(Lady in White)
『Very happy with my purchase and how fast I received it! Classic Halloween movie in my house hold! Thank you so much!』

(A bitter sweet movie that is hauntingly appealing)
『This movie always makes me tear up. When I was younger I saw some scenes in the movie that left me choked up. A black man in the movie was accused of harming the main protagonist and other children.
This movie exposed me as a young child to reality such as racism and cruelty however the ending left me more optimistic and full of hope.
This movie isn't very graphic in it's depiction of violence but the theme is there.

The movie if anything will teach your children of the grim realities of life however it's not so grim and depressing to the point of haunting your psyche after the credits roll.
I think the Lady in White is more of a mystery than a horror movie per se.』

(A Classic That Brings Back Memories)
『Lady in White is a great movie that brings back memories for me. For years I've had images in my head of a scary movie I saw when I was little with a lady, cliff, and a cloak room. My parents never allowed me to watch the really violent scary parts and I was too young to remember the name of the film. Finally after all these years I found the name of the movie and have watched it in its entirety and it still gives me goosebumps when I watch it. There is something about old women, white powdery skin, and fire that just scares the hell out of you. This is a must see for those who grew up in the 80s.』

(Classic tale of the supernatural)
『"The Lady in White" ranks as one of my all-time favorite ghost stories and I've watched it numerous times over the years. It begins with a flashback to the past where a young boy Frankie [Lukas Haas] gets locked in his classroom closet at school on Halloween Night in 1962. The night has life-altering consequences for young Frankie. He witnesses the ghostly recreation of Melissa, a little girl's murder [Joelle Jacobi] whose spirit continues to haunt the place. The killer who is back looking for evidence inadvertently left behind, strangles Frankie, but he lives. He does have a chilling experience where Melissa's troubled spirit beseeches him to help look for her mother. Young Frankie learns to his consternation that Melissa is but one in a string of children that have been molested and murdered over the past 10 years. As Frankie unearths more troubling truths, he finds a link between Melissa and the ghostly lady in white, and scrambles to uncover the truth before he himself becomes the killer's next victim.

Those who love a good old-fashioned ghost story with plenty of thrills must watch this movie. It doesn't disappoint. Some of my other favorites in the genre are "The Changeling", "The Legacy", "The Haunting", "Ghost Story","The Sentinel", "Burnt Offerings", "Audrey Rose" etc.

(GOOD MOVIE, NOT GREAT...)
『This is a pretty good movie, not a masterpiece like some seem to think. If I were using a 4 Star movie review system I'd give it 2 1/2 Stars. Hopefully without saying enough to be a Spoiler, there's a scene near the end where two lights shoot off into the air, that really should have been three lights.』
『The ghosts of the dead can't rest witout the help of the living in this terrifying horror film that's "one of the most intelligent and riveting ghost stories since Poltergeist" (LA Weekly) Starring Lukas Haas, Len Cariou, Alex Rocco and Katherine Helmond, and presented here in a full-length director's cut, Lady in White delivers nonstop thrills and "will keep you in mountingsuspense right through the chilling climax" (Entertainment Report)!Frankie Scarlatti (Haas) lives in a small town with a deadly secret. For a decade, a serial child killer has eluded police, and the death toll continues to rise. Then one night Frankie gets locked in his school and witnesses the ghost of the first victim being murdered. Now, aided by the girl's restless spirit, Frankie takes it upon himself to bring her assailant to justice. But in a town with no strangers, the killer may be close than he knows.』
『An impressive labor of love from independent writer-director Frank LaLoggia, this low-budget supernatural thriller was a sleeper hit in 1988, deservedly praised by critics and horror fans for its effective combination of ghostly terror and small-town charm. The influence of Steven Spielberg can be felt in the movie's imaginative scenario, but it's also got the affectionate appeal of autobiographical nostalgia, mixing details of LaLoggia's own youth in upstate New York with a frightening tale of Halloween horror. It begins when young Frankie (Lukas Haas) is locked in a grade-school cloakroom on Halloween night of 1962; he witnesses the ghostly image of a little girl and is nearly strangled to death by an unknown assailant. From that point forward, Frankie is convinced that the ghost is somehow connected to the Lady in White, a haunting vision of local legend. A black janitor is tried as Frankie's attacker and suspected in a series of unsolved murders, but recurring apparitions lead Frankie to the truth of the case--a revelation of real-life violence and supernatural wonders. This plot may be a bit too cluttered for a conventional ghost story, but the movie's ambition works in its favor by providing an emotional subtext for its youthful sense of wonder. There's an abundance of charm and humor, but this also a moving story of grief and loss, tracing young Frankie's adjustment to the death of his mother. This givesLady in Whitemore depth than is typical for horror thrillers, and the movie further benefits from the obvious care and compassion that LaLoggia brought to its creation.--Jeff Shannon

(There's a New Fish in the Pond)
『Poor unwilling Brody tackles an even bigger great white in Jaws 2, without any help from Hooper or Quint. His motivation is his two sons Sean and Michael, who go daysailing with a group of young islanders and get into a terrifying situation only their dad can get them and the others out of. I enjoyed Jaws, but I liked Jaws 2 better. It has more upbeat music and colorful sails on the boats. Roy Scheider again plays Brody but with a new fish to deal with. Lorraine Gary again plays his wife while Murray Hamilton again appears as the reluctant mayor. Even though Steven Spielberg was not the director, the action moved very nicely with plenty of heart-stopping moments. The movie may not scare viewers as much as Jaws did, but I feel it is a worthy sequel to the original blockbuster.

(The best Jaws sequel.)
『From the director of a few episodes of Kojak and Baretta, plus the Academy Award winning masterpiece Supergirl, comes Jaws 2. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to a guaranteed profit...

Jaws 2 is arguably the second best shark movie ever made. I know that's a bold statement considering the brilliance of Jaws 4 and Deep Blue Sea, but just hear me out: it's better than Jaws 4 and Deep Blue Sea! It's even better than Jaws 3. In fact, the only flaw Jaws 2 has is that the shark doesn't get beat up by dolphins. If they could only combine the dude with the afro from Jaws 2 and the dolphins from Jaws 3, plus Jaws 3's cutting edge special effects, the banana boat from Jaws 4 and Samuel L. Jackson from Deep Blue Sea, we'd have the perfect movie! But, alas, Hollywood wants to be greedy. So all we have here is a watchable follow-up to one of the greatest blockbusters of all time.

Once again, the Brody family doesn't want to stay out of the water, so, naturally, a shark comes and eats everybody. Only this time, instead of attacking naked girls and Alex Kintner, it's developed an appetite for cheap looking boats. The first half of the movie is a little draggy, but the pace really picks up once Michael and his stupid friends go out sailing. While none of these people are as cool as Robert Shaw, at least we get a cool helicopter attack and the dude with the afro throwing verbal abuse at little Brody, who's stranded on a capsized boat.

While I wouldn't call this a "flat" movie, it lacks the flow of Spielberg's original. The style is fairly typical of a late 70s flick. But, hey, it's fun to watch. As a kid, I didn't care which Jaws movie was on TV, as long as it was one of the first two. Things haven't changed.

Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton reprise their roles from the first movie, which somehow provides Jaws 2 with a little more class. John Williams also returns to compose part two of one of his signature scores. It's also worth noting that while this DVD goes for cheap and advertises itself as simply "Jaws 2 - Widescreen," the special features are fairly impressive. Kudos to Universal for actually giving this release some attention.』

(very good but lacks creativity)
『the movie itself is very good i think it is worth buying, the only thing thought is that some parts of it copy the origanal jaw,like.....

