(Not the best...)
『I seriously hate to say it, but this season of Angel isn't so great. It has a few pretty good episodes (Spin the Bottle, Soulless, Salvage, Release, and Orpheus)but other than that it's kinda dim. Connor totally sucked, his whole deal got old in like 5 minutes. He was much more likable in his appearances in season 5. Poor Cordelia's character was ravaged by the writers...I mean Cordelia did to Angel what Spike did for Buffy, the whole comic relief in otherwise seemingly hopeless situations is a key part of both shows. I don't even understand why they wanted to turn Cordelia into a "big bad" anyway, this season surely had enough. Jasmine, the Beast, Angelus, Connor, and Cordy? It's just too much, and aside from Angelus, all of these character's and they're plots don't compare to any of the previous villains. While this season seems bleak, it would be hard to understand season 5 without it, and the good episodes in it are worth owning the season, especially if your a spaz, like me, and want them all.』

(Angel Season IV)
『This DVD set arrived promptly and in excellent condition. This series is super for vampire fans!』

(UNDER RATED)
『I actually liked the plot of season 4. I think it would have been the perfect end (and if you're watching this series for the first time LET IT BE! Season 5 was HORRIBLE! They may have butchered my favorite Angel character (Cordy) in this season, but in season 5 they butcher them all (and the show. It's an entirely different show). Not even Spike could save that season, becasue they butchered his character too...But back to season 4. If you like really dark type shows and movies you'll like this season. It's the darkest of the 4. Angel is an entertaining character as Angelus (they get MUCH more into Angelus in this season then they ever did on Buffy) the only thing is that the Angelus worship in the vampire community is really annoying...Faith comes back and gets to step out of Buffy's shaddow and shine. Willow comes back and the interaction between her and Fred is really funny... The whole season is like the final movie in a series (like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter for example). The only bad things I have to say is if you are a huge Angel/Cordy fan you'll be broken hearted. It's a great season in my book but I'm warning you it's a sad ending for them.』

(Darker, and a little soapier)
『In its fourth season, Angel gets a little more like a soap opera. The season only has one or two stand alone episodes. Most are about the central arc following the Connor story line. It has more of a horror movie feel with scary music leading up to things jumping out of corners. I think season four is my least favorite of Angel, but still worth it for a fan.』

(drama!)
『the most dramatic season of all! wow. the relationships that developed actually made me feel sick. just read the summaries of the episodes and you'll see what i mean.
If you are into drama though, this season will suit you.』

『With both Angel and Cordelia still missing, Fred, Gunn and Connor try to keep Angel Investigations running while they search for their friends. Ironically, the man who everyone believes betrayed Angel is the one who finally comes to Angel's rescue. Then Cordelia mysteriously reappears with no memory of her life or her friends. Confused, she chooses to take refuge with Connor?setting into motion events that will alter their lives forever.』
『As the fourth season ofAngelstarts, everything is still as we left it: Angel has been sunk to the bottom of the sea in an iron box by his inexplicable and vindictive son Connor and Cordelia has been summoned to higher realms to await orders. Gunn and Fred are left in the Hyperion Hotel, unsure about what has happened to their friends, and Lilah is working hard to seduce Wesley to the dark side. In the first few episodes, some of this is resolved but it's almost immediately replaced by far worse crises: prophesies of doom accumulate more rapidly even than usual in this wonderfully gloomy show and a horned rock-like beast rains fire on Los Angeles. This last year isAngel's most tightly dramatic season yet--with a story arc of surprising intensity punctuated by the show's usual wit and sexiness.

Season 4 is presented on DVD in Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound and anamorphic widescreen. It comes with insightful, and often hilarious, commentaries on seven of the 22 episodes as well as featurettes--a series overview, profiles of the characters of Jasmine and the Beast, a farewell to the Hyperion Hotel (the characters' base for three seasons), and a discussion of the apocalypse that Angel has to deal with from episode 7 onwards).--Roz Kaveney

『Must have for all Angel fans. Fun just to relive some of these episodes and the additional features are great too』

(A-OK)
『Half of one episode was messed up but it most likely had nothing to do with the seller. Package was sealed and brand spankin' new.』

(A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
『Season 2 and 3 are the best seasons of the series. They are must haves』

(Great Show wonderful series.)
『I like this show, I have all 5 seasons you never know what is gonna happen in this series, good guys die come back dont come back, vampires ghosts you never know. I fine it different from most shows where you can guess the ending this one you cant.』

(Slim Set means..............)
『I had season 3- 5 but then a couple weeks ago they offered by one get one TV DvD sets so I finally got season 1 and 2 of Angel.

Original release of this DVD meant unfolding 4 pages of a terribly cumbersome set.

Then they went to what I thought was the "slimset" which was individual cases for every other disc. That is nice too. First time I saw that was with the seasons of Arrested Development Season discs. This is not that.

Slimset in this case means one DVD case that has 6 easy to access discs. Best yet. If you are looking to buy Angel dvds, get the slimset.

