excellent and kinda creepy twist at the end and I was very happy that I watched the whole show, despite the drop in ratings. The fact that the actors, while filming the episodes, didn't even know who the killer was just made it seem even more believable. They were all scared and wanted answers.』

(LOVE this series!!)
『I absolutely loved this series! It was suspenseful and scary but also clean (not full of inappropriate language or sexual inuendos). Once you start viewing you will get nothing else done because you will NOT be able to turn it off.』

(HARPERS ISLAND)
『AFTER WATCHING THIS, I REALIZED I HAD MISSED 3 EPISODES, SO IT WAS EXCITING TO SEE THE WHOLE THING AT ONE SITTING. I WILL WATCH THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT IS AMAZING TO SEE THINGS IN THE BACKGROUND YOU NEVER NOTICED THE FIRST TIME.
WOULD RECOMMEND BUYING THIS FOR YOUR LIBRARY.』

(Who Done it)
『even though it was canceled it was addicting I had to finish watching to find who done it, i was shocked!』
『A horror-inspired drama, this CBS series is about a group of friends and family who meet to celebrate a wedding on an island just outside Seattle, an island that is famous for a streak of unsolved murders seven years ago. Suspense ensues when they end up dead one by one; has the killer returned or is someone else to blame?』
Harper's Island, the guiltiest pleasure of the 2009 summer TV season, is part Agatha Christie and partFriday the 13th. This cleverly plotted 13-episode CBS mystery event invites return visits to the eponymous island where a good portion of an ill-fated wedding party will not survive to celebrate the happy couple's first anniversary.Harper's Islandbegins with a "Whap" and goes out with a "Sigh" (each onomatopeaic episode title replicates the sound of a victim's demise). Here's the set-up: Pauper Henry (Christopher Gorham) and princess "Trish" (Katie Cassidy) have invited family and friends to Harper's Island, located 37 miles off the coast of Seattle, for their nuptials. Seven years earlier, John Wakefield slaughtered six people there. These were the first murders in the history of the island. A title card warns us they will not be the last. One by one, episode by episode, a killer (or killers) methodically picks off the wedding guests in grisly and gory fashion. Some characters are more expendable than others, and those who are dispatched early don't get the chance to make much of an impression (cousin Ben doesn't even make it out of the dock in the opening episode), but as the mystery unfolds and the body count escalates, viewers become more emotionally invested in those who survive the longest. For Abby Mills (Elaine Cassidy) this is all kinds of personal. Abby, Henry's once-inseparable childhood friend, has not been back to the island since Wakefield, presumed dead, slaughtered her mother. She is reunited with her estranged father, the sheriff (Jim Beaver), and Jimmy (C.J. Thomason), the boy she left behind.Harper's Islandwill keep viewers guessing until its final twist, which is a doozy, although somewhat suspect. But until then, the series is an effective horror show that gets under your skin with its attractive cast, soap-opera dramatics, tantalizing red herrings, and quality kills (although nothing in the show is as creepy as the unnerving little girl named Madison). Those who missed the boat whenHarper's Islandfirst aired are advised to steer clear of the spoiler-heavy bonus features until you've watched it through to the bloody end.--Donald Liebenson

(Classic)
『It is truely rare for a film to transend its plot, its genre. I am sure besides The Exorcist, there are examples, but I have thought hard and none come to mind

What does come to mind is that when see this film at the video store in the horror section, I just have to laugh. Horror is great, but calling Billy Friedkin's Exorcist is like calling the Beatles a rock and roll group or Picasso a painter.

And even that does not hold water. The Beatles and Picasso worked in their genres to define them. Exorsist takes elements of horror, but goes completely outside the box of horror fights or horror cheese.

A preist digs up an idol on a archeology site in Iraq. He knows he has found something evil, forces he cannot put back. Soon, in Georgetown Washington, a sweet little girl, daughter of a film star, develops what seems to be a psychatric illness. She morphs, slowly, into a sexualized monster.

This is what we think at first, and so does her mother. But she is not the monster. The monster is the devil himself. The mother does not know this, and after extensive psychological and medical treatment, goes to see a priest. The mother knows something even more awful--far more awful-than disease has taken her daugter. She is proven right when the beast comes out of the little girl and kills two priests during the exorsism, one having a crisis of faith, the other the priest who excavated the idol in Iraq.

This was 1973, which is part of the reason the Exorcist works so amazingly on so many levels. Horror was becomming more serious, graphic, and better made in the 1970s.

Friendkin, though, removes the always implied fiction of the genre . We are so sucked into the idea this child has a grave mental illness, it becomes plausable that she is in fact had by Satan himself.

Even the most secularized viewer of the Exorsist will feel the fear of this prospect. Dark nights, cold rooms, the mother being totally alone in the house: all the conventions that make standard horror creepy, and define it in our minds as fiction, are given concrete and awful reality. If it can happen to a film star in a major US city in 1973, it can happen to any of us. The devil is real.

Evil exsists, The Exorsist tells us, and can strike randomly at any time. We belive it.

