(The XFiles Season 7 Review)
『Product came in good time and in great condition. The price wasn't bad either. Thanks for a great transaction!』

(X-Files Season 7)
『If you've liked all the other seasons of X-Files, then of course you'll like this one. Lots of good 'to be continued' episodes, and one where "Cops" and X-files come together for some interesting one-liners! Unforgettable. There's even a crazy video game episode where Scully embraces her inner gamer girl and kicks some serious butt.』

(Great Season)
『As usual the writing and acting was superb. I particularly liked the episode in which Gillian directed and wrote. A real interesting perspective. Like others have said the series could have ended with this season yet I am glad it didn't. The neat part about the X-files is that its a series in which the characters use technology, cell phones video conferencing etc. All that was starting and was real cutting edge back then and nobody else was doing it.』

(Great season...Big Fan of the series)
『This is one of three that I need to complete the entire set. I love the series!』

(X-Files Season 7)
『I've been a fan of the show since the beginning. Season 7 is definitely my favorite season because they focus on so many of the mythology themes and also the personal lives of the characters.』

(Love the series, abhor the packaging (Low star rating for packaging))
『Is it me, or the have packaging issues become a reoccurring motif? I only wanted to get the thinkpak for two reasons:
1.) Storage space (I have the original box set, and it takes up too much space)
2.) Getting the Threads 90min extended episode version

Unfortunately, the box arrived with damaged (and ripped) sides, and the DVDs were sliding around inside the cases (indicating two possibilities: A - Discs just fell off the fasteners; or B - The fasteners were broken, meaning the cases are defective).
The good part was the discs just fell out of their placeholders, and thankfully were not damaged during transit.

Also, I was hoping to get the 90min version of Treads, but I got the syndicated version.
I'm wondering if getting the extended (originally 90min aired version, not 60min syndicated version) actually exists anymore?』

『great way to see jack go.

awesome anyway, because its sg-1 , duh.』

(Loved it!)
『We own every season of Stargate, and we really loved this one, just like the others. I think seasons 7&8 tied a lot of loose ends up, and therefore answered some questions that had been left hanging. Overall very happy with this season.』

(They're all awesome so far...)
『Of course it was still better with Hammond and O'Neil as an SG1 member and not a general, but the plots are still interesting and engaging.』

(More for the retailer...Some wear was an understatement!!)
『Box looked like it had sat in an open window for a year before being shippied to me...water and UV damage to the box was extensive...Discs look fine though.』
『STARGATE SG-1 DVD:8TH SSN V1: Episode #8.1: New Order Part 1 - When Carter and Teal'c fly to the Asgard world of Hala in hopes of finding a way to revive O'Neill, they are attacked by Replicators, who take Carter prisoner. Meanwhile, Dr. Weir and Daniel Jackson attempt to negotiate a treaty with Goa'uld System Lords who wish to unite against a common enemy. Episode #8.2: New Order Part 2 - The Goa'uld send a mothership to Earth, demanding that it prove its superior defenses. As Dr. Weir applies her most expert diplomatic tactics, Daniel and the still unconscious body of Colonel O'Neill are unexpectedly beamed aboard Thor's ship, where Thor tries to access the knowledge of the Ancients. Episode #8.3: Lock Down - When Jackson contracts a mysterious illness from a Russian colonel, O'Neill is convinced that a contagion has infected the base and orders a lockdown. But when Jackson reveals that he was actually possessed by Anubis, who is now loose on the base, O'Neill must discover the identity of the new host! Episode #8.4: Zero Hour - O'Neill finds his plate full with a visit from the president and negotiations between two warring tribes from the planet Amra. But when SG-1 is captured by a Goa'uld System Lord and he's forced to choose between the safety of the team and the fate of an entire planet, O'Neill begins to question his competency!』
『The beat goes on forStargate SG-1in this five-disc set containing all 20 episodes from the show's eighth season. If that beat is now a bit more faint than in previous years, that's not particularly surprising when a franchise has been around this long; what's more, if Season 8 has some fairly odd aspects to it ("Threads," which appears to have been planned as the final episode of the entire series, is followed by two more in this set alone… not to mention an unexpected renewal that led to an all-new Season 9), that too isn't exactly unusual in the wacky world of series television.

Some significant changes are apparent in Season 8. Jack O'Neill (series star Richard Dean Anderson) has been promoted to Brigadier General and is now top dog (as he puts it, the guy who "spent my whole life stickin' it to the man" nowisthe man). The existence of the stargate, an artificially created "wormhole" through which one can instantly travel to different worlds light years away from Earth, is no longer a well-guarded secret. And Stargate Command itself now exists primarily to "develop new weapons and technologies to defend the planet" from our various alien antagonists--principally the "Replicators," relentless little bug-machines poised to take over not only Earth but the entire galaxy.

The rest of the SG-1 core cast (Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Michael Shanks) is intact. But whereas Anderson, who has steadily reduced his role in the show, wasn't much missed in Season 7, one wishes there were more of him this time around; O'Neill's general insouciance and aversion to techno-speak are a welcome antidote to the kind of sci-fi gobbledygook (discussions about "a time dilation field on the planet Hala" and such) that now threatens to take precedence over the action and fine special effects that distinguished earlier seasons. Most of all, while there are still all manner of villains (Anubis, Ba'al, the ever-present Goa'uld) to contend with, as well as a few good guys (the Asgard, the rebel Jaffa) to help our heroes fight the good fight,Stargate SG-1's writers and creators may be running out of steam. Hence we get an episode like the very peculiar "Citizen Joe," featuring Dan Castellaneta as an average guy who sees "visions" (i.e., clips from past episodes) of the SG-1 team in action and becomes obsessed with proving that the whole stargate project really exists; an uneasy combination of self-parody and self-congratulation, this episode, while not unamusing, sticks out like a sore thumb.

Bonus features include audio commentary (mostly by the various directors) on 19 of the 20 episodes, along with photo galleries and one featurette per disc. --Sam Graham