Per usual delivery was fast and free (I love super saving shipping!).』

『Angel continues to seek redemption, but a fatal mistake makes him realize that racking up the body count isn’t the way to go. So with a renewed sense of purpose and Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn at his side, Angel sets out to make the streets of Los Angeles a little safer for everyone – unaware that Wolfram&Hart has summoned someone from his past to make sure he fails.』
『The second season ofAngelsaw the cult vampire show finally stand on its own fromBuffy the Vampire Slayer, assembling all the members of the show's core cast, transferring the action to a fashionably run-down L.A. hotel, and bringing in a fewBuffycharacters from Angel's history to further establish the moody vampire's own mythology. Moving their Angel Investigations to posher digs, Angel (David Boreanaz), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), and Wesley (Alexis Denisof) were soon joined by street fighter (J. August Richards)–-and by street fighter, of course we mean demon street fighter. But just as this group was solidifying, up popped Angel's old love, Darla (the fantastic Julie Benz), freshly arrived in L.A. from a hell dimension… just in time to be turned into a vampire again by her old cohort, Drusilla (JulietLandau), and lure Angel into abandoning his newly formed team. It was the best and worst of times forAngelin its second year, for while the basis was being set for the show's stellar third and fourth seasons, dramatic tension was diluted by Angel's going solo and the necessary (but plot-debilitating) flashbacks to various points in Angel's history. However, just when it seemed everything was about to fly out the window,Angel's creative team threw its characters for a loop--literally--by transporting them to the demon dimension of Pylea, a medieval-style fantasyland populated by monsters and humans alike. It shouldn't have worked, as hokey as it was... but it did, thanks to crack storytelling, sharp dialogue, and the sheer joy the actors unleashed, especially the gifted and fiendishly funny Carpenter. The second half of the season also saw the addition of two ofAngel's best characters: the horned Lorne (Andy Hallett), a green demon with a penchant for karaoke, and Fred (Amy Acker), a physicist trapped in Pylea who helped the gang engineer their escape. With these two in tow,Angelbegan to soar. --Mark Englehart

(Give this guy a chainsaw and you've got some serious mayhem!)
『The Texas Chainsaw Massacre may not be one of my personal favorite horror films, but MAN is it good! This is the ultimate independent horror film that defined the slasher genre. You know the basic premise: it's about a psycho named Letherface and his chainsaw. It seems like a simple plot, but you should take a look at what he and his friends do with his victims. I won't spoil anything for you, but I will tell you that almost every horror fan adores this one. The scenario is simple but superior to those of more recent horror flicks: a group of young people need gas, so they search for some....and that's when the notorious Leatherface comes in. Gore is minimal, but take a look at all the bones! And the protagonists.....well, that's the only problem I have with this movie. The good guys/girls are very annoying. I couldn't care for them, especially Sally&Franklin Hardesty. When they get to the house where Leatherface dwells, these two cannot stop screaming and arguing. Franklin keeps talking, and Sally keeps screaming. Sally is much worse than Franklin, because all she does in the second half of the film is scream and scream and SCREAM! I know we're supposed to root for the protagonists, but honestly I was actually rooting for Leatherface rather than her. Fortunately, that's the only flaw in this movie. I had a really good time with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's not one of my personal favorites, but I can still see why it's a cult classic all these years.

Grade: B (due to the unlikable protagonists)』

(All Time Classic)
『The first, the best, I would hope if you are a horror movie fan that you have already seen this amazing masterpiece. But if you havent, let me tell you about it.
Made by Tobe Hooper back in 74' this is the story of a group of kids who go to visit there grandparents grave because they heard that there were grave robings going on in that part of Texas. Two people from the group stumble into this old farm house to see if they had any gas for there van. But danger lurks just inside the old farm house. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is out and he is hungry. Can the group of kids make it out alive from this night of fear.
If you are a fan of any horror movies check this out. They remade this movie but this classic one is better "I think" Pick it up at amazon.』

(A Truely Disturbing Film I Believe is Culturally Significant to American Cinema.)
『The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a film made by Tobe Hooper, back in his early film directing days in the 1970s, before later making The Poltergeist. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is very low budget and was filmed on 16mm cameras. Tobe thought of going for a PG rating under the film title Headcheese. Despite the nearly bloodless film, a PG rating was not possible and a R rating was smacked on instead. After the release of the film audiences were shocked, the film was criticized, and banned in other countries. Though the film sparked controversy, it pulled in alot of money in the millions(I believe over 30 million), even making it the highest grossing independent film(don't know if that's still fact).

Darksky Films released the film as the Ultimate Edition in a steelbook with two discs. The film is fully remastered and restored using the original 16mm transfers, new 5.1 surround, new 2.0 stereo, and original remastered mono. Has specials like commentaries, trailers, TV/radio spots, documentaries, deleted scenes, outtakes, bloopers, and stills. The combination of the special features run over 180 minutes.

The film is about a group of friends including siblings out on a road trip through Texas of course. Though not all is known about where they are going but one reason is looking to see if relatives were graverobbed in a cemetery. The group pick up a strange hitchhiker. The hitchhiker becomes violent and is kicked out. The group, except for one of them, try to brush off the experience and later go to an old house. Leatherface is not friendly to people looking for help and punishes trespassers.

I cringed at this movie and laughed too. The movie's disturbing factor isn't really by the violence, it's by the tormenting on the protagonist. The antagonists torment the protagonist so bad the audience feels it. The blood and gore is minimal and offscreen but the audience strongly implies what's offscreen. The movie too has dark comedy. There is funny dialogue and slapstick in the beginning. Even the antagonists try to be funny by abusing each other for their ignorance.

I have seen the sequels and remakes. Some good and some bad. They all differed by the changing balance of comedy and horror. They don't disturb like the way this does. This movie is culturally significant since it pulled in alot of money, was made after Vietnam, showed the theme(I don't want to give it away but are there dysfunctional families?), and made people think the story was true. The story however is actually loosely based on Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein so the story is completely made up.

I was scared watching this movie but I thought the actors were realistic and well. Marilyn Burns is a very good scream queen. I found this more original(though Psycho's Norman Bates is like Leatherface) than other slashers that usually have the typical slasher out for revenge. Fans of this movie should get the Ultimate Edition of the Texas-Chain-Saw-Massacre!』

(You don't want to go fooling around other folks' property. Some folks don't like it, and they don't mind showing you...)
『There's been far too many people who have already sung the praises of this benchmark film, and I could do little to add to what has gone before; suffice to say that I'm in total agreement that this is one of, if not THE, most important horror film since the inception of the genre. No other film comes to my mind out of the many (and I do mean MANY) horror films that I've seen that in conversations with other fans, people describe graphic scenes that they recall from the movie that DID NOT HAPPEN ONSCREEN. I don't believe any other movie has had that kind of power; that just through mere suggestion creates images so vivid and complete that they are remembered as actuality...that is a testament to it's power.

