(Quality Entertainment in a Worthy Box Set Collection)
『How often can it really be said that a television series actually atones for some of the big budget feature film releases of the same franchise? Calling it a rare occurrence is massively underplaying it and yet that's exactly what many viewers consider Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (especially against the very average Terminator 3: Ride of the Machines).

It would turn out that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2 would become last season of a solid science fiction television series that was well on its way to being a great one. Fans will delight in the bitter-sweetness that is an exceptional boxset containing some of the show's finest moments as a grave marker for the entire series. It's especially distressing on the staff commentary tracks where clearly the network's decision to cancel the series had not yet been revealed.

Unlike so many shows of late, this is one where the second season actually capitalized and realized much of the potential promised of in the first (which was pretty darn good itself). The cast expanded, with the addition of Brian Austin Green and Shirley Manson (yes the singer of grunge band Garbage). The scope of the prose enjoyed expansion as well, with new Terminators, timeline fluctuations (with visible consequence/ effect) and the intensity of the possibility of lead character death ever-present.

The acting, which was far above the norm for network television in the first series, actually manages to somehow improve for this season. It's apparent that Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker became far more comfortable with their roles as Sarah and John Connor respectively while Summer Glau is given the opportunity to contrast her role as a human rather than a machine along the way. Brain Austin Green was perfectly cast as Derek Reese (the brother of John Connor's father, Kyle) and Richard T Jones continues to dazzle with his gritty performance as James Ellison. Garret Dillahunt takes the Cromartie role to the next level with an opportunity to "reset" his character here and even Shirley Manson, surely the biggest question mark of the casting selection, absolutely astonishes with her portrayal of a T1000 (liquid metal Terminator).

Naturally the restrictions of television budgeting result in a program that's not quite as visually stunning as the recent films of the franchise, it is very possible that it looks as good as, if not better than some of the earlier movies. When T2 hit theaters, the whole "liquid metal" element was simply mind-blowing and Season 2 demonstrates the tactic ever-bit as well and as casually as if it were old hat.

Even so, the program ranks as among the best of the best of CG-heavy action on television. Just like with the films, massive explosions and gunfights abound with dark, moody environments and tones. While it would be easy for the show's creators to fall into a rhythm based upon what's worked thus far, major kudos go out for the decision to keep the characters' whole world an ever-changing affair (just as it should be given the back story of living off the grid, always on the run).

The Dolby Digital audio is mixed quite solidly as well, which is a treat considering how solid the visuals turned out. The sound follows the onscreen action with near feature film precision and though a bit front-loaded to compensate for the abundance of dialog, the use of 5.1 Surround is particularly noteworthy.

In addition to a full-color booklet with episode synopsis, the extras (spread across the full 6 discs) include:

· "The Continuing Chronicles: Terminator", an 8-part featurette gallery
· The Storyboard Process: Cameron Goes Bad
· Gag Reel
· Cameron vs. Rosie Fight Rehearsal
· Commentary on "Samson and Delilah"
· Commentary on "Allison From Palmdale"
· Commentary on "Adam Raised a Cain"
· Commentary on "Born to Run"
· Terminated Scenes on Select Episodes

Just like with the first set, perhaps my biggest complaint is the mental overload of the source material's heavy reliance upon time travel. If you really want to be a stickler, there are a few plot holes and mismatches that rear their ugly heads when laid out against the movie's timeline but in all honesty, and considering the overwhelming ambitions in sorting it all out, the television crew does an admirable job of keeping it straight.

About the biggest tragedy surrounding the whole affair is that the series does not end conclusively as again, it was cancelled before the production team could tie up all of the loose ends. As it stands (and fortunately) the 22nd (and final) episode does not end on a cliffhanger per se, it just boggles the mind to consider where the writers were going next. Considering that the program was nominated (and won) countless awards from the likes of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy&Horror Films, Emmy, People's Choice, Teen Choice, Visual Effects Society, and Young Artists Awards, the credentials speak far louder than any network's poor decision-making. It's nearly impossible to come away from the second season without concluding that the series was just starting to find its rhythm. It's sad that the show got the ax (especially considering how much junk was renewed) but I suppose the good news is that the Second Season box set is a beautiful addition to any library and a chance to own one of few truly impressive network television efforts of recent times.』

(One of the best shows on tv that cannot end with season 2)
『I've been a terminator fan since I was a kid. I have seen the movies several times so naturally when TSCC came out I was skeptical about the show. I thought it was going to be a cheasy, lame, knockoff from the movies. As a terminator fan I gave it a chance and WOW!! The show is so well written, actors actually act their part, and it follows the plot of the first two movies. DVD is the only way I can watch the show being stationed overseas, so after I finished the second season I was completely horrified and shocked that Fox didn't pick up the show for a third season. What the&%$#?! How can you end such a great show, with millions of fans, end on a cliffhanger? FOX BRING BACK THE SHOW!!! Whether you are a die hard fan or never even seen a Terminator movie, I strongly recommend this show.』

(Six Stars if available)
『Wonderful, exciting, great characters and the time-travel elements were easy to follow and I love that stuff.
Buy it to watch the 2 seasons in a marathon TV party.』

(Best show on TV)
『this was the best show on TV. smart, dramatic and creative. great acting as well.
it's a real shame it got cancelled- they didn't give it the opportunity to reach it's potential. what a great show.』

(Sarah Connor Chronicles season 2)
『The second season was ok. It wasn't as good as the first season, so i see why the show was cancelled. Having said that, though, towards the end of the season the plot was starting to progress and get really interesting, so it's a shame that there can be no closure for the millions of viewers that watched the show when it aired on television.

