(Awesome Looking Blu Ray dics)
『I've just started collecting BR's right after I bought my PS3 and I wish I had been purchasing them sooner. I also have the standard dvd of this movie and the difference between dvd and br is phenomenal. Love the trilogy. Blu Ray FTW!』

(great trilogy; lousy packaging)
『i would have given it 5 stars were it not for the packaging. the DVD's are stacked on top of each other instead of each one being in its separate tray.

So, let's say you want to watch "rise of the lycans" the last movie in the trilogy.
to get to it, you have to remove the 1st two DVDs "underworld" and "evolution" put them on whatever surface is handy and then pop out "rise of the lycans."
then, you need to put "underworld" and "evolution" back in the case and hope you don't scratch them in the process.
granted a minor annoyance, but not exactly use friendly either.

(I still havn't recieved this item.)
『I am very upset, because I trusted this site, to purchase from. Unfortantly that has been proven otherwise, because I have yet to recieve this item. So I will never order from Amazon ever again. I have yet to recieve any assistance.』

(Underworld Trilogy Blu-Ray)
『arrived quickly and all was in order and in good condition and would buy from them again』

(ok)
『disks were pretty scratched up and one looked like it was repaired with some kind of glue, it played ok not sure how long it will last.』

Underworld

Underneath the city streets, amid the labyrinth of subway tunnels and gothic ruins, the two most notorious creatures of the night are embroiled in an all-out war that has been going on for centuries. It is the culmination of a blood-thirsty battle between the vampires and their mortal enemies, the werewolves. Stars: Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbor, My Life Without Me), Scott Speedman (My Life Without Me, TV'sFelicity).

Underworld: Evolution

The saga continues as the battle rages on between the death dealers (vampires)&the lycans (werewolves) in this fast-paced modern-day tale of deadly action ruthless intrigue&forbidden love all leading to the battle to end all wars as the immortals finally face their retribution.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Underworld: Rise of the Lycansdelves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.

Underworld

BlademeetsThe CrowandThe MatrixinUnderworld, a hybrid thriller that rewrites the rulebook on werewolves and vampires. It's a "cuisinart" movie (blend a lot of familiar ideas and hope something interesting happens) in which immortal vampire "death dealers" wage an ancient war against "Lycans" (werewolves), who've got centuries of revenge--and some rather ambitious genetic experiments--on their lycanthropic agenda. Given his preoccupation with gloomy architecture (mostly filmed in Budapest, Hungary), frenetic mayhem and gothic costuming, it's no surprise that first-time director Len Wiseman gained experience in TV commercials and the art departments ofGodzilla,Men in Black, andIndependence Day. His work is all surface, no substance, filled with derivative, grand-scale action as conflicted vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale, who later became engaged to Wiseman) struggles to rescue an ill-fated human (Scott Speedman) from Lycan transformation. It's great looking all the way, and a guaranteed treat for horror buffs, who will eagerly dissect its many strengths and weaknesses.--Jeff Shannon

Underworld: Evolution
Better action, a bit of sex, and gorier R-rated violence makeUnderworld: Evolutiona reasonably satisfying sequel to 2003's surprise hitUnderworld. Looking stunning as ever in her black leather battle gear, Kate Beckinsale is every goth guy's fantasy as Selene, the vampire "death dealer" who's now fighting to stop the release of the original "Lycan" werewolf, William (Brian Steele) from the prison that's held him for centuries. As we learn from the film's action-packed prologue, William and his brother Marcus (Tony Curran) began the bloodline of vampires and werewolves, and after witnessing centuries of warfare between them, their immortal father Corvinus (Derek Jacobi) now seeks Selene and the human vampire/lycan hybrid Michael (Scott Speedman) to put an end to the war perpetuated by Victor (Bill Nighy), the vampire warrior whose betrayal of Selene turnsUnderworld: Evolutioninto an epic tale of familial revenge. This ambitious attempt at Shakespearean horror is compromised by a script (by Danny McBride and returning director Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's real-life husband) that's more confusing than it needs to be, with too many characters and not enough storytelling detail to flesh them all out. Aspiring to greatness and falling well short of that goal,Underworld: Evolutionsucceeds instead as a full-throttle action/horror thriller, with enough swordplay, gunplay, and CGI monsters to justify the continuation of theUnderworldfranchise. If you're an established fan, this is a must-see movie; if not, well... at least it's better thanVan Helsing!--Jeff Shannon

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

This prequel to Len Wiseman’sUnderworldandUnderworld: Evolutionis distinctively different, especially minus the nimble vampire warrior star, Selene (Kate Beckinsale).Underworld: Rise of the Lycanstakes its cues from the vampire/werewolf battles that occur in the other films, but director Patrick Tatopoulos focuses here on the young werewolf Lucian's (Michael Sheen) rise to leadership.Rise of the Lycansis set mostly within the walls of vampire lord Viktor’s (Bill Nighy) castle, so the film’s silver, black, and blue palette reflects a world happening under moonlight. From the outset, when Viktor brings Lucian, the first werewolf, into the world, this villainous bloodsucker’s daughter, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), is smitten with Lucian’s hairy appearance and instinctual intelligence. As years pass, Lucian grows tired of watching his race suffer slavery and imprisonment, and recruits a human named Raze (Kevin Grevioux) to assist rebellion. This archetypal plot is not so riveting, and what carriesUnderworld: Rise of the Lycansare the battle scenes between vampires and werewolves, which are excitingly fast-paced and brutal. The whole film adopts a medieval battlefield aesthetic that carries an otherwise clichéd story about illicit love and freedom fighting. Some characters, like the traitor vampire Tannis (Steven Mackintosh), also intrigues throughout, as one guesses who he will ally with.Underworld: Rise of the Lycansmay not be the finest film in the werewolf and vampire archives independently, but its mixed monstrosity makes it unique and entertaining, especially on a big screen.--Trinie Dalton

『I HAD FORGOTTON HOW FUNNY THIS MOVIE WAS AND DID NOT NOTICE ALL THE WEIRD THINGS WHEN I WAS LITTLE UP UNTIL NOW WITH THE JUDGES NOSE... LOL... GREAT MOVIE』

(If you saw it as a child, you'll love it forever!!!)
『I don't understand all the horrible reviews people are giving "Nothing But Trouble."