1, when the girl finds the dead whale, this was like when they found the arm
2, agian, the mare refewses to beleave there is a shark attack
3, the time is the same ( it is during the nearing of 4th of july)

but this is still a great movie and i love it』

(Tolerably Watchable)
『I know I said only one a week but I had to post this review as soon as I finished "Jaws: The Revenge" because I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate mail for this. This film isn't even measurable to the third film! The acting is great; Scheider is very believable in his paranoia of the shark and his anger when the council doesn't agree with him. The story is great (I know this film is technically a rehash of the first film but at least it doesn't have a rehashed, copout ending like Richard Donner's Cut of "Superman II" but that's another review for another day), and the music was great (it's John Williams, would you expect anything less?). The action&dramatic scenes were great; the helicopter scene and the shocking ending (sorry for the horrible pun) and this is neither dramatic or action oriented but I like the subtle reference to the non-Jaws rip-off, "Orca: The Killer Whale". And heck even the shark looked great! I'm pretty sure you're wondering when I'm going to get to why I don't care for this movie compared to the supposedly bad fourth film. Well if you haven't read my review for that one, I'll fill you in on what ruined this movie and its one word: (dramatic pause) TEENAGERS!!! Did we really need them, besides Brody's kids? OK, a girlfriend and two, three friends tops for Michael would've been fine but at least it could've made their scenes watchable! The only reason teenagers were even included in the script, from what I've observed and researched anyway, was because of the then rising popularity of the slasher film (Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween particular) They're given way too much screen time and I was begging that the shark was going to eat more of them. Yes, it was sad when the girl who saved Sean's life got devoured right in front of the poor boy's eyes but one heroic act is not enough for me to give this a favorable review. I already don't like kid actors and after this movie, now I have to add teen actors to the list (the ones from Power Rangers don't count, they were pretty much in their twenties anyway).』

("A Worthy Sequel To A Blockbuster!)
『"Jaws 2" is probably the best sequel in movie history. Although not the classic like the original "Jaws", this film proved that people still wanted to be scared of the water three years after its predecessor shook up the boxoffice. "Jaws 2" would be one of the top 25 biggest movies of all-time for over twenty years, a fact that many fans and critics fail to remember.
Steven Speilberg could not be persuaded to direct the film, but Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton reprise their roles as another great white shark wrecks havok on a summer-time resort. The script is not as strong as the original, but there are some scenes that will scare you, especially the scene in which the shark attacks a helicopter, and the scene in which a woman is attacked in her boat. The ending is a great finale, nearly as good as the original.
"Jaws 2" had the best marketing campaign for a film when it was released in the summer of 1978: "just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water!".
The DVD is full of bonuses, including "The Making of Jaws 2 Documentary", deleted scenes, trailers, and more.』

『AMITY'S CITIZENS AND POLICE CHIEF DREAD ANOTHER TOURIST SEASON WITH A GREAT WHITE SHARK NEAR THE BEACH.』
『Ushering in the age of the inferior sequel,Jaws 2was essentially a license to print money. Indeed, the film did very well despite blatantly replicating the plot of Steven Spielberg's original, though to lesser effect. Roy Scheider returns as Martin Brody, sheriff of the small island town of Amity. Just as the beachside resort is rebounding from the previous movie's shark attacks, another great white is snacking on divers and water-skiers. Naturally, the town fathers don't want to confront reality and choose to proceed with a lucrative sailing regatta, resulting in a grisly loss of life. Besides the fact that director Jeannot Szwarc takes an impersonal, workaday approach to the film,Jaws 2manages to be both stylistically flat and openly cynical about its commercial intentions. Of chief interest here is Scheider's performance, which wisely reflects the emotional fallout from Brody's last trauma in his obsessive behavior here.--Tom Keogh

(Minimalism at its most entertaining and intense!)
『It's interesting to think how "Duel" is the film that broke Steven Spielberg through and helped make him the household name he is today. "Duel" is a highly entertaining and suspenseful movie, and one thing that makes this movie so great is how minimalistic the whole thing is! Think about it; how many movies can you name where the whole film is basically one giant chase scene? Any movie that can pull such a feat off and be interesting all the way through is a surefire winner in my book, and "Duel", being such a movie, earns a spot amongst other classic horror/suspense movie that I've seen.

With so little to work with, it makes it that much easier to add detail to everything. Details that were worked to perfect include that of the truck: If you look, it has a railroad track with a bunch of license plates on it...hhmm, a giant truck with the license plates of other cars on its front. Yep, we have a serial killer on the loose! Speaking of which, I also find it curiously interesting that they never show the face of the truck driver, which highlights that the scariest thing about evil is the unknown factor behind it.

Overall, "Duel" is a feat that probably couldn't be pulled off by just any writer and still be as good as it is. "Duel" is a movie that will have you on the edge of your seat almost from the start, and all the way through to its heart-pumping, and satisfying, conclusion! Thanks for the time, and peace.』

『I love the movie, it brought back memories from the past when I first saw it, however, I ordered it thur your site from a different company that said they had them in stock, new, and the price was lower then yours, I ordered it and got a confirmation for the order but then then it came time to have it delivered I received a notice that they did not have it and that I could purchase it thru Amazon at a higher cost. I did that since I wanted the movie but felt I was being misled. A few weeks later I received an email from Amazon saying that I will be receiving a refund for the difference I paid for the film which I thought was wonderful customer service but I have not received anything so once again I think I was being misled. I do not think I will purchase anything from Amazon again because I believe they are not honest with the consumer.』

(Jaws on Wheels)
『Spielberg's classic directorial debut and a masterful performance by Dennis Weaver as "everyman" David Mann.

I probably re-watch this movie more than any other. It's amazing what a nugget of a story, along with a skilled lead actor and director, can do for a relatively small amount of money. Makes you realize what schlock we're usually subjected to nowadays.

My favorite scene is probably Chuck's Cafe. There's actually a real restaurant still there, but I think it's French now.

The DVD has some nice extras, including a couple interviews with Spielberg (normally reticent about his films) and one with writer Richard Matheson (famous for so many Twilight Zones).

CAN'T BEAT ME ON THE GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!

(ENDURING TV MOVIE CLASSIC IS A MUST SEE)
『DUEL is a riveting little psychodrama that glued me to my seat as a teenager back in the sweltering Seventies and still does. One of Steven Spielberg's early directorial efforts, it is a classic among TV movies. Simple story of a working family man just trying to drive his car across the barren dust-beaten rural Southwest following, then being followed, by a truck. Soon the truck is trying to drive the poor urbanite off the road. A cat-and-mouse game ensues until things get nasty and it becomes evident that getting killed is a distinct possibility. The goings on take place on a simple stretch of interstate highway. The visual menace is the imposing truck with its exhaust, its metal, its speed. The psychological menace is in the intent, the perceived motive, the senselessness, the isolation. Its driver is faceless---we see a boot here, a rear-view window reflection there, a glancing back-of-the-head shot there. The terror experienced by this poor guy was predominantly in the expansive, intangible universe of his mind where civilized common sense gave way to paranoia and then to rudimentary survival. The lead was played by the always underappreciated Dennis Weaver whose TREMENDOUS performance I will never forget. The scene where he is trying to outrun the truck , with his car's radiator overheating, struggling to get the faltering vehicle beyond the highway incline so that he can coast the rest of the way is memorable. The scene where he walks into a diner in a paranoid daze and surveys the farmers and truckers for possible complicity is a beaut. This was a tense, suspenseful, riveting TV movie and a classic one. Hopefully, it will actuate movie companies to put more of those lost but great late 60's and early-to-mid 70's TV movie gems out on DVD.

(Duel: Road Rage In High Gear. Awsome Thriller!)
『This is one of Steven Spielberg's earlier films. A innocent motorist played by Dennis Weaver mixes it up with a old horrific semi truck. As you listen to the thoughts of the innocent motorist who is trying to get away from the truck, the suspense and thrill of the chase set in.

The movie runs 90 minutes and is rated PG.

I found myself remaining seated wanting to see the whole thing through without interruption.

I have this movie in my personal DVD collection. It's a keeper!