The characters are really good, the twists are predictable, but still worthy of the show, and the special effects are pretty good for t.v.

All in all, it's definitely worth watching if you are a fan of the show.』

『The time: today. The stakes: all our tomorrows. A nascent AI, assisted by droids, continues to edge toward world domination and the ruin of humankind. It accepts no limits. It fears no one. Except John Connor. The machines know John, now 16, is the future head of the resistance. They know he is growing in abilities. They must find and terminate him. But Sarah Connor is there, protecting and instructing her son as he becomes the man he’s destined to be. The hunt is on in a season of powerful revelations, breathless pursuits and bravura effects. A mysterious 3-dot symbol (do UFOs provide a clue?), a girlfriend for John (is Cameron jealous?), ZeiraCorp (can it master the renegade software called Turk?) – Season 2’s 6-disc action arsenal is locked, loaded, ready to amaze.』
『Things blow up. Someone you think is a human turns out to be a shape-shifting Terminator. There are confusing forays through time and discussions about what happened when in which version of the past and/or future. But really, the second season ofTerminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles--unfortunately the final season of the series--is about family, connections, and the things we do to protect the ones we love. Sarah Connor (Lena Headey) has an especially rough road, nearly dying and becoming obsessed with a three-dot symbol and detours through a world of UFO obsessives. John Connor (Thomas Dekker), a.k.a. the guy who will grow up to lead humanity's resistance to the hated machines, gets tough and gets a girlfriend. His uncle Derek (Brian Austin Green) gets a girl as well, and the women in their lives turn out to have a surprising connection. Cameron (Summer Glau), the Terminator sent to protect John, suffers some damage and reveals some surprisingly human secrets of her own as her relationship with John gets more emotional and complicated. Shirley Manson (lead singer of Garbage) joins the cast as Catherine Weaver, an icy executive with… well, suffice it to say that a familiar (and threatening) face shows up in her company. The special features are extensive and include featurettes on the writing, effects, stunts, music and more. This is a fitting sendoff for an ambitious show.--Stephanie Reid-Simons

(CWO shines in blu-ray)
『There are a plethora of reviews of the movie, but my review is mostly a comparison of the BD vs DVD version. I won't discuss its merits as movie. CWO has a lot of similarities in its treatment of anarchy and violence as Brad Pitt in Fight Club, yet Fight Club is less controversial?

I was too young to see CWO's theatrical release. But since, I've seen it on various tape versions, DVD and finally BD, as a fan of Kubrick's cinema style.

This movie is stellar in BD. I never really thought much of CWO but on BD, the framing of scenes and high resolution detail reveal subtleties that make visuals speak in strong visceral prose like no version before it [could also be remastering?], and the audio is beyond all prior CWO scores on record, tape, CD or its DVD. The subtitles are tack sharp on BD, making for a much more pleasant experience, helping viewers understand droog speak, or "nadsat", yes, yes?

For example, as McDowall's character Alex peruses records in a shop, one can make out clearly titles and liner notes on some covers. Alex's face show subtle changes as blood flows and ebbs into his skin, and shows how McDowall's acted [ or directed ] with frightening zest. Violent scenes of rape and assault appear more play acting or dance moves, as actors use exaggerated movements and victims almost are almost never bruised or bloodied, despite the pounding, compare this to similar themed and recent movies like Fight Club.

The clear crisp BD sound track makes it far easier to discern the nadsat words that at times were garbled in old analog transmission, broadcast TV, VHS, beta, and less on DVD. However, watching the movie with subtitles is less distracting on a large TV in the better font of BD.

The music was a revelation. I never cared for Wendy [credited as Walter prior to her sex change] Carlos's music, sometimes the synthesizer sound gave me headaches. But somehow, the BD version is so much smoother and richer in overtones compared to modern digital synthesizers, I actually enjoyed listening to her.

(typical Kubrick--channeling from the dark to the dark)
『This film has overt messages: we are what we are, and only a chemical means will change us, because there is no such thing as redemption. But chemical solutions are out of the question because we cannot trust the government or doctors not to abuse this power. And redemption is a moot point anyway, because the very idea of redemption is just a catch word to be used by preachers and politicians.

Why would I care about Alex's absolution anyway? The film did nothing to make me care about him or his soul... And yet Kubrick tries to get you to care about this monster. Alex winds up, after his "treatment", unable to defend himself against those he wronged. I was cheering this part of the film, and did not find it believable that people would be horrified by his comeuppance, especially at the hands of those he wronged.

To say there is a glorification of sex and violence is an understatement.

Because the thing that particularly bothers me about this film is the sped up scene of repeated consensual sex between the main character (Alex) and two young women. In the film, the scene is gratuitous porn that makes Alex out to be a stud... he keeps going and going and going. No wonder teenage boys love this movie. This glorification must be Kubrick's idea, not the writer of the book (Anthony Burgess), who is much more honest about his depravity. In the book on which this film is based, the scene involves not women, but two young girls who are drugged and then raped. Why didn't Kubrick stick to the original story? Raping children is much more in character with the violent sociopath that is Alex.

There is one good thing about this film: if I ever need a character reference, all I need do is ask "what do you think of 'A Clockwork Orange'?. The sociopaths will be revealed. Thank you, Kubrick.』

(Naughty, Naughty, Naughty! You Filthy Old Soomka!)
『They just don't make viddies for our glezzies like this anymore! Little Alex and his Droogs will get all the hairs on your plot standing up, real horrorshow! Yet what is true horrorshow is the way the Government reforms little Alex into the model citizen, unable to defend himself against all whom he previously doled out his ultra-violence upon.