This two-disc special edition is excellence squared. I owned a previous "re-mastered" release, but this transfer simply blows the old one away...it's crisp and clean, but not TOO clean; you don't lose that cinema veritas "documentary" feel, but it's definitely the best print I've ever seen. For the audio, you have a choice of either the remastered original mono, or a new 5.1 mix that sounds fantastic in my home theater system...the ambient sounds alone were enough to give me goosebumps as I screened it.

For special features, there are two very informative and entertaining documentaries. The "house tour" is not all that I expected, but it is entertaining to us fans. Along with the fine still galleries and deleted scenes (which most were unfortunately but expectedly without sound) this all makes a fine addition to any horror collection, and is indispensible to TCM fans.

Highly recommended to fans of the series, the genre, and horror films in general.』

(Classic cult movie)
『Disturbing&graphic, absolutely fascinating and repulsive at the same time. A true cult horror classic movie.』
『It has been called grisly, sick, and perverse," as well as raw, unshakeable, and the movie that redefined horror. It was attacked by churches, banned by governments, and acclaimed by only the bravest of critics. It stunned audiences worldwide and set a new standard in movie terror forever. In 1974, writer-producer-director Tobe Hooper unleashed this dark, visionary tale about a group of five young friends who face a nightmare of torment at the hands of a depraved Texas clan. Today it remains unequaled as a landmark of outlaw filmmaking and unparalleled in its impact as perhaps the most frightening motion picture ever made.

Bonus features include:
Brand new never-before-seen featurette with reclusive actress Terri McMinn entitled Off the Hook
Feature-length commentaries with director Tobe Hooper, cinematographer Daniel Pearl, actors Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Allen Danzinger, and art director Robert A. Burns
Featurettes The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Shocking Truth and Flesh Wounds
Theatrical trailers and TV and Radio spots
A tour of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre House with Gunnar Hansen
Deleted scenes and outtakes
Blooper reel and still gallery』

『This sensational, extremely influential, 1974 low-budget horror movie directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist,Lifeforce,Salem's Lot), may be notorious for its title, but it's also a damn fine piece of moviemaking. And it's blood-curdling scary, too. Loosely based on the true crimes of Ed Gein (also a partial inspiration forPsycho), the original Jeffrey Dahmer,Texas Chainsaw Massacrefollows a group of teenagers who pick up a hitchhiker and wind up in a backwoods horror chamber where they're held captive, tortured, chopped up, and impaled on meat hooks by a demented cannibalistic family, including a character known as Leatherface who maniacally wields one helluva chainsaw. The movie's powerful sense of dread is heightened by its grainy, semi-documentary style--but it also has a wicked sense of humor (and not that camp, self-referential variety that became so tiresome in subsequent horror films of the '70s, '80s, and '90s). OK, in case you couldn't tell, it's "not for everyone." But as a landmark in the development of the horror/slasher genre, it ranks withPsycho,Halloween, andA Nightmare on Elm Street.--Jim Emerson

(This is as good as any snatcher movie.)
『The formula is the classic; someone is being "alienated." Naturally someone wants to put a "bug" in your ear as to which the person(s) is/are. Time is running out to find out what the problem is and how to correct it. As always the first to go is the authorities.

All right you have seen it a million times and even the characters in the movie refer to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956) [see my review] and "The Puppet Masters" (1994). However it is not the plot but the carrying out of the plot or action that makes the movie. I was amazed to find this movie so professionally portrayed in the era of ersatz teenybopper knockoffs like "Sleepy Hollow"

The characters were well chosen to portray the different Faculty and student types.

Where have we seen Coach Willis (Robert Patrick) before? Can you say "Terminator Two"?

Laura Harris is from Canada and this is Ohio so what doses that make her? (An Al...)

You can not beat the descriptive names given to the characters.

The movie is just down right fun and has a lot of "Don't do that" scenes makes you want to kibitz.

(entertaining)
『Great movie. Good actors helped make this movie and sometime the comedy shots were a great add to the movie.

(A Scary Fun Body Snatcher flick.)
『I have this movie on vhs tape. I just watched half of this movie on tv. I was interested to see how others rated this movie. I don't know any of the actors names right off hand, but there are some very good actors in the movie. The football coach character was in Terminator two and also in the X Files. He was an excellent character in the flick. John Stewart was also quite good in his role as a teacher. The actress who played "Lilith" or Frasier Crane's wife on Cheers was quite good. And how could she not be great. She is extremely SEXY. I think she's a powder keg. The spanish actress who was also a teacher, was good in the flick.

The cast of young stars did pretty well as high school students. However, I didn't think the girl who played the alien "Queen" brought much to the movie at all. The idea of killing the aliens with some "skat" is fairly lame, but I guess it could work. What was that substance anyway, cocaine? Not much really happens in this flick. The best action occurs in the school itself.

The movie is a BLATANT ripoff of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. If this bothers you then you will probably give the movie a low grade. Personally I didn't even think about the Body Snatchers when I saw this flick. Only later did I realize how this movie really did just rehash that same plot.

The movie is pretty good I feel. I'm giving it three stars because it borrowed so much from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I must say though that these aliens stole bodies in an entirely fresh manner. It's not like they used pods and all.

(I'm Very Pleased)
『I bought this DVD on Saterday&recieved it in the mail on Monday. Not only was I pleased because I got it so quick but because it played in the DVD player great. I definitely would recommend amazon.com to any movie lover.』
『This hip and edgy thriller from the director of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN and the writer of SCREAM and SCREAM 2 sizzles with a hot young cast including Elijah Wood (THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy), Josh Hartnett (PEARL HARBOR), and R&B superstar Usher Raymond! When some very creepy things start happening around school, the kids at Herrington High make a chilling discovery that confirms their worst suspicions: their teachers really are from another planet! As mind-controlling parasites rapidly begin spreading from the faculty to the students' bodies, it's ultimately up to the few who are left -- an unlikely collection of loners, leaders, nerds, and jocks -- to save the world from alien domination! Also starring Robert Patrick (TERMINATOR 2), Famke Janssen (X-MEN), and Jon Stewart (TV's THE DAILY SHOW) in a great cast -- don't miss the unstoppable excitement of this unpredictably smart and scary hit!』
『Okay, you knew everyone in high school was just a little different: everyone looked at you strangely, the teachers were freaky, and you never could find the right groove to fit into. What if it turned out that it was all because your school was inhabited by creepy aliens from outer space? That's the enjoyably cheesy B-premise for this fun and scary flick from the pen ofScream's Kevin Williamson, the master of the post-modern teen horror film. Directed by Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi), it'sThe Breakfast ClubmeetsInvasion of the Body Snatchers, as six disparate students from Herrington High School band together when they discover that an alien life form is invading both the student and faculty bodies, with plans to take over the world.