『The unseen driver of a tailgating semi tries to run a traveling salesman off the road. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 02/08/2005 Starring: Dennis Weaver Eddie Firestone Run time: 88 minutes Rating: Pg Director: Steven Spielberg』
『This is the TV movie that put Steven Spielberg on the map, shortly before he madeThe Sugarland Express. Working from a script by Richard Matheson, the film stars Dennis Weaver as a mild-mannered traveling salesman who unintentionally angers the driver of a semi truck. Suddenly, the truck is not only riding his tail but trying to run him off the road. No matter what he does (pulling over, stopping at a diner, calling the cops), he can't get rid of it. Spielberg makes the wise decision of never showing the driver, even as he cranks the voltage on the film's suspense elements. As a result, the truck itself takes on an air of satanic menace--even a personality of sorts--as it seems to hunt its human prey. Spielberg made a lot out of a little, suggesting just how skilled a storyteller he would become.--Marshall Fine

(Subtitles info)
『For French buyers: it's not written on this site or on the box set, but THERE ARE French subtitles, of very good quality, available on these DVDs for all four films.
Enjoy 4 films of varying quality, every one of them worth watching (FRANKENSTEIN 1970 was a nice surprise), with crystal clear sound and picture, with the exception of THE WALKING DEAD which is a bit fuzzy around the edges, well it is also the older of the lot so it's very acceptable. No reviews of the films here, many users have done that and very well so! I enjoyed it all.』

(Karloff, Bela Lugois, and Peter Lorre! Need I say more?)
『I urge you to buy this collection for the movie "You'll find Out".

One dark and stormy night... there was this gorgous 40's horror-comedy.

WHO: A beautiful young heiress. A few classic "who-done-it" guests. Plus, swinging "Kay Kyser and his collage of musical knowledge."

WHERE: A huge spooky mansion cramed full of attractive young girl friends, stuffed tigers, african tribal masks, and looming tikis.

WHEN: A dark stormy night, and (of course) the only bridge leading to town, is blown up, or "...struck by lighting" as Boris explains. They are trapped.

THEN: introduce the Unholy Three: the greatest villains of the 40's era silver screen - Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Peter Lorre.

Lightning! Thunder! flickering Lights! Musical numbers! Spooky high camp fun.

Boris Karloff lurks from the shadows in his distinguished suave menacing best.

Lorre: ultra cool-creepy sleepy-eyed chain-smoking dangerously purrs and doubts the supernatural powers of Lugosi. So, what happens then?

WHAT? A Seance!

Bela: "Very well. For you I will do it. But, I must warn you... for those who scoff at their exsistance, the spirits consider no punishment too drastic!"

The seance is the show stopper scene of the film. Lugosi commands elaborate props, floating objects, the "fires of death", evil spirits! Wonderful!

A beautiful transfer. Some great sets, costumes, and 40's effects. I dare you to watch the seance scene and not smile: Lugosi goes into a trance while Kyser conducts his band with a glowing baton. Before "rock and roll" there was "big band" music. Kay Kyser was big on stage antics. He was the Kiss of the 40's. Karloff glares. Lorre smokes and plays detective. The art direction and "Kitch" factor are well off the scale on this one. Primo stuff for retro-film buffs.

The other big find in this collection is a rousing commentary for "Frankenstein 1970" by Bob Burns, Charlotte Austin, and Tom Weaver. What a delightful special feature! Lot's of behind the scenes stories, Hollywood memories, and even a discussion of the heart pounding "1952 Armed Forces Radio" Halloween "gag-that-almost-went-too-far" that was the core idea for this film. Very interesting stuff!

Well worth the money for these vintage treasures!

Buy it. Watch it. Love it.』

(Horror "Classics" is overstating it.)
『As others have pointed out, what you're really buying this set for is "The Walking Dead," a very nice little film (66 minutes)from 1936 starring Boris Karloff at the height of his horror-icon fame. The best of the many Karloff-back-from-the-dead revenge films,"The Walking Dead" is actually more of a supernatural mobster movie then a horror vehicle. But it's nicely photographed and is directed by Warner's any-genre ace Michael Curtiz, who later helmed "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and "Casablanca." Karloff gives a heartfelt performance and there are several familiar faces from the Warner stable in supporting roles. It's this film in this 2-disc set, that rates the 4 stars. "Frankenstein 1970" is a low-budget chiller from 1958(don't try to make sense of it)that is actually much better then I had remembered, thanks to a genuinely creepy opening scene and the presence of Karloff in the role of a Frankenstein descendent. The print, like all the prints in this set, is crisp and clean and as a bonus we get it in a striking widescreen version. "You'll Find Out" is essentially a Kay Kaiser comedy that gets a cred lift from the three horror heavies. You don't have to be smarter then Ish Kabibble to figure out who the bad guys turn out to be in this "Cat and the Canary"-ish mystery, but Karloff, Lugosi and Lorre each play it straight and that along with a pretty good seance scene makes it worth your time. "Zombies On Boadway" is like a poor man's version of an Abbott&Costello-meet-a-monster movie. If you like this kind of stuff then you won't be sorry you bought it. Happy Halloween』

(Fun for Fans, Families and Newbies on the Block!)
『I agree with those who feel that this two disc collection of four films featuring the two horror greats Karloff and Lugosi should NOT be subtitled "Horror Classics." None of the films are true "classics" and only two qualify as strictly "horror" and even that is debatable.

Having said that, these movies are fun! "The Walking Dead" directed by the versatile and famous Michael Curtiz is the best of the bunch and is a moody, thoughtful, quiet probing of the mysteries of Life and Death and Vengeance wherein the vengeance is quite Biblical in that the film actually fulfills the "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord" maxim. A greatly acted, paced, filmed, scored film. A quasi-classic.

The much-maligned "Frankenstein 1970" is due for another look-see - and we have it here, in pristine widescreen. Karloff doesn't walk through this one, as many people claim. I think his performance is extremely forceful and by turns frightening and tragic. (His soliloquy in the Frankenstein tomb is magnificent to watch being acted and paced and gesticulated perfectly by the horror Maestro.) The film, sadly, has a lousy, ridiculous monster....but the pluses outweigh the minues: the music score is terrific, the sets are filled with atmosphere and the beginning of this movie is arguably the scariest beginning to ANY horror film ever made. I won't spoil it for those who have not seen it: but suffice it to say, it is scaringly scored, atmospherically set and paced and the camera angles set the heart pounding. It is too bad that the film's frightening opening did not continue throughout the rest of the movie.

The other two films are comedies, more or less. Not side-splittingly funny, but the plotlines are interesting and the settings, again, are perfectly Halloweenish (especially in "You'll Find Out") and there are creepy moments in both films. The seance in "You'll Find Out" is quite weird, indeed. Karloff, Lugosi and Lorre play their parts to perfection and play them straight against the comedy of Kay Kyser and others. The zombies in "Zombies on Broadway" are also weird and could give youngsters nightmares!

Anyway - Halloween is at hand. Buy this set and you won't be disappointed. And these are movies that the whole family can enjoy. Trick or treat? Well, this dual DVD is much more treat than trick!』

