(A-OK) 『Half of one episode was messed up but it most likely had nothing to do with the seller. Package was sealed and brand spankin' new.』
(A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 『Season 2 and 3 are the best seasons of the series. They are must haves』
(Great Show wonderful series.) 『I like this show, I have all 5 seasons you never know what is gonna happen in this series, good guys die come back dont come back, vampires ghosts you never know. I fine it different from most shows where you can guess the ending this one you cant.』
(Slim Set means..............) 『I had season 3- 5 but then a couple weeks ago they offered by one get one TV DvD sets so I finally got season 1 and 2 of Angel.
Original release of this DVD meant unfolding 4 pages of a terribly cumbersome set.
Then they went to what I thought was the "slimset" which was individual cases for every other disc. That is nice too. First time I saw that was with the seasons of Arrested Development Season discs. This is not that.
Slimset in this case means one DVD case that has 6 easy to access discs. Best yet. If you are looking to buy Angel dvds, get the slimset.
Per usual delivery was fast and free (I love super saving shipping!).』 『Angel continues to seek redemption, but a fatal mistake makes him realize that racking up the body count isn’t the way to go. So with a renewed sense of purpose and Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn at his side, Angel sets out to make the streets of Los Angeles a little safer for everyone – unaware that Wolfram&Hart has summoned someone from his past to make sure he fails.』 『The second season ofAngelsaw the cult vampire show finally stand on its own fromBuffy the Vampire Slayer, assembling all the members of the show's core cast, transferring the action to a fashionably run-down L.A. hotel, and bringing in a fewBuffycharacters from Angel's history to further establish the moody vampire's own mythology. Moving their Angel Investigations to posher digs, Angel (David Boreanaz), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), and Wesley (Alexis Denisof) were soon joined by street fighter (J. August Richards)–-and by street fighter, of course we mean demon street fighter. But just as this group was solidifying, up popped Angel's old love, Darla (the fantastic Julie Benz), freshly arrived in L.A. from a hell dimension… just in time to be turned into a vampire again by her old cohort, Drusilla (JulietLandau), and lure Angel into abandoning his newly formed team. It was the best and worst of times forAngelin its second year, for while the basis was being set for the show's stellar third and fourth seasons, dramatic tension was diluted by Angel's going solo and the necessary (but plot-debilitating) flashbacks to various points in Angel's history. However, just when it seemed everything was about to fly out the window,Angel's creative team threw its characters for a loop--literally--by transporting them to the demon dimension of Pylea, a medieval-style fantasyland populated by monsters and humans alike. It shouldn't have worked, as hokey as it was... but it did, thanks to crack storytelling, sharp dialogue, and the sheer joy the actors unleashed, especially the gifted and fiendishly funny Carpenter. The second half of the season also saw the addition of two ofAngel's best characters: the horned Lorne (Andy Hallett), a green demon with a penchant for karaoke, and Fred (Amy Acker), a physicist trapped in Pylea who helped the gang engineer their escape. With these two in tow,Angelbegan to soar. --Mark Englehart』

It has originality along with a cast of colorful and crazy characters. I am baffled by some of the negative reviews regarding this movie. People who didn't like it must be the soft, sensative type that only love cheesy horror movies like Hocus Pocus. This movie is not for the squeemish or faint hearted. It is very graphic and deals with a family of twisted killers in the 1970's who torture their victims in their rundown shack. It has a very dark circus freak/Pshycedelic feel to it that keeps you at the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. Don't let the negative reviews fool you, check this movie out and you be the judge for yourself.』
(Like the movie BUT) 『I enjoyed the DVD of this title very much. Unlike many people I talk to, I thought it was a great ride. BUT....I am guessing it wasn't Robs choice to remove the Sid Haig menu intro from the bluray version (which is probably the most talked about part of the film) I recieved the bluray today and was very disappointed to see that his hilarious intro was removed from this version. BUMMER!』
(Definate horror movie!) 『If you are a horror movie fan, this movie is for you! A kind of Texas Chainsaw massacre family, but with alot more thrills. It is fun to watch, very entertaining, gory, kookie, graphic. Characters are awesome!』
(Pass on diner with the Firefly family) 『The other night Sid started backwards by watching Devil's Rejects before it's predecessor House of 1000 Corpses. Thanks yet again to our on-demand station that made this one came available while all the characters were still fresh on the mind. Have to say despite a lot of the reviews this was one very creepy flick that takes place with a very uncomfortable situation. That situation would be getting stranded in some hick town to be welcomed in by a family that turns out to be serial killers also housing the local legend known as Dr. Satan. Yeah it was absolutely as crazy as it sounds, and Sid loved it.
