I've seen, but not loved, the original anime, and just discovered the film.
The movie is not the anime, but it is quite good in its own right. The action scenes are spectacular and the look of the film is moody and gorgeous with several beautiful images; seriously, you could pause the video at random and do a screen capture, and over 50% of the time you'd have a nice-looking wallpaper for your PC or decent poster. The action-packed battles are so good, they overcome the effects, which simply aren't up to portraying the demons in "true form" convincingly. Major props to the lead, who is charismatic, athletic, and battles with a casual, experienced flair that makes you feel her character really has been using a sword for hundreds of years.
The film has its off-notes: Alice's character is poorly written or heavily edited, so that much of what she says seems stupid or out of context. As in "The Legend of Chun-Li," Asia is crawling with Americans running things, instead of, you know, Asians, and not just on the military base. And the writer(s) would have done well to lead with the information in the cliched "big reveal." George Lucas and Mark Hamill have ruined such revelation scenes for at least a couple of generations.
But overall, if you're any sort of action movie/martial arts fan, your overwhelming reaction to this film will be a Keanu Reeves-like "whoa." I don't get the Japanese fascinations with school-girl outfits and swords, but this film makes them work.』
(MORE ACTION AND EXCITEMENT than the animated movie!!!) 『For fans of the manga or anime versions this movie could make them a little dissapointed because Saya is not THAT quiet and tough looking. Besides, there are a few vampire monsters and more zombies and ninjas. I guess that makes the fans very angry.
BUT I DON'T CARE!!! ALL I CARE IS ABOUT THE ACTION! In this movie, Saya is a ONE-GIRL ARMY slashing lots of vampire-zombies and ninjas, the fight choreography is AWESOME! you'll see the "fast/slow motion" camera each time Saya kills an enemy, the cinematography is BEAUTIFUL as Crouching Tigger Hidden Dragon, the one to one fights were COOL, and the acting was okay.
I think that this is one of the few cool live-action animes ever! I mean... this one is good as Crying Freeman, Guyver 2 and Kill Bill vol. 1 because the action is more important than the concept but without trying to ruin it. No movie can be so specific as the series or comics but as long as the concept is still there then there is an opportunity to make the film very entertaining.
Adios.』
(A lot of fun despite being a bit of a mess and having poor CGI) 『I had a lot of fun watching this despite the film being plagued by a host of problems. For one thing, how can anyone botch CGI in this day and age? I mean, if you've watched BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, you've seen how good television can do CGI. The Cylon Centurions are just spectacular and you often simply forget that they are produced by a computer program. Then in the movie CAPRICA that introduces the new BSG prequel, we see an individual Cylon that moves from merely looking photo realistic to actually "acting." The subtlety is breathtaking. But BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE? The CGI in this film seems to come from 1996, not 2009. Or take BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, which debuted in the spring of 1997. The "dusting" of vampires looked more convincing in that show than the blobs of blood in this film does in 2009. I watched the film on Blu-ray and perhaps it didn't look so bad on regular DVD, but it was just appalling in high-def. But the visual low point was unquestionably any scene featuring a demon -- with our without his hostage -- running around in an urban landscape. Watching that demon bounce around was the most painful bit of CGI since watching the Hulk bounce around the desert like a tennis ball in Ang Lee's misguided film. But the silly looking blood that spurts out from time to time makes the demon look high tech.
If you can get past the silly CGI, and the needless messiness of the plot, there are some fun moments. I liked the conceit of having a centuries old demon-hunting vampire who looks like an Asian school girl. I never saw the animated film the film is based on, but with some minor improvements this might have been one of the best films around featuring a vampire hero. Saya is a compelling character, well-played by Gianna Jun and really enjoyable in her long string of action sequences. The film would have been improved by a firmer implementation of the "less is more" principle. The length of the film was too brief to support the several story arcs contained within the film. Eliminating one or two would have streamlined the story and allowed them to focus more on character development and strengthening the remaining storylines. This would have left the film with less of a fragmented feel. As it is, the central story of Saya seeking a confrontation with her demonic nemesis (whose identity turned out to be disappointingly pedestrian and expected) is complicated by betrayals from within covert government operations, by a poorly told back story, and an insufficiently articulated story in the present.
All that aside, the film was still fairly entertaining. Its many flaws keep it from being as much fun as it ought to be, but it certainly is far from a completely waste of time.』
(Just Awesome) 『Actually improving on the excellent 2002 anime, the new live-action Blood: The Last Vampire is a dynamic horror-action rocket ride through an ancient war of demons that still rages in the modern day. Ji-Hyun Jun of 2003's The Uninvited (listed in Blood's credits simply as 'Gianna', allegedly because it was thought anglicizing the names of the film's Asian actors would make it go over better in English-speaking countries, which sounds kind of bizarre...) plays Saya, the vampiric half-human ultimate weapon of The Council, an ancient organization dedicated to preventing a demonic takeover of the world. They've operated in secret over the ages and Saya is their assasin and most skilled combatant, a superhumanly strong, martial-arts trained immortal warrior armed with a sword charged up with 'dark energy' from the legions of demons it's slain. In 1970s Japan, Saya is sent undercover into a high school for the children of military personell on an American army base that the demon shapeshifters have infiltrated. Saya finds an unlikely ally and friend in Alice McKee (Allison Miller), the daughter of the base's commanding officer, and the two find themselves unexpectedly on the scene of a much larger demonic infiltration than The Council expected, and the cusp of a major demon uprising.