Even the title of this movie carries a meaning. Do we really want to reform the incorrigible? And once reformed, will they still be an embarrassment to our own sensibilities and society? Like clockwork, they brainwash little Alex to be a model citizen, and as a result he becomes a Casper Milquetoast who's an embarrassment to the Government. As a result of that, they rebrainwash little Alex to dispel their "treatment" and re-convert him back into the young thug he was, but they now protect him with a cushy job merely to protect themselves against slander. Like that Steely Dan song: "You go back, Jack, do it again," Little Alex is finally free to indulge into his bizzare twisted fantasies, this time with official protection!

Every scene in Clockwork Orange has obvious and hidden meanings to it. Like an onion, Clockwork Orange makes you peel through it, layer by layer. This movie is sheer brillience, which will never go out of date.

Warning: After indulging in this movie, such lovely images will flood your glezzies each time you twang a disc of Beethoven!』

(too violent)
『This film is disturbing in it's violence and should be kept from children under 18.』

(Hasn't aged well...)
『I just saw this movie for the first time on a large screen with a good print. Unfortunately, I don't think it's especially good. I have no problem with either sex or violence, but the way these are used in this movie seems juvenile and tedious. The sensibility that pervades most of it seems more like that of a 14-year old boy than a mature, acclaimed director. Perhaps in 1971 the repetitive "hooliganism" episodes and schoolyard-level phallic props were seen by audiences as amusing and even daring but in 2009 they just look a bit pathetic. Probably it was a lot of fun to make the film, but most of the humor feels really dated and the relentless misogyny wears thin really quickly. 2001 and Dr. Strangelove are much better movies, I think.』
『A jolting tale of crime and punishment stars Malcolm McDowell as a young neo-punk who becomes the guinea pig for a state-sanctioned cure of his tendency toward ?the old ultraviolence.』
『Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess's famous novel is a masterpiece. Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums who spend their nights stealing cars, fighting rival gangs, breaking into people's homes, and raping women. While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary. We watch Alex transform from a free-roaming miscreant into a convict used in a government experiment that attempts to reform criminals through an unorthodox new medical treatment. The catch, of course, is that this therapy may be nothing better than a quick cure-all for a society plagued by rampant crime.A Clockwork Orangeworks on many levels--visual, social, political, and sexual--and is one of the few films that hold up under repeated viewings. Kubrick not only presents colorfully arresting images, he also stylizes the film by utilizing classical music (and Wendy Carlos's electronic classical work) to underscore the violent scenes, which even today are disturbing in their display of sheer nihilism. Ironically, many fans of the film have missed that point, sadly being entertained by its brutality rather than being repulsed by it.--Bryan Reesman

(Is it almost over?)
『If I hadn't paid money to rent this last year, I would have turned it off after 30 minutes. My nine year old picked this movie after seeing the previews advertised over and over and after 30 minutes he left to go watch t.v. in his room. The previews contained all the funny parts so it left the movie pretty dull. Definitely not a heartwarming, get in the Christmas spirit kind of movie. Ho, Ho, Ho, Hum!』

(Fred Claus DVD)
『I was very happy with the price and the condition of the DVD. The shipping was very fast as well. Over all it was a great purchase.』

(A hilarious holiday farce)
『I really, REALLY enjoyed this movie, which tells the story of Fred Claus (Vince Vaughn), the disenchanted older brother of St. Nicholas, a.k.a. Santa (Paul Giamatti). Fred is everything Santa is not: irresponsible, bitter, and kind of shady. However, when Santa agrees to give Fred $50,000 in exchange for helping out at the North Pole right before Christmas, Fred catches the next sleigh ride over, and hilarity ensues.

This movie is fantastically funny, mainly because of Vaughn. His character's complete disdain for all things Christmas is hilarious, from the exasperated facial expressions to the snarky one-liners. The supporting cast is wonderful as well, especially Kevin Spacey, a vindictive member of an overseeing committee that is threatening to shut Santa's operation down. Also, there's a fantastic scene where Fred attends a Siblings Anonymous meeting. I don't want to spoil it, but watch for a few cameos and get ready for a lot of laughs.

The one negative aspect of the film: Rachel Weisz, who in my opinion is one of the most annoying actresses alive. The good news in that she's not in the film very much, and even when she is on screen, Vaughn's performance is so good that he kept me laughing and made me forget how much I want to slap that chick.

Overall, "Fred Claus" is a smart holiday farce that is definitely worth watching. I'm going to make this movie an annual Christmas tradition at my house.』

(A loving message about Christmas)
『I had avoided watching this, thinking it would be a silly story much like the various Santa Claus movies, but after finally watching it I found it to be a delightful, comical and moving tribute to things that matter most. Sibling rivalry and how to love ourselves and not compare or be compared to our peers, how life is full of surprises and often we can rise above our limitations and challenge ourselves, and holding charity in our heart...that everyone has struggles and should be forgiven and accepted. Everyone has a little bit of naughty and nice in them, but everyone deserves a break, or in this case, a Christmas present. That sounds deep, and the message is, but toss in gorgeous settings, a wonderful back story, beautiful score, an excellent cast and lots of laughter between the happy tears that stream down your face, and you have a fabulous Christmas special, especially for adults who may have lost their own zest for the holiday season. Very enjoyable and highly recommended!』