1973 was David Bowie, key clubs, Watergate: even the most straight suburbinte was getting more secularized. The counter-culture was seeping to the mainstreem. God, the intellectuals thought, was dead. There was no evil or good, just relative behavior.

Friedkin is sticking it to us here in the most primal of ways: no good, no evil, like your textbooks, your encounter groups, your psychoanalysis?

HAVE THIS.

(IT'S A CLASSIC)
『this is a movie that sent chills down my spine when i was growing up. i had to have it for my collection and now that my daughter is grown it is one of her favorits also.』

(The Exorcist)
『When a 12-year old girl is possessed by demons, a young priest takes it upon himself to selflessly save her at the behest of her famous movie-star mother. In an era when many movies compete to scare the devil out of you, The Exorcist remains one of the few able to successfully scare the devil into you. This is one of the great horror movies.』

(didn't sleep for a week)
『they dont make horror films like this anymore, not for the children, but a must have for any horror collection』

(The most terrifying movie ever created ...)
『I remember watching scenes from this movie when i was around 9 years old and closing my eyes really tight and plugging my ears. My brother which was maybe 18 at the time knew how afraid i was of this movie and one time recorded her voice onto a tape recorder and placed it under my bed. When i went to bed he played it and i got out of bed crying, he got into so much trouble for that. I'm now 34 and this is the only film ever created which is truly terrifying to me. I cannot hear her voice or see her face, because it's an image or sound i cannot easily erase from my mind. We're adults now and it's a bit funny thinking back on it, but this film is one of my brothers favorites ... he has a magazine clipping of the Exorcists picture and not too long ago showed it to me when i wasn't expecting it and i ran out of the house screaming, (neighbors must have thought i was crazy). He still gets a kick out of it, although it was a good laugh for everyone. I tried watching it all the way through several years ago, but still covered my eyes and my ears ... anything having to do with demonic possession is just scary. This is one that is not easily forgotten.』

『Director William Friedkin was a hot ticket in Hollywood after the success ofThe French Connection, and he turned heads (in more ways than one) when he decided to makeThe Exorcistas his follow-up film. Adapted by William Peter Blatty from his controversial bestseller, this shocking 1973 thriller set an intense and often-copied milestone for screen terror with its unflinching depiction of a young girl (Linda Blair) who is possessed by an evil spirit. Jason Miller and Max von Sydow are perfectly cast as the priests who risk their sanity and their lives to administer the rites of demonic exorcism, and Ellen Burstyn plays Blair's mother, who can only stand by in horror as her daughter's body is wracked by satanic disfiguration. One of the most frightening films ever made with a soundtrack that's guaranteed to curl your blood,The Exorcistwas mysteriously plagued by troubles during production, and the years have not diminished its capacity to disturb even the most stoical viewers. (Must have for any Buffy Fan!)
『If you love Buffy The Vampire Slayer then this is a sure buy! The Dvd's are great quality and full of special features.』

(Buffy&Angel forever!!)
『By the time season 1 was done, season 2 put on the throttle and the series went from 0 to 60 in great fashion. The writing was cleaner, the visuals were more impressive and the characters came more into focus. As we fall more and more in love with Buffy and watch her trials and tribulations, characters like Xander, and especially Willow become so endearing and near to our hearts that you feel they are almost real. This is also the season that Buffy's love affair with Angel becomes ultra hot and heav. Then we meet Spike -- My favorite baddy of all time!!!! Listen closley to what Spike says in the episode "School Hard" when he referes to his relationship with Angel, because it is completley wrong, and the writers did not correct it till later once Drusilla's orgin was connected with Spike's. James Marster's Spike character was only supposed to be around for one or two episodes and then die, but he became an immediate hit so they left him on the series, hence the writers going back to correct the flub. You gotta love Josh for letting the mistake stand, he could have re edited the scene or did a voice over, but he left it just the way it was, worts and all. Get season 2, its classic, and to me, marked its territory as hands down the best show on TV, despite the emmy nominating committees suggesting otherwise.

『THE CHOSEN ONE HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN... Now you can own the entire second season of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. All 22 classic episodes are available for the first time in this exclusive 6-disc collector's edition. From "When She Was Bad," "Surprise" and "Innocence," to "Passion" and "Becoming, Part One" and "Becoming, Part Two," these Season Two episodes are a must for every true Buffy fan.』
『At the heart of the first years of Joss Whedon'sBuffy the Vampire Slayerwas the romance between Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), slayer of all things evil, and hunky Angel (David Boreanaz), the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul. The second season ofBuffytook the Buffy-Angelpas de deuxfrom ecstasy to agony in a now-classic plot arc that catapulted the show from WB teen drama to true TV greatness. You see, if the cursed Angel ever experiences true happiness for a moment, he'll revert to being an evil vampire again. And guess what happens after Buffy and Angel finally declare their love for one another and consummate their relationship...