Saya has led a solitary life over the centuries, dedicated only to slaying demons, even though - and this is conveyed subtly rather than stated outright - she's inwardly torn. Her vampire half relates to the demons more than to humans. In one of the movie's most telling moments - happening fairly early on and so not a spoiler - Saya cuts herself and feeds her own blood to a demon she's just mortally wounded, apparantly to ease the pain of its death throes and offer some comfort. We see the origins of Saya - her early years in an isolated mountain village following the death of her demon-hunter father, her training at the hands of a kind old warrior, the tragedies that set her on the course of life she's followed for the last few centuries. We don't, however, see the origins of the demon war in any detail (I'd love to see this part delved into in a sequel); hence we don't see if the demons really are just purely malevolent, bloodhungry beasts, or if they have some other motivation for the war, 'their side of the story' so to speak. Questions along this line have occured to Saya as well, as seen in flashbacks. So she's spent ages fighting a war that she has doubts about, and locking those doubts inside. She's also led a friendless existance. The other agents of The Council are her allies, but not her friends. The bond she forms with Alice has an immediate effect. Saya is very quick and violent in her actions, but at least once in the latter parts of the movie she seems to restrain herself because, for the first time in ages, there's actually someone who she cares what they think of her. The duo of Saya and Alice compliment each other very well: although Alice has next to nil fighting skills and has to depend almost exclusively on Saya in physical situations, it's Alice that the emotionally damaged Saya starts to depend on psychologically.
The monsterous, bloody action is tremendous. It walks a line between the enormously stylized and deliberately exaggerated-for-symbolic-effect action of Asian epics like Hero and the more realistic (as in the context of otherworldy creatures or phenomena, not what regular humans could do) vibe that Asian horror movies often strive for, ending up along the general lines of a slightly easternized relative of Underworld (Unrated Extended Cut). Blood: The Last Vampire is the only movie I've seen where things like a sword cutting an enemy straight down the middle and in two actually looked realistic. There are a couple of moments that could be argued to be too over the top, but they worked for me with the overall flow of the movie. The CGI effects on the demons in certain scenes could have been better (and this will probably become a major point of contention for fans accustomed to action movies that can afford a hundred million dollars for the FX budget alone) but, while they weren't the greatest, they certainly weren't the worst - and that includes movies that probably had vastly bigger budgets. And these effects in question only come to play in a couple of scenes. The rest of the time, the special effects (CGI included) are just fine.
The only other real drawback is that you could argue the movie was too short. With the amount of ground they're covering it could have been a full hour longer. I prefer to think that the aspects that got short play in this will just be picked up on in a sequel (I don't know if that's Likely) and expanded there - the origins of the war, more screen time for some of the supporting characters, etc. But the quick pace, in my opinion, didn't hurt things at all. It moved fast, hit hard, and unlike a lot of movies that go this fast most of the time, it didn't lose its emotional punch or the ability to drop hints at a much larger overall saga than the one chapter we're witnessing here. This is one of the year's best and it's a shame it's flown under the radar of much of the moviewatching public. Highest recommendation.』
(Dont bother with this, GO watch the Anime film its based on) 『About 30 minutes into this movie I realized one thing: why did I bother to rent it. About 15 minutes after that I realized a second thing: what else is on TV right now. Yep, after about 45 minutes I took the disk out and put it back in the netflix sleeve, shipping it back the next morning. This movie pretends to be based on the hit anime movie of the same name, but therein do the similarities begin and end. Save yourself the time (I am sure your time is as valuable as mine) and rent/buy/watch the original anime movie. Even if you are not a fan of anime I promise you, its a far superior movie to this one, in every way.

(Own The Greatest TV Series of All Time) 『I have seen many TV shows. Just about every drama/sci-fi/fantasy/action/adventure show to come on TV since the 90s and all I can say is BUFFY is the best one I have seen. The characters are charming and identifiable and the dialogue is ACTUALLY funny and intelligent, and the season-long arcs that develop are intriguing and always fun. Sarah Michelle Gellars sells the teenage girl developing into a heroine act perfectly and the rest of the ensemble make it all the more compelling. Whatever you're preconcieved notions about BUFFY were, and you haven't seen it, throw those preconceptions away. Because odds are you will be blown away by this show. And I know how hyped I sound. But it really is top-notch television, and should belong among the ranks of THE SOPRANOS, THE WIRE and the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. The underlying themes found within the series are so relevant to life as we know it, you almost won't notice them but they are there if you look.
