("Trust No One...") 『The dying words of Deep Throat to Mulder and Scully at the end of Season 1. Season 2 picks up with the X-Files closed, Mulder and Scully are reassigned to different parts of FBI but that doesn't stop them from still poking their noses where they don't belong. With Deep Throat dead a new voice from the shadows emerges to guide Agent Mulder, Mr. X. Unlike Deep Throat Mr. X is utterly ruthless and has no problem sacrificing Mulder if he gets in the way of his own agenda. Assistant Director Skinner comes into his role more as he must decide to either help Mulder and Scully or continue to be a puppet for those above him. And the Smoking Man steps a little closer into the light to reveal more of his sinister plans and methods. The plot thickens and the conspiracy gets more complicated than thought possible.
Season 2 is one of the best because of its balance of mythology and Monster of the Week episodes. There are plenty stand alone episodes to start novices off on. Season 2 also ventured out from SciFi into plain horror with such episodes as Die Hand Die Verletzt, Fresh Bones and The Calusari which deals with the occult and demonic.
Season 2 will keep newcomers happy without a doubt and bring back good memories for X-Philes.
The Truth Is Out There... And So Are Lies...』
(Hooray X-Files) 『Okay, so I haven't actually seen the entire season yet, but I recently discovered this series (I never paid much attention to it when it was on tv) and I loved the first season. I just thought I'd write a review to let people know that it seems the missing episode problem has been resolved, at least if you buy it from Amazon. I just got the set today and popped in disc 6 to be sure it included the finale episode and it does. From looking at the disc it looks a bit different in format from the first 5 discs so I bet Amazon has replaced the discs with the missing episode with new ones. As long as you buy it directly from Amazon I doubt it will be missing the episode. I just wanted to let people know so they aren't afraid to buy this awesome series!!』
(Buy it!) 『25 episodes of one of the best TV series ever. It had plenty of the on going plot episodes where you first start seeing what the motives are for the cover ups. I personally love the random episodes that have nothing to do with the main plot of the series just a little bit more and this season has a plenty them too, so It was perfic for me. I would of gladly paid full retail price(I bought it used for like $14 from an amazon seller)! If you find a deal, you have to BUY IT!』
(Missing episode woes? Here's the solution...) 『Yeah, yeah, great show. You should already know that...
For those of you upset about the accidental omission of the season finale "Anasazi" from the slim set version of X-Files: The "Complete" Second Season, head to following address, fill in the information and a Fox representative will e-mail you back requesting your mailing information and send you the missing disc at no additional charge.

Hope this helps.』 『In this second season box set, Mulder and Scully get glimpses of the global conspiracy as they investigate UFO's, alien abductions, genetic engineering, and ominous government agents.』 『While the first season ofThe X-Filesintroduced us to Scully and Mulder, the second season finds the show confidently hitting its stride. Building on its earlier success, the show evolves, and in these 25 episodes, a glimpse is shown of a longer-running story line (which will continue through subsequent seasons) that is woven into the usual stand-alone episodes of the paranormal. These so-called mythology episodes hint at a global conspiracy involving sinister government agents, UFOs, alien abductions, genetic engineering, the ever-lurking Cigarette Smoking Man, and Fox Mulder's father. Season 2 fleshes out Mulder's family history, including the childhood abduction of his sister Samantha, an event that would shape him for life. Actress Gillian Anderson (Scully) became unexpectedly pregnant during season 2, but series creator Chris Carter managed to dance nimbly around her absence and even integrate it into the show. As in season 1, Mulder and Scully are surrounded by a strong supporting cast, which adds a suspicious new agent named Alex Krycek, an informant named X, and a seemingly indestructible alien bounty hunter.
Among the standout episodes are "The Host," "Duane Barry/Ascension," "Humbug," "Dod Kalm," "Colony/End Game," and "Anasazi." These episodes are a powerful reminder thatThe X-Files, like no other show on television, can span horror, suspense, mystery, romance, drama, and comedy, sometimes all in the same episode, and always with the production values of a major feature film.--Eugene Wei』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Dead Alive-The most disturbing and disgusting of all zombie movies.) 『Dead Alive has to be the most disturbing and disgusting of all zombie movies, of Any movie I have seen so far. Blood, guts, Lawnmowers! what was the creator(s) thinking? this flim has no plot, just plain silly. silly kiwis.』
(Tidal wave of blood, guts&wild carnage) 『This movie is completely hilarious and has more blood, guts&wild carnage than any horror/zombie movie in the history of cinema. At times I wondered if there was somebody off-camera with a garden hose spraying fake blood all over the actors. The kung-fu priest vs. the zombies bit had me laughing for days. Completely over the top and not for the squeamish.』
(I don't know how so many people gave this movie 5 stars) 『What a stupid movie!!! I didn't throw it out because i wasted money on it!!!』
(Your Mum Ate My Dog) 『The recent release of ZOMBIELAND has fans of the unique subgenre known as the "zomedy" falling all over themselves either to praise that flick or to condemn it. In either case they usually for better or worse compare it to SHAUN OF THE DEAD, the popular British flick starring Simon Pegg, and I can see that, really I can. But the comparisons have been so consistent and so exclusive of almost all other zomedies that I feel it incumbent upon myself to say, doesn't ANYBODY remember Peter Jackson's 1992 flick DEAD-ALIVE? Am I really the only person on the face of the earth (or Lunch at least) who looks back fondly on that 97 minutes of mildly loopy humor that culminates in what I am almost certain is still the most outrageously gory deneouement ever to grace any zombie flick comedy or otherwise?
