(An Oddity from the Classic Movie Vault)
『"Mother used to say to me, she'd say, 'In this world, Elwood... you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.' Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant."

Those are the words of Elwood P. Dowd (James Stewart), a delusional but happy man whose wealth allows him to carouse the town's bars with his friend Harvey. Harvey is a six foot white rabbit who astounds everyone he is introduced to, and he is introduced to anyone who crosses Dowd's path. Dowd is a friendly man who attempts to soothe the sorrows of everyone he meets with his polite friend Harvey, but not everyone is receptive.

Elwood's sister Miss Simmons (Josephine Hull) loves her brother, but she cannot continue to accept his strange behavior. It is affecting her social life. She decides to enter him into a sanitarium, but her excitable personality contrasts with Elwood's easygoing behavior, and the doctors there mistake Miss Simmons for the crazy one.

The movie progresses in the style of the play it was modeled after, so the dialogue is important and holds a lot of the humor, and the messages about people and society. However, the performances are important too, and Stewart carries the action nicely. He is a pleasant man, but we never get close enough to him to determine if he really is crazy or just making a point. This is the beauty of the film; it is open ended enough to let the audience make up his or her mind.』

(Flimsy Packaging)
『I have already dealt with this problem, but I'll post this because I feel so strongly about it. Amazon used to take better care of it's customers and it's products. Lately, apparently, they use 3rd party companies to do their shipping and what results is flimsy packaging and broken products. I ordered a DVD and, whereas even a year ago, this item would have come in a small cardboard box, insulating my DVD from damage, a few weeks ago I received it in a thin, plastic covering (which is bad for the environment, as well, but it - supposedly - cuts costs for the company). Well, I argue the "cutting costs". I ended up returning the DVD because the box had gotten broken in the shipping process. So, where's the savings for them? They lost a sale. It was a hassle for them, and I KNOW it was a hassle for me. So, I will no longer be buying DVDs or CDs from Amazon until this problem gets remedied. By the way, the actual movie is excellent. You should buy it, just not from Amazon

Caroline』

(Divine madness!)
『"Harvey" is an urban fable; a sharp and mordacious joke about the inseparable Harvey, an imaginary six feet tall rabbit that accompanies to our distorted mind protagonist.

This light comedy plays hard with certain social formalities. The acquired madness of his psychiatrist, the derived entanglements his weird behavior will bring us to a surrealistic set of fine vignettes.

A caustic tale visibly permeated of theatrical feature. A real tour de force for Josephine Hull, the straight lace sister who won a very deserved Academy award for this role and of course Mr. James Stewart as Elwood.

"The real disgrace of Don Quixote is not his fantasy; it's Sancho Panza" (Franz Kafka)』

(A great movie!)
『I had only watched this movie once prior to purchasing it. What a cute show! I absolutely adore the character played by James Stewart.』

(One of his best)
『Like Bob Hope, what can I say about Jimmy.

even he himself said he loved making this movie more than any of his others.
Yes I am sure almost everyone has seen it. But its a DVD you just have to have to watch it when ever you feel down and out as it will pick you up.
They just dont make great movies like Jimmy's or Bob's. Dont loss the great movies of the pass. Know and show your kids and grandkids what clean fun is.
Buy them as there will never be any of the great ever again.』

『James Stewart stars as Elwood P. Dowd, a wealthy alcoholic whose sunny disposition and drunken antics are tolerated by most of the citizens of his community. That is, until Elwood begins to claim that he has a friend named Harvey who is an invisisble six foot rabbit. Elwood's snooty socialite sister, Veta, determined to marry off her daughter Myrtle to a respectable man, begins to plot to keep Elwood's lunacy from interfering.』
『It's always a small surprise to revisit this movie and realize what a subtly dark performance James Stewart gives as an alcoholic who claims he keeps company with a six-foot-tall, invisible rabbit. As Elwood P. Dowd, the actor emits a faint whiff of decay and spirits, yet Stewart also embraces Dowd's romanticism and grace with splendid ease. Based on a hit play and directed by Henry Koster, the film is terribly funny at times, especially whenever Elwood decides it's only polite to introduce Harvey to complete strangers. The supporting cast can't be beat.--Tom Keogh

(Bringing puppets to life, but a few spots of rot in the script)
『"Corpse Bride" is a gruesome addition to the macabre oeuvre of Tim Burton. It tells the story, in stop-motion animation, of Victor and Victoria, a lonely boy and girl who are being forced to wed by their money-grubbing parents. But a chance encounter in graveyard brings back from the dead Emily, the reanimated corpse of a spurned bride. When Victor accidentally slips a ring onto her bony finger, she resolves to wed Victor and bring him back with her to the world of the dead.

The sets are terrific, Victorian ghoulishness at it creepy finest. The dead live underground, in a fast-paced society that mirrors the past, complete with bars and dancehalls. The dead themselves are partly and mostly-decayed skeletons that would probably scare the bejesus out of younger kids. Emily is a case in point. One leg and one arm are decayed to bone. Her ribs are visible on one side through her tattered wedding dress. Instead of rouge, one cheek is rotted to black and the other has lost enough flesh to reveal a toothy jaw line. That Burton's puppet master manage to make her look sexy shows their mastery of the genre. There is wonderful macabre humor is well. At French headwaiter is just that -- the waiter's guillotined head, made mobile by an skittering army of corpse-eating bugs.

The film is wonderful in all respects but plotting. The puppets are masterfully rendered in shades of brown (for the loving) and blue (for the dead). The animation is silky and smooth. But a number of plot lines don't make sense -- do not read on if you wish to be surprised! In spite of Emily's forced marriage to another character, there's no real reason that Victor must marry Emily. And there is no reason that Emily should decide to forgo her marriage to Victor when she sees Victoria in the church. And why a certain evil character would choose to drink a death-dealing potion is a mystery. Except that he plot required that he do so.

Still, there are many, many wonderful touches to The Corpse Bride. A scene of a character dissolving into butterflies was unexpected, touching and stylistically stunning. The stop motion technique did not prevent the artists from giving the characters expression and life. The story's unique touches (like a boy reunited with his long dead dog) were clever and original and fit the plot perfectly.