Every season is great. Sure, some are better than others, but every year Joss Whedon and his slew of writers created new, exciting elements to keep the show fresh. And it is fresh all the way up to the spectacular series finale, so that makes it all the more sad once it is gone.
BUFFY has something for everyone--the comedy, the horror, the romance, and the all-out ass-kicking, demon-slaying action. And it never feels cheap, cheesy or contrived. I love it. And I whole-heartedly recommend that you give it a try. It is one of the most rewarding TV experiences you could have.

(The best way to get Buffy to your video library) 『This set is definitely for you Buffy fans that do not own already the 7 seasons. Beautiful prints, and the minimum space that takes, makes it shiny between you DVD library. I had already Season 1 and 2, but after seeing this box set, didn't cared to buy them again. I have already bought the Angel Complete Collection set box also, that will sit beside this. Does it worth it to buy this again if you have already the seasons: not at all. It only offers an additional DVD with some extras, but nothing you can't live without. So, keep them and don't throw you money if that is your case.』
(Great Show but not very good quality) 『Im a relatively late comer to the Buffyverse. I hadnt ever seen an episode until earlier this year when a friend of mine told me that I had to watch the show. After about 12 years of hearing how great it was I caved in and downloaded the first season and loved it so much I bought the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Collector's set. What drew me into the show were the characters, the amazing writing and the great pacing. At the end of every episode I have been entertained as much as is possible in 45 minutes. Watching these has made something very noticeable. The video quality is often lacking. There are often scenes where it seems like I am seeing double. The motion can get blurry and make things hard on the eyes. In a world where we were getting superb HD releases on blu-ray and even hd dvd at the time the video quality on this release is unacceptable. There really isnt a reason why they would be releasing a dvd that makes it feel like the viewer is seeing double. Until this is rereleased digitally remastered (and hopefully in HD) then this is the way to go to enjoy one of the greatest shows ever made (it has my vote as greatest.』
(A FAN PLEASURE!) 『I am so glad they came out with the box set of the entire series. I am an avid DVD collector and am very glad that they made a smaller version of the entire series to allow me more space on my shelves. 『From its charming and angst-ridden first season to the darker, apocalyptic final one,Buffy the Vampire Slayersucceeds on many levels, and in a fresher and more authentic way than the shows that came before or after it. How lucky, then, that with the release of its boxed set of seasons 1-7, you can have the estimable pleasure of watching a near-decade ofBuffyin any order you choose. (And we have some ideas about how that should be done.)
First: rest assured that there's no shame in coming toBuffylate, even if you initially turned your nose up at the winsome Sarah Michelle Gellar kicking the hell out of vampires (inBuffy-lingo, vamps), demons, and other evil-doers. Perhaps you did so because, well, it looked sort of science-fiction-like with all that monster latex. Start with season 3 and see that Buffy offers something for everyone, and the sooner you succumb to it, the quicker you'll appreciate how textured and riveting a drama it is.
Why season 3? Because it offers you a winning cast of characters who have fallen from innocence: their hearts have been broken, their egos trampled in typically vicious high-school style, and as a result, they've begun to realize how fallible they are. As much as they try, there are always more monsters, or a bigger evil. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the core crew remains something of a unit--there's the smart girl, Willow (Alyson Hannigan) who dreams of saving the day by downloading the plans to City Hall's sewer tunnels and mapping a route to safety. There are the ne'r do wells--the vampire Spike (James Marsters), who both clashes with and aspires to love Buffy; the tortured and torturing Angel (David Boreanz); the pretty, popular girl with an empty heart (Charisma Carpenter); and the teenage everyman, Xander (Nicholas Brendon).
Then there's Buffy herself, who in the course of seven seasons morphs from a sarcastic teenager in a minidress to a heroine whose tragic flaw is an abiding desire to be a "normal" girl. On a lesser note, with the boxed set you can watch the fashion transformation of Buffy from mall rat to Prada-wearing, kickboxing diva with enviable highlights. (There was the unfortunate bob of season 2, but it's a forgivable lapse.) At least the storyline merits the transformations: every time Buffy has to end a relationship she cuts her hair, shedding both the pain and her vulnerability.
In addition to the well-wrought teenage emotional landscape,Buffydeftly takes on more universal themes--power, politics, death, morality--as the series matures in seasons 4-6. And apart from a few missteps that haven't aged particularly well ("I Robot" in season 1 comes to mind), most episodes feel as harrowing and as richly drawn as they did at first viewing. That's about as much as you can ask for any form of entertainment: that it offer an escape from the viewer's workaday world and entry into one in which the heroine (ideally one with leather pants) overcomes demons far more troubling than one's own.--Megan Halverson』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great Dracula Collection) 『"Creatures of the night" and "Children of the night" are featured on this nice package. Formidable movies, considering that most of them were filmed in the early thirties. I used to watch the classic Dracula movies in my younger years, I really loved them, and still do. This is a great collection, well worth having. Also recommended are Frankenstein the Legacy Collection and The Mummy Collection.』
(A Long Search Has Ended) 『I spent decades trying to find the Spanish Language version of the original Dracula Movie (starring Bela Lugosi) that was filmed at the same time as the original, even using the same sets. This DVD Collection was all that I could have hoped for.
