(Gremlins) 『Poor writing, poor acting, predictible etc. My main beef, though, is the scene where Phoebe Cates' character tells the story about how she found out there wasn't really a Santa Claus. Be warned before watching this with young children. I wish I had been!!』
(HILARIOUS!!!!!) 『I LOVE THIS MOVIE. THIS MOVIE MADE ME LAUGH; IT DEFINITELY WASN'T A HORROR MOVIE IN MY OPINION. I LAUGHED MY HEAD OFF WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!!』
(Horror gone B-Movie funny...) 『...You watch it and find yourself sucked into an otherwise story by numbers movie (hey, the old guy says "no sunlight, water or food after midnight" so you're warned what to expect already). Main criticism of course is its lack of focus on the hilarious antics of the evil Gremlins (something the sequel did a little better) who destroy a good portion of a town, but aren't seen nearly enough to make you detest them - instead they're little more than pests. The level of gore is surprising, which is how you can tell that this isn't technically a "kids" movie, so care should be taken with young children (but saying that I'd have been 7 when I saw this and had no problem....but then Nightmare on Elm Street might have desensitised me a bit by that time) but it's essential viewing if only so that you can watch the sequel too.』
(Funny horror movie!) 『Me and my best friend rented this movie from block buster because my mom said it was really good. We started watching it thinking it was kind of weird and didn't get it. Then we got into it a little more and started to enjoy it. It was kind of funny then this kind of dramatic part came up. we stoped smiling and giggling and got kind of scared. Then a gremlin popped out of nowhere and my friend and I were practiclly waking up the whole neighborhood with our screams. Then we just started laughing and had a great time and enjoyed the movie! At our next sleepover, we are definetly watching Gremlins 2!』 『A man buys a Mogwai as a Christmas present for his son. The young boy is told to keep the pet away from water, out of the light and never to feed it after midnight. Inadvertently, the creature is dampened and almost instantly, produces half a dozen furry replicas of itself --which continue to multiply and turn the small town upside-down.』

(The BEST version (1947 w/Natalie Wood) FINALLY comes to Blu-ray!!! (blu-ray review only) (explained)) 『One of the BEST Holiday movies (ever) comes to Blu-ray!!! Now we have some of the BEST ALL-TIME Holiday Classics coming to Blu-ray.
My short list of the Best of the Best for family enjoyment available in Blu-ray are; Leading the way is 1.) Miracle on 34th Street (1947), then 2.) A Christmas Story (1983), 3.) A Christmas Carol (1951 and 4.) A Wonderful Life (1946). These are must have movies!!
Miracle on 34th Street has been beautifully remastered in HD (1080p). The all-star cast are even better in this feature presentation. (better then the 35mm theater version in 1947). With the Home theater big screen we can now enjoy these classics as they are met to be seen.
NOTE: Movies prior to 1953 are Standard format 4:3 (1.33:1)Aspect Ratio versus Widescreen 16:9 Aspect Ratio. Also ONLY "A Christmas Story" is in COLOR!!!
This Blu-ray version of a Cherished Holiday Family Tradition has such clarity and pure Dolby Digital sound that you experience the movie in a never before felt appreciation. I can only say WOW!!!!!!!!!
Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn playing Kris Kringle (winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) are the perfect cast for this Wonderful movie. Don't miss this Blu-ray version.
Bottomline: ALL THE SAME EXTRAS/SPECIAL FEATURES AS THE STANDARD VERSION (EXCEPT THE COLORIZED VERSION). In my opinion the original movie presentation personifies the message of the feature and introduces us to story and characters.
I highly recommend this feature for your Holiday Home Theater Library!!! IMMEDIATELY a family tradition with multiple viewings each year GUARANNTEED!!!