Almost lifelike, The Corpse Bride's plot could have used just a touch of the mortician's brush to render it restful and at peace.』

(Corpse Bride)
『This was purchased for a Christmas gift. It arrived ontime and in good condition.』

(Corpse Bride is a Tim Burton Triumph)
『Phenomenal story, cinematography, and stop-animation. Tim Burton proves again that he is a masterful director and simply the best at stop-animation. This story will keep you engaged from start to finish. The Blu Ray version of this film is flawless high-def.』

(charming)
『i absolutely love this movie. this film was my first blu-ray purchase. i have recommended it to a number of people who had never even heard of this movie and they all ended up loving it!』

(HD Movie)
『Great deal on a HD movie for my kids. This was a smooth transaction. Item arrived in great condition.』
『Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by JOHNNY DEPP), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love.』
『Who else but Tim Burton could makeCorpse Bride, a necrophiliac's delight that's fun for the whole family? Returning to the richly imaginative realm of stop-motion animation (after previous successes withThe Nightmare Before ChristmasandJames and the Giant Peach), Burton, with codirector Mike Johnson, invites us to visit the dour, ashen, and drearily Victorian mansions of the living, where young Victor Van Dort (voiced by Johnny Depp) is bequeathed to wed the lovely Victoria (Emily Watson). But the wedding rehearsal goes sour and, in the kind of Goth-eerie forest that only exists in Burton-land, Victor suddenly finds himself accidentally married to the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter), a blue-tinted, half-skeletal beauty (how pleasantly full-bosomed she remains!) with a loquacious maggot installed behind one prone-to-popping eyeball. This being a Burton creation, the underworld of the dead is a lively and colorful place indeed, and Danny Elfman's songs and score make it even livelier, presenting Victor with quite a dilemma: Should he return above-ground to Victoria, or remain devoted to his corpse bride? At a brisk 76 minutes, Burton's graveyard whimsy (loosely based on a 19th century Russian folktale) never wears out its welcome, and the voice casting (which includes Tracey Ullman and Albert Finney) is superbly matched the film's gloriously amusing character design, guaranteed to yield a wealth of gruesome toys and action figures for many Halloweens to come.--Jeff Shannon

(Excellent sci-fi drama)
『The miniseries on disc 1 of Battlestar Galactica Season 1 would, as a standalone movie, compete with some of my favorite films. Taken with the rest of Season 1, this is some of the most entertaining television I've ever watched and is a must-see for science fiction fans. Though it's not without the occasional silly trope or unbelievable twist, Season 1 of Galactica stands as evidence of exactly how far the show tumbled in its third and fourth seasons.』

(Battlestar Galactica-Season One)
『I loved the picture and it looked clesrer than when I saw it on TV.』

(A good implementation of a Sci-Fi program)
『Battlestar Galactica is a good show. It brings up really fascinating concepts, but doesn't always deliver in the end. It doesn't transcend to great, but it is very much worth watching. If you like science fiction, you should pick up season one to see if it vibrates on your frequency.』

(Provocative sci-fi series weaves its web)
『It all started with the Pilot episode. Right from the word "go" this show hit it's mark as the cylons appear and then begin to destroy the human civilization. From the opening scene the humans find themselves caught by surprise by the cylons, and then scrambling to survive. What struck me upon first viewing this series was the pacing, and mood of the show, and how the directors carefully orchestrated the drama from constantly surprising angles. Right from the very beginning we get the deliciously provocative entrance of Number 6 as she kisses the human intermediary before his space station is blown to bits.

Season One has many of my favourite episodes, including "You Can't Go Home Again", in which Kara finds herself stranded on a barren, orange world with a fallen cylon fighter which she attempts to kick start in order get back to the Battlestar Galactica, and episode "33", where the Battlestar Galactica is having to jump every 33 minutes in order to evade the cylon ships.

It is interesting to see the pilot episode again after watching the series to the end. One detail that stood out on second viewing was when Starbuck was fighting the cylons. There is a moment when one of the cylon fighters turns around and faces her, but doesn't shoot. This echoes the time when Sam faces a cylon fighter who scans his eyes and identifies him as a cylon.

All in all this is an excellent start to an amazing series that over the course of four seasons has a myriad of mysteries to uncover as the plot grows ever thicker.』

(The Mini Series is the Key)
『Okay, so I seriously tried to watch BSG while it was on SciFi, in the first season, but I could never get into it. I didn't understand it, everyone else that liked all the same shows I did loved it. I was completely lost. The black sheep of the group. So, I just put it off as that I didn't like the show.

During my writer's workshop, my teacher suggested that I watch the show. I'm working on a young adult novel that takes place on a starship and he wasn't sure what feel it had. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure either. So, I was like 'what to heck, I'll just buy the first season on Amazon since it's so cheap.' Really, how many of us are able to watch a series from Blockbuster? I think it ends up costing the same anyways.

The Mini Series was the KEY.

I had started to watch AFTER the Mini Series, when I tried to watch it on TV.

The Mini Series sets us up for the whole show. We are thrown into a not too distant future in which a ship, a Battlestar, is being decommissioned and turned into a musuem. The war with the Cylons (a race of machines that humans created) seems to be over since we humans haven't seen them for decades. All is at peace. The Battlestar in question is the Galactica.

The Cylons had been busy creating humanoid creations of themselves. They look exactly like humans. They end up attacking all of the Twelve Colonies without warning. Civilization as the human race knows it is pretty much wiped out.

The Galactica ends up putting together a fleet of ships that they link up with, among these ships is a ship carrying the surviving member of the presidential cabinet that now takes over as the new president of the twelve colonies, originally just the secretary of education.

This fleet is commanded by Commander William Adama and seconded by Colonel Saul Tigh. These two commanders are old friends and have an interesting relationship. Adama knows how to keep the constantly drunk Tigh under control, he only had joined since it was going to be their last tour. This command team is in charge of a mix-matched group of people. They are not the only ones in command, though, there is also the new president of the Twelve Colonies, President Laura Roslin.

Though there are many bumps between military and civilian authority, the fleet moves on no matter what defending by their Viper and Raptor pilots. We see a lot of these characters. Lee "Apollo" Adama being one of the most prominant and outrightly so in the first season as we see how his relationship with his father evolves along with his rocky relationship with "Starbuck." He sides with President Roslin and puts himself into a deeper hole with his father even though he does not see it as taking a side. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is a hotshot Viper pilot who drinks and smokes too much. She's seen as a daughter by Commander Adama. Other pilots we also see are: Sharon "Boomer" Valerii and Karl "Helo" Agathon.

The first season takes us back to Caprica, one of the Twelve Colonies that was fired upon by the Cylons, as "Helo" chooses to stay there after his and "Boomer"'s Raptor has to land there for repairs. They take on refugees and he makes the choice to stay behind so that Doctor Gaius Baltar can go back to the Galatica.

The future that BSG takes place in is not one that has been perfected at all. There is still cancer and there are still different ways to go about treating it. People still drink and smoke and do things they know are wrong. The characters are all flawed, though this is what makes them so realistic and human. They have to strive for the survival of the human race.』

『Largely wiped out by a hundred years of warfare with the Cylon Empire, the few surviving humans search for the mythical thirteenth colony, Earth.

