(More Humor Makes This A More Appealing Gremlins Film) 『When this came out, it was an amazing movie because these Gremlin creatures looked so lifelike. They still look pretty real. What I like best about this film is that it took the hard edge off the first one and made it more of a comedy. To me, this sequel was more entertaining than the first film and one I would watch a lot more times. It's also family-friendly.
There are so many jokes and wild scenes in here it would many viewings to catch them all. For movie buffs, it's especially fun with all the references to other films in here.
However, it should be pointed out that there are still plenty of scenes where the gremlins are nasty and attack people, so the film is still horror-like in that respect. It may be played for comedic purposes, but these creatures are anything but friendly. In other words, there is still a bit of a hard edge in here for people who want that.
Phoebe Cates and Zach Galligan reprise their roles as the cute, small-town, wholesome (despite not being married, however) couple who live together who, of course, know all about these gremlins.
It was nice to see Jackie Joseph (of the original "Little Shop Of Horrors") again as well as some other well-known characters such as Christopher Lee, Robert Prosky, Dick Miller and Keye Luke.
The film just flies by, which tells you it's entertaining.』

Galligan's furry little buddy is captured by a mad scientist, who not only helps it multiply, but invests the nasty, scaly offspring with intelligence and the ability to talk. It is a crackling good suspense movie, that unwinds its chills in slow twists of plot, and superb dialogue. Amenabar quietly, subtly, and ever so deftly reveals the twisted secrets of a haunted mansion, seemingly perpetually wrapped in fog, and seething with dark psychological underpinnings.
THE OTHERS is a trance-like walk into a deviously, evolving nightmare, with a deliciously macabre finishing flourish. Not many ghost stories are comparable to THE SIXTH SENSE, or THE INNOCENTS. This lusciously atmospheric morsel is- in spades!』
(WEAK GHOST STORY) 『Perhaps, I was not in the mood; but this entry in the William James look-a-like contest just did not make it with me. No particular complaints, I simply was not caught up in the whirl of creaks and groans. The cast did well enough with what they had to work with, but they were not able to create the aura of mystery and suspense needed to induce the necessary spell.』
(Suspenseful) 『Pretty Good Ghost movie. i liked it a lot. this movie is very good i love it and so will you. recommend it for everyone』
(Haunting...) 『A ghost story unlike any other. Director Alejandro Amenabar's The Others is one of those far too rare jewels of the genre. With a strong plot, memorable characters, haunting atmosphere and more layers than one can uncover in a couple of viewings, this film is a masterpiece of film-making.
Unlike the vast majority of horror films out there that have to rely on slash fests, vulgarity, nudity and buckets of blood to try to smokescreen for weak plots of less than mediocre and forgetful films, The Others, is on that short list category with films like Jack Clayton's The Innocents, from the 1961 which was based on a Henry James story, Robert Wize's The Haunting, from 1963, adapted from Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining adapted from Steven King's masterpiece novel in 1980.

(True Horror) 『This is unquestionably the scariest, creepiest, most frightening and genuinely disturbing "haunting" film I've ever seen. Forget the Hollywood thrill ride special effects flimflam of "Poltergeist" ad nauseum. This is the real thing. And Nicole Kidman deserved an Oscar for her portrayal. It will stay with you for weeks after you've seen it. Truly shudder-inducing and I usually blow this stuff off as simply good fun. Not this time. Sleep well.』 『Screen sensation Nicole Kidman (MOULIN ROUGE, EYES WIDE SHUT) delivers an utterly unforgettable performance in this scary and stylish suspense thriller. While awaiting her husband's return from war, Grace (Kidman) and her two young children live an unusually isolated existence behind the locked doors and drawn curtains of a secluded island mansion. Then, after three mysterious servants arrive and it becomes chillingly clear that there is far more to his house than can be seen, Grace finds herself in a harrying fight to save her children and keep her sanity. Acclaimed by critics everywhere, the unpredictable twists and turns of this compelling hit will keep you guessing as it keeps you riveted to the edge of your seat!』 『A welcome throwback to the spooky traditions of Jack Clayton'sThe Innocentsand Robert Wise'sThe Haunting, Alejandro Amenábar'sThe Othersfavors atmosphere, sound, and suggestion over flashy special effects. Set in 1945 on a fog-enshrouded island off the British coast, the film begins with a scream as Grace (Nicole Kidman) awakens from some unspoken horror, perhaps arising from her religiously overprotective concern for her young children, Anne (Alakina Mann) and Nicholas (James Bentley). The children are hypersensitive to light and have lived in a musty manor with curtains and shutters perpetually drawn. With Grace's husband presumably lost at war, this ominous setting perfectly accommodates a sense of dreaded expectation, escalating when three strangers arrive in response to Grace's yet-unposted request for domestic help. Led by housekeeper Mrs. Mills (Fionnula Flanagan), this mysterious trio is as closely tied to the house's history as Grace's family is--as are the past occupants seen posthumously posed in a long-forgotten photo album.