The film opens on Skull island (located south of Sumatra) where an explorer has suceeded in capturing a rare Sumatran Rat Monkey and is headed for a jeep that will help take him and his rare prize back to New Zealand and the Wellington Zoo. Local natives try to stop him, warning him that the animal is not only dangerous but also sacred to them and that there is no way that monkey is leaving their island. Well, long story short, monkey leaves explorer doesn't. In the ensuing chase the guy is bitten and scratched by the beastie. His local guides cut off his arms and then his head. Roll opening credits. (You get a double dismemberment AND a decapitation before the credits? Well, the decapitation is implied.) The guides grab the caged animal and take off. Eventually it's shoved on a plane for new Zealand where we meet out hapless hero Lionel (Timothy Balme) when he drops into a grocery store to leave off the weekly order. His timing is impecable because our heroine Pacquita (Diana Penalier) has just had her future told by her grandmother, to wit: she will very soon meet the one man she will love for the rest of her life and there will be a sign. Lionel knocks over some pens. Presto, there's the sign.
Love ain't going to be easy for Lionel and Pacquita though because he's got the Queen of all bitchy, domineering mothers, and he's a spinless dweeb in the bargain. Nonetheless Pacquita tricks him into asking her out on a date to the zoo. Zoo? Uh oh. Double uh oh because Mum overhears and follows to spy on them. Here's where we get our first look at the Sumatran Rat Monkey which is rendered via good old fashioned stop motion animation. He's adorably nasty and he promptly takes a chunk out of Mum when she gets too close to his cage but he obviously didn't know who he was dealing with because she smushes him into sumatran jelly. Date over. Lionel has to take Mum home and tend to her injuries.
From here things go down hill pretty rapidly although not quite as rapidly as you might expect and definitely not as fast as most fans would hope, as I said Lionel's a bit of a milquetoast. After Mum becomes an official member of the undead, Lionel just can't bring himself to dispatch her (or the nurse practioner she chowed down on) so he decideds to keep them both in the cellar and hope no one will noice they're not around. He sedates them with tranquillizers procured from a local veterinarian who's personal history is hilariously suspect (look for the swastica under his lab coat) and tries to keep his horrible secret. Mum escapes though and gets hit by a streetcar making a funeral necessary, but Lionel's frantic about how to keep her quiet while she's supposedly "dead". It doesn't go smoothly, but Mum does get planted. She doesn't stay down long though causing Lionel's undead problems to increase, leading to more sedated undead bodies in the cellar, and an uncle who tries to blackmail him thinking he's a murderer, and then there's that Big Finale I alluded to earlier.
DEAD-ALIVE (called BRAINDEAD in New Zealand) can be found in many versions. Before I go further I must warn against the R-rated 90 American minute version. It has been heavily edited, contains little of the real gore, and makes very little sense as a result of the editing. The unrated 97 minute American version is more watchable but I'm told still suffers greatly when compared to the original 107 minute version that the rest of the world enjoys under it's original title. There are also versions out at 100 and 103 minutes. Peter Jackson himself has been quoted as saying that he prefers the 97 minute version because it gave him more time to polish the film.
Jackson had a 3 million dollar budget here and it was his biggest to that date. Most of it was spent on special effects of course and if there is a single moment here of CGI I certainly can't spot it. Everything seems to be done old school using puppetry, make up, prosthetics, and stop motion animation and fans of old school effects should be euphoric. I know I was. There are undead deaths by all sorts of amusing means--one zombie has her head smashed into a light bulb and for the next 5 minutes or so she just hangs there impaled on the wall with light shooting out of her entire body like some kind of grotesque nightlight. The zombies themselves may take a licking but they keep on ticking! These guys are really hard to discourage; cut 'em off at the waist and both halves keep coming after you., cut off their arms and body and arms alike have one goal in mind (?), eviscerate them and it's RE-ANIMATOR time! I defy any gore hound to see this flick and not come away totally satisfied by the sheer amount of carnage Jackson inflicts upon his audience. And we're not even talking about the imaginative, creative, and downright silly methods that are employed. I love it when film makers show me something I haven't see before or carry it to an extreme that I would never have thought possible and Jackson won my heart with this flick. Whether or not the more subtle humor stacks up to SHAUN or not is a matter of personal preference I suppose, but for me it's close to a tie. Some of the characters in Kiwi flix can be priceless and a lot of the humor is character drawn. Yes Father McGruder I'm talking about you. I loved him in the graveyard but afterward he gets all hinky and kinky. Believe me folks, this movie will NEVER show on TV.
If you call yourself a horror fan and have not seen this flick then you are depriving yourself of a unique experience--this is a must see. Oh a few last things. Watch for the late Forry Ackerman as a camera toting tourist snapping a photo of Mum getting bitten by the rat monkey at the zoo. And the next time you watch Jackson's KING KONG look for the cage labled SUMATRAN RAT MONKEY in the hold of the ship. You see it the first time Adrian Brody goes down there. Jackson paying homage to himself.