Excellent Transaction, Excellent Service, and of course Excellent Product.』
(Great set - great value - but Universal could have done more...) 『Lot of reviews here and everyone knows the story, so I'll comment on some things from a different angle. You have the option of watching Dracula with an optional soundtrack by Philip Glass performed by the Kronos Quartet. Having studied Philip Glass while majoring in music composition at a music conservatory, I am familiar with many of his works, and was curious to see if his style of composition would work with this movie. I'm sad to say it does not. Glass is known for repetition and variation of motifs. I first thought it might just work with the film because his music, with all of it's repetitive eighth notes might coincide with the hypnotic state cast by Dracula over his subjects. But there are only certain scenes when Dracula actually performs his hypnotic casting, but Glass' driving eighth notes repeating over and over with very little relief just amounts to driving you mad -- I could only take about 20 minutes of it and had to switch back the original sound track. It's not just Glass' style, it just doesn't sound like it was composed to "add" emotional depth to the scenes; instead, it is in the foreground and is almost constantly playing and comes across like a contemporary musical composition being showcased with the movie Dracula projected in the background. To make matters worse, it is very loud compared to the actor's speech, so there are some quite scenes where you actually miss what the character is saying because the string quartet drowns them out.
Here's the sad part: for this optional soundtrack, Universal cleaned up the noisy background hiss of the original and processed it in Digital Dolby, but did nothing to clean up the original soundtrack -- how lame is that? Well, I'm willing to listen to the noisy background of the original just to be rid of a very unsuccessful "soundtrack" that draws attention to itself and actually detracts from the movie instead of enhancing it. Isn't it a mystery how Hollywood operates? You just gotta wonder sometimes. I understand there are costs and profits at stake for everything you do, but wouldn't you think for a classic like this they would run the film through one of the many computerized digital correction facilities that are available these days to correct, cleanup, and enhance both the visual and audio aspects of these old, historic films? Instead, they blow the money to have someone compose a contemporary soundtrack!?! Crazy, isn't it?
This review is already too long, but let me just mention that I had been curious for awhile to see the Spanish production that I've heard so much about as being superior. Personally, I did not think it was superior. The actor that plays Dracula has big ears and always seems to have some sort of goofy smile - I found nothing sinister, suave, or hypnotic about him. Nor did I find the lighting or camera angles more dramatic. The actor who plays Renfield, while found in the cargo section of the boat is just laughing like he heard a really funny joke, nothing scary there or implication that he's insane, whereas, Dwight Frye's acting in the same scene (in the American production), when the police open the hatch and look down into the cargo area, there's Renfield staring up at them with eyes wide open in a trance and he's letting out a frighting half groan, half laugh as only someone who is deeply demented and raving mad would do. What I did find interesting about the Spanish version was that it contained more dialogue and explained some scenes in greater detail. I think part of the mystique that makes the American version so eerie is it's silence and minimal dialogue. Remember, it's director, Tod Browning had just come from directing silent pictures where visually the set and actors had to convey what would be normally be revealed through dialogue. And it's this "non-wordiness" that is very effective in adding mystique and suspense that culminates in a film that penetrates a deeper and lingering horror that is so much more successful than the graphic slice-n-dice, blood, gut and gore movies that comprise the horror movies of today.』

(CAUTION: Flawed DVD discs, not the motion pictures themselves) 『I love the classic Universal black and white monster movies---not sure why they manufactured and sold flawed discs. My discs (unlike many reviews) were not scratched, but pristine. The first disc (containing Dracula) worked fine. But the second disc is flawed. "House of Dracula" starts to skip and lock up just after the 58 minute mark, when Talbot comes in to confront the doctor. Same thing occurred on two different DVD players of mine which are cleaned regularly. So don't get too upset as it seems many people have received flawed copies of these "Legacy" collections. A recall is in order. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Is God Dead?) 『I suppose calling this a horror movie is perhaps missing the mark, as Polanski seems less concerned with the demonic element than he does the way in which the world closes in around young Rosemary and the increasing lack of trust she has in those around her, including her husband.
The movie is not without its suspense and I suppose could have been quite shocking in its time to some viewers, but those looking back on it will most likely find it comic, especially in the way the elder neighbors, played impeccably by Ruth Gordon and Sidney Blackmer come to dominate Rosemary's life. Lots of funny allusions to herbs and spices, including the use of "tannis root" in Rosemary's milkshakes, which vexes her old friend "Hutch," who tries to help her out but alas to no avail. Rosemary appears destined to her fate, so it is the journey that she goes through the most concerns Polanski.
Mia Farrow truly shines in this movie, even with her bad hair days. She is in virtually every scene of the movie and Polanski pours over her like the devil himself, including the infamous rape scene. She is amicably supported by John Cassavetes, who is good as a struggling actor looking for his big break. Ralph Bellamy is excellent as the leading gynecologist in New York, Dr. Abraham Sapirstein, and even Charles Grodin makes a cameo as Rosemary's last hope, Dr. Hill.