(Finally proof that Santa is real.) 『I will not bore you with a recap of the whole movie or state, which is obvious to all that this 1947 black and white movie is one of the major Christmas Classics.
Kris Kringle (Edmond Gwenn) is appalled to find a Santa preparing to be in the Thanks Giving Day parade is intoxicated. Kris is hired to play the part of him self. He befriends a child Susan (Natalie Wood) who does not believe in Santa or the tooth fairy or giants. His employer Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara) is dubious of her decision to hire him after learning that he believes he is Santa. In the spirit of Christmas he brings two rival stores together and is in the process of bringing the girl around to believing. Naturally I left out many other controversial questions and fun scenes. Among them is one where a Dutch girl recognizes him as Santa and he speaks Dutch to her. Through a few misunderstandings he is put on trial and must prove he is Santa. Can his friend, who happens to be a lawyer, prove this? If not what will happen to him? What effect will this have on Susan? Or you?
Them! (Snap Case)~ Edmond Gwenn 』
(Not colorized -- BIG disappointment) 『Miracle on 34th Street is the best colorized movie in the history of cinema. This is a CHRISTMAS movie. Christmas is the most colorful time of the year. This is a HUGE disappointment . . . they could have easily put both B&W and colorized versions on one blu-ray disc. What sap in Hollywood made this decision? . . . they just lost tens of thousands of sales because of this major screw up. 』
(I have all the versions of this film....) 『Happy to have it in BLU-RAY format BUT whoever put this together did a really bad job as the other reviewers have already expressed. It also has less content than the two disc DVD set that came out a few years ago...it is missing things like the TV show version, etc. If you are going to reissue as a BLU-RAY....you do not take content away. It does say in the paragraph on the back that it has the color version as well BUT it does not. I too like the black and white version better BUT what moron left the color version off? I am going to call the # on the back of the DVD and report their errors.』 『Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 10/06/2009 Run time: 96 minutes Rating: G』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Some decent personal drama, but silly ghost stories) 『[note: this is a review of the series, not the DVDs so much]
So, this is what Jessica Love Hewitt is up to these days. I'm not a fan of ghost stories generally and would normally warn those who aren't to shy away from this series. However, if you can get by the ghosts, several of the episodes use the ghost story as a plot device to explore compelling HUMAN stories (somewhat like Hewitt's film If Only). As such, even if you don't like ghosts, read on:
The good: In the episodes I've seen at least, the story with the ghosts provided a segway into a far more compelling human drama. For example, in one episode I saw, the ghosts torment a father and daughter who feel guilty over the mother's death. The emotionally compelling part of the episode was seeing the father and daughter deal with their guilt and frustration. Hewitt, as the ghost whisperer, indirectly helps these catharses.
Now, the bad: The ghosts aren't subtle. With a few exceptions (generally shadows in a dark room), the ghosts look and act just like normal people, only that "only" Hewitt can see them. There's no especially pale skin, glow, or anything else to make the ghosts seem anything more than, well, hollywood actors. Unfortunately, this detracts from the show as it makes it harder to take the ghosts seriously.
In short, if you like the type of sitcom/dramas generally shown on the WE channel, you might like Ghost Whisperer. Don't be too turned off by the ghosts in the stories (even if the ghosts can get snarky at times). However, this isn't a sci-fi series or comedy sitcom.』
(Great show!!) 『Ghost Whisperer is a fantastic show and keeps getting better from year to year. I would recommend to anyone who is a fan to purchase these box sets.
Order your copy today!!』
(Ghost Whisperer Season 4) 『Wonderful how things can turn well for melinda and Jim!! Cannot wait for the season 5 to go out on DVD.』
(It's an interesting turn for a maturing series) 『Ghost Whisperer banks on the viewer's belief in the redemptive power of good deeds and the talent of the busty Jennifer Love Hewitt. If four seasons down with a fifth one under way is any indication, the series has a definite following. And, considering the test of loyalty the fourth season poses to its fans, the fact that it didn't spin out and lose its fans after killing off one its main characters says a lot for the show's future. Either way, what you get when you tune in to Ghost Whisperer falls somewhere in between Dead Like Me and the 2008 film Ghost Town: a woman can converse with ghosts and help them complete their "unfinished business" (thanks Casper) so they can pass into the Light (a blatant representation of heaven).
This may be one of the few seasons of a show where jumping in without any foreknowledge of the story or characters can prove to be a huge impediment. Obviously there's some truth in this for all television shows, but for Ghost Whisperer you really need to give yourself a briefing on the past season's happenings before jumping in.
TV viewers familiar with Buffy the Vampire Slayer will remember that Buffy just happened to live in the town located on the Hellmouth, the portal leading to Hell from whence came many a demon and evil ghoulie, which helped explain why she encountered so many evil things. For Ghost Whisperer there's no such handy device, instead you'll just have to believe that Melinda (Hewitt) chose to live in Grandview because it's got a rather impressive death and haunting count. With her husband Jim (David Conrad), Melinda talks with ghosts in an attempt to solve a mystery and release the living from torment at their hands. As season three came to a close Melinda was learning about her ghost whispering heritage and how it is she came to possess this ability and her purpose.
Season four jumps in to gear with the introduction of a new character and the departure of another...or two. Rick Payne (Jay Mohr) who has held a consulting position in Melinda's ghost business has decided it's time to move on after a few events in the last season forced him to rethink his life. Just as one man leaves, another man, Eli James (Jamie Kennedy), finds himself thrust into the world of spirits in a way that means a new partner for Melinda. Eli gains the ability to listen to spirits after surviving a near-death experience. Melinda helps Eli learn to cope with the voices of the spirits living in the world and he in time becomes a valuable asset and comfort for Melinda's fourth season loss.
**Spoiler Starts**
The death of Jim, Melinda's loss. It's the event which forms the rest of the season and how Melinda handles each case from there on out. Interestingly enough it happens very early on and shows that the writers of the series are willing to take the necessary steps to keep the audience on their feet. Was it a ratings grab? Sure, there might have been some truth in that - but it worked. The fourth season became the highest watched of any of the seasons and provided a terrific springboard for the remaining episodes of the season.
**Spoiler Ends**
The show gets by on its highly emotional drama and really makes no attempt to hide what it is. It's a melodramatic show about people, ghosts and the problems that exist in between those two communities. If the concept behind Ghost Town or Dead Like Me appealed to you then you actually might find a close match in Ghost Whisperer.
DVD Bonus Features:
The fan-favorite webseries "The Other Side III" is included in its entirety and it should be noted that for anyone beyond the show's diehard fans it's of little interest. The webseries exists within the Ghost Whisperer universe but deviates from the perspective of Melinda Gordon. There are three interactive activities included on the discs with "Grave Mistakes", "Haunted Dollhouse" and "Fashion Style Guide" allowing you to examine the wardrobe of the show or help Jim escape a haunted dollhouse. Left? Right? Help him escape. As you might expect, Jamie Kennedy gets his own little featurette as the cast's newest addition. Also, as if to help the fans cope with the loss that occurs in the fourth season, there's a behind-the-scenes featurette where cast and crew members discuss the emotional impact the season will have on its viewers. However, the best thing in the extras, if you trust an ex-X-Files junkie, is an interview with Mark Snow concerning his score for the show.』