(The Greatest Superhero Film Of Our Time.)
『When is a movie more than a movie? When it can transcend the very genre it's in and becomes an event, something that can cause people to think, to talk, to debate, to embrace it so much you feel you need to see it again and again because you feel you missed something the other ten times you saw it.
"Gone with the Wind", "The Wizard of Oz", "Star Wars", "The Lord of the Rings" films....all great event films. Add Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" to this list.
As a lifelong fan of comic book superheroes, there are quite a few that i've taken to my heart: Superman, Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, X-Men,the Hulk, etc, etc. I've always loved Batman. Even through the numerous comics, which i still read to this day, the cartoons, even the campy 60s tv series, as well Tim Burton's great, dark reimagining of the mythos in the late 80s, Batman remains one of my all-time favorites.
What Nolan has created with "The Dark Knight" cant truly be put into a few, simple sentences. Impossible. This film is one of the few true definitions of a masterpiece. It's intelligent, cold, unrelenting, extremely dark and at times disturbing and it's these adjectives that, for me, make it perfect.
In the brilliant "Batman Begins", Nolan dissected and broke down the origin of The DC Comics vigilante, giving us a glimpse of the very twisted, emotional elements that drove one man to assume the identity of a creature of the night. He presented this as a character study of a man, seemingly normal on the outside, with wealth, power, and influence, yet tortured, driven, disturbed, trying to find a way to unleash his demons upon those who live to choose to break the law and destroy the moral fabric of "society".
In "The Dark Knight", we go a few levels further....into the very bowels of HELL. This time, Batman struggles not just with the questionable choices he has made to protect Gotham City, with many people divided over how they feel about his presence, he also must face a new criminal who spreads anarchy and uncontrolled chaos all over town, the Joker.
Now, we all know much has been written and said about the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker....BUT HE'S SOOOO GODDAMN BRILLIANT!!!! This is the Joker the way he should be portrayed. As much as i loved Jack Nicholson's Joker from Burton's '89 film, hes a punk compared to what Ledger created. Ledger's Joker is cold, calculating evil in its purest form....a man so unfeeling, so depraved, so demonic...he doesnt commit crimes for reward, notoriety, or what we'd consider intimate pleasure; he does because he simply wants to, plain and simple. He sees the world as a place to be broken and manipulated, consequences be damned. Scary, aint it? Think of the killers of Columbine, or V-Tech, even the Unabomber. Even Satan. No conscience. Evil for evil. Ledger won a very deserved posthumous Oscar for his work.
The great Christian Bale is the ultimate Batman for our time. Driven, dark, cold-blooded but not without a sense of honor. He digs deeper into the psychology of Bruce Wayne, creating a portrait of someone fighting a war he might never win, a war that creates more demons and more pain than he can stop, yet doesnt give in to the monsters he opposes. Bale and Ledger are magnificent together.
As great as they are, its the supporting performances that help them shine. Overall, theres not a bad performance from anyone, AT ALL. Only the best caliber of actors dominate this film. Gary Oldman's Detective James Gordon is a picture of powerful moral conviction and simple passion as he stands by Batman in the fight against crime; Michael Caine's Alfred is the deep, fatherly, yet caring voice of no-nonsense reason to Wayne/Batman; Maggie Gyllenhall makes a more intense Rachel Dawes than Katie Holmes; Morgan Freeman is dignity personified as Lucius Fox. Special mention should be made, though, for Aaron Eckhart, who plays D.A. Harvey Dent/Two Face. Like Batman and Gordon, he wants to wipe out crime in Gotham City, yet he suffers from a fatal flaw: he's idealistic. Its this flaw that the Joker will exploit and twist and ultimately damage, and it leads to Dent becoming Two Face, a scarred, deranged, hopeless man broken and twisted almost as much the Joker himself.
There are no easy answers in this film, with its nihilistic view of good and evil and how sometimes, even good men can be pushed to their moral limits. Thats what i loved about this film. Nothing is simple, nothing is easy, and isnt that the way life is? Films about superheroes are a mixed breed: some are great, some not. I love the original Superman w/Christopher Reeve, and Spiderman, and Bryan Singer's X-Men, yet "Dark Knight" is, to me, the epic for our troubled times. Intelligent, huge, well written and acted. Director Christopher Nolan takes his place among the newest generation of filmmakers who dont treat their audiences like simple-minded children. A powerful film from a powerful visionary.』

(Brilliance)
『I cannot say enough about the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan. The combination of the acting, mise-en-scen, and cinematography all amalgamate to provide the viewer with spectacular artistic images, excellent portrayals of characteristic ideologies, and as well as a thrilling psychological plot.
The acting led by Christian Bale and Heath Ledger is only to be followed by an outstanding all star cast including Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Aaron Eckhart. Bale continues his role as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman for the second time after his initial success in Batman Begins. No matter how great of a performance Christian Bale put out there for the audience, his acting will forever be overshadowed by that of Heath Ledger who died shortly after the making of the film, and thus this movie will forever be known as "the role that killed Heath." Christopher Nolan and Heath worked tremendously together capturing the essence of the half serial killer, half chaotic sociopath adding tremendous depth and complexity to the Joker not seen in the original comics. The only weak point in this cast in my opinion was Maggie Gyllenhaal who replaced Katie Holmes from the previous film. She looked old and out of touch with the whole Bruce Wayne and Rachael Dawes typical comic love affair, but simply their chemistry on stage did not coincide.
The Mise-en-scen of The Dark Knight refers to everything on stage (the props, sets, costumes, and acting), and was mainly the brainchild of Nolan's brilliant thinking. Combined with the cinematography or how the movie was filmed (lighting, camera angles, camera movement, etc.) Nolan creates stunning visuals for the two and a half hour saga of good against evil. The film itself contains many long shots and astonishing background and inversion camera clippings creating stunning visuals on the big screen. The set seems to be jammed packed with props and intricate details that the viewer can really appreciate. Many resent the fact that it is over one hundred and fifty minutes long, but actually on the contrary I believe it adds to the overall suspense and to be frank any shorter of the movie would undoubtedly fail to do justice to the actors and plot of the film.
In conclusion the viewer should buy this movie for the action scenes, excellent examples of great directing, an all -star cast, not to mention the fact that it was Heath Ledger's last film ever.』

(Beyond what I expected)
『Knowning all the hype that was put out about this movie had me very very concerned. Due to, from past experience, the lack of substance that a movie will have once completed and in theaters. More times than not a movie with such over hype usually is just a way for studios to try to gain money from the audeince who doesn't know any better and once it is seen it falls away into oblivian. That was my concern about this movie. That it would suck so bad that it completely destory Batman as a comic book character that has been around since the early 20th century. Just because studios think that the masses are just dumb sheep who will make a hit out of a movie just because of a lot of advertising was put behind it.

However, I was pleasantly proven wrong about this movie. What Christpher Nolan did with Batman Begins he built upon in this one. We see a city still in dispair to the point of breaking. Yet there is hope on the streets and fear starting emerge in the hearts of criminals, all because of Batman. Along comes the Joker. He is a sucidal maniac who wants to prove to the world that it sits on a thin thread between chaos and order. Thinking that most of society, at its heart, is chaotic is oout to take down the only thing standing between him and complete anarchy, Batman. To take down the Joker and his diabolical plans Batman, LT. Gordon, and newly appointed D.A. Harvey Dent team up. Although, the heroes of this story try to take down the Joker through moral ways he makes it very difficult for them to make the right decision and become a symbol of hope for the city of Gotham.

In the end the movie blew me away and then some. The script was well written. The movie was well acted by everyone included. And the moral choices that the characters had to make pushed comic book heroes into the real life that everyone can identify with.』

(Bats in the belfry)

A botched ending ruins an otherwise fine film that was shaping up to be even better than Batman Begins and one of the best action films of recent years. So how come 2 and not 4 stars? Unfortunately the botch-up hits the movie like an iceberg to the Titanic and substantially undoes all the brilliant build-up work that precedes it.

