(Freud was right.)
『Unconsciously, I purchased this movie twice, and instead of returning one of them, I brought two tv's into the same room and watched Usher and Pit side by side, simultaneously, and discovered during viewing that, not only am I a masochist, but I must kill the family cat and make a nice had out of its fur. Poor Mr. Jinx.』

(The Razor Edge of Destiny!)
『Edgar Allen Poe would have been amazed at Richard Matheson's version of Edgar's original story about a 16th century nobleman, who meets despair, grief and insanity upon the death of his wife, or so we suppose.

One of Roger Corman's better horror films, after the success of The House of Usher. Vincent Price starts the story in deep grief, some critics say "whimpiness" (not really) as he relates to the brother of Elizabeth (his wife) the goings on since her death.

At first he makes up some story about her blood being bad, but then recants and spins a tale or two about her, some thinking that the castle may be haunted.

Eventually we find that Elizabeth is alive after all, faked her death and drives Nicholas crazy a day early since she has the hots for Nicholas' best friend, the doctor.

And darn wouldn't you know it, the same thing happened to his father. Except his father was a torturer for the Grand Inquisition.

Vincent Price is horrifically deviously delicious as a torturer who makes good use of the Iron Maiden and the Pendulum with such gleeful abandon, it's fun to watch. I have read where the Pendulum originally was hard rubber, but they decided to go for painted STEEL. That was some brave actor under the blade.

Corman's use of tinted frames, ocean storms, and distorted camera views makes for a fairly horrific tale. The "one-star wonders" on Amazon have not a clue what true horror is, when you put Corman, Price and Matheson in the same box.

Add this ghastly film to your repertoire of horror soon!』

(A classic!)
『I really love Vincent Price movies to put me in the mood for Halloween :) It is a great movie for anytime but I like to relax and watch the classics, so for my personal collection it is a must have. I have to say I really love both features but i must say the pit and the pendalum is the scarier one. Again it is a definitely good deal for top notch entertainment. A real family value.』

(The Fall Of The House of Usher/Pitt and the Pendulum)
『I loved it Saturday night on TV as a child but now it seems dull. The only bright spot is Price's acting. Read Poe's story instead.』

I WANT MY MONEY BACK FOR THIS WACK RENDITION OF THE POE CLASSICS.

『THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER: Audio Commentary by Director Roger Corman Original Theatrical Trailer THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM: Rare Prologue』
The Fall of the House of Usher's success in 1960 spurred American International Pictures to quickly launch another production based on an Edgar Allan Poe story. While producer-director Roger Corman had hoped to next adapt "The Masque of the Red Death" (which wasn't produced until 1964),Pit and the Pendulum(the onscreen title) became the second in AIP's long-running Poe series. Set in post-Inquisition Spain, the film stars John Kerr as a young Englishman who travels to the seaside castle of his brother-in-law (Vincent Price) to uncover the circumstances behind the death of his sister (a dubbed Barbara Steele). Price is tormented by memories of his mother's premature burial by his inquisitor father (also Price) and fears that this sadistic legacy has contributed to Steele's demise. Furthermore, he believes that Steele was also buried alive--a belief compounded by the mysterious destruction of her room, and the sound of her harpsichord playing in the night...

Structured almost identically toUsher, Richard Matheson's script fleshes out the brief original text with a fast-paced and twist-filled plot that never loses sight of the psychological themes of Poe's work. It also provides Price with the richest of his many AIP/Poe roles, a sympathetic, deeply emotional man who is unhinged by the sins of his father. Corman's direction is equally driven and fluid, and features some impressive quasi-psychedelic visuals in the tense climax. Also noteworthy is art director's Daniel Haller's impressive design of the title set piece. MGM's widescreen DVD features commentary by Corman, which focuses primarily on the film's technical aspects. Also included is the original trailer and a prologue (shot byNorma Raeproducer Tamara Asseyev) featuring costar Luana Anders, which was added to fill out the film's 1968 television broadcast.--Paul Gaita

(The Horror&Tragedy Of It All)
『I had such hopes for this collection only to find them painfully dashed. The Horror Classics 50 Movie Pack Collection films and sound quality often suffers to varying degrees from film to film. Sometimes that is true within the same film. Collection contains both well known and much lesser known films that only die-hard horror fans would recognize. Some inclusions I felt were misplaced and should have been in a sci-fi collection instead. I have yet to find captioning nor subtitles for any selections. If this is important to you and your family as it is in mine you might want to reconsider this purchase based on that alone. If I had known before hand I would not have bought this. I think it is a sad shame in today's times anyone is omitted from enjoying such a simple pleasure due to a disability and will not invest in companies that show a lack of compassion for such people. Nevertheless the kit contains: # Dr. Jekyll&Mr. Hyde starring John Barrymore, Blue Beard starring John Carradine, The Corpse Vanishes starring Bela Lugosi, Night of the Living Dead starring Judith O'Dea, Doomed to Die starring Boris Karloff, The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney, Sr., The Indestructible Man starring Lon Chaney, Jr., The Hunchback of Notre Dame Lon Chaney, Sr., Nosferatu starring Max Schreck, Swamp Women starring Mike Connors, The World Gone Mad starring Pat O'Brien, The Little Shop of Horrors starring Jack Nicholson, Tormented starring Richard Carlson, The Monster Walks starring Rex Lease, Monster from a Prehistoric Planet starring Tamio Kawaji, The Gorilla starring The Ritz Brothers, A Shriek in the Night starring Ginger Rogers, Bloodlust starring Robert Reed, The Amazing Mr. X starring Turhan Bay, Last Woman on Earth starring Robert Towne, The Bat starring Vincent Price, The House on Haunted Hill starring Vincent Price, The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price, Dementia 13 starring William Campbell, Phantom from 10,000 Leagues starring Kent Taylor, Carnival of Souls starring Candace Hilligoss, Atom Age Vampire starring Alberto Lupo, Creature from the Haunted Sea starring Robert Towne, Nightmare Castle starring Barbara Steele, Black Dragons starring Bela Lugosi, Invisible Ghost starring Bela Lugosi, One Body Too Many starring Bela Lugosi, White Zombie starring Bela Lugosi, Attack of the Giant Leeches starring Ken Clark, The Screaming Skull starring John Hudson, Beast of Yucca Flats starring Tor Johnson, The Terror starring Boris Karloff, Revolt of the Zombies starring Dean Jagger, The Giant Gilla Monster starring Don Sullivan, The Fatal Hour starring Boris Karloff, Dead Men Walk starring George Zucco, The Mad Monster starring George Zucco, Maniac starring Bill Woods, Metropolis starring Gustav Frolich, and more.』

(Worth It, But Know What You Are Getting Into)
『I bought this set for $14.99 at Best Buy. At 29 cents per movie, I figure I can afford to be disappointed by some of them. I'm very much into both horror movies and old B movies, so the fact that not all of these films are technically "horror" really didn't bother me.
These are all public domain movies- that means anyone can reproduce and sell them without worrying about copyright or paying any sort of royalties. That's how they are able to market this package so cheaply. And the title is misleading- by no means are most of these movies "classics". In fact, with a few exceptions ("Night of the Living Dead","Nosferatu" and a couple of others) they're largely fairly obscure. But that doesn't mean they're not entertaining.

