(A wonderful showcase of Polanski's skills as a director AND actor!) 『I absolutely love Roman Polanski's movies, but this has to be one of the best. I think the reason is that Polanski also stars, and his turn as the naive, soft-spoken, innocent Alfred is what makes this film a true classic. Almost all of the funny moments happen as a result of something he does or says or something that is done to him, and if nothing else, his expressions are adorably fun to watch.
Aside from Polanski, this is one of the few accounts of his future-wife Sharon Tate's beauty&skill. The chemistry between the two is intoxicating, especially when you see how confident Tate is around Polanski and how shy and introverted Polanski seems around here. The end scene where the two are riding in the carriage (before she...well, you know) is so bittersweet and touching.
Okay, aside from Polanski&Tate, there are other wonderful aspects of this film. The score is eerie and perfectly suited to this masterpiece, and the scenery is intoxicating (just take a look at the snow, not to mention the adorable snowman that Alfred builds for Sarah).
The funniest scenes definitely take place once the Professor&Alfred get to the castle. I love when Alfred is to scared to sleep in his own room, and he tries to get in bed with the professor.
The ball was a perfect climax to the film, especially when the vampires realize that the only relection in the mirrors is of Alfred&the Professor. The last scenes are horribly nerve-wracking and tense, with a perfect finish. Leave it to Polanski to end this film the exact opposite of what you'd expect. A happy ending? Not in a Polanski movie.

(A slow ride through a cold winter night...) 『I. Some note how the movie was meant to be a parody on vampire movies (more specifically the Hammer Horror series). If it is, it possesses too high of a quality to be a simple parody. Even though the movie tries its hand at slapstick, it's not what lingers. What stays in mind is the acting, the scenery, the direction and the atmosphere. Neither funny nor scary, the movie is an even mix of haunting ambients and warm settings. The overall mood is strikingly good, the camera work is stunning and just the feeling of watching something old gives you pleasure. Polanski is a mastermind, obviously, and he uses all the advantages of his time to push boundaries and manages to impress with work that's powerful all the way through. Everything from lightening to music is masterfully executed. The movie takes some time to take off, but when it finally does, you don't mind spending as much time as you did watching it.
II. The acting makes for a very convincing movie. Polanski is great as a mousy apprentice in love with a maiden played by the especially enthralling Sharon Tate, who looks good in bath, as we've witnessed in the film, twice. Ferdy Mayne, with his piercing German accent, does a good job playing Count von Krolock. The characters are very dissimilar to each other: Tate is graceful, playful and sexy, Polanski is frightened and quiet, MacGowran is brave, cooky and determined, Quarrier is unpleasantly spooky and Mayne makes his presence felt in every scene, which is always welcome for the main villain.
III. The movie manages to thrill, mesmerize, stun, daunt and please, making it a magical experience for the viewer. The only problem is that an average viewer wants a genre classification that will, I suppose, set the right mood and awake the right emotions. Considering how average viewers go, this should be a disappointing piece of work. The trick is to forget about what it's supposed to be -- as well as what you want it to be -- and enjoy it for what it is.
Maybe there's a harpsichord loving person inside of you who will get enchanted by snowy landscapes, rich sets and playful dialogue, as well as a sense of quirkiness that bubbles around the surface. The movie may surprise you, if you give it a proper chance. One thing is certain: it won't leave you indifferent.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Fun to watch as a slasher film, but fails as a Nightmare and Friday film) 『I really have no idea what the point of this movie was, exactly, but I certainly did not enjoy the premise of the ordeal. It's kind of fun to watch Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees duke it out, but overall it won't leave you feeling very entertained; or that your time had been well spent.
The plot opens with the best scene in the entire film, which is the prologue of Robert Englund as the pre-supernatural Freddy and his origin. From here, the film quickly declines. Freddy , trapped in Hell because of the fact that the people of Springwood have erased every trace of his existence (thus children don't know him, and as such can't fear him, so thus Freddy can't enter their dreams....I don't recall Nancy knowing who Freddy was until her mother explained in the first Nightmare film, but OK). He cons Jason to rise from the dead and kill the (as usual, overly horny teens) kids of Elm Street, thus causing his name to spread once more.
This results in Freddy losing it when he realizes Jason's gone on a murderous rage (duh) and is preventing Freddy from savoring the time and elaboration he likes to take when killing teens. Annnnd, this is where the "plot" of Freddy and Jason actually fighting comes in. The fight in Freddy's boiler room dreamscape is very nice, and the Crystal Lake fight at the end is also entertaining up until the construction site portion onwards. Problem is that between these fights, there really is zero substance.