Battlestar Galactica's Edward James Olmos wasn't kidding when he said "the series is even better than the miniseries." As developed by sci-fi TV veteran Ronald D. Moore, the "reimagined"BGis exactly what it claims to be: a drama for grown-ups in a science-fiction setting. The mature intelligence of the series is its greatest asset, from the tenuous respect between Galactica's militarily principled commander Adama (Olmos) and politically astute President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) to the barely suppressed passion between ace Viper pilot "Apollo" (a.k.a. Adama's son Lee, played by Jamie Bamber) and the brashly insubordinate Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff), whose multifaceted character is just one of many first-season highlights. Picking up where the miniseries ended (it's included here, sparing the need for separate purchase), season 1 opens with the riveting, Hugo Award-winning episode "33," in which Galactica and the "ragtag fleet" of colonial survivors begin their quest for the legendary 13th colony planet Earth, while being pursued with clockwork regularity by the Cylons, who've now occupied the colonial planet of Caprica. The fleet's hard-fought survival forms (1) the primary side of the series' three-part structure, shared with (2) the apparent psychosis of Dr. Gaius Baltar (James Callis) whose every thought and move are monitored by various incarnations of Number Six (Tricia Helfer), the seemingly omniscient Cylon ultravixen who follows a master plan somehow connected to (3) the Caprican survival ordeal of crash-landed pilots "Helo" (Tahmoh Penikett) and "Boomer" (Grace Park), whose simultaneous presence on Galactica is further evidence that 12 multicopied models of Cylons, in human form, are gathering their forces.

With remarkably consistent quality, each of these 13 episodes deepens the dynamics of these fascinating characters and suspenseful situations. WhileBGrelies on finely nuanced performances, solid direction, and satisfying personal and political drama to build its strong emotional foundation, the action/adventure elements are equally impressive, especially in "The Hand of God," a pivotal episode in which the show's dazzling visual effects get a particularly impressive showcase. OriginalBGseries star Richard Hatch appears in two politically charged episodes (he's a better actor now, too), and with the threat of civil war among the fleet, season 1 ends with an exceptional cliffhanger that's totally unexpected while connecting the plot threads of all preceding episodes. To the credit of everyone involved, this is frackin' good television.

DVD features
The fifth disc inBattlestar Galactica's season 1 set is highlighted by eight comprehensive featurettes covering all aspects of the series, from its miniseries origins to standard surveys of production design, visual effects, and particulars of plot and character. For hardcore fans and anyone interested in TV production, nine out of 13 episodes, plus the disc 1 miniseries, are accompanied by intelligent and informative commentary originally provided asBGwebsite podcasts, mostly by series developer and writer Ronald D. Moore, who provides tantalizing clues about developments in season 2. The "Series Lowdown" is a cast-and-crew promotional program originally broadcast to attract SciFi Channel viewers who were initially reluctant to embrace a "reimagined"Battlestar Galactica. The strategy worked: First-season ratings left no doubt that the newBGwas as good as--and in many ways better than--the original.--Jeff Shannon

(For Those Who Already Have This On DVD...)
『...get off the fence, and replace the DVD with this BluRay. There are a lot of BluRays out there that don't look or sound that much better than their standard def counterparts. This isn't one of them. I've never seen such an incredible difference between a DVD and it's matching BluRay before, in either video or audio performance. This is going to end up on a lot of A/V specialists "reference quality" lists before it's all said and done.

Obviously a terrific film, even if you're not a big fan of the TV series that spawned it. If you ARE a fan, get this BluRay...right now.』

(Burn the Land and Boil the Sea)
『This movie proves my claim that part of what makes Firefly a classic TV series is that it's incomplete. In an attempt to turn a brilliant-but-cancelled TV show into a film franchise, the creators try to tie up too many loose ends, lose track of the radiant energy that makes the show a DVD mainstay, and don't even shoot the finished product in a visually appealing manner.

To start with, the movie gives us an opening sequence that flatly contradicts some of the facts revealed in the series pilot. To its credit, this sequence also gives us Chiwetel Ejiofor, an inspired young British actor who adds a strong note to this story. But the confusion brought about by this opening teaser presages the confusion committed fans will likely feel throughout the film.

Then the main body of the story starts several months after the end of the series. Inarra and Book have left the crew of Serenity, and River has crossed a line, getting her and her brother evicted. If this feels like the kind of crew-splitting that caused the first Star Trek movie to have such a confoundingly long opening act, well, that's an apt analogy.

The film then sets out to close down several of the series' unresolved storylines, not by actually closing them, but by creating new storylines that have nothing to do with the series. Couple that with River's newfound superhero powers, and a visual design so murky that the entire movie seems shot through Beijing smog, and you have a film that frustrates rather than satisfies fans.

I really, really love Firefly. Though only fourteen episodes were shot, it's so full of promise and energy that fans of smart stories can't help but be drawn in. That very promise, unsullied by the need for pat answers, has made the unfinished series a classic. This effort at just those pat answers, well, sullies the series. Enjoy your Firefly DVDs, but give this film a miss.』

(East Meets Western Adventure)
『The movie Serenity is based on the series Firefly - a futuristic adventure which follows the exploits of a freighter owner and his experience of eeking out a living in a post war universe. With each job he is faced with the prospect of doing what he needs to do to survive - mostly "bad guy" stuff - and doing what he feels is the right thing to do despite himself.

The supporting cast provides a wonderful set of personalities who are amazing together. The writing and actors are so well blended you can just sit back and believe they have been working together as a team on this freighter for a long time.

There is also a really great balance between humor and reality wherby the advetures are something you don't ever mind being a part of as the observer!

After watching this movie, I miss being a part of this group of friends so much that I want to start it all over again....and usually do!

Enjoy.

(Old School Sci Fi Blended with Contemporary Characters)
『As other reviewers point out, you don't need to know anything about the TV series that came before this movie. In fact, this movie alerted us to the series and we watched all the reruns afterwards.

This movie has superb effects, a great plot, plausible characters and excellent production values.

They stay away from too much science, with the entertainment coming from the characters and plot, not a pseudo explanation of how they zip across space.』

Serenityoffers perfect proof thatFireflydeserved a better fate than premature TV cancellation. Joss Whedon's acclaimed sci-fi Western hybrid series was ideally suited (in Browncoats, of course) for a big-screen conversion, and this action-packed adventure allows Whedon to fill in theFireflybackstory, especially the history and mystery of the spaceship Serenity's volatile and traumatized stowaway, River Tam (Summer Glau). Her lethal skills as a programmed "weapon" makes her a coveted prize for the power-hungry planetary Alliance, represented here by an Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who'll stop at nothing to retrieve River from Serenity's protective crew. We still get all the quip-filled dialogue and ass-kicking action that we've come to expect from the creator ofBuffy the Vampire Slayer, but Whedon goes a talented step further here, blessing his established ensemble cast with a more fully-developed dynamic of endearing relationships.Serenity's cast is led with well-balanced depth and humor by Nathan Fillion as Captain Mal Reynolds, whose maverick spirit is matched by his devotion to crewmates Wash (Alan Tudyk), Zoe (Gina Torres), fun-loving fighter Jayne (Adam Baldwin), engineer Kaylee (Jewel Staite), doctor Simon (Sean Maher), and Mal's former flame Inara (Morena Baccarin), who plays a pivotal role in Whedon's briskly-paced plot. As many critics agreed,Serenityoffered all the fun and breezy excitement that was missing from George Lucas's latter-dayStar Warsepics, and Whedon leaves an opening for a continuing franchise that never feels cheap or commercially opportunistic. With the mega-corporate mysteries of Blue Sun yet to be explored, it's a safe bet we haven't seen the last of the good ship Serenity.--Jeff Shannon