As noted, the prints and audio vary wildly, from fairly decent all the way to barely watchable (some look suspiciously like VHS transfers). But if you're a stickler for picture quality, chances are you're not into watching stuff like this anyway.

So far I've really enjoyed this set; it goes great with popcorn, pizza, and beer on a Saturday night. It'd certainly rather take my chances on these films than pay $14.99 for a DVD of a single movie only to find out that it sucks, which is the case with about 75% of the stuff coming out these days.

(FRIDAY THE 13 KILLER CUT)
『THE MOVIE WAS GOOD THE GUY FROM SUPER NATURAL PLAYED IN IT I LIKED THE MOVIE』

(Another Remake That Falls Flat)
『The first few original "Friday The 13th" films (before they started milking the cash cow with endless crappy sequels) were some of the scariest fare to ever come out of the horror genre. Building off the success of the original slasher film, "Halloween", this franchise created a character (in Jason Voorhees) that actually has an interesting backstory, making him even more terrifying. Those first five or so installments had everything a great horror movie needs: a decent plotline, a little skin, and some "jump out of your seat" moments. Plus, and this is not to be underestimated, they had that "early 80s movie" feel to them, as the camera work was very simple and the film quality wasn't pristine, only adding to the scare factor.

Sadly, though, this remake (directed by Marcus Nispel) fails to hit any of the hallmarks that the originals made famous. Perhaps the failure of Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remakes should have been a clue, but I guess viewers (once again) had to learn the hard way that some films just don't need to be remade. Basically, there are two ways to undertake these sorts of projects: Either a "re-make", which this tries to be, or a "re-boot" (like the latest Star Trek), which this film probably should have been but couldn't because of the iconic Jason character.

Besides matching the originals in the nudity department (and whether that is a positive feature is debatable!), this new version fails in every other regard. The story is completely ripped off from the original few flicks, there really are no great "jump moments" that can hold a candle to those done in the past, and the cinematography is actually too "clean and tidy"...there's no grittiness to it at all. Not helping matters is the fact that besides Jared Padalecki and Danielle Panabaker, who turn in fine acting performances, the rest of the cast is uninspiring in all their respective roles...nothing more than fodder to be eventually slashed by Jason.

Perhaps the biggest downfall of the entire film experience, though, is the fact that the Jason character is such an icon in the horror genre that there really is no way to either make him better or even match the original. Once again, it's kind of like the Halloween remake...people don't dress up to trick or treat like Zombie's Michael Myers. Instead, they are wearing the old William Shatner mold from the originals. The same concept can be applied to Jason...he terrified us with the tied bag over the head (and then the hockey mask) at first, so why would the exact same thing two decades later be any better?

Thus, about the only good thing I see coming from this film is the possibility that it may "inspire" a new audience to discover the great originals. However, it will more than likely drive potential fans away due to all its shortcomings.』

(Shameless cash-in, but did you really expect anything else?)
『I wanted to like this movie, I really did. Unfortunately it seems the makers were hellbent on making sure I came out of the theater disappointed. I'm a fan of the original trilogy and slashers in general but come on, this film is just crap. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is because it wasn't genuinely painful to watch. The acting is unanimously terrible. The directing and cinematography are both pretty bad, about on the level of your average crappy teen movie. The already mediocre storyline of the series gets crapped on leaving nothing of interest. Worst of all, they don't even manage to infuse the campy feeling that made even the lesser films in the series fun. DOn't give these people your money or your approval, they deserve neither.』

(Friday the 13 (2009)... Mother did it need to be so high?)
『Friday the 13 (2009): 8 out of 10: Jason is a bit off in this one. He moves to fast, he kidnaps people like he watched Rest Stop one too many times and he seems to lack a certain hulking presence of the original. Outside of the main character however, this is a pretty good Friday the 13th film.

Friday the 13th is billed as a relaunch (remake reboot ect) and as such it seems to confuse. It contains plot elements of the first four films (Mrs. Voorhees decapitation takes place in flashback) and Jason rightfully starts with his original sack and finds his hockey mask (as he did in part 3). In addition, while I am critical of Jason having his own lair I am reminded he had one in Part 2 (Where he kept his mothers severed head lovingly surrounded by candles). The main plot of a man trying to find his missing sister is straight from part 4.
Where the film succeeds is canon fodder and nudity. There are plenty of both and most of it is of high quality. The kills range from mundane (of these there are plenty) surprisingly intense (A burning sleeping bag may cause nightmares and the topless wakeboarding will cause nothing but smiles.) The sheer number and variety of kills however is quite impressive.

Camp Crystal Lake has apparently turned into a breast implant recovery retreat. While there is only one camp counselor to be found (in grainy flashback no less) there are plenty of woman with breast implants and an aversion to wearing shirts. Julianna Guill (who in fairness may be au-natural) in particular gets points for simply being one of the most attractive women I have seen on-screen in many a movie. (Willa Ford of the topless wakeboarding scene is not half bad either.)

Considering the number of times the Friday the 13th films have gone of the rails in the past, one should not raise the bar all that high. In addition, while I am an unabashed fanboy of the series, I do recognize it does have serious limitations. (What we now refer to as its charms.) This is a flashier, more competently lensed Friday the 13th, and all in all is that such a bad thing?

There are plenty of bad jokes, drugs, nudity and violence. If that is not what you were looking for you may want to check the title screen again. As Friday the 13th movies go this is one of the best.』

(Guilty pleasure alert)
『The Bottom Line:

This remake/reboot of Friday the 13th isn't very good at all but I've seen every Friday film and if I can safely report that not one of them (except maybe the original IF I'm in a good mood) is legitimately praise-worthy film so that's hardly the issue--the only thing worth reporting is that this Friday delivers the gratuitous nudity (topless water skiing?) inventive deaths, and one-note characters central to the franchise about as well as could possibly be done with a (mostly) straight face.