I mean, what more could one expect from a film starring Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, and John Candy?!

This is one of my favorite films of ALL TIME. If you have children, LET THEM WATCH THIS FILM. Everyone I know who knows of (and loves) this film saw it as a child, and there is some weird quality about this movie that makes it that much more rewarding to experience the Valkenvania court house as a child.

Other movies that are also good to see as a child if for no other purpose than to revisit them years later as an adult: "She Devil," "Problem Child," "Problem Child II," "Death Becomes Her," "War of the Roses," and "The Worse Little Witch."』

(NOTHING BUT TROUBLE (WARNER BROS./1991))
『REVIEW: As the old cliche goes: comedy is a very subjective art form. What some people find hilarious to the point of hysterics, others may see as scraping the bottom barrel of stupidity. But if comedy itself is the hardest medium to master then BLACK comedy (that is: comedy which finds humor in the most distasteful of subject matter) is nearly impossible to bring across on screen or in front of a live audience unless you have an innate genius for such ribald material (a la Alfred Hitchcock or Mel Brooks). Case in point here: Dan Aykroyd's deliberately whacked-out, over-the-top, disgusting, cornball of a movie "NOTHING BUT TROUBLE". In it he plays a 106-year-old Justice Of The Peace named Alvin Valkenheiser who presides over a carnival-house court, and who is quick to pronounce a death sentence for the most mundane of traffic violations. His latest "capture" is big-time stock report publisher Chris Thorne (Chase) who is helping a lady in distress (Moore) by driving her to Las Vegas in order to settle some personal business there. Also on board are two annoying South American "Brazillionares" who impose themselves upon Chase and Moore when they overhear their travel plans. On their way the two of them suggest they have a picnic: Moore agrees, Chase grumbles, and soon the foursome are zooming through Valkenvania where they get pulled over by patrolman John Candy. But their nightmare has only begun as they witness first-hand the outlandish antics of Justice Valkenheiser, are treated to a memorably bizarre dinner, and are imprisoned for the night where they sneak out and discover a whole lot more about Valkenvania then they really wish they had ever known. All of this sounds fairly interesting: but with the exception of Candy (in a dual role as the patrolman and the mute strongman...er...strongwoman Eldona), and the painstaking production design there really isn't much here to get excited about. For one thing: it just isn't very funny. And nothing is more painful and depressing than watching a comedy that isn't funny. Especially one that resorts to such desperate measures as making Aykroyd wear a prosthetic nose that looks like a certain part of the male anatomy, or having him and actor John Deveikis dress up in a couple of rubber suits in order to portray two overgrown monster babies. This is as bad as movie making gets. HARSH LANGUAGE: about 32 words. VIOLENCE: about 10 scenes of moderate-to-gross violence. NUDITY/SEXUAL REFERENCES: about 3 (as well as the aforementioned prosthetic "nose" of Justice Valkenheiser). DRUG REFERENCES: some drinking, smoking, and a scene where Candy pulls over a carload of dope dealers sampling their own goods.

RAZZIE AWARD NOMINATIONS: Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Demi Moore), Worst Supporting actress (John Candy - in drag), Worst Screenplay (Dan Aykroyd), Worst Director (Dan Aykroyd)

(Not funny)
『Not funny, uninterestingly perverse in a non-sexual way; normally interesting actors trapped in a truly awful movie.』

『The title should have been simply, "Nothing" I've seen some real stinkers over the years, but this film is in its own league. The film's only possible saving grace might be in using it in one of those old, "This is your brain on drugs." TV ads.』
『Get spooked silly when Chevy Chase and Demi Moore take a wrong turnpike exit and find "hanging judge" Dan Aykroyd and "constable" John Candy in a bizarre New Jersey burg. Year: 1990 Director: Dan Aykroyd Starring: Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Demi Moore, John Candy』

(An original stays an original)
『better than blood lust not visually as blood lust wins that one, but if your talking Storytelling that is where this 80's version shines. It's dark, serious, creepy, and the lead character seems to be very determined, and that is what you like to see if you are looking for a good Hero-based them. whereas the sequel to this just fell flat in substance and delivery (but not too much) V.H.D. Bloodlust is an amazing anime no doubt but some of the 'sidekick' characters appear to ruin the core mission of D himself/And his appeal, so instead of D being the lead guy he almost becomes 'just another bounty hunter' among other bounty hunters looking for the same thing..... to whack the evil Lord Vamp.

Alternately this version the BETTER version is occasionally deemed 'dated' by many who probably were not even born when it came out so of course they would see the later as superior I saw this waaay back in 86' on HBO for the first time and had never seen anything like it, yes I saw F.O.T.N.S. which also came out the same year but this was something unusual for a 'cartoon'at that time, anyway the characters are highly interesting on their own, all with flaws but the the most appealing to me is not D but Magnus Lee the evil one, just his calm laid back attitude and penchant for bloodshed (a really nasty fellow)this makes him far more believable than some cheesy-love-affair scenario found in the sequel.

he's the guy you love to hate (that's when you know you have a good villain) I actually wished he lived through the movie so it would make a better squeal.
secondly we see D's humanity not just a bluish troll like he appears later on he actually seems more Human in this first version the later however 'cool it looks' falls on it face in the sheer misguided use of something that simply does not work in a Vampire film, that being the tired cliche rescuing an infatuated dame-who-falls-for the- misunderstood "good vampire" as if any vampire is ever moral, and kind, so the cheese factor is high in the second version, i still like it (Bloodlust) but the first always trumps the later vampire films are meant to be dark, unsettling, cold, ans yes, even a little 'sadistic' the very reason why this one is 10 times better then it's sequel.

