(Pretty bad movie)
(An unforgetable chef d'oeuvre !)
(Beautiful love story)
(Fun Movie to Watch) Romance and adventure. The actors do a great job of portraying a very intense relationship. Not very much blood for a vamp movie. Some scary scenes may not be suitable for kids under 12. I'm glad I read the book before seeing this movie. It did not do justice to impression I had of Bella and Edward. They were too stiff in this movie. I received this dvd around April and I really really enjoyed this experience : watching my favourite film at home on my flat screen. I recommend it to everyone, the love theme is perfectly adapted, well achieved, it's brilliant. A great movie based on a success, created by this dear Mrs Meyer that we all love so much.
Buy it, you won't regret it at all. For everyone who likes love and touches of fantastic. I had avoided all of the movie trailers&magazine articles about this movie, I didn't really want to know anything going into it. I loved it!! immediatly after watching the movie, I went out and bought all 4 books which I read in 5 days&they aren't short books! I am totally in love w/ the series¤tly am on the 9th read thru of the series. I am very happy that I watched the movie before reading the books, this gave me a face to the characters&now when I read them, everytime they mention Edward rolling his eyes I can visualize it. This is a fun movie to watch. Sure it's a little rough around the production edges here and there, but for me the storyline and the actors more than made up for it. (And yes, I'm way past my teenage years.) The extra features are fun. I always like to see deleted scenes. I'd say it's worth getting the special edition if you don't already own the movie. If you already own this, but not with the special edition features, I'm not sure it would be worth it to get this too, unless you are a really passionate fan of Twilight. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) doesn’t expect much when she moves to the small town of Forks, Washington, until she meets the mysterious and handsome Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson)—a boy who’s hiding a dark secret: he’s a vampire. As their worlds and hearts collide, Edward must battle the bloodlust raging inside him as wellas a coterie of undead that would make Bella their prey. Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling sensation by Stephenie Meyer, Twilight adds a dangerous twist to the classic story of star-crossed lovers.

The big-screen adaptation ofTwilight, Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire romance, is aimed squarely at its key demographic: teen girls whose idea of Prince Charming is a brooding, pale, undead teen who could kill you instantly at any moment. Such a prince is more fascinating than frightening to new girl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves to the rainy-gray town of Forks, Wash., to live with her dad (Billy Burke), the local sheriff who's puzzled by a series of "animal attacks." On her first day at school, Bella appears to (visibly) nauseate her lab partner, Edward (Robert Pattinson). Turns out the scent of her blood is this vampire's "brand of heroin," and his struggle not to kill her causes an irresistible pull toward her. Whether he's attracted for the normal reasons or because she smells especially sweet to him is vague in the book and even less clear on-screen; nonetheless, Bella falls hopelessly in love with Edward, which sets her on a dangerous path when a few nomad vampires show up in town, one particularly keen on tracking the human. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen),Twilightis full of funny moments--not all of which are intentional--and the casting, from Stewart to Bella's self-absorbed friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) is spot-on. The weakest link, unfortunately, is Pattinson. While he certainly looks the part, his Edward could have used an extra injection of testosterone (Pattinson, who is British, used James Dean as a model for his American accent). In scenes where he growls about the temptation to kill those who would harm Bella, or flitting around a forest warning her how dangerous he is, he comes off more like a whimpering puppy than a debonair monster. The good news is, his chemistry with Stewart (particularly in their big kissing scene) is palpable, which, let's face it, is really what matters toTwilightfans most. --Ellen A. Kim
On the DVD The special features forTwilightkick off with an audio commentary with director Catherine Hardwicke and stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. There's some mumbling and groaning from Stewart (one gets the impression that Stewart is quite similar to her reserved character in the film), some standard behind-the-scenes observations from Hardwicke, and a lot of awkward self-deprecating remarks from Pattinson (of their big kiss, he opines: "This is quite difficult 'cause I have a really flat head, and so it's quite difficult to get a correct angle."). What's funny is Pattinson stumping Hardwicke with some basic plot questions, like "Why doesn't James just kill [Bella when she's packing at her house]?" While Hardwicke and Stewart attempt to answer, Pattinson doesn't appear satisfied. The deleted and extended scenes include an additional dream-sequence kiss (rightly cut because it took away from the buildup to their first kiss) and more footage of Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre). The seven-part documentary is a pretty thorough look at the development of the film, including stunts, special effects, and the involvement of author Stephenie Meyer. Another featurette looks at the Comic-Con frenzy; however, it spends no time on how the actors were cast, which would have been fun for fans who did all their own mental casting while reading the books. Also included: three music videos and trailers. --Ellen A. Kim Twilightat Amazon.com

(Like fine wine...better with age)
(STARGATE-ATLANTIS SINKS)
(Stargate Atlantis and SG-1)
(Stargate Atlantis, season 5) Season Four of STARGATE ATLANTIS was the series at its best, in large part because the show shifted the emphasis away from episodic, standalone episodes, to serial, long story arc episodes. Season Five, however, shifted increasingly back to the episodic format. There were some longer story arcs, but sadly most of the episodes were standalone. This isn't to say that there weren't some good individual episodes, but the show lacked the narrative cohesion that drove the previous season and made it so enjoyable.
As with Season Four, a significant number of the best episodes involved the wraith Todd, as Dr. Keller created a genetic modification made it possible for wraiths to subsist on regular human food. There were hints from time to time that this was leading to a dramatic realignment among the wraith, but this was never pushed to its logical conclusion. This was symptomatic of the entire season, with a lack of story arcs that would bring the series to any kind of overall conclusion. Given that they knew well before the end of the season that the series was not going to be renewed, one would have hoped for a better send off.
In the end, the series was a show with a lot of unrealized potential. They had a great concept with Atlantis, the Ancients, and the Wraiths, but the show was hurt by a failure to write strong long story arcs and by some weaknesses in the cast. Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett were marvelous as Col. Sheppherd and Rodney McKay, but too few in the rest of the cast came up to their level, and most of the other characters were either weakly written or never really developed to the degree that one might have wished. Still, the series as a whole did provide a good viewing experience. I think five seasons is about the right number for most shows. Most shows decline somewhat after that many seasons. While ATLANTIS was not as interesting in Season Five as in earlier seasons, it hadn't gone on so long that it became unlikable. And at its best, the show was a lot of fun, with some very good viewing moments. And The Wraiths have to go down on the short list of the great bad guys in TV history. I watched these episodes on my iPhone via a subscription and like them enough to buy the DVD set when it comes out. This was one of the best seasons of SGA. However, just like Enterprise, it was cancelled right when it was getting good, bummer. Mercifully, Atlantis was put out of its misery after producing yet another lacklustre season. Gone are the story arcs and in their place are a collection of filler episodes that nobody remembers nor wants to view again. The cast do their best, but when they are served up dreck by the writers of the show-who should have been put out to pasture long ago-there is only so much they can salvage. Shamefully, the cast have been given their marching orders but the culprits for the poor quality of the show, the writers, showrunners etc., have moved on to the next Stargate series to further drive the poor ailing franchise into the ground.. I really do not watch too much TV anymore because of lack of quality and/or story telling. Certain series however are the exception and Stargate is that exception for me. I have always had a liking for good Sci-fi, but that's rare for me also. I think a LOT of Sci-fi is as worthless as much of the other nonsense that is on TV.