(open your mind to the real gore zone.) 『I took my time reading the 1 star reviews just to know what leads people to think that this movie is not worthy of a 5 stars rate.If one of those people are reading this review (and I respect different opinions)let me expose my point of view widely, you need to be open-mind to understand that first was a different time for Peter Jackson from Lord of the Rings or King Kong era and second you must be a real horror fan to figure out that it goes beyond than simply gore and entertainment,(which is actually like that)is the Peter Jackson's creative and imagination(screenplay). And by the way it's still the goriest horror movie ever.』 『On a quiet street in a small town pure evil has come to stay. An innocent young man forced to care for his domineering mother finds the task a whole lot more demanding after shes bitten by the cursed sumatran rat-monkey. Studio: Lions Gate Home Ent. Release Date: 08/16/2005 Starring: Timothy Balme Diana Penaliver Run time: 85 minutes Rating: R Director: Peter Jackson』 『If you're not a connoisseur of graphic horror and gruesome gore, you'd better steer clear of this wicked 1992 horror-comedy from the demented mind and delirious camera of New Zealand-born writer-director Peter Jackson. However, if nonstop mayhem and extreme violence are your idea of great entertainment, you're sure to appreciate Jackson's gleefully inventive approach to a story that can judiciously be described as sick, twisted, and totally outrageous. The movie's central character is a poor schmuck named Lionel who's practically enslaved to his domineering mother. But when ol' Mum gets bitten by a rare and poisonous rat monkey from Skull Island and is turned into a flesh-eating zombie, Lionel has the unfortunate task of keeping Mama happy while fending off all the other zombies that result from her voracious feeding frenzies. If you've read this far, you'll either be crying out for censorship or eagerly awaiting your first viewing (or second, or third...) of this wildly clever and audaciously uninhibited movie. And while director Jackson would later achieve critical success with his fact-based dramaHeavenly Creatures, his talent is readily evident in this earlier effort. If you find this kind of thing even remotely appealing, considerDead Alivea must-see movie.--Jeff Shannon』 『Peter Jackson proves that if gory is funny, then excessive gory is downright hysterical. As our hapless hero wades through an ankle-deep puddle of blood and entrails, brandishing a lawnmower like a portable Cuisinart at the climax of this zombie-fest, you'll either be screaming with laughter or fleeing in disgust. Timothy Balme stars as the shy mama's boy Lionel, whose controlling shrew of a mother (Elizabeth Moody) starts rotting away, literally, with a vague supernatural disease. Mother dies but refuses to stay down, rising as a flesh-eating zombie infecting everyone she bites. Lionel tries to hide her in the basement, but the victims keep piling up and finally break out when Lionel's blackmailing uncle (a grotesque, leering Ian Watkin) throws a party in the house. It's snack time as the guests become undead hors d'oeuvres and rise again as hungry soldiers of the new zombie army marching on Lionel and his girl Pacquita (the lovely Diana Penalver). New Zealand goremeister Jackson pulls out all stops in this truly outrageous sanguinary comedy, from gross-out gags of oozing puss and rotting body parts at a formal dinner to slapstick antics as Lionel tries to keep his flesh-hungry mother sedated during the funeral to the final Freudian showdown between a now-monstrous mother and the newly liberated Lionel. If you like your horror with a sense of humor or your comedy with gristle, then wade through this taboo-busting bucket of blood.--Sean Axmaker』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Blu-Ray vs. DVD: Blu-Ray mostly wins) 『I love THE SHINING with a passion usually reserved for movies like THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW; I bought the Stanley Kubrick boxed set in 2001 and watch it regularly. I've turned down other Blu-ray editions of Kubrick films (EYES WIDE SHUT and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE) because I didn't think they were up to snuff, but I bought this because it managed to win me over.
THE SHINING is a GLORIOUS TRANSFER: the colors and textures are more vibrant and powerful than I have ever seen and seeing all those minor backgrounds details big enough to read easily are a real treat. The picture is crisp, sharp, clear, and doggone if the movie doesn't look as new as the day it was made. Kubrick movies are always a bit skimpy on the extras (Kubrick died before DVD took off and didn't leave many leftovers for the medium anyways), but the "making of" documentary with commentary also made the crossover, as well as a few new featurettes that aren't that amazing, but do offer some cool new tidbits; my favorite is the one on production design with Kubrick staffers and Garret Brown, where we get to see diagrams and schematics of the set.
My one gripe comes from the aspect ratio, which is a never-ending argument with Kubrick movies. The old DVDs maintained a full-frame aspect ratio while the Blu-ray releases favor the 1.85:1 ratio enhanced to fit the 16:9 screen. As the diagram on the special features reveals, Kubrick preferred the full-frame 1.33:1 aspect ratio, but always shot to preserve the 1.85:1 for theatrical exhibition. The problem is, Kubrick's compositions were always strongest from top-to-bottom, not side-to-side, so the widescreen aspect ratio trims off the headroom that was beautifully visible on the old DVD set. The Blu-ray is presented in 1.85:1 enhanced for 16:9 so it fills the screen; yes you see more image on the sides than you did on DVD, but the shots don't stand out as much because of the missing headroom.
So for this reason alone, I trim off one star. Otherwise, I love this Blu-ray and heavily recommend it.』
(Very pleased) 『Another cult classic. Love the DVD. Extremely fast shipping. Great job Amazon. You are a great source of finding DVD that I enjoy.』
(There's Johnny! Kubrick Thriller!) 『Jack Nicholson plays Jack, who just got a job at the Overhill Hotel and moves in with his wife and young son. The boy Danny has special abilities: a secret friend inhabiting him (which is not satisfactorily explained) and the ability to hear others' thoughts (the Shining). But buildings can have shinings too. Homicidal rages from a formerly easy going author (typing nonstop pages of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" is hilarious) taking orders from the ghosts and supernatural beings that in habit the hotel.
Stanley Kubrick (2001 - A Space Odyssey (Two-Disc Special Edition)) is known for his almost maniacal style in doing take after take. Shelly Duvall had the most number of takes ever, I read.
The movie does have its chilling, insane moments. I enjoyed the boy's horror but was not sure if it was "Tony" his imaginary friend talking or Danny himself. The ending is thoughtful but a bit of a let-down (the 1921 photo).
Overall, not a shabby movie. But really, how did Jack get out of that locked refrigerator? Hmm?
The "making of" was shot by Vivian Kubrick, and you really get into the heads of the cast and what they were thinking as shooting progressed.

』
(Despite Flaws This Is One Good Scary Flick) 『Shelley Duvall is just plain weird, and Stanley Kubrick morphed Stephen King's bestselling novel into something almost unrecognizable, yet THE SHINING stands the test of time and continues to scare generation after generation of wide-eyed viewers because the one-card-shy-of-a-full-deck Jack Torrance is so aptly and believably played by a demonically grinning Jack Nicholson. No other part has been so tailor-made for Creepy Jack, who fits into the lead role like wiggling fingers into a well-worn glove.
Kubrick supplies the heady visuals: a luxury mountain resort, about to be abandoned for the long winter, with its whispers of the past, labyrinth of hallways, and dark shadows. Duvall and Nicholson supply the tension: a struggling writer about to go off the deep end with his wife and small son living as caretakers at the resort, while the wife watches helplessly as her spouse unravels. The hotel plays its part helping Jack Torrance descend into maniacal madness, giving Nicholson the vehicle he needs to grin and grimace and scream and shout as he terrorizes his family with flesh-crawling creepiness.