The movie is filled with the good guys making one tough choice after another, in the face of a terrifying new evil, as one excellent set-piece and set-up follows another in a complex, logical and satisfying manner. The movies length is more than justified by the unfolding of the whole complex series of moral dilemmas and their interesting resolutions. All that is, until the extremely clumsy and laughable resolution at the very end. The grand climax, the big payola is an execrable damp squib. If the people of Gotham, and even her criminals, can pass their moral tests on the boats, how come Gordon and Batman make such a ham's fist of something so simple as telling the people the truth? The Joker's has been captured, but sadly Dent was sent over the edge by the Joker's mad schemes. Surely the truth was the best fortification for Gotham's soul against future attacks by the Joker? What on earth are Gordon and Batman thinking when they hastily arrange a cover-up? Is Dent's reputation more important than the truth that he cracked under the demented pressure of the Joker?

This is not a minor mis-step, a 'dark', 'bad' or 'mistaken' choice by Batman and Gordon. It is an absolute howler by the scriptwriters. After 150 minutes of brilliant mayhem Gotham has the Joker by the balls. Gordon and Batman simply have to the pull the trigger. Instead they contrive to lie to the public, magnify the Joker's evil persona and make a complete mockery of all the brilliant moral posturing that has preceded them. A potentially great film, has been reduced to a pile of dreary and incoherent mush, by a few moments of madness. Listening to Gordon spew great wads of philosophical drivel to try to justify the botched ending is a minor masterpiece-of-disaster in itself.

Comics are never heavy on philosophy, although they are usually heavy on the posturing. What was so giddyingly exciting about this movie was that it threatened to raise the level of intelligence and wit of a comic-book adaptation several notches higher than most adaptations, not on the stylistic front, where thay nearly all score heavily, but on the thinking front, in this case with a brilliant series of moral dilemma traps set by the nutty Joker for his protagonists to solve and resolve. Dent fails, the people win, Caine and Freeman ain't playing so they can afford to look on knowingly, Dent's girl gets at least a pass for her efforts, so how come the two most important guys are so completely let-down by the script?

Make no mistake - this is not a 'dark' ending, it is an extremely poor one, one that completely flattens the whole point of the exercise. Which is extremely sad and horribly anti-climactic, because nearly everything else is zingingly on-point. Bale, Caine, Eckhart, of course Ledger - everyone does a fine job, the plot is both intricate and interesting, the action is just fine and once again, director Nolan does a grand job of bringing the comic-book Batman to life on the big-screen.

I think everyone was so desperate for this to be a great film, that they have allowed themselves to get all confused about the meaning and motive of the characters, plot and details, and so have contributed to the excessive hype - nearly all of it justified with respect to the first two hours of the movie, nearly all of it coompletely missing the point with respect to the ending and resolution of the movie. It is a sad day, when bamboozled by media hype and enormously loud special effects, the majority of the public are no longer able to accurately judge what does and does not constitue a great film.

(A Nearly Three Hour Speech)
『Mention character study as a reason to watch a movie to me, and you have just counterproducted yourself. When you say character study, I often say people study. Unlike some movie fans, I try my best to say grounded with reality, trying very hard not get impressed by every character on the screen as much as possible, getting to know (or observing) interesting people, getting into interesting experiences situations by myself, basically, all things real life. That doesn't mean I dislike a character study. Even though plot, film making, characters are crucial in making a movie complete. Interesting characters really can make a movie all that better. Oh who am I kidding? Bland characters can kill a movie. Just ask Roland Emmerich, as his characters are so bland that all the special effects in the world can't make a great movie (although, surprise surprise, his later).

Characters in movies are a peculiar thing. Some of them can be memorable, easy to love, identify, and let you watch and believe it, feeling everything the character is, loving or hating the person on screen. Even sometimes, the actors can make a character that isn't totally unique fall into this catergory. On the flip side, so many characters in movies are so "real" that watching them makes you wonder why the hell your even watching these personalities on the screen. So much that you realize that you aren't living a life of your own at all. Chances are, they don't have much plot revolving around them either.

The Dark Knight is being touted as the most realistic and intelligent comic book movie ever, a label that has so much laughable baggage in it. Basically, I see the whole Batman and DC comic label a gimmick. The story is not that interesting underneath, there is no atmosphere, the characters are not that interesting, the themes are't that original, and everything is ANALYZED to death (Nostalgia Critic hit the nail on what he meant about that). The Nostalgia Critic was right about what he said about analyzed, as everything is talked about at length. And many of the speeches aren't even that original. When the Joker is talking about how civiled people turn into animals, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? It something that was told in Lord of the Flies, nay, Freud's concept of the id, ego, and supergo already. And Freud's concept says a lot more in less tedious ways.

So who are the characters? Yes, the Joker is all about anarchy and chaos, but so are many other people. Sure, none have been close to taking over a city, but I think that most can figure out that anarchy can get out of hand. Frankly, seeing it really isn't that interesting. The Joker also really doesn't resemble the comic books as much as he should. When drawn, the Joker looks INSANE, crazy, and loony. I remember how much I used to shake at the sight of such pictures as Batman: The Man Who Laughs. Heath Ledger's joker look still doesn't do that much for me. And forget his . Jack Nicholson's is a litte more fun, and since Heath doesn't scare me that much, Nicholson's cartoony edge makes him more fun to watch.

The Dark Knight, however, is not a bad movie. Christopher Nolan is a great director, the acting is stellar, the music is great, basically, the technical aspects are excellent. The action scenes are exciting, as well as some great scenes that I liked scattered about. I also loved the Batmobile and the batbike, watching his costumes, and Heath Ledger's brillaint scene with his hostage. It wasn't exactly scary, but I could only imagine the silence that followed in the theater after it. Also, Two-Face was the best incarnation of the villian, considering that the first incarnation of the villian, well nevermind. Gary Oldman also was a much better Detective Gordon, simply because how well he sinks into the role. Oldman can sink into anything.

Yes, I do like Tim Burton's Batman series better, but that's not why I am rating this as an average movie. Rather everything else above makes it average. While this is miles better than the Joel Schumacher movies (Ya think?), it's touted "realism" is third person, which really hampers the movie since it has absolutely nothing to really offer besides that, a character study. Did I enjoy it? Sure. However, I expected a whole lot more, and The Dark Knight would probably not even got if it wasn't bagged as a comic book movie (ugh), no less known as a Batman movie.』

『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 12/09/2008 Run time: 151 minutes Rating: Pg13』
The Dark Knightarrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimedBatman Beginswith an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies likeSpider-Man 2andIron Manbecause of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knightis a film for the ages.--David Horiuchi

(Review of Casper Movie)
『I was very satisfied with both the condition and the timing in which I received the Casper Special Education DVD. No complaints here!』

(Casper)
『I have grown up with this movie. It is an all time favorite of mine and I recommend this to absolutely everyone! Christina Ricci is adorable in this and Devon Sawas cameo as real life Casper is sweet!』

(A fun movie on DVD!)

In a small town in Main there is a legendary mansion called "Whipstaff Manor" which is rumored to be haunted by spirits yet it's true. a Lonely friendly ghost named Casper (Voiced by Malachi Pearson) is in need of a friend yet somehow doesn't seem to be making friends and his three mean uncles named Stinky (Voiced by Joe Alansky), Stretch (Voiced by Joe Nipote) and Fatso (Voiced by Brad Garret) loves scaring off intruders. A paranormalist named Dr. Harvey (Bill Pullman) and lovely daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) moved into the mansion for a new home and for studying on the paranormal as they don't know what to expect as Casper befriends them while the uncles want them out of the house.