I didn't start watching any of the Stargate series because I thought that the original movie "STUNK". But many years later I caught an episode of Stargate Atlantis and began watching the series from that point on the Sci-Fi channel. Needless to say that I began to really enjoy the Atlantis series (Rodney Mac - really takes time to endure his annoying character!). Seasons 4 and 5 were outstanding. Sooooo, I watched the entire five seasons and was not disappointed!
Soooooo, I started to watch the Stargate SG-1, just to see what all of the references, terminologies, etc, were that I did not understand in Atlantis. I began with season 1 and I am now in season 3. I'm truly enjoying the Stargate world. My brother, if he were alive, would really enjoy SG He really loved sci-fi and turned me on to it many years ago.
enjoy!
h Haven't received the DVD yet - it is due in June.

(great movie)
(Black Classis)
(Awesome movie!!) This is an adaptation of "The Wizard of OZ", geared for Black people, but can be enjoyed by anyone. I think the movie is pretty good. It showcases both the late Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, along with other noted Black movie stars (especially Lena Horne). I think it was a bit too lavish in some of the sets, but all in all, an enjoyable movie. It kept the theme of "home" that is so important and seems to be lacking these days.
Michael and Donna Washington Believe in Yourself. Great message. Must see movie for all adults and children. When in doubt of your abilities, watch this movie and believe that you can do anything you set out to do! i've looked for this dvd movie for a while. was worth the money and the bonus cd was a plus. The is the black version of the wizard of oz. If you're black and you haven't seen this, something is wrong. This movie is a family favorite. It used to come on everything Thanksgiving or Christmas when everyone were together. And all of the kids used to get in front of the Tv to watch. Today my kids even love it, it is a must have classic! This is an awesome movie. It is much more interesting and fun than the original version. And, I like seeing what Michael Jackson looked like as a normal person before too many plastic surgeries! Ease on down the yellow-brick road with the 30th Anniversary Edition of The Wiz, starring superstars Diana Ross and Michael Jackson! Relive all of the magic of this beloved musical when Dorothy is whisked away to the enchanting wonderland of Oz, where she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion. The Wiz features spectacular musical numbers from legendary producer Quincy Jones and an all-star cast including Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Nipsey Russell and Ted Ross. With a digitally remastered picture and the unforgettable soundtrack in new 5.1 surround sound, it's an experience of the land of Oz unlike anything you've seen before! Directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico) and penned by Joel Schumacher (Batman and Robin), this lavish 1978 adaptation of the Broadway hitThe Wizwas the biggest production filmed in New York City up to that point, utilizing the newly revamped Astoria Studios and locations around the city. Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, and Ted Ross (reprising his Tony-winning role as the Lion) star in this Academy Award-nominated musical for the whole family. The Wizis probably the grandest take on L. Frank Baum's classic taleThe Wizard of Oz. The production team created sets with a sense of urban magic and spectacle: a New York subway station literally comes to life, and the massive plaza between the World Trade Center towers is transformed into the Emerald City, featuring nearly 400 dancers with three costume changes. Like all good musicals, the Quincy Jones arrangements are highly hummable long after viewing (especially the funky "Ease On Down the Road" andthe inspirational "Brand New Day"). In an era before MTV, the camera stays nearly stationary as Ross and Lena Horne vocally soar through their numbers. Their stage-like performances successfully make the leap to film, makingThe Wiza testament to their singing talents and star presence. The then-thirtysomething Ross raised some eyebrows playing the traditionally teenaged Dorothy, but she and her supporting cast (including Richard Pryor as the Wiz) carry the tunes with an infectious verve that will appeal to folks of all ages. --Shannon Gee Rerations < The Wiz (30th Anniversary Edition w/ Bonus CD) >

(Dr. Horrible is brilliant.)
(Absolutely Genius)
(Great little movie!)
(Joss Whedon has a PhD in AWESOMENESS) A very amusing comic-musical. If you like Joss Whedon's work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you will probably enjoy this comic-super-villain-inspired bit of fun. As with all of Whedon's best stuff, the sharp witted comedy comes mixed with some legitimate drama and emotion. I don't want to drop any spoilers into the review. Suffice to say that everything about Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog works. It was a pleasure to see online when it was first released and the DVD takes it a step further. For those of you who don't know, during the Writer's Strike a couple of years ago, Joss Whedon (creator of "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer", "Angel" and "Firefly") and his brothers and friends decided to make a film and release it on the Internet for free. And so was born Dr. Horrible. From the casting through the music and production values, this is a gem of a piece; arguably better than most film projects coming out of LA. When the DVD became available, I bought it in spite of being able to download it for free off the Net. First, I wanted to show my support financially since I enjoyed it so much; second, I assumed that they would exponentially up the enjoyment ante with a DVD and I was right! The disc includes the movie and commentary (including a musical version called "Commentary!"), as well as fan audition videos to join the Evil League of Evil (you gotta watch the blog to understand). But the fun doesn't end there, folks! Oh, no! There are Easter Eggs in that there disc. And clues in plain sight for any that would search them out. (Of course, you can Google for the answers but that's a lot like using the answer page when doing the crossword puzzle; the finding is most of the fun). In short, buy this disc. Then buy copies for your friends and relatives. You won't be sorry. I came across this show thanks to a friend of mine. She told me it was an absolute must see. She then proceeded to sit me down and had me watch it right then and there. I had no idea what to expect. I have to say, what then proceeded for the next 40 odd minutes was brilliant.
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog had me enchanted with it from the moment the show began all the way up until the ending note. Neil Patrick Harris plays an "Evil Genius Scientist" known as Dr. Horrible/Billy, along with Nathan Fillion (Capt. Hammer) and Felicia Day (Penny).