Sure, there are plenty of flaws; the film becomes silly and disjointed as it rushes towards its climax, some of the visual gimmicks (gallons of what looks like cranberry sauce spilling out of the elevators) are lame, and Duvall was definitely a weak link, but it doesn't take away from THE SHINING's ability to terrify. I don't know what it's like firsthand to watch a man become violently evil, but Jack Nicholson in this movie gives me a pretty good idea. --D. Mikels, Author, The Reckoning

(Little pigs, little pigs. A slight variation of Chip Miller's "PIGS! PIGS!", October 28, 2009) 『Of course Sid the Elf is very familiar with The Shining. But we hadn't reviewed it until now. Why? Good question. For October Horrorgreatsuccess Sid festival it was a no-brainer. This is one is in the pantheon of horror films. Also, Scatman Crothers has been a Sid favorite since 96 and the crazy likely homeless nutjob at Yankee Stadium. Sid has seen bits and pieces(that's what it's like...u know where it's going) of this film many times over the years but this viewing was a little different. This time Sid was watching with his carefully crafted critical eye gained with thousands of B's on our odometer.
Knowing full well what happens in the movie, after not seeing it for at least a few years, Sid found Jack really interesting. Even in the begining of the flick you can see that he's a little psycho. And while we're here, could anyone else have played Jack Torrence? Sid says absolutely not. He plays a nutbar to perfection. And nobody else could have pulled off being a maniac and hilarious at the same time(exhibit A: the "Have you lost your f**kin' mind scene). Now, The Shining is in no way shape or form B, but it is a horror classic so it's in play for Sid. This is especially true when you account for the Chuck factor and the awesome visuals accompanied by cool/creepy music.
The Shining was an overall awesome experiance. It is obviously a must for any horror fan who hasn't seen it. Also, if you're a horror fan and haven't seen this movie, shame on you. If you're missing the B element in this Sid review, don't worry. There are several B's on the horizon. Can Sid interest anyone in a little Maniac Cop? As for The Shining, here's a quick rundown of the film's scariest moments:
1. The dog and the butler. Holy schnikies. 2. The little girls 3. The cranberry juice pouring out of the elevator. 4. Scatman getting it and Jacks's war cry 5. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (not the Twilight Zone it was to become) 『I purchased this first season hoping for a fun nostalgic Halloween viewing with friends, and it turned out that Rod Serling was just warming up here. The classic music was not a part of the episodes that we watched, and the (four?) episodes- out of many, it's really a lot of episodes- were all about alone-ness. After seeing these few, I wonder if Serling was in a reflective, perhaps depressed time of his life. They may have been ground-breaking at the time, but they aren't the mind twisters that I recall from late night television. Maybe season 2 is better?』
(You've just entered the Twilight Zone) 『Submitted for your approval: a classic series about fantastic tales, stretching beyond the imagination and goes beyond the years they were broadcast. A series we simply know most formally as, 'The Twilight Zone.' Though the series itself was first broadcast in 1959, I didn't officially become a TZ Visitor until about 30 years later. Originally watching these programs in syndication, I enjoyed watching these tales, which in consideration, were far better than the offerings we were given along the lines of sci-fi, horror and suspense of the Seventies and Eighties.
Without this wondrous dimension, we'd never have the existence of other anthology series. But I digress, the Twilight Zone Definitive Edition is aptly well-named, as this offering brings back the best of the series' offering.
Season One offers many of the classic tales we've made into identifiable icons for the series: The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street, Time Enough at Last, The After Hours and Walking Distance (some which have now been recently made into graphic novels).
The interesting items about these tales, they maintain a timeless appeal to us. Besides being remastered from the negative, these episodes also contain 'And now, Mr. Serling,' in which Rod provides a trailer for the next show, as well as classic adverts for other programs and ads at the time. My only discern is, it seems the episodes cannot be played continuously as with most collections. However, at the writing of this review, I suspect the later volumes bring up this option.
Nonetheless, the Definitive Edition brings back the episodes the way they were meant to be viewed, uncut and unedited, with the stories intact. Remarkably, with those just visiting, or long-time tourists, The Twilight Zone Definitive Collection is the best product for those who loved the program and desire classic tales of beyond.
There's the signpost up ahead, your next stop: The Twilight Zone Definitive Edition Season 1.』
(One of the best Sci-fi tv shows) 『This is one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. There are no flashy CGI special effects. It has something better. Something that is practically unheard of in tv today. Good, fun, and thought provoking stories. 』
(Excellent) 『I recently bought this when it was on sale for $27.99 and I can say I have been thoroughly enjoying reliving these old episodes. True you can watch them online for free, but it's much nicer to be able to pull them off the shelf and just sit back and relax. The commentaries and other rare footage are an excellent addition that add a lot to the set. Anyone who loves "The Twilight Zone" will want this set.』
(Love the Original Twilight Zone Episodes) 『Watching the original episodes is wonderful. I had forgotten how brilliant Rod Serling was and very interesting seeing actors such as Bergess Merideth, Agnes Moorehead, and many others in the early shows. Plan on ordering all the seasons episodes.』 『The complete first season of Rod Serling's classic, groundbreaking series exploring the fantastic and the frightening.』 『Submitted for your approval:The Twilight Zone's inaugural season, all 36 episodes complete with Rod Serling's original promos for the following week's episode, not seen since their original broadcast. To discuss television's greatest anthology series whose title has become pop culture shorthand for the bizarre and supernatural is to immediately become like Albert Brooks and Dan Aykroyd inTwilight Zone: The Movie; a can-you-top-this recall of famous shocks and favorite twists. Several essential episodes hail from this season, among them, "Time Enough at Last" starring Burgess Meredith as a bespectacled bookworm who is the lone survivor of an atomic blast; "The After-Hours" starring Anne Francis as a department store shopper haunted by mannequins; and the profoundly disturbing "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," in which fear and prejudice turns neighbor against neighbor (and, by the by, whose alien observers inspired Kang and Kodos onThe Simpsons).