『I've gotten through the season and I'm impressed about this tale about 48 survivors (only about 10 are lead ones) who survive a plane crash and try to make it through a mysterious Island with what looks like a huge creature who is just waiting to gobble them up whole. Mix in some boars and polar bears, a mysterious french woman (I KNOW I SEEN HER BEFORE!!!--I JUST FORGET WHERE FROM!! I WAS REWINDING IT SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT AND I STILL DON'T REMEMBER...GRRRR..), some weird black mist, a mysterious hatch, among others and then somehow managed to mash it into a hit. After the first couple of episodes, I was hooked.

I would rather have them not that french woman in the series (even though she playes a part), it kinda ruined the mystery behind her. The only thing I can say that is a little bit off (not bad, mind you) is the music after the episode is over. Sometimes it dosn't mesh well (like with the episodes in which is a more "feel-good" type). I admit, the 2nd pilot ending (the transmission realization), and the "whispers" ending SCARED THE CRAP OUTTA ME!!! I loved those endings to the episodes. Those are the ones in which I HAD to watch the next one in place of something else such as sleeping, eating, etc.

I need to see what happens to a "certain characters" and I got to see what's the mystery behind the hatch and the big beast that no one seems to see (or the producers keep teasing us by angling the camera a different way...grrrr)
The noice made by the mysterious creature was interesting as well. Now, on to season number 2!!!』

『From J.J. Abrams, the creator ofAlias, comes the action-packed adventure that became a worldwide television event. Stranded on an island that holds many secrets, 48 people must band together if they hope to get home alive. Now you can experience the nonstop excitement and mystery of every episode, from the show's stunning first minute to its spectacular finale, on a seven-disc set. Presented in a widescreen theatrical format with 5.1 Surround Sound and bursting with more than eight hours of original bonus features -- including unairedLostflashbacks from the final episode --Lostis a real find.』
『Along withDesperate Housewives,Lostwas one of the two breakout shows in the fall of 2004. Mixing suspense and action with a sci-fi twist, it began with a thrilling pilot episode in which a jetliner traveling from Australia to Los Angeles crashes, leaving 48 survivors on an unidentified island with no sign of civilization or hope of imminent rescue. That may sound likeGilligan's IslandmeetsSurvivor, butLostkept viewers tuning in every Wednesday night--and spending the rest of the week speculating on Web sites--with some irresistible hooks (not to mention the beautiful women). First, there's a huge ensemble cast of no fewer than 14 regular characters, and each episode fills in some of the back story on one of them. There's a doctor; an Iraqi soldier; a has-been rock star; a fugitive from justice; a self-absorbed young woman and her brother; a lottery winner; a father and son; a Korean couple; a pregnant woman; and others. Second, there's a host of unanswered questions: What is the mysterious beast that lurks in the jungle? Why do polar bears and wild boars live there? Why has a woman been transmitting an SOS message in French from somewhere on the island for the last 16 years? Why do impossible wishes seem to come true? Are they really on a physical island, or somewhere else? What is the significance of the recurring set of numbers? And will Kate ever give up her bad-boy fixation and hook up with Jack?

Lostdid have some hiccups during the first season. Some plot threads were left dangling for weeks, and the "oh, it didn't really happen" card was played too often. But the strong writing and topnotch cast kept the show a cut above most network TV. The best-known actor at the time of the show's debut was Dominic Monaghan, fresh off his stint as Merry the Hobbit in Peter Jackson'sLord of the Ringsfilms. The rest of the cast is either unknowns or "where I have I seen that face before" supporting players, including Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly, who are the closest thing to leads. Other standouts include Naveen Andrews, Terry O'Quinn (who's made a nice career out of conspiracy-themed TV shows), Josh Holloway, Jorge Garcia, Yunjin Kim, Maggie Grace, and Emilie de Ravin, but there's really not a weak link in the cast. Co-created by J.J. Abrams (Alias),Lostleft enough unanswered questions after its first season to keep viewers riveted for a second season.--David Horiuchi

(Another Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume for Me!)
『What's up, Doc? I now have another volume of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection! The cartoons have never looked better or funnier than before. There are even more shorts in this collection than in the first volume. Even the cartoons with miscellaneous characters are really entertaining. I like the inro by Whoopie Goldberg. She had a terrific message to give before the cartoons started. Anyway, if you miss seeing the Looney Tunes on Cartoon Network or Boomerang, this and other Looney Tunes volumes are the stuff for you!』

(WARNING - SOME DEFECTIVE SETS OUT THERE!!)
『I purchased this volume along with volumes 1&2. After watching both volumes without incident, I pulled off the factory seal on volume 3 and discovered, instead of the DVDs, there were 5 BLANK Memorex CD-Rs! I'm not blaming Amazon, because they don't make the things. I writing this mainly as a warning to other customers. Amazon has allowed me to return the defective set and is sending me a replacement. I will post a review of the set once I receive it. Volumes 1&2 were great.』

(Decent Collection of Cartoons)
『Volume 3 in the "Golden Collection" series has number of good cartoons, but not the sheer density of good cartoons found in the first two volumes. All in all, a solid 4-star outing. However, I'm deducting a star for having an annoying, unskippable disclaimer at the beginning of each DVD "hosted" by Whoppi Goldberg. The purpose of this collection is to watch classic cartoons, not to listen to people whine about how the past wasn't as progressive as today.』

(A great set for collectors, featuring many popular cartoons)
『Not as good as Volume One, but still an excellent collection. This set (Vol. 3) is geared more toward animation buffs and collectors, rather than the casual cartoon fan. Disc One focuses on Bugs Bunny, Disc Two focuses on Hollywood caricatures and parodies, Disc Three focuses on Porky Pig, and Disc Four is a miscellaneous hodge podge of Looney Tunes favorites.

The caricatures of golden-age Hollywood stars are classic, but few people today will recognize the references (or care). And most casual Looney Tunes viewers probably won't care about the evolution of Porky, with a disc of several black&white 1930s cartoons. That makes this collection better-suited for the serious Looney Tunes fanatic, in my opinion.

(For casual fans not interested in special features or history lessons, there are the 2-disc "Spotlight Collection" DVDs. They are just the cartoons and seem ideal for kids or families who just want to have fun watching Bugs, Daffy&Co. Check out Vol. 1.)