All Dr Horrible wants is to join the Evil League of Evil. Yet along the way we find that he is in love with a girl named Penny, which he has trouble speaking to and has a nemesis called Capt. Hammer who is a really self-absorbed supposed good guy. In this comedic musical blog we follow along with Dr. Horrible as he tries to make an impression on the league and work up the nerve to finally talk to Penny. However everything tumbles down around Dr. Horrible when he accidently introduces Penny to Capt. Hammer and they hit it off.
But this isnt just a normal love triangle. This is a MUSICAL love triangle that unfolds before your eyes. Every song in this show is very catchy and makes you want to learn the words so that you can truly sing along like the title suggests. I found myself listening to each and every song over and over again. It really adds to the blogs appeal. And each of those actors really can sing.
Also along with the normal commentary and special features found on most dvds, this dvd has a musical commentary which is about another 40 oddish minutes of absolute hilariousness. I had no idea what a musical commentary would be like, but the cast of Dr. Horrible and the geniuses behind it, delivered a great commentary that seemed like it could have been a seperate show all on its own.
In any case Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog is absolutely brilliant and enjoyable. And it is one of those shows that is just so much fun to sit around afterwards and start quoting; especially when you're with people who pick up on where the quote is from and can start quoting back. In my opinion it's a must see. I wasn't sure about a musical, but with Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris, I had to give it a try. I'm glad I did! I loved the characters, the music was fun and the story was great. I love the attempt to engage a new business model in delivering movie entertainment without the traditional studio model. My only criticism (and it's mild) was the ending. While I like that Joss didn't go with the obvious "boy gets the girl", the brief sadness of the ending seemed a little out of tune with the rest of the film. I watched this on Hulu this weekend... and fell in love. I can't wait for Amazon to ship me a copy, so I have one reserved at Borders and will be picking it up tonight. A wanna-be super-villain with a video blog... and everyone sings! What's not to love?! (Yes, I know I should wait and review the DVD as a whole, "Commentary! The Musical" included, but I still won't be able to give it more than 5 stars. I bought the album on iTunes, does that count?)
This project rose out of the dark days of the writers strike, when Joss Whedon decided to get out of the picket lines and make a statement that has continued to resound long after the picketers dispersed. Along with his brothers, he conceived and financed this project entirely on his own - breaking the studio model - for the sake of creativity, and to prove that EXCELLENT content can be produced on a minimalist budget (low 6-figures, he says, which is pretty impressive). This production was then released via internet, with demand to watch it so high that it crashed the website the night it was released.
I can't say enough about the creativity and originality that this project showcases. Not only the concept and content (again, singing super-villain with a video blog?! WIN!), but the whole model with which it was produced and distributed. In a few years, hindsight will be 20/20, and it will be clear that this really was a pioneer in the future of new media and its impact on how we watch produced content. I know some people have complained about the DVD-R format... but doesn't that just add to the charm?! It's a homemade project, folks!
Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion are all perfectly cast. The songs are all brilliantly written and performed. The story is superb... it's no wonder this has had such a successful reception! ("I mean successful in that I achieved my objective, less successful in that I introduced my arch-nemesis to the girl of my dreams...")
So, for the sake of supporting great art and creativity (and just watching fantastic original content!), please BUY this DVD, and BUY the soundtrack (CD or MP3)!! Having circumvented the studios, the money goes directly to the creators... encouraging and enabling them to do more work like this. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it FREE in its entirety on Hulu. (You will probably love it.)
EDIT: I have since watched "Commentary! The Musical"... that ALONE is worth the price of the DVD!! Special Features:

This product may be manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply. Conceived as an "online miniseries event" during the 2008 writers' strike,Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blogis a 42-minute musical romp that bears the distinctive stamp of Joss Whedon. Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) plays the title character, who video-blogs about his twin goals to join the Evil League of Evil and to woo the fair Penny (Felicia Day, of Whedon'sBuffy the Vampire Slayerand the Web seriesThe Guild), a woman he met at the local laundromat. Dr. Horrible is foiled on both fronts, however, by his arch-nemesis, the self-absorbed superhero Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion, Whedon'sFirefly).Dr. Horriblewas written by Whedon, his brothers Zack and Jed, and Jed's fiancee Maurissa Tancharoen, and the songs were written by Joss and Jed (who also produced, orchestrated, played, etc.) with some lyrics by Tancharoen. (Jed and Tancharoen have backup singing roles.) The offbeat, off-the-cuff humor is laugh-out-loud funny, and just like Dr. Horrible wants to take over the world, the songs will take over your head: they're engaging ("My Freeze Ray'), stirring ("My Eyes"), and sweet ("Penny's Song'). "So They Say" is particularly evocative of Jonathan Larson'sRent, but as with Joss Whedon's musical episode ofBuffy, "Once More with Feeling," the influences are diverse. It's hard to imagine a better cast. Harris, who's sung Sondheim on Broadway, is a great lead and clearly the best singer, Day is completely charming, and who better than Captain Tightpants to play the pompous superhero? One could argue about the ending, and the independent budget shows, butDr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blogis a complete hoot for people who enjoy musicals with quirky humor. Plan on watching it multiple times.--David Horiuchi On the DVD If you've already watched or downloadedDr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, a number of bonus features might entice you. There are two commentary tracks: Harris, the three Whedons, Tancharoen, Day, and Fillion recorded a spirited track discussing the movie, and there's also "Commentary! The Musical" in which they ignore the movie and sing about the writers' strike and each other (e.g., Fillion sings "I'm Better than Neil")--the songs aren't as good as theHorriblesongs, but it's good silly fun. A 20-minute making-of discusses the cast, the recording sessions, and how the movie became a phenomenon, and 10 videos (a half-hour total) were recorded by fans who want to join the Evil League of Evil. Not yet released customer 's review (A Turbulent but Amazing Final Chapter)
(A very entertaining series, and I liked the ending quite a bit)
(Someone up there likes us...)
(Horrible ending for a good show)
(Great Show Made Better By its Ending!) Overall I feel that Battlestar Galactica is one of the greatest television shows created so far, with a depth and scope unmatched by the vast majority of science-fiction and drama. I will echo at least one other reviewer by saying that the show in its entirety gets 5 stars from me!
These last episodes of this groundbreaking series were quite controversial. Many people wanted the answers to the series' many questions spread out throughout the final episodes...or perhaps even given upfront. However, Season 4.5 presents a single, large story arc that introduces new plots and new questions as often as answering or concluding old ones. At times it could be frustrating to have entire episodes dedicated to the emotional development of a handful of characters rather than a focus on the big questions...however, in these final episodes, the characters really do become most prominent, and in that sense these episodes are extremely satisfying.
