At best, the storyline reads like amateur fan fiction but to be fair, it has potential to keep small children occupied for a while. The action sequences were reasonably entertaining but unfortunately, I was too distracted by the painful dialogue to thoroughly enjoy them. If a movie that bears the iconic name of "Star Wars" has a need for comic relief, it could not come from a much more ridiculous source than assembly-line droids whose programming should not include personality of any sort, much less slow-witted ineptitude. But the annoyance of the droids pales in comparison to that of the character of the young Padawan "Ahsoka Tano". From the word 'go', this alien brat exhibits an attitude that should have got her drop-kicked out of Jedi College a long time ago (in a galaxy far away). Her consistent backtalk and unwillingness to follow orders is difficult to picture being tolerated in any military organization but somehow she is given a free pass by the Jedi masters, and recalcitrant pre-teen girls will probably also find her quite inspiring. If 'The Clone wars' were an AT-AT walker, Ahsoko would be the snowspeeder tow-cable that brought it to its knees and crashed it.
For any true and long-term fan of the Star Wars franchise, this movie is worth its weight in Rancor droppings. For the writers of this animated insult, perhaps Vader could suspend Boba Fetts "no disintegrations" restriction... 』

He is always asking me to let him watch the Clone Wars on TV but it is on past his bedtime. This helps satisfy his need to see the TV series. He loves it and I think its very imaginative.』

CLONE WARS boasts exciting space dogfights and intense light saber duels. But these things do not make up for where it fails miserably. Nowhere in this movie do we see the echoes of the great stories hinted in A NEW HOPE. Nowhere do we see a camaraderie develop between Bail Organa ("years ago you served my father") and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Since 20th Century Fox did not release this film (can't say I blame them), the movie opens with the Warner Brothers logo and without the signature Alfred Newman prelude. There is no written prologue that retreats into the distance of space. The animation is rather wooden. This would have been acceptable had the film been made by a studio with a more limited budget. But it was made by George Lucas who has money coming out of his ears! Financially, there is no reason why THE POLAR EXPRESS should look better than CLONE WARS. But even VEGGIE TALES looks better than CLONE WARS.
The plot of CLONE WARS is that the Jedi are summoned to rescue Jabba the Hutt's kidnapped son. That is the plot of the movie called CLONE WARS. Can someone please enlighten me as to what that has to do with the Clone Wars?
Jabba junior who inherits the nickname,"Stinky" is much more annoying than ewoks and Jar Jar Binks put together. There is even an utterly failed attempt at humor by pointing out that Junior the Hutt made a poopie. (No, I am not making that up.) Which, incidentally, is how we arrive at his cute nickname. Jabba the Hutt's uncle plays a role in the film as well. Ziro the Hutt does nothing to add to the entertainment value of this heap except to make the viewer wonder whether or not he was based on Truman Capote, for there is an uncanny resemblance.
The music in CLONE WARS almost never sounds like any of the scores composed by John Williams. Sometimes it sounded like a rock band and sometimes like classical Chinese folk music.
I'm sick and tired of people defending ewoks and Jar Jar Binks by saying it's in there to appeal to the kids. Where have you been the last 30 years? It's STAR WARS! The name alone has kid-appeal and always has. It has more kid appeal than Fess Parker's Davy Crockett, for crying out loud. And it had it long before an ewok ever scratched his ear or a Gungan ever ruined a movie. You might as well complain about Sesame Street not having enough kid appeal.