There's a lot of juicy bits and pieces about witchcraft and how the old Dakota Building in upper Manhattan came to be haunted. For those who read Levin's book, you won't be disappointed either, as Polanski doesn't drift far from the text, even picking up on the allusions to the Pope's visit and the infamous issue of Time, Is God Dead?

I enjoyed the acting because i never really watched a movie from the 60's before. The old nosy lady was interesting and she added a bit of humor to the film. It probably was a classic in it's day but in 2009 no. It's 2 hours long too.』
(Horror at its Very Best) 『What can I say? Rosemary's Baby is everything a horror movie should be, and then some. The actors are all tremendous in their performances, none of which feel alike in any sense, especially Mia Farrow and Ruth Gordon, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film. Roman Polanski's direction is unrivaled as he shows us The Dakota at its most haunting. The exterior may have only been used, but still, the tunneling hallways and cavernous rooms. Even if it's bright and sunny, the apartment Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse (played by great director John Cassavetes) still gives off an eerie aura. I highly recommend this to horror auteurs who have yet to venture down this venue of atmospheric horror and those who just want to enjoy a great film. A+.』

To Rosemary, the pregnancy seems like a normal and happy one--that is, until she grows increasingly suspicious of her neighbors' evil influence. Polanski establishes this seemingly benevolent situation and then introduces each fiendish little detail with such unsettling subtlety that the film escalates to a palpable level of dread and paranoia. By the time Rosemary discovers that her infant son "has his father's eyes" ... well, let's just say the urge to scream along with her is unbearably intense! One of the few modern horror films that can claim to be genuinely terrifying,Rosemary's Babyis an unforgettable movie experience, guaranteed to send chills up your spine.--Jeff Shannon』

As a Fileophile (I hope I get credit for that word) I started watching the series with this season and got hooked. It preceded the first movie and by that time was given credit for being one of the best (if not THE best) sci-fi series of all times. What's more, try watching them all in order, if for no other reason than a daily dose of Scully!』
(The X Files achieved it before Fringe) 『"Fringe" fans, The X files started it on FOX.
If you have not seen the X Files, Check out the series. David Duchovny added so much to his character he seems like a real guy. Mitch Pileggi's performance at portraying the cool, level minded Skinner is always the humble hero for Mulder and Scully and for the viewer. Gillian Anderson is so convincing, we all know her as Scully, that's just how top notch these actors are. Mark Snow's haunting melodic music brings a chill to each scene. Chris Carter's idea for a TV show is by far better than most SCI FI shows. The X Files is an instant classic telling science fiction stories as it was meant to be.
I have to include Millennium, if you have not scene it, ignore the critics and try it. I thought that was one of Chris Carter's best ideas. I also have all three seasons of Millennium on DVD.
As far as any X Files DVD set, there is an alien conspiracy going on that you will want to see from season one. With that said, the regular "filler episodes" outside the alien conspiracy are more for my taste anyway and there is plenty in each season. They are stand alone episodes that are mini-movies. In my opinion, the reason why the X Files films did not do so well is because they already used the same quality of writing and producing for TV.
No SCI FI show today has the look, the music and quality of guest casting like the X Files. The crew are top notch and each an every show they gave 150%.』
(Best price.) 『This is the slim set so it's a great price just for the movies. Very little extra. If you are buying for yourself and have to save money, look for used sets at discount stores.
If you're going to purchase DVDs new, I don't know why you would not order from Amazon. I've never been disappointed. Free shipping for purchases over $25, even if the purchases are split up. Direct mailing so I don't have to wrap it and mail it. Depending on where you live, purchases are often tax-free. Great return policy, although I can't remember ever returning anything.』
(X-Files equals sweet Sci-Fi action!) 『Another fantastic season of the best scifi based TV series ever. With great episodes including redux I and II, as well as the critically acclaimed Post-Modern Prometheus and Kill Switch written by William Gibson. One of my favorite seasons.』
(X-files DVD's) 『We were very pleased with our purchase of X-Files DVD's. Of course, we already knew we would like the subject. But in addition, we were pleased with the price, ease of ordering, and speed of shipping. Amazon is an excellent source of...nearly anything you need!』 『Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 12/02/2008 Run time: 820 minutes Rating: Nr』 『The midpoint of what would be a nine-season show, the fifth season ofThe X-Files(the first to be put on DVD in anamorphic widescreen format) gives fans a heavy heaping of what they love. For the mythology buffs, riveting episodes from the season bookends "Redux" and "The End" to several episodes in between tease with new revelations about the vast government conspiracies and alien invasion plot lines sketched in earlier seasons. But enough questions are left unanswered for the theatricalX-Filesmovie, which was released the subsequent summer, and the seasons that followed. Supporting characters like the Lone Gunmen, Agent Krycek, the Pusher Robert Modell, and Fox's father and sister Bill and Samantha Mulder are flushed out in more detail in several episodes that occasionally jump back in time to cover the prehistory of the X-files. New chess pieces are introduced, each raising new questions: the clairvoyant child Gibson Praise, Agent Spender, faceless alien resistance fighters with pyromaniacal tendencies, a child who may be Scully's, and Mulder's old flame, agent Diana Fowley (Mimi Rogers). All the time, no one knows who will be assassinated next, who is or isn't dead, just who isn't potentially a child of the Cigarette Smoking Man, and why the base of the neck is everyone's vulnerable spot. The creature feature stand-alone episodes vary in quality, but all are redeemed by the outrageously funny self-parody episode "Bad Blood," a fan favorite that guest stars Luke Wilson as a small-town sheriff who catches Scully's eye.