(1 out of 4 aint bad ? Total lackluster set still might be worth getting)
『As a Karloff/Lugosi fan I was curious about getting this set, knowing that 3 of the movies Frankenstein 1970, Youll Find Out&Zombies on Broadway were all given less than stellar reviews..while The Walking Dead is supposed to be a great flick.
THE WALKING DEAD basically is about Boris Karloff coming back to life after being killed by electric shock in prison. He was accused of a murder which he didnt commit. He comes back to life and gets his revenge on those who have framed him. He is brought back to life from a doctor ( Edmund Gwenn who was Santa Claus in Miracle on 34th Street) This is a very good 1930s horror, where things were booming in the genre. Karloff is great as usual. This was a blend of gangsters with a touch of horror. If youve seen the Indestructible Man with Lon Chaney - it resembles that film in part , but The Walking Dead is much better. Karloff also did similar titles for Columbia like the Man with Nine Lives,etc..The transfer is pretty good - very good - it has signs of specs and age here and there but for a movie 60 years old it has held up pretty well..
FRANKENSTEIN 1970 - First off the transfer is GREAT and widescreen. In this Karloff is Dr. Frankenstein creating a monster using atomic energy. The cast is a really nothing special past Karloff and the film to me drags a little bit until the monster makes his grand appearance. The ending is pretty comical. This movie has been given some of the worst reviews ranging from Terrible to Awful to * star and well...I personally think the biggest die-hard 1950s schlock fans will enjoy it. I think there is a lot better cheese out there than this one ( Amazing Colossal Man, It Conquered the World)..it would have been a good Midnite Movie..
ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY - this was a ho-hum unfunny movie with Bela Lugosi as Dr Reanult working on making Zombies with an injection. Its about 2 Broadway agents (Alan Carney and Wally Brown forced to go an island to find zombies for a new nightclub called the Zombie Hut or something like that. The comedy duo gets into all kinds of mischief. They tried to be like Abbott&Costello but failed miserably. Tongue in Cheek with minimal horror elements. The zombies were creepy looking, but it didn't work for me in a comedy movie. The main zombie is the same guy from I walked with a Zombie which is far superior to this..
YOULL FIND OUT has Lugosi , Karloff and the great Peter Lorre spoofing the horror genre with musicals (no less than 5 numbers). UGH..Kay Kyser is the real star. No horror to be found here either. It's a real shame that this is called a horror set. The word horror is really stretched here (think Fox Horror Classics Volumes 1&2 )
Well overall I did find the transfers to be really good, the packaging was pretty good..2 discs with 2 movies apiece of them. This has some bonus features such as commentaries which these movies might be better to watch with.
Is it worth getting just to have the Walking Dead ? This is a question I am still pondering because the other movies, unless you are really, REALLY into camp and horror spoofs , these movies just wont capture your attention or hold your interest. I could envision watching these on a cold winter day when you aren't really feeling that good and just want to lie around and watch something that you can doze off on. Karloff/Lugosi completists will want to get this no matter what I would say :-)
Just like the Fox horror classics in Volume 2 I think the word 'Horror' is getting a stretch again here..
Basically if audio commentaries along with good to very good movie transfers outweigh 3 lousy movies on a 4 disc set this ones for you』

『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 10/06/2009 Run time: 327 minutes』
『Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi are the magic names when it comes to a bygone era of horror, and quite a bit of that magic is still afoot inKarloff&Lugosi Horror Classics, a two-disc, four-film set that gathers some of their lower-profile appearances. Karloff reigns supreme on the first disc, delivering a soulful performance in 1936'sThe Walking Dead, one of his life-after-execution pictures. Here Edmund Gwenn is the professor applying his reanimation technique to the unjustly electrocuted Karloff; revenge killings ensue--or is it karma? Michael Curtiz's energetic direction reminds you that he rarely phoned it in. Karloff takes on the Frankenstein family name (not the Monster garb) inFrankenstein 1970(1958), which allows him quite a long leash and more than a few doomy speeches. It gets off to a great start and has a promising "meta" setup (a movie crew is at the Frankenstein castle in order to get authentic atmosphere for their horror picture), but it falls off pretty badly.

The second disc boastsYou'll Find Out, a 1940 curiosity that not only brings Karloff and Lugosi together, but throws in Peter Lorre for an extra treat. With all that, who cares if the movie is really a vehicle for the popular radio personality Kay Kyser (and his "Kollege of Musical Knowledge")? Kyser's zany style, complete with sidekicks such as the ineffable Ish Kabibble, actually translates fairly well to the screen, and the movie cheerfully follows the blueprint of a screwball-paced haunted-house comedy. Even disappointed horror mavens will warm to the sight of Karloff, Lugosi, and Lorre huddled together, plotting no good.

Zombies on Broadwayis a 1945 B-picture that probably ought to be unwatchable, but in fact it's quite competent (director Gordon Douglas was a versatile pro) and often fun. The headliners are Wally Brown and Alan Carney, whose sub-Abbott and Costello repartee is generally painful, although one grave-digging joke pays off nicely. Lugosi has a meaty role as a Caribbean hoodoo doctor who creates zombies in his jungle laboratory (shades of hisWhite Zombiecharacter). The film was made at RKO, home to Val Lewton's legendary horror unit, and is actually something of a send-up of Lewton'sI Walked with a Zombie--complete with two ofIWWAZ's notable cast members, the looming revenant Darby Jones and honey-voiced calypso singer Sir Lancelot. For fans of the terror titans, a respectable set, even if the chills are scarce.--Robert Horton

(Not Perfect, But Deserves Full Support)
『I miss monster movies...This style of movie along with The Mummy, bring good fun back to horror movies. And while this movie isn't perfect, its intent is. A+ for courage to do something different.』

(got to get it)
『I have the movie on regular DVD, but have a playstation 3 now so all the good movies I'm getting on Blue Ray to catch the extra sound and picture quality. this movies does it all. Amazon has the best prices and with free shipping over $25 all is well. Keep up the good work Amazon.』

(Van Helsing)
『This movie had everything it held your attention from start to finish, the great thing about it was, every monster I had ever seen as a child was in this movie. No other movie has ever given us Dracula,Frankenstein, wolf Man and Mr. Hyde. It started old World and finished modern. I loved the take on James Bond gaget inventor who was not yet quite a priest and Van Helsing's guide. Your heart just went out to the Frankenstein monster. The story line was fantastic you understood what was going on the entire time . The visual effects was exciting, but i wanted Anna valeris brother who looked a lot like Errol Flynn ,to stay alive a little longer, and it would have been great if you could have seen them clearer in the clouds at the end . But as a whole this movie was spectacular.』

『Great movie and the product I recieved from Amazon was in excellent new condition. No problems enjoying my movie.』
『LEGENDARY MONSTER HUNTER VAN HELSING IS SUMMONED TO MYSTERIOUS TRANSYLVANIA ON A MISSION THAT WILL THRUST HIM INTO A SWEEPING BATTLE AGAINST THE FORCES OF DARKNESS!』
『Like a roller coaster ready to fly off its rails,Van Helsingrockets to maximum velocity and never slows down. Having earned blockbuster clout withThe MummyandThe Mummy Returns, writer-director Stephen Sommers once again plunders Universal's monster vault and pulls out all the stops for this mammoth $148-million action-adventure-horror-comedy, which opens (sanscredits) with a terrific black-and-white prologue that pays homage to the Universal horror classics that inspired it. The plot pits legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) against Dracula (the deliciously campy Richard Roxburgh), his deadly blood-sucking brides, and the Wolfman (Will Kemp) in a two-hour parade of outstanding special effects (980 in all) that turn Sommers' juvenile plot into a triple-overtime bonus for CGI animators. In alliance with a Transylvanian princess (Kate Beckinsale) and the Frankenstein monster (Shuler Hensley), Van Helsing must prevent Dracula from hatching his bat-winged progeny, and there's so much good-humored action that you're guaranteed to be thrilledandexhausted by the time the 10-minute end-credits roll. It's loud, obnoxious, filled with revisionist horror folklore, and aimed at addicted gamers and eight-year-olds, but this colossal monster mash (including Mr. Hyde, just for kicks) will never, everbore you. A sequel is virtually guaranteed.--Jeff Shannon

(Alien Fun)
『I love all 4 of the movies. The way the storyline follows the experince of one brave woman. It's great! The action, aliens, and stuff had me glued to the TV. I would tell everybody if they like syfy and action get these movies.
Sheila』

(Alien fans unite !)
『This is a 9 DVD box set. OVer 50 hours of bonus materials. Each Alien movie has its own disc and there is a bonus disc for each film. Every major Alien fan should own this box set. Has interviews with most of the actors and movie makers. My only complaint is the disc holders works like an accordian where you have to unfold entire side to get to either the first or last disc. Would have been nice to have a CD soundtrack "best of" all 4 films included.』

(Alien Quadrilogy)
『There are nine dvds in this boxed set. Each of the four movies (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection) comes with a dvd which explains how they made the film(s) and gives alternate endings. If you like being scared out of your wits, and if you're a Sigourney Weaver fan, and like to see new and innovated hideous creatures, this is the set for you! It comes in a beautiful fold out container contained within a box. Each dvd is very engaging in appearance and a true collector's item.』

(Alien Quadrilogy Box Set Review)
『This is truly one or the best box-sets that I've ever seen. It contains 9 DVD discs, 4 of which contain the 4 Alien movies in two versions, the theatrical release and a special edition release that true Alien fans will simply love. These 4 discs come with Audio in Spanish Stereo, English Stereo and English in Dolby Digital 5.1, subtitles in Spanish and English as well and all of them have the Audio Comments by the Directors.