In season 10, Vala, a former Goa'uld host turned freedom-fighter, joins SG-1 in their battle to defend the galaxy from the holy war of the Ori. Meanwhile, relations between the Jaffa and Earth continue to be strained. It all comes to a sizzling end on the finale.』 『If this five-disc, 20-episode, tenth season set really is the end ofStargate SG-1--and considering the number of reprieves the show has already had and the rumors of various movie spin-offs, not to mention the fact that the final installment is entitled "Unending," who knows?--then the folks responsible for this durable sci-fi series can be proud that they finished it off in style, with a run of episodes that are for the most part highly entertaining, exciting, and fun, offering resolution if not complete closure. And if sharks were jumped, at least they were small ones. As was the case in Season 9, and to a large extent in Season 8 as well, original series star Richard Dean Anderson is little in evidence here. Portraying Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Ben Browder, who came toStargate SG-1from the underratedFarscape, is now entrenched as leader of SG-1, the Stargate project's ace team in the field, joining series veterans Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Michael Shanks (as Samantha Carter, Teal'c, and Daniel Jackson, respectively). Most notably, fellowFarscapealum Claudia Black has an ever-expanding role as Vala, whose cheeky wit and irreverence bring a consistent spark to the proceedings. The big, bad villains known as Ori are back as well. We still can't see them--they are, after all, "ascended beings," represented by the blind, monk-like Priors, who roam the universe intoning "Hallowed are the Ori" and ensuring that all will submit to their will (the element of scary religious fanaticism remains as relevant as ever). But the Ori are also still the most implacable, irresistible force our heroes have ever encountered; nothing less than the fate of the entire galaxy is at stake (again)! And now there's an added twist: the Ori have a frontwoman, if you will, whose powers make the Priors look like pikers. Known as Adria (or "the Orici" to believers), this beautiful young woman (played by Morena Baccarin) also happens to be the daughter of Vala, whom the Ori chose to bring their demon seed into the world; the uneasy (to say the least) Adria-Vala relationship provides many intriguing moments. On the minus side, the show tends to break its own rules (for instance, for a character who's supposed to be invincible, Adria often seems awfully, well, vincible), and the commingling of Arthurian legend, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian myth, magic, and other sources is occasionally over-the-top, even for this franchise. Some episodes are plot-heavy, bogged down by too many characters (past bad guys like the Goa'uld, and Ba'al reappear, as do severalStargate Atlantisprincipals in one episode) or excessive techno-rap about time dilation fields, flux capacitors, and something called the Clava Thessara Infinitas (don't ask). Episodes in which the writers move away from the central Ori theme are less than stellar; "200" exists mostly as an opportunity to make fun of the TV business and is as irrelevant and silly as "Citizen Joe," the worst episode from Season 8. And finally, without revealing details, suffice to say that "Unending," which offers a possible fate for our heroes before totally pulling its punches, may frustrate some longtime adherents. By and large, though,Stargate SG-1has all the elements--humor, action, great effects, good story-telling and acting, characters you care about--to more than justify its ten-year run. It will be missed. Special features are again bountiful, including audio commentary on all episodes, various featurettes, and five "directors series" entries devoted to particular episodes.--Sam Graham』