A usual problem with slashers is horribly present here: horrible, ditzy, female actresses. They're good on the eyes, but make the brain cringe. The blonde girl who's the lead is "a virgin" (PAH! I bet...) and there is a scene in dreamland where Freddy creeps his claws up her leg in what would have been horrifying...if her character was at all believable, or something the audience could relate to. As far as the audience is concerned, Freddy may as well be threatening to defile a trash can.
The problem is mainly that Jason kills the most people yet he is presented as some sort of anti-hero while Freddy is the pure villain. What is with these crossover monster features and making one of the antagonists winding up as some sort of hero figure? Plus, Freddy Krueger is a far more interesting character than Jason Vorhees who is a boring zombie who stumbles through everything like Frankenstein on steroids while Freddy has menace in the fact that...he just really likes killing! Robert Englund (As usual) portrays Freddy Krueger as someone who savors each and every life he takes while Jason is mindlessly hacking his way through each scene.
I'm no blood fiend, but the fact that Freddy only kills ONE TEEN in this entire film through dreamland (and it isn't even good by Freddy standards) while Jason not only kills the most "good guys" but is also portrayed as the hero of this clash. Anyone else see some messed up logic here? Oh well, Robert Englund, as expected, delivers entertaining quotes and sequences as Freddy, but aside from this the movie has no merit. 』

(Better than I thought) 『I thought this was just a ploy to make money off both these popular properties (Nightmare on Elm street&Friday the 13th), but I watched it and was unexpectedly surprised. I was able to watch the movie in its entirety atleast 3 times. The story was not the best, but the movie did its job by keeping me entertained. There are other flix in this genre that I've watched only once and never decided to watch again. That's one reason why I gave it 4 stars.

1st off the back of the box says 5.1 EX audio (Not on there)only TruHD and I must say for a suppose upgrade loseless audio it seemed weaker the the standard DVD, which does have 5.1EX and 5.1 DTS,unlike the bluray edtion. The picture is not bad,but is not a 1080P HD quality transfer. There is noticeable grain and scartches and imperfections across the screen. Since this movie was shot 2000 it looks good, but I was expecting a sharper image on Bluray. Newline usually spares no expense when it comes to issuing content on DVD/Bluray, but this time interms of audio and video, I guess the price represents the amount that went into the transfer.
I know the bonus features are very good, very extensive, but do not buy this edition. Just keep your DVD and play it in your Bluray player for the 10% upgrade and you will just fine.
I do not know about you, but I am tired of buying older movies 1970',80's and some 1990's on bluray, for the most part there is no difference in quality,alot of the old transfers are used and no expense goes into the remastering of the picutre or sound. It seems like (Besides a small amount of tittles that get a A++ trans/remaster)Bluray is meant for newer movies from 2000 and above to enjoy real HD piture and loseless audio. For a better expierance than the theater on your home theater. (Best Comedy for Years) 『This show is nothing short of amazing. The people who created this are clever writers, appealing to an intelligent viewer by delivering what those who don't quite understand it think is absurd and unfunny. The truth is, it's anything but.
This is an intentionally poorly animated, comedically fast-paced glimpse into the twisted, surreal world of Xavier, an aesthetically (not to mention morally) objectionable wanderer (and wonderer), with delusions of philosophical grandeur. As Xavier lands himself in situations born almost completely out of his twisted incompetence and inability to reason, he attempts to further understand himself and nearly always fails.
Comedically, this is a real gem. The attention to detail elevates this from a 'weird cartoon' to something that has very obviously had a lot of thought and care invested in it. The show has many layers, from odd almost dream-like logic to the beyond-impressive word play, to the conveyance of some very intelligent ideas and concepts (which unlike South Park, for instance, it doesn't always turn into the main focus of the show). It's a show that can move dramatically in completely unexpected directions, often from just a turn of phrase or an internal after-thought. In that way it's very similar to Wonder Showzen (from the same creators, PFFR), but Xavier takes the surreal humour to a whole different level! I'm loathe to say "if you don't like it, you don't get it" about comedy shows because it's invariably a cop out from a proper justification, but some of the criticism this show tends to get is as a result of aspects (deliberately dubious animation, consciously offensive stereotypes, etc.) that the creators intentionally set out to exaggerate, pervert, satirise and mock. There's often a very tangible commentary on social responsibility to the sub-text and in amongst it's absurdity lies some occasionally deep stuff, apparently lost on it's critics.
In summary, I haven't been this excited about a comedy show since, well, Wonder Showzen.』

The disc full of extras is worth more than the price of the movie alone, and watching the actors reminisce and hearing some of the stories like the fact that Liam Neeson was passed over to play Dracula is just awesome! And not to mention how well the DVD was remastered. I remember watching this on HBO a countless number of times, but it never looked this good! (Absolutely worthless) 『I got this movie for my youngest son and I to watch. We like the old Universal monster movies and I thought this would be a nice, modern version for us to enjoy (and finally a monster movie in color!). Boy was I wrong. There are scant few seconds of neat moments when all the major monsters are together, but those moments are surrounded by bad 80's filmmaking at its worst.