When you watch the special editions of the films you have the possibility of knowing when a scene not included in the theatrical version is being shown, this is done by a special edition marker, definitely a feature rarely seen in other sets. There is a whole DVD disc packed with bonus material for each one of the four films. You get to see documentaries on the score, the special effects, the set making, the casting, they have stills and more. All is narrated by the producers, actors, directors and the people involved in the making of the films.

Besides all this, there is a 9th disc which has the theatrical trailers of all the movies, it contains the scrips and an excellent documentary about all the four films as well. The box completely open is over 1.80 meters long, has an exquisite green design and comes with a little guidance book.

I give 5 stars to this set because it has everything a collector's edition set should have, the Alien Quadrilogy box set is by all means money well spent.』

(Beautiful set. Fantastic Packaging.)
『This is a beautifully packaged disc set of all the Aliens movies. In fact, you get 2 of each movie plus lots of bonus materials. Simply a joy to go through the box due to the great packaging graphics. Fantastic!』
『Disc 1: Alien Collector?s Edition Disc 2: Aliens Collector?s Edition Disc 3: Alien 3 Collector?s Edition Disc 4: Alien Resurrection Collector?s Edition Disc 5: Bonus Disc』
『TheAlien Quadrilogyis a nine-disc boxed set devoted to the fourAlienfilms. Although previously available on DVD as theAlien Legacy, here they have been repackaged with vastly more extras and with upgraded sound and picture. For anyone who hasn't been in hypersleep for the last 25 years, this series needs no introduction, though for the first time each film now comes in both original and "special edition" form.

Alien(1979) was so perfect it didn't need fixing, and Ridley Scott's 2003 director's cut is fiddling for the sake of fiddling. Watch it once, then return to the majestic, perfectly paced original. Conversely, the special edition of James Cameron'sAliens(1986) is the definitive version, though it's nice to finally have the theatrical cut on DVD for comparison. Most interesting is the alternativeAlien 3(1992). This isn't a "director's cut"--David Fincher refused to have any involvement with this release--but a 1991 work-print that runs 29 minutes longer than the theatrical version, and has now been restored, remastered, and finished off with (unfortunately) cheap new CGI. Still, it's truly fascinating, offering a different insight into a flawed masterpiece. The expanded opening is visually breathtaking, the central firestorm is much longer, and a subplot involving Paul McGann's character adds considerable depth to story. The ending is also subtly but significantly different.Alien: Resurrection(1997) always was a mess with a handful of brilliant scenes, and the special edition just makes it eight minutes longer.

TheAlien Quadrilogyoffers the first and fourth films with DTS soundtracks, the others having still fine Dolby Digital 5.1 presentation. All four films sound fantastic, with much low-level detail revealed for the first time. Each is anamorphically enhanced at the correct original aspect ratio, and the prints and transfers are superlative. Every film offers a commentary track that lends insight into the creative process--though the Scott-only commentary and isolated music score from the firstAlienDVD release are missing here.

Each movie is complemented by a separate disc packed with hours of seriously detailed documentaries (all presented in full-screen with clips letterboxed), thousands of photos, production stills, and storyboards, giving a level of inside information for the dedicated buff only surpassed by theLord of the Ringsextended DVD sets. A ninth DVD compiles miscellaneous material, including an hourlong documentary and even all the extras from the oldAlienlaserdisc. "Exhaustive" hardly beings to describe theAlien Quadrilogy, a set that establishes the new DVD benchmark for retrospective releases and looks unlikely to be surpassed for some time.--Gary S. Dalkin

(Scary, Silly FUN!)

While the original was the best, all the TREMORS movies are FUN! Somewhat predictable and silly, but pure ENTERTAINMENT! That's what it's all about!』

(Love it!)
『I LOVE Tremors, 2, 3, and 4! I used to watch it whenever it was on the Sci Fi channel but now I own them and can watch them whenever I want! To me this is a definite classic! 5 stars all the way!!!!!』

(There're under the GROUND!)
『Imagine wandering through an ordinary American desert... when suddenly vibration-sensing giant worms erupt from the ground and eat you. That;s the "Tremors Attack Pack," which brings together all four movies from the delightfully dusty, gory and wildly bizarre cult movie series -- no pretensions, just good solid sci-fi/action.

In the original "Tremors," tired-hands Earl (Fred Ward) and Val (Kevin Bacon) are intent on getting out of the sun-baked, dead-end town of Perfection -- only to run afoul of a vast subterranean worm that sucks people down and eats them. Soon the entire town is being held hostage by these vibration-sensing "graboids," which are strong enough to rip apart the town. Now the guys must get the Perfectionites out of the town without being eaten by worms.

Six years afterwards, "Tremors 2: Aftershock" us to the embittered Earl, who is hired by the Mexican government to go graboid-hunting across the border. Helped out by dorky sidekick Grady (Christopher Gartin) and Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), Earl kills most of the graboids... until suddenly they mutate into two-legged, heat-sensing "shriekers." The remaining humans find themselves cornered by horrible little beasties that are as tenacious as graboids... but much more mobile.

"Tremors 3: Back to Perfection" jumps back to the town where it all started, now a sort of graboid tourist trap, complete with fake tours by "Desert Jack" Sawyer (Shawn Christian). But when graboids reappear, Burt is stopped from graboid-hunting by government agents who intend to protect the "oldest rarest endangered species of the planet." But there's an even more pressing problem: the shriekers have evolved into the final form: flying "ass-blasters."

"Tremors 4 - The Legend Begins" jumps back in time, to a dusty little western town that is practically deserted when someTHING kills the miners at the local silver mine. Its dandyish owner Hiram Gummer (Michael Gross) arrives to reopen the mine... but soon the remaining townsfolk find themselves facing a bunch of weird wormlike monsters (referred to as "dirt dragons") that rapidly grow into monsters. Do they abandon the town, or stand and fight?

The "Tremors" movies were all written by people with excellent senses of humor, and a knack for weaving up suspense over something as minor as walking over a floor. The last couple plots suffer a bit from sequelitis at times, but each movie is liberally strewn with freaky mutations, orange blood'n'guts, chases across the dusty desert, strong smart women, and a truck full of survivalist food. Oh, and enough explosions to level the Rocky Mountains, including a fun scene with an antiaircraft turret.

And there's plenty of excellent writing ("She said I couldn't handle life without the threat of global war... what kind of thing is that to say to a man?"), with an extremely quirky sense of humor (Earl and Val handle every problem, be it breakfast or suicide runs, by playing rock-paper-scissors). It's this tight writing and nimble sense of humor that keeps the "Tremors" movies from becoming yet another stale action movie.

Michael Gross ends up being the reigning champ in this series, and while the gun-obsessed survivalist Burt starts a bit cartoonish, he ends up a well-rounded, hilariously practical lead (while doubling as Burt's dandyish ancestor). Fred Ward is great as the grizzled'n'grumpy Earl, while Kevin Bacon is outstanding as Val. In fact, the cast of each movie is awesome -- Finn Carter, Helen Shaver, Shawn Christian, Reba McIntyre, August Schellenberg and Brent Roam all give especially good performances.