With her justly acclaimed performance, Kidman maintains an emotional intensity that fuels the film's supernatural underpinnings. And while Amenábar's pacing is deliberately slow, it befits the tone of penetrating anxiety, leading to a twist that extends the story's reach from beyond the grave. Amenábar unveiled a similarly effective twist in his Spanish thrillerOpen Your Eyes(remade by Cameron Crowe asVanilla Sky), but where that film drew debate,The Othersis finely crafted to provoke well-earned goose bumps and chills down the spine.--Jeff Shannon』
A completely unnecessary film (Saw III wrapped things up pretty nicely, but the franchise is a cash cow so more keep coming) which is unbelievably transparent in its pathetic attempt to craft a continuing story out of the few loose ends that were leftover from the last installment, Saw IV could be described far better as "desperate" than "scary": the only reason to see this one is if you want to say you've seen every Saw.
1.5/4』
(Just keeps getting better and better!!!) 『All I can really say about Saw 4, it that the series just gets better and better with each new film. The film is bloody as usual, and we continue to learn new things about John "Jigsaw" Kramer with each film, and we end up being more sympathatic with the character... The film has a good pace, and keeps you guessing as usual and still continues to play with your mind. There are times, that even I get a little confused of what is going on and who is involved and why... I like this series and can't wait to see 5 and 6, even 7 when it is finally released... Oh, yes! There will be a Saw 7...
I recommend this film, but beware... there is a lot of blood and gore, especially with the unrated director's cut which i have... You have been warned!』
(Confusing, illogical mish-mash) 『Let me preface this review by saying that I love horror movies. A good horror movie is good on its own terms; a bad one has potential to be good as a bad movie. Saw IV fails to live up to its potential either way. I didn't love Saw III a lot, but it was a decent 2.5-3 star movie, and the cliffhanger ending got me interested in renting Saw IV. I wish I hadn't.
We begin with a seriously fake autopsy. I've never actually performed one, so maybe it's super-realistic. But when you see the big pieces of latex (I mean, skin) peeled off of Jigsaw, you might actually start laughing like I did. That's not an auspicious beginning. And thus begins Saw IV. The flashbacks and heavy-handed exposition start coming fast and furious, rendering Saw IV more an exercise in figuring out the overly-complex editing than an exercise in straightforward horror. We the viewers get to see mild-mannered Jigsaw when he was just a regular old architect or civil engineer or something. He was more interesting as an enigmatic and all-knowing killing machine.
On top of the confusing editing, Saw IV fails to hew to its own internal logic. One of the key features of a genre film, particularly in SF, horror or fantasy, is to set up simple internal logic and hew to it diligently. Otherwise, it's very easy to shatter the suspension of disbelief. One of the key rules of Saw is that Jigsaw lets his victims "make a choice" - each gets to live or die based on that choice, and he lets them go if they live. Indeed, Jigsaw found Shawnee Smith to be an unsuitable pupil due to her failure to follow the rules. But the big set-piece trap in Saw IV completely ignores the rules, given that at least one of the participants was going to live or die completely due to the actions of someone else. Please, Saw franchise, if you're going to set up your main character to have a specific character-defining rule, make him follow it.
For spoiler-related reasons I won't go into here, the cliffhanger from Saw III isn't merely not resolved - it isn't even mentioned in this movie! That knocked a star off right there.
If you watched Saw III, you will rent Saw IV. You may, however, call it quits at Saw IV and purposely avoid the remaining films. I, for one, do not intend to rent Saw XIV to see which 20-year-old footage they're cutting up to make more flashbacks for the 2025 release. At best, this is worth a rent.』
('I don't have to convice everybody. Just twelve people') 『Now many didn't care for Saw IV, and felt the series reached it's peak with Saw III.
But I think this film goes hand-in-hand with Saw III. Granted, it went in a lot of directions that are polarizing for fans, as it ruined some potential that Saw III opened up for Saw IV, but it opened several new desirable elements as well.