Although I did not care for the female investigator, I thought the vampire and police investigator were great. They made the series worth watching. The lady investigator was the most self centered, unyeilding character I have seen in a long time. By the end of the series I felt she got what she deserved.』
(my take on blood ties) 『I enjoyed the show but found the books much more satisfying. That is pretty common for me with most books turned to tv or movies. The characters and plot seem fairly well done, I understood the story line and could follow the characters actions and motivation. All together I would rate the show an eight on the ten scale.』
(Great Show That Ended Too Soon) 『The show needed allot of work but it was a precursor to all the vampire shows now airing. The acting was great and I really miss this not being on.』

So I'd like to give the Lifetime network zero stars for canceling this really well done show.
The casting for this show was really great. Kyle Schmid is one of our heart throbs now. And I think the woman who played the medical examiner is my all-time favorite medical examiner on TV. Christina Cox was also well chosen. I've read all the books and I think she makes a great Vicki.
The show itself was suspenseful and usually had comedic overtones that I enjoyed. This DVD set is well worth the price, even though there are only 9 episodes and no special features. That was a disappointment. But its all worth it to watch Henry, especially when he goes all vampire. They did his vampire teeth (and overall look) right. His canines and second incisors extend and his forehead does not get bumpy and his veins do not pop all out. Henry's vamp look is very sexy.』

This season made you know the show was here to stay and showed a slight, more mature change in the writing style (if memory serves), despite the show still being kind of like The Twilight Zone meets Superman.
Regardless, throwing into the mix someone outside the Kent family permanently knowing Clark's secret--well, things got a little more complicated for our favorite farmboy as he's now got the concern of "what if so-and-so spills the beans?"
What really made this season, of course, was the guest appearance by Christopher Reeve, who everyone in my generation knows as THE Superman, bar none. His role as Dr. Swann, who shows Clark his Kryptonian heritage, really brought a passing-of-the-torch moment to the show, cementing in Superman fans' heads that Tom Welling was indeed our new boy and--if anyone else out there is like me--makes you itch for Welling to one day put on the tights in a feature film (or seven).
I love the mythology episodes in this series and Season Two had enough to remind you that, yes, you were watching Superman and not just a show about a young man with developing superpowers.
Go watch this, then check out Season Three right after it. You know what? Go watch 'em all then follow Season Nine week-to-week like the rest of us. You won't be sorry.

(Plot holes galore) 『The 2nd installment of America's only weekly TV serial based on a comic book is full of major events, major characters and major themes. Clark starts to learn about his destiny, discovers the Kawatche caves, learns about his birthplace of Krypton, and finally hits it of with Lana. Likewise, Lionel Luthor discovers the mystery that is Clark Kent, Lex gets married - twice, and the Kent family shares its secret with Pete. So a very eventful season, and the makings of a great series. However, episode after episode is full of plot holes, to the point that many of the season's major events are just unbelievable. Here are some examples. 1) When Dr. Helen Bryce discovers her office has been vandalized, why does not she go look at the security footage of the hospital? it seems that she does not even bother to call the police. 2) When Clark goes to visit Dr. Swann, why does he need to say hello, and look around the museum in order to find Dr. Swann. Clark has x-ray vision, and knows how to use it. Why does he not just use his x-ray vision to locate Dr. Swann. 3) Lex Luthor is paranoid and constantly checks the background of every individual he deals with. How then does Chloe, a high school sophomore from a middle-class family, find information that he does not, in episode after episode. 4) Clark knows he is vulnerable to kryptonite, knows that it gives un-natural powers to those who encounter it, and knows that there are multiple sources of it in Smallville. Why does he not go out to look for it, in order to dispose of it, or neutralize it somehow. Clark is a studious student at Smallville High, so why not build a device to detect kryptonite at a farther distance then his body can feel it. 5) Why are Chloe and Pete not invited to Lex's wedding with Dr. Bryce? He invited everyone else in Smallville. 6) Maybe the biggest hole is Clark's secretiveness. He knows that Chloe, Lex, Lionel, and Lana are all curious about him. Why not make up an alibi to explain his powers, like he is a meteor freak. Smallville clearly has dozens of meteor freaks running around. Clark could have easily came up with a cover story, saying that he is meteor-infected and this gives him extra speed and strength. Tell this story to everyone to mask the fact that he is really an alien. 7) Why does Clark wait until the moment of Lex's wedding in order to put the kryptonite octagon into his ship? Why not do it earlier, and then go to the wedding? Or go to the wedding, and then deal with his ship?
And so on. Every episode is filled with plot holes. And the entire season is built on plot holes and illogical themes. All told, I'd say this is the worst Smallville season.』