2/4』

『FRIDAY THE 13TH: KILLER CUT EXTENDED 2009 (DVD MOVIE)』
『If you thought a bigger budget and an A-list producer (Michael Bay) would go to Jason's head, well, forget it. The indestructible villain of so many bottom-of-the-barrel shockers isn't about to change his shtick, and the 2009Friday the 13thproves it. This, the umpteenth sequel (nope, it's not a remake of the origin story) to the original 1980 movie, gives us a clever prologue that manages to fit an entire Jason Voorhees killing spree in a brisk and bloody 20 minutes. Jumping ahead six weeks, the film introduces a carload of clueless teens headed for a weekend at a lakeside cabin, plus a lone motorcyclist (Jared Padalecki) in search of his missing sister (Amanda Righetti). When the "lakeside" happens to refer to Crystal Lake, of course, there can be only one outcome. Cue the hockey mask, and pass the machete. Bay and director Marcus Nispel, who collaborated on theTexas Chainsaw Massacreremake, are surprisingly indifferent to changing up the formula this time, although there's more care taken in building up a few characters, and for once the comic relief (mostly supplied by Aaron Yoo and Arlen Escarpeta) is pretty funny. You might even regret the slaughter of a couple of these young folk, which is an unusual feeling inFriday-watching. The film's Jason is quite the athletic fellow, and he's assembled an elaborate underground corpse-hiding lair in the vicinity of Crystal Lake. How he's been able to live down there for 30 years (if the film's own timeline is to be believed) and had enough unwitting campers pass by to keep himself entertained is anybody's guess. But if they keep coming, he'll keep slashing.--Robert Horton

Also on the disc
The extended Killer Cut is 106 minutes compared to 97 for the theatrical cut, and it's hard to imagine choosing to watch the theatrical cut if you have a choice. In addition to some more of Amanda Righetti and of Jason, the extra nine minutes is mostly more gore in the gory scenes and more sex in the sexy scenes. If you're squeamish you might not want those things, but if you're that squeamish you probably don't want to watchFriday the 13thin the first place, right? The longer cut will give you more of the stuff that you probably watch this movie for. There's also an 11-minute featurette on the new movie and three deleted scenes (a different version of Jason getting his mask, the police response to the phone call, and a revised climax).--David Horiuchi

(GREAT Haunted House Movie!)
『This movie is guaranteed to give you the chills! It stayed with me long after I viewed it. The scene with the ball scares me every time I watch this movie. HIGHLY recommended!』

(Another one of those movies Hollywood forgot how to make)
『This is one of my favorite horror films of all time. About the only ones I can think of that I like as well are the original "Halloween," and "The Shining." Those two movies are very different films from each other, and from this film, but all three are characterized by one common theme: what really scares you is what you DON'T see. Somehow, Hollywood forgot this a long, long time ago. Your imagination, given a little room to work, can conjure nightmares more vivid and more frightening than anything the best art department and visual effects specialists can ever put on celluloid. If done well, things only need to be hinted at, and then you will fill in the details out of the scrapbook of horrors that you carry around in your head, and you mind will tailor it to your own deepest fears.

Don't get me wrong, visual effects are a true marvel of modern film making, enabling makers of films to achieve effects that their forebears only dreamed of. Done well and judiciously, this can tremendously enhance a film. The problem is, these days, almost no one uses this tool judiciously. It's invariably overdone. I can't think of a recent ghost story told on the screen where we don't get treated to full, detailed views of the ghost sooner or later. These days, they always strive to outdo the last film with yet more spectacular stunts, more spectacular effects. Sometimes it works, but it rarely rises to the level of some of the old films, where the technology was more limited, and this forced them to rely more on the unseen, on suspense, drama, and the talents of the actors and the director.

"The Changeling" is a movie in the old style. The Ghost is never seen (except, once his identity becomes known, in a flashback to the scene of his murder), but his ominous presence pervades the film almost from the beginning. Imagine yourself in the place of John Russell, the main character played to perfection by the late, great Geo. C. Scott. All alone in this huge, old, dark house, and you begin hearing inexplicable noises. Before long, you realize there is another presence in there with you. Do this while watching the film alone, at night, in your own dark house.

One of the scariest scenes I've ever seen in a movie is the scene where Russell hears the rubber ball his deceased daughter once played with bouncing down the stairs. It comes to rest just outside the door of the room where he was looking at photos of his lost family. Knowing the ghost has done this, he drives out to a bridge, and throws the ball in the water, and then arrives back home to find the ball bouncing down the stairs straight toward him as soon as he walks back in the door. You never see anything except a rubber ball, but it almost makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. There are other scenes as well done as this too, and like this scene, all depend on the viewer's imagination, but that's why it works.

This is what a ghost story ought to be.』

(A creepy crawl...)
『While this movie is hardly jaw dropping horrifying it has a nice atmospheric chill to it. Probably the most memorable scene in the movie for me was the scene on the stairs with the ball. I remember seeing a parody of that scene in the movie 'scary movie 2' before I had even seen this movie. Even as a joke it's kinda creepy. George C. Scott's acting is quite good. It is good viewing for a chill night in October or anytime you want a good old fashioned ghost story.』

(ONE OF THE BEST EVER MADE!!)
『To this day, I will never understand why this movie isn't more well known. As far as I'm concerned, this is THE best haunted house movie ever made. I saw it on cable waaaaay back in the early 80's as a young teenager, and instantly it became one of my favorite films. Here I am, almost 30 years later, writing this review, and the memory of that first viewing is as clear as if it were yesterday, and I admit, the goose bumps are starting already. A truly creepy, quite scary, and intensly atmospheric film that sucks you right in and builds steadily throughout. This is a perfect example of what a great script, director, and cast can do. There is no need for gallons of blood or shock value. Good old fashioned suspense, and what you DON'T see. You will not be disappointed with this movie. I agree with one reviewer in that the shot of the wheelchair at the top of the stairs still gets me. And the ball bouncing down the stairs. I still hear it when I close my eyes. God, they don't make em like this anymore!!!』

(One of the best haunted-house movies)
『What I love about this movie is the fact that it doesn't throw a lot of special effects in your face, the story does not get stupid or hokey, and the director does not try to do more than he is capable of. This is a very modest, smartly written ghost story that delivers more genuine chills than many a big-budget schlockfest.

The thing that impressed me the most when I first watched this movie almost 10 years ago was how AUTHENTIC it is. I've read a lot of "true" accounts of hauntings, and they are never as dramatic as shown in the movies. The haunting in this movie is very understated; it's mostly just eerie noises and doors slamming. No horrible apparitions, no blood oozing down the walls, no illogical mess-with-the-audience's-mind funhouse tricks. The creepiness builds slowly, realistically, and as a result it is much more scary.

I watched it again today, and there are a few things I noticed. Firstly, George C Scott's acting could best be described as "subdued." Situations that probably would have made me jump and yell and run away, he confronts with a dull blank stare. He seems unnerved at times (and once he gets angry at the ghost) but never really afraid. It's interesting that I did not notice this the first time I watched.

The soundtrack is quite overbearing for a movie in which sound plays such an important role. Several times when George C Scott is alone in the house and he's reacting to something, I could not tell if he was supposed to be hearing the sounds I was hearing, or if they were "Spooky Noises" added to the soundtrack in order to enhance the mood. The inappropriate sound design did not catch my attention the first time I watched, but it seemed very obvious the second time.