Each of the heroes represents a different high school type: popular babe (Jordana Brewster), picked-on geek (Elijah Wood), goth girl (Clea DuVall), sensitive jock (Shawn Hatosy), new kid in town (Laura Harris), and bad-boy rebel (Josh Hartnett). The plot isn't much--a basic kill-or-be-killed premise spiked with a healthy shot of paranoia--but Willliamson and Rodriguez do a great job of building the tension slowly but surely. The suspense set pieces are genuinely frightening, and the film pokes fun at itself without deflating its scares; Williamson is a master at shifting gears from comedy to horror quickly and adroitly. The young cast doesn't have a weak link among them (with special kudos to Wood, DuVall and heartthrob-in-the-making Hartnett), and Rodriguez gets maximum mileage from the titular faculty, which includes Jon Stewart, Piper Laurie, Salma Hayek, Bebe Neuwirth, and Robert Patrick ofTerminator 2. Go to the head of the class, Mr. Williamson.--Mark Englehart

(good novela but long awaited dvd a disappointment)
『I agree with the previous reviewers that this DVD should be re-done. Though it was a good novela, some cool parts were edited out of the DVD. I understand that the editors wanted to edit out filler and redundant scenes, and scenes by secondary characters--like the parts with Ana Julia--and just focus on Marichuy and Juan Miguel's story.
But parts where Marichuy wore fabulous outfits were cut out....like her trip to the Art Gallery with Leopardo, and Marichuy at Rocio's wedding. Baby Juanito's baptism was cut out too.

Anyway, I'm glad I at least have a copy of this novela, but why couldn't it have been a COMPLETE BOX-SET(s) like most tv series on DVD??』

(Cut to pieces)
『I was really impressed by the quality of the videos, but this novela was cut to shreds! All of the best parts, the ones that were the most real, were cut out. These scenes were the whole reason why the novela was so incredibly popular. Shame on whomever is responsible for the editing.』

(Great Movie But DVD is a Disappointment)
『I was so excited when this movie finally arrived in my mailbox. I watched it on tv when it aired but since I don't speak spanish I could only guess what the actors were talking about. So when I found out the DVD was coming out with english subtitles I jumped at ordering this item. Though I will forever love this movie because it is so sweet and romantic, the DVD is a disappointment. So many scenes were cut out that you miss the whole plot of the story.』

(Very romantic)
『The movie itself was great but very disappointed on the DVD. They cut off a lot of the parts in the movie out and was not happy about it because it didn't make sense in some parts. They should of made it four disc instead of three and maybe they could of fit the movie in it.』

(An Important Year for Spanish Language Soap Operas (Telenovelas))
『Yeah, there's a few telenovelas out there. But they don't seem to be very well packaged or distributed. This year, it looks like that's going to change. I don't know why or how, but Cuidado Con El Angel has taken off like a rocket. It's talked about in the same breath as shows like Desperate Houswives or Lost. Think about it. It's not marketed to the general public. It's a household name in Hispanic/latin-american communities, but it went rogue and caught the attention of an audience who had never before paid attention to those sorts of shows before. Just like back in 1999 when Latin-American music artists came into vogue, I think 2010 will bring us another Latin explosion -- this time of soap opera stars. Something fun to watch out for.

(Wolf)
『Contemporary werewolf tale about a successful Manhattan book editor who after being bitten by a wolf, tries to resist as he begins to be transformed into a beast. Wolf is an entertaining comedic horror piece with over-the-top special effects, that does please.

(As much of a hoot as a howl - and all the better for it)
『In no way a conventional horror movie, nonetheless, it is, alongside the Coppola `Dracula' and the `Branagh' Frankenstein, all brought out within a couple of years of one another in the early nineties, supposedly, part of a revisionist trilogy of that traditional staple horror fare.

Directed by Mike Nichols with a script by Wesley Strick and Jim Harrison (of Legends of the Fall fame), Nicholson is at his brilliant best as the jaded lead editor of a publishing house recently acquired by a billionaire asset stripper played in suitably predatory fashion by the excellent Christopher Plummer. He gets the `shot in the arm' needed to fight back against the twin evils of rampant capitalism and cuckolding protégé Spader, who has more than an eye on Nicholson's wife, Nelligan, and his mentor's job, from an 'obliging' wolf, when travelling back from a business trip through the frozen wilds of a New England winter. When asked to visit Plummer, ostensibly to be offered a `sideways' move but, in reality, alower prestige job, he encounters Plummer's slightly wayward daughter, Pfeiffer, who plays her spoilt little rich girl part to perfection and who, initially at any rate, is only too willing to ally herself to Nicholson as a way of spiting her presumably negligent father.

There are, too, turns by stalwart Brit actors, Prunella Scales and Eileen Atkins and Frazier's David Hyde Pierce. The movie has wit, irony, elegance and a superb and, by turns, lushly romantic and jazzy Ennio Morricone score: all this and some wonderfully amusing moments make for a truly enjoyable experience even if the label `horror' normally turns you off.

(A Classy Werewolf Story)
『Here's a werewolf movie done with some style and some class. This may be the only werewolf-business world story combination. It features effective villains played by James Spader and Christopher Plummer and the always unpredictable Jack Nicholson.

Nicholson has the lead role, naturally, and is refreshingly low-key, especially for him. I don't believe he ever raised his voice in this movie, acting very subdued throughout.