From an unsettlingly persistent hitchhiker to a malevolent slot machine,The Twilight Zone's first season did plumb "the pit of man's fears." One forgets how moving the series could be. Three of this season's most memorable and enduring episodes are the poignant and primal "stop-the-world-I-want-to-get-off fantasies, "Walking Distance," "A Stop at Willougby" and "The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine," in which desperate characters seek refuge in a simpler past. Serling's few stabs at comedy ("Mr. Bevis," "The Mighty Casey") have not aged well, but the series finale, "A World of His Own," starring Keenan Wynn as a playwright whose fictional characters come to life, has a brilliant capper. The episodes are more deliberately paced than one might remember. Less patient younger viewers might be anxious to get to the payoffs, but once they settle into the rhythm, they will savor the literate writing and the performances by such veteran actors as Ed Wynn, Everett Sloan, and Ida Lupino, and newcomers such as Jack Klugman. The extras, including the unaired version of the pilot episode, "Where is Everybody?", audio commentaries and recollections, and a Serling college lecture, truly take this six-disc set to another dimension.--Donald Liebenson』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (What Happened?!?!?!?!) 『I have been watching all seasons on DVD and enjoying them thoroughly. Season 8, however, is not very good in comparison to the prior seasons. Very disappointing. The only thing that was worse than Season 8, was season 9. Holy canollies! Rubish... seriously. If you are dying to see either Season 8 or 9, do youself a favor and just read a synopsis of what happened on-line. If you watch these two seasons, you will never get those hours of your life back... I would, however, recommend seasons 1-7. Those were very enjoyable and quite creative. 』
(Ended up better than I thought) 『I like others here are truly devoted to the X-files. When this season started out I had a hard time with Robert Patrick, not because I don't like him but he isn't Mulder. The character's attitude was almost too much and too opposite to take in the beginning but he did come around and in fact showed why he was picked for this job and how good the writers were. I liked how the writers move in agent Reyes with Doggett and I agree if they wanted to go maybe a couple or so more years they could have done it even without the Scully character. That doesn't mean Scully wasn't great but in fact that the new actors were holding their own. After Mulder comes back and then you have Mulder, Scully, Reyes, Doggett and of course A.D. Skinner you can really see how good those actors were in this series and how well cast they were. But after watching 8 out of 9 seasons in succession one funny thing that I related to was that the characters were trying to do their jobs amidst of all the political stuff of the FBI, which was not unlike my 12 year careeer in the Navy. Even though I liked all the seasons I particularly like following the alien abduction and or colinization parts, but I also know that without the other "side stories" it may have gotten old fast.』
(Still interesting even without Mulder) 『Well, I thought for sure it would be sunk without Mulder, but it's still hanging on. The new guy is interesting in a different way, even though the chemistry is different between the two. I have to admit I do not like the new girl at all, though. I grimace whenever she comes on screen, but many of the stories are interesting and Scully, Skinner, and Scully's new partner still keep me engaged.』
(Different x files) 『I enjoyed the x files from start to finish mainly because it was smart, hip ,engrossing, and intelligent. I also finally got the eight season and am very pleased with it. I must disagree with those who say that Robert Patrick can/did fill David Duchovny's shoes and was just as compelling as Duchovny. Patrick , while a solid actor, has none of the charisma and sex appeal of Duchovny. I actually found him to be plodding at times. The x files was truly built around the relationship between the mulder and scully characters and its gradual blossoming over the run of the show. The loss of Duchovny in the eight season just heightens ones awareness of this fact. His absence from the show , however, was made less poignant because his name was mentioned frequently. Duchovny also brought a vulnerability to the fox mulder character that robert patrick simply could not match. I did enjoy " release"- not so much for the acting ( with the possible exception of cary elwes and the young actor who played the cadet) but for the beautiful, haunting, mark snow music. Just great! it was definitely adifferent season for the x files but still better than most of the shows on tv today.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The XFiles Season 7 Review) 『Product came in good time and in great condition. The price wasn't bad either. Thanks for a great transaction!』
(X-Files Season 7) 『If you've liked all the other seasons of X-Files, then of course you'll like this one. Lots of good 'to be continued' episodes, and one where "Cops" and X-files come together for some interesting one-liners! Unforgettable. There's even a crazy video game episode where Scully embraces her inner gamer girl and kicks some serious butt.』
(Great Season) 『As usual the writing and acting was superb. I particularly liked the episode in which Gillian directed and wrote. A real interesting perspective. Like others have said the series could have ended with this season yet I am glad it didn't. The neat part about the X-files is that its a series in which the characters use technology, cell phones video conferencing etc. All that was starting and was real cutting edge back then and nobody else was doing it.』
(Great season...Big Fan of the series) 『This is one of three that I need to complete the entire set. I love the series!』
(X-Files Season 7) 『I've been a fan of the show since the beginning. Season 7 is definitely my favorite season because they focus on so many of the mythology themes and also the personal lives of the characters.』 『Various』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (It Still Wears Well, and I Miss Roddy McDowell) 『 I decided to write up this review since this is the "scary season." "Fright Night" is one of those great chillers that takes every cliche about vampires and somehow makes it all work well. Chris Sarandon, a very underappreciated actor (Prince Humperdink from "The Pricess Bride" and the voice of Jack Skellington), plays vampire Gerry Dandrige to a charmingly oily, serpentine perfection without being remotely campy. Stephen Geoffreys, who plays uber-geek best friend "Evil Ed," lightens the mood of the film with sometimes horrific comedy, and Amanda Bearse ("Marcy D'Arcy" from "Married With Children) and William Ragsdale are perfectly cast as teenagers caught up in a battle of wits and wills with Dandridge. But, the icing on this cake is Roddy McDowell's homage to Peter Cushing as the embittered, washed-up B movie vampire movie star who manages to find both his dignity and his faith as he comes to the ultimate realization that vampires DO exist and he is the unlikely choice to do battle against them. McDowell's performance was so fine - alternatively funny and prosaic - it is worth watching this film to see how an older actor can still turn in stellar performances, who uses the script and props without letting them overpower his range. It is such a pity this wonderful actor has since passed on since "Peter Vincent, Vampire Killer" is arguably one of his best roles.