I thought the first time I saw it that the ending was too big, and I think so even more now. Somebody wanted this movie to have a huge Hollywood climax so they spent their budget to burn down the set, and I think it ruins the mood. The image of the chandelier swinging as Scott climbs the stairs is unforgettable, but my overall impression of the ending is that it drops a big lump of Hollywood cheese on a movie which otherwise would have completely avoided being cheesy. It is mainly because of the last 10 minutes that I award four stars instead of five. This is a good movie - perhaps even great - but not perfect.』

(not a great tarantino film)
『I always watch tarantino's movies because when he's good he's great (pulp fiction, reservoir dogs) unfortunately this is just not one of his great movies. I was okay but not what I anticapated.』

(One Helluva Joy Ride!)
『I had no idea that this was ever released as a double-feature with Planet of Terror. Of the two, I thought this one was better. I loved the concept, (70's exploitation car movie), loved the plotline twists and loved the action. The only place that I felt that the film fell short, and the reason that I gave it 4 Stars, was in the dialouge. It was too obvious at times, that the dialoug spoken by the girls was written by a guy.

Watch and enjoy!』

(Regret not watching this how it was meant to, QT does it again!!)
『I recently watched this film and it has left me with such regret I didn't follow my gut and go see it at the movies. Since "Kill Bill" I fell in love with QT and his style of film making, and that alone would have convinced me to sit for 3 hours to watch this. I had no idea what exploitation films were or are and that's what I love about QT. He uses elements in his films that show people like me who are not movie buffs other styles of filmmaking and movies. Therefore, You admire a new branch of films and filmmaking you didn't know was out there. Everything was in this movie great dialogue, music, suspense, actors and there is very little I didn't enjoy. I knew all the long conversation would lead up to something I wasn't expecting and boy was I right. The car chase in the second half was also exciting and it has a very different turn out from the first half (it seems Mike is more a pussy cat than a lion as he portrayed previously) I learned a lesson from this to always follow my instinct regarding what films I choose to watch. The media is so obsessed with Jennifer Aniston, JLo, Britney crap that, that is all they talk about. There was no buzz over this film and thus my interest went from 10 to 0. I'm sure Britney was drunk driving again when this came out so the focus was on her, or maybe Jennifer Aniston was getting dumped again for the 100th time. All I have to say is watch this with an open mind because it is a very interesting and entertaining film. The fact that I'm still thinking about the film 2 days later and looking info about it online says a lot.

PS Regarding the fake trailer you can Youtube them, I did and like everyone said over the top campy and funny.
PPS Planet Terror is next and I can't wait.』

(Just Enjoy the Ride)
『As I'm sure you already know, Death Proof originally served as the second half of Grindhouse and this DVD edition is an extended cut of that version. Written, directed, and photographed by Quentin Tarantino, Death Proof is a loving homage to 1970s exploitation/grindhouse cinema, not just in story but in style as well. As the film begins, we're treated to an intentionally scratched and poorly edited print...It all adds to the fun of the experience.

Initially, we meet three young women (Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Vanessa Ferlito, and Jordan Ladd) whom we'll follow for about the first 50 minutes of the movie. This serves as the set-up, also introducing Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), the diabolical antagonist.

Grindhouse fans may be pleased to know that the "Missing Reel" has been restored and we see Arlene (Ferlito, who looks like a low-rent Angelina Jolie) giving Stuntman Mike his lapdance.

Death Proof does hit a roadblock relatively early on. Tarantino generally has a deep affection for his characters, as if his characters are his friends. However, this initial group of girls doesn't seem to have that affection. They seem less like friends than annoying acquaintances one only mildly enjoys hanging out with. That's probably why they're gone less than an hour into the movie.

14 months after meeting the initial girls, we meet four different girls; it's at this point that the scratches and other grindhouse elements disappear, along with the original tone established for the movie. The four new girls also seem to have Tarantino's affection. The characters are fun to watch and real-life stuntwoman Zoe Bell (playing herself) has a charming screen presence.

Beyond all the grindhouse elements, Tarantino also takes some time to reference his own films and Italian giallo films. It would be easy to argue that Death Proof seems more like a loosely strung-together homage than a fully-realized story...But rather than focus on that, it's a lot more fun if you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Furthermore, Stuntman Mike is a memorable antagonist and Kurt Russell is delightfully charming and sinister. It's nice to see him taking a break from his recent family-friendly fare.

A lot of people have found Death Proof disappointing and, they're right, this is not a masterpiece. It wasn't meant to be though and this should not be overlooked. Finally, some have seen the ending as an anticlimax...But how else could this film have ended? An epilogue would not have been necessary. What one has to look at here is that Tarantino's loving homage does rise above it's influences. It is pretty good and it made me nostalgic for 1970s grindhouse movies, despite the fact that I wasn't alive in the 1970s. With it's faults, Death Proof is a good, exciting, and entertaining movie, inspired by movies that were never considered particularly good...That's an achievement in itself.

GRADE: B』

(A Fine Return To Form)
『Though sometimes spotty in parts, Death Proof is a great return to form for what makes his movies such a thrill to love in the first place. After the silly Kill Bill (overrated) and the underrated and slow-paced Jackie Brown (underrated), Death Proof's got much of the stuff I kind of missed from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Certainly, it's got quite possibly the most interesting plot on paper, nothing deep or insightful, but this is a geek-experience, established greatly by the homages, conversations about Vanishing Point, and British Pop Bands, and the whole look of the movie. And besides, it's a _________ Tarantino movie! I don't think you'd expect a Tarantino movie to be very boring, eh? Exacly.

Death Proof, released as Grindhouse with Planet Terror (which I have not seen), deals with a pretty absurd form of a serial killer misogynist, who murders women with a stunt car (a sick stunt car, by the way). It's a pretty stupid idea on paper, something that is pretty worthy of being a 70's grindhouse movie, and nothing else (as well as Planet Terror). But with Quentin Tarantino at the helm, it turns into a well-scripted, blast of fun, while still feeling like a drive-in Grindhouse flick. It nails the feel of the movie, the ladies are pretty hot (My favorites were Shanna and Kim), the soundtrack is another winner, exhilarating action, and it's got the inevitable way of sucking you into the world of Austin, Texas. This is a Tarantino movie, and nothing else.

In my opinion, Tarantino hasn't done directing quite like this, as I think's it's hist best so far. Sure, Tarantino is not extremely innovative or anything of that nature, but Death Proof has atmosphere, style, and cool shots everywhere galore. From adding the "our feature presentation" opener (complete with the Funky Fanfare music) to the deliberate worn-out look of this movie, it's more stylized than anything else Tarantino has ever done. Tarantino's use of close-upts gets us shots of car parts, jukeboxes, and feet. And the dialogue is expertely handled, as well as the action. I think that no one can really do Tarantino's dialogue the way he can. Tony Scott kind of ruined True Romance, and From Dusk Till' Dawn isn't lookin very good either, even though Robert Rodgriguez did a slighty better job adapting a Tarantino sceenplay.