Like the other Golden Collection sets, this one comes with a lot of cool extras, including:
- the Chuck Jones documentary "Chuck Amuck"
- "Behind-the-Tunes" featurettes about the Wabbit Season trilogy, Bosko and the early black&white toons, the restoration process, Frank Tashlin, Pepe Le Pew, and wartime cartoons
- Chuck Jones's non-Warner Bros. film "The Bear That Wasn't"
- Private Snafu WWII shorts "Rumors", "Snafuperman", and "Spies"
- audio commentaries for select cartoons

And the Looney Tunes cartoons themselves are very good. Many memorable cartoons from my childhood, growing up watching Looney Tunes on TV, as well as some more historically or culturally significant efforts.

Highlights include:
"Duck! Rabbit, Duck!" - part 3 of the classic Rabbit Season/Duck Season, Bugs-Daffy-Elmer trilogy (parts 1 and 2 are both included on Golden Collection, Vol. One)
"Robin Hood Daffy" - Daffy as an outrageous Robin Hood, Porky as Friar Tuck (a classic)
"The Honey-Mousers" - an all-mouse parody of "The Honeymooners" TV show
"Wackiki Wabbit" - shipwrecked sailors meet Bugs on a tropical island
"Porky Pig's Feat" - Porky and Daffy try to escape a hotel without paying their bill
"Swooner Crooner" - a Sinatra-like chicken singer distracts the hens
"Rocket Squad" - Daffy and Porky in an outer-space "Dragnet" parody
"Steal Wool" - a wolf tries to outsmart a sheepdog from 9 to 5
"Daffy Duck&Egghead" - Daffy's zany second-ever appearance, eluding a dim-witted hunter
"To Beep or Not to Beep" - the token Roadrunner/Wile E. Coyote short

This collection also includes appearances by Sylvester&Tweety, Speedy Gonzales, Pepe Le Pew, and Foghorn Leghorn.

This third volume of the Golden Collection series has a glossier packaging than the first two sets and very nice-looking Hollywood-y menus. My set also came with a "collectible litho cell" entitled "The Stars Are Out", featuring Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Pepe, Tweety, Speedy, and Wile E. inside the red Looney Tunes rings.

While this is undoubtedly an excellent DVD set, featuring great cartoons and great extras, I consider it a notch or two below the first Golden Collection set, which I think had a better mix of top-grade Looney Tunes classics. The more specialized focus of the later sets make them a little less fun to just sit down and watch. The sets are still great for collectors, though, and there are enough great cartoons to justify adding Vol. 3 to a growing Looney Tunes collection. (But I wouldn't start with this one.)

All of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVD sets are excellent. The Looney Tunes are still hilarious fun to watch and the 4-disc sets contain around 60 cartoons and loads of bonus features. The sets make great gifts and can be occasionally found on sale for around $26 (down from about $50). This one isn't the best of the series, but it's still very good.』

(Classic Looney Laughs)
『I'm glad I purchased this collection because I needed a good laugh. I have forgotten about many of these shorts and the characters in them because I watched them so long ago. The writers of this collection had to have been looney themselves....Do yourself a favor and buy this and get ready to laugh.』
『RESTORED, REMASTERED AND REE-DICULOUS: COMPLETELY UNCUT AND UNCENSORED LOONEY-NESS, INCLUDING SOME HOME VIDEO DEBUTS! You know what you want. More three-day weekends. More ounces in a pound of chocolates. More Looney Tunes. Your wish is our command. Because in this 4-disc set are 60 more of the most looneytic Looney Tunes ever unleashed on rabbit, duck, pig or humanity. Indeed, some have never before been on home video! Disc 1 features the tall, gray and haresome one. Disc 2 lampoons Hollywood. Ham actor Porky Pig rules Disc 3. And Disc 4 has the duck and a cast of crazies. One thing: to watch these, you must be as tall as this sign. Wrong disclaimer. Read the one in the box below. Got the idea? Now have fun. And pass the chocolates. Disclaimer Box Copy: The Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 3 Is Intended for the Adult Collector and May Not Be Suitable for Children.』
『Like the previous entries in theLooney Tunes Golden Collectionseries, volume 3 confirms how brilliant the Warner Bros. artists were and how durable their creations have proven. The set includes classics that every cartoon buff will recognize: "Duck! Rabbit! Duck!," "Robin Hood Daffy," "Birds Anonymous." Other selections are less familiar but significant in the development of the studio: "Sinkin' in the Bathtub," the first Looney Tune; "I Haven't Got a Hat," the earliest Warners cartoon viewers can watch for fun, rather than as an historic curiosity; "Porky's Romance," in which director Frank Tashlin introduced rapid cutting to cartoons. Some of the caricature films have aged less gracefully. Younger audiences will recognize the drawn versions of W.C. Fields, the Marx Brothers, Katharine Hepburn, and Charlie Chaplin. But will anyone under the age of 60 remember Edna Mae Oliver, George Arliss, or Ned Sparks?

The producers have once again loaded the discs with supplemental material, including "Point Food Rationing," a unseen short explaining wartime ration books; a BBC documentary on Chuck Jones; and interstitial animated sequences forThe Bugs Bunny Show. "Philbert" ranks as the oddest of the extras: an unsold (and leaden) pilot from 1963, featuring live actors and an animated title character. Whoopi Goldberg introduces the set, explaining that some of the ethnic gags would no longer be considered appropriate. But she correctly adds that to remove them would falsify both the history of animation and American popular culture. It all adds up to a set every cartoon fan will want. (Unrated, suitable for all ages: cartoon violence)--Charles Solomon

(Finally a version worthy of a great film.)
『This 15th Anniversary edition is no gimmick, is has wonderful picture quality and really great sound. For a movie that was so great and spawned a few TV spin offs Stargate the movie really needed and deserved this, especially after the lack luster first release on Blu ray.

So for those owning the first release on bluray and wondering if this is worth the upgrade is most certainly is in every way picture-sound-bonus material, and I havn't even started watching the all new special features which by the way seem like their going to be very cool and I'm usually not even into special feature or bonus material.』

(Stargate 15th Anniversary Edition [Blu-ray])
『I ordered this latest Blu Ray copy, But it did not work after the previews the movie did not boot up. I retuned that one and they sent me another one that did the same thing. I tried both disks on both of my Blu Ray players that had a soft where updatethis year, and all other blu ray disks work just fine.

I will try to order again in December, hopefully they will have a new batch by than and I will get one that works.