The movie starts out with 2 couples who are on the road looking to write a book about the countries strange roadside attractions. The first stop they hit is Captain Spauldings fried chicken and gasoline, that also has a funhouse type tour. While there they learn the legend of Dr. Satan and decide to take off in hopes of finding the tree he hung from. Once there car breaks down after piking up a hitchhiker named Daisy (Rob Zombies tasty wife) all the fun begins. We are introduced to the ultra-physcotic Firefly family that couple well with Leatherface's relatives. In addition they house Dr. Satan who performs experiments on people they catch while they're still alive. Some actual creepy moments, which is so rare in film.
So very surprisingly House of 1000 Corpses was one of the better horror films Sid has seen in sometime. The way it was shot was very dark with hints black comedy and a lot of tripped out imagery. It almost seemed like certain scenes were made for those viewers kicking back stoned out of their minds. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Now obviously it is nearly impossible to be scared by a film, but this one had a lot of creepy elements especially toward the end. When they finally found the Dr, who looked like the crypt-keeper with an oxygen mask on, and his butler the giant axe maniac the scenes got very tense. Just the thought of coming across that would freak anyone out. So yes we really enjoyed and would have years back thanks to all the scares and Sheri Zombie nudity.』
(The birth of Rob Zombie as horror movie genius) 『Rob Zombie's first foray into horror moviemaking as director and creator is a little piece of bloody heaven. While some say the flick is too campy, the origination of the Firefly family that continues into The Devils Rejects is pure sublime pagan slasher fantasy. When four unsuspecting young adults stumble onto this cannibalistic family in search of the legendary Dr. Satan, the film spirals into its awesome culimantion with two of the coolest villians - and one of the greatest extended B-movie horror scenes - in recent history: Dr. Satan and the Professor. This film represents the early blueprint of Zombie's horror moviemaking genius.』 『Two young couples take a misguided tour onto the back roads of America in search of a local legend known as Dr. Satan. Lost and stranded, they are set upon by a bizarre family of psychotics. Murder, cannibalism, and sataninc rituals are just a few of the 1000+ horrors that await.』 『It's sick! It's twisted! It'sHouse of 1,000 Corpses, and it's more fun than a wholesome bowl of "Agatha Crispies"! Dropped by two studios (Universal and MGM) and doomed to obscurity until Lions Gate Films gave it a limited theatrical release, Rob Zombie's gonzo horror flick is a blood-spattered throwback to the gore-fests of the '70s, lending new meaning to the term "box-officegross." Most critics misunderstood this unbridled exercise in graphic style and violence, but for devoted horror buffs it's a refreshing rebuttal to the comparatively "polite" frights of the post-Screamera. While paying homage toThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre,Last House on the Left,Motel Hell, and other gory classics, Zombie's ramshackle plot (two young couples are terrorized by an inbred family of homicidal maniacs) lacks a crucial sense of dread, but his pastiche of vivid colors, grainy fetish-films, and photo-negative imagery is guaranteed to hold your attention. Alfred Hitchcock's landmark in the genre of the horror film has never looked better. Why this film was overlooked by the Academy of Motion Pictures is one of greatest sins in film history. (A Groundbreaking Classic) 『Although we can see this movie just about any Halloween season, I decided to buy it for our collection. This movie was groundbreaking in its time. It's odd that we know everything that's going to happen but it still gives me the shivers. Everything came together in "Psycho." An original script; terrific acting; music that is as essential to the fright scenes as the script; and an ending that you never see coming. Of course if you've seen the movie once, you know how it ends. But in the 50's none of this was ever done, especially by actors of Janet Leigh's status.
After all these years, I still find it chilling.
』
(Psycho w excellent transfer and good extras) 『I remember watching Psycho on TV when I was around 12-13 years old. I still remember the shocking parts well. 25 years later I thought that I remembered it so well that I wasn't particularly interested in re-watching it. Anyway, finally I bought the 'Universal Legacy Series' edition DVD, and I'm glad for it. First of all, the transfer/picture quailty of this DVD is fantastic (just like Vertigo in the same series). I watched it on a projector. And the movie is far better than I remembered, the actors are excellent and the black/white photography superb. Ok, you can always make a remark about the explanatory psychiatric speech in the end, but this was a requirement at the time to get it through the censorship! This, and other fascinating things, is explained in the interesting commentary track, well worth listening to after watching the film.』
(A classic!!) 『What is there to say, This is a fantastic classic that one must have and have watched a hundred times. It is a great movie. The famous shower scene is that famous, Anthony Perkins was wonderful as Norman. I can't say enough about it. You must have the movie in your collection. If you don't collect movies at least watch it. It's great.』
(Janet Leigh ... and the road not taken.) 『The plot of this movie is wrong, all wrong.