Exciting, funny and well done adaptation of the popular Harvey comics! Directed by "City of Angels" director Brad Silberling, written by Animaniacs/Tiny Toons writer Sherri Stoner and produced by Steven Spielberg is definitely good fun for adults and kids. The special effects by Industrial Light and Magic are terrific and the film does co-star Cathy Moriartiy with Eric Idle and appearences by some famed stars including Dan Ackroyd. There is some emotional moments like the climax and of course good laughs abound, it's a nice hit movie for everyone.

This DVD contains a great widescreen picture remastering with extras like audio commentary, games, interviews, featurettes, Halloween tips, Deleted scenes, Talent Bios, and an episode of the 50's cartoon classic.』

『I had forgotten just how good this movie was. My grand daughter saw my old VHS tape box, so up dated to DVD and all three of my grand daughters love it. I must be getting old, I like it too.』

『I had this movie from when my children were little on VHS. So now that I have a DVD player I need a copy for my grandchildren. Great Movie!! My grandchildren watched 3 x the first day.』
『Steven Spielberg produced this live-action feature starring the friendly ghost created in 1940 by Joe Orolio. In it, greedy heiress Carrigan Crittenden inherits the haunted Whipstaff Manor and discovers that the house contains a treasure, which is closely guarded by three nasty ghosts. She invites ghost therapist Dr. James Harvey, and his daughter Kat, to move into the eerie mansion and get rid of the supernatural creatures. The nephew of the three spirits is Casper, a friendly ghost who becomes Kat's pal. Casper takes Kat to his father's secret lab where he once attempted to bring Casper back to life with a special machine. Carrigan eavesdrops on their conversation and decides to become a ghost herself, in the hope that she will get the booty more easily. Then she can use the machine to change back to a human. However, Carrigan doesn't realize that you can't flirt with the afterlife.』
『This 1995 family film tries to put a fun spin on the story of a paranormalist and widower (Bill Pullman) who moves into a new house with his daughter (Christina Ricci) and meets up with the ghost of a dead little boy. Based on the comic book about Casper the friendly ghost, the film is a dreary series of awkward interactions between live actors and computer effects, and you can almost see Pullman and Ricci reconsidering the project while on camera. A few cameo appearances from uncredited stars help things a bit. But there's no way, based on this film, that one could have guessed that its director, Brad Silberling, would go on to make the exceptional dramaCity of Angels.--Tom Keogh

(Back in the Day.)
『What can I say about this. Its Buck Rogers in the 25th century, the show that ran on NBC on Thursday at 8pm in the late 70's. If you were a kid at the time and a fan. This show rocked but doesn't really hold up to time. Erin Grey is super Hot and kicked butt, took names. Gil Gerard was a ladies lady and man of action. Don't get me wrong I'm glad I bought it because something this cheesey could not be made today. Buck would have to have abandonment issues, and maybe a drinking problem. There was have to be some political element to the show but back in the 70's Buck was just a man's man's who liked to boogie, liked the ladies and the ladies liked him. Its the whole 2 season on dual layer discs, no extra features but yes the theatrical release of the pilot is there and so is Hawk the alien who descended from birds ( it was the lack of hair which were replaced by feathers that told you that )and had a cool hawk ship with cool hawk claws and hawk vision.

So if you remember it and liked it. Get it, its a trip. If not I'll not tell you don't do it but just beware this was the 70's Computer FX was something for expensive movies and TV budgets were small.』

(Nostalgic)
『HAHA...I am very glad I bought this DVD set. I love Science Fiction and loved this show when it aired. I had just forgotten how it ended...which it didn't. Now, I am wishing they would've or still would make an ending for the series.』

(Finally on DVD! However...)
『All I can say that it is about time!!! Ever since the TV studios decided to put the actual seasonal TV shows on DVD (Something that was impossible with the VHS era. I kept asking and begging the ultimate question. When is BUCK ROGERS coming to DVD? Well the wait was finally over and I did not care about the price I was willing to pay it. That is how much of a fan I was. The cool thing is that all of the shows uncut and unedited just like the way NBC aired it the first time. The episode FLIGHT OF THE WAR WITCH took me by surprise though. The opening intro was very different and I gave it two thumbs up with a woohoo yell.

Now there is a down side. I was disappointed with two things. One, they should have included the TV Pilot version that had almost 10 minutes of extra footage and two they should have put a ton of special features with behind the scenes footage with interviews of the cast and crew Then&Now』

(Buck Rogers in the 1980s)
『My wife and I have been watching these episodes, sometimes as many as three in one day. We both watched this show when it was first run, but neither of us have seen it since then.

It is a great view of the future that never was. It is good to see a 1980's view of the future. The hair, clothing, buildings are lots of fun.

Many of the actors are familiar from other science fiction shows, Sam Jaffe appears as a wise leader of a planet. This series is not serious science fiction but it is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

(another trip down memory lane)
『I enjoy seeing some of my favorite tv series, and this one was a delight for me. I can't account for how others may feel about it, but I enjoyed the ride.』
『Movie DVD』
『With its campy combination of lightweight adventure and Spandex disco chic,Buck Rogers in the 25th Centuryis a nostalgic throwback to post-Star Warsopportunism. Series co-creator Glen A. Larson was incapable of originality, and former soap star Gil Gerard (in the title role) was a bland incarnation of the comic-strip hero, so the much-anticipated series premiered on September 20, 1979, with serious disadvantages. Although the two-hour pilot "Awakening" had tested successfully as a theatrical release, Gerard and the show's producers could never agree on a stable tone for the series, which presents Capt. William "Buck" Rogers as a jovial space cowboy who is accidentally time-warped from 1987 to 2491. Earth is engaged in interplanetary war following a global holocaust, and Buck's piloting skills make him an ideal starfighter recruit for the Earth Defense Directorate, where his closest colleagues are Dr. Huer (Tim O'Connor), squadron leader Col. Wilma Deering (former model Erin Gray, looking oh-so-foxy), the wisecracking robot Twiki (voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc), and a portable computer-brain named Dr. Theopolis, who's carried by Twiki like oversized bling-bling.

The series struggled through an awkward first season, with routine plots elevated by decent special effects and noteworthy guest stars including Jamie Lee Curtis, ill-fatedPlayboyPlaymate Dorothy Stratten (appearing, with her voice dubbed over, less than a year before her tragic murder),Batmanalumnus Julie Newmar, Buster Crabbe (veteran of vintageBuck Rogersmovie serials), and several others in a show that favored vamps and vixens over credible science fiction. A full-scale overhaul resulted in a disastrous second season, but devoted fans still gravitate to Hawk (Thom Christopher), the charismatic alien "birdman" who was introduced with new characters and a new, space-faring search for lost tribes from Earth (with echoes of Larson's ownBattlestar Galactica). Behind-the-scenes squabbles continued, and by mid-season of 1981, NBC pulled the plug on a breezy, still-engaging series that suffered from uneasy chemistry and never realized its full potential. Existing somewhere betweenGalacticaandLost in Spacein the TV sci-fi food chain, thisBuck--with a dearth of DVD extras--now functions as a cheesy stroll down memory lane.--Jeff Shannon

(A film and novel better than Twilight!)