While the third and fourth films suffer a bit of sequelitis, "Tremors Attack Pack" is a fun, slimy and suspenseful race through graboid-infested deserts -- a must-see for cult movie fans.』

(Love Tremors)
『Number one I love Tremors so enough said. This is a great dvd series.
It definitely is full quality dvd set.
I often times wonder if Im getting a full quality dvd, or something that someone burned or copied themselves, when I buy a dvd online.
I would definitely recommend this set to anyone. Full quality and Its the entire series for a great low price.』

(Four worms in one)
『Tremors 1: Val and Earl are 2 handymen in an isolated little desert town. Tired of the place they decide to leave. However, they come across a dead body and return to report it. A man has climbed up a pole and died of thirst. Attached to their car they find something weird. At first they believe it's part of a snake, they will soon find that it's way more exotic. And deadly. The phones are dead, and soon the little town of Perfection, Nevada, discovers the killers, giant underground worms with a taste for meat. The worms are tough, strong and quite smart.
Enter survivalist couple Heather and Burt Gummer, who, prepared for commie invasion, have an entire arsenal of weapons. They're gonna need it...

Tremors 2: Aftershocks: Earl is invited to go graboid hunting in Mexico. At 50 000 $ per worm, he thinks it's a sweet deal. He quickly realises he's in too deep and he contacts Burt Gummer. Together they find that the graboids have a surprise for them. The graboids are changing...

Tremors 3: Back to Perfection: Burt has been in South America hunting graboids. As he returns to Perfection, he finds that a lot has changed. Jodi, niece of merchant Walter who died in T1, has turned the store into a graboid themed shop. A new character, Desert Jack, takes tourists on graboid safari. And Mel, who was a teenager in T1, has returned and wants to build condos in the desert.
No one has seen the worms for 11 years. Now they return. No longer cut off from the world, the citizens of Perfection contact the authorities. The worms being big desert reptiles, become protected under the laws regarding conservation of species, and illegal to kill. Which also means that Mel can't develop the land, to Perfection's joy.
The worms start developing into shriekers, but the shriekers aren't the final stage in the graboids' evolution.
This movie introduces Desert Jack, Jodi and El Blanco, who were so important in the TV series.

Tremors 4: the legend begins: the year is 1889. In the small mining town in Rejection, Nevada, some eggs hatch... And soon miners start dying. Enter Hiram Gummer, mine owner and...wimp.
It's a hoot to see the ancestors of the main characters from T1 - T3, how they interact and how they ended up in this little desert town. Not to mention the beginning of the graboids!

All 4 Tremors movies are great. They're exciting, entertaining and fun. Part horror, part splatter, part comedy, part monster movie, I have seen all 4 several times and I haven't tired of them yet. In fact, I'm hungry for more!
All the main characters are quite eccentric, without making it stupid, adding to the entertainment value. Each movie reveals something new about the worms.

I highly recommend this collection.

『Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward star as two country handymen who lead a cast of zany characters to safety in this exciting sci-fi creature comedy. Just as Val McKee (Bacon) and Earl Basset (Ward) decide to leave Perfection, Nevada, strange rumblings prevent their departure. With the help of a shapely seismology student (Finn Carter), they discover their desolate town is infested with gigantic man-eating creatures that live below the ground. The race is on to overcome these slimy subterraneans and find a way to higher ground, in this enjoyable thriller co-starring Michael Gross and Reba McEntire.

They’re back! The giant underground creatures that terrorized a desert town in Tremors are now plowing their way through Mexican oil fields, gobbling up everything and everyone around-and only one man can stop them! In the style of its predecessor, this comedy sci-fi creature feature reunites Fred Ward as down-on-his-luck Earl Basset and Michael Gross as gung-ho survivalist Burt Gummer, two desert desperados who take on the task of destroying the monsters. Partnered with them is Christopher Gartin, a young guy in need of kicks, cash, and a career change, and Helen Shaver, a sexy and intrepid scientist who’s seen it all…until now. Together they devise an ingenious plan for tracking and killing the creatures. Tremors 2 is filled with high-speed action and plenty of laughs-until the predators wise up.

Those morphing, man-eating monsters are shaking things up again in the dusty little town of Perfection, Nevada– and survivalist Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) is the only solution to the latest in evolution! Aided by a couple of young local entrepreneurs (Shawn Christian and Susan Chuang), Burt pits his impressive knowledge of weaponry against the newest and deadliest generation of Graboids. If Burt and hisnew partners can’t find a way to stop them, then the creatures that put Perfection on the map will wipe it right off the face of the earth. Tremors 3 promises earth-shaking, explosive, edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

Get ready to be shaken to your core by the all-new prequel to the original Tremors! When workers in a remote mining town of Rejection, Nevada, fall prey to an unseen creature, the mine’s owner, Hiram Gummer (Michael Gross), great-grandfather to Tremors’ Burt Gummer, hires a mercenary to destroy the carnivorous creatures before they swallow up his profits. What follows is an all-out assault that takes the battleground from deep in the earth to a suspense-filled showdown on thestreets of Rejection! Tremors 4:The Legend Begins will thrill you with incredible action sequences, awesome bonus features and earth-shaking special effects created by the award-winning team behind the original box-office hit, Tremors.』

(A classic on Blu-Ray)
『All I can say is that Creepshow is a classic and got it's due on Blu-Ray.
The picture was great for a 25 plus year old film, and I hope that Blu-Ray keeps releasing them.』

(Great Movie But No Blu-ray Extras)
『I've always been a fan of the original Creepshow movie. Classic scares with a wicked sense of humor and some great star power. The sfx are lodged in the '80s but were no means cheesy for the time period. The movie looks great in hi-def but I would liked to have seen a few more extras beyond the theatrical trailer. If you are a fan of the film or enjoy a fun scare then this film is for you.』

(My favorite horror movie, but could've been a better blu ray)
『I love Creepshow, it's my favorite horror movie, but I was disappointed there weren't more extras in the blu ray, since there weren't any real extras on the DVD from 10 years ago. You'd think with blu ray's capacity they'd include much more extras than the DVD, but it didn't happen, so that's the only reason I didn't give this five stars. The movie itself is awesome, even better in high def than on the old DVD.』

(A Blu-Ray injustice to Creepshow fans!)
『First of all, let me explain that the TWO-STAR rating I've given this, the Blu-Ray DVD version of Creepshow, is only for the DVD itself. The movie, which is one of my all-time favorite horror flicks is definately a FIVE-STAR piece of movie-making!

This Blu-Ray disc, as others have found, is a great disappointment. The video transfer is fair at best. I did an A/B comparision between this disc and the regular DVD on two Blu-Ray players with an HD 32" television and I see very little difference.

But what's worse, the only extra is the trailer. Now here's the real injustice to Creepshow fans: There is an excellent 2 Disc DVD Special Edition available from the United Kingdom. The first Disc contains the full-length film. But unlike the American DVD release, there's an audio commentary throughout the feature with George Romero and master make-up artist Tom Savini. And in addition to the 2.0 stereo sound, there's also a 5.1 surround soundtrack! The second disc is filled with a multitude of extras! First, there's a 90 minute feature "Just Desserts--The Making of Creepshow." It's loaded with interviews with George Romero, Tom Savini, and many other cast and crew members. Also included are deleted scenes, alternate takes and bloopers. Next, there's behind-the-scenes footage personally filmed by Tom Savini. Finally, there's a stills gallery and of course the trailer.

The entire package comes in a clear standard keep case which is contained in an outer cardboard slipcase! Now, if you didn't already realize, here's the bad news: Since this is a European release, it is in the PAL television format, Region 2. It is also very unlikely that any of these extras will ever be available here in the U.S. because Universal Home Video owns the rights to everything in the U.K. not Warner Brothers; actually the 90 minute featurette appears to have been assembled by Universal and is introduced as Universal Presents... I doubt Warner Brothers will ever strike up a deal with Universal to bring these features to us fans in America; they missed their chance for this Blu-Ray release.