Perhaps the most controversial element of this set is the finale. As a conclusion for the characters that have developed throughout the series, it is brilliant. Some might argue the truth of that in one or two cases but this finale seems to have been made to stir up debate. I did feel that the finale was weak on some crucial plot points, which others will certainly mention. It is my hope that the extended version of the finale (and other episodes) on the DVD (at least I think it's there) will plug some of the holes. And as for the very last scene...I don't know...many people say that it, and much of the finale, constitutes a cop-out and a departure from the risks that the BSG team have taken time and again in their storytelling...but I would argue that their approach was fairly out of the blue...and while I found it enjoyable I'm still not sure, months later, if I like it!
Aside from the finale and the episodes overall, 4.5 had, in my opinion, some of the best single scenes in the entire show, pieces that were just stunning on so many levels (the acting, the directing, the music, and more). And, speaking of music, 4.5 continues Bear McCreary's tradition of delivering incredible and unique music that just seems to get better with each season!
So overall I'd rate this at about a 4.5 for appearing to drop the ball slightly on some crucial plot points but overall continuing the brilliant storytelling that has characterized this excellent series from the beginning. (and since there is no 4.5 I'll just round up...) I didn't start watching Battlestar Galactica until the entire series was finished. My wife and I slammed through every episode in the course of a couple of weeks. She's not usually a fan of science fiction, and I tend not to like science fiction television, but I had too many people tell me it was worth a look so we took the plunge and it was a lot of fun.
In spite of a few hokey elements (ordinary telephones in space, Capricans eating sushi, etc.) the entire series kept me involved and excited. It has drama, intrigue, excitement, thought-provoking ideas. Everything you could want from science fiction. Of course, if you're reading this review you're probably already hooked and don't need to be told all that. Still, I think that some of the best moments of the series are in these final episodes. Most all of the questions about cylons and humans that really needed answering are answered, but in ways that put an intriguing spin on what we knew. Unlike a few gripers out there, I thought the ending was perfect, very much in keeping with the tone of the series as a whole but still novel and poignant. That, at least, seems to be the general tenor of the final season, especially the last double episode. This final season is a mixture of the excellent and the corny (details would amount to spoilers, so I'll say no more than that), and this especially is true of the double episode, which also features a rather nice twist. In addition, given that the Earth seekers all had European-type names assured that the search for Earth could have only ended in one of two ways, it was nice to get both.
I could have wished for a better ending, and a better resolution (and in some cases any resolution at all) of some of the outstanding questions, but overall the standard was high, and, I thought, always entertaining. I remember the old series, with Lorne Greene flouncing around portentously in a cloak. I always thought that there was a good story fighting to get out. Ron Moore got it out. I'll miss BSG. The series ending was nothing but lazy writing and bad storytelling...it was like the writers got to the last episode and said we dont know how to end this so lets just write some random stuff down. I loved every episode in this series, even the finale. To all those that complain that the writers took the easy way out at the end, I ask you to re-watch the show. When you do you see that they were setting it up to be this way the whole time. I did not think it was the easy way out, if anything, mixing realistic science fiction with mystical aspects was harder than to not add the mystical aspects. I enjoyed how everything came together.
Now, to anyone who has not seen these episodes or this series, WATCH IT. You won't regret it, it is, by far, the best tv show ever, and one of the better stories ever told. (Great movie!!!)
(FFVII: Advent Complete, the better Advent Children film)
(Advent Children Complete a better experience then the original cut)
(Understand that I am a Final Fantasy fan...) I have owned every American itteration of this movie and I love it. I'm a gigantic fan of FFVII and the movie pleases me most because it touches me with the characters and the feeling behind the story.
This movie has taken much flak, which I would like to say I fully understand if taken from the perspective of one without working knowledge of the videogame, and this version does so much to fix many of these issues. If you don't like videogames or have never played FFVII then I doubt you'll like this movie very much. I leant it to a friend who is a bigger movie buff than me(who loves some of the worst films of all-time) thinking he would at least appreciatte the action sequences and animation. He called it garbage, lol. I watched again after I leant it to him and the story really is disjointed at best if you know nothing of the game.
That said, this version should have been the initial release. It's criminal how many vital scenes were cut and/or shortened. The effect of these scenes being editing for the US audience actually makes a somewhat large impact on the potential to understand the story. Now that FF: Crisis Core is out and we all know the origins of FFVII the scenes with flashes of Zack are needed even more. This is now a trilogy of events and small tidbits that need to be fleshed out in a two hour period. Much of the additional content is also extended battle sections that(in one case with Rude and Reno) actually explains how the scene gets from one point to another where the original version left a magnificient gap.
The most important thing to realize with this, other than what I've said about not playing the game, is that it's a movie about a videogame guys. People "flying around" and "surviving what no one on earth could" doesn't matter. The laws of our world don't apply in the world of FFVII folks, sorry, so just let it go. I've seen so much worse things done in films that try to appear realistic and yet a movie about a game series gets slammed for doing things we couldn't in real life. That's why it's animated.
As far as the actual movie goes...it's just jaw-dropping if you look at it in a way such as I do. I've come to love it more and more with each viewing and it's starting to grow on me even more as I write this. It is simply beautiful. The animation is the best you will see outside of Disney Pixar and the japanese crew/director really understand how to use camerawork to improve the feel and aesthetics of the scenes. So many times I find myself just looking at the hair on the characters heads and being impressed. The score is also somethign for everyone. It is so well done and reminds me of something like the first Star Wars movies in that it has that quality that adds to the overall tone and direction of the scenes. A great example is the final bout with Sephiroth. There is a part *SPOILER ALERT*(I guess) where the music starts to change tempo, Cloud enters a stance and prepares for what he knows is going be one heck of an attack on the part of Sephiroth and the Shin-ra headquarters starts to come down upon him, literally. The music then rushes in and I just can't explain the feeling you get watching it if you invest yourself in the experience.