Buffyfound its true momentum during the second season, as geeky Xander (Nicholas Brendon) fell in love with popular girl Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), Willow (Alyson Hannigan) gave up her crush on Xander in favor of werewolf boy Oz (Seth Green), and watcher Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) began a sweetly tentative relationship with computer teacher (and witch) Jenny Calendar (Robia LaMorte). Mayhem came to Sunnydale, though, in the form of evil vampires Drusilla (Juliet Landau) and Spike (drolly wicked James Marsters), who were more than ready to aid and abet Angel as he turned bad. It all sounds like horror-action mayhem (and there are great fight scenes), butBuffytook on its plotlines with amazing depth, intelligence, and humor. And oh, man, the love story! Buffy and Angel's tragic relationship is one of the most heartbreaking you'll ever find. Buffy's final dilemma finds her having to save the world at Angel's expense, and Gellar (who deserves a passel of Emmys for her work) is phenomenal at telegraphing Buffy's swirling conflicts between love and duty. This is some of the best TV ever made, period.--Mark Englehart

(Jigsaw's work continues...)
『The gore factor has increased somewhat, but I'm still enjoying them. This one is a little hard to follow unless you watch the 3rd one just before this one. The reason is this one covers the past and present of the series. The twist at the end was pretty good too. The test storyline is pretty good too-but I won't tell it right now. More of Jsaws past is revealed as well, but the twist you'll have to figure out on your own.』

((3.5 Stars) "Don't expect to be left untested")
『At the end of Saw III both John Kramer "Jigsaw" and Amanda Young were dead and there didn't seem to be anything else to say and the Saw story seemed to have reached a conclusion. The fact that Saw IV was released proves otherwise. After an autopsy on Jigsaw's body a tape is found in his stomach. The micro-cassette is then given to Detective Mark Hoffman in which Jigsaw told him not to think he will be left untested and that the games are not over just because he's dead. This movie's game tests Lieutenant Riggs who remains convinced that Eric Matthews (Saw II) is not dead (in this Saw we watch his fate as well). Saw IV provides plenty of flashback to explain past events as we learn how Jigsaw first started the "games", his motivations, the first trap he made and more. Best of all it makes sense and provides logic which is not provided in many horror movies that tend to ignore this. It opens the doors for what's next to come in Saw while at the same it reveals the story's origins.

Some may think of it as not a real Saw but rather a 3.5 but I disagree, it has its own story and they probably say this because of the flashbacks. I felt this Saw was a transition from the first three movies to the future of the series. I think the transition was well made and that despite not being one of the best Saw movies it's still a very good one that is surely worth it. The traps were once again terrific and it had an excellent story. 3 1/2 Stars for Saw IV.

(Should have been Saw 3.5)
『This movie really shouldn't have been a stand alone installment. It's short and really connects to Saw III. They should have made Saw III longer and added these plot lines. It's similar to Saw III in that a character watches others make decisions, and Jigsaw tries to recruit them, as you try to figure out who is helping Jigsaw. Jigsaw is not as centric as in the other films. He is in flashbacks not real time in the movie. The flashbacks show what made Jigsaw who he is, but it cuts down on the suspense. I wish that Detective Hoffman was more explained his back story is foggy at best. I swear that some of the victims that have been killed in the opening of these films have more lines then he does. Other than that a decent film with nice flash backs but they hurt the overall suspense.』

(this movie is good)
『This movie is great. Almost all saw movies are good. The twist in this one is one of the best in any movie.

『Movie DVD』
『Even death itself can't bring the savage games of Jigsaw to an end, asSaw IVproves; if anything, the fiendishly clever serial killer (once again played by Tobin Bell) is equally capable of dealing out violent death while lying on a morgue slab as he was in life.Saw IValso offers a class reunion of characters from the previous three films, each once again up to their necks in Jigsaw's schemes. Chief among them is Sgt. Rigg (Lyriq Bent) fromSaw II, who must place himself in Jigsaw's shoes in order to rescue Detective Matthews (Donnie Walhberg), who was abducted by the killer at the end ofSaw II, and Forensic Hoffman (Costas Mandylor from SawIII), from another elaborate murder device. Meanwhile, FBI agents led by Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls, Aliens in America) attempt to track Rigg as he carries out Jigsaw's horrific notion of justice from beyond the grave. Casual horror fans may find the endless puzzles and relentless nihilism of the Saw series wearing thin with this fourth entry, but the franchise's key selling points--the Sadean excesses of Jigsaw's macabre creations--remain as bloody and unsettling as ever.--Paul Gaita

(Halloween Remake is easily the most Brutal Film of 2007)
『Me and My mom went to go see this opening weekend and well that ruined her weekend, she hates horror movies, but i love them to death

Plot- Michael Myers is a 10 year old boy that has been in a mental instatution for 17 years (And he has not spoken a word for 15 years) but now he has broken out and is on a violent killing spree searching for his (still living) baby sister

Acting- a lot of f words

Gore- brutal head bashing, some slit throats, a lot of blood splatter, a bully gets beaten up with a stick, yeah it was mean

Bottom Line- 3 out of 5

Rated R for strong brutal bloody violence, and terror throughout, sexual content, graphic nudity, and langauge, Time 121min, 2007, Color』

(Rob all the way)
『Man their are some major haters on rob zombie, jeez people this movie was a masterpiece&so was part 2&so will be any movie rob zombie touches in the near future, like i said this movie was plain awesome&if you don't have it then your not a true Halloween fan&that's just the facts =)』