Another review said the sound production was not on pair with proper sonic accuracy - and, they were right when the characters speak it sounds as they are whispering rarely can you make out what they say the rest is very loud explosions, gunfire, fighting, music, but the talking? No. I would like to see a sequel to the Vampire hunter saga, and a re-mastered version of the 1985 Original. Please someone make it happen. :) 5 stars.』

(Classic)
『Vampire Hunter D is one of my favorite stories of all time. I first discovered it back when I was 14, and I just fell in love with the character. So glad they brought this to DVD!! The DVD itself is really good quality, considering how old the original film is. My only complaint is that I find the English voice acting to be annoying on everyone except for D. Totally prefer the subtitled!』

(Not sweetened with time...)
『Vampire Hunter D / B00004Y7JH

*Spoilers*

When I reviewed Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust, I noted my frustrating with the character of "D" who is, in "Bloodlust" so perfect as to be an uninteresting cipher. Here, on the other hand, "D" is a much more interesting character - although still immensely powerful, he makes the occasional mistake, and he is capable of becoming emotional when dealing with a vulnerable woman and her frightened young brother, even going so far as to reach out and befriend them. For that character development alone, I'll give "Vampire Hunter D" a better rating than "Bloodlust".

Having said that, I should take this opportunity to note that if you're not already a fan of this particular anime, this movie probably won't convert you. The animation is very dated, and while I don't demand classic anime to look or feel 'modern', it is still crucial to be able to tell what's going on. The "ubiquitous monochromatic colored background" effect is used liberally, especially in fights and fleeing scenes, and I'm afraid watching a woman run jerkily in place while a blue "background" streaks behind her just doesn't get my pulse pounding. D himself flings himself over cliffs and through haunted castles, but often in such a manner that the viewer is faintly confused - how did he know where the castle was located?

Then again, it may be possible that the castle's location was posted as the nearest cross-roads - the movie can't quite decide how it wants to treat vampires. The setting here is "Futuristic Western", but the only 'futuristic' aspects are the electric fences around the ranches. Vampires seem to be less of a breed and more of a nobility in this world, and the movie seems uncertain whether or not humans can be turned. Does Doris face vampirism in her future, or is she just to be used up as a human play-thing? ("Bloodlust" takes the more common route in this regard and is very plain and upfront that the ingénue *can* be turned and that this is a fate to be avoided.) On the other hand, again like "Bloodlust", minor characters can be turned into vampire slaves at the convenience of the baddies. It's not even clear what constitutes being a half-vampire like D - the local Count boasts a daughter who is revealed, to her surprise and disgust, to be half-human, but you'd think she would have NOTICED that fact about herself if it meant she had different abilities and/or limitations. You could say that she's only "half-human" in the sense of origin - i.e., that her mother was a human-turned-vampire andnot a born-vampire, but then it seems odd that the same Dhampir label would be applied to her.

Finally, I really don't think it's too much to ask that at least one of these "Vampire Hunter D" movies explain D's talking, magical hand. It's not exactly a standard item, and I don't think I'm being unreasonable to expect a bit of backstory on that.

If you're a fan of the Vampire Hunter D series, I think it's safe to say you'll like this movie, but if you're just looking for a new, fresh anime movie to get into, I'd pass on D, unless you can find it at budget price.』

("Old school" anime never fails.)
『I first started developing a serious interest in anime in 1999. I was in a record store called Plan 9 and came across this title while looking for another anime called Vampire Princess Miyu. I was skeptical at first, but then thought, "What the heck?" I'm glad I made that purchase, because this anime is dark, bloody, risque and a landmark achievement. The introduction itself gives me chills just THINKING about it! Considering that this anime was made in 1985, WAY before I even knew what anime was, or what it stood for, I think everyone who was apart of the Urban Vision team were YEARS ahead of their time. And interestingly enough, Vampire Hunter D takes place years ahead in the future. But not quite the future one would come to expect as far as technological advances are concerned. The firearms that some of the villagers posses are quite futuristic I guess, but don't expect to see an atmosphere that's comparable to let's say, The Jetson's. Overall it's an epic anime, and it's now 24 years old. So do yourself or another anime fan a favor and buy it. I swear you won't regret it.』

(Great Anime!!!!)
『This has to by one of if not my favourite animes off all time. The first time I saw this movie was back in the early nineties, (my sister and brother-in-law rented it) and I again saw it on the Sci-Fi Channel in 1993. Great story and great character design. 『D, a haunted half-human, half-vampire warrior, wanders the countryside of a feudalistic future, hunting his own kind while battling his own evil nature. Like a rogue samurai, the silent, solitary hero wanders into a small hamlet terrorized by the all-powerful Count, a monstrous vampire lord, and his demonic minions from a castle that casts a long shadow over the countryside. The Count has claimed the human Doris (who wields a mean cutlass herself) as his bride. D becomes her protector and--when she's captured by the Count's shape-shifting minions--her savior. Designed in slashes and sharp, angular images and directed with abrupt explosions of lightning-fast action,Vampire Hunter Dis violent and bloody in the mode of a samurai adventure. The sleek D is appropriately dark and quiet, cutting a mysterious figure, while the Count is a veritable demon of a vampire, a supernaturally powerful monster whose appetites know no bounds. The undercurrent of sexuality never spills over into the sadistic vein of so many "adults only" thrillers, but it is recommended for mature audiences.

The DVD features both English and Japanese language soundtracks with optional English subtitles. It also has a documentary featurette, deleted footage, and an artwork gallery by Amano among its supplements.--Sean Axmaker

(LOVE IT!)
『Great Show, A little B-rated acting but great story line, hot guys&girls, and good twists!! I can't wait for season 4.』

(All sex; No story.)
『Well- let me be clear: there is a story... a very WEAK, convoluted story. The plot is clearly not as important to the writers as cramming in as many sex scenes as possible. Someone compared this show to "Queer As Folk"... "QAF" had strong stories that dealt with real gay and lesbian issues and the sex scenes were done, yes explicitly, but more importantly- artistically. There is no art to this series. I bought the first season and returned it after watching the first few episodes because I was so disgusted. This exploitation is the LAST thing we (gays) need.』

(DON'T TRUST)
『A FUN FANTASY SOAP. TRUE NOT A TIPICAL ONE BUT A CROSS OF DARK SHADOWS AND DAYS OF OUR LIVES.』

(Innovative, Creative and Intriguing)
『I am always waiting for the next one. Dante's Cove is excellently written and the cast play their parts perfectly. This series has me hooked with the sexy men and wonderful women. I am never taken aback with the early sex scenes, it keeps me waiting for who's next. I love the action and the suspense. Keep it coming!』