There isn't as much action as you see in most modern-day horror movies but yet this is such an intense story that you don't lose interest. It's pretty good in the visual department, too, and it doesn't hurt to have Michelle Pfeiffer to ogle.』

(This Wolf Blows The House Down)
『Jack Nicholson makes the perfect gentle, mild-mannered protagonist as Will, who becomes slowly transformed after being bitten on a stretch of dark lonely road in the snow after hitting a wolf with his car and then climbing out to investigate in perhaps the creepiest scene in the movie ("A wolf in Vermont? Are you sure?" everyone keeps asking him). Great star power, atmosphere, and lush interiors in this film, with Pfeiffer as the blue-blood, sarcastic street-smart and estranged daughter of Will's ruthless boss (played beautifully by Christopher Plummer) who replaces Will as senior editor of the publishing house he takes over, with younger, upstart punk Stewart (played by the flawless James Spader who is seemingly BORN to play these kinds of roles) and who we could really refer to as a "wolf-in-sheep's clothing" because he has everyone fooled that he is really a nice guy instead of the ruthless backstabbing coward he really is. David Hyde Pierce is also perfectly cast as Will's coworker and buddy who stands by him and whose role could have been expanded so he would have had more screen time, but hey, I'll take what I can get. The story is a refreshing and original modernization of the werewolf tale that has been told a thousand different ways that we have all seen throughout the history of cinema, complete with humor and gore and plot twists that keep it fresh and exciting. They even retained the mystical element of the story as well, but keeping it relevant with this day and age (Will's transformation enables him to deal with these hard situations in a way he was not previously capable of, so it is a joy, in a way, to see him come into his own so the deserving people get what's coming to them) and the effects on the different interpersonal relationships of the characters. The strange, slow-mo ending sequences of the film fall short compared to the first part of the movie (would a climactic werewolf battle include using gardening tools as weapons and attempted rape? um, probably not, but hey, suspension of disbelief is important here), but are unique and interesting enough to keep you guessing as to how the action will end and who will survive. Sit down with a hot cup of tea on a stormy night and enjoy this great re-telling of a classic horror movie story complete with humor, horror, and some great star power, which also includes Prunella Scales (remember Fawlty Towers?), David Jenkins, Kate Nelligan, Eileen Atkins, Ron Rifkin (who has one of the funniest lines in the film), and Allison Janney and David Schwimmer in bit parts - no pun intended!』

(It's a Gift!)
『There isn't much I can add to the many fine reviews of this underrated film, except this: when one looks at all the many werewolf movies produced, going back to Lon Cheny, Jr's THE WOLFMAN, the one constant is that lycanthropy is a curse, an unwarranted damnation. What struck me after watching this film recently is the possibility that the transformation of man (or woman) into wolf can be viewed as a blessing, a gift. It certainly is for Nicholson's character Will Randall. Notice he never maims or kills except in self defense (OK, he DID slaughter the innocent deer, but that is a normal event in the animal kingdom). What he gets out of it is an escape from the treacherous brutality and betrayal of homosapiens and the freedom to make his life what he wants it to become--we get a clue of this early on from his truthful, but tasteless (and funny) remark at the party about the decline of civilization and the triumph of pop and therapeutic culture. He has no use for the world humanity has unmade, and werewolfism becomes his ticket out of it. Added to this is the likely possibility that he'll wind up with his new love as an added bonus. Seems like the perfect happy ending to me!』
『Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer star in Wolf a wickedly funny wildly romantic white-knuckle thriller. James Spader Kate Nelligan Christopher Plummer and David Hyde Pierce co-star in this beastly tale of love and betrayal with equal measures of humor passion and delicious terror.System Requirements:Starring: Jack Nicholson Michelle Pfeiffer James Spader and Christopher Plummer Director: Mike Nichols Copyright: 1994 Columbia Produced by Douglas Wick; written by Jim Harrison Wesley Strick; DVD released on 11/25/1997; running time of 125 minutes; Closed Captioned. 『Sophisticated to a point, this well-executed wolf-man tale works due to its clever setting and enormous star power. We all know Jack Nicholson can go nuts, but the script makes his character aware of his changes, sometimes for the better, early on. The setting, a publishing house in the middle of a takeover, gives the characters dramatic life before the horror elements kicks in. A senior editor about to get the boot, Nicholson's character becomes a new man after being bitten by a wolf. He takes on challenges at work, lives a more robust life, and attracts a new love. But will his newfound energy consume him? Director Mike Nichols keeps the action alive in the first half, but the film peters out at the end with cheap theatrics and the overuse of slow motion. Michelle Pfeiffer has little to do as simply the love interest with a grittier than average personality. Better is James Spader as a smarmy colleague. Nicholson is in fine form, relying on his keen gift to spark interest (a twitch of the head, a look in the eyes), instead of heavy doses of movie makeup. Giuseppe Rotunno's sweeping camerawork sets the mood quite well. Easy to recommend, with the added feature it's hardly gratuitous.--Doug Thomas

(The only nightmare this gave me was one in which I'm forced to watch it again.)
『Boring. Mind-numbingly boring. I forced myself to watch every single one of these boring productions because I was given this as a gift. I couldn't stand it. In most of the stories, nothing happens. There were a couple I could kind of stand to watch, but relatively speaking they were about as good as the worst episodes of a good series. Seriously, don't waste your time and money on this. I don't even want my copy anymore and I doubt anybody else does either so I don't even bother trying to sell it; I'd feel terrible taking somebody's money and giving them this in return. Even if you don't believe me, there is so much else out there to purchase&watch -- why gamble on this?

Some of you may expect me to actually outline why it was boring&why I hated it so much. Well, you're out of luck. It was so boring that attempting to rehash any events from it for the sake of in-depth critique would probably put me into a coma. It's not worth the words. I would much rather make these vague, but accurate, derogatory statements because it is a kind of catharsis for me -- and because I wanted to be a voice of reason in this sea of apologetic reviews.