First of all, why does Janet Leigh have to steal 40Gs from her boss' business? Why break the law? My version of this movie sees Janet Leigh not as a thief on the lam from the law but rather as ... a real estate agent. (Yeah, yeah that's the ticket!) A real estate agent out in the boondocks looking for a way to make a quick buck off some funky old property.
Get the picture? ("Yes, we see.")
There's anorexic, skinny-butt Janet driving along one backroad after another, dollar signs for eyeballs, and, lo and behold, she comes to -- that's right, that's right! -- THE BATES MOTEL!
Smirking, she says to herself: "Lemme go in and see what kind of a schnook owns *this* dump."
So she goes in, starts talking to Norman; next thing you know she's got Norman signing a no-interest, balloon payment, one-born-every-minute mortgage contract.
Norman, also anorexic, financially as well as physically, naturally can't come up with the jack and in a few months, like all natural born schnooks, he defaults on the mortgage, declares bankruptcy and the Bates Motel becomes a diner -- MOM'S HOME COOKIN'.
Norman, reduced to the role of mere employee, serves famished, bisexual truck drivers in drag (Norman, that is, not the bisexual truck drivers). Whilst Marty Balsam ("Mister Ar-bur-gas"), stopping for a quick bite, has a gas attack after eating a Mexican tortilla allegedly cooked between the thighs of Carmen Miranda -- AND SUES!
Norman and Janet decide to bump off Ar-bur-gas by placing a Chiquita banana, posthumously autographed by Errol Flynn, at the top of the stairs. Ar-bur-gas slips, falls, survives --AND SUES AGAIN!
Now Janet and Norman decides to convert MOM'S HOME COOKIN' into a combination dinner theatre, law office and cockatoo sanctuary. The first play they put on is "I Remember Big Fat Mama," with Oprah Winfrey as B.F. Mama and Anthony Perkins as her still-anorexic but game concubine.
The play flops, the dinner theatre sues itself, peace is declared in our time and Alfred Hitchcock's rear end is replaced by a United Fruit box.』 『One of the most shocking films of all time, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, is now available as a new 2-Disc Special Edition! Join the Master of Suspense on a chilling journey as an unsuspecting victim (Janet Leigh) visits the Bates Motel and falls prey to one of cinema’s most notorious psychopaths – Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins).
Named #1 on the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Thrills list, this notorious film has become a cultural phenomenon. Featuring one of the most iconic scenes in film history - the famous “shower scene” – plus new bonus features and digitally remastered picture, Psycho is “still terrifying after all these years” (Leonard Maltin’s Classic Movie Guide).』

("That's right. Who's laughing now?!") 『Whether it's a sequel or a remake, it doesn't matter once the film starts. This is the second installment in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series, and it's one of the few sequels (or "remake" if you want to call that) that is equal to the original. It's just as diabolical, with some twisted moments that will no doubt be implanted in the brains of those who watch them. I think the only difference here is that the black humor is more constant than in the original. There is one scene in which Ash (Bruce Campbell) discovers that his hand is possessed by an evil spirit, and from then on, some diabolical hilarity ensues. The entire film is basically a perfect mix of horror, blood, slapstick, gore, and over-the-top edginess. It's actually one of the better horror films in recent decades. Sure, it may not be like The Exorcist, The Shining, or George A. Romero's zombie films, but the entire Evil Dead series stands on its own as a scary&darkly hilarious bloodfest. Kudos to Raimi and Campbell.』
(The Worst Blu Ray Ever Made) 『Big fan of the film and Raimi's low-budget comedy horror stylings, but this has to rank as the worst blu ray I regret to own. If you upgraded to hi def for the picture quality, don't bother with this one. Its absolutely shocking, with terrible use of noise reduction that gives everything a wax-like appearance. Go with the book of the dead edition until Anchor Bay fixes this mess.』
(Bobby Joe!) 『This movie has a lot of splatter but very little scares but that's okay. It's an entertaining movie. I haven't seen the first Evil Dead movie but from what I've read the plot is very similar. On the audio commentary it is funny to hear Bruce Campbell talk about filming the movie and mention that it was pretty much the exact same cabin from the first movie. Ash, that durn fool. Why did he go back? Seeing Ash put a chainsaw on his severed stump was pretty cool. Another funny bit was when one of the female characters gets lost in the woods and the dumb fat guy forces the others to look for her shouting "BOBBY JOE!" repeatedly. For a few days after viewing the movie whenever I was looking for something be it keys or wallet I would yell "BOBBY JOE!" It is a funny film with over the top energy.