("Goes deeper into Michael Myers's story")
『When Rob Zombie released a remake of the first Halloween movie in 2007 reactions were mixed and many fans of the original couldn't understand why he was making a remake. This remake is different from the original and Zombie's remake of Halloween came as a total surprise to me; I didn't expect to like it at all and thought that he was going to ruin a classic of horror films. It goes deeper into the original Halloween story which I thought was fascinating and well done, it explains things and gives the movie more depth. I liked how the movie started with Michael Myers as a child and the flashback sequences which explained what just happened as Myers killed members of his family. You see an interview with Myers as a child and the setting is very interesting it tries to explain what happened. Then the movie progresses to the point where he is older and escapes from prison and murders people. There is more gore and everything seems more brutal than in the original which was to be expected and makes it more according to today's standards in horror movies. Some things are different and entertaining and are not an exact copy of the original scene by scene which I thought was well done and creative of Rob Zombie. It's like he took the movie and added things to it and made it his own.

Most remakes tend to be pretty bad (even if there are some great ones) and contrary to what many fans thought of Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween I actually enjoyed it and found it was a decent remake. Make no mistake this remake is not as good as the original one and it will never be I just think it was good and that it gave the movie an interesting twist to it. I thought it turned out better than some of the sequels. All I can say is that it's worth watching fans of the original or just curious people.

(Did We Really Need This Flick?)
『It's so typical that the notion of Michael Myers simply being born evil is essentially thrown out the window and replaced with the usual boy-within-a-dysfunctional-family deal. How very 21st century and how very lame. Besides the fact that I have been immune to these movies since the late 1980's, this film was a waste of my time. The only highlights were the appearances of Ken Foree (from the superior original version of "Dawn Of The Dead") and Micky Dolenz (of the 1960's band and TV show "The Monkees"). Other than that, ho hum. It's also too long.

Note to Hollywood: please stop with the remakes. Get some creative people in there and give us something new and fresh. Don't be afraid to try a worthwhile idea that does not require reaching back into the past. John Carpenter's superior "Halloween" was 1978. It should be left alone.』

(Careful With That Axe, Eugene)
『If you're autistic, like I am, you'll probably want to thrill to this documentary which explores the link between autism and mass violence. You see, Michael Meyers, like most autistics, finds himself lost in a world he never made. A world populated by frighteningly vulgar and loud neurotypicals who encroach relentlessly, victimizing him until he lashes out with great and fiery vengeance, laying waste to the sordid humanoids around him in a blistering blaze of white heat. The sister's boyfriend who got put down with an alunimum bat was particularly deserving of this fate, by the way. Just before getting his head beaten in, you see him fashioning a sandwich from noisesome cold cuts. He's the type of person who has absolutely no personality whatsoever, apart from a basic sloppiness of demeanor and a shaggy mane of hair that is in the process of fusing into white dreads. Such a pity his early demise. The world has lost so very much.

Michael then is unjustly incarcerated just for being a freedom fighter. His mother can't take how great he is, and so she blows her brainz out. Whatta shame. So then Michael lays waste to some worthless hillbillies and busts right out of the mental hooskow, leading the resident psychiatrist and stereotypical liberal to bleat "ooohh... oooh!"

Flash forward to later that night. More people need Michael to give them a proper seeing to, which he does, very autistically. You see, the man behind the mask is the perfect metaphor for autism. The sense of disconnect and alienation, the sense of needing shelter... add in the fact that the original Meyers mask was adapted from a rubber mask of Captain Kirk (William Shatner interpretation) and we've come full circle. Stick a knife in this one. It's well done. Rob Zombie learned from his mistakes in his first two movies and turned out an excellent movie.』

『The original slasher film about Michael Myers, the psychotic killer who dons a mask and terrorizes his hometown, is re-imagined by edgy director Rob Zombie.』
『More of a supercharged revamp than a remake, Rob Zombie's take on John Carpenter'sHalloweenexpands the back story of masked killer Michael Myers in an attempt to examine the motivation for his first deadly attack, as well as some reasons for his longevity as a horror icon. Zombie's Myers is a blank-eyed teen (played by Daeg Faerch) whose burgeoning mental problems are left unchecked in a horrific home environment; harassed by schoolmates, a randy sister, and his mother's deadbeat boyfriend (William Forsythe, terrific as usual), Myers' homicidal explosion seems inevitable, and intervention by Dr. Sam Loomis (Malcolm McDowell, who offers a fast-talking, hippiefied version of the Donald Pleasance character) does little to impede his development into a mute, unstoppable killing machine (Tyler Mane) bent on finishing off the only survivor of his family's massacre--his sister, now grown into teenaged Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton). Opening up the psychological motivation of a cipher like Michael Myers is an interesting approach, but Zombie's script possesses neither a depth of character nor dialogue to offer more than a clichéd thumbnail character sketch, and devoting over a hour of the unrated cut's 120-minute-plus running time to this history feels bloated and self-indulgent (especially when compared to the lean efficiency of the Carpenter original). Zombie'sHalloweenisn't terribly suspenseful, either; he has a keen eye for visuals and the details of chaotic environments, but his scares are nothing more than brutal showcases for his special effects team. The end result barely surpasses the original film's numerous sequels, though the Who's Who of cult and character actors in the cast (including Zombie regulars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Ken Foree, as well as Brad Dourif, Udo Kier, Clint Howard, Richard Lynch, Danny Trejo, Dee Wallace, and Danielle Harris) adds a touch of late-night monster movie charm. However, the film's best performance belongs to the director's spouse, Sheri Moon Zombie, who brings unexpected pathos to the role of Myers' downtrodden mother.