(Great for kids!)
『My 5 year old loves this film! It's the first live action film he has ever been able to sit through without being bored, so I knew it was a must have for us! I love watching him imitate Fred when he is singing and dancing with the elves in the workshop!』
『FRED CLAUS (DVD MOVIE)』
『Vince Vaughn is enormously enjoyable as the titularFred Claus, disgruntled older brother of the better-known St. Nicholas himself, i.e., the North Pole’s very own Santa (Paul Giamatti). A garrulous hustler running from the emotional fallout of the ultimate sibling rivalry, poor Fred keeps trying to find happiness through one failed scheme after another, pushing away the people who care about him most. When brother Santa puts the squeeze on him to help out in the toy factory atop the world, Fred turns the place into one big, raucous party. Unfortunately, he’s unaware that Santa and Mrs. Claus (Miranda Richardson) are under tight scrutiny from an oversight committee (represented by a calculating Kevin Spacey) and could be shut down. The film, directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), gleams and twinkles the way a holiday movie should, and has plenty of fun material for youngsters, including a wacky chase scene in which Fred goes on the run from a half-dozen, angry Salvation Army Santas. ButFred Clausis also supposed to appeal to hip adults with a taste for ironic farce, and on that score the movie feels like a succession ofSaturday Night Liveskits more than an organic whole. Still, Vaughn holds everything together with a smart, insightful performance that looks deep into his character’s torment--with more than a few laughs.--Tom Keogh

(Nice Collectible)
『The doll which is actually quite lovely comes wearing jeans and and a gray jacket and with what looks to be dark sneakers. She probably looks a little more like Barbie than Bella but does look close enough that I don't think that any of the young fans will mind.

I didn't take it out of the box, as it's a gift for my niece who is a huge Twilight fan. And if you're planning on buying it as a collectible you won't want to take it out of the box anyway, as that diminishes it's value as a collectible.』

(Great novelty item but save your money if you're a doll collector)
『I liked the overall packaging of the Barbie Bella Twilight doll for the atheistic value but for those who might be doll collectors or are thinking of starting be aware there is nothing all that special about this doll besides having Twilight packaging and one label inside the jacket that says Summit.

Also please be aware that if you intend to remove Bella from the box you have a job ahead of you. It seems she is wrapped up and attached well to the interior cardboard and if you get this as a Christmas gift for a young Twilighter then it will probably take you a while to get her out of the thin plastic box and all the packaging ties, tape and rubber she is attached with. Also be careful when cutting her head from the plastic attaching her to the package so you don't cut her hair in the process.

This Bella doll has bendable knees but not bendable arms which is a step back in my opinion for Mattel in comparison to the release of the Wonder Woman Pink Label all bendable doll. Be warned: the bendable knees both won't bend right out of the packaging. Mattel, in a strange move, placed a black carboard wrap around the straight leg of Bella. To free the knee of it's cardboard prison you need to remove the tape and cardboard carefully after undressing Bella of her jeans. In my case the tape adhesive had attached itself not only to the cardboard but to my doll and I had to clean it off.

Bella's head moves and rotates easily. A black plastic band acts as a head band for Bella's dark brown hair and seems to slip and slide easily so you have to keep moving it back into place if you handle the doll out of the package.

(Tip: If for some reason this band breaks just visit the beauty section in a local Wal-mart, Target, Walgreens etc.. and pick up a pack of the plastic Goody hair binders in black to replace it. The band is very similar in type to those.)

There is no Summit identification on the doll body itself to tell you it's a Twilight Saga item. The stamp on the back of the Barbie Bella head says C 1991 Mattel Inc. The stamp on the middle of the dolls low back says C 1999 Mattel Indonesia then an additional number 2509.

Bella's head is a soft plastic with glittery pink lips, red brown eye brows, black painted eye lashes and a kind of grayed yellow brown eye color. The cheeks are faintly brushed in a pink tone on the warm cream colored skin tone.

The ears look as if they could take earrings but no jewelry is provided with this doll.

The hands are bent in such a way that when Bella's arms are posed upwards it almost looks like Bella is performing the 'Y' in the dance routine for the 'YMCA' song.

Her feet are high heal Barbie feet. To keep the plastic canvas look-a-like shoes on Bella's feet, Mattel used sticky dots like you would use for scrap booking, similar to ZOTS on each heal. When removed the shoes seem to fit Bella fine and do not seem to fall off when moved around so I am guessing this was to keep it from moving in shipping etc..

Bella has no underclothing. She only comes wearing a pair of jeans and a Bella 'like' jacket blue-grey in color with pockets on the front, a gold zipper that you will have to cut the thread for to make usable and a white ribbon sewn inside that says "TM AND C Summit Entertainment, LLC." with just a folded up flat collar. This white label is the first clue you have that the doll is even associated with Summit besides the packaging itself. If the doll was mixed into other barbies you'd have a hard time defining it as a Twilight associated item.

The jeans are a typical Barbie style jean with no label and two usable pockets in the front like real jeans. In the back the jeans are connected by a navy Velcro closure. The closure does not seem to pop open easily when bending or moving the dolls legs but you can hear the Velcro closure adjusting to the movements you make.

There is a certificate of authenticity included as a novelty I suspect which tells you about the doll and there is a typical Mattel plastic Barbie doll stand. There is nothing special about the stand itself except for the Twilight logo in a gray-blue color rub on over the black base. The bottom of the base says C 1997 Mattel Inc., Indonesia and has four spongy bits to stop the stand from sliding when placed on a desk or table. The resting place for the doll to sit, and I mean sit as to keep Bella on the stand you have to bend both of her knees. She cannot stand on this as the resting rod in clear plastic is not tall enough to accommodate the doll. (I wonder if Mattel was guessing only a small portion of the population would actually try to use this stand verses just keeping the doll in the package.)