P.S.Ash didn't seem to show much hesitation in decapitating his girlfriend did he? I mean she's clearly possessed but you would expect a little hand wringing before brutally murdering your lover not 'oh she's evil now...kill.' P.P.S."BOOOOBBBBYYYY JOOOOOOOEEEE!!!! Where are ya girl? BOOOOOOBBBBBYYY JOOOOOOEEEE!"』
(Goood movie, but not a good BR buy) 『Well I already knew the movie and I liked it before, but now that I think about it, what's the purpose of buying a BR of a grainy old movie? To see it "clearly" grainy? Anyways, think I would've been better off just buying the regular DVD. So, movies OK, but BR what's the point?』 『Anchorbay Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn [Blu-ray]Writer-director Sam Raimi's extremely stylized, blood-soakedfollow-up to his creepy Evil Dead isn't really a sequel; rather, it's a remake on a better budget. (An Important Film) 『This film is infamous in many ways. It has what is believed to be the longest rape scene in movie history (approximately a half hour of brutally graphic violence). It also features a castration scene that caused many theater goers at the time to throw up. It has been banned in numerous countries, and most professional movie critics have labeled this film one of the worst ever. I don't agree at all.
Camille Keaton does a brilliant job playing a rape victim who ultimately gets brutal revenge against her attackers. The rapists display the worst possible male qualities and do so in a very believable way. As a male, I found this a bit nauseating. But as part of the film, it is very effective.
The directing and overall cinematography are very well done and (famously) done without a soundtrack. I believe this is a very important film within the horror genre (although it is more suspenseful than scary) and is also a significant part of film history in general.
The title and cover image for this film seem to portray the movie as a low quality "skin flick." That's not the case at all. It's extremely graphic and disturbing, but in a artistic and quality way. Just don't plan on watching it as part of family movie night at your home. I don't think anybody under the age of 18 should see this film.
Other than the cover image, the DVD presentation is well done and includes trailers, reviews, movie posters, etc. 』
(The pinnacle of rape/revenge) 『When a movie basically starts off with a writer retiring to a remote cabin, and one of the first things she does there on her first visit is skinny dip, you know you are watching 70s horror. When the entirety of the remaining minutes fall into the categories of gruesome rape or brutal revenge for the rape, then you know you're watching the controversial classic, I Spit on Your Grave.
Director Meir Zarchi's produced this assault on human decency in the late 70s, and it's as resonant now as it was then. Jennifer Hill (Camille Keaton) secludes herself to a small wooded Connecticut town to write her newest novel. When she attracts the attention of a few local deviants and their retarded friend, however, she ends up with a life altering experience that dwarfs any possible story she could write. When she plans her revenge, however, the story, specifically the second most disgusting bathtub scene in cinema history (the first is with a naked Kathy Bates), celebrates revenge that knows no boundaries.
From beginning to end, this movie transfixes the viewer with an indelible image of betrayal, rape, and revenge that is seared into memory. Seeing a group of four men, one of which is mentally handicapped, brutalize an innocent women multiple times - all with a harmonica performance from one of the criminals - is something that never leaves one's memory; and I'm surprised the harmonica in this movie is not compared to the infamous banjo in Deliverance.
It's quite interesting that multiple decades after this film, the Western audience has made a movement - good or bad is up for interpretation - making the type of depravity seen in the current torture porn flicks acceptable to view, even on prime time television, yet the filming of a rape is still considered taboo and unwatchable. The reluctance to air this film, despite the ever-widening audience toleration, truly displays how gruesome and memorable this groundbreaking exploitation film was when released. Zarchi explains in the commentary that this not about celebrating a crime and inspiring the sick minded. He wanted to expose the sheer disgust that should be associated with rape, to break the boundaries of tolerance, to disturb all but the sociopath. Given this film's legacy, I'd say Zarchi succeeded in his quest.
This is the pinnacle of the rape/revenge genre, and should be watched by fans of both horror and overall cinema history...just don't expect to feel good when the credits roll.』
(a good movie from the old days) 『I saw this movie when I was a child and I didnt remember it until my mother asked me to look for it. I remembered it and bought for her. we both love watching it.』
(Revenge never looked so good...) 『Cult classic film with controversial content throughout.