(Finally a worthy release!)
『After all the poor releases of this film, Lionsgate has finally stepped up and given the fans the REAL Ultimate Edition. This is a new 1080p VC-1 film-to-disc transfer (~25 Mbps peak), with an all-new 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio track (7 Mbps peak) which literally shakes the floor and sounds more alive and active than I've ever heard. I can't compare this to the 2006 blu-ray since I never purchased it (after reading that it too was subpar), but it's a massive upgrade from my 2003 Artisan disc. Rounding out this release is 4+ hours of bonus content, none of which is contained on the previous blu-ray. The best part of the deal was the fact that I was able to purchase this for $9.99 from a local big box retailer due to some confusion over which version was on sale. If you haven't purchased the 2006 blu-ray (and even if you have!) this is a must-own for fans.』

(A Review from Someone who has seen the disc?)
『This is an interesting approach, a review from someone who has seen the disc itself, unlike the first four reviews. Although I do agree that MGM could have built a new studio from the income from the multiple releases of this title. The first two were sub-par quality releases that were not anamorphic. The third release included the both versions and were animorphic. They were a big step up but clearly atleast the second release was strictly for the money. The final DVD release prior to this one, did not include the Theatrical version. Stargate was one of the first film on Blu-Ray as it first appeared in 2006. It contains no extra features and has only a DTS soundtrack, which is actually quite good. How does the new release compare to the first BR? Unfortunately, the image quality is UNCHANGED. It appears to be the identical transfer as the 2006 version. The new release does include the theatrical version, which in my opinion, is superior. The Extended Version gives away the plot to early and repeats a screne or two. I also like that in the theatrical release, when the general must decide whether to include Dr. Jackson on the mission, Kurt Russell with his back to the camera says "It's Your Call", instead of "He's full of S...." which he says in the extended version. The sound is slightly improved on the anniversary edition and it does include about 2 hours of bonus stuff. If you simply like the film and are not interested in the bonus features and the Extended version is the one you like, there is not image quality improvement so I would say, do not waste your money. Since I like the Theatrical version, I invested in the new one.』

(Why this was put out again)
『This Blu-ray will be a 50 gig disc opposed to the first one which was only 25 gig. Just like early DVDs were pretty much just a low quality copy of the movie with no extras the same thing happened with early blu-ray. They lacked a lot of features and only used 25 gig discs.

I will be purchasing this blu-ray as this is such a visually stunning movie worth the purchase. Not all movies are needed on blu-ray but this is one that is a must buy.

When looking to buy new blu-rays check the package to make sure that they are at least 50 gig discs.』

(A superb entry to the superhero genre and re-generation of the Batman franchise)
『Tim Burton fostered in a new era of superhero films with his impressively dark, original Batman films BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS. Then Joel Schumacher trashed all that with his horrific, comical and empty flicks BATMAN FOREVER and BATMAN AND ROBIN.

Thankfully (and there's an hitch!), Christopher Nolan's 2005 rendering BATMAN BEGINS is a fine return to form for the popular dark superhero. Nolan based BB in "reality" and focuses on young Bruce Wayne (excellent work by Christian Bale), who witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, who travels the world trying to understand the criminal mind and ends up undertaking ninja training in the Far East under the tutelage of Henri Ducard (a slyly malevolent Liam Neeson) and Ras Al Ghul.

Upon his return to Gotham after years of exile, Wayne resumes his place as the head of Wayne Manor, which was taken care of in his absence by family major domo Alfred (fine performance by the esteemed Michael Caine) and Wayne Industries, run by Mr. Earle (wonderfully played by veteran screen bad guy Rutger Hauer). Wayne also meets Lucius Fox (reliably played by the great Morgan Freeman), the head of the Development section of Wayne Industries, and enlists his help in obtaining high-tech equipment so that he can begin leading his double life as both Wayne and Batman. Last, but not least, Bruce re-acquaints himself with his childhood friend and now assistant DA Rachel Dawes (played surprisingly well by Katie Holmes).

So the adventure begins! Batman prowls the streets of Gotham at night taking out scuzzy lowlifes at first (he saves Rachel from some goons on the subway) and making his initial mark. He also thwarts the city's top criminal Carmine Falcone (solidly played by Tom Wilkinson), who ironically is the man who ordered the kill of the man who killed Bruce's parents. Batman also meets Police Sgt. Jim Gordon (superb work by Gary Oldman), who initially skeptical, ends up being the conduit between Batman and the police force. Batman runs into a higher class of criminal in Dr. Crane/Scarecrow (creepily played by Cillian Murphy), who shoots a toxic concoction from his mask to literally psych out his victims. At the climax, Batman must save Gotham from his former mentor Ducard, who it turns out was the head ninja Al Ghul all along!

BATMAN BEGINS is perhaps the first Batman film to focus primarily on the hero himself and not the villains. A highly involving character study of one man's despair, disillusionment, acceptance, strength, and resolve, Nolan manages to elevate BB above the genre. I've not seen all his work, but I've got to believe this is perhaps one of the best (if not the best!) performance of Christian Bale's career. Additionally, Nolan does a good job of CGI-ing effects to make a real city an authentic stand-in for Gotham (unlike an umentioned sequel that didn't even try! Told you there was a hitch!). A superhero film where the protagonist is the star? Novel idea!』

(The Dark, Grim Batman Has Returned)
『Live-action wise (the animated films having always retained a mature nature since 1992), this is the best take on Batman since Burton's two. Batman's origin's are explored and some of his training is delved into. Christian Bale makes for a good Batman, the voice that he uses for the character doesn't get on my nerves as most people would think but my main complaint are, like others, is the action sequences. There are too many fast cuts and the action is just barely indistinguishable. Michael Caine is the best Alfred, Michael Gough from the previous four hardly being in them until Batman&Robin, and that was only because he was dying. Caine's version is much more involved with Bruce and cares about him, a noted scene being when he's driving a poisoned Batman home. You can tell that he's deeply worried about him. Katie Holmes. How to describe her. Well she's more believable as a DA than Denise Richards was a physicist but she doesn't really convey any emotions (much like Lois Chiles and Barbara Bach from the Bond films). And her inexplicable interest in wanting to know Batman's name seems almost forced in my opinion. I know he saved her life, twice, but she's never really given any inclanation to really find out who he is. Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy are perfect as Ra's al Ghul (Ra'Z al Ghul is not his name) and the Scarecrow respectively. My main problem with the villains, Scarecrow imparticular, is that they look nothing like their comic book counterparts. I know Nolan wants to keep a "realistic" look to the films but I wish he were a little more faithful to how they looked in the comics. The plot is very good, with plenty of twists and turns to keep a new viewer on their toes. Lastly, James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer's score is quite good but their heroic theme is quite forgettable when compared to Danny Elfman's, but definitely a step up from that atrocious Elliot Goldenthal.』

(Erroneous Amazon Info, Won't Play on Some SONY BD Players)
『First, there is no Japanese language track and only Japanese or Chinese subtitles, not both. (I'm not sure which subtitled language is listed because I don't read either language, but I suspect it's Chinese because some of the characters are much more complex than most Japanese characters.)

Also, IF YOU OWN A SONY BLU-RAY PLAYER THIS DISC MAY NOT PLAY! I sold a perfectly fine Batman Begins BD to a guy with a Sony player who fantasized that the disc was filthy or heat damaged, neither of which were true. Only after he bought a 2nd BB BD and discovered that it, too, would not play in his Sony BD player did he realize the problem was his player, not because I was some sort of scheister, which I'm not.