Death Proof really is not as bad as everybody says. So see it now.

B』

『A deranged stuntman stalks his victims from the safety of his killer car, but when he picks on the wrong group of badass babes, all bets are off in an adrenaline-pumping, high speed, white-knuckle automotive duel of epic proportions, where anything can happen.』
『Loud, fast, and proudly out of control,Grindhouseis a tribute to the low-budget exploitation movies that lurked at drive-ins and inner city theaters in the '60s and early '70s. Writers/directors Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) cooked up this three-hour double feature as a way to pay homage to these films, and the end result manages to evoke the down-and-dirty vibe of the original films for an audience that may be too young to remember them. Tarantino'sDeath Proofis the mellower of the two, relatively speaking; it's wordier (as to be expected) and rife with pulp/comic book posturing and eminently quotable dialogue. It also features a terrific lead performance by Kurt Russell as a homicidal stunt man whose weapon of choice is a souped-up car. Tarantino's affection for his own dialogue slows down the action at times, but he does provide showy roles for a host of likable actresses, including Rosario Dawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rose McGowan, Sydney Poitier, and newcomer Zoe Bell, who was Uma Thurman's stunt double inKill Bill. Detractors may decry the rampant violence and latch onto a sexist undertone in Tarantino's feature, but for those viewers who grew up watching these types of films in either theaters or on VHS, such elements will be probably be more of a virtue than a detrimental factor. --Paul Gaita

(Oh my god it's "The Blair Crap Project")
『Let's start out if you can't see that this film is a badly improvised horror film then you must not have viewed the great films of the horror genre. Let's start out with the fact that is not a real documentary these are just actors (badly at that) because I remembering that there were those that thought for sure that this was all for real and that the filmmaker's just claimed that this was fiction. When you see 555-idiot on the missing posters in the picture that mean's that it's the number used in movies only. I remembered reading that in the first take were we see the little stick figures that the actor's in the film walked all over them and that the director's had to go back and pick up all there twigs and that them they should have been terrified of them. So, when you hear me outside your house tonight banging on your door I'm really the Blair Witch coming to get you. BOOOOOO.』

(plays to my worst fears)
『9.7 THE FILM ITSELF
8.0 VISUALS
9.5 SOUND
8.3 PACKAGING
8.5 EXTRAS

I have always loved The Blair Witch Project. From the first time I saw it in theatres when I was too young to understand what exactly was going on to the dozens of times I've seen it since, it always scares me. It always gets under my skin and makes me want to crawl into a paranoid little ball. The story follows three college kids filming a documentary about the legend of the Blair Witch. It looks real. It was marketed as real. And it feels exceptionally real. And it makes it that much more frightening.

But even when you know it isn't real, it's still a great horror movie with no slasher type villains or indestructible evil monsters. This movie builds on paranoia and angst and it works like a charm. I personally hate being in a large area of darkness (this film has it), I hate hearing random disturbing noises in said black area (this film has it), and I hate when people start screaming their faces off into the darkness (this film has it). So maybe I love this film because it plays to my fears and it's one of only a handful to truly frighten me, but isn't that what a film is supposed to do?

The special features are great. The commentary alone with the creators is fantastic. The four of them seem to e best friends and talk alot about the making of each scene and how everything was placed together. I was skeptical about how a commentary for this movie would go, but I was exrememly surprised with how much insight they gave to the film. One of the best commentaries I've listened to yet (as far as information is given).
The other good special feature is the "Curse of the Blair Witch" which covers the history of the story. It may sound simple, but there are alot of backstories to the growing legend. It looks great and sounds like something you'd see on Unsolved Mysteries.
The rest of the special features aren't anything great - or lengthy - but it definitely doesn't ruin the feel of the film. "Newly Discovered Footage" was the only letdown because it was one scene that is actually in the film, just in a different way.

I know alot of people hate this film, because it wasn't scary or because it made them "sick" (how? I don't see it), but for horror fans looking for something new and not something cheesy, I would strongly recommend The Blair Witch Project, especially if you have the same fears as I do.

9.8/10 "INCREDIBLE"』

(What are you guys talking about!?)
『This movie scared the hell out of me, I can only say that about the ring, the grudge, the blair witch project and of coarse the exorcist. Cheap film but certainly does the job.』

(Better than Expected)
『I like this movie for a few reasons.

First of all, I like the "documentary/mocumentary" style. It's completely different and refreshing. It reminds me of watching any regular family's home videos, which have some kind of campy yet relate-able appeal. I felt like I was really watching someone's video, instead of a movie that was trying to make it appear like it.

Also, I like how the horror snuck up you. Still watching halfway through, it still feels like a regular camping scenario (which I still enjoyed watching because I've done my share of hiking in the woods myself), but then they find strange objects. As the movie progresses, they continue to find "presents" which get stranger and stranger, and the scenario at the very end was very eerie indeed.

You never see any "ghosts" or hear anything out of the ordinary, which adds to the creepiness. Their hike is like any hike that you or I may experience, except that the more lost they get, the stranger things become. Only, these strange things could very easily happen in real life.

I just have some questions. I'll try to make them as vague as possible for those who still haven't seen the movie. What was in that bundle of sticks that the girl unwrapped (I couldn't tell what exactly it was)? Why were those hand prints there? Why was the guy just standing there (or how should I say, why couldn't he move? I would've been fighting tooth and nail)

Still, the whole atmosphere of the movie towards the end is just super creepy, and I had to wait a while until I could go to sleep, lol.』

(Modern Horror Classic)
『After recently seeing the enjoyable but flawed "paranormal activity" I was inspired to revisit this movie. I first saw it at 18 y/o, when it was still in very limited release (at the time I think it was only at one theater in Chicago). I walked in knowing the general premise of the movie and knowing it wasn't "real", but the movie still provided me with probably the most impactful movie going experience i've ever had (at least on a visceral level).
Never before or since had I had such an overwhelming sense of dread walking out of a theater, and the ending of the film was something that lingered with me for weeks later.

Repeated viewings, however, didn't hold up as well.... I imagine due largely to the fact that there isn't an inherent entertainment factor to the movie (the dialougue is naturalistic, and as such isn't particularly clever or entertaining), and due to the fact that there was no way the movie could live back up to my initial viewing.
But watching it again after roughly 5 years, I was reminded of what is/was so great about this movie. As many others have already said, what we can't see is always more frightening than what we can, and that's what the entire movie is based on, but equally as frightening is the idea of the unknown... that is to say, to not know what to do, to not know what will happen to us next, and in that sense the film really excels.