For anyone who has always wanted to watch this, but didn't want to buy it yet, this is the ultimate and finite version. For anyone who watched the original and disliked it due to the lack of coherence in the story I strongly urge you to reconsider and at least borrow/rent it and give it one more chance. I feel it's worth every penny and minute I spent waiting for it to come to the States. WOW!!! This was one great movie. To this day, I'm still a huge fan of the game and I'm also a huge fan of this movie when I first came out. Since I don't have a Hi-Def tv yet, I can't make much comment on how great the resolution is. What I can say is that I do think the the visuals are beautiful and on a regular tv, they look fantastic. Thanks to the reediting and addition of scenes, the movie is alot more easier to follow with depth given to characters such as Denzel. I recall hearing that when creating this movie, the creaters weren't fully happy with the results. This is probably what they were really looking for in the end. One of the things I like best about the Blu-Ray version is a feature that basically gives you a run down of the events in the games. Overall, it's a great improvement over the original and a must have to anyone who's a fan of the original game. I have always been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy VII was amongst my favorite of the games, so I was very excited to hear that Square was going to release the FFVII film. After watching the original movie, I thought it was awesome. But after watching it a few times and thinking it over about the plot and other elements of the film, I realized that I was being blinded by my previous love for the game that I was not able to see the many flaws of the original version of this film. Sure the graphics were superb and the fight scenes were amazing (even better than fight scenes of the Matrix trilogy in my opinion), but that wasn't enough to make a good movie. There was no plot development and the motives of the characters (mainly the villains) were not obvious enough or explained very well. Not only that, previous main characters with the exception of Tifa and Cloud did not play a large role or "any" role in the movie at all. Characters like Yuffie, Barret, Cid, etc. were just there (and literally appeared out of nowhere) in the movie for fan-service. I was rather disappointed with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
And then, the new release: FFVII: AC Complete. I was not excited to see this film, but I thought, "What the heck. I'll just add this movie to my collection." After watching the Complete version, I was thoroughly impressed. Even though it did not fix some of the major problems I had with the original, the story were explained much better. The new added scenes tied everything together, making concepts such as Geostigma more significant and relevent to the story. Geostigma did not seem very threatening in the original version, but the new scenes showed the importance and madness that came about after the Meteor as well as the threatening affects of the new illness, Geostigma, on the planet and its people. And then, Denzel's role and background were explanded on, making him a lot more relevent to the story. Not only that, the fight scenes even showed some blood! This makes the fights a bit more realistic and much cooler.
I watched this movie three times and never got tired of it. It was such an improvement to the original film that I could not stop wanting to see it again. I wished all "director's cut" of other films had this much improvement to the original.
Now what did I think of the English dubbed? I thought it was amazing. There were even some voices that I thought were superior to the original Japanese cast. (Just my opinion). I was surprised that the English dub company was able to gather the english cast together in order to dub the extra scenes. The voice acting was simply amazing. The only voice I was uncomfortable with was Mena Suvari's Aeris. Could have been a bit better in my opinion.
So overall, I give the original a 6/10 and the Blu-Ray "Complete" version a 9/10.
I recommend this movie to any Final Fantasy fan or even people who just like a lot of cool fights and action. Advent Children in a nutshell is the sequel CG movie to the 1997 video game Final Fantasy VII. Advent Children Complete is a director's cut that includes an extra 30 minutes of scenes that really help make story more understandable, enjoyable and a better viewing experience overall. This movie overall is light on story and more focused on action and if that is what you are looking for then you will probably enjoy this film. If your a FFVII fan then you probably already watched it or have it on DVD and depending on how big of a FFVII fan you are may want to get this director's cut of Advent Children.
Visually this CG film still looks great after a few years with the new scenes having noticeably better lighting then the original footage.
There are extras like an overview of the 1997 video game as well as the compilation of games surrounding the franchise. There are trailers as well as packed onto the disc. ...and I'm reviewing as such. I'm biased in favor of the source material, and given the nature of the movie, I assume that either you or someone you're shopping for already knows what Final Fantasy is. So this is really a "Why should you buy this over the original edition?" review.
My roommate owns the first release of Advent Children and I love it, but since we just got a PS3 in the house, I figured I'd pony up and go for the revised Complete edition.
Now, if you don't know or care about FFVII (though in that case, why are you here?), there are better movies for your money. But the amazing thing is that they reworked Advent Children enough in this edition that if you watch it anyway, you can probably follow along and enjoy yourself regardless. But if you do care, then even if you've seen or own Advent Children, this is worth it!
The colors are richer, much more vibrant (a friend's quote: "Okay, now I understand the fuss about HD."). It's a more beautiful movie. The action is easier to follow. Fast-moving scenes that were blurry before are now clear and detailed. Dark scenes have been saturated so that the action isn't lost in shadow.
But most importantly, and probably the reason you're looking at this: EXTRA FOOTAGE! And boy oh boy is there a lot of it. This movie is now 33% longer--that's an extra half hour, and it's not all dumped in one place. The first release of Advent Children was pretty much "Guys who look like Sephiroth show up. Cloud wusses for a while then gets over it. Lots of cool fight scenes ensue." Here, there is more dialogue, more plot, more Turks, more fighting, more color, more everything! The movie proves to contain an actual plot (though let's be realistic: it's not real sophisticated). Cloud's got some purpose to his actions. Vincent has an actual explanation (Rufus does too, but it's not like he's going to tell the truth--still, you get more of Rufus lying!).
And, yes, I said even more fighting. Lots more to the motorcycle chase (remember I said more Turks), and some bits were totally reworked--such as the ending battle, which was so much more brutal (and WAY easier to follow) that we were actually making shocked noises as we watched.
In short, if you love FFVII, TOTALLY WORTH IT. If you don't, then at least it's now a coherent, potentially enjoyable movie-going experience. If you buy this version for your FF-obsessed loved one, you may not completely regret sitting through it five times! :D Continuing the storyline based on the hit Playstation® gameFinal Fantasy VII, two years have passed since the ruins of Midgar stand as a testament to the sacrifices made in order to bring peace. However, the world will soon face a new menace. A mysterious illness is spreading fast. Old enemies are astir. And Cloud, who walked away from the life of a hero to live in solitude, must step forward yet again . . . The question facing any viewer of the Japanese CG featureFinal Fantasy VII: Advent Childrenis: do you have to know the games on which it’s based in order to understand the film? And the answer is: it certainly helps. But even complete novices (i.e., most parents) in theFinal Fantasyworld will find some entertainment in its wealth of fantasy-based action, and the animation never fails to astonish. Picking up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good (represented by brooding soldier Cloud) and evil (Cloud’s former general, Sephiroth),FFVIIopens in the devastated city of Midgard, whose youthful occupants suffer from a ghastly disease known as Geostigma. A trio of brothers arrives with what appears to be a cure for the plague, but their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose: to revive Sephiroth and bring about the end of the world. Cloud and his companions must once again rise to the occasion to stop the siblings and the revived Sephiroth from unleashing total destruction. Complex and self-referential to the point of occasional incomprehension,Final Fantasy VIIwill definitely be most appreciated by fans of the game series, but if others can look past the numbing dialogue and frenetic action (which is a bit too intense for very young children), the film offers a carefree and action-packed viewing experience. The two-disc set contains the original Japanese language version of the film as well as an English-dubbed edition (Rachel Leigh Cook and Christy Carlson Romano, among others, provide the vocal talent) and a version edited for the Venice Film Festival. A 30-minute featurette that recaps theFinal Fantasystory up toVII, as well as a making-of documentary, deleted scenes, and promotions for futureFinal Fantasy VIIgames and products round out the extras.--Paul Gaita Rerations < Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete [Blu-ray] >

(Hard to believe this wasn't a made for TV movie.)