I am writing this review to remind people there are better works of supernatural romance out there than Twilight. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is one such example. The novel was written in 1945 and then adapted into a film with George Sanders and later a TV series.

The ghost and Mrs. Muir tells the story of a young widow, Lucy Muir who has decided she wants to break away from the control of her over-bearing and dominating in-laws. Already by this point the feminism and strength of the protagonist of the 1945 novel exceeds that of the more modern supernatural romance Twilight. When Lucy Muir finds a house to her liking she discovers very quickly that it is haunted by a very vocal spectre of an old sea captain by the name of Captain Daniel Gregg.
The ghost of Captain Daniel Gregg is one of my three favourite fiction ghosts. The list consists of Captain Daniel Gregg of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Sir Simon de Canterville from The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde and Hrothbert of Bainbridge AKA Bob from the short lived television series adaptation of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (Hrothbert of Bainbridge doesn't exist in the actual Dresden Files novels).
Despite the ghost's seeming misogyny Lucy and the captain develop a quirky and strangely affectionate relationship. For all of his roughness and snark the captain is actually a gentleman inside. The character portrayals are realistic and very human unlike the protagonists of Twilight in which the characters are two dimensional archetypes to appeal to a shallow demographic.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir isn't just a sweet romance. It also has a running wit and humour completely lacking in most modern romances. It seems today all attempts at humour in romance become self-parodies. There's more to the story than just fluff. It's about taking control of your own life, standing up for yourself, independence, love and moving on, the power of love and friendship, and the value of love, life and family (no matter how unusual the definition might be) all told with excellent wit and humour.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is highly underrated. It deserves more attention. It is a brilliant story far ahead of it's time. I actually wish there would be a new film adaptation of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, not because I think there is anything wrong with the first film adaptation, but because I think a new generation should be introduced to good supernatural romantic fiction and opposed to what is currently trendy and sadly many of the current generation won't watch a black and white film or read a novel more than twenty years old because they make negative assumptions about the content such as assuming it would be out dated, stuffy, cheesy or hard to follow. The ghost and Mrs. Muir is none of these things. It's a head of the curb and I certainly would rather re-read The ghost and Mrs. Muir than Twilight. Thanks to Terrence Mann's portrayal of Hrothbert of Bainbridge in the short lived Dresden Files TV series I can completely see him as Captain Daniel Gregg if there was a new film version to be made.

I strongly recommend The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (film or book) to anyone interested in supernatural romance, ghost stories, dry wit, or just good literature in general. This semi-obscure gem needs more attention and I truly feel it is of a higher quality in writing than what is currently fashionable in supernatural literature and fantasy.

(A Classic That Never Grows Old)
『My wife and I had enjoyed this movie for many years but had somehow never gotten our own copy. She prevailed on me to correct that deficiency so I ordered the DVD from Amazon.

The day it came in we watched it for the umpteenth time and fell in love with it all over again. Despite the number of times we have seen it we are always charmed by the story and the acting; it is such a joy to watch.

The DVD is good quality and the sound is entirely satisfying; I can recommend this disc heartily for all of you who appreciate a grand old love story.』

『A romance between a young widow and a sea captain's ghost weaves a magical tale of immortal love. Determined to live her life the way she wants, newly widowed Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney) declines her straitlaced in-laws demand that she live with them and moves with her daughter (a young Natalie Wood) to the seaside into a cottage haunted by the handsome, blustering Captain Gregg (Rex Harrison). A deal is struck between the two in the wee hours of the morning allowing Lucy to stay in the house and the captain to materalize only in the master bedroom. As they gradually get to know each other better, Lucy's spunk and stubborness gains first the captain's grudging respect, then his heart. But when another man woos Lucy, both must face that her future lies with the living, not in the spirit world.』
『Joseph Mankiewicz's moody classic is less ghost story than romantic fantasy, a handsome 1947 drama of impossible love set on the picturesque turn-of-the-century New England coast. Independent young widow Lucy Muir (the luminous Gene Tierney), desperate to escape her uptight in-laws, falls in love with a grand seaside house and moves in, only to discover the cantankerous ghost of the hot-tempered Captain Gregg (a histrionically flamboyant performance by Rex Harrison). Lucy refuses to let the bombastic captain frighten her away, earning his respect, his friendship, and later his love. They team up to turn the captain's salty memoirs into a bestseller, but as his affection grows he fades away, leaving Lucy free to undertake a more worldly suitor, notably a charismatic children's author (George Sanders at his smarmy smoothest) with his own guarded secret. Charles Lang's melancholy black-and-white photography and Bernard Herrmann's haunting score set the tone for this sublime adult drama, and Tierney delivers one of her most understated performances as the resolute Mrs. Muir. Mankiewicz turns this ghost story into a refreshingly mature and down-to-earth romance.--Sean Axmaker

(The Washington Senators have got heart... miles and miles and miles of heart (and, okay, a deal with the Devil))
『Throw in some baseball and several catchy songs, and dust off that old Faust legend, and you get this breezy 1958 musical from Warner Brothers. Originally a hugely successful Broadway play, DAMN YANKEES returns most of the original stage cast, with Tab Hunter taking over in the lead role. And, having seen the uber-bland, very clean cut Tab Hunter in other films, I probably should've scoffed at his being cast in a showy song&dance flick except that, surprisingly, the man actually unveils a more relaxed, fun-loving side to him. So it all works.

Joe Boyd (Robert Shafer) is a middle-aged, die-hard fan of the Washington Senators, and because the Senators are pretty awful, Joe is also a long-suffering fan. After grousing over another of his team's inept showings on television (with the Senators again getting pummeled by the Yankees), Joe exclaims "One long ball hitter, that's what we need! I'd sell my soul for one long-ball hitter." Moments later, the mysterious dapperly-dressed Mr. Applegate appears on his porch and an infernal bargain is struck: a long ball hitter for a soul. But with an escape clause which allows Joe Boyd to change his mind before a set deadline.

Soon the woeful Senators have a new player on the roster, a 22-year-old powerhouse slugger named Joe Hardy (Hunter), or as one female reporter dubs him: "Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo." Joe Hardy promptly leads his team from the cellar to contention and, ultimately, to a pennant race with the New York Yankees. You'd think Joe Hardy and Mr. Applegate would be ecstatic. But, no.

It's that thing about absence and how it makes the heart grow fonder. Joe Hardy is having second thoughts. He misses the wife he'd abandoned, misses his old life as Joe Boyd. He's wandered back into his old neighborhood and managed to rent a room in his old house, all just so he'd be closer to a wife who's now decades older than him. And, of course, all this is stressing out Applegate. Fearing that he might lose out on this soul, he sics the demonic temptress Lola on Joe (She's irresistible, you fool!).