[...]

After the guy returned the disc to me it played (and is playing now) perfectly fine in my PS3.』

(Batman begins blue Ray)
『The movie worked without flaw and looked great on my tv, no problems playing it. Thanks for the DVD.』

(Excellent Movie)
『This movie renewed my interest in Batman. Christian Bale is probably the best batman yet. I highly this movie.』
『Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.』
Batman Beginsdiscards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. That's good news, because the series, which had gotten off to a rousing start under Tim Burton, had gradually dissolved into self-parody by 1997'sBatman&Robin. As the title implies,Batman Beginstells the story anew, when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) flees Western civilization following the murder of his parents. He is taken in by a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) and urged to become a ninja in the League of Shadows, but he instead returns to his native Gotham City resolved to end the mob rule that is strangling it. But are there forces even more sinister at hand?

Cowritten by the team of David S. Goyer (a veteran comic book writer) and director Christopher Nolan (Memento),Batman Beginsis a welcome return to the grim and gritty version of the Dark Knight, owing a great debt to the graphic novels that preceded it. It doesn't have the razzle dazzle, or the mass appeal, ofSpider-Man 2(though the Batmobile is cool), and retelling the origin means it starts slowly, like most "first" superhero movies. But it's certainly the best Bat-film since Burton's original, and one of the best superhero movies of its time. Bale cuts a good figure as Batman, intense and dangerous but with some of the lightheartedness Michael Keaton brought to the character. Michael Caine provides much of the film's humor as the family butler, Alfred, and as the love interest, Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek) is surprisingly believable in her first adult role. Also featuring Gary Oldman as the young police officer Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as a Q-like gadgets expert, and Cillian Murphy as the vile Jonathan Crane.--David Horiuchi

(A dreary assault)
『It's strange that such well-crafted CGI effects, costumes, set design, cinematography and acting could be so unappealing and depressing. I know part of the point is that these are anti-heroes, but that doesn't mean this film couldn't be more entertaining. It was visually stunning and edited decently, but watching a fight where the only characters you could be rooting for are bored and annoyed by their burden is a pretty good example of how to dull narrative. There is nothing at stake here, and it's pretty unpleasant and depressing. Not to say depressing is a bad thing, either. Bergman, to cite a cliched example, is somewhat depressing, but there is still the redeeming value of his insights into what it means to be human and there's catharsis in that. This film, taken as a whole, is overwrought and convoluted. The many well-crafted components do not make up for the fact that the narrative arc droops after awhile because there is no tension, no suspense, nothing at stake. I mean - it shows major issues: the fate of the world is at state - but I think it's hard for the audience to feel any concern. At least for me it was. (Maybe this is more about why go to a movie like this when you can read the newspaper). But, I do think this film shows interesting themes in an analystical, detached way. It's one thing for the characters to be analytical and introspective. It's another for the film to be only this way. This film should be exciting. but instead, it's schematic and slow. I know there is a ton of action, but there's nothing to ground it. Without a compelling, clear narrative and characters that I care about, it feels arbitrary. I know this is, of course, just an opinion, but if you want a good story that you will care about - read the book. For me, the movie was a kind of dreary assault, lacking pace and excitement. But, still 3 stars. It's not terrible. If you rent it, maybe just watch it in small doses.』

(Was not IN TACT!)
『When I ordered the package I expected it to be in tact including the case, but when I opened it parts of the bottom of the case fell out showing broken pieces of plastic which secured the CDs. Luckily the Blu rays still worked but I expect ALL parts to be welltaken care of ESPECIALLY the case.』

(The Watchmen)
『This movie was a drag. It literally dragged on forever and ever with no real story line, no interesting characters either. I finally just quit watching it, it was so boring.』

(Who Watches the Watchmen)
『"Who watches the watchmen" is one of the most memorable lines smeared across the buildings and lips of citizens in the graphic novel Watchmen. The graphic novel that went far beyond its time thanks to writer Alan Moore, it has since been turned into a popular movie phenomenon by director Zack Snyder, who managed to capture the pure essence of the novel straight to the core, leaving out what some believe are important components in the novel, yet still maintaining the overall message. Watchmen presents the story of a group of masked heroes who live in an era where the world is on the brink of nuclear war. The six masked heroes Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Rorschach,The Comedian, Silk Spectre and Ozymandias each represent the six ways to view the world in the radical time period it is set in. What ties this movie into a cultural phenomenon is the way in which it presents the solution and struggles of the Cold War era. The line "who watches the watchmen" is a sort of an irony that can be seen at the end of the movie. The masked hero, also portrayed as the smartest man in the world, Ozmandias, plans to save the human race, and unite the nations against a common enemy, by faking an alien invasion that ultimately killed half of the population in NY, yet no one knows of this secret conspiracy. Although this ending was cut from the film, and substituted with a giant explosion, it still presented the same message, that chaos that endangers the lives of friend and enemy alike, will result in union against this common enemy.
Although many skeptical fans believed that Snyder would not be able to capture the comic book in all of its glory, the outcome however begged to differ. Watchmen came out as an incredible watching experience, full of violence, drama, love and conspiracy. Each characters development is brought into focus on camera, what they discover about themselves and the world around them makes for an explosive emotional movie that captures young and old audiences alike.

『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 07/21/2009 Rating: R』
『Everybody's favorite graphic novel comes to the screen (after years of rumors and false starts), less a roaring work of adaptation than a respectful and faithful take on a radical original.Watchmenis set in the mid-1980s, a time of increased nuclear tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, as Richard Nixon is enjoying his fifth term as president and the world's superheroes have been forcibly retired. (As you can probably tell, the mix of authentic history and alternate reality is heady.) Things begin with a bang: the mysterious high-rise murder of the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a masked hero with a checkered past, puts the rest of the retired superhero community on alert. The credits sequence, a series of tableaux that wittily catches us up on crime-fighting backstory, actually turns out to be the high point of the movie. Thereafter we meet the other caped and hooded avengers: the furious Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), the inexplicably naked Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup, amidst much blue-skinned, genital-swinging digital work), Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman), Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), and Ozymandias (Matthew Goode). The corkscrewing storytelling, which worked well in the comic book, gives the movie the strange sense of never quite getting in gear, even as some of the episodes are arresting. Director Zack Snyder (300) doesn't try to approximate the electric impact of the original (written by Alan Moore--who declined to be credited on the movie--and illustrated by Dave Gibbons) but retains careful fidelity to his source material. That doesn't feel right, even with the generally enjoyable roll-out of anecdotes. Even less forgivable is the blah acting, excepting Jeffrey Dean Morgan (lusty) and Patrick Wilson (mellow).Watchmencertainly fills the eyes, although less so the ears: the song choices are regrettable, especially during an embarrassing mid-air coupling between Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II as they unite their--ah--Roman numerals. In the end it feels as though a huge work of transcription has been successfully completed, which isn't the same as making a full-blooded movie experience.--Robert Horton

Also on the disc
The extended director's cut restores 24 minutes of connective tissue to the 162-minute film, most significantly the last scene of Hollis Mason, the first Nite Owl. Other elements help restore and fill in details that had been in the graphic novel. Fans of the film will be glad for the extra footage but there's nothing momentous that will change anyone's basic like or dislike of the film.