Finally, "shippers" (fans who would love nothing better than to see Mulder and Scully act upon their feelings for each other) get a heavy dose of the usual sexual innuendo and lingering, tender glances between the attractive costars. Mimi Rogers and Luke Wilson incite palpable jealousy between the leads; the appearance of a wedding band on Mulder's hand in a back story hints at stories not told; and the usual extreme and dimly lit crises illustrate just how far Mulder and Scully will go for each other. In the end, the complexities of their relationship may be the most tense and intriguing of all the mysteries explored by this epic television series.--Eugene Wei』

I found many of the advises from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective people in these series. They also brought back many of the old memories. I love them. It's too bad they don't come with subtitles in English and Spanish. I have relatives who speak Spanish and they used to watch these series in Mexico. I hope they will publish them at least with subtitles in Spanish I know many people would buy them.』
(Not as good as original, but a must for any fan!) 『I enjoyed the episodes. A glut of ghost type stories, but interesting nevertheless. Just as with the originals, there are some chapters that are better than others, and some that are just plain weak.』

(A Great Series But Sadly The Set Lacks A Great Deal) 『I remember watching this show every Friday night when I grew up and when I saw that it had finally come out on dvd I had to get it right away, sadly this Image entertainment company did a poor sad job of the quality of this great show though. The first problem was the audio, about nine episodes had audio only on one speaker of the t.v. or home theater system usually the right, and than the video quality while not to atrocious could have been definitely been done better. The video seemed blurred a little on half the episodes and directly copied from tapes for the other half, I'm glad I got this on sale for only $20 dollars because the quality is about that if not less. Again the show itself is incredible and the episodes are still memorable to watch, but the sad quality of the dvds they put these episodes on makes it such a headache to much to bear sometimes. I know that CBS who has the original ownership went with this studio maker to save money but if they keep trying to make cost cutting decisions like this it'll bite them back in the end. So if you are a longtime fan of the show and don't mind the mistakes of this set go ahead and get it but I advise to wait until it goes below $20 dollars because the quality of the set doesn't deserve anymore than that.』
(The Twilight Zone (1986-1988)) 『These updated Twilight Zones (1986-1988) were done so well they had to be added to our DVD collection. The episodes are short in duration, but sometimes that comes in handy when you are waiting for that other good program and/or movie to come on. We also have and recommend the Season 1 DVDs.』 『Travel into the fifth dimension once again with The Twilight Zone, testing the limits of reality and exploring the mysteries of the universe.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The Thing - A Thriller Classic) 『Not many movies really deserve the praise that being branded a "classic" entails (if by "classic" we mean something that people theoretically would watch in 2000 years, if civilization hadn't more or less collapsed already, of course). This is, I'm fairly certain, one of those few movies that manage to capture the best of a decade and could probably be called a "classic". Someone pointed out in a review that a movie like this had to be made in 1982, and I think there is something to that. Nobody would make something like this, not in the age of "Grey's Anatomy" and Britney Spears. "We" have definitively lost something in our culture, yet how major it is time will show.
The film is heavily inspired by Lovecraft's excellent tale "At the Mountains of Madness", both about the Antarctic and both about strange creatures originally from Space. Of course, the beginning is rather silly when it comes to the desperate "Norwegians". How hard could it be to find just two Norwegians, or someone in America that speaks Norwegian? For us Scandinavians, from the way the actors speak "Norwegian", it can be compared to someone from Jamaica supposed to be Joe American. That being said, the film starts out intensely with said "Norwegians" desperately chasing a dog over the frozen winter lands, attempting to shoot it from the air. A taste of things to come, yet the dog manages to escape into safety at the American research base. As it will turn out, had the American scientists listened to the warning offered by the Norwegians, things might have been different.