This film resides in that 80's neverland world of rude kids, clueless adults, and toilet humor. Like the rest of the world I never saw Monster Squad when it was released but I do remember the ads they played for it with that line about Wolfman's "nards." While lame, I figured they wanted to stay away from actual bad language; wrong again. The only curse word not found in this movie is the dreaded F- - - word. This flick is wall-to-wall filthy language, so right off my son couldn't watch it.
It's not scary at all, although whenever a female vampire dies it's usually bloody. Not one of the kids has any charisma whatsoever and I found myself not caring if they survived or not; kind of like the "adult" horror film teenagers. And why does the amulet spawned vortex that is supposed to eradicate evil suck up anything in its path, even beagles??
People can't claim nostalgia for liking this mess, because as I said, no one saw this thing. This was a great idea but a horrible execution. Too vulgar to be a kids movie, too juvenile for "most" adults, the Monster Squad is absolutely worthless. 』 『Count Dracula adjourns to Earth, accompanied by Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Gillman. (Progressively sillier) 『After season 3 The X-Files seemed to go down hill in story quality, but especially after season 5 the silliness of the characters and the stories has increased dramatically. Despite this criticism, this is still a great series and a good season 6. Duchovney and Anderson continue to deliver superb acting, and there are many must-see episodes.』
(Six of the best) 『Season six packs an emotional wallop unlike any other series! Especially true of "Milagro", "Field Trip", "Monday" and the myth-arc "finale", "Two Fathers"/"One Son". Also, Dreamland is a treat; Michael McKean&David Duchovny are vaudevillians par excellence.
The blend of humour&horror can be a little choppy, but this season has a weight lacking in most of the earlier seasons. One bone to pick: Scully's truculent scepticism started to grate, although, thankfully, Mulder gave her pause to rethink this in "Field Trip".
The shift in locale to the Western U.S. also added to the show's visual and dramatic scope: episodes such as "Drive", "Dreamland" and "Arcadia" were well suited to, and enhanced by, the arid settings.
(I can understand why this season is considered to be the beginning of the end of X-Files) 『While I still enjoyed this season, there are some reasons why it wasn't as good as previous seasons:
1. Moving to California definitely changed the look of the series. It suddenly became so sunny and clear, the dimness and spookiness of Canada was gone! And it took a while to find good lighting for Scully, for most of the season she looked old.
2. Too many comedy episodes in the beginning of the season. At some point I started thinking it became some kind of parody of X-Files, not actual X-Files.
3. The main mytharc was totally finished off, and very quickly. I was very sad to see this story line go. So many years to build it and then 2 episodes and it's all over. Where do X-Files go from here?
4. Finally, I got really tired of all the flirting between Scully and Mulder. Like many, I wanted them to be together, but I didn't want to be teased. Either go all the way, or let their relationship be the way it used to before, I say.
That being said, it was still great season, just a little thin on really great episodes. 』
(first BAD season) 『A new fan of these series I fell in love with the show becoming addicted to it, talking about nothing but The X Files, etc. The movies was great. However the return to the show was very disappointing. I really enjoyed that once in a while there would be a "comedy" X Files episode to have some variety, but on this season they over did it. Most of this season is comedy, and some of them very cheesy comedy. Only a few episodes are serious like the good old classic X Files episodes, and even some of those "serious" episodes have some moments of cheesy comedy that turn you off.
The 2nd disappointment is something on the "Mulder/Scully" subject (don't wanna go in detail to give any spoilers). Something unexpected is happening with their partnership in the movie. It doesn't get solved in the movie which made me think it was a very smart way to make people watch this season hoping this matter was solved or at least talked about. Wrong, I'm still waiting for that conversation between the 2 of them. This season makes it seem like that moment of the movie (my fav part) never even happened.
As most fans I used to think "wouldn't it be nice if they did the show again?", but it is seasons like this that make you go "nah, just leave it the way it is".

Well go back and re-visit this classic piece of 80's horror because if you are like me, you've forgotten just how fun this film can be!
You have Keifer Sutherland chewing up scenery (and minor characters)as the leader of a motorcycle ridin' vampire clan decked out in a wardrobe straight out of MTV's The Headbangers Ball! You have the two Coreys at the top of their career, you have Jason Patric when it looked like he was going to have a career (hello "Speed 2: Cruise Control"!!???) and Jami Gertz looks smokin' hot....and oh yea, the guy that's not Keanu Reeves from "Bill&Ted's Excellent Adventure" is here too!