(Grows better with each season.)
『This tv series starts with a great story line to tell and no budget to tell it.
Sexy cast with solid acting talelnt. Plan to see great bodies of work for several of these cast members as their film biographies grow.
I had read several reviews from different sources and knew what I was getting into when I purchased this series sight unseen. I do NOT regret my money spent on this series. I have added two members of this cast to my personal list of favorite actors and have gone out in search of their other film work. (:』

(Greatest Ending Ever)
『I saw this movie as a child and loved it. It can be kind of "corny" at times, but then, most of the older movies fall in that catagory now
with all the special effects the newer movies have...but nothing can beat the ending! Telling anyone the ending, who hasn't see this movie
before, would completely ruin the whole experience, so don't do it!! Let them enjoy (yes, even the corny parts), they'll thank you for it...』

(Invasion into my Mind)
『This impressive SCI-FI classic seems to be fairly unknown here in Germany, and although I'm a SCI-FI fan, I was completely unaware of this movie. The first hint came from my daughter, who is a fan of "Navy CIS" and wanted to know more about some SCI-FI flick, which the "DiNozzo"- character was referring to in the episode "Vanished".

When I received this special-edition DVD, I expected a common low-budget B-grade production, but to my surprise, this movie easily ranks with "Rocketship X-M" or "This Island Earth". Personally, I don't mind the somewhat mediocre quality of the video appearance. At any rate, this even adds to the dated and kitchy touch I prefer :-). As far as I understand, the original film material has been degraded over the years due to inadequate storage, and although digital remastering could have removed the worst hisses and scratches, it also would have altered some of the finer details of the original footage. After all, the video quality is not that bad, and after watching the movie a while, I didn't notice the defects anymore.

The stock footage which was used to depict the military build-up against the martians is a little long-winded, but nowadays it has some documentary value in its own right, and I appreciate this, too (think of the Northrop flying-wing in "War of the Worlds").

I think this DVD might be fun even for people like me, who haven't seen this film in their youth. In any case it is well worth the money, if only to support those people who salvaged and restored this classic movie.』

(gets stuck)
『I remembered watching this film with a girlfriend so I wanted to get it. It broke up and got stuck in places and I winded up just turning it off. I was very disappointed with the digital format. I still love the film, but guess it is too old to load properly on a dvd.』

(Awesome old movie)
『If you want a part of our past to return and see an older low budget movie....this is the one for you....brought back memories of my childhood...Wow...Invaders from Mars in it's original version...I loved it! Great late night popcorn in hand kinda movie when you want to see a simple movie without making your mind think too hard on the plot...』

(A WONDERFUL OLD SCI FI MOVIE!!!)
『I was thrilled to get this movie, hadnt seen it since my teen age years and I loved it then. It is still as wonderful as I remember! The newer version is good, funny too, but this original one is still one of my favorite old sci fi movies.』
『A young boy is awakened during a storm to witness a flying saucer land in the field behind his home. No one will believe his story as, one by one, the townspeople are captured and put under the control of sinister forces from the planet Mars! Brilliantly created by visionary set designer and director William Cameron Menzies (designer of "Gone with the Wind" and H.G. Wells' "Things to Come") with a haunting musical score by Raoul Kraushaar, this golden age sci-fi classic has lost none of its chilling power. Surreal imagery brought to terrifying life in a Cinecolor world just beyond our nightmares!』
『The cold-war paranoia of the McCarthy era had America in its grip when the originalInvaders from Marswas released in 1953, and this atmospheric, highly influential science fiction film--the first of its kind to be filmed in color--was perfectly in tune with the mood of its time. Jimmy Hunt plays the quintessential American boy of the post-war years--a freckle-faced kid named David who's curious, alert, and possibly prone to elaborate flights of fancy. Then, during a midnight thunderstorm, he witnesses the landing of a flying saucer that buries itself underground in a nearby field. David's father (Leif Erickson) indulges his son's urging to investigate... and thus begins a bizarre and chilling story of alien invasion, with David's cries of "Martians!" falling on deaf ears as more and more adults are abducted, probed, and placed under alien control.

Designed and directed by William Cameron Menzies (one of the greatest production designers of Hollywood's golden age, whose credits includeGone with the Wind), this eerie little thriller benefits from Menzies's skill at combining physical settings with psychological undercurrents of paranoid terror and resistance against the alien threat. It's still most effective for younger viewers, with Jimmy Hunt providing the story's youthful point of view. And although the malevolent aliens look campy now, with a leader who resembles a bubble-brained squid in a fishbowl,Invaders from Marsremains one of the seminal science fiction films of its time, paving the way forThe War of the Worldsand the rapidly developing trend of alien-invasion thrillers.--Jeff Shannon

(Eraserhead, Extremely Weird, but Fun...)
『Although Eraserhead is a very slow movie, mostly quiet (there is dialogue, but not as much as a typical movie), and in black&white, the movie itself is extremely weird, which to me, translates as fun.

Now, for normal movie viewers, this movie would be a long, pointless bore. I showed this movie to some friends and I was banned from picking a movie to watch ever again.

But I find the movie to be great. I still have yet to figure out the plot line, but the basic overall premise is:

Henry, while on vacation from being a printer, is invited to his (ex girlfriends, one night stand? Not sure) dinner with her family. Finds out she has had a baby (well, they are not sure it is a baby) that was extremely premature. They move in together, she goes back home after being frustrated with the mutant babies cries.
Henry has an affair with his next door neighbor, and she goes on to turn out to be a whore when she comes home with another man.
Eventually, Henry cuts the babies wrappings, and turns out that the baby's wrappings were holding in its organs.