If you have a region code free DVD player and a PAL to NTSC television converter, go to Amazon.uk and order this package. It's well worth it!!』

(Remind me to get the insect repellent!)
『Well, considering it's the month of Halloween, I figure I better catch up on my horror reviews. "Creepshow" is an anthology movie from the genius minds of both Stephen King and George Romero, containing several horror-comedy episodes, all at around 20 minutes or so. To this day, such an idea hasn't been done that often, and considering how novel it was at the time it was made, Romero and King pull this off very well. All the stories are entertaining and chilling, and the last one, if you have insectophobia, will be quite a shocker! For a fun and chilling way to spend your Friday night, enter the Creepshow! Thanks for the time, and peace.』
『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/08/2009 Run time: 134 minutes Rating: Pg13』
『Inspired by the controversial E.C. Comics of the 1950s--which also provided the title and inspiration for the popularTales from the CryptTV series--director George Romero and screenwriter Stephen King serve up five delightfully frightful stories. Utilizing comic-book panels, animated segues, and exaggerated lighting and camera angles, Romero and cinematographer Michael Gornick come very close to replicating a horror comic in film format. The results mix fine acting with the morbid sense of humor and irony that made the E.C. books so popular in their heyday. Actors such as Leslie Nielsen, Hal Holbrook, Ted Danson, Adrienne Barbeau, Ed Harris, E.G. Marshall, and even King appear in the stories, which include tales of a sinister father's day celebration, a mysterious meteor, seaweed-draped zombies, a monster in a crate, and a cockroach-phobic millionaire. Fiendishly fun fare from one of horror's most famous directors.--Bryan Reesman

(Loved it!)
『I loved this movie and it has a twist you won't expect at the end! Emily Browning is a beautiful and talented actress and I am very glad she took this role! Definitely rent this if you won't buy it!』

(Worth watching twice)
『After the fire, everything seems to have changed. The woman that was supposed to watch over the matriarch of the family is now in the arms of the father, and the daughter coming home finds this disturbing. Worse still is the mystery of the night itself - what happened, how it happened, who caused it - there seem to be a thousand questions spinning like a loom in her mind. This leads her to question everything and everyone, and to wonder why she keeps seeing her dead mother, looking at her and pointing out the window to the tune of one word: "murderer."

The first time I watched The Uninvited, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. There are twists and turns that are unexpected, people that seem like horrid only to be victims, and terrible calamities that await anyone caught in this unexpected maelstrom. The dead are not quite in this movie, either, making their presence known as they piece together things that a broken memory does not contain. Still, things are not what they seem and, at the end of the movie, the tune sung is not what I expected. I liked that - being surprised for a change - because most movies are easy to figure out. This one can be figure out if a person sets out to do it as well, but the horrific camouflage that hides the plot is thick enough to keep one from guessing the true ending.

Another great thing about this movie is the first time you watch it with all the answers in your pocket. This casts a strange light on everything and shows you just how much your implied sensibilities make you guess at the answers you think you have. In truth, I enjoyed doing this more than anything, and I say this because it shows the characters without the smokescreen they throw up. This makes for an interesting showing, not better than the movie the first time around but great nonetheless, and made me happy that had the chance to scan the show once more.

If you like your horror creepy, then you'll enjoy this. It has some terrible parts inside the storyline, with bodies snapping to stand and terrors limping across the floor to make contact with our main character. In some places I actually felt for her, and this made me all-the-more happy when I watched it on the second go. If you are thinking, "I should skip this because it's a modern movie," then you would also be wrong. It appeals to a range of people that enjoy movies both new and old, and even took me - an old school horror junkie - for a nice little ride. While it has its points of horror it is also a psychological tale, and the feeling that you get at first, thinking you have the answers, is a deceptive one. I recommend at least watching it twice, just to get the feel of knowing and then not really knowing, just to show you how well the actors did in their roles. Normally I would not recommend a new-school movie, either, but this is one that I think is worthy of praise.

("Poor little Anna... you're not gonna ruin this for me.")
『This was a great movie! I wish they renamed the title of A Tale of Two Sisters. Because it did remind me of that movie while I was watching it. I love Emily Browning in this movie! She is my favorite actress. I would love to meet her one day. What I liked about this movie was that it did have some differences from A Tale of Two Sisters. The only difference was that there was no dinner scene. If you saw A Tale of Two Sisters, then you know what I'm talking about. This movie was great! I loved it!』

(Great movie!)
『I was so relieved that this American version of The Uninvited was not patterned after the Asian film of the same name, but rather after the Asian film A Tale of Two Sisters. The Asian version of The Univited was long, not frightening, and entirely too boring. The Asian film A Tale of Two Sisters was very engrossing, only there were some variances in culture, which I am not well versed in. This version of The Uninvited begins with Anna being released from a mental institution in much better condition that the girl in the Asian film. She is trying to remember the events that took place the night of the fire in which her mother died. Her father has written a book and dedicated it to Anna and her sister Alex. He also surprises her by saying that he has taken up with her mother's former nurse Rachel and later tells her of his plans to marry her. Right from the start, Anna is suspicious of Rachel, feeling that she is somehow involved in her mother's death. If you have seen the Asian film A Tale of Two Sisters, then you will know what plot twist is to come. Alex tries talking to her father about Rachel, but he doesn't seem to hear her. They even managed to include the strange under-the-sink scene, which I consider to be THE MOST STARTLING SCENE OF ANY MOVIE I have seen up until now. I knew it was coming, but I still jumped. Little bits of information come together by the end to make for a perfect Hitchcockian ending.』

(The Uninvited)
『Very good suspense movie, I would recommend to those who enjoy that type of movie. A twist a the end that is surprising, like the movie Sixth Sense.』
『FOLLOWING THE SUSPICIOUS DEATH OF THEIR MOTHER, SISTERS ANNA AND ALEX BECOME ENTANGLED IN A DEADLY BATTLE OF WILLS WHEN THEIR FATHER BECOMES ENGAGED TO RACHEL, THEIR MOTHERS FORMER CARETAKER.』
『The china-doll features of Emily Browning (A Series of Unfortunate Events) are the eerie center ofThe Uninvited, an American remake of the wildly popular Korean horror filmA Tale of Two Sisters. Browning stars as Anna, a young girl being released from a mental hospital following the harrowing death of her mother. But when she returns home, she discovers her father (David Strathairn) has fallen under the sexual spell of her mother's former nurse, Rachael (Elizabeth Banks,Zack and Miri Make a Porno), despite the open hostility of Anna's sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel,John Tucker Must Die). When Anna sees the ghost of her mother point at Rachael and scream "Murder!", Anna and Alex begin to investigate Rachael's past and make some unsettling discoveries. The Uninvitedcombines two horror trends: Twist endings (in this case, more than one) and recycling Asian horror images (particularly wet, crawling corpses). There's nothing particularly outstanding aboutThe Uninvited, but it's superior to more lackluster Asian horror remakes likeOne Missed Call. The three lead actresses all have strangely glossy faces that look molded out of plastic, which adds a perhaps unintentional layer of creepiness.--Bret Fetzer

『REVIEW OF: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (TWO-DISC ULTIMATE EDITION)

7.4 THE FILM ITSELF
7.7 VISUALS
8.2 SOUND
8.5 PACKAGING
9.0 EXTRAS

Let's get this out of the way immediately - I'm not a big fan of this film, the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But for this Ultimate Edition, fans will find alot to love here. The one major standout of the film is the atmosphere. There's always an odd, creepy, almost like someone is watching you at all times feel which creeps you out. Especially when you're in the middle of nowhere in Texas.

But, I won't review the film because so many other people have already done that. I'll simply say that I was impressed by the lack of gore or blood, which too many movies these days rely on, and the simple fact that this movie has no message or good-feeling story or ending makes me happy as well. Too many horror movies try to throw in a cheesy love story (like the 2003 remake) or make a point. The only point here is that some people are simply evil, deranged and want you dead. That's what Leatherface wants.