The movie does have scary parts, so I would be leery of showing it to kids under thirteen.
Just a really, really fantastic vampire movie and well worth watching.
RECOMMENDED.』
(Yamahama, It's Fright Night) 『When it comes to horror of any genre, Vampires don't typically sit too high on Sid's priority list. It's not that the thought of a blood craving creature isn't scary but for some reason most of these film portray vampires as being a bit fruity. However there are some exceptions to our opinion with one being the 1985 classic Fright Night. A perfect blend a scares with laughs makes this one perfect for Sid's horror Octoberfest, and even gets the vampires into the mix. This one brings back memories of being very young which always adds a lot in the way of sentimental value.
Fright Night is centered around young Charlie Brewster, his old lady, and annoying half pint buddy Evil Ed Thompson. Charlie is a horror movie junkie who spends most late nights watching some fine b(sounds a lot like someone we know). One night while watching a vampire flick he notices his new next door neighbors and they seem to be getting rid of a body and becomes very unnerved. The more he watches the neighbors the more he starts to think they're actually vampires. After telling his friends, who think he's nuts, he decides to enlist the help of his favorite washed up actor who plays a vampire killer in b movies. Seems logical. Now that he's assembled his crew of a couple high school kids and a old man it's time to take down the vampire neighbors which doesn't go so down too easy.
Fright Night turned out to be just as good as it was nearly 24 years ago, just naturally a little less scary. It's a classic for a reason. It's even one of those feel good older horror films that could become an annual watch around the Halloween season simply for the memories it brings back. We even may hand out an woody award to the squeaky voiced Evil Ed for Hey Baby of the year. All around it was just right for what we'd hoped for in the vampire department. It certainly was enjoyed now as it was many years ago and comes with strong recommendation from the old boy Sid.』
(Loved this movie.. loved, loved, loved it!!!) 『How great is it to be scared one minute, and laughing the next? So it goes with Fright Night. Campy, yes, but this movie has everything going for it. Chris Sarandon is perfectly cast as the sexy vampire. I'd prey to get bitten by him. Buy it, or rent it for that matter, and you won't be disappointed. Classic horror movie.. they just don't make them like this anymore! Go get em' Peter Vincent!!』
(His dinner is in the oven!) 『This is a classic 80's vampire movie. In this some times comical movie, we follow Charlie Brewster, a typical horror movie loving teen, and his friends with their normal teen lives. Normal, that is, until some one moves into the old house next door and decides to "fix the place up." Charlie notices some strange goings on next door, and poor Charlie, no one believes him. Not his Mom, his girlfriend Amy, or best friend, "Evil" Ed. And good luck trying to explain to the police what he sees them carrying into the cellar. And the whole time, the vampire is on his trail. This is my fav horror movie, and probably one of my favs period. I love Chris Sarandons role in this movie, he is like the ultimate vampire. He is sultry, and sensual. Every one in this movie did such a great job, I totally love this movie. I know just about every line, and never tire of it. Scary, and might have you waking from a nightmare needing some hot cocoa! But watch out, the microwave never melts the marshmallows right!』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (FUNtastic Planet!) 『I just watched this move for second time last night. I turned my roommate on to it and he also gave it two big thumbs up and a giant satisfied grin. Robert Rodriguez directed another instantaneous classic for horror, zombie and comdey fans alike. Rose McGowan made this movie the exciting, fun and touching spectacle of enjoyment that it is. Also, Bruce Willis contributes his brand of tough guy coolness. The rest of the great cast, the effects, the zombies (etc.) make this flick safun to watch all over again. I'm looking forward to watching it for the third, fourth, fifth (etc.) times as well. Another great buy from a great sale/resale venue.』
(how to melt a member) 『Excellent movie, every stripper should have a gattling gun attachment. It gets real drippy as Quentin Tarantino's member starts melting all over the place and Bruce Willis sure gets his! An interesting cast of characters make for a great viewing experience. Let's pop some popcorn and enjoy the film.』

(The weaker half) 『Not as good as Death Proof but an okay movie. Funny and strange go hand and hand in this movie. Death proof I would recommend to a lot of friends, while Planet Terror I would recommend to a select few who might be into this horror tongue and cheek genre.』 『(Horror) A fun zombie film that busts at the seams with gross special effects, amazing action, and deliciously over-the-top moments, as gun-legged Cherry Darling and one man wrecking crew El Wray try to save the world from a horde of flesh-eating zombies.』 『Loud, fast, and proudly out of control,Grindhouseis a tribute to the low-budget exploitation movies that lurked at drive-ins and inner city theaters in the '60s and early '70s. Writers/directors Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) cooked up this three-hour double feature as a way to pay homage to these films, and the end result manages to evoke the down-and-dirty vibe of the original films for an audience that may be too young to remember them. Rodriguez'sPlanet Terroris a rollicking horror/sci-fi/action piece about a plague outbreak that turns citizens into cannibalistic murderers; it's heavy on the gore and explosions but also features a terrific cast of A players (Freddy Rodriguez, Naveen Andrews, Marley Shelton) and B-movie vets (Michael Biehn, Jeff Fahey, Tom Savini) and the indelible image of Rose McGowan as a stripper whose torn-off leg is replaced by a high-powered machine gun.