That is the basic premise, but full of weird and odd occurences, such as: A singing deformed lady who lives in Henry's radiator, stomping mutant sperms/fetuses, Henry's head falling off and being picked up by a kid who takes it to an eraser making factory, and plenty of screen time for the crying mutant baby.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who wishes to experience an extremely odd film. Anyone who is looking for a regular good movie would probably be bored, or shocked by this movie.』

(Lynch Embraces rare role of film-maker/poet in the manner of Cocteau)
『Most have felt the surrealistic sensibility of this film. Yet, wasn't it that way with Cocteau? And, wasn't Cocteau who named a film about a painter (and himself and art in general) 'The Blood of a Poet.' So why do I say poet-filmaker? Well, in a broad sense we could say that all film is literature, but most film deals heavily with the development of plot (narrative). And what can a poet throw out? This very thing for the purposes of pursuing the freest figurations and self-expressions. Of course, when events are placed in a sequence, we can always call the cohesive (enough anyway) flow of 'events' plot. Yet, when, whether or not the 'events' have taken place on the same universe (as the prefix 'uni' implies that the various states cohere in some way and operate under the same fundamental laws) what we have is something other than narrative in a film operating as the cohesive thread. There is no getting to the bottom of this film. If an artist could 'say' or show something without doing the art, art would never be created. Anyone that has studied Shakespeare understands that ambiguity is one of the most powerful means of evoking meaning. It is the spectator who will have to untie these intricate knots. The ambiguity is then, an invitation. Perhaps the most ambiguous film yet produced is a grand triumph for the fans by virtue rather than in spite of its absolute resistance to claims of finding resolution&closure. Yet there are enough lurid parallels to invoke the spirit of an initiated viewer's 'visionary reading.' So? We provide the thread, but without the medium we wouldn't want to. I've been out on my porch thinking, 'I'm on to this Eraserhead thing now.' Then I get curious and turn on the movie only to find that my abstractions are once again blown away by the particular forms, sounds, imagery, language, in short, everything that Lynch has at his disposal (he uses it all well and considers it carefully. Man, aren't those Fats Waller organ pieces perfect!). And I think that present film-makers would do well to learn from Lynch and Cocteau as well. Let's face it: film can appeal to our senses and sensibilities in so many ways that we can be moderately 'entertained' by unambitious trash. But, as for making an art of it, the only filmmaker I can think of that consistently produced movies of this caliber is Fritz Lang. And he new well how to use image--if not surreal, certainly not ordinary. 'Video' in Latin means 'I see.' And for today's film-makers, this mostly means very mundane things. The vast majority of films being produced are hardly worth calling mediocre because it is actually disgusting that billions of dollars are being spent on them (to make and to view). Alas, people even like them. The 'video' that is 'I see with my intellect' and will reveal with imagery more akin to the the mind's eye is a rare thing to pull off. It's hard enough to find a movie with good acting and a decent plot that is not so hackneyed that I want to vomit. Though I earlier compared Cocteau to Lynch, I think Lynch has far exceeded Cocteau. As for Lynch's other films, the one most akin to this by virtue of its highly 'poetic' revelation is Inland Empire. I highly recommend it and believe that Lynch was very brave for creating a film that he knew would very likely displease even many of his fans. I recommend giving I. E. a chance. It can be painful at first, but I've learned when to watch it (it's definitely not every night, and it's far from pleasant). Everything Lynch has done (with the exception of Dune) is worth owning and watching several times a year for me. Lynch digs pretty deep into thematic explorations that sometimes span several projects, and I don't think after Blue Velvet the sadistic man ever really left his mind. I mention this because the spirit behind Eraserhead was growing from '70 (and probably before). A great treasure is the release of The Short Films of David Lynch. Whereas with Twin peaks you can see strong parallels with Blue Velvet, there's not much for Eraserhead. But the Grandmother and the Alphabet, though short, place this film in a slightly larger context.

David Lynch's Inland Empire (Limited Edition Two-Disc Set)
The Short Films of David Lynch』

(Wow, try wrapping your mind around this!!!)
『For those of you who haven't seen this movie and you dig surreal...the buck stops here. Watching Eraserhead is like being fed LSD and then inserted into someone else's nightmare. This film is truly head and shoulders above anything else in the cult/surreal/whatever genre. David Lynch is definitely the "Grand Poobah" of movies that will trip you out.』

(Unsettling Masterpiece!)
『After reading so much about this film, I finally got the chance to see it... what an experience!!! I saw this at midnight, with my laptop and wearing headphones. I was freaked out the whole time but loving every minute of it. It's a hypnotic, unsettling, disturbing, brilliant.... there's nothing like it.

Caution, this is not for everyone. 75% of my friends wouldn't like it for the fact that you really have to love being challenged into interpreting a movie. If you're looking for something like The Ring or House on Haunted Hill, this is NOT for you.

If you haven't seen it, please do so. I also recommend Begotten... not as weird as Eraserhead but equally an unforgettable experience.』

(Packaging)
『The product did not ship well. There was no additional packaging to protect the disk except a tight fitting box and the cover was broken and the disk was scratched.』
『Is it a nightmare or an actual view of a post-apocalyptic world? Set in an industrial town in which giant machines are constantly working, spewing smoke, and making noise that is inescapable, Henry Spencer lives in a building that, like all the others, appears to be abandoned. The lights flicker on and off, he has bowls of water in his dresser drawers, and for his only diversion he watches and listens to the Lady in the Radiator sing about finding happiness in heaven. Henry has a girlfriend, Mary X, who has frequent spastic fits. Mary gives birth to Henry's child, a frightening looking mutant, which leads to the injection of all sorts of sexual imagery into the depressive and chaotic mix.』
『This is where is the Lynchian nightmare began. Though he may have redefined surrealistic cinema in the 1980s and forever altered the face of television in the 90s, for many hardcore fans it is this infamous feature film debut that is David Lynch's crowning achievement. Many words have been used to describeEraserhead(weird, bizarre, frustrating, enlightening, significant, unwatchable, meaningless, and momentous), but there is no denying it is completely unforgettable. As a surreal work of art,Eraserheadeasily holds it own next to the works as Buñuel, Cocteau, and Dali. And like many surrealistic works, there is no clear answer on whatEraserhead"means." But, if you are trying to find a simple, linear, plot inEraserhead, you are clearly missing the point. ForEraserheadis not simply a movie to view, but a true cinematic experience, like jumping into someone's nightmare and seeing it from their perspective. Whether you see it as a meditation on the terror of being a new parent, the suffocating feeling of living in an increasingly vapid, industrial wasteland, or a nightmare about the fear of loneliness, the film easily holds up to multiple viewings. And since this film is a dark visual ride and a supreme aural achievement, this long awaited, new transfer is an absolute blessing for David Lynch fans who will finally get to see, hear and experienceEraserheadclearly on DVD. Bizarre experiment? Surrealistic nightmare? Or a meaningless cult film? You be the judge.--Rob Bracco

(good movie)
『good story good movie (if your into hannibal) movie develops the character more then the other movies. production quality is a little low.』

(Hannibal Rising)
『In Eastern Europe at the end of World War II, a young Hannibal watches as his parents violently die, leaving his young sister in his care. Alone and without any means of support, he is forced to live in a Soviet orphanage. He flees to Paris to find his uncle has died but his Japanese widow, Lady Murasaki (Gong Li) welcomes him. Even her kindness and love cannot soothe the nightmares and sorrows that plague him. Showing a cunning aptitude for science he is accepted into medical school, which serves to hone his skills and provide the tools to exact justice on the war criminals that haunt him day and night. This quest will ignite an insatiable lust within a serial killer who was not born, but made. Entertaining and a surprisingly fitting addition to The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal.