Referenced many times over, including in Wes Craven's SCREAM ( Tatum in the garage scene: "What movie is this from? 'I spit on your Garage'?) and considered a horror classic and must have, I Spit On Your Grave is a movie to compare others in its genre to.
After a writer from the city rents a summer house on a lake, to get some quiet writing time, she is attacked by 4 locals and brutaly raped and beaten, many times over. But this is only the begining of the macobe and mayhem to occur that summer.
Unforgettable graphic scenes, especially one including a bath tub dismemberment, I Spit On Your Grave is sure to stick in your mind as one of the most memorable cult classic horror films to date.』 『Elite Entertainment proudly presents the next entry in the famed MILLENNIUM EDITION DVD series: Meir Zarchi s I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE a.k.a. DAY OF THE WOMAN. Filled with the bonus materials you ve come to expect from Elite s MILLENNIUM EDITION series, this highly anticipated DVD release tells the tale of Jennifer Hills, a magazine writer from New York City who retires to a secluded cabin in the woods to write her first novel. There she is brutally assaulted, raped and left for dead by four country boys. BUT JENNIFER IS ALIVE. Emotionally destroyed, she no longer writes her novel; instead she finds herself choreographing a horrific revenge scheme to inflict punishment on her four assailants in methods such as the screen has never seen before! Originally titled DAY OF THE WOMAN, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE has gained a reputation over the years as an extremely graphic and violent film, as well as the most controversial film to hit the world! Now you decide for yourself: Is it really Just another exploitation film to be dismissed as some film critics assert, or is it, as other critics proclaim, Truly a masterpiece of cinema.』 『Writer-director Meir Zarchi's controversial story of rape and revenge has lost none of its ability to shock viewers since it first gained notoriety in the late '70s. Camille Keaton (grand-niece of Buster Keaton and, later, Zarchi's wife) stars as a young woman who is terrorized and then brutally assaulted by four men while on vacation. After slowly pulling herself together, she methodically tracks down and butchers each of the perpetrators. Zarchi's film has been consistently accused of celebrating violence against women, and while the rape scenes are graphic, they also lack the voyeuristic qualities that earmark other similarly plotted exploitation films. If anything, Zarchi is guilty of awkward scripting; the dialogue is leaden, and Keaton's transformation from victim to avenger is too swift. But to label him a pornographer is wrong, and while the film is challenging--perhaps more than most audiences can bear--its depiction of the psychology of violence is undeniably powerful.--Paul Gaita』

I first saw this film when I was 10 years old (38yrs today)and it still leaves me stunned. On Halloween night, in 1981 as a kid, I sat down in a typical Halloween costume and was glued to the tube, searching for a good scare. I always looked for films in the Hammer Studios type-produced horror films portraying Dracula as with Christopher Lee. But never had I seen a full length version devoted to the entire storey. Everything from the journey to and from England and Transylvania, was incredible to watch. Even the music scared me..lol.. Louis Jourdan played the best of all Dracula characters ever!!! Yes Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee are wonderful...but, Louis Jourdan really made my jaw drop! This film was shown on Channel 8 in Atlanta,GA with mostly programs dedicated to the BBC. When this film was finally placed on DVD....my heart skipped because finally a well made version had come back to life for me to own. Since purchasing this film upon its release to DVD, I have kept it as a rare jewel and even purchased more copies to hand out as gifts when friends-fans alike wanted a great version of Dracula. The whole film, coming from a horror fan here, was just beautiful and frightening all together.
Every Halloween Season, I get out this film as a tradition to get a good scare.lol

(THANK YOU!) 『Thank you for FINALLY making this available. I remember it with great pleasure when it first came out on PBS, and watched it for 3 years running on HALLOWEEN. I'll be the first to agree that the technology wasn't the greatest...but personally, I watch a movie for the acting...not digital effects. I literally grew up with horror films, and I can tell you that only TWO gave me nightmares. Bela Lugosi as Dracula, and Louis Jourdan as Dracula. They scared the stuffing out of me!