7.7 VISUALS
For being as old as it is (1979 I believe?) this film looks pretty damn good. It isn't perfect by any means, but I don't think it should. Filmed on a low budget, why would it look like a million dollar production? And besides, that would ruin the feel of the film.

8.2 SOUND
Not much in terms of music or a soundtrack, so this is mainly based off dialogue and how everything sounds. Aside from the absolutely annoying Franklin, this is impressive for the technology they were using.

8.5 PACKAGING
I personally love the cover of this two-disc steel booklet DVD. The inside picture is "iconic" to the film. My only major complaint is how the discs are placed on top of each other, and the annoying music on the main menus, but otherwise this is well presented.

9.0 EXTRAS
Disc one comes with two commentaries. One is members of the cast, while the second is Director Tobe Hooper, Leatherface himself Gunnar Hansen, along with the main writer of the film. Both commentaries are great for getting information about the film, the production and the backstories. Diehard fans will surely find alot to enjoy in these two commentaries.

Disc two starts off with "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth" Documentary which is a greatly detailed look at the film, and talks with numerous individuals about the film and the legendary status it has now reached.

The next feature is the "Flesh Wounds" documentary which plays out alot like "The Shocking Truth", but covers some different ground in the history of the film. What's great about these documentaries is learning how Hooper ran out of money and had to sell rights of the film just to finish the film. Depressing realization, but it's these honest facts that I love. And learning about the money issues is refreshing compared to most bonus features where everything praises one another.

"A Tour of the TCSM House with Gunnar Hansen" was kind of a disappointment. I thought this would be done while the house was still all set up, but the walkthrough is while the house is used as some sort of a B&B. And all Hansen does is recount where certain items were in certain rooms.

"Blooper Reel" isn't even a damn blooper reel. It's a few minutes of characters wandering through the woods (if I remember correctly) and that's it. Odd, to say the least.

"Outtakes from the Shocking Truth" is about 3 minutes of a scene that was cut from the documentary. Why? Why not just leave it in? This is just a fluff piece to add to the bonus features. Obviously you didn't have a time limit since it's on here anyway, why not just leave it in? Extra features of extra features seem just wrong.

"Dr. W.E. Barnes presents 'Making Grandpa'" is a series of photos that show the makeup of grandpa. I was let down by this feature because I didn't think it was just going to be pictures, but still decent nonetheless.

"Still Gallery". This is probably the best still gallery I have ever seen. Great photos from the filming and posters promoting the picture (most are in French however) will take those old enough to remember when the film first came out on a nostalgia trip. Some great pics here.

IN CLOSING
I wasn't a huge fan of the film, but I respect what this set has to offer. Fans of the film will find two great commentaries along with two great 60-plus minute documentaries that tell a great deal about the making of the film and tons of shocking information. The rest of the features may be nothing great, but these alone and a film many hold high as a classic will make this a great addition to their personal collection.

8.5/10 "GREAT"』

(AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
『One of the best Horror films ever! Also the one that began it all. This was one amazing movie that scared the living hell out of me and i loved how sick and twisted it was. The special features disc had an interesting documentary. I could not believe what theye went through to make this, but... they did it and they did it good. I would like to mention this masterpieces sequals as well in this review. The 2nt movie was also awesome and funny. The third movie (although i am confused as to how it could be connected) is really cool. the director in the special features should call a movie he made that good a mess, He should be happy with it. the fourth movie was...wierd. Very wierd but not as bad as people say (seriously). It was somewhat funny. and as for the third movie, i think the people in it are like...maybe...leatherface's relatives who are..like....also cannibals and they take him in or something after chop-top and the cook died. Thats my theory, anyway. but anyway, this the original was one of the best and gory horror films ever.GO TCM, GO LEATHERFACE ,AHHHHHHH!!!end-』

(The film that brought bloody, violent horror to the mainstream.)
『Many people have said that the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre was influential to later horror movies and it has been called "the movie that redefined horror". All of this is true, of course, but there were so-called 'B movies' in the 60s that were shown mainly at drive-in theaters, which were also very bloody. However, TCSM was the film that brought this bloody style to the mainstream, having been shown at regular theaters nationwide. It also introduced the first real horror-movie icon. Leatherface, the star of this movie, came years before the likes of Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, and Michael Myers. This movie also invented the now-cliched theme of 'young people being chased by a murderer' that can be found in more recent movies like Scream, and while TCSM might seem tame by today's standards, in 1974 it was the most shocking movie anyone had ever seen. It was called "grisly, sick, and perverse" and was attacked by churches and even banned by certain governments, but never-the-less became a horror classic. TCSM is a short but sweet movie that wastes no time getting into the action. The opening scene shows the discovery of a shocking crime in rural Texas, where the local graveyard has been disturbed. Corpses have been exhumed and mutilated and certain body parts have been stolen. But that's just the beginning. Soon, a group of five young men and women drive to this town because a relative was buried there. But when their van runs out of gas they find themselves stuck in the middle of nowhere and one by one they meet their fate at the hands of a literally crazy family that kills for fun and decorates their house with human flesh and bone, which is what real-life serial killer Ed Gein did. The main killer in the family (the one who uses a chainsaw), even wears a mask made of dead flesh, and is therefore known as Leatherface. This idea of a dead skin mask was used in The Silence Of The Lambs and in 1990 Slayer wrote a song called Dead Skin Mask, which was inspired by both Ed Gein and TCSM. Clearly, this movie has had a huge impact and according to Entertainment Weekly it's "even more terrifying 35 years later". The only reason I give TCSM 4 stars is because it could have been more bloody and graphic, but I still appreciate it for laying the blueprint for future horror flicks and I'm not forgetting that it was made in 1974. This 2-disc Ultimate Edition contains too many bonus features to mention, but I must say that the feature film is beautifully restored and remastered, which is most noticeable when you compare the movie to the theatrical trailers. This DVD is essential to any horror fan's collection.』

(Why such a price cut?)
『I really love the ultimate edition, i remember when i was 13 (now 26) i watched this as a rental VHS over at a Halloween party, i picked this new edition from dark sky films up at Wal mart during the Month of October for only 5 dollars, i am happy and shocked they cut the price about 15 dollars off, is it only for the month of October or forever? Anyways i am happy with my purchase. (Spoiler: Also glad to see the house is still intact after all these years.) Anyone that is a fan of horror and doesnt have this in there collection hurry up and get it now before its gone at this great deal.』

It has been called "grisly," "sick," and "perverse," as well as "raw," "unshakeable," and "the movie that redefined horror." It was attacked by churches, banned by governments, and acclaimed by only the bravest of critics. It stunned audiences worldwide and set a new standard in movie terror forever. In 1974, writer-producer-directorTobe Hooperunleashed this dark, visionary tale about a group of five young friends who face a nightmare of torment at the hands of a depraved Texas clan. Today it remains unequaled as a landmark of outlaw filmmaking and unparalleled in its impact as perhaps the most frightening motion picture ever made.

  • 『This sensational, extremely influential, 1974 low-budget horror movie directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist,Lifeforce,Salem's Lot), may be notorious for its title, but it's also a damn fine piece of moviemaking. And it's blood-curdling scary, too. Loosely based on the true crimes of Ed Gein (also a partial inspiration forPsycho), the original Jeffrey Dahmer,Texas Chainsaw Massacrefollows a group of teenagers who pick up a hitchhiker and wind up in a backwoods horror chamber where they're held captive, tortured, chopped up, and impaled on meat hooks by a demented cannibalistic family, including a character known as Leatherface who maniacally wields one helluva chainsaw. The movie's powerful sense of dread is heightened by its grainy, semi-documentary style--but it also has a wicked sense of humor (and not that camp, self-referential variety that became so tiresome in subsequent horror films of the '70s, '80s, and '90s). OK, in case you couldn't tell, it's "not for everyone." But as a landmark in the development of the horror/slasher genre, it ranks withPsycho,Halloween, andA Nightmare on Elm Street.--Jim Emerson