(Really different...but really interesting, fun and gory.)
『Yesterday I rented this movie at the local Blockbuster today I saw it I was expecting something good, really good and that is what I got OK you have seen the silence of the lambs then the sequel Hannibal did not gave you the information you needed to know but I am not judgeing that movie but it gave you the discovery of Mason Verger(Gary Oldman in Hannibal)and Hannibal(Anthony Hopkins in the silence of the lambs,Hannibal and red dragon and Gaspard Urriel in the feature film)being free the whole movie plus a romance with Clarce Starling(Jodie Foster in the silence of the lambs and Julliane Moore in Hannibal)so in 2002 we got a prequel to the silence of the lambs will it reveal how Hannibal began?the answer is...no it just reveals how Will Graham(Edward Norton in red dragon)caugth him and then no killing for our killer Hannibal the cannibal but still quite good so in 2007 we go deep into Hannibal's past the origin of evil so we sometimes start to feel Hannibal not being so evilhe had a rough start at 8 years when the war stared he saw her poor sister being eated do you think he will stay sane the movie is really different and the carachter does not feel like Hannibal it is like because i saw Rob Zombie's Halloween I feel Micheal Myers not beig so bad because he got bullied since he was a child he is misunderstood and so like that movie this movie has lots of details and the gory scences are just violent and well done Hannibal looks so cool when he licks of blood from his hand when he kills some victim.I actually prefer this to the silence of the lambs the movie is entretaining it gives good details of Hannibal's inside sadness and you get to know much of his familiar.Gaspard Uriell is better than Anthony Hopkins.Hannibal also got a very dramatic performance by Aaran Thomas as a 8 year old child that has a lot of courage against thos Nazis that where evil he is not the badguy they are and when Hannibl puts his mask he looks radical and awesome and we learn he actually was going to be a doctor because they call him Doctor Hannibal Lecter but he is just another kind of doctor this movie gives good suspense and over the top kills the movie is a good horror movie that has also alot of drama, action, thrills, suspense, romance, foreing, war, terror and mystery it has a good plot and it is completely written by Thomas Harris the screenplay is done by him the movie starts in happines but then it turns very dramatic, the war themes are big,the kills are thrilling,Hannibal has romance, his aunt is chinese, the movie is horryfieng, there is alot of detective activity, the action is like Hannibal escaping from the orphanage and the silence is kept the main genre is drama but the second is slasher so if you are a drama fan this movie is for you,if you are chinese there is alot of chinese activity the romantic scene is when Hannibal and his aunt kissing and the end may not be romantic but Hannibal's aunt says him to forgive them that feels romantic the movie is a good movie that has a 100,000% of re-watchibility with 100% value of drama, horror, mistery, slasher and war 50% of romance and even though it is rated R a 10% of family and if you get a gory scale from 1 to 5 it is 5% gory movie.Get it now it is totally good and gives you the legacy of Hannibal Lecter.』

(Farcical and campy. Very silly stuff for the sake of a guilty pleasure.)
『The movie is simply this: Hannibal had a bad childhood where his mom and dad died in WWII and his sister was cannibalized by Nazis. From there the movie devolves into a string of silly scenes which work more as parody of the typical revenge flick than as a thriller.

And what scenes there are. The one which stands out in my mind was where his childhood home is converted into a boarding school, where he stands up to one of the bullies and is chastised by the headmaster for picking on bullies! Go figure! And it just gets worse from there.

I've mentioned that this movie is a guilty pleasure. But not because it's a great thriller or its narrative is coherent. Rather, it is easily understood to the point that it's so dumbed down that you can tell that the actors can't even bring themselves to take it all seriously. It's hysterical when it should be serious. For a thriller that's a rather dubious quality to have.

What a long way this series fell from the greatness of "Manhunter" and "Silence". Now all we need is "Hannibal: The Musical" to make the series complete.

(Hannibal Rises To The Ocassion)
『Some people have complained about Thomas Harris writing the screenplay as well as the novel to "Hannibal Rising"; well after the way David Mamet and Steve Zaillion's screenplay butcheded the end of "Hannibal", I am sure that he did not want HIS character getting ruined again. I throughly enjoyed watching Hannibal do away with those who truly deserved it; especially those who killed his sister. I absolutely enjoyed the way he cut down the butcher who was rude to his aunt. It is ashame that the series seems to have come to an end with this book/movie. I will always look forward to any adventures with the good doctor.』
『(Horror/Suspense) The terrifying Silence of the Lambs prequel that reveals the history of the infamous Hannibal and how he came to be a cannibalistic murderer.』
『ThoughHannibal Rising'sLecter (Gaspard Ulliel) is a pussycat compared to Anthony Hopkins inSilence of the Lambs, this sequel's story of revenge is grizzly enough to satisfy lovers of Thomas Harris's epic tale. After young Hannibal (Aaron Thomas) is forced to watch his little sister, Mischa (Helena Lia Tachovska), devoured by starving soldiers in his homeland Lithuania, Hannibal vows to avenge his sister's death by slaying those who committed not only war crimes against the Lecters, but also against other families during WW II. In detailing Hannibal's revenge plan, the film investigates the psychological implications of witnessing cannibalism to justify Hannibal's insatiable appetite for human flesh. The most interesting aspect ofHannibal Rising—its analytical connections drawn between Hannibal's childhood traumas and his murderous adult obsessions—is also the film's weak point. The links oversimplify Lecter's complex character. For example, though titillating to see flashbacks of Lecter's sister hacked up and boiled while Lecter visits a Parisian meat market, the reference is too obvious. One learns why he excels in his medical school classes dissecting cadavers, and we're given explicit explanation for why he slices off and eats his victims' cheeks. The story only complicates when Hannibal interacts with his sexy Aunt, Lady Murasaki (Gong Li). When Murasaki educates him in the art of beheading, the viewer sees Hannibal's sword fetish as a manifestation of physical lust.--Trinie Dalton