The two-disc Unrated Director's Cut offers a full disc's worth of extras that should please Zombie fans; chief among the supplemental features is his commentary, which details the film's shooting history and the numerous edits required to deliver the theatrical version. A making-of featurette offers further details of Zombie's vision for the film, and there are featurettes on his cast choices and the many masks that Myers makes while incarcerated. Seventeen deleted scenes (two of which feature Adrienne Barbeau and Tom Towles) and an alternate ending (all with Zombie's commentary) are also provided, as well as footage from the casting sessions. A blooper reel, which is highlighted by unchecked mischief by McDowell and Dourif, offers the set's sole moment of levity.-- Paul Gaita

(Great Introduction to the Series)
『If you are a fan of Lexx this is a must have. Great to shed some light on the origin of the TV series. The only dissapointment is the actress that plays Zev. She isn't as good as the Xev on the series. Great insight to Kai and Stan's origin also. 790 is just as funny. Must buy for fans of this unique and sexy series.』

(Great editon of the Weird but Fantastic series)
『If you were a fan of Lexx, the this is the first buy of the series that you should make. I had to take one star away for the menu at the front, I would have thought they would have put more work into that. But still, I felt that the product itself comes nicely packaged and the video is crisp and clean. If you have never seen Lexx, start with this set! It's cheesy, goofy, bizarre, imaginative, weird, fantastic, and just a great romp! It has one shower scene where you see Zev in the buff (slightly - too bad it's so slightly) but other than that it's pretty much PG except for the over outrageous unbelievable violence. Like the older Doctor Who's, the cheesy special effects just add to the overall wonderful flavor! BUY IT, WATCH IT, HAVE SOME FUN!Lexx: Season One (4-DVD Pack)』

『This is great. Now if only the regular seasons would come down in price.』

(A Great Show, but this DVD set is lacking)
『I was very excited when I heard that Lexx, Season 1 was finally being re-released. Finally, a way to get all 4 movies for a reasonable price.

As any fan of Lexx will tell you, this is not your ordinary Sci-Fi show. It features quirky characters in an odd universe that drips with very thinly veiled erotic themes. This is not a show for children, but for adults who can understand its mature themes.

Each movie comes on it's own disc, so there are 4 discs in total. The insert unvolds to reveal 2 discs on each side, with one disc overlapping the other, making it impossible to remove the lower disc without first removing the upper disc. This is a bit of a pain, and I would have preferred an individual thinpack for each disc.

Additionally, each movie is presented in "Fullscreen" 1.33:1 ratio rather than Widescreen 2.35:1. It seems odd, given the populary of the Widescreen ratio, that they would choose to release this in Fullscreen instead.

Finally, the menu screens are very basic, with the only option beyond "Play" being the Chapter selection. However, there isn't one single extra feature on any of the DVDs. No deleted scenes, no cast interviews, and no commentaries. Not even a TV spot or stills from production. Absolutely nothing beyond the movies themselves.

Still, this is a great show that I would recommend to anyone looking for something different. The show itself deserves a 5/5 rating, but this set deserves a 3/5 at best. Part of me wonders if they'll come out with a better set in a few years, but I suppose that's the nature of these things.』

(Plummer and Mason make a great duo.)
『Ah, Sherlock Holmes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic detective character has enjoyed innumerable media incarnations since his first appearance in magazine format in the 19th century. Basil Rathbone in the 1940s provided the most famous film series, while Jeremy Brett's BBC series in the 1980s was probably the definitive smallscreen version. But those are just two of the most famous examples (since joined by Robert Downey Jr.'s enjoyably testosterone-heavy verson from last Christmas); 1979's "Murder by Decree", an Anglo-Canadian co-production (which would explain the presence of a number of prominent Canadian performers, such as Christopher Plummer, Donald Sutherland, and Genevieve Bujold). Not an adaptation of part of Conan Doyle's canon, rather, an original yarn, "Murder by Decree" is the prominent screen version of one of post-Doyle Holmes authors' favourite story setups: the great detective vs. Jack the Ripper. Spoilers follow.

We open in Victorian London with a night at the opera (for a performance of "Lucrezia Borgia", which is a subtle tie-in to many of the themes of the film itself), a nifty opening that immediately sets the stage for the simmering class tensions that underlay much of the film (though they don't drive the plot). The film opens with Jack claiming his third victim, and the police have been confounded, but they have yet to call on Holmes (Plummer), much to his and Watson's (James Mason) puzzlement. Eventually summoned by an anonymous source, it becomes apparent that the head of the police isn't keen on Holmes' participation. Engaged by a group of businessmen (or are they?), Holmes takes on the case anyway, and finds himself in the middle of a number of conspiracies (the title itself should tell you a lot, though it's actually somewhat misleading in the end).