Seriously, guys, your idea of a bad rating for this is 3 stars? 3 stars means you may not love it..you may not want to marry it...you may not want to have its children...but you at least wouldn't make fun of it the next day with your friends...you kinda liked it. This set is a 1-star at best.』

(hamstrung by network style t.v. restraints)
『having seen a great deal of horror and sci-fi film and television dating back to the thirties , i feel merchants must be lauding this collection . being a cable production , i anticipated that the shows would have more grit , intelligence , adult content , etc . at only $6.00 for a new set though , i can't grouse too much . satisfactory . see two star reviews for the strait dope . perhaps we're all a bit generous still . rent it if you can't find it cheap .』

(King Scores Big with Short Stories for the Screen)
『I have most of Stephen King's major movies so it was a very pleasant surprise to find this gem. The tape with the same title was incredible with all the creepyness and spell binding abilily typical of campfire stories. I was not sure that the suspense and "chills" could be adequately reproduced on the screen. This collection of several short stories--some from the tape and some from his book was no disappointment.

The special effects are high end- easily matching the theater of the mind for those who enjoy King's books and tapes. Major actors are involved and the performances are great. Because it is a collection of short stories you can pick and choose what and when to watch. Although it is hard not to want "just one more." I was messmirized by the segment involving toy soldiers in a bizzare battle against a hitman played by William Hurt. In another story, a couple steps out of a taxi ride and ends up in a new world of increasing horror. I found myself whispering don't go there to the characters on screen. Typical of King, all characters are well developed even the tiny toy soldiers. You can't help but like or hate them. You are quickly engaged. King has no road map for his stories and there are multiple surprises and twists from his seemingly bottomless bag of plots. The mounting terror so typical in Kings stories is never lost on this smaller scale. The segments are short i.e. 30+ min but they have the same impact as a 2 hour movie. As an added bonus there are features with the actors commenting on the roles as well directors on how some of those special effects were done. Great acting, special effects and the always talented writing of Stephen King make this video well worth seeing.』

(Nigthmares&Dreamscpes by Steven King)
『This product contains six short stories that were originally made for TV.... were shown on a cable network as some sort of mini series some time ago. There are numerous cuts in each title to allow for the cable network to play their commercials (although you do not suffer through them - it just moves on the the next part of the story). It is slightly annoying but it does cut down on the playing time. If you like Steven King TV releases this one is about in the middle in terms of the suspense and oddity that we have come to apprcieate. It is not on par with The Stand or Storm of the Century - both great releases. I also prefer Cat's Eye to this as far as short stories go but overall is interesting and fun to watch.』

(My favorite author)
『I have been reading Stephen King for years and years. I had read some of the short stories and wanted to see the movies. I have enjoyed watching these movies.』
『This hair-raising miniseries is comprised of 8 mind-bending stories each featuring an all-star cast and cutting-edge special effects. Each episode is adapted from on of King's short stories and will feature such notable performers as Oscar nominees William H. Macy, William Hurt, Tom Berenger and other favorites as Kim Delaney, Steven Weber, Henry Thomas, Samantha Manthis, Claire Forlani and others. The series will premiere this summer in a 4-week television event on TNT starting July 12, 2006.

『Filter aTwilight Zonevibe through Stephen King's brain and you getNightmares&Dreamscapes, an uneven but generally entertaining collection of eight tales that originally (2006) aired on TNT. There is no unifying theme here; although King's short stories provided the source material, there are six directors and seven screenwriters represented, so the episodes offer a variety of looks and styles, with content ranging from monsters to mind games, from pure fantasy to pulp fiction, from genuinely scary to merely unsettling. Still, a certain ineffably "King-ian" sensibility, combining elements of horror, terror, suspense, and whimsy, is always in evidence, as are the popular writer's own preoccupations (with authors who may or not be stand-ins for King himself, rock 'n' roll, and guys who won't ask for directions while their wives complain, inevitably leading them into very nasty situations).

Among the highlights: In "Battleground," a merciless hit man (William Hurt) offs a toy manufacturer and then finds himself attacked in his own apartment by a battalion of indefatigable toy soldiers; directed by Brian Henson, the episode has no dialogue and some terrific effects work. In "Umney's Last Case," William H. Macy is amusing as a crime writer who cruelly toys with his literary alter ego, an arch, fedora-wearing gumshoe (also Macy); it's an actingtour de forceand a story that takes some deft and intriguing turns. "The Road Virus Heads North," with Tom Berenger as a horror novelist who finds himself pursued by… well, by a painting (guess you had to be there), is perhaps the scariest of the lot; it's also the best shot, with a cool jazz soundtrack and a nifty ending. Less successful is "Crouch End," set in a sinister part of London where "thin spots" in the earth lead to creepy new dimensions (nice premise, but it's overwritten and fails to sustain itsTwilight Zoneweirdness), while "You Know They Got a Hell of Band" is only fitfully effective in its depiction of Rock&Roll Heaven, Oregon, a town where Elvis is mayor and the rest of the living dead range from Hendrix and Joplin to Duane Allman and Buddy Holly. The three-disc set's decent if unexceptional special features include "inside looks" at the making of several episodes, actor interviews, and more.--Sam Graham

(Tremors)
『Trying to escape their dead-end life in the desert town of Perfection, Nevada, Valentine McKee and Earl Bassett find themselves sidetracked when corpses mysteriously start piling up around them. When Val and Earl have a run-in with some creepy tentacled creatures that have made lunch out of a road crew, they retreat back to the town to spread the news. Although these monsters are not exactly intellectuals, their mental powers are still mind-boggling. Detecting a human hiding in a car, they dig under the vehicle, causing it to sink into the earth. Val and Earl get help from several townspeople. With the help of Rhonda, Val and Earl kill one of the monsters. But there are three of them left, and they are each about 30 feet long. Walter starts calling the monsters graboids. When the survivors think they have outwitted the graboids by taking refuge atop the roofs of buildings, the graboids merely destroy the buildings' foundations, killing two people. The graboids are quick learners when it comes to stalking their prey, and the humans must continually be on their toes if they are to stay alive while they try to find a way to defeat the graboids. "Tremors" succeeds in what it sets out to be, an exciting and wonderfully entertaining horror thriller. A lot of fun and highly recommended.』