It's the story of how Sebastian begins reading a very special book and page by page becomes a part of it. Without him the hero of the story cannot triumph in his quest. The characters are all magical, as are the sets. My favorite is Falcor, the luck dragon. This movie's plot is an insult to anyone over the age of 3 and the characters often act in ways that are completely contradictory to what was previously established. This is primarily true of Wolverine (sorry Hugh) but also of Gambit. I couldn't wait for this thing to end, much like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Single-Disc Edition), another attack on thinking people everywhere. We FINALLY get Trek VI in the proper 2.35:1 ratio. AND the original cut, as the inserted bits only turn a benign President into a double-dealing creep unworthy of the Federation. (not to mention the 2-disc "Director's Cut" release, which changes even more around, including the mind meld scene to the point the emotive effect is lost.)
We FINALLY get "The Motion Picture" in original form, warts and all. The special DVD release prior to this one has CGI f/x that are rather good, but replacing an understandably repetitive computer voice with this cheap voice and klaxon -- no way was the director involved with that change; it's horrible. Ditto for hacking up a few scenes that didn't need to be truncated...
"Khan" definitely shows a proper film cleanup job, even on standard-def.
The other movies look and sound great, especially for being standard-def releases! These cuts came were minted from the same masters used for the Blu-ray sets, so we won't notice any negative differences, but Blu-ray users will. Go read their reviews: Blu-ray users are right in being disappointed in that only "Khan" was given the full restoration and the others given half-baked, upconverted "remastering" treatment. (Tangential question: Did Generation-Y do the work for all of these new releases? They're all said to be lazy... Assuming the work was done by Americans, in this global day and age AND where "'good enough' is good enough" is just good enough, it can be done by anybody anywhere and if people don't care, a poor quality product is the result. But that's the gripe for the blu-ray set and not relevant here. Since the resolution isn't being upconverted, the problems there don't apply. :-D )
All in all, this is a fine release for people not desiring to go blu-ray or at least until blu-ray players are affordable and when Paramount can put out all 6 movies in a format that natively makes the best use OF blu-ray, which for now is only "Khan" that will. Even if you've bought all the other sets, these do look and sound better, and were what were shown in the movie theaters to begin with. Theatrical purists will indeed love this set. 』
(Great set is all I can say!) 『The Motion Picture had been out of print for quite a while, and I was wondering how and why Paramount would put that out of print, of course they released the Blu-Ray version of this set earlier, which I was kind of upset about because I don't have Blu-Ray, and I wanted these movies really bad on DVD, so a few months ago I bought Star Trek 'The Motion Picture' trilogy, but of course it only had 'The Wrath of Khan' 'The Search for Spock' 'The Voyage Home' and while I knew what movies it had with it, I was disappointed kind of, 'cause I wanted 'The Motion Picture' with it.
Well, finally a few months later, they released the standard definition version, I was very pleased when I had found out they did, it was on the top of my list to get (along with 'The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection, which I bought a few weeks ago), and they did a great job with that one, so I knew this one would be just as good...and it is.
You get all 6 motion pictures of course, as well as a bonus disc 'Captains Summit', which I have not watched yet, I will when I watch all the movies, of which 2 I hadn't seen before 'The Final Frontier' and 'The Undiscovered Country', and I watched them both last night, and I was very happy with them, I find 'The Final Frontier' to be very underrated, and 'The Undiscovered Country' was the perfect way to say goodbye (although in 'Generations' from 'The Next Generation' we saw Captain Kirk, Chekov, and Scotty one final time).
As for 'The Motion Picture' I find this one to be criminally underrated, I think it is a great start for the movie series, I guess I saw more than most other people saw in it, and even after seeing it countless times in my teens, it just never gets old, great underrated movie.
As for the trilogy part 'The Wrath of Khan' 'The Search for Spock' 'The Voyage Home', these were the most successful movies in the series, with good reason, it's just an awesome three part adventure, epic, full of action, great acting of course, and great stories, everything a Star Trek fan could ask for.
I can never get enough of Star Trek...well, aside from 'Deep Space Nine' and 'Enterprise'.
To me, Star Trek is and will always be 'The Original Series' 'The Next Generation' and 'Voyager'.
Bottom line, fans, buy this set, it is well worth the price paid for it, it pays for itself, and if you buy this set (and like it), what Star Trek fan wouldn't? I suggest buying 'The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection' as well, as it's just as nice as this.