If Tarantino's feature was a nod to the moody, genre-jumping exploitation of the early '70s, Rodriguez's contribution to theGrindhouseaesthetic pays tribute to the manic gorefests from Italy and the States in the early '80s. And much like the film itself, the supplemental features onTerror's double-disc Extended and Unrated presentation have a loose, action-packed and familial vibe that gives fans full access to Rodriguez's one-man-studio approach to moviemaking. The director is featured twice on audio tracks: first, on the feature commentary, which provides a fun tour through the picture's production (as well as information on the upcomingGrindhouseDVD set, which will reunite the two pictures in their theatrical format), and later on the "10-Minute Film School," a fascinating breakneck run through the numerous visual and CGI effects that produced the film's most eye-popping effects, including McGowan's leg/machine gun. Most of the extras echo Rodriguez's informative and entertaining vibe--two featurettes cover the picture's male and female cast (the former offers affectionate tributes to the exploitation vets in the company, including Biehn, Fahey, Michael Parks, and Savini), while "Casting Rebel" is an amusing discussion of how Rodriguez came to bring his own son into the movie, as well as his refusal to disclose the fate of Rebel's character. "Sickos, Bullets, and Explosions" takes a look atTerror's extensive special effects through interviews with stunt coordinator Jeff Dashnaw and members of the visual effects team, while "The Friend, The Doctor, and The Real Estate Agent" chats with three non-actors, all pals of Rodriguez, who wound up with small but significant roles in the picture. The Extended and Unrated aspect of the set is limited to a few extended scenes and extra splatter (sorry, the infamous "Missing Reel" is not recovered for this set), while Grindhouse fans bemoaning the absence of the film's hilarious faux trailers will appreciate the inclusion of Rodriguez's hilariousMachetespot, with Danny Trejo as a death-dealing, lady-loving tough guy gunning for double-crosser Fahey. The set also includes an "Audience Reaction" track: Essentially, it's a whole track of whoops and hollers that allows the viewer to "experience" the film as if they were watching it in an actual grindhouse from back in the day. Its inclusion neither adds to or detracts from enjoying this DVD, but it's wholly indicative of the level of fun Rodriguez had making the picture--and wants to share with his fans.-- Paul Gaita』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great Fun!) 『Blood Night is just a great old school horror film. While we are getting set up for the fun stuff there is plenty of funny scenes and T&A. When the fun does begin it's bloody and brutal. While I agree it is not a perfect film I was not expecting one and the film makers passion for the genre made up for any rough edges. Danielle Harris was great in it as was Bill Moseley, two names familiar to horror fans everywhere.』
(Not Bad, but certainly not outstanding) 『Personally, I thought this movie was just ok. I'm not too much of a stickler for how realistic effects look in horror movies unless they look absolutely terrible, so I dont have too much to complain about as far as that goes. However I am very picky about the pacing in horror movies, and that is one of my problems with this movie. It pulls you in right at the beginning and then spends the next 45 minutes setting up a story that ultimately drags the movie to what feels like a complete standstill before it picks back up again. Also, the "twist" near the end of the movie is one you can see coming from a mile away. I feel that they could have done a much better job misdirecting the viewer so the twist had a much better payoff when it came down to it. In the end though, my biggest problem with this movie is the "Too gory for theaters" and taglines like that. If you build your movie up to be a non-stop splatterfest and one of the goriest movies to date you damn sure better back it up, but Blood Night does not. Not to say it isnt a gory movie, but this would be a straight up "R" rating by the MPAA, not even a hard "R". All this being said however, Blood Night isn't a bad movie at all, I think I just bought into the marketing campaign and some of the "planted" reviews as another reviewer put it and ended up a little disappointed. Starring horror vet Bill Moseley(Devil's Rejects, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) and Danielle Harris(4 of the Halloween movies,) and an ample supply of T&A, Blood Night is a middle of the road horror movie trying to recapture the feel of the 80's slasher flick. While I must give credit for not being a remake, I think things could have been done a little better. Hopefully the director learns from some of the problems with this movie, I really would like to see what he could do with a bigger budget and a little more experience. I would give Blood Night 2.5 stars out of 5. Apparently you can only order this through amazon or directly from the film's official website, and as long as they are charging 15 to 20 bucks, i'd keep my money. But if you can grab a copy for 5 or 10 bucks, give it a shot.』
(Pretty good Slasher with a retro feel) 『Blood Night "The Legend Of Mary Hatchet"
This movie starts off full speed ahead with a flashback of young Mary murdering her family in their home action and gore galore.
Flash to the mental institution some years later where Mary is being held because she cant stand trial due to reasons of insanity.
Enter a fat gross mental ward worker who is taunting Mary asking her if she wants to "in his words" Goo Goo Gaa Gaa his Loli Pop.. and in my words "UM EW". She is raped and a child is conceived.
The child dies during childbirth then Mary breaks loose and kills the staff ,then after the carnage she is standing out front of the institution holding the severed head of the man who raped her she is gunned down and killed by the police.
Now flash to what they call Blood night where teenagers celebrate the night that Mary killed her family.
You have a bunch of obnoxious teens talking about their penises ,getting laid and terrorizing people with eggs, tampons dipped in red paint and other delightful gifts. The parts that are suppose to be funny actually are ..There is a lot of female flesh for the guys to drool over and that adds to the retro feel.
The middle slows down quite a bit and I got a little disinterested but it picks back up again when Graveyard Gus played by "Bill Moseley" of The Devils Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses fame shows up and takes the remaining teens to the mental institution to reunite Mary with her dead baby because he was the one who knows where the box was buried. There is a twist but I saw it coming a mile away as for the gore it's pretty old school and over the top..Danielle Harris of Halloween films fame has quite an interesting role in this movie as well.
Some of the gore is done well some of it not done so well.As a slasher lover not affiliated with the film in any way I would say give it a watch It's pretty good.."The piano in the soundtrack sounded a bit like a rip off of Adam Greens Hatchet, but that's just my opinion.
It won't make my top 10 of the year but it's worth being in my collection and I'm sure I will pull it out again one night and watch it again.. 』
(A filmmaker's opinion...) 『I met Frank Sabatella and some of the crew from this film at Monstermania this past August. I was there promoting my first uber-low budget movie, and Frank and his compadres struck me as nice, down-to-earth people. It's in that context that I offer my thoughts. To be perfectly forthcoming, Blood Night and my film share a common actor. However, I do not think this impacts my objectivity.