I think this film deals with similar issues as Saw III; the acceptance of loss, redemption and forgiveness. This one deals more in the realms of letting go of things one cannot accept, and the danger of trying to prevent those around one from making the wrong choices, thus prevnting them from doing the right ones.
This installment shows more of what made Jigsaw into Jigsaw, how he went from John Kramer to sadisitic moral murderer Jigsaw.
I have to say Lyriq Bent, Scott Patterson, Costas Mandylor and as always Tobin Bell did great in this film. And it's important to understand that sometimes these aren't for the critics, but for the fans. And it's not about blood, it's about the story. I can skip over the trap scenes and still enjoy every other element, such as the actors, the dialogue, the story, the characters and the pace.
Unfotunately, Saw IV is a film people will judge before understanding, and that's just the way it will always be. I, however, defy this conventional thought with a Saw IV poster in my room.
Enjoy.』 『When SWAT Commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demented traps and save an old friend or face the deadly consequences.System Requirements:Running Time: 95 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: HORROR/TORTURE Rating: UNRATED UPC: 031398221975 Manufacturer No: 22197』 『Even death itself can't bring the savage games of Jigsaw to an end, asSaw IVproves; if anything, the fiendishly clever serial killer (once again played by Tobin Bell) is equally capable of dealing out violent death while lying on a morgue slab as he was in life.Saw IValso offers a class reunion of characters from the previous three films, each once again up to their necks in Jigsaw's schemes. Chief among them is Sgt. Rigg (Lyriq Bent) fromSaw II, who must place himself in Jigsaw's shoes in order to rescue Detective Matthews (Donnie Walhberg), who was abducted by the killer at the end ofSaw II, and Forensic Hoffman (Costas Mandylor from SawIII), from another elaborate murder device. Meanwhile, FBI agents led by Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls, Aliens in America) attempt to track Rigg as he carries out Jigsaw's horrific notion of justice from beyond the grave. Until he sees some suspicious activity in a church. Turns out it's a front for terrorists fighting alien creatures bent on our submission. Somehow these aliens have created a ray or some treatment that makes us see them as human, and the subliminal messages are a riot.
Is that a Woman's Day magazine? Not really. Ads that subliminally say "Obey", "Marry and Reproduce" and "Sleep" are all good ones.
A parody of sorts of our consumer culture -- more fun than science fiction. The gun battles are fair, but very one-sided. What Roddy's character has to do to convince people to wear these special sunglasses is interesting as well.
Lots of plot holes dragged the movie for me. I can buy humans cooperating in order to make money, but why so few really know and how widespread the alien influence is not made clear. And their transport technology and other scientific marvels, why do they even need the Earth?
Anyway, too much thinking. Enjoy this piece of shoot-em-up fluff!
My DVD had NOTHING in the way of special features, sadly.

(Before There Was The Matrix, There Was . . .) 『They Live prefigured "The Matrix" with a much more low-tech and low-budget version of the same idea. More fun too, in a way, because it does not take itself quite as seriously. Roddy Piper's character is wonderful, especially the scene of his first encounter with the sunglasses. I loved his shootout in the bank, and his fight with Keith David in the alley that goes on for ten minutes is truly a classic. If you liked The Matrix, this is definitely worth a look.』
(Obey the Piper) 『Here's a bare-bones DVD of a good Carpenter flick. 20+ years later, They Live actually looks better, perhaps more quaint, more retro than I would expect after all this time.
What is this movie? Basically, it's Carpenter's 'ode' to Reaganism, which would make it very relevant today (I do expect a remake, over-budgeted and over-produced, but the themes beg for one). In what is supposed to be the 'near future', times are tough, the economy is bad, the poor class is growing and society is becoming more polarized between the wealthy and everyone else...sort of like what's always happening in the USA. A drifter shows up in town (looks like LA), and he finds some construction work. Soon enough, he notices something strange going on at the local church, where some kind of underground movement operates. Inside, he discovers special sunglasses that 'reveal' what is really going on: a race of ugly, skeletal-faced aliens is living among us, and all advertisements are really veiled commands to 'OBEY', 'CONSUME', 'BUY', and have 'NO THOUGHT'. This matches the message in some pirate broadcasts where a man talks about the subservience of the masses, the permanent sleep-state that allows the owners to turn everyone into 'livestock'.