(Loved It! Will Watch Again&Again)
(the wizard of oz monkeys did it for me........)
(Too Short) I had just finished reading inkheart the book and I thought I would love the movie ! I was very sadly mistaken this movie was not much like the book pivital points and scenes where missing ,mixed up,changed, or altered ! it was sooooo different that it was ridiculous i was so upset! don't waste your time I should have liked this movie. I'm a sci-fi and fantasy fan and can often enjoy even middle of the road quality movies in the genre. However, Inkheart was a huge let down for me and was actually painful to watch.
The special effects were top notch and Brendan Frasier has some cache in the big screen fantasy genre, however, aside from these two elements it would be impossible to believe that this film saw theatrical release.
The script, dialog, costumes, most of the acting, editing, physical sets, music and most of all directing had the distinctive feel of one of the poorer quality Sci-Fi channel Original movies. Made for TV all the way and a poor example of a made for TV fantasy pic to boot. The movie is a mess from beginning to end and it's the first movie in years where I've been so glad when it finally came to an end.
With so much wrong with the movie, it really comes back to the director. The dialog and action were horribly directed and the framing of almost every shot was off in one way or the other. I began to imagine as the movie went along how a shot should have been framed, at what angles the action should have been filmed and how the shots should have transitioned. No, I'm not a film student or aspiring or arm chair director with jaded expectations, just a lover of movies who can discern competent direction from the amateur.
The bare bones of an existing movie were there somewhere, but if any movie needed some major re-writes by some script doctor wunderkind, this was it.
And a final mention for the horrible musical score. Uninspired at best, but at worst, on multiple occasions, the music was so inappropriate for what was happening on screen that I had to wonder if a non-musically inclined editor just slapped pieces of this and that randomly onto the soundtrack after their music budget came up short.
Yes, this movie really is that bad. 1 1/2 stars, because I'm sure there are even worse movies out there some where. I really love this idea of Blu-Ray/DVD combo with Digital copy...it's essentially like getting (3) copies of the movie. I can play the Blu-Ray version on my stand alone Blu-Ray DVD player in Hi-Def and then I can play the standard DVD in my CineGo D-1000 projector on a big screen with Dolby DTS 5.1ch Surround. The digital copy is great for iPod or Windows Media.
Unlike some other reviewers, I have not read the books so I did not have any preconceived ideas. When I booted this movie up in the drive, I was a blank slate. All-in-all it was an enjoyable two hours and I will certainly watch this one again&again. I hope the film-makers found this one to be successful so they will make movies from the other books too. As per the usual Hollywood fashion, or Pinewood Studios in UK...they will try to squeeze as much $$$ until it's exhausted as evidenced by the Halloween movies, Rocky movies and Friday the 13th! If the movie money types can find cash to make all the other crappy sequels then surely Inkheart will find one or two more...?
Brendan Fraser has come a very long way since his caveman movie days and of course Helen Mirren is excellent. I've been a fan of Dame Helen since 1981 "Excalibur" before anybody knew her name!
The CGI in this film is acceptable&believable, not overdone. Good action scenes but possibly not appropriate for kids less than 3-4 years. Going against most reviewers on this one, i have to say this is a pretty good movie. What blew me away is a couple of wizard of Oz monkeys, how many years have passed by, wanted to see a filmmaker to be able to re-create these flying monkeys...and this movie has them...and so many other fantasy characters from book..... Bredan Frazer 's acting was much better than his last 2 films,, and the other characters in the movie are pretty good also. I also noted many many beautifull sceneries throughout the film. So bottom line, this movie has all the markings of making it a Keeper.
This movie felt as if it were way too short, it felt like there was no time to get to know or get attached to the people. And did anyone else think that Dustfinger would have made a much more interesting main character? Told from his point of view the movie might not have felt so scattered. The story was never really fleshed out and the characters weren't given time to develop. Great premise but badly handled, presumably by the editors. Maybe the first book should have been broken into two movies? All in all, yet another disappointment produced by the movie industry based on a really really good book. Why do I keep watching them? A young girl discovers her father has an amazing talent to bring characters out of their books and must try to stop a freed villain from destroying them all with the help of her father her aunt and a storybooks hero. Studio: New Line Home Video Release Date: 06/23/2009 Starring: Brendan Fraser Eliza Bennett Run time: 106 minutes Rating: Pg Director: Iain Softley "I prefer a story that has the good sense to stay on the page--where it belongs!" declares Elinor Loredan (Helen Mirren, in fine upper-crust form) inInkheart, a rollicking adventure that appeals to adults as well as tweens and teens. But if Elinor got what she wanted, viewers would not--for the delicious premise of the film (based on Cornelia Funke's best-selling novel is that book lover Mo Folchart (Brendan Fraser) has discovered a way to bring book characters to life. That means that adorable Toto fromThe Wizard of Ozis suddenly yapping under Mo's daughter Meggie's (Eliza Bennett) bed. But it also means that somewhere, a real person or thing has been sucked into the book world--battling flying monkeys and evildoers that suddenly are real threats. The film is crisply directed by Iain Softley, and Fraser and his costars (including Mirren, Paul Bettany, and Jim Broadbent) are worthy, watchable characters who appear to be having as much fun as the audience. And the film's pro-book message will please young book readers, and their parents, who know that a good adventure in one's imagination can never be rivaled by anything on any screen, of any size. --A.T. (Love the show short season or not.)