For old-school folks like me, DAMN YANKEES is great fun. This movie rides on the playful, gleeful performances of Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon, and on the songs, several of which have managed to stick with me even after all this time. I savor them all, from Shafer and Hunter's poignant "Goodbye, Old Girl" and the exuberant "(You've Gotta Have) Heart" and "Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo" to Verdon's seductive showstopper "Whatever Lola Wants." And then there's the mambo treat "Who's Got the Pain" (Erp!), also performed by Verdon and partnered up by noted choreographer Bob Fosse (and also Verdon's hubbie).

So, yeah, this movie is tailored more towards comedy and musical numbers, so the baseball sequences aren't exactly what you'd call gritty or suspenseful. However, I dig the mythic, folklorish quality which Joe Hardy achieves, and I'm even reminded a bit of THE NATURAL's Roy Hobbs. Tab Hunter unexpectedly shows a lighthearted personality, and that doesn't hurt. But Ray Walston is exceptional as the beleaguered Devil, and Gwen Verdon really sells her sexy demoness part. Watching these two actors, I can see how the Broadway show ran for an astonishing 1019 performances.

And, for whatever it's worth, the DVD also includes the theatrical trailer which, by the way, trumpets the title of this movie as "What Lola Wants" with "Damn Yankees" in tiny parenthesis right below it.』

(Best 10 bucks I have ever spent !)
『For a little over $ 10 , I got a piece of my childhood back...I have only seen this movie once in my life, and being a child I didn't see just how wonderful it is....and ALL the talent that was there!!!』

(Damn Yankees)
『This is a classic. My husband really enjoys this movie from his youth. Good storyline and a musical taboot. Very enjoyable Tab Hunter and Ray Walston oldie.』

(The Great Gwen Verdon)
『Along with Ethel Merman and Mary Martin, Gwen Verdon was one of the great stars of the American Musical Theatre, and like those other legendary ladies, she seldom got the chance to strut her stuff when her Broadway hits were turned into movies.

The one exception was her breakout role in the fabulous musical-comedy DAMN YANKEES!

Along with fellow Tony winner Ray Walston and the rest of the original Broadway cast (with one key exception), Gwen went to Hollywood to recreate her role as the vampy Lola for the 1958 movie, directed by George Abbott and Stanley Donen and choreographed by Bob Fosse.

DAMN YANKEES! is the Faust legend transferred to a baseball setting. An aging Washington Senators fan sells his soul to the Devil (Walston) in order to play for his team. Turned into a 22-year-old (a poorly cast Tab Hunter), the "old guy" becomes the star player and, but then the Devil enlists the services of Lola to keep him in line.

Verdon is nothing short of terrific. She steals the film.

"Heart," "Who's Got the Pain?" and "Whatever Lola Wants" are among the show's memorable songs.

(One of the greatest musicals ever made ! ! ! ! !)
『I was so ecstatic to see this movie! I'm 50 years old and hadn't seen this classic since I was a kid (years after on t.v.) I truly recommend this movie young and old alike, a timeless love story.』
『Starring the original Broadway cast this is the musical adaptation of the novel "The Year The Yankees Won The Pennant" with a score by Adler&Ross ("The Pajama Game") and choreography by Bob Fosse. Washington Senators fan Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil Mr. Applegate to become the greatest baseball player ever and to help his favorite team win the pennant. However doing this means Joe must leave his beloved wife Meg and it's not easy on him. Whenever he poses as a boarder to get closer to her Applegate must enlist the help of his favorite seductive helper Lola. But not even Lola's charms can woo Joe. Soon she finds herself falling for him but pledges to be his friend. Joe and Applegate make a contract allowing him out of the deal at a certain time but the devil makes sure that Joe doesn't get out. When Lola finds out about this she slips him four sleeping pills so he can sleep through the game the next day allowing Joe to help the Senators win the pennant. However Satan awakes and after turning Lola into an old hag turns Joe back into an old man on the field who returns to his wife.Running Time: 110 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY UPC: 085393197025』
『America's pastime gets a Faustian twist in this 1958 studio musical, which recounts the ballpark bargain struck by an aging Washington Senators fan obsessed with helping his team trump the Yanks. With echoes of the real-life 1919 Shoeless Joe Jackson scandal, and tart observations on the tradeoffs between youth and experience,Damn Yankeesfuses a classic dramatic dilemma with musical comedy to often charming effect.

In transferring George Abbott's Broadway hit to the screen, codirectors Abbott and Stanley Donen are smart enough to retain Richard Adler and Jerry Ross's clever songs, Bob Fosse's sizzling choreography (with Fosse himself on camera for the sultry mambo number), and stars Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon, reprising their devilish turns as the Horned One himself, Mr. Applegate, and his temptress, Lola. Where the team strikes out, unfortunately, is in their concession to marquee politics, handing the pivotal role of Joe Hardy to handsome, vapid, celluloid heartthrob Tab Hunter, whose thin voice and unsteady screen presence argue that he should have stayed in the dugout.

Walston is reliably spry and acerbic as the canny archangel, and Verdon, in one of her rare starring screen turns, confirms the comedic timing and sexy, muscular grace that made her a deserved draw in subsequent stage hits including another Fosse triumph,Sweet Charity. With her combination of feline grace and alternately steely, flirtatious femininity, Verdon makes you believe her when she sings, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets."--Sam Sutherland

(NEW PACKAGING)
『Just bought seasons 3&4 to ad to our collection and I was at first excited to see a reduced price...
The packaging is different, rather than the previous slim sets (as advertised) the packaging is now a thin 6 disc set (which I only found listed on the web page in one place after I went back to look). Same great show, just very disappointed in Amazon and their deceptive web page.』

(did not receive order)
『I waited until the order time had expired and still did not have my order. I contacted Amazon, who in turn contacted the people I had ordered from. They apologized and asked me how I would like them to handle the situation. I asked them to refund my card, which they promptly did. I was disappointed to not get what I ordered, but I was very impressed with the prompt and courteous way this was handled.

(Modern American Myth)
『As one of the fan group for those who "boldly go where no one has gone before", I'd like to advance a plug for a series which does a fine job of going where the paranormal has ever intersected our domain, and brings it into the house just across the street, or around the corner.
X-files producers consistently preserve their protagonists and often re-package and re-introduce their best antagonists, which goes a long way towards inducing a sense of viewer familiarity. The mythological and the arcane are welcome guests in the modern world of paranormal investigators Spec. Agent Fox Mulder, and Spec. Agent Dana Scully.

X-files do not presume to always conclude with a Disney Fairy Tale type happy ending. You won't know at the beginning of the episode that you can always expect to be subjected to an autopsy, although forensic science is frequently employed. And you can't rush to conclude that the episode will always result from or result in a tragedy. Paranormal investigation, while often probing the unfortunate, doesn't necessarily preclude the humorous. (Quite the contrary!) But the unknown is ever present, from the opening credits philosophy, (The Truth is Out There) to the Ubiquitous presence of Fox Mulder's prominent UFO poster, "I Want To Believe."