Carpenter's movies definitely changed when he lost cinematographer Dean Cundey, but this one still looks very much like an earlier Carpenter entry. In a lead role one can easily see written for favorites Kurt Russell, or even Tom Atkins, Carpenter uses WWF icon 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. And you know what? For the most part...it works. (Today, they would use The Rock, er, Dwayne Johnson). This is not an actor's role, and Piper's face is perfect for portraying the beaten down 'everyman' laborer. In fact, he'd have been a good choice for The Running Man, which this story resembles in some ways (setting and theme). And Keith David, who literally needs to be beaten into 'seeing' (oh, the metaphors), is reliable as always (and as tough as Piper).
The effects can be cheesy, yet there's something plainly effective in those black-and-white sunglass POV shots---dull matte paintings depicting the landscape (BUY, CONSUME, KEEP SLEEPING) that reminds one of a 60s painting. There's a lot of action, too, as an enraged Piper looks to take revenge of the monolithic aliens by blasting them on his way to subverting their all-powerful signal that masks their 'ugliness'. And the ending is pure, bittersweet Carpenter.
I think the movie holds up well and is relevant today, even if we've taken this for granted and have accepted the 'new cynicism' alluded to in the film (spoken by a politician-alien). The themes would have gone over a youngster's head back in the day, yet the basic story was appealing. Now one can appreciate Carpenter for being a quasi-Hawks-out-of-time figure in Hollywood. Born too late, as he said. The film is not overly preachy, and not overly talky, either. There's a long fight scene between Piper and David where they really do look like they're beating the crap out of each other. That metaphor, like the others, is not difficult to read.
The DVD? The DVD is absolutely bare-bones. Nice to have this movie in the format, but no doubt this needs a proper version, perhaps when they get around to asking Carpenter, who always does good commentaries on his films. You can find this very cheap, and for Carpenter fans, a no-brainer. Actually, for anyone who enjoys angry commentary on 80s Reaganism, highly recommended. Am waiting for the super box set with Blu Ray, DVD, VHS, video disc, and a pair of those sunglasses. And maybe an 'OBEY' shirt.』

Billboards, store signs, magazine covers--all bear subliminal messages to OBEY, to CONSUME, to have NO INDEPENDENT THOUGHT. Money itself says THIS IS YOUR GOD. But worst of all, with these glasses you see which of us are really hideous, bug-eyed aliens. The conceptual breakthrough is hilarious while keeping its roots in darker matters. Although some fault the film for settling into its action plot, the ending has a great payoff. And the direction by John Carpenter is handled with superb workmanlike aplomb. (The same old story) 『I really want to like Rob Zombie's body of film work. I really do. I made excuses for his early stuff since he was just starting out. I made excuses for Halloween since it really wasn't his story. But now he's come out with something uniquely his and it's just a tad disappointing. Maybe I'm just expecting too much, but Superbeasto just leaves me flat. It plays out like a Ren and Stimpy episode in overdrive. At first blush that might not sound like a bad thing, except that R&S was awesome when it first came out almost 20 years ago - and to still ape that style and vibe is just a little tired. Sadly, I'm starting to think RZ just doesn't have the film-making chops to make the movies he sees in his head - kinda like giving a five year old sheet music for Mozart and expecting a symphony.
Potty humor abounds and there are even some clever moments, but all in all The Haunted World of El Superbeasto is simply unremarkable.
Two and a half stars if they had it.』
(Wink Wink, Nod Nod) 『Zombie's animated homage to the cartoon sleaze of the 70s and 80s finally sees the light of day and it's easy to understand why this over-budgeted, under-scripted cult cinema monster mash took so long to hit shelves...it just wasn't all that good. Even with above-average, though dated, animation and a bunch of A-list talent to voice characters, Zombie was unable to bring this concept to life, make us love his main character or even deliver on any quality sleaze. Some topless cartoon nudity doesn't make this Fritz The Cat.
Hardcore horror fans will likely get all the winks and nods that Zombie laced throughout his film and, to be fair, there are indeed one or two comical sequences on display but it all just felt so uninspired, generally unfunny and a bit of a drag. The film was about a masked wrestler questing to get "lucky"...and that's really it...end of story. There was a silly little subplot that featured Sherri Moon Zombie's character and her on and off battle with a bunch of undead zombies but none of it seemed to hit the right note.
Could this have been raunchier? It probably couldn't have hurt this flick. As it stands right now it'll titillate a few teens and end up in some collections to gather dust after one viewing.