Please give this one a chance...Jourdan is masterful.』
(Rent This One From the Library) 『While some reviewers clearly enjoyed this film when they first saw it on TV (I can only assume they were quite young at the time), I found it unspeakably dull and disjointed. And (to echo another reviewer) I also deeply resent the BBC's practice of forcing home-viewers to sit through endless promotional commercials for other BBC series before watching the film they paid to see. One is not allowed to skip the commercials nor to fast-forward through them. This kind of intrusive, strong-arm tactic is not advertising. It's bullying. Commercials and promotions should be available as a Menu Selection.』
(About as Faithful a Version You Can Find) 『When I first saw this on PBS when I was a kid, I thought it was the best and scariest version up to that point. I just finished watching the 1931 Universal Pictures version, Hammer's Horror of Dracula, and this one over the last four days, and while I enjoyed each one, I've learned that comparing the adaptations is like comparing apples and oranges because none of the adaptations are very faithful. This one is about as faithful as they come.
The plot itself is faithful. The supporting characters are faithful. Dracula is not. Not that this is a bad thing. Everyone who plays Dracula brings his own style, and Louis Jourdan does a great job of portraying the vampire. Jourdan's Dracula is more human than other portrayals, but a monster nevertheless. He shows less anger, more seduction than rape, and at one point asks to be understood, but not pitied. He's not the Dracula of the novel, but that's okay, his performance is positive and memorable. Jack Shepard plays Renfield, and I think he captures the essence of Renfield of the book, as does Frank Findlay, in his portrayal of Dr. Van Helsing.
So, Dracula, although Jourdan does not capture the novel character's essence, does a great job in bringing his own interpretation to the character. Shepard and Findlay totally capture the essence of their characters. The only major character changes are that Lucy and Mina are now sisters, and Arthur Holmwood and Quincy Morris are combined into one character. These are not major changes that affect the storyline.
On a technical aspect, I can only fault it for some of the music. The opening score itself is great and moody, but there are several scenes which the music is light and airy to the point where I am reminded of the sitcom, "Bewitched." And this became really annoying as the movie moved forward.
So why only three stars? Certainly my tastes have changed since I was a kid, and the scare factor this movie originally had on me is no longer there - and there is nothing else to make up for that. As faithful as an adaptation this is compared to the other versions, as much as I like Jourdan's take on Dracula, as much as I think Finlay and Shepard do justice to their characters, the film as a whole lacks personality. And this is a problem caused by the history of Dracula on film. In the book, the main characters are pretty equal in their part in destroying Dracula. In the movies, it's pretty much van Helsing vs Dracula. This version follows the novel, and the mono en mono aspect is gone.
It's still an enjoyable version, and a must see if you've read the book. 』
(Great DVD for any Count Dracula fan) 『This movie is a little slow. It probably seems that way because it is longer than the average movie. It has none of the hollywood glitz we have become used to these days. But it is a must have for any vampire movie collector or anyone who loved the Dracula book.』 『This fan favorite three-part series from the BBC is now available on DVD for the first time! Louis Jourdan stars as the deliciously blood-thirsty Count Dracula in this version of Bram Stoker's horror classic. Keeping close to the original novel, the series begins with Jonathan Harker visiting the Count in Transylvania to help him with preparations to move to England. It is in the Count's castle that Jonathan becomes a prisoner, and discovers Dracula's true nature. Many scenes shot on location -- such as the Gothic graveyard of London's Highgate Cemetery -- add extra atmosphere to an already powerful production.』 『Devotees of vampire cinema have long esteemed this heretofore hard-to-see adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel, made for BBC-TV in 1977.Count Draculaputs Louis Jourdan in the fangs and cape, in a version subtitled--and played as--a Gothic romance. This is one of those 1970s TV productions that use film for exteriors and video for the interiors, a tactic that increases the general sense of cheapness about the whole thing (although the location stuff is good, including scenes on the cliffs of Whitby, the port town where Dracula comes to visit England). With 150 minutes to play with, the production has more of Stoker than many film versions include, although there's still some shuffling of the original. It's all a bit slow, and surprisingly cheesy at times, even with the occasional startling image: Dracula scooting bat-like down the side of his castle, or the vampire brides preparing to devour a baby (a scene cut from some subsequent showings of the series, but restored here). Frank Finlay makes a focused Van Helsing--a minimum of camping, thankfully--and Susan Penhaligon and Judi Bowker are respectively hot and cold as Lucy and Mina. Jourdan is effective, although he's off screen a lot and really gets his good bites in toward the end. You'll need some patience, but Jourdan drinks it dry.--Robert Horton』

I have gone through three DVD players trying to watch some of these movies. They are so bad that they literally destroyed the players. After returning the third player I was told that the store would no longer replace another player and I should quit trying to play the Mill Creek DVD's. (Finally, Darklight lights up my home...) 『After waiting for years, I am finally able to satisfy my craving for this film. I know it's not a great film, but it is one of those ones you see and don't forget. Everytime it was on I had to see it and every year I looked for it to come out for sale. While doing my annual check for films I've wanted but couldn't find, there it was. Finally, one off my list. However, I'm sure I'll be adding one back to replace it's spot in my revolving list of films I just wish someone would put out. I recommend this movie for everyone』
(Much Better Than Expected) 『When I first saw "House on Haunted Hill" I have to admit I thought it was really good. Maybe because I had just finished watching the snooze-fest that was "The Haunting" remake that my expectations were pretty low for another ghostie re-tread like "House on Haunted Hill", but I thought that this low-budget William Castle update was scarier and had more chills than the bigger budget big studio flick.