Simply for the sake of avoiding redundancy, I'd prefer to post a few comments here about the overall series in connection to the pilot episode, which purports to examine an account resembling events which actually did occur. };-) Simply stated, the occurrence of alien-abduction is reported as an international phenomenon. What's rather more disturbing is the discovery on video of facsimile devices, not far removed from the kind of surveillance employed by our government against citizens in general. They often bring up devices which are proto-type-related to technology that is built into NASA exploratory vessels. And since the NASA program receives corporate investment for research products, on top of USGovt. tax subsidy, American investors have an interest only second to the military. You can read about advances for any orbital interplanetary device, assured that it's undergone advanced testing for military usage before it was ever approved for a space rover project.

There are two episodes of Season Seven, which I would characterize as the most heart-wrenching in the series.
"Sein Und Zeit" on disc 3, and "Closure", also on disc 3 in sequential order. The FBI searches for a missing child and uncovers many awful secrets. The theme revolves around finally answering the disappearance of Mulder's sister Samantha, which has been driving him on, since her abduction at age 8. The Old Souls, and the Songs, and the Star-light, all are reminiscent of Alfheim or the American Indian view of a bridge over the line where sky meets the earth. You can catch a glimpse of the feelings involved by viewing that Georgia O'Keefe painting of a loose suspended ladder, seemingly floating above the desert landscape amidst an aqua cloudless sky. The answers were meant to be, to remain elusive, because they insulate us against a truth incomprehensibly awful.

In contrast, the theme that "We Are Not Alone" is, I think, most favorably illustrated by three episodes, the first of which concludes season 2, called: "Anasazi" on disc 6, and followed consecutively by two more episodes which open season 3, "The Blessing Way" and "Paper Clip" both on disc one. I am admittedly biased towards the Navajo reservation people who assist the agents in their quest. But the events which are precipitated by an earthquake are described in memorable (for me) terms by the Navajo Elder, as he warns his grandson to leave the snakes alone, "they will be angry, and frightened." But, of course, Mulder can't leave the 'snakes' alone. I only mention said episodes by name, because Amazon features each episode as available Video on Demand. That's all new to me. I didn't see all the episodes originally because I was either working, or the FOX channel they were broadcasting on wasn't available in our area.

If you're familiar with the Catholic tradition of 'stigmatia', you might find an episode of Season Three, disc 3 titled: "Revelations" of interest. I am intrigued by the seemingly open-ended treatment of this episode. I don't recall seeing it revisited at all, though it is suggested that there is more to come.』

(In the beginning...)
『God created The X-Files and He saw that it was good...

Season 1 of The X-Files, what can I say that hasn't already been said. This was the birth of one of the most iconic shows EVER, not just in the SciFi realm. Without The X-Files there would be no LOST or Fringe or half of the shows that have come out since '93. The X-Files gave SciFi respectability beyond anything else. Before Mulder and Scully Scifi brought up mental images of overgrown nerds in their mother's basements watching Star Wars while playing D&D (all due respect to my brothers out there that do that!).

Even after over a decade the first season is amazingly watchable and still as good, if not better, than when it first aired. The plots are original and thought provoking. The meta story is engaging. All in all this should not be passed up by anyone, nerd or not. That's one thing about The X-Files, even if you don't SciFi there's atleast 2-3 episodes you will like.

The Truth Is Out There』

(The Inaugaral Season of A Great Paranormal Series)
『The X-Files are cases that the FBI have labeled as unexplained. Fox Mulder is an FBI profiler with a special interest in these types of cases since his sister was seemingly abducted by aliens as a child. When Mulder uses his clout to be assigned to investigate these cases he begins to become to close to uncovering a government conspiracy. So enter Special Agent Dana Scully a medical doctor and forensic pathologist assigned by the bureau to be Mulder's partner in hopes that this skeptical scientist will debunk Mulder's work and justify the closure of The X-Files. And so it begins. Running for 9 seasons on the Fox Network, The X-Files was an international hit and award winning series.

In this first season the vast government conspiracy that in later seasons would become so (almost TOO) complex is first explored as Mulder searchs for the answers to his sister's disappearance.. In addition the agents investigate cases involving not only aliens and UFO's but also werewolves, ghosts, bigfoot, murderous artificial intelligences, psychic's, reincarnated killers, evil clones, etc.

While not the best season of the series it is an important and entertaining season. So if you like shows about FBI investigators and also have an interest in the paranormal you should defintely give the show a try.

The slimsets have few if any special features but all episodes are included at a much cheaper price. $20 on Amazon and with Walmart selling a double pack of Seasons 1 and 2 for $20, you get 2 seasons of a great television show for nearly the price of one single movie dvd.』

『Get reacquainted with Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), Fox Mulder (David Duchovny), and all the clever plots dealing with the occult, monsters, urban legends, conspiracy theories, and the rest that made this show an uncanny hit.』
『In the first season ofThe X-Files, creator Chris Carter was uncertain of the series' future, so each of the episodes is a self-contained suspense story; they do not delve deep into the ongoing X-Files mythology or turn to self-parody and humor as do episodes in later seasons. Yet, these episodes display the elements for which the show would become famous: the cinematic production values and top-notch special effects, the stark lighting of the Vancouver sets, the atmospheric halo of Mark Snow's score, and the clever plots dealing with subjects ranging from the occult, religion, and monsters to urban legends, conspiracy theories, and science fiction. Most importantly, season 1 introduces FBI agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox "Spooky" Mulder (David Duchovny), two of the most attractive government officials around. Scully is the serious-minded medical scientist assigned to join Mulder on the X-Files, a division of the FBI dealing with the paranormal. Mulderis the intuitive thinker with a dry wit, a passionate believer in the existence of paranormal phenomena and one of the few characters on television smart enough to figure out who the bad guy is before the audience does. Their muddled relationship, a deep friendship laced with sexual tension, provides the human heart in a world where the bizarre and horrible lurk in everyday society.

Those unfamiliar withThe X-Filesoften view all the fuss with the same skepticism with which Scully first regards her new partner's ideas. But just as she comes to realize the uncanny accuracy of Mulder's outlandish theories, newcomers toThe X-Fileswho sample a few episodes in this boxed set will likely find themselves riveted to their television late into the night. And undoubtedly, the shadows and creaking noises in the house that evening will seem more menacing than usual.--Eugene Wei

(Cult Classic)
『With its science fiction premise, soap-operatic storytelling, ironic humor, and sexy ethos, it's no wonder this show retains a huge cult following. Nearly ten years after its ruthless cancelation, it retains the power to intrigue, titillate, amuse, and impress. Where many shows from the late Nineties look painfully dated, this one remains watchable and fun over ten years later.

Jarod is a postmodern superhero, a man who pretends to be something he's not so that he can do work others should have done. But he's also a fugitive. A shadowy conspiracy, The Centre, thinks it owns him, and Miss Parker, Sydney, and Broots are always hot on Jarod's heels. He has to solve other people's problems while keeping one step ahead of his powerful pursuers.