I wanted to like Zombie's cartoon but it was too cult for mainstream viewers, wasn't scary enough for the horror crowd and not nearly sleazy enough for the exploitation fans. Honestly it felt like an extended and uncut episode of Ren&Stimpy with less comedy and zero boogers.』
(Eh.) 『Packed with a lot of inside genre nods and homage praising Russ Meyer to John Carpenter to Stanley Kubrick and, etc. - El Superbeasto is a bit overwhelming with a kitchen sink on top of that mountain. It seems to try to be like so many things and it's just a lot to process - it's like a Tarintino flick, but animated with stolen scenes from a million little unknown cult faves from yore. I liked it, glad I saw it. But it's not something I need to see again or even have in my collection. I appreciate what Zombie tries to do and wants to do, but he just never seems to pull it off and I am not really sure why. My major problem with the movie is Rosario Dawson's character's dialogue - the excessive Urban style yammering is not cute, funny, it's just plain annoying. This movie has everything I like in movies, packed full of all the genre greats - boobs, nazi's, werewolves, aliens, monster, devils, the list goes on, but it's just lifeless.』 『El Superbeasto aka“Beasto” is an unstoppable superhero masked wrestler, Producer/Director/Star of BeastoWorld Enterprises—and world-famous man of action! (Buy the Blu-ray NOW! Greatly improved over the DVD.) 『Not sure what some were looking at, but there is no comparison between the DVD and this Blu-ray. I looked at my DVD, and there was very heavy compression. I'd go so far as to say it looked like crap.
This Blu-ray looks great. If you love this movie, you'll enjoy this Blu-ray.
There are people complaining about the grain. It's on the DVD too. With HD, it'll be more noticeable, as the higher detail allows more of the natural film grain to be visible. But it looks normal to me.
Glad to see this classic on Blu-ray.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (OMG... What Happend???) 『OK... First let me say I'm a die hard Buffy fan. Every other season was amazing and had me literally jumping outa my seat with excitement, but season seven was just terrible for its usual fun and fresh seasons. I think the best way to voice my opinion is to list the things I disliked about the season 7:
The "Big Bad" of the season wasnt so big or bad at all. For the first evil and sole reason for sin on earth, this villian absolutely sucked. He could not take corporial form therefore couldnt touch or be touched. Because of this, Buffy never physically fought the "First". He had to call upon other bad guys to do his dirty work. The only breath of fresh air "The First" brought to the season was taking the form of some of the dead characters from previous seasons, but once the shock of it wore off it left you asking yourself, "Is that it? Is that all he can do?"
Anya and Zander seemed to be in a lull throughout. They would make love now and again but nothing would come of it, and once they killed her off Zander and Anya's story never seemed to wrap up. In fact Zander didnt even seem to care that his girlfriend was dead.
Season 7 didnt introduce anything new. The episodes seemed to repeat themselves from previous years and dragged on borishly, especially during the middle where the season started to lose my interest. I found some of the episodes so terrible I wanted to fast forward to the end, such as "Storyteller", "Same Time Same Place",and "Empty Places". Yet there were few great episodes too like, "Conversations with Dead People", "Him", and "Dirty Girls".
Spike and Buffy's relationship I found to be totally bizarre and it took me out of the story. Spike used to be so bad ass but now seems so "Buffy-whipped" its pathetic. She doesnt want spike but doesnt want anyone else to have him.
The story line about the potential slayers was so off putting. You didnt even get to know half of there names let alone feel for them if they were killed. For most of the season they were totally useless and whinny, and a majority of time was focused on training them to become more powerful Slayers. The introduction of a completely new cast was overwhelming.
The last episode got so ridiculous I found myself cringing at times. In the begining of the season the Uber-Vampires were nealry impossible to kill, yet the last episode turns into a "Lord of the Rings" type battle where the Potential slayers (after Willow puts a spell on them to make them stronger) kill thousands of them easy as pie. Just when they start losing the battle Spike randomly glows really bright, turns all the other vamps to dust and dies himself, right before the entire town of Sunnydale collapses into the ground. It was way over-the-top.
I did enjoy the return of Faith, my absolute favorite character in the series, and the introduction of the evil preacher, Caleb. He was the only formidable villian of the season, yet the final battle between him and Buffy was pathetic. He was killed so easily and fast it left me wanting to see more of him. In my opinion, I think he should have been the "Big Bad" of the season.