(Awesome movie)
『i actually bought this HD DVD because i recently purchased a hd dvd player for my xbox 360, and this movie was only about 3$ including shipping, so i couldn't pass up the deal. i mainly bought it because i can't find my VHS version and i wanted a better copy anyway! The picture has excellent quality and the sound compared to the VHS is....well... a huge leap (duh).』

(Reba is in it)
『I bought this movie because Reba Mac is in it&I like her. The movie is ok. Closer to kind of dumb. Large killer worms go after humans. Real ugly things (the worms). They travel under the ground then pop out. It's on tv quite a lot. One ate a car.』

(This valley is just one long smorgasbord!)
『With this review getting me past the halfway point in my "31 horror movie reviews for the 31 days of October" concept I had, leading up to the 31st by Halloween, I figure I should add my input on yet another classic, namely "Tremors." "Tremors" is one of those movies with a universal appeal, whether or not you're a hardcore fan of horror movies. It's got a strong plot, consistent series of events, awesome action and intensity, and characters that are very likable and the kind you want to see survive. Although it's not as graphic as other movies of the genre, highlighted by the PG-13 rating, there are some good monster-related gore scenes, like when a construction worker jackhammers a monster through the ground and blood bubbles up. There's also a lot of good laughs throughout the movie, including some brilliant one-liners that make for some down-to-earth comedy. Even more, we have a budding romance in the sub-plot that makes for a happy ending at the end. The monsters, although are kept underground in the earlier half of the movie, are amazing when shown. And of course, great monsters make a great monster movie.

The sound and picture quality of the disc is really nice, too. What's more, there's lots of extra features here that beef up the quality of the disc. I actually got this in the "Tremors 4-Pack", which has all four movies in the series, and at a great price too. Overall, I can't think of a single bad thing about this movie, or the disc it comes on. For those seeking a highly-entertaining, down-to-earth monster movie, "Tremors" will sound off a 10 on the Richter Scale! Thanks for the time, and peace.』

『I remember seeing this movie as a kid after watching "Beetlejuice" and the infamous sandworms of Saturn. So when seeing this film with giant carnivorous worms, I was instantly hooked. Years later this films still manages to pack a punch and still hold my attention longer than most films today.

Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon are unlikely pair to be in such a oddball buddy film turned Scifi horror straight out the Atomic Age. Micheal Gross and the fiery, redheaded Reba McEntire (who by the way looks good carrying a machine gun, wow where can I find a woman like that?:)) play a believable married couple. With Reba's levelheadedness and Gross' paranoid but not over the top gun fanatic-turned-survivalist is an interesting combination (which strangely reminds me of my brother who seems to emulate Burt down to the wall of guns).

Even his motto has become my brother's favorite saying, " If you need it and don't got it, you sing a different tune,".

Anyway, this film manages to be scary and funny at the same time, a feat not easily accomplished in today's hack'em-up-while-their-screamin' horror flicks. Also, it's somewhat kid friendly as there aren't buckets of red corn syrup pouring off every inch of celluloid. The director seems to have studied Hitchcock's Less-is-more method when it comes to death scenes, though a few gory bits are bound to pop up.

It's a very fun film from beginning to end and is well thought out, and is worth a watch. Also it's a great popcorn movie for a rainy day. Definitely worth owning.』

『Who would have guessed that this clever, fast-paced creature feature from 1990 would become a beloved miniclassic worthy of its own Collector's Edition DVD?Tremorsdidn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunneling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humor that it made everything old seem new again. It's also got a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battles a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. Followed by a direct-to-video sequel (Tremors: Aftershocks), this horror thriller was given the deluxe treatment for its DVD release. Bonus features include an original "making-of" documentary, previously unseen video showing the creation of the worm-creatures, outtakes from the film, the original ending not shown in theaters, theatrical trailers, and a gallery of production photographs. If you're a fan, consider this a must-have disc!--Jeff Shannon

(Good but missing two main characters...)
『Enjoyable, really but regretfully both Rube (Mandy Patinkin)and mostly Daisy (Laura Harris)are missing in this final-curtain-like movie rendition of an otherwise absolutely brilliant TV show.』

(poor representation of a great show)
『This movie doesn't even come close to the quality of the show. They didn't get a number of important characters from the original cast, a ton of things in the movie weren't explained, and the plot felt very forced.

Unless you're a fan of the show, this isn't worth watching. And even then, it's a stretch.』

(one of the worse films I've ever seen)
『Oh, my goodness.

This movie is simply AWFUL.

No plot, no good actors, no sense at all!

How can a director spend good money on that???

(Dead Like Me: Did Not Resusitate)
『I really liked the series and hoped for a return of the series (for a few more seasons) or a series of movies. This was a big let down.
There are already several good detailed reviews here that all I can add is I agree that this sucked.』

(Closure at last.... and funny murder)
『I look at all of the negative reviews, and disagree. There isn't one of you that didn't need that closure with Reggie, that allowed Reggie to go on with life. Her smile at the end made it all worth it. Her mom is trying so hard to help her mend and for the first time, Reggie allows her mom to step in. George gets closure too, having told her sister she loves her, and seeing her sister happy again and on the road to recovery. The murder of the boss is wonderful! I loved the deserved agression and frustration until a solution is devised. I kept thinking, he's gonna snap together somehow - I just KNOW it! In fact, when all of the post-its rained down at the very end, I figured he was issuing some sort of payback from wherever that rocket took him to punish her. Still not sure if that really meant she was done reaping or if she was now the new boss. The child reaper for small animals was a sweet touch. I couldn't freeze the frame, but it looked like the girl she reaped from the train - nice circle. Though I couldn't figure why a child would be a reaper instead of going to a final reward immediately as they are all innocent souls. I have closure. Thanks for it.』