The story is cliched no doubt; a wealthy man (who makes his money by scaring people with amusement park rides) invites a bunch of people to a ginormous old mental hospital which has been abandoned since a mad doctor ran the place in the 1930's. Of course the former doctor was experimenting on patients many of which died horribly. Once everyone gets inside, things really begin to go bump in the night, and unfortunately for them (but lucky for us), the unlucky party goers find themselves trapped inside the monstrous madhouse with no way out.
There is a decent level of gore, and plenty of chills as the ghosts start popping guests off one-by-one. One of the best things about this film is the cast; Famke Janssen before her role in "X-Men" which made all of the nerds come out of the basement and go to the theater, Ali Larter before her role in "Heroes" which made all of the nerds return to the basement to watch TV, Geoffrey Rush slumming between his Oscar win for "Shine" and before becoming a pirate for Disney in "Pirates of the Caribbean" and horror icon Jeffrey Combs also pops in for some fun.
I think one of the reasons the film is so enjoyable is that it wallows in it's B-Movie origins. It's not trying to be a serious film, it achieves what it sets out to do, and that is offer a fun popcorn fueled horror film.』
(huh?) 『I ORDERED THE MOVIE AND THE BOX WAS EMPTY. . .

(Pretty good, Pretty good.) 『the movie was actually really good. its probibally one of the only few horrors that actualy scare me. but the story line plot and evrything was all good. eaven when mr price went in to the saturation chamber. that was personally my favorite scene. but other than that it was a good movie.』
(Great Creepy Ghost Haunted house movie) 『I may have never seen the original with Vincent Price, but the first time I saw this remake in theaters I was in love. The opening credits and most of the scenes with the ghosts seem as though they were shot by the same directors who did some of NIN's and Marilyn Manson's videos...and who is scarier than those guys.
Overall a great suspenseful, creepy, and mildy gory ghosts out for revenge story a true keeper in my DVD collection.
Great perfomances by Chris Kattan and Geoffrey Rush.』 『When an eccentric millionaire offer a group of opposites $1,000,000 to spend the night in a so called "Haunted House" with a murderous past, they figure it is a quick way to get quick money and leave. All of them are sure it is some made up story just to mess with their heads a little and test their courage. But, once they stay in the house they start to think about the mistake they made in coming there when mysterious things start to happen.』 『House on Haunted Hillis one of the new breed of waste-no-time thrill machines, likeDeep Blue Sea, and a particularly effective example at that. The plot is pure contrivance: For a party stunt, a wealthy amusement-park manufacturer (Geoffrey Rush) offers five people a million dollars if they spend the night in a former insane asylum where the patients murdered the sadistic staff. But it turns out the five people who arrive aren't the five he invited--did his wife (Famke Janssen), who hates him, make the switch? From there events unfold with a smart combination of human and supernatural machinations; spooky jolts are dispensed at regular, but not entirely predictable, intervals. The visual effects owe a considerable debt toJacob's Ladder, a much more ambitious movie;House on Haunted Hilljust wants to get under your skin, and succeeds more than you'd expect. Rush is his entertainingly hammy self; Janssen, Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, and Bridgette Wilson are attractive and reasonably straight-faced about it all; and Chris Kattan is genuinely funny as the house's neurotic owner. Some elements of the plot seem to have been lost in the editing process, but it hardly matters. More bothersome is that the scares go flat when computer effects take over at the end--the digital images just aren't as creepy as the more suggestive stuff that came before. But that's just the very end; most of the movie has a lot of momentum. Watch until the end of the credits for a final bit of eeriness.--Bret Fetzer』

The reviews are spot-on, however, I noticed that with all the acolades heaped upon the actors, it must also be remembered that Paul Mantz, one of Hollywood's finest stunt pilots lost his life in the filming of this movie (Phoennix prototype crashed during last scene), as he was trying to land, in scene which showed plane disappearing over the mountains. At the end of the film's credits, a memorial mentions this unfortunate tragedy.』
(Very good -- not the best for repeat viewing.) 『Flight of the Phoenix is a great movie. It tells the story of a plane crash in the middle of the no-where. With only a limited amount of water -- but luckily a large shipment of dates was onboard -- the crew must decide what to do. Stay and wait? Walk toward civlization?