Seven was the absolute worst season of all the seasons. It felt as if the writers were tired of working on the show and half-assed it, but if your a die hard Buffy fan its worth a watch for the few good episodes and closure, just dont expect the classic edge of your seat, laugh-fest, thrill coaster kinda Buffy.』
(A horrible end to a once great series) 『And that's about all I have to say about this season. It was just a piece of garbage. The plot, the characters, the villians, Buffy's long-winded uninspiring speeches, the annoying slayers-in-training, the horrible looking CGI-fueled action scenes, and the crappy end to a once-great series. I don't even think I want to do an in-depth review of season 7, like I did for the other seasons. However, there a few key points I want to address. After I watched the cliffhanger ending of season 6, I had to watch season 7. I mean, Spike with a soul? How could it not be awesome. Here's how. Spike doesn't act any different. He's a little nutty when he first gets back to Sunnydale, but it didn't really make any sense. Angel didn't act like that when he got his soul back. He was very remorseful, but he didn't just sit around spouting gibberish. And once Spike gets over himself, he's no different from the Spike we knew in the last 3 seasons. I never really thought of Spike as evil, necessarily. Maybe a little bit in the first half of Season 2, but he had already pretty much turned good before he got his soul back. He was still kind of a jerk, and that should have changed with him getting his soul back. I mean, look at Angel. He did a complete 180 when he got a soul. Spike has pretty much the same personality with and without a soul. Now, the main villian of this season, The First. Remember them? Those ghost guys who started tormenting Angel around Christmas in season 3? Well, the writers decided to make them the big bad of this season. They suddenly show up and decide to destroy the world. So where were they for the last 4 years? And who are they? How did they create the vampires-on-steroids if they can't physically manifest themselves? What happened to them at the end? Did they get blown up along with the hellmouth? Are they somehow linked to the hellmouth? WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?!? I want to bring up one more point. The character Dawn. She turned into an excellent character in this season. I mean, she finally grows up and stops being such a brat. That is, until the end. That thing where she and the other slayers kick Buffy out of the house was the stupidest, most contrived, pointless plot line I've ever seen. It makes no sense, it makes you want to kill Dawn even more, and Buffy is back with them at the end of the next episode. What did you do guys do that for?! I want to point out all the annoying characters in the later half of this series. Riley. They removed him when there was a fan outcry for it. Tara. Her bland character was finally killed off. Anya. She finally dies at the end of this season. But Dawn? She stays on for the rest of the series. She's even in the season 8 comics. I want to compare Dawn to Connor on Angel. Both of them are easily the worst, most hated characters on their respective shows. The difference? On Angel, they had the good sense to remove Connor after one season. Why not on Buffy? I mean, Joss Whedon was overseeing both shows. In fact, I want to ask another question. If Joss Whedon was the creator of both shows, and he oversaw both shows, then why was Angel so good, and Buffy seasons 4, 5, and 7 so awful?』
(Buffy Rules!) 『In season 7 Spike is crazy, Willow returns, Dawn grows up, Buffy gets a job, the hell mouth is reopened, and more. What's not to like?』
(BUFFY THE VAMPIRE FAILURE) 『This show failed on every level there is as sci fi and horror. It failed and was canceled twice by 2 networks. this is several discs of terrible. poor acting and terrible scripts abound. save your money』
(great ending) 『it was so disapointing to see spike die and Anyaka too, this was a great ending to a great show.』 『As Buffy acompanies Dawn on her first date at the new Sunnydale High, Giles continues Willow's magic education in England. But while Buffy is surprised to be offered a guidance counselor job, Willow is shocked to experience a horrific future vision of the Hellmouth.
Willow returns to Sunnydale and Giles soon follows with word that the Watcher's Council has been destroyed. Determined to make one last stand, Buffy and her allies gather for the upcoming battle, yet nothing can prepare them for The First and his robed Bringers, who are killing all the Potential Slayers- and anyone else who gets in their way.』

It is not so much a scary movie more like, mentally scary. This orphan girl plays the part great and is psychopath at least. Really great twists in the movie especially about the dwarfism. The orphan girl is very cunning and human emotion means nothing to her. The only thing I did not like is when the Dad died at the end.』
(Movie Lover) 『One of the best ghost stories made. The actors (especially the children) were so good. The mother's pain so realistic. Love love love this movie!!! Guillermo Del Toro is awesome!!!』
(Ghost Story and Mother's Love) 『Those who like such films as "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others" (or Jack Clayton's "The Innocent" and Robert Wise's "The Haunting") should not miss "The Orphanage" ("El orfanato") directed by Barcelona-born Juan Antonio Bayona. The Spanish film is a rather remarkable effort in that, like a classic ghost story, the film, which cleverly uses some of the familiar elements from horror genre, favors atmosphere over logic, and it works.