The story steals a pinch of the classic series "The Fugitive" but builds upon it, transforming itself into an entirely new beast. Super-genius Jarod is a good hook for the audience: we relate to his wide-eyed wonder, his ability to identify paradoxes of modern life. But he's one step ahead of us, challenging us to keep up. And we want to, because he's such a compelling character.

At times, early episodes are a bit wobbly, and could do with a little continuity work. Jarod lives in better digs and has more freedom to roam the Centre than in later episodes. I also wish there was more research, because some situations are implausible: are that many firefighters loafing on watch? Did that Coast Guardsman sport a beard? These things take me out of the moment.

But if you can see your way past these hiccups, this is the kind of series that has been pushed off network TV by hip cynicism. It believes in justice, human goodness, and resilience. It's edgy but family-friendly. And it's punchy enough to be watched repeatedly. I wish more of this sort of show were still being produced these days.』

(The Pretender First Season - a hit!)

The recipient of this First Season was pretty happy with it, so I was happy as well! Excellent turn-around time from order to receipt - thanks, Amazon!』

(great service)
『I received the product more quickly than expected. It was in excellent condition. I would definitely purchase from them again.』

(Waited 12 years for this)
『I never missed this series when it was on tv and I was so EXCITED to find it available on DVD on Amazon. I actually purchased the first set of the 4 season series for my daughter's birthday. She absolutely loved it. I think what I like most is the Genius mind of Jerrod but the innocence of him also. He is always helping other people while at the same time trying to find out who he really is. You find yourself feeling compasion for him. And Michael T. Weiss is HOT! Especially when Jarod gets angry and even with the person who did someone wrong. There is no Violence or strong language which I really appreciate.』

(Review)
『The product was as described and received in a timely manner. One of the DVDs was slightly scratched and did not work in a couple places.』
『Jarod is a Pretender-a genius whose exceptional intelligence allows him to assume various identities at will, be it doctor, test pilot or lawyer. Taken from his parents at an early age, Jarod was brought up in the Centre, a think-tank facility where he believed his computer-like mind was being used to benefit mankind. But when he learned the simulations he solved were being sold to the highest-bidder no matter what their intent, Jarod escaped. Now on the run, Jarod embarks on a search for his true identity while also attempting to balance out any wrong his simulations have caused by helping people who are as powerless as he once was.』
『Jarod (Michael T. Weiss) is a Pretender. As a five-year-old in 1963, he was taken from his home and "adopted" by The Centre, a mysterious Delaware-based think tank. Why Jarod? His superior intellect--Jarod can "pretend" to be anything he wants: doctor, lawyer, engineer, astronaut and, as he quips in episode five ("The Paper Clock"), "I'm working on Indian chief."

Thirty years later, once he realized his efforts were not being used for good, Jarod escaped from the Centre. Psychiatrist and surrogate father Sydney (Carnivàle's velvet-voiced Patrick Bauchau) and sociopathic sidekick and Emma Peel lookalike Miss Parker (ER's Andrea Parker) have been trying to track him down ever since. They’re assisted by the technically proficient, if socially inept Broots (Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Gries). Each and every time, Jarod eludes their grasp, but not before helping some stranger who's been dealt an injustice (just as he once was). Along the way, he hopes to figure out who he is and where he came from.

Each of these 21 episodes moves deftly from Jarod's lonely past to his more satisfying, if precarious present (the human "science project" was constantly videotaped as a boy, hence the abundance of footage from his childhood). It's a worthy successor to paranoid thrillers likeThe Fugitiveand the unjustly obscureNowhere Man(fromX-Filescreator Chris Carter), and the droll performance of Weiss (Jeffrey) adds a dose of levity to a concept usually painted with a darker palette. The Pretenderran on NBC for four seasons and was followed by two TV movies,The Pretender 2001andIsle of the Haunted.--Kathleen C. (Great Intro For The Series)
『Though not the Star Wars I grew up with its still enjoyable. The action sequences, and there are a lot of them, look great. The character models though, the humans imparticular, I wish had a little more movement to them. They're too stiff and their hair looks like it was modeled out of Play-Doh. The acting also varies in this picture. While Hayden Christensen was bad in his two, the guy providing Anakin's voice in this is pretty good but some deliveries are flat and and unconvincing. James Arnold Taylor provides the voice of Obi-Wan who actually captures the character very well. Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Daniels return to voice their characters though I hope Daniels and Jackson were well paid for about five minutes worth of dialog. I am glad though that Dooku is in it more but all he pretty much does is stand in front of Jabba the Hutt for the whole picture. The new character Ashoka voiced by Ashley Eckstein is annoying! I wish they never gave Skywalker a Padawan; she dress inappropriately for a Jedi apprentice, I hate the way she handles her lightsaber and I hate those stupid nicknames they give each other (though I am grateful that she doesn't call him SkyGuy hardly at all in the series). All in all it delivers but if I were Lucas, I wouldn't have put this in theatres to make a quick buck. It drags too long and would've been suited better for a TV movie than theatrical.』

(I want to say this movie sucks, but ill say this)
『The movie is more/less a half made Star Wars product that is geared towards padawans.

If this movie was made for an older crowd, i think it would of been better.

The movie did have awesome clones VS droid battles..... but the movie could not keep me awake.

(A major disapointlment.)
『Watch the 2005 Cartoon Network Non-CGI animated series of shorts and you'll know what I mean when I say this doesn't measure up. The 2005 shorts deal much more with the other films. After watching those the CGI cartoons just lack so much. The least of which is connection and relivence to the movies. I recomend true Star Wars fans skip this all together.』

(Great movie)
『I think some people were expecting a little too much from this movie. It was not written or directed by George Lucas. It is simply an introduction to the Cartoon Network series which in my opinion is even better than the movie. I really enjoyed the movie and my kids love it! We even bought the soundtrack! I like Anakin before he turned to the dark side so it is fun to watch more of him as a "good guy". We have both the Blu-ray and the standard DVD. I bought this copy simply to get the digital version for our iPod player. It was definitely worth the expense as the Blu-ray picture quality is just amazing to me!』

(Great for kids, okay for everybody else)
『The Clone wars is a good movie to watch with your kids, but otherwise, the story is actually boring. The star wars movies are more exciting and interesting than this cartoon. Visually, the movie looks great but some of the characters are very poorly written. The main female character is a brat and the female villain is inept, so the writers need more character development as well as story development.

What I could not understand, is how the Republic (the good guys) are trying to win the favor of Jabba the Hutt, who was one of the villains in Return of the Jedi. In Jedi, Jabba was bad guy who wanted Han Solo dead or alive, and had no problems throwing the good guys in monster-infested traps but here, he is a giant lump who has resources that both the Jedi and Sith want to win their side of the war. I can understand how the Jedi might want to try to negotiate but the point of being a villain is to do bad things. It would make more sense if Count Dooku was trying to take over Jabba's resources by force and the Jedi tried to prevent that, but alas, in the end, it is only a kids movie.

The Blu-ray looks great on a 1080p tv, the sound is fantastic, the extra features are nice and this is the kind of movie to escape reality for awhile and can bring up interesting discussions (with both star wars and casual fans alike) so it is okay.』