The characters are interesting and the conflict faced by the hero of the film is difficult.
My only complaint is that this film does not have great repeat value. In my opinion it is simply too slow.
Bottom line: Borrow or rent this movie. Buy only if you are really taken by the courageous struggle of the hero!』
(3 stars out of 4) 『The Bottom Line:
An engaging adventure that is better in almost every way than its more modern remake, The Flight of the Phoenix makes the most out of its interesting premise and desert setting; with a cast of top-flight character actors behind the somewhat-annoying Jimmy Stewart, it's a worthy film.』
(The definition of a classic) 『This may not have won any awards, but it is a great story superbly acted by a stellar cast. Infinitely better than the recent trashy remake. The interplay between the characters is finely done and keeps you hooked from start to finish. Best film of 1965 without a doubt and definitely an important addition to anyone's history of cinema collection.』
(computer nerd vs. grizzled old veteran) 『"Flight of the Phoenix" is truly a superior film and is one of my all time favorites. An airplane carrying a cargo of men, mostly oil field types, crashes into the North African desert because of a sudden sand storm that the pilot, Jimmy Stewart, is unable to climb over. Several men are killed in the initial crash and Stewart is a writhing mass of guilt.
The ordeal, however, is by no means over. The crash site is hundreds of miles away from the nearest help and, worse, because the plane tried to detour around the storm, they aren't in any known flight path. The survivors have a cargo of dates and a limited amount of water to live on. Seemingly, there are only two choices...walk out or die.
The dispassionate and calculating Hardy Kruger, who plays a German slide rule nerd [make that a present day computer nerd] has been quietly examining the wreck of the twin engine plane and announces to the incredulous Stewart that he has a plan to fly the enormously damaged plane to safety. Stewart thinks the German has gone off his head but when he learns Kruger is an aircraft designer he reluctantly starts to listen.
Kruger thinks they can disengage the one wing, winch it over the fuselage and attach it to the one good engine, producing a one engined plane without a fuselage. The men will have to ride on the top of the wings. Now Stewart thinks Kruger is really crazy but is convinced to go along with it if, for no other reason, than to give the men hope.
The rest of the story is one of building and unbearable tension. Stewart despises the fact that he is playing second fiddle to a juvenile German who is likely out of his head. Water is stolen, which Hardy admits to because he, unlike the others...all so cold and logical...has been working day and night and requires the extra moisture. Kruger is absolutely right but Stewart hates him for it.
Men are lost to the desert and two others are tortured to death by marauding Arab bandits. Almost worse, Stewart learns that Kruger is, in fact, a model airplane designer, who announces that his greatest design is the "Adler", with a two meter wingspan. Now Stewart really thinks that the German is crazy. Nevertheless, they labor on and ultimately Stewart, who is after all an excellent pilot, flies the German's contrapation to safety.
This is a simply brilliant psychological thriller pitting two opposite views of life against each other. Despite their mutual animosities, the "Old Salt", Stewart, can't survive without the computer nerd and the computer nerd, Kruger, can't survive without the "Old Salt". They have to work together for the survival of everyone. By the way, the Phoenix theme is haunting.
Ron Braithwaite author of novels--"Skull Rack" and "Hummingbird God"--on the Spanish Conquest of Mexico.』 『James Stewart stars as the captain of a plane that has crashed in the desert and must be fixed on the double before all crew members die.』 『Robert Aldrich's tense, 1965 drama about a plane crash in the Sahara is a unique psychological study of men in desperate circumstances. In this somewhat revisionist view of classic heroism, every character within the mixed lot is stretched to his limit, and individual efforts to brave the elements and hostile nomads are duly punished. What is left is collective will and ingenuity. One could call this an allegory for transcending Cold War madness, perhaps, but Aldrich (Kiss Me Deadly) makes this such a gritty, immediate experience that you can feel the desert sand in your teeth. Superb performances by James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Hardy Krüger, Peter Finch, and the rest.--Tom Keogh』