The second disc has the documentary "The Phenomenon: The Comic That Changed Comics," 29 min.), which looks at the original graphic novel and its themes, and interviews artist Dave Gibbons, DC Comics executives Jenette Kahn and Paul Levitz, and cast and crew, illustrating its points with scenes from the movie, panels from the graphic novel, and parts of the motion comic. There's also My Chemical Romance's "Desolation Row" music video and the 11 video journals that helped stir up excitement leading up to the theatrical run. No longer available is a Digital Copy of the film (compatible with both iTunes and Windows Media; download code expires July 21, 2010)l.--David Horiuchi

DVD features
Even if you saw every episode ofLoston TV--or perhapsespeciallyif you saw every episode--the DVD set is a must-own. The episodes are presented in widescreen format, just as they were broadcast on high-definition channels. (Conventional ABC-TV broadcasts were reduced to 1.33 full-screen format.) Four of the episodes have commentary tracks by the producing team and the actors who were featured on certain episodes (Terry O'Quinn, Dominic Monaghan, and Maggie Grace and Ian Sommerhalder). The last disc has over three hours of bonus material sensibly broken into three categories. "Departure" discusses the initial creation of the series, the making of the pilot, and the cast (some characters were created to fit the actors, and Evangeline Lilly's Kate was the hardest to cast). It also includes the cast's audition tapes and photographs by Matthew Fox. "Tales from the Island" provides background material on seven of the episodes plus the boars used in filming, Jimmy Kimmel's appearance on the set, and the genesis of the Driveshaft song ("You all everybody..."). Finally, "Lost Revealed" includes two scenes cut from the season finale, 13 other deleted scenes (not identified by episode, unfortunately), a blooper reel, and the cast and crew's giddy appearance at the Museum of Television&Radio.--David Horiuchi

(Awesome first season)
『A well thought out story line with great actors and plot twist make this a very addictive series thus far. Excited to jump into the next season!』

(Heroes)
『the box was in some what bad condition but its all good.love the show and dident tack long to get to my home』

(Imaginitive and wild ride!)
『I never watched Heroes on TV, but I would hear the hype everyday, so I bought a cheap copy of season one and I completely understand why everyone is going bezerk over this show! The characters are extremely interesting and the plot always keeps me coming back for more. I love the cast and the acting, in my opinion, is top notch! For any Marvel or other comic book fans, this show will definately not disappoint!』

(Kill Me Now)
『Let me just state I currently hate this show, I have and I'm more then positive I always will. I refused to watch the show when it was on tv but I was sick and laid up and "friend" gave me this season and the rest. It was long, repeatative, and quite ridiculous. After the first 2 episodes I often wished that everyone but peter would just die. I only sat through the season because my friend said Zachary Quinto was in there, it took almost 10 episode before he even showed up. This was the first time I have ever watch a show and have not rooted for the good guys.』

(X-Men in the X-Files)
『As a long lover of sci-fi superheroes, it is very rare to find anything all that original anymore. After your first love, and for me it was the X-Men in this genre, most other things look formulaic.

It took me two full episodes to warm to this series. At first, I thought it was entirely derivative, exactly the same plot as the X-Men: powerful mutants learn to use their powers, some are good and some bad, while a fearful public stands more or less in the dark as to the truth. The association of Stan Lee to the production didn't help.

Then I noticed several things that made this better and better in terms of quality. The characters are quite interesting, from Hiro (the naive Manga enthusiast who relishes his status as superhero) to the complicated family, the Petrellis (one a politician who is vacillating between sleaze and conscience and his younger brother, variously seen as a softie loser and the most powerful of them all). The acting is quite believable, if at times middling. And they grow on you as you see alternative futures and the like for them.

Then there is a tongue and cheek joking at the notion behind the entire genre of mutant superheroes, which fans take way way too seriously for their own mental balance. It is a delicate balance, because while avoiding comedy the viewer needs to suspend their disbelief and just enjoy it. This really worked for me because it was contained in the characters, not in stupid sit-com style situations.

Finally, the peeling back of layers of conspiracy and intrigue are worthy of the X-Files. While it is not to everyone's taste, I enjoyed it, particularly in the father of the cheerleader, who rebels and comes out as a good guy if too machiavellian.

Warmly recommended. It is very fun entertainment.』

『Discover the phenomenon that is sweeping audiences everywhere as Heroes: Season 1 comes to DVD! Experience the suspense, mystery, and electrifying twists as this astonishing series follows seemingly unconnected, ordinary people around the globe who discover they have extraordinary powers. As they come to terms with their unique abilities, their risky decisions will affect the futures of everyone around them…and the world. Join their epic journey in this seven-disc set packed with hours of fascinating and revealing bonus features, including the never-before-aired series premiere from show creator Tim Kring.』
『Arguably the most talked-about television show of the 2006-2007 season, the Emmy-nominated fantasyHeroesgives viewers blends comic book-style adventure with plotting and characters as rich and layered as any graphic novel or drama series. Creator Tim Kring's premise is deceptively simple– ordinary individuals in locations around the globe discover that they have, for lack of a better term, super powers, and wrestle with this reality while facing challenges both global (the destruction of New York City, for one) and personal (indestructible cheerleader Hayden Panetierre has familyissues – serious ones, as the true identity of her adoptive father reveals; Milo Ventimiglia's Peter Petrelli, who absorbs other powers, must overcome his own insecurities). Add to this mix a terrific villain – Zachary Quinto's Sylar, who hunts and kills people with extraordinary powers like our heroes – and viewers have a riveting series that exhibits an almost-perfect balance of cliffhanger thrills (the action and special effects are truly impressive for a network program) and genuine drama that sets the show apart from most speculative fiction (save, perhaps, the revivedBattlestar Galactica, which it compares too favorably). The seven-disc set ofHeroes: Season Oneoffers a wealth of extras for fans, who may be familiar with some of them through the NBC.com website, especially the cast commentaries, which are featured on half of the episodes. Kring is featured on the 73-minute uncut pilot episode, which for some viewers, may be even better than the network version; the main difference is the degree of character development, including an entire storyline for D.L. Hawkins that isn't featured in the broadcast version. Also on deck are some 50 deleted scenes from the episodes, several by-the-books making-of featurettes, including coverage of the special effects and stunt work, and a profile of artist Tim Sale, whose illustrations are used for Isaac Mendez's prophetic artwork. Prospective buyers should note that while all of these supplemental features are included on the HD-DVD version of this set, the special Web-connectivity elements are not available here.-- Paul Gaita