Overall the doll is a Barbie doll not a Twilight doll. It's more of a Halloween costume for Barbie. No significant accessories or jewelry. A little bit disappointing but overall if you have a young Twilighter they will just enjoy it for the novelty it was made to be and love you for making their Christmas.』

『She's a vampire's girl. This Pink Label Barbie Doll presents Bella Swan, an 11 1/2-inch tall doll inspired by the blockbuster movie Twilight. Bella is all dressed up to meet her beau, come what may. Add her and the Edward Cullen Barbie Doll to your collection! Edward Cullen Doll sold separately. Stephenie Meyer's Twilight tells the tale of teenage romance between mortal Bella Swan and the intriguing and dazzlingly beautiful vampire, Edward Cullen. The #1 New York Times Best Seller and hugely popular movie has left its mark!』

("Don't Mess with the Spartans")
『These guys would have won the war if they'd had another dozen men.
Product arrived safely and in excellent condition.』

("Prepare For Glory!" ~ In Pursuit Of A Beautiful Death)
『Watching the amazing. hallucinatory 2007 film '300' is a visual treat not soon to be forgotten, it's like experiencing history through the eyes of Salvador Dali. To make the viewing experience even more impressive is the inclusion of a highly intelligent script with dialogue that resonates with the audiences intellect and emotions. Action and philosophy merge as one as deeds and word meld into a comprehensive worldview examining the paradigms of both the people of Sparta and those that would seek to enslave them. As the brave 300 battle against insurmountable odds a profound Spartan philosophy of war is lived out before your eyes and one comes to understand and embrace what they are doing and the reason behind their willingness to die for the greater good.

'300' is a one-of-a-kind film that I will never get tire of watching. It's an absolutely astonishing cinematic achievement!』

(Entertaining, but.........)
『This is an entertaining movie to a point. Yes, it's based on fact, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to say just how much. I was expecting to see a regular historical movie but was very disappointed in the fact that it had "supernatural" occurances and creatures. Also, I'm not deaf in the least, but I and my husband had a lot of trouble understanding some of the dialog. Would I recommend this movie...no.』

(Short and Sweet)
『I just bought this Blu-ray and I would have to say that it is all I could have wanted. I thought that the book was a bit much, but it was still a very nice package. I first saw 300 in an IMAX theatre, and was amazed. Shortly after I upgraded to a 1080p HDTV. The 300 BD has many ways to view the movie. I have now seen them all, and they are each a different and interesting experience. If you liked this movie, and you are looking for the best version, this is worth the price. ***warning*** the BD book doesnt fit most BD holders, so keep that in mind.』

『300: The Complete Experience (Blu-ray Book + Digital Copy and BD-Live) [Blu-ray]

this is the best』

『The epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and awe of its ferocious visual style faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at swordpoint. And moviemaking with a cutting edge.』
『LikeSin Citybefore it,300brings Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel vividly to life. Gerard Butler (Beowulf and Grendel, The Phantom of the Opera) radiates pure power and charisma as Leonidas, the Grecian king who leads300of his fellow Spartans (including David Wenham ofThe Lord of the Rings, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin) into a battle against the overwhelming force of Persian invaders. Their only hope is to neutralize the numerical advantage by confronting the Persians, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), at the narrow strait of Thermopylae. More engaging thanTroy, the tepid and somewhat similar epic of ancient Greece, 300 is also comparable toSin Cityin that the actors were shot on green screen, then added to digitally created backgrounds. The effort pays off in a strikingly stylized look and huge, sweeping battle scenes. However, it's not as to-the-letter faithful to Miller's source material as Sin City was. The plot is the same, and many of the book's images are represented just about perfectly. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered "bosses" if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and his fellow co-writers does break up the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it didn't involve the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the movie has more and less nudity--more female, less male--than the graphic novel.) Still, as a representation of Miller's work and as an ancient-themed action flick with a modern edge,300delivers.--David Horiuchi

(Excellent series with broad appeal)
『I would not have thought to give Avatar a chance if a friend had not raved at how good it is. She lent me all three seasons, and I bought them myself soon after. This is one of the rare shows intended for children that truly has broad appeal--I think a person of any age would enjoy it. It features fascinating and complex characters, a sweeping and epic plot, and stunning visuals. There is drama and humor and action in the right proportion. Just be prepared to be obsessed with this series--you won't want to stop watching.』

(Awesome Series for Kids and Adults)
『Great series - We will be buying 3 and 4. This is something that the kids enjoy along with their parents. Don't hesitate get and start enjoying it today. Lots of fun with good morals.』

(Avatar - Book 2)
『Amazon did a great job in sending me this product. Avatar is a great series and i recommend watching it! overall A+』

(Brilliant show, terrible quality)
『I love this show and I was hooked on the 1st season when it was broadcast on a local channel. I missed the 2nd season showing and decided to support the creators by getting the DVD set. Until the DVD was delivered, I decided to download some illegal copies and watch them (its not like I haven't payed for a copy to watch).

I really enjoyed watching the show - until I got the DVD box set: The video quality in the DVD set is simply HORRIBLE! the image is highly pixelated and looks like a bad computer screen. Both the broadcast quality and the TV rips I downloaded were much better quality. The encoding is so bad that it is painful to watch!