The following paragraphs contain a mild spoiler.
[STORY] Laura (Belén Rueda) comes back to the abandoned orphanage by the sea 30 years after she left the place. This is where she was raised when she was a little girl, and Laura is going to open a new orphanage here for the handicapped children with her husband and adapted son Simón. When everything is going well, however, some strange things start to happen. And finally during the party Simón disappears suddenly, as if spirited away.
Some say "The Orphanage" is a ghost story, some a supernatural thriller. Whatever the film is, it owes its success to Belén Rueda as Laura. The Spanish star literally becomes the character she plays, a tormented mother whose beloved son is long missing. Her acting is so strong and her character's sadness sometimes so painful to see that "The Orphanage" ultimately becomes an intense mother-and-son drama, even though the son is not always there.
True, most of the narrative devices in the Spanish film "The Orphanage" are not particularly new - a little boy "speaking" with his "imaginary friend" or the "secrets" of an old house have been dealt with so many times before. But there is something very unique about The Orphanage," that is, something unnerving that curiously stays in your mind long after watching the film itself. It is hard for me to describe the nature of it. Maybe it is the shocking "truths" about the orphanage and the missing case. Or maybe it is some of the film's very spooky scenes or the ending that defies our expectations. All I can say is see for yourself.
The film is co-produced by Guillermo del Toro, of "Pan's Labyrinth."』
(Movie of Nothing) 『As any film on unexplained or horror, a story of former orphan's plan to renovate her former closed orphanage building into a family-run seaside hotel, is lacking of any practical logic and far remote from reality as everything else occurred during run of plot rather psycho-delusive than worth being created at all.
There are much worse movies of such gender and if some wasted time and money to watch, it is good for producers anyway. 』
(Moody but light on scares) 『I've heard quite a few raves for "The Orphanage". I really liked the great set and wonderful less-is-more atmosphere presented in this film. I always appreciate the ability to tell a scary story without excessive gore. But after watching this twice, it doesn't stand up to other recent spooky treats like "The Others" or "The Sixth Sense" or even other Guillermo Del Toro related projects like "The Devil's Backbone". Perhaps I needed more involvement from Carlos (the father) or maybe a better child actor than the boy who played Simon.
The movie was certainly slow-moving but that is normally something that I have plenty of patience for. I can recommend "The Orphanage" for it's cinematography but not really on its characters or storytelling.』 『Academy-Award nominated filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro (director of Pan's Labyrinth) presents The Orphanage, a chilling ghost story about a woman who discovers dark and horrific secrets hidden within her cherished childhood home and her desperate attempt to rescue her family from the nightmare into which she unwittingly led them.』 『It's only his first film, but Spain’s Juan Antonio Bayona has already figured out the secret to a successful supernatural thriller: emphasize character over special effects. Like Walter Salles'sDark Waterand Alejandro Amenábar'sThe Others,The Orphanagepivots on a pretty woman and an unusual child. When her old orphanage goes on the market, Laura (Belén Rueda, Amenábar'sThe Sea Inside) and Carlos (Fernando Cayo) settle in with their son, Simón (Roger Príncep). Once acclimated to the remote seaside surroundings, they plan to re-open it as a home for special-needs children. Meanwhile, their seven-year-old doesn't know he's adopted or that he has a life-threatening illness. He does, however, have a lot of imaginary playmates. When Simón disappears without a trace, his parents contact the police, but to no avail. Because Laura has been hearing odd noises and having strange visions, they proceed to consult a medium. Aurora (Geraldine Chaplin, speaking perfect Spanish) is convinced they aren't alone. Carlos has his doubts, but Laura makes like a detective and revisits her childhood--through photographs, home movies, and exploration of the spooky stone manor--to determine who or what abducted her son. Produced and presented by Guillermo Del Toro,The Orphanageis less fanciful than his works, though it does bear a vague resemblance to the ghostlyDevil's Backbone. There are a few gory make-up effects, but Bayona mostly preys on our fear of the unknown to craft a first-rate fright fest.--Kathleen C. Fennessy』