As we watch the three filmmakers wander through the woods, becoming more and more lost and running out of options, the viewer becomes more and more caught up because we don't know what is going to happen next.... the conclusion is never obvious or (IMO) foreshadowed in a conclusive way. As movie watchers we become so used to conventions of genre that more often than not we know how a film will likely end as soon as it begins, and 99% of the time we know whats headed for the characters before the characters themselves know. Blair Witch does not allow the viewer this comfort, which makes it all the more unsettling.

As such, the ending comes as a shock, and the use of the house at the end, after over on hour of wandering through seemingly endless woods, is about as effective of a horror device as I've ever seen used.
But be forewarned, in order to really get the most out of this movie, it needs to be watched intensely, that is to say in a dark room, without family/friends talking, without a computer in the background, without the phone on. If you just half-watch the movie, you will get next to nothing out of the amazing last 20 min, and will likely end up among the many other one star reviews.』

『Three film students set out into the black hills forest to make a documentary on the legendary Blair Witch. Armed with a 16mm camera, a Hi8 video camera, and a Dat Recorder, every step, word and sound is captured. After wandering around black hills forest, Heather, Josh, and Mike are cold, lost and hunted.』
The Blair Witch Project
Anyone who has even the slightest trouble with insomnia after seeing a horror movie should stay away fromThe Blair Witch Project--this film will creep under your skin and stay there for days. Credit for the effectiveness of this mock documentary goes to filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, who armed three actors (Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, and Josh Leonard) with video equipment, camping supplies, and rough plot outlines. They then let the trio loose into the Maryland woods to improvise and shoot the entire film themselves as the filmmakers attempted to scare the crap out of them. Gimmicky, yes, but it worked--to the wildly successful tune of $130 million at the box office upon its initial release (the budget was a mere $40,000).

For those of you who were under a rock when it first hit the theaters,The Blair Witch Projecttracks the doomed quest of three film students shooting a documentary on the Burkittsville, Maryland, legend of the Blair Witch. After filming some local yokels (and providing only scant background on the witch herself), the three, led by Heather (something of a witch herself), head into the woods for some on-location shooting. They're never seen again. What we see is a reconstruction of their "found" footage, edited to make a barely coherent narrative. After losing their way in the forest, whining soon gives way to real terror as the three find themselves stalked by unknown forces that leave piles of rocks outside their campsite and stick-figure art projects in the woods. (As Michael succinctly puts it, "No redneck is this clever!") The masterstroke of the film is that you never actuallyseewhat's menacing them; everything is implied, and there's no terror worse than that of the unknown. If you can wade through the tedious arguing--and the shaky, motion-sickness-inducing camerawork--you'll be rewarded with an oppressively sinister atmosphere and one of the most frightening denouements in horror-film history. Even after you take away the monstrous hype,The Blair Witch Projectremains a genuine, effective original.--Mark Englehart

Curse of the Blair Witch
Are you wondering just exactly who the Blair Witch was? What the Burkittsville, Maryland, legend was all about? Or what exactly fascinated student filmmaker Heather and what possibly took her, Mike, and Josh from this earth? Get all your background questions answered byCurse of the Blair Witch, a one-stop-shopping "documentary" originally produced for the Sci-Fi Channel as a tie-in marketing tool. Entirely fictionalized,Curse of the Blair Witchfocuses both on the past and the present, with copious info on the Blair Witch myth as well as on the disappearance of Heather, Josh, and Mike. As it turns out, the original witch was one Elly Kedward, who was accused in 1785 of taking blood from several children; she was subsequently banished to the harsh winter woods and left for dead. Her grisly and bloody legacy involves missing children, polluted water, disemboweled men, and a serial killer of children who claims to have been haunted by "an old woman ghost." Aside from some ineffective "newsreel" footage of the serial killer, all this intriguing information is presented convincingly and chillingly.Cursemay in fact freak you out more than the movie, and it evokes the great, pulpyIn Search Ofseries of the '70s, one of the prime inspirations for filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez. News clips of the search for Heather, Josh, and Mike lend a vérité atmosphere to the proceedings, but shed little light on their mysterious disappearance or their characters. Basically, it's a tease to go see the movie. Still,The Blair Witch Projectprovided only ever-so-slight information on the legend that haunted the forest, so you'll want this cleverly constructed mock documentary to supplement your knowledge of the film.--Mark Englehart

(John Carpenter's The Thing)
『I just purchased the Blu-Ray version of The Thing. I have previosly owned this film on laserdisc and DVD. I found the Blu-Ray version to have very sharp color and contrast and to have very clean video. The sound has improved from the DVD version. I compared it to my DVD version played on my PlayStation 3 and the Blu-Ray is definitely an improvement over the DVD. If you are looking for extras, there aren't any.』

(80's style suspense horror)
『It's been so long since I last saw this movie, I was not so sure what I expected given it is an effects movie, over a quarter of a century old. High def transfers can really pick holes in an aging movie. Surprise, surprise though, it's a great transfer, and the movie is still suspenseful and effectively ratches up the tension. The in camera effects do not date as much as earlier cgi effects or optical effects have, and any lack of effectiveness is purely down to different audience expectation rather than problems with the movie. .. though those early scenes of Russell tapping away on a huge chess playing machine and the doctor's computer program investigating the prognoses for the team (which he times on his pocket watch!) all do date the movie more than the effects do. Dark scenes with lighting by flares or torches shows up clearly, and the wide external shots of snowbound British Columbia (filling in for Antarctica) look fantastic.
The movie itself is a great example of festering paranoia, as the research team are infiltrated by a `thing' which can take the shape or form of anything it comes in contact with (via some extraordinary squelchy and messy intermediate phases of course). No-one knows who is real and who is not, as exemplified by the still classic blood test scene, one of Carpenter's best. Even the ending is one that leaves question marks the likes of which few modern `safe' movies would try. It's as if Carpenter is more in tune with the uncertainty and paranoia of 70's America, and is unwilling to embrace the burgeoning confidence and success of the 80's.
It's not for the squeamish, and is of its time, but is a classic of its genre and a treat to see on Blu-ray.