(Smallville Season 2) 『I really liked Smallville Season 2. I thought it had a good plot and the writing was well done. It delved deeper into the mystery of Clark Kent and his roots which was enjoyable to watch. The only thing I could complain about is the "freak of the week" aspect of the show. Though some of them were alright to watch, others seemed to repeat the same theme over and over. But overall I think it was a good season and definetely worth watching.』

Clark Kent lives in Smallville, but in many ways he's out of this world - and so is this spectacular series that provides a fascinating spin on Superman lore. This 6-disc collection includes all 23 second-season episodes plus bonus materials worthy of a hero. Among the episode highlights: Clark grapples with his true calling. Is he on Earth to serve humanity or perhaps destroy it? Lex gets married - twice! Lana moves in with Chloe, adding a new dynamic to their Clark dilemma. Martha and Jonathan receive miraculous news. Lionel pulls devious strings. And Pete becomes a keeper of the Clark secret. One thing we can't keep secret: the legend grows stronger in Smallville!

』 『For many fans, the Superman revisionist seriesSmallvilletruly hit its stride in its second season, when it shifted focus from traditional comic book conflicts to one of self-discovery for its hero, a teenage Clark Kent (Tom Welling). Fans and first-timers can judge for themselves with this six-disc set, which compiles all 23 episodes and a decent selection of supplemental features. Whereas season 1 focused on Clark using his powers to combat a host of menacesà la the WB's other big fantasy hit,Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 2 delved into Clark's past and the extent of his super powers, most notably in the back-to-back "Heat," in which he discovers his heat vision, and "Red," in which red kryptonite in the high school class rings uncorks Clark's less-than-upstanding side. Other plot developments from the season that pull the series in interesting directions include the arrival of Dr. Helen Bryce (Emanuelle Vaugier), who becomes involved with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), but the season's most significant moment comes during episode 17, "Rosetta," in which Clark learns of his Kryptonian origins courtesy of a scientist, who, in an effective bit of casting, is played bySupermanfilm star Christopher Reeve.
The complexity of the writing and issues dealt with in season 2 markedSmallvilleas a series with depth and drama worthy of its considerable fan following as well as a second boxed set; fittingly, the supplements in this set are more expansive than on the first one. Producers Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Greg Beeman and cast members Welling, Rosenbaum, and Kristen Kreuk weigh in on commentary tracks for two episodes ("Red" and "Rosetta"), while a trio of short featurettes explore Christopher Reeves's appearance in "Rosetta," the show's visual effects, and the amusing "Wall of Weird" web page maintained by Chloe (Allison Mack). Not yet released Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Fun at the Smithsonian) 『I had the unique pleasure of watching this movie in the Smithsonian's IMAX theater. Perhaps it was the surroundings, but I found myself enjoying the movie quite a bit. It's got a great mix of action, romance, and comedy for both kids and adults. It's the type of movie that I hope Hollywood makes more of - decent movies that the whole family can enjoy without any sexual undertones.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian builds upon the last movie, Night at the Museum, but adds a host of new characters, from a power-driven Egyptian pharaoh to General Custer. The acting was pretty good all around, particularly Amy Adams' Amelia Earhart, who really came off as the stereotype 1920s female heroine. I've never been crazy about Ben Stiller, but he's pretty good here and his presence doesn't drown out the rest of the cast.
Overall, this is more a kid's movie than an adult comedy, but adults will probably enjoy watching it with their kids.
P.S. - I loved the cameo with Oscar the Grouch and Darth Vader!』
(A Bit Long&Loud) 『I went to see this followup of a really funny film precisely to see Lincoln move around. Up to that moment, we saw Teddy Roosevelt several times on his horse; that man was everywhere. Versatile Robin Williams was terrific in that part. Attila the Hun was interesting. George Custer was also interesting. The pharoah king had a lisp like Christine's. Does anyone know the key to happiness? The cache they were searching for on this particular night was in cartons at the museum in New York and not there at the Smithsonian building, but they would be stored underneath this D.C. mega divided up into lots of buildings. They turned up in the old brick one we all love to visit. Then, out to Lincoln's memorial and he stands up and turns around. That's worth the price of admission. Ben Stiller was great as in the first episode. He was funny as usual, more so than Robin Williams even. Great fun.』
(whimsical, silly and fun) 『Don't really remember what the movie was about but some of the characters did stick out. One question i have is why does KahMunRah sound like Boris Karloff, was it because of the character he played as Imhotep? I suppose nobody knows what an Egyptian pharaoh sounds like, but why not take a crack at it? Also why does the Roman centurion speak with a British dialect instead of a Latin dialect? This is a good kids movie and I think adults can find it amusing and entertaining so long as you don't ask too many questions.』