(Agree it's incomplete)
(too little, too much)
(Wonderful Series - Crappy marketing) Is anyone else sick of Sci Fi Channel dividing seasons on DVD or is it just me? We had to wait a full year to watch the second half of season 3 of Eureka. BSG was almost as bad.. whats next? Every show out there is divided for maximum money and viewer annoyance? I'm a big fan I have season 1 with 12 episodes and season 2 with 13 episodes. Season 3 has only 8 episodes. Yea at first I thought I was getting ripped off but after watching them all, there is nothing missing, these are all the ones that aired on TV. So you can catch up before the new ones start later this month (July 2009).
1. Bad To the Drone 2. What About Bob? 3. Best in Faux 4. I Do Over 5. Show Me The Money 6. Phased and Confused 7. Here Comes the Suns 8. From Fear to Eternity
Extras include deleted scenes after each episode. There is Audio commentary for the 1st and Pod Cast commentary for 1-5. Disc 2 includes an interview with the guy who does the music, he also did the music in BattleStar G. BSG fans should love "Bad To the Drone", listen carefully.
Oh I need to mention the packaging is totally green, that is eco-friendly. I like this show and have the first 2 seasons on DVD. I will also wait to purchase season 3 until it isn't cut. As much as we enjoy Eureka it is still only tv. If I am still intrested when the full season is available I may buy. No more teasers, keep your 1/2 season. I agree with most of the reviews already here. I love this series and can't wait to see more this summer - but selling half a season at this price is greedy and insulting. I just bought an entire 12 year TV series for $55.00! Now I'm supposed to pay $20.00 for 8 episodes? Do the math -totally not worth it!
I can only hope and pray that the powers that be on this come out with the complete season 3, soon after it airs this summer, at a reasonable price to satisfy the loyal fan base. I'll be waiting for it.

(Nothing New, But a Good Horror Flick)
(Could have been, but... Nope, it wasn't)
(big fan.......thought it was a great ride yknow....)
(Modern Take On A Classic Film) We, Sid the Elf, chose the "reboot" of the classic Friday the 13th with much excitement. It greatly exceded our expectations. Reboot is the perfect word for this film. It reworked a series of classics from 1980-1984 and targeted them for an audience that almost certainly wasn't around for this period. Basically, this film took the first 3 and part of 4 Fridays, summarized the basic plot points, changed a few settings, timeline and other elements(showing Jason getting the hockey mask)and introduced the great series to more than a few people for the first time.
Friday the 13th(2009) keeps pretty close to the important plot points of the early films in the series. And it boasts an impressive cast including: Robert Downey Jr. Jr., Wooderson's brother, and Dom Cruise Jr. The main difference is in the star of our show, Jason. This film erases every previous criticism of Jason. The killer in this film was smart, fast, lean, and seemingly impervious to anything less than a fatal injury. To Sid, Michael Myers is still el presidente of scariness, but this version of Jason is tough to make a case against.
There was a TON going on in this movie. The action never stopped. In fact, Sid thinks this film had perfect pace to it, especially for current times. In 1980, the pace of the original was fantastic, but this is a different day, 29 years later, in which attention spans are much shorter due to the internet, ipods, iphones, blackberries and everything else. So, maybe the story had to move much quicker for the target audience. It doesn't matter really because Sid loved this flick. The "Nudity" and "Sexual Content" warnings at the begining of the flick would have definitely roped us in back in the day and we would have stayed roped in until the end because, really, this is an excellent film. It even gets Drive-In Totals:
1 "Motorin'" apperance
1 finding of an unattended weed plant
1 joke about being baked
1 bow and arrow
6 breasts(2 of which are soooo primo)
1 spearing
1 screwdriver through the throat
1 ax throwing
1 recap of Jason's murders a la the end of Halloween and, of course, 1 gratuitous sex scene. Yet another remake of an iconic horror classic, this 2009 remake has the same production team and director behind the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2-Disc Ultimate Edition). However, this remake also has Sean S. Cunningham, director of the 1980-original as producer; a good sign. This remake fails to deliver anything we haven't seen before and some of it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but luckily there's just enough to almost redeem it.
The film opens on Friday the 13th of June, the same day the original film take's place. In this opening scene, a young Jason watches a scared teenager decapitate his mother.
Next, it's present day and a group of young kids wander the woods near Crystal Lake. Twenty-three minutes later, we meet a whole new set of college kids on the way to a cabin near Crystal Lake. Meanwhile, a young man named Clay Miller (Jared Padalecki) searches for his sister, who went missing six weeks earlier. The town bordering Crystal Lake consists of the same crazy redneck's that we saw in the TCM remake. All are unpleasant, paranoid, and tend to give main characters vague warnings about Jason, while doing nothing about it.
I don't see director Marcus Nispel being big on ideas, as I'm sure his influence went into creating the townsfolk. This film also shares a very similar visual style with TCM, as well as having the cheap scares that populated that film.
Friday the 13th isn't much different from most recent horror films. It has plenty of gratuitous nudity and violence. This doesn't bother me, but this movie gives "gratuitous" a whole meaning, believe me. It also has two character's that serve as comic relief (in this case, Aaron Yoo and Arlen Escarpeta), but I actually welcomed them.
There is some good in this remake, extending beyond creative death scenes. First of all, Jason looks more frightening than he ever has before. The makeup and costume design are top notch, but actor Derek Mears brings physical movement and posturing to the performance which really adds to the effect. Furthermore, the script makes Jason human rather than some supernatural being. This is good, but the writers stopped short at any attempt to explore the character's psyche. Finally, it has a genuinely likable protagonist in Padalecki.
There's almost no room for originality in the horror genre anymore. Sequels, remakes, and rip-offs are essentially what rules it now. Friday the 13th does not bring anything new to the table, but taken on it's own merit it's not that bad. It's much better than the dreadful Jason X (New Line Platinum Series) and the disappointing Freddy vs. Jason (New Line Platinum Series). While those who've had their fill of Jason at this point will want to steer clear of this movie, it's actually better than quite a bit of the horror films that are released today. If you don't mind being entertained by something you've seen before, Friday the 13th isn't the worst way to waste your time.
GRADE: B It was exciting to see Friday the 13th resurrected from the grave. Ridiculous plots to the point of putting Jason in space made it seem that this franchise was laid to rest for good so to see the film within its' own context and format was indeed thrilling. However, about halfway into the film, the movie loses steam and chugs out. The ending was damn near cheezy when you think the sister actually kills Jason. It started off making one believe that it was just as good as the original and was balls out, but then gave up and is not, in my opinion, up to par even with the 2nd or 3rd Friday the 13th films, let alone the first. big fan of this movie... thought it was really well done and beautifully shot ( iknow i know for a horror movie) but incredibly lit, beautifully staged, and pretty well acted...kinda. fantastic story line, liked the whole thing.... got kinda slow in the middle, but definetly picked up the pace. much better than Zombies remake of Halloween although this is similar....great music and effects. completely different movie than the others, but totally fun to catch the throwbacks of old friday movies..... i highly recomend... i was gonna wait for it to be cheaper, but glad i didnt... something told me to check this movie out now.....you should to. and if you get high everytime they do in the movie, its a great trip also! There are plenty of reviews (both negative and complementary) for this film so I won't bore you with the personal details of why I feel it was a great film. The one thing I will say is this movie absolutely kills Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween.