Goal 1: support to creators - Achieved!
Goal 2: enjoy high quality legal video - Failed!!』

『Avatar: The Complete Book 2 DVD Collection includes 20 action packed episodes from Book 2: Earth, plus an exclusive never-before-seen bonus disc! This 5 disc set centers around Avatar Aang and his continious quest to master the four elements. Together with Katara, Sokka, Momo and Appa, he journeys across the Earth Kingdom in search of an Earthbending mentor while staying one step ahead of Prince Zuko and fighting off the treachorous, Princess Azula, of the Fire Nation, who will stop at nothing to defeat the Avatar!』
Book 2: Earth, Vol. 1Avatar the Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth, Volume 1finds Aang, the Avatar and potential reconciler of a world divided into air, earth, water, and fire kingdoms, now a master Waterbender. That means he and companions Katara and Sokka can now leave the Northern Water Tribe and concentrate on mastering earth. New adventures and dangers await the heroic trio in the five episodes included on this DVD, which finds Aang experiencing nightmares about the power of the Avatar State. He also meets an earth kingdom general with plans for attacking the warrior tribes of the fire nation, gets trapped with possible love interest Katara in the Cave of Two Lovers, and gets pulled into a supernatural swamp by a tornado. As always, Avatar is above average as an engaging anime tale, with a wonderfully original storyline and striking artistry.--Tom Keogh

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 2The five chapters inAvatar the Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth, Volume 2continue the story of young avatar Aang's adventures deep within the Earth Kingdom. As usual, each episode is a seamless blend of grave drama and comic relief, but the stakes seem higher than ever with the addition of a new member to Aang's team. Joining Katara and Sokka is Toph, a blind but powerful earthbending girl trying to obscure her aristocratic origins by defeating large, scary men in the ring. Aang recognizes Toph from his vision of an earthbending teacher, whom he needs to help him master control over the earth element. Toph also adds a kind of sardonic, tart tone to Aang's journey, ultimately leaving her world to join the series’ trio of young heroes. "The Blind Bandit" finds Aang, Katara, and Sokka working hard at convincing Toph to help their mission. "Zuko Alone" carries on the tale of the firebending prince who now travels alone and anonymously, but comes close to befriending a boy in an Earth Kingdom town. (The episode is full of interesting flashbacks from Zuko’s youth.) "The Chase" also concerns Zuko’s past, but is primarily about Aang, Katara, and Sokka adjusting to Toph’s somewhat self-centered presence on the team at the same time Princess Azula is relentlessly hunting them all down in a kind of speeding tank. "Bitter Work" finds Toph having difficulties training Aang, while "The Library" is an exotic episode about a professor who leads the crew to a library containing information useful against the Fire Nation. When they get there, they find the place guarded by the owl-like Wan Shi Tong, who begins sinking the library in defense against the perceived invaders. --Tom Keogh

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 3Avatar the Last Airbender: Book 2 Earth, Volume 3covers chapters 11 through 15 in the ongoing saga of Aang, the 12-year-old reincarnation of an avatar destined to reunite the warring nations of fire, earth, water, and air. Still traveling with his friends Katara, Sokka, and newcomer Toph, Aang gets into some of the strangest and most compelling situations yet seen on his journey to master control over all four elements. The first story, "The Desert," finds Aang so upset over the abduction and criminal sale of his flying bison, Appa, that the powerful boy shows a streak of rage, demonstrating to himself that he could easily use his emerging skills to harm enemies if he wished. Still, Appa remains missing through this volume, leading the gang on a mission to survive a desert sojourn and survive during a perilous flight (with a young family in tow) over a pass through mountains and ocean in "The Serpent’s Pass." They also get involved in a bizarre fight (in "The Drill") against the Fire Nation army and its gigantic drill, which is aimed at the outer wall of Ba Sing Se, a city occupied by earth people. Once inside Ba Sing Se, however, things get really weird: smiling officials (in "City of Wallsand Secrets") outlaw any discussion of the war outside in order to keep the population placid and the economy rolling. Finally, "Tales of Ba Sing Se" is an original piece made up of individual vignettes focusing on each of the major characters. If there is anything surprising aboutBook 2 Earth, Volume 3, it’s the amount of romance (kissing, even!) in the air. These Avatar boys and girls are growing up.--Tom Keogh

Book 2: Earth, Vol. 4The long journey of young Avatar Aang and his friends Katara, Sokka, and Toph continues in this dramatic installment in theAvatar the Last Airbenderseries. Picking up from Volume 3, the first chapter on this disc, "Appa’s Lost Days," traces the hard times of Aang’s winged bison, Appa, after the latter is stolen in order to blackmail Aang into not going to the Earth King with information about a pending coup. The clever Aang manages to find Appa anyway and complete his crucial mission, though he learns, in "TheEarth King," that the sheltered monarch doesn’t buy the notion that his own counsel, the power-grasping Long Feng, could be behind such a conspiracy. Complicating matters is the arrival of Princess Azula to take control over forces loyal to Long Feng, while Zuko, the reformed Fire Nation prince now acting as a humble but happier servant to his wise, tea-drinking uncle, is powerless to stop her. (On the other hand, Zuko forms an unexpected bond with one of Aang’s allies.) Everything comes to a head in "The Crossroads of Destiny," in which Aang, suddenly confused by the sage advice of a guru who tells him he must free himself of a crucial emotional attachment, joins the others in an uphill effort to stop Azula from overtaking the Earth King. As engaging and frequently funny as every other volume in the Avatar series, Volume Four is a great ride through a climactic time in the long-running story.--Tom Keogh

(An instant classic)
『1997 gave us two of the best movies of the decade...Titanic, and Contact. From the opening shot to the end credits, Contact is a combination of great acting, (led by the always amazing Jodie Foster), great story and amazing directing by Robert Zemeckis. Entertaining and inspiring. A classic.』

(Love this movie)
『Contact is one of the most well-done sci-fi movies I have ever seen. Stays away from exaggerated technological explanations for things and focuses on how things would be if another Alien specie contacted us. More about Humanity.』

(great movie)
『I LOVE THIS MOVIE,I THINK ITS ONE OF THE BEST SI-FI MOVIES EVER MADE,I HAVE THE DVD,BUT WHEN IT CAME OUT ON BLU RAY I JUST HAD TO HAVE IT!!!!』

(Excellent Blu Ray transfer)
『Excellent high definition transfer- major upgrade over the standard definition DVD.