The escaped dog is placed among the other dogs in the kennel, and from this horror shall spawn. The film is an awesome film for several reasons, for one it is one of the last films made with conventional physical effects, before CGI. For this reason, the film is ever-green, not being outdated and more or less unwatchable a few years later, like most CGI-based films from the 80's and 90's. It is a bit gory for my taste at times, but it serves a purpose. Another reason the film is so great is the excellent soundtrack, and apart from the acting and the setting, the main positive feature of this great film is the suspense. The film manages to capture a situation where nobody trusts anybody perfectly, and alliances shift constantly among the station crew. Who has been infected and replaced by the alien force, and who is still human? It really is one of the most suspense filled movies I have ever seen, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Set in Antarctica and containing aliens, what else could anyone wish for? 5 stars for this excellent thriller.』
(Excellent service) 『It is an excellent product and the delivery service was excellente as well. I will keep ordering with you guys.』
(The Thing (1982)) 『The Thing(1982-I am not sure I have seen the original) is a good suspenseful yet disgusting and gory (overdone) movie. It's Horror with Sci Fi and limbs ripped off, heads moving, dogs mutating. it creeped the hell out of me growing up and then seeing it again. I guess 82' was a good year!(I was born ;) )』
(Without a doubt, one of the greatest horror movies ever made!) 『"The Thing" stars Kurt Russell and Wilford Brimley and is directed by John Carpenter. Right from the getgo, you know that this is going to be an awesome horror movie. And if that's what you guessed, well you are indeed correct! "The Thing" is a movie that's the epitome of paranoia and claustrophobia. The movie takes place among the barren landscapes of Antarctica, and focuses around twelve men secluded in a laboratory in the middle of the frost and snow. Then of course, comes the mysterious threat of the Thing!
There are so many good points of this movie, it's hard to pick just a few highlights. "The Thing" is one of those movies where everything is done right. From the characters, who are all likeable, down-to-earth men that develop their different personalities over the course of the movie. Then of course the ever-intensifying atmosphere of the film, which grows and thickens with the growing threat of the mysterious Thing. The setting is also great, showing the terror of being isolated in an area with something dangerous in your midst. And probably most apparent is the absolute brilliance of the special effects! Nowadays, it's not common to find a movie with such great special effects, as a good deal of would-be great modern horror flicks are ruined by half-done CGI. Don't worry here, though, because "The Thing" is fully loaded with awesome special effects that'll have you loving the movie even more!
Overall, "The Thing" is, as I previously mentioned, one of those movies where basically everything is simply done right. I certainly think that this movie would earn its spot among the highest-ranked horror films of all time, and is a movie that is still enjoyable no matter how much it ages, or how many times you watch it. Highly recommended! Thanks for the time, and peace.』
(Remains a superbly horrifying film) 『John Carpenter's best film by a long shot, and one of the scariest movies ever made. This movies still creeps me out. It has wonderful special effects that hold up well, and an intense story filed with desperation, paranoia and horror. The movie features no females, and average looking guys, the kind you might find at an outpost in Antarctica. Which is great because throwing in hot women or pretty boys would have really taken away from the film. Kurt Russel is the only real star in the movie. Creepy theme music, adds to an already terrific film. The movie does have a surprising number of filming errors I wont go into, and some scenes that were clearly cut or edited probably for time or money reasons. Still this remains, as to least to me, one of the scariest films you can see. The extras are ok, including some random deleted or alternate scenes, and some deleted scenes or ideas never shot. 』 『SCIENTISTS IN THE ANTARCTIC ARE CONFRONTED BY A SHAPE-SHIFTING ALIEN THAT ASSUMES THE APPEARANCE OF THE PEOPLE THAT IT KILLS.』 『Director John Carpenter and special makeup effects master Rob Bottin teamed up for this 1982 remake of the 1951 science fiction classicThe Thing from Another World, and the result is a mixed blessing. It's got moments of highly effective terror and spine-tingling suspense, but it's mostly a showcase for some of the goriest and most horrifically grotesque makeup effects ever created for a movie. With such highlights as a dog that splits open and blossoms into something indescribably gruesome, this is the kind of movie for die-hard horror fans and anyone who slows down to stare at fatal traffic accidents. On those terms, however, it's hard not to be impressed by the movie's wild and wacky freak show. It all begins when scientists at an arctic research station discover an alien spacecraft under the thick ice, and thaw out the alien body found aboard. What they don't know is that the alien can assume any human form, and before long the scientists can't tell who's real and who's a deadly alien threat. Kurt Russell leads the battle against the terrifying intruder, and the supporting cast includes Richard Masur, Richard Dysart, Donald Moffat, and Wilford Brimley. They're all playing standard characters who are neglected by the mechanistic screenplay (based on the classic sci-fi story "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell), but Carpenter's emphasis is clearly on the gross-out effects and escalating tension. If you've got the stomach for it (and let's face it, there's a big audience for eerie gore), this is a thrill ride you won't want to miss.--Jeff Shannon』

(OK, but not worth the wait.) 『Phantasm and Phantasm 4: Oblivion are two of my favorite horror movies. It had been years since I'd seen part II and was glad to see it was finally being released in US DVD format.
After watching this movie I have to say it wasn't as good as I thought it had been. It's very atmospheric with all the towns being desolate and the cemetery graves empty, but didn't really add anything to the series.