I thought this might help, as there is very little info from Amazon on this product. This review is mostly for the content of this STANDARD DEFINITION 7 Disc ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE COLLECTION Box Set released Sept. 22, 2009.
Obviously, these are the 6 Original Paramount films with the Original Series cast.
STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE THE WRATH OF KHAN THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK THE VOYAGE HOME THE FINAL FRONTIER and THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY
Every film in this set is the Original Widescreen Theatrical Version. The 7th Bonus Disc is THE CAPTAINS' SUMMIT. A 70 minute round table discussion with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and host Whoopi Goldberg.
Each Movie Disc includes commentaries, a few short Special Features, and NO theatrical trailers. The Insert Card states: 2 1/2 hours of Special Features. My guess is that they're leftovers from the previous 2 Disc Editions for each film, none of which I've ever owned. So, don't take my word for it. (Anyone that thinks 5 Stars may be too generous for this Edition, I only really care about the films. And, the way they look and sound. SFs are of secondary concern to me.)
Sound for all the films is 5.1 Dolby Digital EX and maintains a good presence. There is NO 2.1 or DTS setting. As usual with big studio blockbusters, music is too far forward in the mix for my taste, and dialogue is at a lower volume. (For optimal home theater playback, your center channel should always be set at a hotter level than your front speakers. Here's a good starting point for louder films: The individual speaker volume levels for my surround receiver go to 12. Please, no Spinal Tap jokes. I usually leave my L/R front speakers at level 4, and make my center channel all-the-way hot at 12. I always leave my rear effects speakers at 8 or 10. My Velodyne subwoofer is usually set at -7 because I have neighbors, and the darn thing really pumps those ultra low earthquake frequencies.)
The transfers look EXCELLENT. I've perused them all, but I have only viewed the FIRST film in its entirety. Very nice. Good color timing. (NOSTALGIA ALERT: I really appreciate the primitive Special Effects, models, matte painting, and miniature photography of this era. With the advent of CG, these kinds of photographic effects are a rarity these days. The wormhole sequence is still awesome, and the VGER probe scene still looks really cool. I can't wait to view the rest of the films. Especially THE WRATH OF KHAN!)
This Box Set is a very handsome Edition. Each Disc comes in an ultra thin slipcase with a different cast member in silver on the cover of each case, with Shatner's photo on the Bonus Disc. (I would have preferred the Original movie poster art for each film, but the design is unique for this Edition.)
The Box has a 3D Trek logo on the front, is only 2" deep, and doesn't take up much shelf space. The entire Box is covered with a transparent slipcover that is open on the top and bottom. (CAREFUL: The insert card is glued to the outside and the bottom of the Box. If it comes off, the entire Box can fall thru the bottom of the outer slipcover and crash onto the floor. Remove it, put it under the slipcover, or throw it away.)
A very affordable way to own the 6 Original films.

(Loyal Fan; Slight Letdown) 『I was disappointed by season 2 as a loyal Heroes fan, however, there were redeeming aspects. The writers' strike definitely effected the show and the script fell short throughout the season because of that. The magic of 1st season was that the show seemed as though it had been on the air for three-four years at the time, it was smooth and well-written, with brilliant acting performances.
Season two not only fell short in script, the performances of new characters as well as the awkward stage of one of 1st season's veteran's provided for a disconnect from the season.
Monica Dawson's performance by Dana Davis, was the weakest by far, and I hope not to see her again on the show.
Micah's awkward stage in his early teen years has made him even more annoying, rude as it may be to say so, I do not connect with his character at all. His cheesy camera moments and forced smiles are not cute now that he's in his early teens. His acting is weak and Disney like.
West Rosen by Nicholas D'Agosto is a great potential character, played by an actor who had "the look" I expected he would have, but the acting talent of a 12 year old in his first year in the business. I have seen D'Agosto on the Office and appreciated him for his slight comedic presence on the show, however, his performance in Heroes only brought the show's stumbles to a fall, making another set of characters that I could hardly watch.
That being said, they made up for those weak performances with adding equally stronger ones.
The character of Bob Bishop and his daughter Elle were great performances, very fitting to the drama and mystery of Heroes. The character of Adam Monroe was interesting, a little out there - but I suppose I was already wondering what cellular regeneration would mean for the future and the death of cells from natural causes. I really appreciated his character for the show and his performance did that character justice.
Caitlin was by far my favorite performance on the new season. Katie Carr is a British actress whose Irish accent I thought to be authentic to parts of Ireland, and whose acting performance I thought to be flawless.
The performances of all of the "elders" if you will - the other generation of Heroes, were all wonderful and really tied the show together in a way that you could call almost fitting.