(Not good.)
『Definitely not as good as the book nor anime. Has a bit of a different storyline than the book.』

(L, please come back!)
『This was an awesome addition to the Death Note universe. L grows from a robotic, isolated individual to a real live loving and caring human being. I wish they would cheat and find a way to keep L alive - maybe he could have his own series?』

(Suprisingly Entertaining Sequel to "Death Note")
『I was'nt really expecting much from this sequel to the Death Note saga, but I was pleasently surprised by it. The story centers around the strange, always hungry detective from the first two films, "L". This time, he gets involved with a plot by some crazies to release a bio-weapon that will kill millions. But the clock is ticking in more ways than one: L only has a few weeks to live due to his writing his own name in the Death Note book. In my opinion, this film is just as good as the first two and is a great end to the whole story arc. Fans of Asain cinema will love this one as well as those who rarely watch these types of movies.』

(I think it was the best one(:)
『L Change the World is a spin-off of Death Note.

In my opinion I liked this one better then the first too. They had a great story line and it shows you what L did the last 23 days he had left to live. You even get to meet some other people from Wammy's. It's pretty great.

This movie is just mainly for the big L fans out there. If you love L then I bet you would like this movie.

Ever since I got it i've watched it ALOT! I'm kinda addicted to it. xD and I've even started acting like L more xD

Anyway, I highly reccomend you watch this movie(:』

(Viva la France!)
『The first time I watched "Frontiers", going in with these huge expectations, I was not only amazed (and somewhat appalled) at what I was watching, but how the film had surpassed the hype. I was genuinely shocked at what was unfolding before me. "Frontiers" is horrendous, but in a truly positive sense. It's hateful, and brutal, and violent, and anti-human. But I loved it! I was so happy I had bought the DVD from Amazon instead of renting it.

Last night I re-watched it with three of my friends, none of which had heard of the movie and who barely knew the plot other than what I vaguely explained while the commericials were rolling. At the end one of my friends was crying, and she couldn't even tell me why. Another said he didn't feel like doing anything, that he was emotionally-drained and felt like going to bed, while the last one said she felt "weird" and for the rest of the night remained silent. Without exaggeration... that's how powerful and gritty this film is.

Some bash it for being derivative of things such as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "The Hills Have Eyes" and even "House of 1000 Corpses", and while there are parallels and I cannot fault them for saying so, the movie does what it does very well (better than those three installments) and I think it was more of a homage to those other quality horrors.

It's fair to say when watching a movie with such a shock factor involved, things like acting and direction fall leeway; taking up the passenger seat and letting the violence lead. Such is not the case in "Frontiers". The acting on all levels is great, even stupendous in a few cases -- each character adding his or her own little bit to the story and cranking up the believability. Katrina Testa as Yasmine deserves mad props especially, during the film's second half her acting is just so raw and real you want to hug her and never let go.

The characterization is great. Before the craziness sets in the film devotes a good 30 minutes or so to acquainting us to the characters and really making you like them. This makes what eventually happens to them all the more devastating.

The cinematography is very crisp and fresh -- especially notable during the opening scene. It captures the bleak atmosphere of the film beautifully, to the rolling hills of the France-Luxembourg boarder to the depths of the Von Geisler chambers.

I feel like I'm rambling, and quite honestly I feel at the same time I have not written enough of how AWESOME this movie is.

All lengthy paragraphs aside, and if you can stomach brutality -- watch, buy, love "Frontiers".

10/10』

(TCM in French?)
『I'm going to be totally honest, so you know where this review is coming from:

#1) I am not a fan of blatant movie remakes. When I say blatant, I mean anything that has the exact title of the old classic they are remaking, to the movie that changed the name, but rips off so much from another movie they might as well have called it a remake. This year's Frontier(s) is the latter.

#2) I do not like subtitles. It's not because I don't like to read, I just find that I am not experiencing the movie entirely because sometimes I am making the choice to either catch either the text or the visuals out of the corner of my eye as I focus on the other. I guess it would help if I just studied all the languages so I could watch movies without subtitles, but I'm just too lazy. Movie-dubbing usually doesn't do the trick either, so it's a lose-lose situation for me. Frontier(S) is a French flick, therefore it uses subtitles.

Frontier(s) is a horror film that follows four criminals who rob something(they don't tell us what, but there's a big sack of money with them and the police are after them) during a series of political riots after a conservative regime takes over in Paris, France. They split up and flee to the country-side, and arrive at a hostel that, to their surprise later, is run by a family of cannibalistic Nazis, the leader of the family, Le Von Geisler, probably being ex-Gestapo. They find this out the hard way. Through a series of ordeals that brings new light to the term "dog eat dog world" and busloads of blood, the characters learn that even outside of society there is corruption and greed, and purity is in the eye of the beholder.

The gore in this movie is exceptional. From a normal gun-shot blowing apart someone's hand to the beautiful use of a table-saw, the blood is strewn with a Frontier(s) bloody image shotgunheavy brush. It is so gruesome that the producer of the movie, After Dark Films, had to pull it from their After Dark Horrorfest series because of an NC-17 rating by the MPAA. It was either that or edit it a bit. I think they made the right choice.

The story and symbolism is quite good too. Although it is a horror movie, it is an intelligent horror movie, besides the TCM rip-off, which I will get to later. Of course a Nazi would be hiding out in the middle of nowhere in France, having his family kill impure visitors and eat their flesh. Of course the family would be inbred. Of course the only law in the area happens to be the eldest son of the family, negating any sense of justice for outsiders. All of this, and it works. By the end of the movie, the farce that this family has concocted is just as real as the real world, where politicians are corrupt and using people to their whim. Heavy-handed? A bit, but at least it has more of a brain then the usual slasher movie.