But when the Egyptian tablet that brings his friends to life is accidentally sent along to the Smithsonian, Larry has a whole new set of problems on his hands. With every exhibit in the Smithsonian museums and the archives below coming to life, Larry must enlist the aid of a spunky Amelia Earhart, a vain and grandiose General George Custer, and a bouncy pack of Einstein bobble-heads to save the day, and make everything right.
In NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 is a laugh out loud funny movie, full of some very creative action sequences. The museum exhibits still come to life, but this time they include famous paintings that you can jump into (reminiscent of Mary Poppins), pop art sculptures that chase you around, all manner of aircraft (from the Wright Brothers' first plane to a launching Apollo space craft), the gifts from the gift shop, and even a gigantic Abraham Lincoln from the Lincoln Memorial. Hank Azaria as the evil pharaoh and Amy Adams as a perky, independent Amelia Earhart are delightful additions to the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 cast, and Robin Williams is as charming as always Teddy Roosevelt. The special effects are pretty cool, and the jokes and slapstick keep on coming.
Is the story predictable? Yes. Did we care? No! NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN is a great family summer film. It won't change your life, but it will help you forget your troubles for a few hours and have some fun with your loved ones. The entire family will grin, giggle, and out-right guffaw, with several good, old fashioned belly-laughs thrown in. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN is an excellent way to spend a cozy popcorn evening together. And who knows, your kids might even learn a little history! 』
((2.5 STARS) No Better and No Worse Than the Original) 『Like every other big-budget Hollywood movie, "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" boasts of special effects made possible by computer graphics. Also, like every other sequel that is actually unnecessary, everything in "Battle of the Smithsonian" should be bigger than before. It is not surprising that producers have changed the setting of the story, this time the Smithsonian Institute, the world's largest museum complex.
After three years from the original Ben Stiller's Larry Daley, formerly a night guard of American Museum of Natural History, is now a successful businessman. When the tablet of Ahmunrah has been shipped to the Smithsonian Institute, however, Larry has to disguise himself as a guard and infiltrate the place.
The rambling narrative is bad enough, but the real problem is the lazy direction (director is Shawn Levy, "The Pink Panther") and uninteresting characters. What could have been a very unique experience (considering the vast collections of the Smithsonian Institute), is reduced to a set of half-hearted jokes and romance involving Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams, totally wasted).
The actors do their best and some of them are really funny. With the cast that includes Hank Azaria, Bill Hader, Ricky Gervais, Christopher Guest, Steve Coogan, Robin Williams and Owen Wilson, it is hard to make an absolutely unfunny movie. Sadly "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" has become one, well, almost.』 『History is larger than life—and twice as funny—in this monumental comedy sequel that’s “better than the original” (At the Movies)! Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast (including Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Hank Azaria and Robin Williams) as Larry Daley, a former night watchman at the Museum of Natural History, where theexhibits come to life after dark. But now Larry’s nocturnal friends are being retired to the archives of the Smithsonian Institution, luring him back for a hilarious, all-out battle against museum misfits who plan to take over the Smithsonian...and the world!

』 『Ben Stiller wrestles with extinct beasts, historical figures, and meddling monkeys inNight at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, the sequel to the popular 2006 special-effects extravaganza. This time, the ancient Egyptian tablet (the one that brings all the exhibits at New York's Museum of Natural History to life at night) is being shipped off to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.--which, as the movie diligently tells us, is the largest museum in the world. Naturally, former museum guard Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) heads down to rescue it (and, by extension, keep his magical museum friends alive). He ends up fighting with a nasty pharaoh who talks like Boris Karloff (Hank Azaria,The Simpsons) and falling in love with Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams,Enchanted). All the old gang are along for the ride, including Dexter the monkey; much face-slapping and special effects ensue. There aren't many surprises, butBattle of the Smithsonianis cheerful enough to entertain everyone who enjoyed the first movie. Extras include commentaries by the director and the writers, the usual self-congratulatory making-of featurette, deleted scenes that are actually as good as the rest of the movie, an alternate ending, and an entirely pointless second disc about Crystal, the capuchin monkey who plays Dexter (the monkey disc has less than a half-hour of material, including two mediocre games). The great supporting cast from the first movie returns, including Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, and Robin Williams.--Bret Fetzer