Imagine how overbearing and preachy its message would be, or how sickly cute and perfect they would make San, or how the owner of the ironworks would be a ruthless, ugly, rich old guy. In contrast, `Mononoke' is a thought-provoking film that refuses to settle for easy answers, and contains very complex and well-drawn characters.
One thing to note is that this is quite adult-oriented compared to some Miyazaki films such as `Kiki' or `Totoro'. Although there's nothing gratuitous, there is a surprising amount of violence, and some mature themes. That apart, this film explores typical Miyazaki themes; including environmentalism, alternate history, Japanese mythology, and feminism. And like all Miyazaki films, `Mononoke' is superbly drawn and animated, incorporating some fairly subtle CG effects for the first time. In the original Japanese, the voice acting is universally excellent. (Although people have problems with some performances in the English dub, I can't comment as I always watch anime in its original language).
For the characterisation, the movie aggressively turns history on its head by having strong, capable women in powerful positions (even if Ashitaka is cast as the traditional `hero'). Lady Eboshi especially is a fascinating character, as she is a genuine antagonist. Her position puts her in direct conflict with Ashitaka and San not because she is evil, but simply because her needs clash with theirs. San herself is extremely aggressive for a heroine, and the various forest animals are even more ruthless and determined. The film constantly blurs the line between protagonist and antagonist; Eboshi destroys the forest but provides work and shelter for social outcasts, San and Moro defend the forest creatures but resort to violence to do so. There is no `right' and `wrong' in this movie, just competing agendas. Such depth and thoughtfulness is welcome, and is one reason why I consider Japanese animation to be above its American counterpart.
If I had to make one criticism of this film, it's that there might be one too many competing agendas. We have Ashitaka and his quest, San, Eboshi and the ironworks, Moro and the wolves, the boars, the monkeys, the forest gods, Jigo, and the Emperor's mercenaries. There is an awful lot happening in this movie, and the various alliances and battles do require some concentration to follow. This alone means `Mononoke' is more suited to an adolescent/adult audience than for children. The pacing and storytelling is perfect, though, meaning the movie is not really difficult to fully appreciate or understand, provided you put in a little effort.
In my opinion, `Princess Mononoke' is Miyazaki's best film, and that's saying something. Outstanding animation, well-drawn characters, intricate plot, and some thought-provoking themes, all presented in a more mature and complex style. An amazing piece of work, and one of the best anime ever made.

Most of them are incredibly over-the-top, some are just plain strange, a lot of them are style-over-substance, and many of them have characters that are WAY too sexual in terms of appearance. The plots themselves are odd to begin with; most of which are as bad as those that we find in more recent cartoons here in the United States. The craze that surrounds these anime films and shows are just wild; it's almost unbelievable. I do respect that other people love these forms of entertainment, but to me, anime is not, and has not been, my thing.

Well anyway, there are some few animes that I really admire, and Princess Mononoke is one of them. This is one of the fewest animated films in which it's targeted at an older audience. It's not a family film: it has blood and no childish humor. It has a strong message: it focuses on humanity and how it's destroying the natural and spiritual side of the world. It is never over-the-top: no quick, colorful shots or strange techno music whatsoever. It's a classic in its genre, and it's Miyazaki's greatest creation, in my opinion. If you're tired of the Akira-like flashy lights, or lack of logic a la Bleach, or maybe even the Pokemon-like cuteness that you find in many children's anime, then Princess Mononoke can be the perfect alternative.
Mind you, though, that even though I see this as one of the greatest anime films ever created, it's not one of my top favorites. I did find the film a bit slow in some parts, and there were some moments about environmentalism that felt too preachy. And San was very annoying in some scenes. I just wished she could be quiet when the film goes on. But those are all the flaws that I can find, and they really are few. Princess Mononoke is, without any doubt whatsoever, one of the greatest animated films to ever come from Japan, and is one of the greatest in general.