When compared to one another, Friday The 13th is a fun slash and kill type film that has a tremendous energy to it. Rob Zombie's Halloween (and all his other films as well) are just lame attempts at shock value. I'm glad the Friday The 13th franchise has gone in this direction, I look forward to seeing what Jason has in store for us in the future. SEARCHING FOR A MISSING GIRL, A GROUP OF YOUNG ADULTS STUMBLES ON THE CREAKY REMAINS OF ROTTING OLD CABINS IN THE EERIE WOODS OF LEGENDARY CRYSTAL LAKE, WHERE THEY ARE TERRORIZED BY THE INFAMOUS MACHETE-WIELDING JASON VOORHEES. If you thought a bigger budget and an A-list producer (Michael Bay) would go to Jason's head, well, forget it. The indestructible villain of so many bottom-of-the-barrel shockers isn't about to change his shtick, and the 2009Friday the 13thproves it. This, the umpteenth sequel (nope, it's not a remake of the origin story) to the original 1980 movie, gives us a clever prologue that manages to fit an entire Jason Voorhees killing spree in a brisk and bloody 20 minutes. Jumping ahead six weeks, the film introduces a carload of clueless teens headed for a weekend at a lakeside cabin, plus a lone motorcyclist (Jared Padalecki) in search of his missing sister (Amanda Righetti). When the "lakeside" happens to refer to Crystal Lake, of course, there can be only one outcome. Cue the hockey mask, and pass the machete. Bay and director Marcus Nispel, who collaborated on theTexas Chainsaw Massacreremake, are surprisingly indifferent to changing up the formula this time, although there's more care taken in building up a few characters, and for once the comic relief (mostly supplied by Aaron Yoo and Arlen Escarpeta) is pretty funny. You might even regret the slaughter of a couple of these young folk, which is an unusual feeling inFriday-watching. The film's Jason is quite the athletic fellow, and he's assembled an elaborate underground corpse-hiding lair in the vicinity of Crystal Lake. How he's been able to live down there for 30 years (if the film's own timeline is to be believed) and had enough unwitting campers pass by to keep himself entertained is anybody's guess. But if they keep coming, he'll keep slashing.--Robert HortonAlso on the disc The extended Killer Cut is 106 minutes compared to 97 for the theatrical cut, and it's hard to imagine choosing to watch the theatrical cut if you have a choice. In addition to some more of Amanda Righetti and of Jason, the extra nine minutes is mostly more gore in the gory scenes and more sex in the sexy scenes. If you're squeamish you might not want those things, but if you're that squeamish you probably don't want to watchFriday the 13thin the first place, right? The longer cut will give you more of the stuff that you probably watch this movie for. There's also an 11-minute featurette on the new movie and three deleted scenes (a different version of Jason getting his mask, the police response to the phone call, and a revised climax).--David Horiuchi Rerations < Friday the 13th (Extended Killer Cut) >

(Good addition to the series)
(Samsung BD-P1400 Owners (victims) Don't buy this!)
(Underworld: Rise of the Lycans)
(You knew the whole story from the 1st movie, a waste of film) I just got finished watching this movie, and I honestly I feel this movie is just as good as the first two Underworld movies. The acting was very good, all the original characters were in it (except for Beckinsale), the story was good, and the visuals were good. Don't skip it, see this. If you liked the other two movies than you should like this movie also! It gives more backstory on Lucius and Sonya, Vicktor's daughter. Good action/fight scenes between the vampires and the lycans overall. And even the story kind of made sense as well. As far as I could tell there were not many blatant contradictions in the plot of this movie. Don't buy this disc if you have a samsung BD-P1400 because it won't play! The producers of this disc ANNOYINGLY included aspects which require blu ray machine makers to create firm ware updates to play it. HOW ANNOYING! Almost as annoying is samsung. It is in NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo hurry to make the firmware update for the BD-P1400 people because Samsung cares very little for us. Maybe because the machine was not expensive and they want us to buy another one? Well, it wont be another Samsung THAT is for sure. I and others have been complaining to samsung to release a firmware update for months, and all we get is the runaround -- "It is over due, we are working on it, we dont know when it will be done...." I have watched all of the series. Great Stories and Great Action! This DVD keeps you on the edge of your seat. Would watch this over and over. Delivered in timely manner from Amazon, of course.
Yea the babe is hot, but really, this entire movie was told in 5 mikes in the 1st movie. Underworld: Rise of the Lycansdelves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement. This prequel to Len Wiseman’sUnderworldandUnderworld: Evolutionis distinctively different, especially minus the nimble vampire warrior star, Selene (Kate Beckinsale).Underworld: Rise of the Lycanstakes its cues from the vampire/werewolf battles that occur in the other films, but director Patrick Tatopoulos focuses here on the young werewolf Lucian's (Michael Sheen) rise to leadership.Rise of the Lycansis set mostly within the walls of vampire lord Viktor’s (Bill Nighy) castle, so the film’s silver, black, and blue palette reflects a world happening under moonlight. From the outset, when Viktor brings Lucian, the first werewolf, into the world, this villainous bloodsucker’s daughter, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), is smitten with Lucian’s hairy appearance and instinctual intelligence. As years pass, Lucian grows tired of watching his race suffer slavery and imprisonment, and recruits a human named Raze (Kevin Grevioux) to assist rebellion. This archetypal plot is not so riveting, and what carriesUnderworld: Rise of the Lycansare the battle scenes between vampires and werewolves, which are excitingly fast-paced and brutal. The whole film adopts a medieval battlefield aesthetic that carries an otherwise clichéd story about illicit love and freedom fighting. Some characters, like the traitor vampire Tannis (Steven Mackintosh), also intrigues throughout, as one guesses who he will ally with.Underworld: Rise of the Lycansmay not be the finest film in the werewolf and vampire archives independently, but its mixed monstrosity makes it unique and entertaining, especially on a big screen.--Trinie Dalton Stills fromUnderworld: Rise of the Lycans(click for larger image)