As far as Ripper-ology goes, this is a filmed version of the Prince Albert Victor/Masonic conspiracy theory (Sutherland is Robert Lees, the psychic, in a cameo; Bujold is Annie Crook), the one more famously seen in Alan Moore's "From Hell" and its cheap film adaptation. This version instantly wins points from me by casting the murdered women as dowdy/unattractive women over 40 (well, apart from Bujold, but she's a long way from a supermodel too), like they were in real life, rather than in "From Hell" the film, where they're all sexy twentysomethings. There's no glamourization of poverty and prostitution here, the same sort of thing that Moore the author was keen to avoid in his writing. And their take on the conspiracy itself even makes a modicum of sense, since it actually brings up how absurd the idea that any sane person in Westminster or Buckingham Palace would regard a handful of prostitutes as a major threat to the monarchy. In this version, the higher-ups merely think it's "inconvenient", and two fairly deluded Masons take this as a sanction to get rid of the supposed problem, which the others then have to cover up to save the Order's face. Actually, it's very Watergate, which makes sense given the time of production.

This is perhaps the best entry on the supremely odd resume of the now-late director Bob Clarke, who had previously made the slasher film "Black Christmas", and whose subsequent efforts would include the infamous sex comedy "Porky's" and its sequel, and the cult classic Christmas film "A Christmas Story" (and "Baby Geniuses", but let us honour the dead and never speak of that again). Plummer is a fine Holmes, though a bit more emotive than many will be accustomed to; personally, I thought it was appropriate to give him a bit of humanity. A lot of his portrayals tend toward him being a walking brain and far too aloof. James Mason makes a bid to quietly steal the show as Watson; physically he's in the Nigel Bruce mould, but he's quite competent and not played exclusively for laughs, which is rare enough. Sutherland is fine in a cameo that seems mainly to serve to keep people guessing whether he'll turn out to have a more substantive part. Bujold has only one scene, but it's a crucial one, and very well-handled. Sir John Gielgud cameos as Lord Salisbury, honestly seeming a bit flat. A group of solid British actors fill out the rest of the cast.

Recommended.』

(Great movie - worth getting the DVD but which one ? Answer below)
『I basically bought the Lionsgate DVD on a recommendation of a DVD insider who figured the disc to be better than Anchor Bay
It is not. It is the EXACT same disc - the exact same menu, transfer , bonus material and chapter stops. Only this time it came from Lionsgate and not Anchor Bay.
That being said I will say Anchor Bay actually is still the DVD to get because it has the cool booklet
About the movie, well with all the other reviews about it , there is not much to add, but I will say that I do thoroughly enjoy it. Christopher Plummer as Sherlock Holmes, James Mason as Dr. Watson&a good supporting cast such as David Hemmings keeps the film going. It is Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper blended with Govt. corruption of sorts.
Is it the best Holmes film ? Arguably maybe it is , but to me, I would not go that far. It certainly is an excellent well done movie, but I have a stronger passion for Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. Maybe it is the best post Rathbone. Bob Clark's best movie - that is quite possible.
Very gothic, good atmosphere and pace make this one an easy keeper..
This film as well as The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes&The Seven Per-Cent solution are all worth watching / looking into.
Highly recommended movie, and if you were to get the DVD, I would go with the Anchor Bay one for the booklet :-)

(A Review)
『This is one of the best Sherlock Holmes films I've ever seen. The cast is a dream come true. Christopher Plumber is remarkably good at portraying Holmes. While staying true to Conan Doyle's description of the character in most respects, he adds a little more emotional depth in this interpretation which is effective in giving the character more dimension and helping the viewers to relate a little better. James Mason as a smarter version of Watson than what we're used to seeing and the exstremely gifted Genevieve Bujold as a mental patient are both expertly cast. The story is very interesting, imaginative, suspenseful and masterfully told in a convincingly Victorian atmosphere. No Sherlock Holmes fan should miss it.Thriller (Cassette/Tape, 9 Tracks, incl. (SHERLOCK HOLMES VS. JACK THE RIPPER)
『With the release of SHERLOCK HOLMES starring Robert Downey the world has once again discovered the penultimate sleuth. So what better time than now to go back and pull forth from the archives every Sherlock Holmes film ever made? The classics starring Basil Rathbone have been dusted off as well as the first competition between Holmes and Jack the ripper, STUDY IN TERROR. But perhaps one of the best films made about Holmes has been MURDER BY DECREEE.

In a set up is simple: Sherlock Holmes investigates the murders committed by Jack the Ripper. But the story delves more deeply than most would dare and results in a tale more terrifying in its implications than the usual fare. Rather than a simple brush off that pits the most famous detective against a serial killer, we find that there was a possible story behind the murders.