I just had to have the DVDs to watch my favorite episodes over again. I enjoyed the show for its mix of action and humor, for its quirkiness, for its enjoyable cast, and for its overall sci-fi goodness.
Now I'm waiting for the promised Stargate: Atlantis movie to come out so that I can buy it as well! ::taps foot impatiently::』
(Great series. More fun the second time around.) 『Great Sci Fi adventure series. I enjoy watching this run the 2nd time around and catching all of the story development.』
(SGA #2) 『SG-A S2 kicks Wraith a**.
Addition of Ronon is actually ok.
Subplot with Ford is a bit tedious. Why can they not nab the guy and reverse the effects of the "drug"?
All in all, an effective series that keeps the viewer interested.』

IfStargate Atlantisisn't the coolest sci-fi series on television, this five-disc, 20-episode box set from the second season (2005-06) offers ample evidence that it's right up there. The writing is good; the stories are intriguing, and the science part of the equation is credible enough to justify our suspension of disbelief. The characters are for the most part well-defined, and the acting, while perhaps not Emmy-caliber, is just fine. The action is exciting, the effects work impressive, the costumes and sets first-rate. But whatAtlantisreally has going for it is the presence of some of the baddest bad guys in the cosmos: the Wraith.
With their flowing white locks, cat-like eyes, pale, almost translucent skin, and teeth so bad they'd make the British blush, the Wraith rock. They also have a constant need to feed--on humans, of course--and are a serious threat not only to Atlantis but to the entire known universe, including good ol' Earth. And although there are occasional diversions, the producers and writers have wisely kept the focus on these implacable antagonists; in fact, the newest member of the team, one Ronon Dex (played by the dreadlocked and hunky Jason Momoa), is a "runner" who escaped the Wraith's clutches, was a fugitive for years before being found by our heroes, and specializes in dispatching the villains with cold precision. In the course of the season, via single episodes and several multi-parters, the Stargate team, commanded by Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson in the show's least interesting role) and led by insouciant Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), with genius-neurotic Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett) handling the scientific intricacies and yet another doc, Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion, affecting a Scottish brogue), overseeing medical matters, deals with the enemy on many fronts. Lt. Ford (Rainbow Sun Francks) defects after assuming Wraith-like characteristics. The team experiments with a "retrovirus" designed to turn Wraiths into humans (the results are decidedly mixed). They encounter a human who raised a Wraith female from childhood and insists she's just like us (she's not). They're captured and imprisoned on a Wraith "hive" ship. And in the final episode, the humans and the Wraiths even form an alliance of supposedly mutual convenience (the episode is a cliffhanger that awaits resolution until Season Three, but anyone who thought this "partnership" was a good idea for our side clearly hasn't been paying attention). As was the case with the Season One set, bonus materials are generous, including audio commentary (by actors, directors, and others) on every episode, various featurettes, photos, and more. Now if only there were a few Wraith interviews... --Sam Graham