(Great movie)
『DVD arrived in excellent condition. Action packed movie does not disappoint. Great actors, korean and japanese. I loved this movie!』

(better then the anime)
『The live action version of this movie thankfully adds a longer storyline. This movie is just as bloody as the anime, but has some wonderful use of color in many scenes. The acting was good as well as the fight scenes. All in all, I thought it was a very good movie, especially for those who liked the anime version.』

(The Last Bad Vampire Movie)
『Talking about Suckers! (Not the Vampire Kind). I am one for falling for the nice tittle. Silly fight scenes, bad Acting and ridiculous specials effects make this Movie really terrifying to seat thru. Save yourself 4 bucks, and go watch reruns of True Blood until the next season starts.』

(BLOOD, reigns...rains.)
『A fabulous film with great effects, stunning visuals awesome fight scenes and plenty of blood...spilled.』

(The not-really-last "vampire" who is really a half-human, half-zombie demon)
『WARNING: This review contains some things that could be seen as spoilers for a movie that I do not recommend wasting your time to see. I have tried to leave out some of the details, but many of the details of the spoilers are the reason this movie is so bad.

I was very intrigued when I heard that this was an anime movie involving a vampire. What an interesting combination! However, after watching this movie, I am amazed to find so many positive reviews here at Amazon. I wonder if many people are basing their rating on the previous movie that this is based on (or is there a comic)? I have not seen that movie, so this is not to be seen as a judgment of that, or anime, or anything other than THIS particular movie. While I can appreciate that fans may enjoy this movie, I think that it is important to make a movie interesting to those who may not already be familiar with the previous movie(s) and any sequel or prequel.

I think that this movie was absolutely terrible. I usually have no trouble getting into the world created by a movie, but I wasn't able to do that with this movie, I was aware that I was watching a movie the whole time. The characters were blatantly 2 dimensional, and I was not convinced to feel interested in what happened to any of them. Even from the beginning of the movie where there was a written background description, it became evident that the characters would be very shallow and black&white. This movie was such a disappointment and a waste of time. The ONLY reason I would be interested in watching something relevant is to try to understand the story as the original author had intended, because I feel certain that this is NOT it.

There was a schizophrenic confusion about vampires and demons - Saya is fighting the demons, and it seems that she is the "last" vampire referred to in the title, because she is drinking something from a bottle that looks like it could be blood. But this is never explained, just implied. Then it turns out that she is a half-demon and half human, and I was completely confused by this. How is she the "last" vampire when there are clearly loads of demons, and she is related to them? If demons and vampires are the same thing, and if they had just been consistent about the names - demon OR vampire, this would have been much less confusing, even though the title the "last" vampire still doesn't make sense. But then, maybe ambiguity was what they needed to cover up for the "Shocking Surprise". The canned plot surprise with Saya and Onigen was ridiculous, I jokingly predicted it when they first referred to Onigen as "she" and I was pretty disgusted at the predictability when that was actually what they chose to do. I also predicted that after Alice reminded Saya that no matter what she was human, that that would come back at the end and save her somehow - but I was wrong about that, and we were left hanging and wondering where the real ending was.

Also, it didn't make any sense to me why there were both the elder, Saya's guardian/teacher who was killed by Onigen's henchman, and Saya's father, who was killed by Onigen. It would have made more sense to combine those two characters instead of having two way too similar (oversimplified?) stories, and then focus on making the rest of the plot make some sense, which this movie so desperately needed.

The General's daughter, Alice, was whiny and a wimp, not very likeable at all, and I wondered why anyone would want to save her, and why she was even in the story. The Alice in Wonderland references could have been interesting, but they were just confusing and didn't add to the story, it just seemed like she was named Alice so that they could include irrelevant references. There was very little bonding between the two female characters until the end of the movie, and I kept wondering why Saya would have gone through such great efforts to protect Alice. And how did Alice know what to do when Saya was hurt and passed out? Most people might think of CPR in that situation, where did she get the idea to give her blood? Yet another reason I was unable to immerse myself into the movie because it was so unbelievable.

The action scenes were very repetitive. The stop-go filming style was interesting at first, but then it was repeated so much, so many times throughout the movie, that it became boring. Particularly in the crevasse scene, there is some REALLY bad CG that looks like a video game from the mid 1990s.

I really want to give this movie more than one star, but I can't seem to justify it. There were bits that had interesting scenery, and the overall feel of the movie was that it was a high budget movie. I considered giving this movie a gratuitous bonus star, because there were certain minor parts about the character of Saya that I found interesting, and the costumes were interesting, particularly those of Saya and Onigen, but that wasn't really enough to justify another star. The part that makes me sad is that I see the potential for this to have been a really good movie, but it would take a LOT of work to get there.

You know what this movie really made me think of? It's like a game where kids pick some names of things out of a hat and quickly make an impromptu story out of them. The author(s) chose tags that said: anime heroine, vampire, "Alice in Wonderland", the Vietnam War, action from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", a "you killed my father, prepare to die" vendetta, a "Luke, I am your father" type reveal, zombie demons who are able to disguise themselves as humans, etc.

I left this movie (thankfully a DVD, not in the theater!) wondering what I was missing, but not really interested in watching more to find out. It was confusing - were the demons also vampires? Where did they come from? Why was Onigen considered SO badass, just because she killed Saya's father? Why did she kill Saya's father? What the heck happened to the girls in the trippy part at the end, and where was Saya? Did I REALLY care? No, not really. Not really.

『The deadliest assassin to stand the test of time. From a Producer ofHeroandCrouching Tiger, Hidden DragoncomesBlood: The Last Vampire, based on the cult hit anime series. Demons have infested Earth. And only one warrior stands between the dark and the light: Saya, a half-human, half-vampire samurai who preys on those who feast on human blood. Joining forces with the shadowy society known as the Council, Saya is dispatched to an American military base, where an intense series of swordfights leads her to the deadliest vampire of all. And now after 400 years, Saya's greatest hunt is about to begin.』