Jack the Ripper is terrifying the streets of London with his gruesome murderous ways, killing prostitutes in the streets and alleys of the East End. At the same time, Sherlock Holmes (Christopher Plummer) is at odds, trying to find something to pique his interest while between cases. After a night at the theater, Holmes' companion Dr. Watson (James Mason) suggests he use his abilities to find the killer. But this is not to be until Holmes abilities are called upon.

With each miniscule clue that Holmes finds, he discovers that this is not the work of a simple minded brute out to murder for no reason. The skill with which the women are eviscerated shows the work of a surgeon as opposed to a dock worker.

And other clues lead Holmes to discover that there may be ties to a secret organization that fears it may be discovered roaming the halls of government. The problem lies in Holmes finding the right clues and putting them together, finding the right people involved so that he can solve the riddle before more women die on the streets of the East End.

I know this isn't much in the way of describing what it is that Holmes finds or how he goes about discovering one clue after another. But to do so would remove all enjoyment that any viewer would get from this film, not just offering a spoiler but to give away the clues that would be used at the films end when Holmes sums up the tale before some of the most powerful men in England at the time.

Instead know that when you see this film you are witness to several craftsmen at the top of their game, making one of the best detective stories ever filmed. First off is Plummer, best known for his performance in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, but who shines here as Holmes. While watching him at work here you almost forget the collection of Basil Rathbone films that were held up as the epitome of Holmes movies. Plummer shows Holmes with a tough of wit, a bucket of indignation and the compassion that is rarely offered with the character.

We are also allowed to see the genius that was Bob Clark. Clark made a number of films in various genres but never seems to get much recognition. Like director John Badham (who made SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, SHORT CIRCUIT, DRACULA, BLUE THUNDER, WAR GAMES and STAKEOUT), Clark was a director who was never pigeonholed and who gave his all for every film he worked on.

Starting with three classic horror films (CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS, DEAD OF NIGHT and BLACK CHRISTMAS) Clark went on to make this film as well as the drama TRIBUTE, the PORKY'S comedies and one of the most watched films ever, A CHRISTMAS STORY. It's a shame that he passed away this last year before being recognized for his work.

Clark takes what could have been a routine mystery and turns it on its ear by giving a depth to the tale of Jack the Ripper that few films have. This was in part due to new research into the tale at the time (the film came out in 1979) but it would have been easy to dismiss it all and go for the easy path. Instead Clark offers a new look at the possibility of who Jack was or was a part of. And in so doing, we are presented with a mystery that exceeds most expectations.

I have little doubt that the new SHERLOCK HOLMES film will be a treat. And the classic films that featured Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce will always be fantastic. But for fans of Holmes, don't make the mistake of missing this one.

(Plummer's humanistic Holmes vs Jack the Ripper)
『MURDER BY DECREE is one of director Bob Clark's three generally highly-praised films along with the original BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974) and A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983). Not that they have an enormous amount in common other than their critical reputations and a few members of the cast and crew - but it's striking to compare them to the rest of his filmography - what an up and down career. This film, made on a fairly low budget in London in 1978 and released in February 1979, offers a more sympathetic and human Holmes (Christopher Plummer) than usual, and an older, wiser and experienced Watson (James Mason) who is very much his equal. The plot has Holmes getting reluctantly involved in the Jack the Ripper case, and uncovering a cover-up that goes to the highest levels of British government - and a secret society that has penetrated everywhere.

This is an at times cynical, inwardly progressive and feeling, but outwardly despairing Holmes who early on cautions Watson that the crowd that boos the Prince of Wales at a theater performance has good reason to, given the Prince's known appalling behavior - foreshadowing the unpleasantries he will soon become involved in. For all the low budget, the model work and atmospheric sets look pretty good - this is a film of nighttimes, dirty quays and back alleys, shadows, bloody murders and foggy chills. The cast is excellent from top to bottom, with Anthony Quayle's highhanded and brutish Sir Charles Warren probably being the standout amongst the secondary characters.

Ultimately though it's Plummer's show, and he brings a warmth and humanity to the role without ever sacrificing the erudition or quick-thinking man-of-action parts of the character's personality. Perhaps he is TOO humane and concerned with matters of society and progress to be an entirely "realistic" or "accurate" Holmes, but on the whole I think the filmmakers' choices were the correct ones - when dealing with something as sensational and brutal as Jack the Ripper, the cold analytical Holmes would probably be awfully alienating and even unpleasant to most audiences. We see a bit of that cold side to the man when he first interviews a group of Whitechapel men who are begging him to take on the case, and it's (deliberately) somewhat upsetting.

Excellent music that verges from atmospheric and low-key to noisy and atonal (by Paul Zaza and Carl Zittrer) and soft, wide-angle lensing by Reginald Morris, director Clark's usual DP. There are some slow spots for me around the halfway to two-thirds mark, and the confrontational "this is what you did and you'll have to live with it" scene towards the end seems a bit too moralistic to me, but on the whole this is certainly one of the best of all Holmes films and probably the best of the many Holmes-meets-the-Ripper stories.