Recommended.

(Secret messages)
『An exceptional looking Blu-ray, "Contact" tells the story of Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster)and the impact that her discovery of a message from an alien race impacts society. In essence "Contact" acts as both a literal title and a pun--the film is about contact between science and faith, between a woman who loses her family at a young age trying to reconnect in some little way with what's she lost and her unending faith that she will discover there IS life out there.

Working with authors Carl Sagan and Anne Druyan director Robert Zemeckis has refashioned the tale adding the character of David Drumlin (Tom Skerrit)as an adversary who dogs Ellie every step of the way pushing her further and further away from her opportunity to embrace her discovery. Featuring a terrific supporting cast "Contact" focuses more on the humanity rather than the hardware but deals with a number of complex themes in the process. Rather than focusing on a team that goes to meet the Vegans Zemeckis and screenwriters James V. Hart&Michael Goldberg elect to make one person go throwing the finale into question--again, it comes down to a matter of faith and Ellie believes.

The Blu-ray has all of the original extras that were on the 1997 DVD. While the transfer looks extremely good with nice detail, color and clarity. It appears to be digitally scrubbed though with a bit too much digital noise reduction used reducing the level of the detail in the process. Nevertheless, it does blow away the original DVD by leaps and bounds particularly the opening sequence as we look at the Earth following the radio waves as they leave our planet moving further and further away from our solar system.

"Contact" is a very good if flawed film. The faith vs. science themes that were so prevelent in Sagan's book are still here but presented in a bit of a muddled fashion. There's zero chemistry on screen between Foster and McConaughey. David Morse brings a strong, quiet presence to his role as Ellie's father. The ending although it is touching and does provide a sense of closure (and while it does make sense in many respects) may feel like a cheat to some. I thought it worked quite well within the context of the film. Some of the story elements like the subplot involving a terrorist attack on the "Machine" and NASA are deftly handled--they could have been blown up (pardon the pun)into soap opera spectacle but Zemeckis plays it low-key. The other flaw is the time compression from discovery to execution; while it was essential to keeping the film moving forward it also makes everything seem as it it happens rather quickly.

Over all this is a exceptionally good looking Blu-ray and the fact that Warner has ported over all the DVD extras (something that many studios have chosen not to do)is a big plus as well. Highly recommended.』

『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 10/06/2009 Run time: 153 minutes Rating: Pg』
『The opening and closing moments of Robert (Forrest Gump) Zemeckis'sContactastonish viewers with the sort of breathtaking conceptual imagery one hardly ever sees in movies these days--each is an expression of the heroine's lifelong quest (both spiritual and scientific) to explore the meaning of human existence through contact with extraterrestrial life. The movie begins by soaring far out into space, then returns dizzyingly to earth until all the stars in the heavens condense into the sparkle in one little girl's eye. It ends with that same girl as an adult (Jodie Foster)--her search having taken her to places beyond her imagination--turning her gaze inward and seeing the universe in a handful of sand.Contacttraces the journey between those two visual epiphanies. Based on Carl Sagan's novel,Contactis exceptionally thoughtful and provocative for a big-budget Hollywood science fiction picture, with elements that recall everything from2001toThe Right Stuff. Foster's solid performance (and some really incredible alien hardware) keep viewers interested, even when the story skips and meanders, or when the halo around the golden locks of rising-star-of-a-different-kind Matthew McConaughey (as the pure-Hollywood-hokum love interest) reaches Milky Way-level wattage. Ambitious, ambiguous, pretentious, unpredictable--Contactis all of these things and more. Much of it remains open to speculation and interpretation, but whatever conclusions one eventually draws,Contactdeserves recognition as a rare piece of big-budget studio filmmaking on a personal scale.--Jim Emerson

(great DVD)
『My little girl loves this movie and she isn't even two yet! She asks to watch it every night and wants to lay day and cuddle together. The DVD itself was in perfect condition, and the delivery was prompt.』

(Great DVD's)
『I purchased 2 copies of this movie one for each of my 2 granddaughters. These are great fun loving enterainment』

(The Book is Better)
『I hardly know what to say about this movie. As a Disney musical, I suppose it hits the mark. Fun, catchy theme song; dance moves reminiscent of "Mary Poppins". However, having first listened to the audiobook read by Andrew Sachs, we were disappointed. The movie only vaguely resembles the actual story-line of the book, and I'm not sure why they did that. The original story is vastly superior, and the audiobook version is superb. Pop it in while you drive around; both you and your elementary-age children will enjoy it.
Watch the movie for fun, but don't ignore the book because you've seen the movie. It's apples and oranges.』

(Oldy but a Goody)
『I loved this movie as a child myself&still do so I thought I'd give it a shot with my 3 year old..( that acts like she's 6 ) LOL...Anyway this is a great story&adventure for the whole family...Highly recomended... :0)』

(Great movie, dissappointing DVD)
『I loved this movie since the first time I saw it as a child. It fits right in with the Disney classics Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
The bad is the Full screen DVD. I just do not understand why this movie can not be released in widescreen. Pan and scan drives me crazy. How much can it cost to produce a widescreen version of this movie?』

『Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls start your engines. You're about to take an incredible ride with one of the most wonderful family films of all time! Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has never looked or sounded better. Dick Van Dyke stars as eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, who creates an extraordinary car called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It not only drives but also flies and floats as it leads him, his two children and his beautiful lady friend, Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), into a magical world of pirates, castles and endless adventure.』
『This remastered, pan-and-scan 30th-anniversary edition of that kiddie-car caper is flawed but solid family fare. It retains a quaint charm while some of the songs--including the title tune--are quite hummable. A huge plus is Dick Van Dyke, who is extremely appealing as an eccentric inventor around the turn of the century. With nimble fingers and a unique way of looking at the world, he invents for his children a magic car that floats and flies. Or does he? The special effects are tame by today's standards, and the film is about 20 minutes too long--but its enthusiasm charms. The script was cowritten by Roald Dahl and based on the novel by Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond adventures.--Rochelle O'Gorman

(Great series)
『My husband got me started on this series, about season 2 I think, very disappointed that it was cancelled. There is a new Stargate series that as of episode 4 I'm not that keen on, but I'll give it some time. Anyways, a great series, was easy to pick up on the storyline. Lots of action, drama and thrills, get seasons 1-5, a great watch!』

(Going through the Stargate)
『While I loved this product, it took nearly three weeks to get to me, which I thought was a little long. But i am so glad I got it.』

(The StarGate is out there!)
『After following the StarGate SG-1 seasons (all 10 of them, and the extra movies), I just had to dug into the spin-off series StarGate Atlantis. This is the third season, and a good question is: "Has the StarGate Atlantis series picked up the pace, drama and spectacularities just as theSG-1 series did?" Oh, yes - it sure has. There are some recurring themes, but also plenty of episodes with big surprises. But when it comes down to it - this is StarGate! And from my perspective, everything StarGate is great!』

(Stargate Atlantis S3)
『As a UK customer the service was excellent (less than 7 days from order to receipt) Condition of goods was great. Most impressed!』

(Great Quality DVD series for a great price!!)
『The DVDs and case are in great condition and I have not been able to beet the price locally or on the web.』
『For the first time ever, fans can catch up on season 3 before season 4 begins on Sci Fi!』
『WithStargate SG-1now permanently off the data screen (except for a TV movie or two) after ten productive seasons, it appears that the fate of the universe is now the responsibility of theStargate Atlantiscrew. Based on the latter's third season, whose 20 episodes (plus a wealth of bonus features) are made available here on five discs, we're in good hands.
Three years into it,Atlantishas retained numerous familiar elements while continuing to evolve steadily. The core cast is intact, with the cocky wiseacre-hero Lt. Col. John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) and the egotistical, neurotic genius Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett) still the most entertaining of the bunch; as the series explores the characters' personal lives and backstories, we even meet (in "McKay and Mrs. Miller") the latter's sister, who's every bit the wiz that he is. On the other hand, the roles of team leader Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) and members Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) and Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa) are neither especially well-written nor well-played. The return of Richard Dean Anderson (and his sense of humor) as General Jack O'Neill, theSG-1mainstay during most of its run, for a few cameos is most welcome, as is the presence of the Wraith, the series' principal villains (SG-1fans will also recognize the "sentient machines" known as the Replicators from that series). With their flowing white locks, cat-like eyes, pale, almost translucent skin, ultra-fine black leather dusters, and, in one case, shades that would make a Hollywood hipster envious, the Wraith remain the coolest bad guys on the sci-fi scene. We already knew that they feed on humans, but this season brings some startling new revelations, particularly in "Common Ground," an excellent episode that finds Sheppard and a Wraith (Christopher Heyerdahl) forming an unlikely alliance against a mutual enemy; we also witness the return of the Wraith known as Michael (Connor Trinneer), who was the subject of the Atlantis team's ongoing "retro-virus" experiment (designed to make Wraiths human) in Season Two and plays a significant recurring role in Season Three. Other developments are apparent as well, but most dramatic of all is the death of one of the team's key members.
Stargate Atlantisisn't the most original TV show ever created; in fact, elements ofThe Running Man,Alien,The Abyss,Enemy Mine, and other sci-fi works are sometimes so obvious that the characters themselves mention them in dialogue. But as always, the action sequences, special effects, models, and other technical elements are first-rate, as are the bonus features, which include episode commentaries, featurettes, and photo galleries.--Sam Graham

(Angel the complete series)
『This is an amazing spin off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I definitely recommend watching this as well!』

(Best set for holidays)
『I love this boxed set. It is everything I expected. This is the perfect gift for the holidays. I received it quickly after ordering. I'm very happy with it.』

(The Lonely Losers No Luck Club)
『Only the desperate can watch five seasons of this dreadful show. The sensation of warm brains drooling out my ears was wonderful.
A better title for Angel would be "The Lonely Losers No Luck Club".
The tired theme is "LA is Hell and lawyers are demons".
Two good episodes out of five seasons from my estimate.』

(Movie Collectors Set)
『These movies I bought were in excellant shape in a beautiful box set and they were gift wrapped very nice.
The time it took to get here was so fast I could not believe their promptness. A Great site to order from forsure and I will continue to order from Amazon.ca.』

(Collector Sets are the pits)
『I love the series, my only problem is with the collector sets. It doesn't seem to matter what show it is the collector sets always have bad disk's in them. The quality control is the pits. It might just be that there are just too many disk's in a single package. I have purchased many complete season sets and not had any trouble, but these collector sets are nothing but trouble. You can't get one without bad disk's in it. Plus it takes a long time to watch every one to be sure each disk is good.』