What's the basic story? Family moves to sunny California coastal town, with a kick ass amusement park on a pier, plenty of wierdos and a town which also happens to be known as the "murder capital of the world"! Unfortunately the oldest boy draws the attention of the local vampire clan, and before long he's not casting a solid reflection any more. It's up to his geeky little brother and two teenage Van Helsings named "The Frog Brothers" to stop the vampires before they destroy the family. Corny? You betcha! Awesome? Damn straight!
And if things couldn't get better, just wait until you hear the soundtrack!! Okay, the oily body-builder guy playing the sax might be a tad too much, but it's the 80's what do you expect? So what more is there to say, if you were a child of the 80's..you must OWN this film. If you think Sexy vampires were invented when "Twilight" came out...think again. This is a great, fun film that has stood the test of time. 』
(A kitschy classic!) 『This movie doesn't take the vampire-film theme too seriously...and that's what makes it so great! There is plenty of humor thrown in to balance out the "horror" aspects. The cast is superb: the 2 Coreys do a perfect job in this film of bouncing one-liners off of one another. Kiefer Sutherland is a convincing bad guy, and Jason Patric is great as the protagonist caught between human and vampire. One of the vampires in the bad guys' clan - Billy Wirth, the one with the long dark hair - was a semi-finalist on Season 1 of American Gladiator, for those of you who like useless trivia :) You also get Alex Winter before Bill&Ted fame (albeit with a horribly fake weave in this one). The only low point is the female lead, who plays the character of Starr...I forget her name, she is so unremarkable, she "acts" as though she is reading right off of a Teleprompter, and has some serious overacting on display. But overall, this movie has everything. I've watched this movie so many times over the years, and it never loses its charm for me. This isn't what I'd call a hardcore horror film - there are too many comedy aspects - but it's definitely enjoyable and a lot of fun!』
(My favorite vampire move ever.) 『The Lost Boys is a classic. Long before Kiefer Sutherland was torturing terrorists he was fanging teens on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The soundtrack is haunting and unforgettable and the script is good enough that it doesn't have to throw in too much blood and gore to keep the viewer on the edge of the seat.
FYI: The 'R' rating assigned to Lost Boys is a bit harsh. A PG-13 would be more accurate. I showed it to my pre-teen daughters with no regrets.』

(Great, True Horror Film) 『The Film: Jaws, as most of us know is the story of a lonely shark looking for love ... or it is the story of a vicious eating machine with a penchant for the dramatic. Hailed as an all time classic by most, this is the film that put Spielberg on the map. The emotion from the characters jumps out and grabs you. You can feel the fear and the sorrow in everyone. Not much can be written about it here that has not already been seen elsewhere. I would qualify this as a horror movie. The dramatic tension and the build up creates a real presence of fear and horror, that today's special effects driven splatter fests cannot even dream of achieving About the DVD: While this is only a one disc edition, they still had room to include a making of featurette, deleted scenes, outtakes, trailers and a trivia game and a screen saver. A fine assortment of toys that would round out any film, but accent this one perfectly. T 』
(Still a classic.) 『I watched this film for the first time when I was 8 years old and that was in 1979. It was playing in a holiday resort cinema at the time. A real run of the mill movie by the time I seen it, so even though I was so young and on my own, it was ok to go in and watch it. I ran out of the cinema and back to our apartment when I seen the head scene. I had nightmares for weeks afterwards. Since then I've seen this classic countless times and I enjoy it every time. There's just something about the atmosphere in the film that I find infectious. The casting is the most natural I've seen. Each of the main characters is so believable, different and interesting in their own way. A tired middle aged cop from New York, a young rich scientist in love with his work, and an old weather beaten shark fisherman with scars to remember most of his encounters. I've yet to see interaction like this between 3 actors. The love\hate atmosphere on the boat is just gripping. I bought the DVD version for my kids. I'd rather the original because in the DVD version in the scene before they sing; `Show me the way to go home', the whale sound effect is smudged out and replaced with a more 90's politically correct whale sound. I thought the original effect added much more to the atmosphere of the film. But it is cool to see it digitally touched up. And what about the Score? Is there a more memorable score for a movie? Space Odyssey 2001 springs to mind but even that masterpiece borrows from the classical world. That music was not written for that film. I loved the book too, but I have to say the movie is better. I know it's strange but it's true. I love movies but I've yet to get the same level of enjoyment from a movie as I did from Jaws. And that includes E.T., Close Encounters, Star Wars and so on. Jaws is a marvel. I'm glad I was so young when I first seen it because it probably wouldn't have had the affect on me that it had had I watched it at an older age. Ok in hindsight and if you like nitpicking you can find a few things wrong with this film. Like the missing chair after the scene were they caught something with the fishing rod, or it wasn't really summer when the filmed it. Big deal! Movies like this are about imagination aren't they? These inconsistencies had to be pointed out to me before I could see them for myself. In my opinion a good movie with no directing or editing errors is not what makes it good movie. Jaws is King and very underrated in my opinion.』