『Sherlock Holmes hunts his deadliest adversary– the madman known as Jack the Ripper! When Scotland Yard is unable to stop the gruesome rampage of Jack the Ripper, a citizens' committee asks Sherlock Holmes (Christopher Plummer) and his trusted associate Dr. Watson (James Mason) to investigate. Now the brilliant pair must follow a terrifying trail of clues that includes a frightened psychic (Donald Sutherland), a suspicious inspector (David Hemmings), an institutionalized woman (Genevieve Bujold) and the Prime Minister of England (Sir John Gielgud). But even if Holmes' remarkable powers of deduction can unmask the maniacal fiend, can heand Watson face the most shocking secret of all? Find out in this masterful suspense thriller directed by Bob Clark (A CHRISTMAS STORY) that both fans and critics have called the most exciting and original Sherlock Holmes movie ever made.』
Murder by Decreehas the distinction of being not only one of the best Sherlock Holmes films, but one of the best pastiches (i.e., a Holmes fiction created by someone other than author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) featuring the late-Victorian Era detective. Christopher Plummer is very good as Holmes, and James Mason redeems the many mishandled screen portrayals of Dr. John Watson with a rare, insightful performance. The story may not be unique in post-Doyle Holmes adventures--the private investigator pursues Jack the Ripper during the latter's reign of monstrous murders in foggy London--but the script by John Hopkins (Thunderball) is keenly intelligent, developing concentric circles of power and evil with great subtlety. Before losing himself inPorky's, director Bob Clark did a masterful job of surprising audiences withMurder by Decree, convincing viewers they were watching one kind of drama but then unleashing something very different, very unsettling.--Tom Keogh

(American Werewolf in London Special Edition)
『Two American students are on a walking tour of England and are attacked by a Werewolf. One is killed, the other is mauled. The Werewolf is killed, but reverts to it's human form, and the townspeople are able to deny it's existence. The surviving student begins to have nightmares of hunting on 4 feet at first, but then finds that his friend and other recent victims appear to him, demanding that he find a way to die to release them from their curse, being trapped between worlds because of their unnatural death. A near definitive werewolf movie that's bloody, scary, funny, satirical, intelligent, sexy, charming and ultimately sad. With a soundtrack that's perfectly placed, and composer Elmer Bernstein perfectly placing the music. Grab the popcorn and hang on folks.

(American Werewolf in London)
『Good old movie. Grandchildren, seeing it for the first time, were not nearly as frighten as I was the first time I saw it.』

(Best werewolf movie ever? I think so)
『As much as An American Werewolf in London deserves an essay of praise, I would merely be preaching to the choir if I did so at this point. Not only the best werewolf movie ever made, but it ranks up there as one of the best horror films ever made.

Two American fellas traveling through rural England experience an unexpected disruption in their trip when they are attacked by a genuine werewolf. David, is the young man who survives the ordeal, but not without a price. He is now a werewolf himself, and worse yet, his victims are doomed to wander the earth in limbo until David is killed, or takes his own life.

Every aspect of An american Werewolf in London is top notch, and it is among the most revered titles in the horror/comedy genre. An essential film for any movie fanatic, if you've never seen it, it is recommended you do so.』

『This is one of my favorite horror movies. There is some funny parts to the movie.』

(AAOOOH Werewolves of London!!)
『I saw this movie in the theaters back in 1981 and was so happy to see Rick Baker win the first Oscar for best special effects make up! That whole transformation scene is classic and very impressive. It is both amusing and painful to watch. The wolf in this movie makes me feel real terror and fear. There are several scenes in London that make me grimace and tense up, even though I have seen this before. I bought this on BluRay disc because this movie needs to be seen in HD. I have always been a fan of all types of horror. There are very few movies that can mix humor with horror well for me to recommend but London does. It will always be on my list of best horror films. This is a much, much, much, better film than An American Werewolf in Paris. Get this movie either on DVD or BluRay, you won't be sorry!! ( I just have to ask myself, the ones that gave it one or two stars, are they even old enough to appreciate this movie?)』
『Re-discover one of the most gripping horror films of all-time with the cult classic An American Werewolf in London. Blending the macabre with a wicked sense of humor, director John Landis (National Lampoon’s Animal House) delivers a contemporary take on the classic werewolf tale in this story of two American tourists who, while traveling in London, find their lives changed forever when a viscious wolf attacks them during a full moon. Featuring groundbreaking, Academy Award-winning make-up by RickBaker (The Wolfman), this digitally remastered Full Moon Edition also includes the new feature-length documentary Beware the Moon.』
『Remember back in the early 1980s when special-effects makeup artists were tripping over themselves to create the next big effect? The Howlingboasted a fantastic werewolf transformation scene courtesy of makeup wizard Rob Bottin. Then along came Bottin's mentor, Rick Baker, with his own spectacular effects in this popular horror comedy directed by John Landis. An American Werewolf in Londonis more of a makeup showcase than a truly satisfying movie, but the film is effectively moody when David Naughton discovers that a wolf attack has turned him into a bloodthirsty lycanthrope. Jenny Agutter plays his love interest (watch out, he bites!), and who can forget Griffin Dunne as Naughton's best friend, an undead corpse who progressively rots away as the plot unfolds? All things considered, it's easy to see whyAn American Werewolf in Londonbecame a modern horror favorite.--Jeff Shannon