Firstly, Blood Night is a flawed film. To suggest otherwise would be dishonest. However, while it's easy to dismiss a film that lacks the craft or resources of some other offerings, it's more constructive to extract the positive - the kernels of ingenuity and flashes of brilliance - that can be found in most pictures.
To that end, Frank's premise is superb. The set-up, which blends the conventions of slasher, sexploitation, and supernatural horrors, stands out as one of the most fertile I've seen in a horror picture in recent years. The character of Mary Hatchet represents a quantum leap forward in the evolution of the slasher archetype. The effects are splashy and realistic for the most part. And while you could easily anticipate the third act reveal, the balancing act it necessitates between human and supernatural forces of antagonism, reveals ambitiousness on the part of the director that you seldom get in these types of offerings.
On the question that matters most, I think Blood Night holds strong appeal for slasher fans. I'm giving it three stars as I'm viewing it as an imperfect first effort from a fledgling movie director. I'm also factoring in the possibility that I may not be fully objective, and three stars appears to be the [current] median.
Film culture has evolved to the point that the audience is let in on industry secrets. Through audio commentaries, bts, press kits, and the proliferation of indie cinema, people have become more active participants in the motion picture art form. When judging a film, we integrate our understanding of the many limitations imposed upon the indie-filmmaker, as well as the fact that directors are making features earlier in their careers than in generations past, before getting their sea legs. I say this from personal experience.
In that respect, Sabatella's film is a worthy addition to my dvd library, and a nice start for a young filmmaker. I'm a pretty hard sell and I found a good deal to enjoy.』
(a good old fashioned slasher flick) 『i was really into this flick, it was pretty much everything you would expect from a movie called blood night. cool back story, grizzly deaths, tons of blood, lots of teens getting naked before they are killed and a lot of good nods to some of my favorite classic slasher flicks. i kind of figured out the ending early on, but the film still worked for me. didnt drag at all and pretty much kept me entertained the whole time. also, i thought it was cool that mary hatchet was not your usual hulking deformed slasher running through the woods, shes a hot ghost! it was unique. good extras on the disc as well. nice for an indie flick.』 『A group of teenagers celebrating the anniversary of the death of a local axe murderer suddenly find themselves face to face with the realities of this haunting urban legend.
Long Island, 1978: A young girl named Mary Mattock gruesomely murders her family with a hatchet and is locked away for life in Long Island's notorious Kings Park Psychiatric Center. Ten years later, Mary escapes from the asylum, leaving a grizzly trail of bodies and blood in her wake. Gunned down by the police, Mary meets her own demise outside the sanitarium walls. This incident gave birth to the legend of Mary Hatchet's walking ghost and the mischievous night named in honor of her death, BLOOD NIGHT!
Stemming from the real life Long Island legend of Mary Hatchet, Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet tells the tale of a group of teenagers enjoying their annual Blood Night festivities, when they come face to face with the reality of this haunting legend. One by one, the teens begin to disappear and meet their fate. As the body count rises, so do the unanswered questions about their missing friends and the secrets of Mary's horrifying past. Is there more to this legend than the vengeful ghost of Mary Hatchet? And if so, who will survive to tell the terrifying tale?
Fueled by intense and energetic performances from Nate Dushku, Bill Moseley, Danielle Harris, and Samantha Facchi as Mary Hatchet, audiences are in for a non-stop splatter fest filled with sex, guts, and heads that roll! Blood Night puts a neck-breaking spin on the gory and gut-wrenching "slasher" pieces from the legendary decade of 1980's horror!

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (DVD problems) 『Somthing wrong with the DVD.Waited for this to come out in dvd and when youn insert disk in player it skips, tried cleaning it, this really sucks.Buyer beware.』
(FINALLY!!!) 『I have been waiting so long for this one to hit next gen players, and now we skip right past the need for a dvd and get the blu-ray edition! Tight. Solid. Awesome. Amazing robot horror that hasn't lost any of its scares or sexiness in the years since it first came out!』
(Very disappointed) 『The quality is very bad for a blu-ray, and the Fx(special effect are very very badly made) I think you can buy this movie only if you are fan of a very old movie called "horror" but it's not, and you do to be fan also of the movies made without money (like homemade movies)』
(Low Budget Distopian Downer) 『This movie felt like a low budget version of Mad Max. A future, albeit horribly pessimistic (but some would argue realistic), depiction of the future in which war- and conflict-torn humans live in an environmentally and comfort destroyed world. Oh, and there's a horror theme to it as well with a terminator-like robot proving to be a menace. So obviously this movie is strictly sci-fi horror, and robot/mechanical sci-fi at that (i.e., excluding the juicy alien kind). Unfortunately, I really dislike this genre, and could not enjoy it at all. However, if you like this genre, then you may enjoy and I encourage you to not necessarily be swayed by my views. However, irrespective of the genre and my personal aversion, I did not find this to be a high quality film. It seemed as if Mad Max had been the inspiration for the film, but that vision did not match the budget. Normally I'm not at all budget sensitive, but I think a solid budget is necessary to make a futuristic sci-fi film work, and be believable. In this case, it was mostly tiny sets and carefully selected camera angles to avoid showing the viewer how little set they really had created. But it wasn't creative enough to make me not notice this absence. Then there's the music. I know this is a 1990 movie, on the tail end of the 1980s, but the music was just awful. It sounded like the music director got his first synthesizer and went a little crazy. I suppose synthesized music is consistent with the overall concept, but it was distractingly bad. Just because its 1980s doesnt mean it has to be awful.』
(A Great Blu-Ray Transfer!) 『I have been a fan of this movie from the first time I watched it years back. if your into sci-fi this movie will score high for you. The movie transfer to Hi-Def....I watched this movie via Blu-Ray in 1080i Video&5.1 Audio, the visuals are outstanding for a older film just a few minor film blemishes in the start of the film but nothing to scream about. The audio was tight&separation was flawless. Bottom line, A great transfer..A must have for any sci-fi movie buff.』 『REMASTERED IN STUNNING HIGH DEFINITION FROM ORIGINAL VAULT MATERIALS!