If you feel you need to own it to complete the series, go for it. Otherwise, just rent it.』
(Finally.. but lacking) 『It finally was put on DVD. I can't believe it took this long to release. The DVD is nice but nothing really special for features. I think the ones released by Anchor Bay were much better than this one. This is still good to have if you want to complete your collection of the Phantasm movies. For what it offered, I thought the price was too high. Should be cheaper.』

Bette Davis and Joan Crawford at their best. Davis ('Baby Jane') was famous as a child vaudeville star; Crawford ('Blanche Hudson') as a movie star now in a wheelchair. Bette is an unbalanced drinker whom Joan Crawford wants to put in a sanitarium. Bette tries to avoid that at all costs. She thinks she is going to revive her 'Baby Jane' act and be famous again. Davis is superb in makeup and adult-sized little girls' dress. A total classic. Watch for the teenaged girl next door. It's Bette Davis's real daughter, B.D. (who wrote the Mommy Dearest-like book on Bette, 'My Mother's Keeper').』
("Black comedy"?) 『I wouldn't call it 'edge of your seat' - it builds quite slowly - and i wouldn't call it 'black comedy' either. Certainly there are touches of the absurd - well, the whole story is somewhat absurd, but Leonard Maltin's quote on the back of the box "Thoroughly engaging black comedy" is way off the mark. For most people, I don't think a first viewing will yield much in the way of laughs - unless you found movies like "Misery" funny.
Another thing that bugged early on in the movie was the fact that while she was trapped in her upstairs room, with her neighbor working in the garden just below - she can throw a note down to her, yet she somehow can't manage to shout to her for help? There are 2 or 3 scenes like this in the first half of the movie that seem to insult the audiences' intelligence. Other than that, the movie is interesting for what it is - a showcase of 1962 theatre of the macabre, and the talents of Betty Davis and Joan Crawford. Filming and acting are fine all around, and the story slowly but surely builds interest and horror until it reaches its memorable and shocking conclusion. This is a good movie, maybe even a great one for some. It will hold more interest for the connesseur of old, unusual or even campy movies - not necessarily for the modern movie thrill seeker - for modern thrills in the macabre, check out Dexter. ;)
As for the packaging and treatment of this movie on DVD, you couldn't ask for better. Disc 2 puts the movie and it's stars into historical perspective with 3 documentaries, behind the scenes featurette, and an Andy Williams Show segment with Betty Davis. The Betty Davis documentary is substantial at over an hour giving us Davis's life story with many clips from the vast multitude of movies she made and a career that spanned 6 or 7 decades. Love that it ends with Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes". Jody Foster hosts. The second documentary spotlight on Joan Crawford consists of a BBC interview filmed in black and white in the 60s some time after Baby Jane was made. The interview captures Joan (and the times) as it recounts her filmography and the latest tabloid gossip. The special features were great and make this edition a real value for money purchase. It's great to see movies get treatment like this.』
(WOW!!! This movie is a Classic.) 『I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was 10. It scared me then and I watched it again in 2008 and I was on the edge of my seat again. This movie is a must see if you like the way movies used to be, having an actual plot. This movie has an original one.』
(Grotesque horror) 『The Bottom Line:
If Whatever Happened to Baby Jane sometimes feels like a worse Sunset Blvd jumbled up into a horror film, it makes up for it with its sheer grotesque innovation and acting; the film may be derivative but that hardly diminishes its power to horrify.
3/4』
(Why do two drag queens have commentary on this DVD?) 『I wondered why in the world would they feature a couple of drag queens on the commentary for this DVD. I realize anyone connected to this film has passed away, so they had to have SOMEONE do it. But once you listen, it is pretty entertaining. The only drawback was their constant fawning of the two stars. But some of their diva ranting was funny. One went on and on about Miss Crawford's bone structure and beauty. But then again, what are they supposed to do? You will have to sit through this odd commentary, you won't be able to help it. My only complaint is I found the audio recording of poor quality. I had to turn the volume way up to hear the commentary over the film. Anyways, I probably don't need to say much about the movie. It stands as one of the best. This movie is a must in my collection as is Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, and The Women.』 『A cultish horror favorite, 1962'sWhat Ever Happened to Baby Jane?will make you think twice before hungrily unveiling a covered plate of food. Bette Davis stars as Jane Hudson, a onetime child actress and singer. As an elderly woman, she wishes to revive her vaudevillian career, but she has become a grotesque caricature of her former self. Over the years as her star faded, the star of her older sister Blanche (Joan Crawford) rose, outshining the career of the has-been Baby Jane. Jane was relegated to minor roles, which she only won when Blanche demanded that she be awarded them. The film opens years after a calamitous car accident leaves Blanche in a wheelchair, with no one to care for her except the increasingly insane and sadistic Jane and their servant, Norman. Trying to punish Blanche for her years of success, Jane tortures the housebound woman, slowly trying to starve her to death, all the while attempting to recapture the fame of her youth. This dark drama also stars Victor Buono as the hefty pianist who answers Jane's ad for an accompanist, hoping to milk some money off the demented old woman. Both Buono and Davis were nominated for Oscars for their roles in this suspenseful and somewhat sick thriller that exploited well the real-life antagonism between Davis and Crawford, while at the same time rejuvenated both their careers.--Jenny Brown』