(can't match the first two) 『The third season of what is one of my favorite shows, animated or live action, has truly let me down. The plot drags on from beginning to end, and even though it has it's funny parts, they didn't lighten the disappointment i felt after watching every episode. Honestly i can't suggest it to anyone considering i just want to forget it exists in the first place; which is mainly because the first two seasons were so good, but the fact remains the same.』
(The Venture Brothers Season 3) 『I'm a big fan of this show, this season is another hit just like the other two seasons before it. Amazon i found offers harder to find dvd's for less money just like this one.』
(Snarky, Sly, Funny) 『I'm guessing that since you're reading a review of Venture Brothers Season 3, you're already a fan of Seasons 1 and 2. This is more of the same grown-up and sophomoric in-your-head and laugh-out-loud entertainment, plus a few more back stories on the characters we've grown to know and love. Enough questions are left unanswered that you'll find yourself eagerly anticipating Season 4.』
(Venturtastic to the middle, then kinda "cliche", leading to the great explosive ending!) 『The design of this product continues the retro distressed style of the previous sets. It has great artwork on the outside and looks like an old video game. There is no credit for the artist, but I found out it was Bill Sienkiewicz who did this one and Season One's art (not sure about the Second Season). It looked familiar to me, but I tend to like to guess for a while instead of looking it up. Being into design, I feel the box should have opened top and bottom like an old video, maybe having a black and white info booklet, but maybe that would be too much money to make.
Inside, there isn't any information about what episodes have commentary and what the special features are. The artwork inside is of a real life Venture family playing video games. I am not sure about this. I almost panicked when I read about the "live action" stuff on Season One, not knowing it was a joke. It gets cliche that a series has to go to thinned out "let's get some more fans!" areas by making live action movies. I will be using the word cliche a lot in this review, so be aware.
The copy inside the DVD is more about Sgt. Hatred, one of my least favorite characters and how to fight him in the video game, yet he isn't even featured in the graphics before playing the episodes. I do like the 8 bit imagery, but I did like when the other two seasons started out with J. G. Thirlwell's music, which made me excited and happy to be viewing the show. I assume the 8 bit stuff has to do with MUTHER, but it was only featured in one episode. Stg. Hatred didn't seem too prominent in Season Three either, or at least, didn't stick out to me.
What brings this down a star for me is that the Blu-Ray version of this has the J. G. Thirlwell soundtrack in it, but the regular DVD doesn't. It's a little hard to swallow some of Adult Swim's merchandizing tactics, like their Katze im Sack grouping of plastic figurines, but I wish I would have gotten the soundtrack with it. I would have bought it on LP anyway and it feels like the people who don't want to spring for a Blu-Ray player are out in the cold.
The season itself is hot and cold. It starts out the gate with the cliffhanger which is then never explained. That's amusing! It jumps into episodes with the Monarch and Dr. Monarch's Wife. In the Venture World, everything is done by the books, so both heroes and their arch enemies have to file paperwork in order to do anything, like normal life. Contracts, notes, reports, filling out applications. Then it goes into a Rusty Venture Boys' Club episode think is one of the better ones. I tend to want to buy these on DVD, instead of watching them on TV or online, so I can see details of the graphics and written papers of the show clearly. Like the notes on the back of people as they try to guess the famous person they are at the supervillain party.
A few of the episodes, especially towards the middle, tend to be very bare bones. Like a lot less of the main characters, maybe 3 people doing all the voices, main people missing, etc. This makes it not as strong as the other seasons. My problem was that since I never follow things closely enough to know when new shows are coming up, I leaped into watching the 3rd season midway through. The writing wasn't up to the high standard I give the Venture Brothers. Like the historical or odd music references were down to one or two an episode. Plus, some words would repeat, especially my favorite "This is so cliche" and it was said so much during 3-4 middle episodes that it itself became a cliche. See I told you I would use it again. It is so cliche!
Just as my ears were done burning from that and some other overused phrases, swearing not being part of it, the quality came back. Speaking of swearing, I am happy as a two tailed pup over the lack of censorship to this DVD set. Now I get to see all of Jonas Venture, maybe way too much. There seems to be a lot of male nudity in this season, but next to no female nudity. Since I am a woman, it's almost welcome. See, I am going back to the Rusty Venture/Henry Killinger episode that had a lot of psychology and getting over demons.
Ah, the middle. I was beginning to think the series was getting to be too normal, the two episodes before The Orb being half-hearted to me. But then the Orb is one of my favorites. It goes back into the barrage of pop to obscure references, especially people like Crowley and Wilde in their own Venture type League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and it has the only line it the show I bothered to memorize, except "Nice shot, William Burroughs" from season two and that was "Rusty Venture, brought to you...by smoking!" and there's a nice graphic of Venture cigarettes. The graphics of that and some episodes are really what brings a joke around to me. I am a tiny bit disappointed that the ending credits are so streamlined this year. The font is very simple. I don't know what happened to the design there, I was hoping for amazing graphics.
The last two episodes are really great and bring the Venture Brothers back to the high note they were on in the last two seasons. With that turn, I will watch the next season, though I am trying to stay away from any information on it. I like the season to speak for itself without me knowing anything about it. I think 24 might be dead. Or 21, I always get them messed up. Maybe that cliche thing was built up to have you be surprised the henchman that never get killed will get killed in the end, not sure.
I'm hoping Season Four keeps up to the standard from the end of Season Three. I have read some reviews that this show has content that they can't show their kids. I don't have kids, so I don't care, but I feel if they toned it down so that it was 14 and up, it would lose its charm. Who wants to watch a show that has to change itself so that tweens can watch it? Don't they have enough to watch? I think it should get more and more obscure and subversive, so it's more of a joyride.
If the creators quit the Town Called Malice and Gore Vidal jokes, it would be like every other cartoon show. It would have just gross out humor and lose its wit. I noticed even the music was even in the background and not as strong as it once was. It doesn't jump out much or crescendo and I think I only heard the Dr. Orpheus theme a few times. The Dr. and his daughter seem painfully absent in this season too, replaced with characters like Dermott, that didn't resonate with me as much. Though I did like HELPER doing the drum work in the scene where Hank, Dermott and the robot are trying to make music.
This season is recommended by me, only if you watch the other seasons first. I feel the first two seasons could be watched show to show, but now, it is a bit plot heavy. I liked the complicated plot lines though. The more complicated the better.』 『"Dig deeper into the world of Venture with Season 3, a rich tapestry of past and present, cause and effect, unitards and bodystockings. Witness the genesis of villainous personae, the clash of sporadically opposing forces, and the birth of debilitating neuroses in this, the sturmiest, most drangful season yet. "』