『They just don't make them like this anymore. Special effects extravaganza of a suspense/sci-fi/horror movie.』

『I have always loved this movie, glad to see it on blu-ray when i decided to buy it, looks at least ten times better!』
『Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them.』

(never leave home again)

(AWFUL! PARTS 1&2 WERE GOOD BUT THIS ONE BLOWS!)
『This plays like a bland Syfy channel movie! It has that 'TV show' look and its NOT scary for one second! The 'gore' is incredibly fake with some of the WORST CG you'll ever see in a movie! I'm tolerant of low-budget FX and love some of the lowest budget movies ever made but this is just 'off the charts' BAD without the unintentional humor that would make such lameness worthwhile. It's sad to see a series that had potential get the axe like this (I loved the first 2 movies in the series). The actors are all so damn generic and their lines are delivered so blandly that you can never forget you are just watching a movie. There are no decent charismatic characters like in the first 2 movies. Every scene is lit by massive spotlights even though most of it takes place deep in the woods at night. The redneck mutants look really stupid with big oversized heads that are like bad halloween masks you could buy in a store! This thing is awful on so many levels it would take a book to list them all. Thanks hollywood for ruining yet another promising series!』

(Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead)
『From the start, it was raw; I could not take my eyes off the movie,HEYYYYY』

(Could have, would have, shouldn't have.)
『The title of my review refers to the fact that by all means, WRONG TURN 3 : LEFT FOR DEAD should have turned out better than it did. It could have, it would have and it should have. But in the end, it didn't. Honestly folks, I'm surprised this movie even exists. When I heard about a third film in the series, I was pretty excited! It was like a pleasant surprise for us Horror fans, who never really know when a series is going to continue or end. Sadly, this movie is a little disappointing.

The WRONG TURN series has always been considered by Horror fans to be nothing more than a "poor man's" version of THE HILLS HAVE EYES or THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Which by all means wasn't a bad thing considering us Horror enthusiasts usually take what we can get in terms of crazy, mutant, hillbilly, cannibalistic, redneck mountain men. When it comes down to that, we want to keep it simple. Blood, guts and mayhem in other words. Nothing Shakespearean by any means, just good 'ol fashion hillbilly Horror!

The first one in the series had a lot going for it. Stan Winston (ALIENS, JURASSIC PARK) did the special effects for the film, giving the mutants a disgusting sense of menace. It wasn't the goriest of the series (when the movie came out, film studios were still a little reluctant to release a movie that was unrated) but then again, it didn't need to be. The first WRONG TURN was actually pretty scary during some moments. Also, the acting was actually not bad either. I was pleasantly surprised after watching the first one when it came out.

The second film in the series wasn't anywhere as good as the first, but it was still fun. WRONG TURN 2 : DEAD END added more gore, more killer mutant rednecks and a lot more nudity! It was a sequel that would have made Jason Voorhees proud! Not to mention that it had Henry Rollins in it to boot. It was a passable follow up to the first movie.

Which brings us to the third entry, WRONG TURN 3 : LEFT FOR DEAD. I hate to say it (especially in a comical way) but this movie should have been left for dead. I mean the way this movie turned out, I don't see how anyone involved with it could have felt satisfied with the finished result. The biggest problem with this movie is the directors lack of imagination. The movie starts out of nowhere and we don't even get a chance to know any of the characters before they're sliced to pieces. Once again, we don't need too much in terms of character development but a little more time spent with them (at the beginning) couldn't have hurt.

Does anybody even remember what happened in the second film? Didn't it involve a crew working on a reality TV show getting slaughtered in these same woods!?! Don't you think the big budget TV executives would have wondered where their cast and crew was after some time? Not to mention the local police and everybody's family members! The forest couldn't possibly be that large and eventually somebody would find those crazy mutant freaks. I dunno', maybe I'm digging too deep here.

Another problem I had with this movie is the lack of style. The camera work is very straight forward and basic. With no zest to it. Would it have killed them to at least throw a gritty camera lens into the mix!?! Something to make the movie look dark and sinister maybe? Most Horror movies today (in the 2000's) at least get that part right. In my opinion, such successful Horror films as HOSTEL and HIGH TENSION are well done and executed right. They filmed those movies with a camera lens that seems like a throw back to late 1970's Horror films, which I like a lot. WRONG TURN 3 doesn't even try to add interesting lens colors or camera angles to the movie. It's just there and in your face like a Porno.

There are a lot of problems with this movie and I don't want to beat a dead horse here. Let's talk about the plot now. Once again, it's pretty simple. Two prison guards are transferring a bus load of inmates through the woods and eventually their bus gets thrown from the road via rednecks in a dirty old pick up truck. As the prisoners make their way through the woods (of course a lot of macho "drama" ensues), they get picked off in gruesome ways one by one. End of story.

The movie does have some nice scenes of gore, although it would have been nice to see them shy away from some of the more obvious uses of CGI during a few of the deaths. If thats what you're looking for (a gory movie) then that shouldn't turn you away. It does give the audience tons of the red stuff. Also, the spooky music during some of the more strange moments was a nice and unexpected touch to an otherwise disappointing film. On the plus side, the make-up effects are really nice and some of the actors are actually pretty good. With a little more style, this could have been just as good as the second film in the series. Instead, because of it's faults, it stays at a number three.

Gore Hounds, check it out for nasty scenes of death! Bodies get chopped up, faces get sliced off and limbs are hacked off! Also, four people die within the first ten minutes of the movie! Not to mention the action is actually pretty good too, which is shocking considering everything else is pulled off so cheap. You can't say the special effects crew didn't try with this movie, thats for sure! With a little more time and thought, this could have been a fun third entry. Instead, people are just going to bash it, hate it and forget it. I really doubt if the series has any future after this movie. Oh' well. It could have, it would have and it should have. But it didn't.

I've said my bit. Over and out!』

(Wrongest Turn)
『After the first twenty minutes of Wrong Turn 3 it's fairly easy to see that this franchise wasn't being taken seriously as it suffers greatly from bad writing, bad directing and bad casting. Folks hoping for a solid third entry are going to be miffed because the ball was dropped extremely hard. Why Declan O'Brien, director of SyFy's Cyclops, Monster Ark&Rock Monster, and first-time screenwriter Connor James Delaney were selected to helm this highly anticipated sequel to a much-loved franchise is a mystery.

Wrong Turn 3 was nonsensical and clichéd, not to mention poorly directed; actors seemed spaced-out and lost. Hokey B-movie dialogue coupled with barely disguised English accents didn't help the situation either. From start to finish, this was insultingly silly and tragically predictable. Did I also mention this had digital blood? Man even the cannibal h8llbillies were less "wily inbred hill folk" and more "goofy Middle Earth forest trolls." Major disappointment, missed opportunity.

This is one small cut and a blur away from being a SyFy Saturday original film. Then again, perhaps that was the plan all along?