The problems of free use of elements from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre start once we get to the hostel, and they don't stop until close to the end. Instead of a feeble old man being fed at the dinner table(grandpa in TCM), we have the family's mother, who is actually spitting out the food(we find out what it is made of later on.) We also have the family police officer, the only law-man in this party of the country, blocking off the road to their house to make sure they don't have party-crashers as they hunt down these kids. He's like R. Lee Ermey from the TCM remake, without the comedic twist.

The greatest massacre to a horror figurehead is Goetz, the French Leatherface of the film. He plays the executioner/butcher beautifully, but he acts way too much like Leatherface, even without a chainsaw. The most annoying point is when he is chasing two of the criminals in a car, yelling and squealing like a pig, just like Leatherface. The problem is, Goetz speaks fluent French, unlike Leatherface who can only grunt and squeal. It seems too forced. They could have Goetz looking like a wild dog without giving him a transcription of Leatherface monologues. Maybe I'm being too harsh.

All in all, this movie is worth a rental at least. The political intrigue and human interaction are worth experiencing, as well as the buckets of blood』

(well done French extreme horror film....)
『after viewing the film...my thoughts were: wow, this was a really good horror film. The acting was very good, believable (especially the lead actress); the emotional tension / visual blood scenes / physical violence were mixed together well. I even liked the soundtrack, which fit perfectly to create a sense of unease.

the plot is somewhat reminiscent of the recent (2003) re-make of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". (Group of young people get trapped in an isolated area by a family of psychotics). Also had a few plot elements of "Hostel".

I thought the various fight / conflict scenes between the characters was well-done- the sound effects, level of violence, and misery was felt at the gut-level as a viewer.

My only complaint: the first part of the film (first 20 minutes) wasn't really needed, and could have been cut out of the film. Rest of the film flows very well.

pleasant surprise that horror fans will appreciate..』

(FUN-TIER(S)!)
『If you don't speak or understand French fluently, have no fear. Do what I did and watch Frontier(s) without all of the distracting subtitles, and you'll enjoy the gore and cool action all the same. Yea, just turn the subtitles off altogether. You don't need words to explain what you'll be pleasantly shocked to see. You'll get it, trust me. Yet another wise buy from the folks at Amazon. Thanks.』

(BLOODY !!!)
『this is one of the better horrorfest movies . if I was just rating the horrorfest I would probably give this 5 stars but as an over all movie I have seen better horror films . if you wanna go on blood alone this is a 5 star movie but as far as it being scary I would give this a 1 star . it was a good movie and worth watching but there were some parts that drug on (like the first 30 min of the movie) and it was all subtitled . I can watch movies that are subtitled , some of them are very good (like Pan's Labrenth and the Orphanage) but for some reason it was if it went to fast and you payed more attention trying to keep up with the reading it took your focus away from some of the movie . I payed $7 for this movie and it was worth it . when you watch this movie just keep in mind that this is one of the horrorfest movies , if you like the horrorfest collections then you will probably like this .』

(American Werewolf in London Special Edition)
『Two American students are on a walking tour of England and are attacked by a Werewolf. One is killed, the other is mauled. The Werewolf is killed, but reverts to it's human form, and the townspeople are able to deny it's existence. The surviving student begins to have nightmares of hunting on 4 feet at first, but then finds that his friend and other recent victims appear to him, demanding that he find a way to die to release them from their curse, being trapped between worlds because of their unnatural death. A near definitive werewolf movie that's bloody, scary, funny, satirical, intelligent, sexy, charming and ultimately sad. With a soundtrack that's perfectly placed, and composer Elmer Bernstein perfectly placing the music. Grab the popcorn and hang on folks.

(American Werewolf in London)
『Good old movie. Grandchildren, seeing it for the first time, were not nearly as frighten as I was the first time I saw it.』

(Best werewolf movie ever? I think so)
『As much as An American Werewolf in London deserves an essay of praise, I would merely be preaching to the choir if I did so at this point. Not only the best werewolf movie ever made, but it ranks up there as one of the best horror films ever made.

Two American fellas traveling through rural England experience an unexpected disruption in their trip when they are attacked by a genuine werewolf. David, is the young man who survives the ordeal, but not without a price. He is now a werewolf himself, and worse yet, his victims are doomed to wander the earth in limbo until David is killed, or takes his own life.

Every aspect of An american Werewolf in London is top notch, and it is among the most revered titles in the horror/comedy genre. An essential film for any movie fanatic, if you've never seen it, it is recommended you do so.』

(Favorite)
『This is one of my favorite horror movies. There is some funny parts to the movie.』

(AAOOOH Werewolves of London!!)
『I saw this movie in the theaters back in 1981 and was so happy to see Rick Baker win the first Oscar for best special effects make up! That whole transformation scene is classic and very impressive. It is both amusing and painful to watch. The wolf in this movie makes me feel real terror and fear. There are several scenes in London that make me grimace and tense up, even though I have seen this before. I bought this on BluRay disc because this movie needs to be seen in HD. I have always been a fan of all types of horror. There are very few movies that can mix humor with horror well for me to recommend but London does. It will always be on my list of best horror films. This is a much, much, much, better film than An American Werewolf in Paris. Get this movie either on DVD or BluRay, you won't be sorry!! ( I just have to ask myself, the ones that gave it one or two stars, are they even old enough to appreciate this movie?)』
『A new york student becomes the scourge of london after being bitten by a beast on the moors. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 08/23/2005 Starring: David Naughton Mark Fisher Run time: 97 minutes Rating: R Director: John Landis』
『Remember back in the early 1980s when special-effects makeup artists were tripping over themselves to create the next big effect? The Howlingboasted a fantastic werewolf transformation scene courtesy of makeup wizard Rob Bottin. Then along came Bottin's mentor, Rick Baker, with his own spectacular effects in this popular horror comedy directed by John Landis. An American Werewolf in Londonis more of a makeup showcase than a truly satisfying movie, but the film is effectively moody when David Naughton discovers that a wolf attack has turned him into a bloodthirsty lycanthrope. Jenny Agutter plays his love interest (watch out, he bites!), and who can forget Griffin Dunne as Naughton's best friend, an undead corpse who progressively rots away as the plot unfolds? All things considered, it's easy to see whyAn American Werewolf in Londonbecame a modern horror favorite.--Jeff Shannon