What a steamer. I really enjoyed the first two Wrong Turn films, they both delivered relatively interesting characters and thrilling sequences despite their "been there, done that" concepts. As we all know though, nothing lasts forever and a film franchise's chances of improving with each successive sequel get slimmer and slimmer. It's just a shame the Wrong Turn series hit the skids so quickly, I guess that's what happens when you give a SyFy Channel producer and his hacky sack cronies a juicy property and a low budget.』

『ITS HUNTING SEASON IN THE DEEP BACK WOODS FOR THREE FINGER AND HIS FAMILY OF HIDEOUSLY DEFORMED INBRED CANNIBAL HILLBILLIES!』
『Well, it doesn't waste any time: the opening sequence ofWrong Turn 3: Left for Deadgets cracking with an eyeball-popping sequence of gory horror that signals the carnage-fest to come. (And the termeyeball-poppingis meant to be taken quite literally here.) This sequel in the crazed-inbred-hillbilly franchise places a group of hardened prisoners, and a few guards, in the midst of foresty mayhem, along with the lone survivor of the opening attack on river-rafting teens (Janet Montgomery). So after the first few minutes the entire film takes place at night in a thick forest, which leads to visual monotony despite the periodic attacks from insane rednecks and skin-lacerating booby traps. (In fact, the most heroic character deliberately leads the cons in circles in the forest--not the most exciting narrative device.) The dialogue is clunky and some of the peripheral acting is Z-movie level, but give the movie credit for including a couple of authentic badasses: Tamer Hassan (fromLayer CakeandEastern Promises) as a furious gangster, and hulking Gil Kolirin. The indestructibility of the villains makes any chance of credibility impossible (who knew inbreeding would result in such superpowers?), so the only choice is to sit back and witness the various ingenious ways of killing. Which are many. The coda will probably have viewers outraged, but by then you know what kind of movie you're watching.--Robert Horton

(Well Worth Watching Again)
『I saw this movie ten years ago or so and was blown away by the twist ending that I never saw coming. I just watched it again and was amazed by how well rendered the entire movie is and how Shyamalan plays totally fair with his "surprise". I just hope he can recapture this magic of SIXTH SENSE in the future as his other films have been very disappointing. I'm not usually a fan of Bruce Willis in his action roles but he is just perfect playing Malcom in this much quieter movie. Child actor Haley Joel Osmont is nothing short of remarkable in his role as the "disturbed" Cole. Philadelphia, a city I never think much about, comes alive and I now want to visit it and see the historic sites. And there is really a pretty nice spiritual message for a "ghost" story. Highly recommended for ages 14 and up unless unusually sensitive to shivery surprises.』

(great)
『Very happy with the product. I will look for them when I'm doing business through Amazon.』

(Excellent film!)
『I have loved this film from the day I first saw it in the theatres some 10 years ago! Altho' I always know the outcome, the excellent acting of (then) young Haley Joel Osment, and the palpable chemistry between him&both his mother (played by Toni Collette) and his therapist (played by Bruce Willis) make this movie a viewing pleasure time and again. My favorite scene is at the end of the movie when he&his mother are in the car, and he's "ready to talk about his secrets." I would highly recommend seeing this film, as there is a little bit of something for everyone - humor, suspense, drama, lost love, and reconciliation.』

(Ten Years After and Still A Great Movie!)
『This is one of my all-time favourite movies for a number of reasons and it's nice to see that even after a decade, this film ages so well and is still fun to watch. I watched "Silence of the Lambs" again recently and it hasn't aged as well for me. "The Sixth Sense" is more than just a scary movie as it has themes of redemption in trying to make things right, the difficulty of single parenthood and the tremendous impact it has on the innocent child's life both then and in the future and of course the obvious life after death/spirit world issues. The unexpected twist is a key reason for what makes this film work so well and yet unlike "Silence ..." even when you know the ending, the excellent treatment of the various other themes mentioned earlier makes it still watchable. With "Silence ..." I get the feeling I already know the final score of the basketball game and so a massive amount of future enjoyment value is lost with repeated viewings. Each time I watch "The Sixth Sense" though, I still find myself rediscovering elements that I'd somehow missed earlier. This film like a true classic rewards repeated viewings very well.

This Collector's Edition dvd is also a treat as it comes in very good Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound quality and the picture quality is for the most part very good. The Special Features includes very good making-of documentary, deleted scenes and interviews with the cast and especially with the director/screenwriter himself. As far as standard format discs go this is very good and it only makes me wonder how much better the Blu-ray version can possibly be. Just like the child character in the film, the inability of adults to take the insights of children seriously enough is the only way I can explain why Haley Joel Osment didn't get the best actor Oscar for his performance here. I guess he's just too young for the academy to take him seriously? Bruce Willis has done some of his best work on this film too. Classic films like this are a one off and it's unlikely M. Night will reach the same heights of quality as he does here again although he does come close with "Unbreakable."

This is an excellent film that ages well and should be in every film-buff's library.

Highly recommended!』

(If you liked the movie it is a MUST for your collection)
『This movie is fantastic. It is a psychological thriller that keeps you in suspense until the end and then leaves you shocked. Multiple viewings help you discover all of the intricacies of the film. The active was superb. This is a classic that everone should own if they like the movie. This movie will be as good 10 years down the road.』
『Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis (ARMAGEDDON, THE SIEGE) brings a powerful presence to an edge-of-your-seat thriller from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (Oscar(R)-nominee for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director) that critics are calling one of the greatest ghost stories ever filmed. When Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Willis), a distinguished child psychologist, meets Cole Sear (Oscar(R)-nominee Haley Joel Osment, Best Supporting Actor), a frightened, confused, eight-year-old, Dr. Crowe is completely unprepared to face the truth of what haunts Cole. With a riveting intensity you'll find thoroughly chilling, the discovery of Cole's incredible sixth sense leads them to mysterious places with unforgettable consequences!』
『"I see dead people," whispers little Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), scared to affirm what is to him now a daily occurrence. This peaked 9-year old, already hypersensitive to begin with, is now being haunted by seemingly malevolent spirits. Child psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) is trying to find out what's triggering Cole's visions, but what appears to be a psychological manifestation turns out to be frighteningly real. It might be enough to scare off a lesser man, but for Malcolm it's personal--several months before, he was accosted and shot by an unhinged patient, who then turned the gun on himself. Since then, Malcolm has been in turmoil--he and his wife (Olivia Williams) are barely speaking, and his life has taken an aimless turn. Having failed his loved ones and himself, he's not about to give up on Cole.

This third feature by M. Night Shyamalan sets itself up as a thriller, poised on the brink of delivering monstrous scares, but gradually evolves into more of a psychological drama with supernatural undertones. Many critics faulted the film for being mawkish and New Age-y, but no matter how you slice it, this is one mightily effective piece of filmmaking. The bare bones of the story are basic enough, but the moody atmosphere created by Shyamalan and cinematographer Tak Fujimoto made this one of the creepiest pictures of 1999, forsaking excessive gore for a sinisterly simple feeling of chilly otherworldliness. Willis is in his strong, silent type mode here, and gives the film wholly over to Osment, whose crumpled face and big eyes convey a child too wise for his years; his scenes with his mother (Toni Collette) are small, heartbreaking marvels. And even if you figure out the film's surprise ending, it packs an amazingly emotional wallop when it comes, and will have you racing to watch the movie again with a new perspective. You may be able to shake off the sentimentality ofThe Sixth Sense, but its craftsmanship and atmosphere will stay with you for days.--Mark Englehart
